A Decade of Care: Hanes Launches 10th National Sock Drive to Help the Homeless; Tops 3 Million Donated Pairs
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., November 22, 2019 /3BL Media/ – Small gifts often have the most meaning.
For the millions of people living homeless, a clean pair of socks is often described as “the gift of humanity.” Hanes, America’s No. 1 basic apparel, underwear and sock brand, is partnering with organizations fighting homelessness nationwide to deliver comfort to those who need it most through the Hanes National Sock Drive. The brand is marking 10 years of helping provide care and compassion during this year’s drive by:
Donating more than 250,000 pairs of socks directly to organizations fighting homelessness in all 50 states, along with Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Since the program’s inception in 2009, Hanes has provided more than 3 million pairs of socks – one of the most requested items by relief agencies – to help the homeless.
Giving an additional pair of socks for every order of any apparel placed in December on Hanes.com. Socks will be provided to local homeless shelters.
Partnering with Rainier Fruit Company for its second “Pears for Pairs” campaign, which is currently running in United Supermarkets, Harris Teeter, Wegmans, and Lunds & Byerlys stores. From late September through January, Rainier is donating a portion of the proceeds from bulk and bagged pear sales to the Hanes National Sock Drive. In 2018, the Pears for Pairs campaign resulted in 20,000 pairs of socks being donated to five nonprofits.
Offering consumers the opportunity to participate directly in the program by visiting www.hanes.com/donate to gift socks ($1), women’s underwear ($1), men’s underwear ($1.50) and bras ($6) that will be distributed in needed styles and sizes.
Continuing its 10-year collaboration with Invisible People and its founder, Mark Horvath, to help raise awareness about homelessness. Invisible People uses innovative storytelling, educational resources and advocacy to help change how the public views homelessness and those living homeless in the United States and abroad.
“Most of us take basic apparel for granted, but we know a new, clean pair of socks can mean a lot to those experiencing homelessness,” said Sidney Falken, chief branding officer, HanesBrands. “We are committed to bringing a little comfort to those who need it most – and it is incredibly gratifying to have others, including many individuals across the country, join us in this effort.”
More than 100 agencies, including The Salvation Army Bell Shelter (Bell, California), Homeward Bound (Asheville, North Carolina) and Compassion Outreach Ministries (Columbus, Ohio), have received sock donations from Hanes.
“Small things really do make a big difference to our clients,” said Steve Lytle, director of The Salvation Army Bell Shelter. “The smile on a client’s face when she received a clean pair of socks for the first time in months was priceless. There was joy in her eyes and it was clear that the socks were the most precious gift she could have received in that moment. Another client said his gift of clean socks was a sign that there are people who care and that his life did matter.”
Homeward Bound distributes more than 2,000 pairs of socks a month to those living homeless.
“Homelessness is a community problem and it will take everyone’s support to help end the epidemic,” said Ashley Campbell, the agency’s outreach specialist. “Right now, some of your neighbors are living outside, in tents and under bridges, vulnerable to inclement weather and violence, stripped of dignity and our collective respect.
“There are so many ways to help,” Campbell continued. “Educate yourself about homelessness in your community, volunteer at your local agency fighting this issue or simply make a donation that would help a nonprofit save its limited resources.”
Jeffrey Tabor, director of TWO Men’s Ministry House for Compassion Outreach Ministries of Ohio, added that there is no donation too small to be used for good to fulfill a basic human need.
“Imagine the importance of just one pair of socks when you are focused on keeping your feet dry and warm during the cold winter months,” Tabor said. “That’s why we are so thankful for our partnership with Hanes, which has fulfilled an immediate, basic human need for so many people.”
Lytle underscores, however, that sometimes it all boils down to human contact. “Acknowledge people who are experiencing homelessness with a smile or hello,” he said. “By engaging with a person who is experiencing homelessness we are saying ‘I see you and you matter.’”
The Hanes National Sock Drive is part of Hanes for Good, the corporate responsibility program of Hanes’ parent company, HanesBrands (NYSE:HBI).

The Art of Countersteer: The Bow Tie vs. Blue Oval battle reaches full lock.
The sights, sounds, and smells of drifting are unique in the world of motorsports. The brash cars, billowing tire smoke, and shrieking engines lend themselves perfectly to the multimedia of today’s young enthusiasts who have grown up on video games and social media. Add to that a relatively low cost of entry, and it’s no wonder that drifting has blown up across America. Many local tracks now offer a night for drifting for as low as $25, and several sanctioning groups like Lone Star Drift FD Pro Am Series and The Drift League have sprouted up for hopefuls looking for a chance to break into the pro series, Formula DRIFT. Though the sport may be foreign to most HOT ROD readers, drifting is as much about ingenuity and engineering, high horsepower, and driving skill as the types of motorsport we typically cover, and looking through the specs of these purpose-built domestic cars may convince some of our audience to check it out.
The Origins of Drifting
More than just a pastime in vacant, snow-covered parking lots, drifting was born in Japan in the 1980s. It was first seen in the All Japan Touring Car Championship series when driver Kunimitsu Takahashi began to slide his car through the corners as a way to maintain momentum on the era’s low-grip tires. This controlled state of oversteer was later elevated to an art form by Keiichi Tsuchiya, highly accomplished race-car driver and co-host of the Japanese automotive show Best Motoring. Considered by many to be a master of racing in the rain, Tsuchiya has come to be known as the “Drift King” and was instrumental in the formalization of organized drifting as a professional motorsport. Tsuchiya and the staff of Japanese automotive magazine Option organized the first drifting event in Japan in 1988, the D1 Grand Prix, held at the Tsukuba Circuit. Formula DRIFT, its American counterpart, was formed in 2003, holding an exhibition event at Irwindale Raceway and its first stand-alone event at Road Atlanta in 2004. The series has since expanded to hold events at nine venues across the country for the 2019 season and fields teams with big-name sponsors like Red Bull, Rockstar, Falken Tire as well as factory sponsorship from Dodge, Pontiac, and Ford throughout the years.
Unlike traditional forms of racing, the winner of a drifting event is not determined by who is the fastest or who crosses the line first. Instead, a panel of judges scores each driver on several criteria focusing on precision car control and style. The judges reward drivers who can maintain a maximum amount of drift angle while maneuvering their cars through a series of turns, bringing the car to the apex of each corner, then carrying the slide to the outside of the turns (similar to the racing line). These maneuvers must be performed in a fluid and continuous motion, with minimal steering correction, braking, or pedaling of the throttle. Competitors run the course in tandem, in which case the following car must maintain the optimum line through the course as well as keeping his or her car as close as possible to the lead car. Imagine doing synchronized donuts in a snowy parking lot that, in most cases, would result in a humiliating video on FailBlog. In pro drifting, it’s a required skill.
During the 2018 Formula DRIFT (FD) season, we followed drivers Matt Field and Justin Pawlak, both of whom drive for the Falken Tire team. They pilot two of the most iconic American muscle cars—a Chevrolet Corvette and a Ford Mustang, respectively—and carry the torch for the age-old Ford versus Chevy feud into the world of professional drifting. Justin and Matt each run their own shops while designing, developing, building, and driving their own race cars. They are true hot rodders, who are passionate about every element of building wicked-fast vehicles and making them survive the grueling series.
Justin Pawlak: 2017 Mustang
Justin got his start in drifting while working at AEM Electronics in Hawthorne, California, getting involved with the sport at the grassroots level. In 2009, he opened his shop, Hot Line Performance, where he and his crew would do fabrication work, race-car builds, and engine swaps. His drifting skills were honed behind the wheel of a second-gen Mazda RX-7, in which he received his D1 Grand Prix and FD licenses. He graduated to a S197 Mustang once Falken Tire picked him up, and he’s been wheeling Mustangs ever since. Now his 2017 S550 chassis packs one of the hardest punches the Blue Oval can throw. Like all FD competitors, this race car began as a regular production vehicle, but to be competitive at the pro level, he needed to strip the car to a bare chassis and build it from the ground up.
Drivetrain
Unlike most cars in the series, Justin’s Mustang sports a list of parts available directly from Ford Performance and Roush Performance Products. The high-compression Aluminator 5.0L crate engine that is controlled by the Ford Performance Control Pack ECU and topped off with a 2.3L Roush Supercharger that breathes through the factory airbox makes 1,000 hp with stock internals and exhales through a set of Kooks 1-7/8-inch headers. The Coyote routinely sees 7,500 rpm and, despite the abuse, shows hardly any signs of wear and tear, as demonstrated in a teardown performed by Ford Engineers in 2017. That engine is nearly identical to the current setup in Justin’s car.
A complete Radium Engineering fuel system feeds the thirsty Coyote Ignite ethanol through a set of 1,700cc injectors from Injector Dynamics. The supercharger has been on the car for more than three years with no issues and is driven off of an ATI 15-percent overdrive super damper with a VMP Performance eight-rib belt kit. C&R Racing built a custom, rear-mounted supercharger heat exchanger and radiator. Mounting the radiator in the trunk area (just aft of the rear window) is common practice in FD. It helps with weight distribution and eliminates potential hazards to the cooling system in the event of a crash or rubbing with another car on track.
The robust driveline incorporates a Quick Time bellhousing, an Andrews Products A431 four-speed Transmission (commonly found in NASCAR Cup Cars) with an Exedy twin-disc clutch, and a one-piece prop shaft from Driveshaft Shop. The driveshaft and axles survived an entire season’s worth of abuse without fail. The ring and pinion are from Rave Gears, an aerospace gear company that supply companies like Andrews Products.
Chassis and Suspension
Competition-level drift cars must be stable when sideways. Bracing and gusset work are a must, but Justin took it a step further by stitch-welding the chassis end to end. He also fabricated the rollcage and crushable bash bars. Drivers go to this effort to eliminate any undesirable movement in the car that not only increases stability but makes for more precise suspension tuning. Despite that, it’s necessary to note the cars must retain their factory pick-up points (control arms, strut towers, and so on). Essentially, every element of the car’s structure between the front and rear strut towers must remain factory. Within those parameter’s, the sky is the limit for tuning and steering angle.
Justin and Tim Folkerts of iWon Suspension R&D’d the rear suspension and front “angle kit,” which allows the car to have about 75 degrees of steering angle. To eliminate bind when steering at such extreme angles, the factory dual front links and pivot points on the hub were eliminated in favor of a single control arm and pivot. Justin had to design not only the control arm but the spindle as well. The factory item was milled down to accept adjustable, fabricated pick-up points for the control arm and FK spherical tie-rod ends, all while retaining the factory hub to accept a Wilwood six-piston brake kit. Damping is controlled by KW Suspension coilovers in all four corners.
Interior
The car’s interior sports a factory dash with Roush gauge pods in place of the factory air vents. Those pods and top half of the center console are home to an array of AEM X-Series gauges with an AQ-1 data logger tucked away. Gears are selected via a JSP shifter and knob while a JTP handbrake lever attached to a Wilwood master cylinder can lock up the rear wheels on command to help initiate an oversteer condition. Sparco seats and six-point harnesses keep the occupants secure during 80-plus-mph initiations, and a Sparco quick-release steering wheel ensures Justin will keep the car traveling where he wants.
Exterior
Though the car is a 2017 model, the nose is that of a 2018 Roush Mustang with all of the aero goodies: splitter, aero pockets, and the upper and lower grille. That bodywork is affixed to the car via the factory, removable core support, an item that can also be purchased from your local dealer. This is uncommon in FD, as cars typically have a custom-fabricated front end that involves bash bars, but in this case, the factory core support is used as the front bash bar.
The rest of the body, except for the roof, is all carbon fiber, courtesy of Anderson Composites, which puts the car right at the 3,000-pound mark (800 pounds lighter than stock). The rear trunk spoiler also came from Roush, and the roof spoiler is from Classic Design Concepts. All of the glass in the car was replaced with polycarbonate panels that Justin cut to fit. To complete the look, white Forgestar F14s are wrapped in Falken Azenis 615k+ tires, a DOT, off-the-shelf tire.
Matt Field: 2013 Corvette
Known as the “Beast from the Bay,” Matt Field has been hucking cars sideways for the better part of a decade. Having received his FD Pro license in 2009, his first career podium finish was in 2013 behind the wheel of an S14 Nissan 240SX. That same year, he opened The Drift Cave in San Jose, California, a shop that specializes in building top-quality race cars. Before the 2018 FD season kicked off, he decided to leave the 240SX chassis and build a whole new car. The vehicle choice was a 2013 Corvette because it is far more capable than the S-chassis, thereby making it easier to develop; used Vettes are cheap right now, too, and as Matt sees it, they’re also the next popular all-American drifting platform. It’s the first time in several years a Corvette has been this heavily campaigned, and last season, Matt proved its worth by taking a salvage-title car to a Seventh Place overall finish.
Drivetrain
Though the Vette already comes LS-equipped, more power was needed. The RHS 427 LSX engine under the hood of Matt’s Vette and packs a bit more of a punch than stock. CBM Motorsports out of Colton, California, assembled the engine to be ready for supercharging and nitrous. With a Vortech YSi-B blower attached via A&A supercharger brackets, and direct-port nitrous kit from Nitrous Express getting sucked through a FAST 102 intake, this C6 is good for 1,060 hp and 990 lb-ft of torque to the tires. All of that power vaporizes ear drums through Borla headers and ATAK exhaust system.
Accel spark-plug wires and Holley EFI smart coils keep the engine firing true with a Mechman alternator keeping all of the electronics fully juiced. To ensure longevity, a CX racing oil cooler and ARE dry-sump system ensure it will hold up to every bang off the rev limiter. The supercharger is cooled by a Treadstone Performance intercooler while the engine’s coolant travels through a C&R Racing dual-pass radiator that lays flat in the trunk of the car. A pair of 1,950-cfm Spal brushless fans make for some icy coolant temperatures.
Earl’s Ultra Pro plumbing runs throughout the entire car and two Aeromotive 340 fuel pumps and a pressure regulator keep the Injector Dynamics 2000cc injectors well fed. The plastic outer shell of the stock fuel tank was retained and a Fuel Safe bladder was made to fit within it. A Fuel Safe dry brake is installed in the factory fuel-filler location.
Chassis and Suspension
Parts Shop Max handled the entire suspension of the car. Together with Matt, the shop developed the control arms, knuckles, sway bars, and adjustable coilovers for the C6 Corvette.
The C6 chassis is already very well-engineered, but for drifting, the cars need a little room to crumple without causing damage to the vital structure. After mocking up the rear body panels, Matt cut a substantial amount of the stock frame from the car and replaced it with bash bars that are engineered to fail in the case of the occasional wall tap or car-to-car contact.
Interior
Matt’s “office” is home to not only his Cobra Ultralite seats and Schroth Racing Enduro harnesses but the brains of the whole mechanical operation. Tucked within an HGK carbon dash is an MXS digital dash and data logger from AIM Data Sports that gathers the info that Matt and his team need. A Holley Dominator ECU serves as the brain and accepts Matt’s commands via a Motec PDM. Jei of Blacktrax Performance buttoned up all of the wiring from tip to tail of the C6.
At the controls and behind the Optic Armor lexan windows, a bespoke NRG Innovations steering wheel sits atop a Woodward steering column and the Parts Shop Max handbrake is within a finger’s reach of the wheel. A Tilton pedal box and reservoirs are tucked in the footwell, and to stay cool under pressure Matt wears a Coolshirt during competition.
Exterior
HGK came through with a full carbon/Kevlar body for the car, including a fan shroud. The carbon-fiber hood and trunk are from Anderson Composites, and APR added some style and aerodynamics with a front splitter and side skirts. This all contributes to a 3,000-pound vehicle weight with Matt sitting in it, a weight that must be adhered to, given his 295 tire size. Falken Tire’s iconic teal and blue livery shines bright as a throwback to the early days of drifting in the states. A set of 18-inch Rotiform WGR wheels are wrapped in the same DOT Falken 615k+ rubber as Justin’s Mustang and have accents color-matched to the car’s theme.
What’s Next?
Going into the 2019 season, Matt and Justin are on the hunt for more. After finishing 2018 in Seventh and Fifth Place, respectively, they have podium finishes on the brain. There is plenty of stiff competition, but in a judged motorsport that demands as much as drifting does of man and machine, anything can happen. Having been in the game this long, things are looking up for these guys, and we could be looking at the next FD champions in the very near future.
Drivers like this duo are already veterans of the sport and will someday, along with the rest of their comrades, be the “old guys” to which future drivers look up to for guidance and inspiration as they claw their way through melted rubber, blown engines, and crunched cars to take the ultimate victory.

WOCHE 16 DFS CASH LINEUPS: Yahoo | FanDuel | DraftKings
Robert Foster, WR, Rechnungen.
WOCHE 16 DFS GPP LINEUPS: Yahoo | FanDuel | DraftKings
Evan Engram, TE, Riesen.
Dalvin Cook, FLEX, Wikinger.

GRIDLIFE Midwest Coverage 2017 Part 1
GRIDLIFE Midwest was so crazy this summer it is hard to put into words. There are many superlatives that get used everyday that they’ve become overused. The best way to put it is GRIDLIFE Midwest is a perfect storm of racing, cars, music, kicking it, camping, and partying. If you’re a gear head and haven’t experienced a GRIDLIFE event you are doing yourself a huge diservice. You’re in luck they’re doing an event at Road Atlanta this August but if that is too far there is always next year.
I think one of the things I love about the event is the people that come for the time attack and driving. The drivers are some really awesome people who are the base/foundation for the event. There is definitely competition but it is in a friendly spirit. There is not much drama that I have heard about or seen- unlike car show cliques and crews. (Chances are I’m not talking about you. [But if I am don’t take stickers and Instagram so fucking seriously])
This Airlift Equipped STi was tearing up the track showing people that air suspenstion can get down with the bad asses.
Super clean R34 spotted in the pits between runs.
Simba spotted in the pits
Alot of battle damage.
Some pretty impressive race cars have been showing up. This Porsche was one of a few there.
William Au-Yeung of Vibrant Performance / PZtuning was there going fast as hell around gingerman. He is also going to Australia to compete in World Time Attack.
This gnarly LS Swapped 350z is driven by Savannah Little.
This gnarly LS Swapped 350z is driven by Savannah Little.
Falken Tires. Bless you.
Quite the setup. Porsche on Volk Racing wheels. *eggplant emoji*
I feel like there are more domestics showing up lately which is cool with me. It is good to see lap battle grow.
You don’t lose points for cleanliness when you’re racing.
A big misconception about driving is that you need a lot of horse power on the race track. Whether you’re learning or more advanced driving with evenly matched cars can be a ton of fun. Some of the Rambler’s fam at gridlife started driving fits on the track because they are ubiquitous and cheap. Spec fit was born.
What it is all about “Have fun!” This is Mikey’s fit they had some one graffiti for GRIDLIFE.
BOSS Kit on a 240. This car is cool as fuck. Whine about the motor swap, nerds. I don’t care. We get it you like inline fours and inline sixes. Fine. go build your own 240sx with an over priced JDM swap.
Chirp’n 3rd
Hot blonde and bike. Aw yeah.
Some nice Subarus.
This camping setup is cool. I’ve never seen it in the wild.
Packing ’em in.
Rumor has it Vaughn Gittin Jr. high-fived a bald eagle while doing a burn out and shotgunning a Monster energy drink. That is completely false but it is an alternate universe I would like to believe exists.
RTR
Drifting brings all the boys and girls to the yard. Like milkshakes.
This is it for part 1 of the GRIDLIFE Midwest coverage. If you can make it out to the GRIDLIFE South event I highly recommend it. It will be a rager. Here is the event page and here is the official website.

When it comes to tracks on the Formula Drift schedule, there are none better than Road Atlanta. Automotive action happens the entire time youÆre there from nearly sun up to sun down, and well into the night. ItÆs why fans always look forward to it and it makes for an amazing, party-like atmosphere. It also helps that, despite not being an oval track, fans can see nearly everything thanks to the bowl structure of the turn 10/keyhole complex. This is Road Atlanta and here is what you missed by not being there.
#gallery-0-21 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-21 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-21 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Drifting is a sport of the senses û the sight of cars getting sideways, the smell of burnt rubber, the sound of cars pushing maximum horsepower, and sometimes even the taste of spent race gas. ItÆs quick, itÆs dirty, and it just pulls you in even if you try to resist. ItÆs why it works so well in a confined environment like most of the oval tracks Formula Drift visits. ItÆs the same reasons people love monster trucks and thatÆs not a knock on the series. The fans are there for the entertainment of automotive action.
#gallery-0-22 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-22 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-22 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-22 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
However, why does Road Atlanta bring out the best in not only these drivers, but the fans as well? First, there is the speed. The fans love to see cars barrel down the back straight and get sideways early, and backwards. Drivers love it because it allows them to push their cars with minimal worry of hitting a wall, so they drive faster and go harder here. Second, the part of course that is used couldnÆt be better for fans and drivers alike.
#gallery-0-23 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-23 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-23 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Turn 10a, 10b, and the keyhole are all within the sight of every fan sitting in there despite the sea of people. The elevation changes nearly takes out the horsepower factor after 10a, so there are tons of opportunity for drivers to pull up on each other and stay door-to-door. Finally û though there are many other reasons beyond this û food, drink, and entertainment are well within reach as spectator parking is right behind the entire area meaning walking back to grab a cold drink isnÆt difficult to do.
#gallery-0-24 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-24 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-24 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-24 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The first part of the drifting weekend started off with Pro2. A surprise number one went to Danny George and his Shango BMW. After a dismal weekend at Orlando, this number one seed was a welcome sight for the Las Vegas native. However, he would be knocked out in the Top 16 by Alec Robbins in the KoruWorks Nissan 350Z. After turning his car into a rocket ship, Brody Goble and Austin Meeks would meet again in the Great Eight.
#gallery-0-25 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-25 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-25 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-25 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
What could have been an awesome battle turned out to not come true as Matt VankirkÆs car wouldnÆt be able to make it past the first run between the two Nissan drivers and allowed Reeder to take the win. ôIÆm overwhelmed,ö he commented to Formula Drift after the round was over, ôMy team did awesomeà IÆm feeling really blessed right now and am going try to keep it consistent into the next round to keep the momentum going.ö
#gallery-0-26 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-26 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-26 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-26 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
With two podiums in two events, Reeder now holds the points lead heading into Texas Motor Speedway by seventy-eight points over Brody Goble and Randall Waters. Vankirk isnÆt far behind with only eighty points separating him from Reeder while Kevin Lawrence holds down fifth despite not qualifying for Round Two and is only eighty-two points behind.
#gallery-0-27 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-27 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-27 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-27 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Over on the Pro side, the weekend was far more exciting that most anticipated. While number one to number four seeds were given bye-runs, it still wouldnÆt be a cakewalk for those drivers in the end. The surprise, though, was Fredric Aasbo and Kyle Mohan, as Aasbo make major mistakes on his lead run including contact with MohanÆs car. He was deemed at fault and Mohan would move on to the Top 16. When it came down to the Final Four, the battle to watch was Dean Kearney in the Oracle/Achilles Viper and Kristaps Bluss in the HGK/Achilles BMW. It wasnÆt just for the action on track as it was the now legendary five-minute timeout where he had to make repairs to his BMW.
It was beyond a team effort as Chris Forsberg and Ryan Tuerck both pitched in to get his car repaired in time. However, while many would applaud this heroic effort, we should also point out that it ended up with a slightly dangerous situation with Kirstaps rolling off his jackstands to get back to the line before the timeout was over. Sadly, despite the efforts of the HGK, Forsberg, and Tuerck team-up it would be for not as the lug nuts on the rear wheels were too loose and there was no more time on the clock.
The finals, though, were still one for the Formula Drift record books and one of deep Irish pride as it came down to James Deane in the Worthouse/Falken Nissan Silvia and Dean Kearney. It was a true slugfest as both drivers pushed each other in each run. Door-to-door, these drivers looked like they were back at the Irish Drift Championships in their early years. Contact and rubbing, Kearney and Deane ran each other down with nothing held back. It came down to who made the least mistakes on their runs and the judges made the decision that James Deane would take Road Atlanta.
#gallery-0-28 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-28 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-28 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-28 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
“The two of us just gave it 110%,” said Deane after the round was over to Formula Drift, ôno messing around, and thatÆs how to have a battle. I’m super happy and thanks to everyone who made this possible.” Deane now leads the Formula Drift Championship by only fifty-nine points. Dean Kearney is right behind him while Fredric Aasbo is still in shooting distance at only sixty-seven points between himself and first. Ryan Tuerck is only seventy-two points back and Vaughn Gittin, Jr. is only eighty-five points back in fifth place heading to Wall Speedway in Wall Township, NJ.

Hanes Launches 2018 National Sock Drive to Help the Homeless
Simple things can bring great comfort to those living without shelter.
That is why America’s No. 1 basic apparel, underwear and sock brand is donating 225,000 pairs of socks to organizations fighting homelessness across the United States in its ninth year of sponsoring the Hanes National Sock Drive. Hanes is continuing to partner with national agencies, including The Salvation Army, Invisible People and Covenant House, while increasing the local impact of the program by engaging directly with at least one agency in every state to distribute the apparel. Since the program’s inception in 2009, Hanes has provided more than 2.5 million pairs of socks – the most requested item by relief agencies – to help the homeless.
“Most of us take basic apparel for granted, but we know a clean pair of socks can mean a lot to those experiencing homelessness,” said Sidney Falken, chief branding officer, HanesBrands. “Although we can’t solve this chronic issue facing our country, we are committed to bringing a little comfort to those who need it most.”
The brand also announced that the National Sock Drive program will expand beyond the holiday season to a yearlong effort. In addition to conducting outreach events throughout the year, Hanes has introduced the ability for individuals to participate in the program. Visit www.hanes.com/donate to purchase socks ($1), women’s underwear ($1), men’s underwear ($1.50) and bras ($6) that will be distributed in needed styles and sizes by The Salvation Army. On www.hanes.com/sockdrive, visitors can also learn more about homelessness and get information about the organizations participating in the sock drive.
Among those agencies are Covenant House, Family Promise of Coastal Alabama and HOPE Services Hawaii.
"We're so grateful that Hanes has again chosen our young people at Covenant House as the recipients of their amazing generosity through the brand’s National Sock Drive," said Kevin Ryan, president and CEO of the New York-based national agency serving homeless and at-risk youth. "The young people overcoming homelessness at Covenant House are good, brave, resilient, hard-working kids. What many of them have not had in their lives is someone who cares. With this drive, our friends at Hanes are delivering much-needed financial assistance to Covenant House by supplying practical clothing for our kids. Just as important, the brand is sending a message to our kids that they are not alone, that there are people who care.When our kids hear that message, there is nothing they cannot achieve."
Family Promise of Coastal Alabama, located in Mobile, provides temporary shelter and related services and support to families as they work to achieve and sustain independence.
“Families at FPCA work hard to make home a reality again,” said Diane J. McCaskey, executive director. “As they struggle to get back on their feet, many remain unable to afford a simple pair of socks. And while we know that socks can help keep people healthy and moving forward, our agency never has enough of them. That is why we are so grateful to be a recipient of the Hanes National Sock Drive.”
Hilo-based HOPE Services Hawaii offers housing-focused programs and services to families and individuals experiencing homelessness, while supporting their success toward permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
"We're excited to partner with Hanes, and appreciate the brand’s commitment to helping us serve our homeless community," said Kristen Alice, director of community relations.

Formula Drift Irwindale 2018 Title Fight
The fifteenth Formula Drift season ended with a bang at the Irwindale Title Fight. The event was of epic proportions, even begging the question from announcer and the Voice of Drifting, Jarod DeAnda, “Is this the best Formula Drift event ever?”
Matt Field was knocked out in Top 32 competition but still finished 7th overall in his brand new Falken Tire Corvette.
With the 2018 championship win down to a mere few points between Fredrick Aasbo and James Deane, tensions were through the roof. James got knocked out in the Top 16 by Forest Wang, and Fredrick made it all the way to the finals against Vaughn Gittin, Jr. If Aasbo won, he’d steal the championship away from Deane, but the most stellar performance from JR we’ve seen in years gave him the event win and Deane the championship.
James Deane and Worthouse Drift teammate Piotr Weicek eagerly watch the livestream to see all angles of the competition.
There are some exciting things coming for the 2019 season, with new car builds and new drivers on the rise. A big congratulations to Dirk Stratton as well for his Rookie of the Year finish.
Dirk Stratton won Rookie of the Year for the 2018 season and we are excited to see what his 2019 will look like.
First Place: Vaughn Gittin Jr. Second Place: Fredrick Aasbo. Third Place: Chelsea Denofa
