Atelier NL - Clay Service - Brunssum

Dezeen Awards is the most popular and accessible celebration of the world's best architecture, interiors and design projects and studios.
Enter before 31 March to save 20 per cent
Standard entry prices remain unchanged for the fourth year in a row, making Dezeen Awards the most affordable and accessible awards programme in architecture and design.
It costs just £100 per category for small companies and £200 for large companies to enter before the standard entry deadline on 2 June. But studios can save 20 per cent by entering before 31 March.
Create an account or log in to start your entry ›
Categories for architecture, interiors and design
There are 36 categories this year: 10 each for architecture, interiors and design projects and two categories in each sector honouring the best established and emerging studios.
Find out about the categories ›
New sustainability categories
This year we're introducing sustainability categories for architecture, interiors and design. These three categories, sponsored by design platform Dodds & Shute, will celebrate projects that strive to reduce their impact on the earth and which make positive social and environmental contributions.
About our judges
Entries will be judged by a diverse panel of influential industry professionals, made up of 75 architects, designers, journalists and academics from all over the world.
Past judges have included Norman Foster, who described Dezeen Awards as an "extraordinary endeavour".
Other 2020 judges included Paola Antonelli, Farshid Moussavi and Issa Diabaté.
Keep your eyes peeled for our upcoming announcements about our 2021 judges.
Why enter Dezeen Awards?
Dezeen Awards is organised by Dezeen, the world's most popular and influential architecture and design magazine, and judged by a panel consisting of leading figures from the architecture and design world. This means that Dezeen Awards has unprecedented credibility and reach.
Every longlisted entry will be published on the Dezeen Awards website and will get prestigious Dezeen Awards 2021 badges to share on social media and their own websites.
All shortlisted entries will be featured in full in an article on Dezeen and get further badges.
Shortlisted entries will also be entered into the Dezeen Awards 2021 Public Vote, through which the public can choose their favourite projects and studios.
Winners will receive a hand-made trophy and a certificate.
Winners received a bespoke, handcrafted trophy designed by AtelierNL
Past winners have described how winning a Dezeen Award has transformed their careers. "This is one of the few awards I have won that I can associate with new opportunities arising directly as a result of winning," said Joe Doucet, winner of seating design of the year in 2019 with his anti-terrorism public bench.
Last year's Dezeen Awards attracted over 4,300 entries from 85 different countries, making it one of the largest and most international awards programmes in the industry.
Dates and prices
Once you have paid for your Dezeen Awards entry, you do not need to make any further payments. The awards will be announced online. If we are able to hold a physical awards ceremony there may be a charge, but attendance is not obligatory.
Our low entry prices are designed to attract smaller studios and avoid categories being dominated by large companies that can afford to enter multiple categories.

Atelier NL

HIGHLIGHTS DUTCH DESIGN WEEK
Last weekend I went to the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. An interesting design week because it’s not all big commercial collaborations of already well-known designers, but you really get the chance to discover young talents – that’s why you see design icons as Rosanna Orlandi and Marcus Fairs in Eindhoven too. Of course you can also see the work of big names such as Maarten Baas, Kiki and Joost, AtelierNL, MVRDV and many more. There’s a lot to see – they told me that you need at least three days – but I did my best to find the true gems. Don’t miss the following locations and their designers!
  Charles Petillon for Sunbrella
You’ve probably know the work of Charles Petillon from his balloon installations. Now he worked together with fabric brand Sunbrella to design an installation with balloons again, but the balloons are decorated with the fabrics of Sunbrella. Check it out at VDMA in the center of Eindhoven. There’s also a cool pop up lunch restaurant going on there during the week by The Creative Food Studio and AnoukxVera. Location: VDMA
    Fundamentals by Dutch Invertuals
Beautiful set design by Raw Color for Fundamentals by Dutch Invertuals. They’ve invited 45 designers, such as Sabine Marcelis, De Intuitiefabriek and Jeroen Wand to show objects that usually remain hidden. The result is an installation with more than 800 objects. Location: Design Perron.
Workshop and store of Kiki and Joost
Designers Kiki and Joost recently moved into a new workshop and it’s worth taken a look as they’ve presented their work in between the machines they work with. And they have this lovely shop where you can buy their products and see the lovely door frames that makes a good Instagram picture. Location: Plan B, Hurksestraat 19.
Maarten Baas ‘May I have your attention, please?’
The winning installation of Maarten Baas x Lensvelt for the Salone del Mobile touched down in Eindhoven at De Kazerne. Try it out, make a lovely portrait in between the speakers or find your favorite chair. Don’t forget to go to a tiny little corner in De Kazerne where you will find a huge vase designed by Maarten Baas for Cor Unum. Location: De Kazerne.
    Atelier NL’s SAND
Atelier NL moved in a new studio as well and it’s a former church at De Hallenweg. Since a few years the duo collects sand from all over the world and in an alternative world map they show you the different sand. They’ve made a close-up from the sand and it’s of course always nice to see the white sand of beaches in Thailand or Australia, but it’s also interesting to see the black sand of Iceland for example. Location: Atelier NL
And hotspot wise? You can’t visit Eindhoven without drinking a coffee at Bean Brothers, having a dinner at Radio Royaal, having lunch at Onder de Leidingstraat and shopping at Sissy Boy. Enjoy!

Come nei due progetti precedenti quest’ultimo, ZandGlas glassware line specific to regions of the Netherlands e ZandBank study of 80 sands from across Europe,  Atelier NL processerà i differenti tipi di sabbia per creare vetri.

NL-BRUNSSUM-0086
“This sand is from Brunssum, my hometown. It comes from a sand drift at the Brunssumerheide, a protected nature preserve. It was deposited by mines Jaartsveld&Energie around the 1900's when they produced mined gravel, brown coal and stone coal. Locals refer to the sand as 'silver sand', saying it is ideal sand for producing clear glass. There are still several active 'silver' sandpits nearby. “  - Bert van Malde, to See a World in a Grain of Sand

A World of Sand - AtelierNL

8 HOURS IN TILBURG
The next couple of months I’m gonna explore Brabant as there are a lot of interesting design events going on. On Friday I went to Tilburg and I love to share my finds with you!
  Textile capital of The Netherlands
Tilburg is the Textile capital of The Netherlands. Designers such as Viktor & Rolf, Mae Engelgeer and Studio Job all come to Tilburg when they are working on new fabrics. The city is not build around one center as you see in cities like Amsterdam or Den Bosch, but is made out of small villages inside the city. Why? Well, during the heydays of the textile industry (way back to the end of the 19th century) the city had more than 125 wool fabric factories. And those places served as villages complete with stores, houses and sheep. A lot of sheep.
    Best Museum of 2017
One of the must visits of Tilburg if you want to learn more about the city, but more importantly if you want to see how designers work to create their inspiring fabrics, is a visit to Textielmuseum. This year the museum was awarded as the Best Museum of 2017. Apart from the museum they also have the TextielLab. Where you can get an up-close look at the production of for example the tea towels of Studio Job. There’s also an exhibition called Earth Matters curated by trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort and Philip Fimmano. They explore how designers such as AtelierNL, Piet Hein Eek and Hella Jongerius work with nature.
      Hotspots in Tilburg
Just like the little textile-villages in the 19th century the city still has several areas to explore. The Piushaven for example where the terrace of Villa Pastorie is the perfect place to have lunch on a warm day. Next to it you’ll find Pier31, a cute concept store where you can buy some local design. In ‘Het Dwaalgebied’ you can find independent hotspots like Meneer en Mevrouw van Hout where they sell mostly Scandinavian inspired design, new bakery Pig & Rye and Zoete Zaken, a patisserie with a lovely hidden garden. And ‘De Spoorzone’ is a complete new area on the Northside of Central Station where you will find two lovely restaurants: Houtloods and Eetbar de Wagon.
Coming soon: Anish Kapoor in Tilburg
Tilburg also has a fantastic museum for modern art called De Pont. I didn’t go there this time as I’m waiting for Anish Kapoor’s new art work to arrive on September 16. The British artist, who is known for Cloud Gate in Chicago, is currently making a sculpture especially for the museum’s 25th birthday.
