MiqoMarch 2025 Day 24 - Reason

After the Calamity A'tehmi and A'aba were the last two survivors of their adventurer squadron. And while they felt the same losses their reactions to it could not have been more different. While Tehmi had enough of Eorzea and all the pain she had suffered here, A'aba wanted to stay. Both had their own reasons and she knew she would not convince him. He had just lost his father and she knew she could not demand of A‘aba to abandon the cause he had fought and died for. A'aba believed in the Scions‘ work and was determined to continue fighting for a better world, just like his father had. Tehmi however stopped believing that there was much she could change at all and decided to look for a new purpose beyond Eorzea.

MiqoMarch 2025 Day 26 - Sky

Seeing Dalamud descend from the sky, despite all their effort, was like a nightmare come true.

Another tragedy beyond their control, powerless to stop it they could do nothing but watch.

She could fight monster and imperial soldiers but there was nothing A‘tehmi could do against a moon falling from the sky and especially not against the giant dragon that broke free from it.

MiqoMarch 2025 Day 04 - Family

In one of my stories I mentioned before that once A'tehmi and A'aba learned their tribe had split up and left the Shroud, they went searching for them everywhere - without much success though.

I imagine until the day she left for Sharlayan Tehmi never really stopped hoping she would eventually find her parents and siblings, although she knew that there was very little hope.

The Shroud still was her home of course, but without her people being there visiting these familiar places mostly made her sad.

MiqoMarch 2025 Day 12 - Companion

The Calamity had wreaked destruction all over Eorzea, causing gaping holes filled with pain and loss not only in the peoples hearts but also in the continents landscape. The Shroud, Tehmi's home, was no exception to that. On her way home to Gridania, only shortly after the battle at Carteneau, she saw with her own eyes what Dalamuds shards and the following fires had caused.

A pitiful whimper lead her off her path and into the undergrowth, where a small fox cub was mourning over it's dead mother's corpse. Tehmi knelt down and to her surprise the cub did not run away in fear but instead climbed onto her lap seeking comfort. With heartfelt sympathy for the poor creature's fate she decided to take it with her and raise it as good as she could.

MiqoMarch 2025 Day 20 - Memory

A'tehmi still vividly remembered the first time she had visited Gridania. She had been amazed by the buildings and the rich market displays. Nowadays it's nothing special but back then such a multitude of goods and food had been beyond her imagination.

In retrospect a lot of things made more sense to her now. Her parents had not only send her to Gridania for training or because she loved spending time with her uncle and cousin, they did so because they thought it was best for her.

She could still vaguely remember a time when her father and uncle had led the tribe together. But one day her uncle had announced he wanted to go to Gridania and become an adventurer. Back then she had not understood why.

Today Tehmi knew that with all the other tribes and settlements in the area, her tribes' territory had long began to get smaller and smaller. With that their hunting grounds and food supplies had shrunk too and with that of course their people's numbers as well.

Not enough space for two nunhs and since neither of them wanted to fight the other over the title one of them had one day just decided to leave. So when her uncle had visited some time later, as he did once in a while, and offered to take A'aba and her with him it must have been a big relief for their dwindling food supplies.

All she had seen back then was the adventure that awaited her and so she had happily kissed her family goodbye. Her father, always smiling. Her mother, crying and offering her a seemingly meager parting gift. Her little brothers too. Vett, a little rascal that had pretended to be disgusted, and tiny Viloh, barely a month old and curiously staring at her with big green eyes.

A memory she held most dearly in her heart ever since.

Thank you for the question, I like these kind of asks that force me to wonder about things I maybe haven’t yet 🤭

But since you did not specify which character, I decided to instead of listing the traveling basics for one of them now, I could just give you one seemingly unusual or special thing for each of them…

A’viloh: an Amalj’aa bone-necklace as a reminder that he is stronger than his nightmares

Rael: a raven feather as a keepsake of Frelsi, safely stored in their grimoire

Laqa: a talisman made from the tooth of the first drake he hunted on his own

A’tehmi: a worn map of Eorzea with lots of marking and notes she made while looking for her family

Nhagi’ra: the dried remains of a moon daisy flower given to him by his mother when he fled the Shroud

Iltani: a notebook she uses not only to write down what she finds interesting but, being mute, also to communicate with the people she meets

Styrgeim: a by now quite antiquated gun and a small bag with ammunition, one bullet for each of the traitors that killed her father

Elsie: her father's compass, the only thing that was salvageable from her burnt down house

Tomoe: two different vials of poison, hidden in a secret pocket. Both leave no trace but one will kill very quickly while the other does so very slowly and painfully

Tamaki: a blowpipe with arrows of varying effects, as well as a set of different explosives, including smoke bombs or ones to distract

Ty’at Rruk: Honestly, idk yet, so I am boringly saying a whetstone for her axe. Otherwise maybe some gift from Wuk Lamat if I stick with the plan of making them good friends

Phoebe: an imperial identification key ranked high enough to open most gates in the imperial facilities of the Gyr Abanian province

MiqoMarch 2025 Day 16 - Free Day / Departure

Leaving Eorzea behind and traveling to Old Sharlayan took Tehmi a lot of courage. She was unhappy the way things were. Her home no longer existing, her family lost and most likely dead, haunted by the happenings at Carteneau. There was no future for her in Gridania or anywhere else, so she took the chance hoping that her situation could only improve. A new land, new people, new adventures. A new life.

MiqoMarch 2025 Day 08 - Trial

Of all the trials A'tehmi had to face in her life the battle against the imperial forces at Carteneau certainly was the most gruesome. All the fighting and killing, the soldiers and the magitek weapons, and last but not least the dragon that hatched from his moon-shaped prison, all of it food for horrible nightmares.

Many lifes were lost that day and of her adventurers squad only A'tehmi and her cousin A'aba made it out alive. But even the survivors only felt defeated after all this loss and bloodshed.

I think I will make the arm ribbon from the Cloud glam canon for A‘tehmi.

Maybe when she left the tribe for training with A’aba and his father to become an adventurer just like her uncle, Tehmi still wore her hair as a ponytail and her mother made this ribbon (somehow weaving a blessing by Azeyma into it) and gifted it to her as a good luck charm.

It’s a memento, just like A‘vi‘s scarf was.

About Carteneau and the Fall of Dalamud:

While Rael and A’viloh only watched Dalamud fall from afar, as I described in the chapters written from each of their PoV, A’tehmi fought at Carteneau herself together with a small squad of adventurers, also including her cousin A‘aba and his father/her uncle. She and A’aba were the only survivors of their squad.

Sometimes she still has nightmares of the battle with the Garleans and their Magitek, the destruction caused by Bahamut and her uncle dying to protect A’aba and her.

While A‘aba decided to continue working with the Scions, believing into the good cause and working towards a better future, Tehmi needed a break and decided to travel around, seeing more of the world. The last thing that A‘aba knew about her and was able to tell A’viloh is that his sister took a ship to Old Sharlayan.

Since I finally created A’vanoh and A’tahja ingame for a WolQotD on bluesky, I thought it would be nice to share the pictures of the whole family here too.

(Well not the “whole” family, because A’viloh’s other siblings are missing but since I can’t make designs for Miqo kids…)

A’viloh looks very similar to his mother (A’tahja). She has the same hair and eyes. Only the bright parts of A’vi’s hair as well as his freckles and face markings are inherited from his father (A’vanoh).

With his family gone his appearance in a way still makes him feel connected to them.

The similarity to A’tahja was also what made A’aba recognise A’vi when they first met at the Waking Sands although he had last seen him when A’vi was still a baby.

A’vi also shares similarities with his older sister A’tehmi although she has a few more traits of their father too.
