Hello! I just discovered you recently, dived headfirst into several your fics and am so in love with them. I'm also incredibly grateful because I'm in the middle of putting a house on the market and your fics are saving my sanity. My most recent read is 'Ouverture', and I love bitter, slightly elitist and secretly disdainful Desmond. Now I have so many questions about Unity cannon (that you've cannonballed) if you wouldn't mind just head cannoning some future what if answers?
Does Arno return to France and get caught up in the revolution? Does Des come with and keep out of sight? IS Des considered a traitor by the Paris Assassins? Arno have an opinion on the Parisian Brotherhood? Does he have better Eagle vision since Des trained him? Do Paris Assassins read blue or white to him? Does he meet Elise again? What has become of the de la Serre family?
The French Revolution:
*random rooftop after absurdly flashy physics breaking move that avoided the lookout of five Paris Assassins*

Arno: "0uncle Pierre."
Pierre. "Figured. Only one other who could hold eagle vision that easily to evade everyone with that stunt without breaking his neck. He would have kicked me as he flipped over my head."

Okay, so let’s talk about the possible future of Ouverture and A New Way To Do Things in relation to Arno.
Arno will, of course, grow up in the homestead in this one. Unity officially starts 5 years after the end of AC3 when Arno is around 21 years old. Arno returns to France because he actually followed Desmond back to France (while Ratonhnhaké:ton and Clay had to stay behind for the Brotherhood and tells Desmond that they’ll catch up to him instead). Desmond returns because Lafayette requested their aid (he and Lafayette talked a lot during the American Revolutions as two French dudes doing whatever they can) and Desmond agreed to help his ‘motherland’.
This means that Desmond and Arno went back to France without the Parisian Brotherhood’s ‘approval’ so they’re going rogue (although Charlotte gets a visit and she cries because of how much Arno has grown).
Arno now calls Desmond ‘dad’ in this one too although he still calls Charles Dorian ‘father’ and they become embroiled in AC Unity’s plot as well, with Desmond having bad feelings because there’s something in Paris that just makes his skin crawl.
Desmond is sorta in a very precarious position in the Parisian Brotherhood, especially now that Sophie Trenet is a council member. A lot of the council members have a more forgiving stance on Desmond, especially after they hear how he helped Ratonhnhaké:ton take back the ‘colonies’ from the Templars but they’re not necessarily happy that he’s back. Sophie’s the one who is pushing for him to regain his old rank (not that Desmond wants it) though because she remembers him as being a good man and a great Assassin.
Desmond and Arno actually visits Bellec in prison and that’s how they reunite. Well…
That and the cannonball that ‘started’ the prison break…
Arno is officially a member of the American Brotherhood of Assassins (like Desmond) so he’s not thought of as a traitor but more like an outsider. Arno doesn’t mind though because his memory of France felt more like a distant dream. He doesn’t like to go to Versailles though.
Arno’s opinion of the Parisian Brotherhood is pretty much nonexistent. Desmond doesn’t like to talk about them, not even to complain about them. Other than say their ranking system is ridiculously long but Arno is pretty sure Desmond was being sarcastic (he was not).
Because of this, the Parisian Assassins appear as either blue (Bellec and Sophie) or white to him. They’re polite to him but also sorta cagey because he is not one of them as far as the Brotherhood is concern.
He does have a better Eagle Vision, one of the more advanced ones, actually, considering Desmond, Clay and Ratonhnhaké:ton trained him (and that means his Assassin style is a combination of his three instructors). The whole “I see their memories” thing Arno is also theorized by Clay as being a mutation caused by Arno’s close proximity to whatever Charles Dorian was carrying with him before he handed it off to another Assassin then returned to France to get his next (and last) mission. Clay believes that it’s some kind of POE and that it sorta mutated Arno’s Isu genes to be more prevalent in this case because he was still young when he was in it’s area of ‘influence’. Of course, that’s all guesswork and Arno just uses it to get more information.
Arno does meet Élise once more and it’s… well… it’s complicated.
While it’s highly possible that Arno would still hold a torch for Élise during that time, it is also highly possible that she would just be a distant memory, the kind girl whose parents may have had a hand on the death of his father (or so Desmond believed). Hell, if you want to add more drama in that front, it could be that Élise and Arno sees each other as ‘enemies’ this time around, their childhood memories being nothing more than the innocence of children that they could no longer go back to (especially with them no longer having any long history with one another so Arno sees Élise as a Templar gone rogue and Élise sees Arno as just another Assassin). (If you want to make it hurt, have Élise be the one to actually carry a torch for Arno while Arno had already fallen in love or may have already gotten married by the time he returns to Paris. To who? Ellen’s daughter Maria who becomes Arno’s childhood friend in the Davenport Homestead). Also, he’s seen as the older brother of Ratonhnhaké:ton’s children as well so, in many ways, Arno feels more at home at Davenport than he is in Paris while Élise’s father died because he couldn’t get the letter meant to warn him in time and she’s just full of anger and the burning desire for vengeance right now, with no one she can trust at all.
Also, also… Desmond has a reunion of his own to rival Arno’s Templar-connection past.
His aunt…

(Yeah, that’s right. The only person who knew Desmond as Antoine Faroy and his only living blood relative is a Templar, to be more exact, a Templar from the Radical Faction.)

As you stealthily made your way through the dimly lit alleyways, the tension in the air was palpable. Every step was calculated, every breath taken with caution. The echoes of your footsteps reverberated against the worn cobblestone streets as you neared the Templar hideout.
Sensing danger lurking around every corner, you and Arno exchanged knowing glances, a silent reassurance passing between you. The anticipation mounted as you approached the building, the sound of muffled voices and clanking weapons growing louder with each passing moment.
Drawing closer to the entrance, you could feel your heart pounding in your chest. You reached out, grasping Arno's hand tightly. It was a gesture of unity, a reminder that you were in this together.
With a nod, you shared a wordless agreement and burst through the doors, ready to face the enemy head-on. Chaos erupted as the battle ensued, the clash of steel against steel filling the air. The room was a blur of flashing blades, desperate maneuvers, and the acrobatic prowess that defined both of you.
You fought with unwavering determination, skillfully dispatching the Templar soldiers that stood in your way. Arno's movements were a fluid dance of deadly precision, while you unleashed your own formidable arsenal of combat techniques.
But even as you fought valiantly, the odds began to tip against you. Reinforcements poured in, their numbers overwhelming. It was clear that the Templars had been prepared for your intrusion, and the situation grew dire.
Despite the mounting danger, you and Arno fought side by side, a seamless synergy between you. Your unspoken bond fueled your strength and resilience. The battle raged on, each passing moment intensifying the stakes.
But as the skirmish reached its climax, a series of unfortunate events unfolded. A well-aimed blow caught you off guard, knocking you off balance. The world spun around you as you staggered, your vision momentarily blurred.
In that split second of vulnerability, the Templars seized the opportunity. They closed in on you, weapons raised, a menacing glint in their eyes. You were outnumbered, and it seemed that escape was impossible.
Arno, his face etched with concern and determination, lunged forward, his blades slicing through the air with lethal precision. He fought ferociously, his movements fueled by a deep-seated protectiveness for you. But even his remarkable skills couldn't fend off the onslaught.
Cornered and defenseless, you could feel the weight of the impending danger pressing down upon you. Arno's voice rang out, a mixture of desperation and determination. "Stay behind me!" he shouted, his eyes locked with yours.
The seconds ticked by in agonizing slow motion as Arno valiantly fought to shield you. The clash of steel against steel reverberated through the chamber, the chaos of battle engulfing you both.
As the enemy realized they were outnumbered, they took advantage of the chaos and confusion to slip away from Arno's grasp. They darted towards a nearby alleyway, deftly evading Arno's attempts to catch them. You heard the enemy call for reinforcements and your stomach dropped as you looked over to Arno.
His voice pierced through the chaos, urgency etched in every word. "Quickly, behind the wall!" he exclaimed, his eyes darting around the room for an escape route.
With a surge of adrenaline, you sprinted towards the nearest wall, Arno close behind. You pressed your back against the cold stone, your breaths coming in short, rapid bursts. Arno positioned himself beside you, his presence a comforting shield.
The enemy's call for reinforcements worked and you suddenly heard the approaching footfalls of the enemy coming closer. The sound grew louder and closer, sending shivers down your spine. The enemy was closing in, their intent clear.
Arno's grip tightened on his hidden blades, his fingers flexing with anticipation. His eyes met yours, conveying a silent reassurance amidst the mounting danger. The two of you were in this together, come what may.
The footsteps drew nearer, and the tension in the air grew unbearable. Arno's jaw clenched, his gaze fixated on the approaching threat. His mind raced, formulating a plan to ensure your survival.
You grasped his hand tightly, and your voice trembled as you spoke. "Arno," you say, the words caught in your throat. "I have an idea."
Arno's gaze met yours, his expression was grave. "What is it?" he asks, his voice laced with worry.
"I can create a distraction," you explain, determination coloring your tone. "It might buy us enough time to escape."
"No," Arno insists, shaking his head. "We'll find another way. We'll fight our way out of this together."
But you knew time was running out. "We don't have time," you pressed, urgency in your voice. "Listen to me. I can do this. I'll create a diversion and draw their fire away from you. Use that opportunity to get away, Arno."
His eyes widened in disbelief, and his grip on your hand tightened. "No, I won't leave you," he protested. "I can't lose you."
You meet his gaze with a resolute stare. "It's the only way," you say firmly. "Promise me you'll get out of here alive."
A flicker of pain crossed Arno's features, but after a moment, he nodded. "I promise," he whispered.
With that promise echoing in your ears, you turned and sprinted into the open, your heart pounding in your chest. The sound of gunfire filled the air as you zigzagged, doing your best to avoid the bullets that rained down upon you.
Reaching the center of the courtyard, you shouted, drawing their attention. They opened fire, and you felt the sting of bullets piercing your flesh. The pain was excruciating, but you pushed through it, sprinting towards them.
In the distance, you caught sight of Arno and the others fleeing to safety. Relief flooded your being. You succeeded; you saved them.
But then darkness enveloped you.
The smoke from the battle still hung in the air as Arno frantically searched the battlefield. His heart pounded in his chest, fear gripping his every thought. The deafening sounds of swords clashing and cries of pain echoed in his ears, but he couldn't focus on anything else but finding you.
His mind replayed the moment when he last saw you, the moment you bravely threw yourself into danger to protect him. It felt like an eternity had passed since then, and the weight of worry threatened to suffocate him.
Arno's steps were urgent as he moved among fallen soldiers and broken weapons, his eyes scanning the chaos for any sign of you. His breath caught in his throat as he glimpsed a motionless figure lying on the ground.
With a surge of hope and dread, he rushed to your side, falling to his knees beside you. His trembling hands reached out to touch your face, his heart aching at the sight of blood staining your clothes.
"Please, don't let it be too late," he whispered, his voice choked with anguish.
Gently, he cradled your head, feeling the shallow rise and fall of your chest. Relief washed over him as he realized you were still breathing, albeit weakly. Tears welled in his eyes, a mixture of grief and gratitude.
Arno's hands moved with care, checking for any life-threatening injuries. He vowed to do everything in his power to save you, to mend the wounds you had suffered in his stead. His touch was tender, his movements deliberate as he assessed the extent of your injuries.
As he worked, his mind was flooded with a flurry of emotions. Guilt gnawed at him, the weight of the sacrifices you had made for him crashing down upon his shoulders. The fear of losing you threatened to consume him, a haunting reminder of how fragile life could be.
Minutes turned into eternity as Arno worked tirelessly, using his knowledge of first aid to stabilize your condition. With each bandage he applied and each gentle touch, his determination to see you through this ordeal grew stronger.
Finally, as the chaos of battle subsided, Arno held you in his arms, his gaze fixed on your peaceful face. The weight of the world lifted from his shoulders, replaced by a sense of relief that you were still here, fighting to hold on.
"I'm here, mon amour," he whispered, his voice filled with a mixture of love and gratitude. "Stay with me."
Arno pressed a tender kiss to your forehead, vowing to protect you with every ounce of his being. He would never take your presence for granted again, cherishing each breath you took, each beat of your heart.
And as the sun set on the battlefield, casting its warm glow upon the wounded, Arno held you close, his arms a shield against the horrors of the world. In that moment, he knew that together, you would face whatever challenges lay ahead, hand in hand, and heart to heart.
When you finally awaken, you find yourself lying on a soft bed, your gaze meeting Arno's worried eyes. His hand clasps yours gently, and he urges you to remain still.
"Rest," he whispers, his voice filled with a mix of relief and concern. "You're safe now."
Confusion clouds your mind as you inquire, "What happened?"
Arno's voice is filled with emotion as he explains, "You were shot. But we managed to get you out of there. You're going to be alright."
A weak smile tugs at your lips, tears glistening in your eyes. "I did it, didn't I?"
Arno nods, a soft smile gracing his face. "You did. You saved us all."
Contentment washes over you as you surrender to sleep once more. In that moment, you know you made the right choice. No matter the risk, you would always go to any lengths to protect Arno, and you're grateful that you succeeded in keeping him safe.

Okay weird simping moment. I need an entire game that follows Arno's dad like he's some kind of reverse Haytham. We got to see him as a kid at the end of Black Flag, we've seen Charles die already (in two games no less), so lets do the whole life before Arno thing pls.
The Assassins in Unity are basically content to sit about, drink too much wine, and whine. This is fine but how did they get there? Was Bellec ever a sympathetic character???
Arno's lore mentions spending much time in north Africa as a child and presumably there's a reason. What were they doing? Did Charles get just as tired of his brothers sitting on their ass???
"History doesn't repeat its' self, it rhymes." How much does Arno's story rhyme with the past? Is that why they're all weapons grade twats to him?
I just need it. I'll settle for a book. Another absolute necessary but obscure comic. A VR entry. A drop of water for the dying bitch please.

A short little story that popped up while looking over at my Assassin’s Creed Unity novel. (Sorry for possible spelling errors)
The battle has come to an end, or has it? One Templar remains, facing the French Assassin, staring at him with daggers in her eyes. She knows it was him. She knows he killed them. Her hand has a firm grip on the sword, ready to strike, ready to slay him. He just stands there, not moving forward, but taking a few steps back. Something inside him is making a decision, but what? Is it a trick or simply an offer of peace? Peace… Why would an Assassin, a sworn enemy to the Templar Order offer such? It puzzles her mind and the grip on the sword loosens. He takes one step forward, waiting for the other to draw her sword, but she hesitates. He takes another step, opening his hand for her to take. She looks at him, confused as he smiles kindly to her. Why? Why is this Assassin offering this? He’s the last, she’s the last, both with ways to get an army and continue the way it always has been. Yet… Yet she does take his hand. There’s no tenets, no father of understanding. There’s only one Assassin left, one Templar left. “Instead of fighting against each other, let’s help Paris” he says and she agrees. No Templar Order, no Brotherhood, no more war.

I can already see the biggest challenge of Unity is going to be learning how to make Arno move
It’s both smoother and clunkier than other games I played so far, all at the same time? As in, he has an amazing range of movements, especially parkour (I get now why everyone praises it)
BUT! The reaction time in between keyboard and Arno actually moving is... Delayed, sometimes? That, and am getting used to how detection works in here. 
On more story involved note... I’m liking Arno way more than I’ve liked most of the characters in Syndicate? And, same with the story? I’m not far in (only prologue and the very start of Paris), but the plot so far seems more fleshed out compared to Syndicate’s “let’s go to London and eff Templars up because we are a strong independent twin set and we don’t need no Assassin council”
At least Arno genuinely did not intend to get into (that much) drama. He just wanted to steal some time with a gal he was head over heels for. It just escalated way too quickly. He went to crash the party and instead... Got accused of murder and incarcerated in Bastille (...at least I think it was Bastille. Again, not far enough into game to confirm)
Speaking of those... Okay. I am officially declaring that, in my opinion, French brotherhood had the oddest initiation ceremony we have seen so far
Very opium-dream. Very symbolic. So many robes and drama. So very few criteria for inviting Arno into brotherhood. Provided, I know nothing about Bellec’s backstory, and he DID spend a few months coaching Arno. But he also didn’t believe that Arno would come to the Brotherhood, so there is that. They did manage to put in a lot of tension between them there
(...I may or may not have had a few flashbacks to Ron Swanson whenever Bellec spoke)
All nicely wrapped up in a dramatic cave that can only be accessed by clockwork mechanism. Somewhere out there, Italian Assassins are weeping with joy that their love for mechanisms did not wither in other branches of the Brotherhood
PS: Pet theory time! Kid Elise was sent to distract Arno on purpose. Arno not being where he was left by his dad is what made Mr. Dorian linger, and that's why Shay had a chance to kill him

The desire to see an Arno vs. Shay confrontation is a deeply misguided sentiment I've seen from the AC community. It harms both characters' integrity, individual stories, and the more prominent themes they represent. While the community may be drawn to the idea of pitting these two protagonists against each other, such a conflict would not only undermine the complexity of their narratives but also ignore the thematic significance of their character arcs—particularly the exploration of fanaticism, disillusionment, and the deconstruction of power and freedom.

First and foremost, the idea of Arno and Shay as a revenge story imposes a false and conventional binary of "hero vs. villain," which is entirely counterproductive to the nuanced storytelling that defines both Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed Rogue. Arno’s journey is not one of blind loyalty to the Assassin Brotherhood or of revenge, and Shay’s defection to the Templars is not born out of a simplistic villainous turn. Both characters grapple with the fanaticism of their respective factions, and both reject extremism in their own ways. He witnesses firsthand how fervent belief in freedom or power can turn people into fanatics, like Germain, Pierre, or even Elise, whose personal quest for revenge becomes all-consuming.
Shay’s story in Rogue is also rooted in his rejection of fanaticism, precisely the Assassins' relentless pursuit of Pieces of Eden, which leads to unnecessary death and destruction. His disillusionment stems from seeing how the Assassins’ blind commitment to their ideals can create chaos, driving him to defect to the Templars. Shay believes that joining them can help maintain order and prevent further devastation.
However, Shay’s act of killing Charles Dorian, which devastates Arno’s life, reveals his lack of personal growth. The very thing that led him to abandon the Assassins— perceiving their willingness to use him as a pawn to destroy innocent lives in Lisbon—is mirrored in his allegiance to the Templars. He’s become what he once despised by serving their goals, blindly causing destruction in their name. In the end, Shay has simply traded one form of fanaticism for another, finding himself back where he started, trapped in the same cycle he once sought to escape that subconsciously regrets and knows he can't escape.
The thematic depth of their stories collapses by reducing these characters to a meaningless confrontation. Arno’s story in Unity is about rejecting fanaticism and finding balance, learning to break free from the destructive cycles of vengeance and self-blame that consume those around him. Arno’s ultimate lesson is to move forward, not be trapped by the past—a lesson he embodies when he fixes his father’s broken watch, symbolizing his commitment to embracing a new, forward-looking path. This is the culmination of his arc: not revenge, not loyalty to a flawed creed, but the personal growth that comes from rejecting extremism in all its forms.
For Shay, who believes the Assassins are too fanatical and destructive, a direct conflict with Arno would only reinforce the false dichotomy between Assassin and Templar rather than acknowledging the nuanced reasons behind his choices. Shay is not a villain; he’s a broken man whose attempts to prevent more destruction result in him becoming manipulated for it due to being trapped in his past and unable to move forward. What Everyone Gets Wrong:
Ultimately, Shay and Arno's journeys reflect two sides of the same battle with fanaticism, yet their fates diverge dramatically from the Assassin’s Creed itself. Arno ultimately embodies the true spirit of the Creed, learning the dangers of rigid ideology and choosing his own path, rising above the tempting cycle of vengeance and destruction. Shay, on the other hand, fails to live by the Creed’s deeper wisdom. Despite rejecting the Assassins, he falls into the same trap of blind obedience, this time to the Templars, becoming a pawn in their quest for control. Where Arno succeeds in transcending, Shay remains ensnared—trapped in the fanaticism he sought to escape. There's no need for Arno to seek and "defeat" Shay. It's already happened.

• The most loyal, lifelong friend you're ever going to get right here.
• Even if you two don't see each other as often anymore after Bayek became a Medjay and started a family.
• Talking about him starting a family, you were one of the first people he told when he found out Aya was expecting.
• Invites you over regularly to eat dinner with him and his family, along with Hepzefa and Rabiah if they are free.
• He loves that his closest people get on so well.
• You accompanying him, Khemu and Chenzira on their hunting trips.
• As much as he wants to confide in you after Khemu's death and Aya's departure, he can't bring himself to. Not only because he doesn't want to speak about it when the wound is so fresh but he doesn't want to burden you with his feelings.
• So he doesn't say much to you before leaving to track down the Heron.
• When he eventually returns, and is in a slightly better headspace than before he left, he was happy to see you, and Hepzefa, waiting for him.
• You two have a lot to catch up on.

• Will silently judge every stupid decision you make, his face tells you exactly what he wants to say though to the point it doesn't feel as 'silent' anymore.
• He will help you clean up and or defend you from the consequences of said stupid decision though.
• The type to have clothes made for you, regardless of your social status.
• Depending on your personality, there's going to be a LOT of disagreements between you two due to Arno's stubbornness (and yours, potentially) but he's willing to come to a compromise with you after enough back and forth, he probably won't admit if he was wrong though.
• Arno never truly gets over Élise and has times where his grief rears it's head, sometimes he'll allow you to comfort him even if it's just by sitting in the same room in silence while you both get on with your own things or other times he'll avoid everyone completely and try to keep himself busy with random tasks till he feels ready to see people again.
• Would like to visit the theatre with you occasionally or just relax for once and have a discussion about art or the newest plays.

• Spending hours with him in the pub, whether it be indulging in drinking games, playing Whist (don't worry he won't drown you in the river if you beat him) or just chatting with the Rooks, Jacob will make sure you enjoy yourself and hopefully get you to stay just another hour (and buy another round).
• Tells Maxwell about you and eventually invites you to accompany them on one of their random outings.
• We all know how that eventually ends.
• Both of you teasing Evie about Henry. Jacob will definitely turn on you though if he finds out you are courting someone/being courted, it isn't just Evie he's willing to tease.
• He would find out as much as he could about the person that you're interested in, especially if their the one trying to court you. He's been betrayed by people close to him before and doesn't want you to go through the same thing if he can help it.
• He'll make almost everything a (friendly) competition with you; Who can climb this building faster? Who can kill the most Blighters in this random street fight? Who can escape the police quicker?, things like that. Evie will even sometimes join in, which usually ends with the twins bickering after she wins.
• You and Jacob really do share the same braincell at times fr.

I have such a love/hate relationship with the Assassin's Creed series.
On the one hand, I hate that it feels like Ubisoft is maliciously designing this franchise to eternally suck money out of my wallet without ever giving me narrative closure or quality design. Like, there are so many cynical at best design decisions in this series. For context, I'm currently playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and I've already played every mainline title up to this one, except for AC: Unity, because I've decided to die mad about the whole "It's too hard to make a female playable character" thing. And for a long time now, it feels like each new title is shallowly chasing industry trends in order to try to appeal to a more mainstream audience. In AC Valhalla, there are so many mechanics straight up lifted from other popular games, but implemented so poorly and in such a vestigial way that it doesn't feel cohesive. Like, they tried to implement the pawn system from Dragon's Dogma for some reason, or the puzzles from Senua's Sacrifice. And this is a sad look for a series that was at one time so groundbreaking that it was influencing other franchises instead. In addition to just stealing a grab bag of mechanics from other games, Assassin's Creed is sacrificing its own unique identity to emulate other popular genres, with the combat in AC: Valhalla feeling way more soul-sy than it has any rights to. I mean, there are straight up boss battles in this game.

And you can't even just straight up assassinate anyone anymore. Like, if the opponent NPC is a higher level than you, than an assassination is basically just a fancy attack that does a little extra damage. Meaning there's hardly a reason to bother with stealth anymore, you might as well open up combat with a big flashy ability that will at least stun other opponents.
To their credit, you can change this in the Settings. In fact, if there's one thing they put a lot of effort into designing, it's the difficulty options. You can make it so assassinations are always an instant kill. You can make it so that opponents are always the same level as you. You can precisely calibrate how much damage you give and receive. There are also difficulty options for the stealth and for the exploration. You can literally remap the controls however you like. Honestly, I laud them for this. Although a cynical side of me feels like it's also indicative of a weak vision for the game. Rather than crafting an experience for a specific audience, it's another attempt to design for broad appeal.
All this is not to mention all the crap they've gotten up to with their monetization strategies. That could be a whole other post.
I've stuck with the series due to my interest in the story, and it feels a little like they're holding that interest hostage. Each new release gives me tantalizing bread crumbs, but little if anything is ever truly resolved or answered. It leaves me wondering if there's any kind of master plan for the whole thing, or if they're literally just stringing me along with whatever bullshit they think will keep me engaged with no end in sight.
But on the other hand, sometimes those bread crumbs are so good.
Like, there's at least one person on the development team (and probably far more) who is putting real time and effort into making a well researched, intricate, interconnecting story. Someone who makes me feel rewarded for my 100% completion tendencies with all these little nuggets of story and character and clues that feels like it all adds up to something special.
A moment for me in AC Valhalla that reminded me of why I like this series so much is when the viking protagonist travels to "Vinland" and meets some First World People there, who in the game are speaking Iroquois. And there is no translation. Like the protagonist, you are stuck guessing what they are saying from their body language and context clues. It's such a cool way of getting you immersed in the story and setting, and it really stuck with me. And then of course I searched online for a translation, and it feels like the writing team integrated the lore and culture here very respectfully. Like with ACIII, it's clear they consulted with real current speakers of the language, and in addition there is an inclusion of a Mohawk creation myth (which also ties into tidbits explored in both ACIII and AC Rogue). And those creation myths might have been shared simply as a nod to the culture being presented here, but it might also tie into the greater mystery surrounding the Isu, which is cool to speculate about.
Basically, there are some really cool storytelling things happening in this series, and it often motivates me to research and learn a bit more about real history. I just can't give it up.
I've heard that AC Mirage was more of a "return to basics", and optimistically I hope that means the game mechanics are returning to more of what gives Assassin's Creed it's own unique identity. But as long as they keep giving me those narrative nuggets of gold, I'm stuck for the ride.

What happened to Arno Victor Dorian after the events of Unity and Dead Kings ?
Following Elise's death at the end of Assassin's Creed Unity, Arno falls into a deep depression, finding little to live for.
He is also no longer part of the French Brotherhood.
In the DLC "Dead Kings", Arno is contacted by Marquis de Sade, who tasks him with finding a manuscript in the tomb of Louis IX.
Reluctantly, Arno agrees to this mission, and travels to Saint Denis to find the manuscript. During his search, Arno meets a young thief named Leon.
While the two work together, Leon's perspective on the world starts to break through Arno's grief, slowly showing him that there is more to live than the tragedies he's faced in his past.
What happened after Dead King is in the O.Bowden's novel.
I don't like his novels.
I will not summarise Oliver Bowden's novel.
But in the final chapters Arno found Elise's journal, and also Jennifer Scott Kenway's letters, where Elise requested him to seek unity for the two Orders.
It didn't go well obviously.
Arno rejoined the French assassins but we don't know when or how.
I have few theories:
Arno was extremely talented as an Assassin and his skills were too valuables
The Brotherhood forgive him after Germain's death and the rescue of the sword of Eden
The french assassins saw Napoleon's increasing influence over France and they need Arno to keep an eye on him. They became allies even though Napoleon's ideas were closer to those of the Templars.
Over the years, Arno earned the rank of Master Assassin and eventually the rank of Mentor (but he wasn't a bureaucrat as Mirabeau).
He took Leon under his wing and adopted him. At first Leon was wary of calling him "Father".
Arno presumably got married and had other children, as he is directly related to Callum Lynch, the protagonist of the Assassin's Creed movie*. Arno made a brief appearance in the movie.
He named one of his children Charles (or Charlotte) after his father and another François (or Françoise) after Monsieur de la Serre.
Did Arno and Ratonhnhaké:ton ever met ? (Reminder: Ratonhnhaké:ton is only twelve years older than Arno)
I think that Ratonhnhaké:ton became aware of Arno's actions during the French Revolution. They may have exchanged letters but they never met in person (and Connor had a big family to took care of and a very sweet daughter who was gifted by the spirits).
Did Arno find out who killed his father?
YES
He knew about Shay but he didn't hunt him down because revenge only leads to a bad path (and probably he thought that Shay was already dead which could be true).
Did Arno met Ethan Frye? Yes, it's possible due to the proximity of the French and english's brotherhood. Arno should be around 65/70 yo (if he was still alive).
We don't know when or how Arno died because Ubisoft never gave us answers (again)
I think that Arno passed away before the birth of the Frye twins, in 1847.
*I have a theory:
AC Unity should have been the gateway to a new present with Callum Lynch (and his ancestors like Aguilar de Nerha) as a new protagonist. But the movie has been a complete disaster so Ubisoft abandoned the idea.

Just finished grinding Assassin's Creed Mirage! WOOHOO! ୧⁠(⁠ ⁠ಠ⁠ ⁠Д⁠ ⁠ಠ⁠ ⁠)⁠୨

I think it's a deffo wonderful game and a refreshment after the RPG trilogy (it does have RPG elements to it, but still), and it also have some things that are lacking. It reminds me of the good 'ol days, but deffo not on par with the good 'ol days.
Here're some of my thoughts and reviews!
🕌 Sleepy's Assassin's Creed Mirage Review 🗡️
(Spoiler Warning ⚠️ Including the ending ⚠️)
Disclaimer, this is just my personal opinion. You may agree and disagree. I’m just gonna talk a lot because I LOVE Assassin’s Creed with all my heart. Here goes.
VISUALS
(+) Basim Ibn Ishaq, the handsome man that you are… HOLY SHIT (yes I’m adding him as the first plus point of this game what of it). Man's fine AF. 
(+) Baghdad’s really beautiful, nuff said. The color palette is PERFECT - displays the warmth of the atmosphere really well, but also just enough greens and many starking hues of flowers. 
(+) The waters and environment textures are CRISPY.  The detailed patterns on the clothes, the engravings and the state of the arts is really cool. I haven’t really looked a lot into the 800’ Baghdad arts, but I can see lots of good details and art styles. SHOUT OUT TO THE ARTISTS!!
GAMEPLAY - Now here’s what I have a lot to comment on.
(+) Stealth -> I think they did quite good with the stealth. One of the many complaints that I saw on the previous RPG trilogy games was the fact that the main characters/players had no reason to be stealthy, because they can just barge in and defeat the enemies easily. Ubi has marketed the game to be more stealth focused and intentionally made Basim a less of a fighter (make sense, since he came from a thief background, unlike Bayek, Kassandra, and Eivor who are actual trained warriors since they’re kids). However, this brings me to the first lacking point.
(-) Combat -> The combat feels janky. I feel like I’m really fucked up in combat situations if I don’t upgrade my sword and dagger. Like I get it, Basim is not meant to be much of a fighter, but in the beginning parts (or… even the middle parts of the game, let’s be real), I feel like combat is HELL. I forgot the Youtuber who said it, but he said something along the lines of “I’m an assassin, I want to feel like an assassin and want to feel like a badass and can take down many enemies with ease.” And that actually rings true with me. When I’m in combat and countless soldiers are fighting or following me (and I don’t have the smoke bomb with the forgetting effect), I’m most certainly FUCKED. 
(+) The fighting style is cool though, it's stylish and the finishing moves are sick af. It could deffo use some work. 
(-+) Parkour/Movements - It’s alright. It’s most certainly better than the previous RPG trilogy, but it’s definitely not Unity or Syndicate. Sometimes Basim can do something that I didn’t want and I’ve lost count on how many times I got caught and died just from a mis-movement. I literally don’t understand why they don’t use the Unity parkours and combat styles. Unity’s parkour is smooth, swift, and stylish. It feels GOOD. 
(+) Stealing - I’m a loot goblin in games, and believe me, I think I’ve spent like hours just stealing from the entire population of Baghdad that by the end of the game I’m probably richer than the Taxmaster and the whole entire Abbasid Caliphate. It’s fun, it’s easy, but it can sometimes be hard enough to miss. I just hope there’s more variety/difficulty in the stealings in different places – Like maybe in the Round City the diamond thingy is much smaller, or in like for stealing merchants (who has particular fashion/silhouette or have wallets/pouches with different colors) can be harder to steal from but have more rewards and money. 
(-+) Map - OKAY. I love the fact that Mirage has a significantly smaller map than that of Odyssey and Valhalla. It’s focused and it’s much more centered. HOWEVER. For a game this caliber, and with this good of a graphic? It’s much too small and it’s too divided between two parts. Hear me out – The graphics are really cool, but I feel like the map is too divided between – either a densely populated city, or just barren lands of desert. I think the map could be much much bigger with much more collectibles and much more variety in the terrains. Like, for example in Black Flag (The S tier game. Argue with a wall), there’re more than one major city, while in Mirage the map is so very centered (Yes I get it it’s the Round City), but I’d love it if there’s another major city that we can travel to, like Damascus, for instace. + I love the Tales of Baghdad. MORE TALES OF BAGHDAD PLEASE. 
STORY - nOW THIS… I never liked the stories post - Origins and here's why : 
(-) LET 👏 THE ACTORS 👏 DO 👏 MOTION 👏 CAPTURE 👏 - My biggest complaint for the RPG game styles is always about the facial and motion animation. The cutscenes feel DEAD. The eyes are DEAD. I almost can't feel anything. Ubi is rich af, why not use facial capturing? AC3 was the first AC game to use motion capture, and holy shit… it's one of my fave games. Yes. All games, not only AC series. The emotion in their faces, the gestures, the small glances, the little movements - they all decide every character's personality. The reason why I love every AC since AC3-ACOrigins is because the actors pour all their voices, faces, even body movements into the interactions between characters, because they make the stories feel alive. Let the actors be actors. I can rant more but this is already a long post so I'll stop. MOTION 👏 CAPTURE 👏.
(+) I love Basim's origin story. Dude's a 17 year old street thief who got a bit over his head and ended up becoming a fugitive because he killed the fucking caliph himself. That was crazy HAHAHAH anyway even though I think the beginning felt a bit rushed I love it. I just wish they could milk it more.
(+) I love the side characters! Especially Ali (I think he's hot 👉👈 and he's the absolute freedom fighter). Anyway, even though they don’t really do much, they all feel alive and do lots of things (except Roshan prolly HAHAHAH but there's a reason I guess)
(+) Roshan. Mentor and reminds me of Al-Mualim. I particularly love the fact that after all that wise words throughout the game, she literally threatened Basim if he actually went to the underground temple. And when she showed up covered in blood??? And THE TWIST AT THE END??? "Roshan bint La-Ahad". SHE'S ALTAIR'S ANCESTOR. THAT FUCKING SHOCKED ME YOOOO. She's just amazing. 
(-) Pacing - I feel like this is because they’re speeding things up (which is a good thing), the pacing is pretty standard in the beginning, but the ending is a bit too high of a rollercoaster mount. The ending went from 0-100 real quick. I feel like we need a more of a climbing storyline. This is why I kind of don’t agree with the ‘centering’ storyline instead of a linear story. Centering styles of story has no climb in the intensity, and because of that we can’t feel the character developments because he’s supposed to stay the same even though we’ve killed like 3 bosses already. And then when all the underlings are dead, finally the boss racks up Basim’s curiosity super duper high that it becomes too sudden.
(-) Weak Villains - The villains since Origins are always hidden and unknown, unlike the previous games where the Templars are literally KNOWN by the people. I want more villains like Haytham tbh, where he literally doesn’t care about the precusor sites and only wants stability in his reign as a Grandmaster. Or if the villains do care about the Pieces of Eden or have a prior interest of the First Civ, at least let them have an actual personality and character, let them be a menace and a threat since the beginning of the game instead of being the NPC’s we kill to finish the game. Let them challenge our beliefs as an Assassin/Hidden Ones. Let the villains actually have an impact to the main storyline. Imagine in the end Basim and Qabiha really went to the underground temple together, and got confronted by Roshan. That’s where the conflict in Basim climaxed! Imagine the emotion! The drama~! 
(+) How the stories interlinked with Valhalla. Basim is a sage, and host of Loki who sought revenge to Odin (who wronged him). So I don't think Basim nor Loki are evil per se. They're just gray. Now the stories aren't just about Templars vs Assassin, it's more focused towards the First Civilization. It's a bit hard to keep up but it's nothing a bit of reading/looking up some lore videos wouldn't solve.
MISC
We need more outfits! The outfits are far too few for us to choose from! 
Wonderful and mystifying music. Nuff said. Brendan Angelides and Layth Sidiq nailed it. One Republic and Mishaal Tamer’s “Mirage” in on repeat on my Spotify right now.
I love gear chests hunting and all the collectibles. I just wish the map is bigger and there’re more collectibles T_T I’M A LOOT GOBLIN OKAY.
I learn history of Baghdad LFG. I play largely for the stories and not the gameplays, so if there’s a codex entry or any new historical sites I always read it. Learning history doesn’t hurt! 
How I can really relate to the real world. I live in Indonesia where 90% of the people is Muslim (I’m a Christian), so when I here familiar words like Alhamdullilah, Assalam’ualaikum and Wa’alaikumsalam, or see the people praying, the Adzan sounds throughout the city, the people praying towards the Ka’bah, it kinda feels like home! Just hope that they add more funny shit to it though, like “Yaallah Basim! Istighfar!” Or “WALLAHI.” Or more Arabic sayings so we can immerse more to the world.
MAKE BASIM DO THE 5 PRAYERS (maybe when we pass time or after a big mission we come back to him finishing a prayer).
FINAL VERDICT - 7.8/10 -> It’s a focused game, and it really did come back to some of the original elements of AC before the RPG trilogy. It’s not too long and casuals can play it without feeling like we have to grind like Odyssey or Valhalla. Deffo would recommend playing it!

Earlier this year I got really into Assassin's Creed. I don't know all the games yet, mostly I know the first ones. But my friend got me to try out Unity, which takes place during the French Revolution.
But you see, a couple weeks ago, I read Rose of Versailles, the manga. Which takes place during the leadup to the French Revolution.

Hey Berubara fans what do you think of my Assassin Oscar?
The fact that her story ends when Unity begins, in the Fall of the Bastille, wasn't lost on me. Oh my god she literally died breaking Arno out.
The idea is that instead of dying, she survives, and joins the Assassin Brotherhood - which she was completely unaware of before that day. Bernard was probably the one who revealed it to her. I can imagine him being an Assassin, or allied to them, because of the whole Black Knight schtick.
Before then, her family was probably - albeit unknowingly - in the Templar's pockets, as they ran Versailles in the shadows.

Her outfit was inspired by the colors of the alpine swift. My friend gave me the idea. They’re fast, small, strictly carnivorous. I liked the idea of going with a bird theme for the Assassins.

Oscar died in the least problematic moment, at the start of the Revolution, believing the citizens would fight and be free after she was gone. I loved how glorious her death was, but couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if she were to actually live through the French Revolution (provided she survived her tuberculosis), and face the consequences of her actions - of disobeying her family and going against the royalty. I would have liked to see that.

rambles about the au below cut :3 at the moment I’m using Assassins creed unity as the baseline cuz I’ve been playing through it lol. So it takes place in 1790smthn paris during the revolution. but with starfolk as the humans. Maybe I’ll go in depth on non-Edda and Aven stuff later. ANYWAY-
So. Aven is, naturally, an Assassin. He’s around middling rank, and specializes in public spaces and social stealth. He’s a shadow in the night, but in a crowd, he’s a goddamn ghost. He often wears his hood down in public and carries no weapon solely to blend in better. He’s usually a block down the street before anyone realizes his target is dead, because he is unreasonably good at shifting through crowds and making a killing cut look like a harmless bump. The thing that keeps him from quickly ascending the assassin ranks is his lack of skill in open combat, and some insubordination issues.
Edda is a high-ranking Templar officiate, and spends most of her time planning counters to the Assassin’s moves and how to defend them. She wears discrete armor around her neck, stomach and some other vital arteries at all times. Her shoulderplates have sloped bumps in the center that aren’t visible in her abstract form, which makes most attempts to stab at her neck slide right off. And make a damn loud screech when they do. And, funny thing, she’s actually a rather jubilant person. She gets excited easily, moves erratically, and genuinely loves talking to others. That’s part of why nobody’s managed to assassinate her yet. It’s hard to find the right opportunity when at any moment she might turn around and elbow you in the teeth by complete accident.
