On today's episode of bleeding effect, but make it a mild inconvenience, Desmond accidently uses sentence structures in the wrong language. So, using Arabic sentence structure in English or using Mohawk structure in French or something. Anytime he opens his mouth, he just ends up confusing everyone

I felt a disturbance in the Force
It was sudden and jarring. And it called me here
If we are starting at the same point - Leicester, Eivor deciding to bring with the "tiny, feral child" Desmond with would be damn amusing! If only for the sheer amount of cursing from Ivarr. Having one's hamstrings cut isn't fun
(Desmond would have gone for the thigh artery, if only he were taller. Coordinating a child's body was way harder than a teen's - it didn't even offer nearly enough stamina to persist through sheer stubbornness!)
Of course Eivor would find it charming. She can be pretty good with the Clan's kids, and here she had a little drengr-to-be on her hands! With no one to lay a claim on him! One that looked more like he was of Basim and Hytham's ilk, than of any of the local's.
Mind, I think in this scenario she would clock on that something is off with Desmond much sooner than she would have in the teenager scenario. It is one thing to see a teen emulating Hidden Ones. It is another to have a younger child scrutinise her hidden blade as though it is familiar to him. It is different when a child recognizes the symbol Eivor had only seen used by the Hidden Ones
And given that indentured servitude/ slavery wasn't exactly unknown to either Nords or Abbasids...
Naturally, she connects the (wrong) dots and assumes Desmond is a (stolen) child of a Hidden One
That is one of the primary reasons ahe offloads him to Hytham. The fact that Desmond seems to be comfortable in the bureau, and tends to shadow Hytham? That Desmond, sometimes, slips and mentions Alamut?
Yeah. Those do not help
The moment Basim first lays his eyes on Desmond, when he looks both utterly shocked and cautiously hopeful? It's a final click that makes her assume that the ulterior motive Basim had all the while for trailing Sigurd, was, in fact, Basim trying to find his son
(I mean. The assumption is so close to the Loki's actual story, just applied to the wrong person - that the tension between Eivor and Basim that has been brewing for half the fame would melt away pretty fast. Basim would scramble to adapt Loki's tale to 'modern' world, and it would just play into all the assumptions Eivor had about Deamond.
I mean - Fenrir was also taken from Loki pretty young, kept separated, assumed perished before Loki. It wouldn't even contradict the camp scene much)
You know. I can honestly see things going much better for Hidden Ones in this AU. Humanising them in the eyes of the Raven Clan?
Meanwhile, Desmond would simply like for someone to explain what the heck is going on and for the clearly-Isu man to stop being clingy. All the red was giving him a headache that could almost compare to bleed-induced ones
Pardon if this is not particularly coherent, but I just want to suggest a Desmond who lands I to Valhalla... Except Fenrir was just an Isu, Desmond landed into the era in his younger (maybe just post farm?) body, and teenage Desmond looks a bit too close to Fenrir for comfort. This is probably a no ship idea, I just really want Desmond and Hytham bonding, and Basim/Loki having a breakdown at seeing Desmond. Because Basim is a sassy ass who needs to pay -_-
Oh, is it making Basim suffer time?
Tumblr media
(slips you the Basim mindbreak fic)
Is that a thing? Desmond looking like Isu!Fenrir?
I’m still on the side of “if Desmond and his ancestors are sages, he’ll be the Sage of Minerva’s son or maybe Eve”.
Anywwaaayyy.
So, the main point is that Basim has to pay but let’s shake things up so it doesn’t turn beat by beat from our other Desmond gets transported to AC Valhalla idea.
Desmond gets transported to Leicester due to his connection to the place (it’s Maria Thorpe’s birthplace) and he’s there with all his memories but in his sixteen year old body (aka the same body when he left the Farm).
And he’s just trying to get his bearings, stealing clothes because he got there naked (and he has no idea why) when he suddenly hear fighting.
Vikings had come to raid Leicester.
Desmond doesn’t know this, of course. His history lessons could be condensed to whatever American History the Farm taught and the databases Shaun and Rebecca prepared.
All he saw was people with weapons fighting other people with weapons and a lot of unarmed innocents getting mixed in the whole thing.
So he fights them.
Using his ancestor’s bleeds, he manages to disarm one of the men (holy shit, they look like Vikings? Where the fuck is he???) and uses his hand axe like Connor’s tomahawk. He focuses on protecting the fleeing civilians, not caring if he was attacking the Vikings or the guards.
Anyone who looked like they were about to attack an unarmed civilian gets Desmond’s attention.
He realizes soon enough that the invaders are taking orders from a man with a manic smile on his face and he tries to charge him, planning to take him out, but he gets intercepted by a young man who must be around the same age as his current body. They fight but it’s clear that the young man wasn’t attacking to kill him, more to disarm him.
So Desmond gave him the same curtesy.
By the time he had disarmed the young man, the city was lost and Desmond knew he was going to get captured (or worse) if he stayed.
As he ran away, someone starts to chase him.
He was about to get away but he froze.
Because on her arm was a familiar looking gauntlet.
The gauntlet used by Alamut Assassins.
He gets tackled into the ground and just as his attacker unsheathes her hidden blade, they hear the young man shout
“Wait, Eivor! Don’t kill him!”
And that is the day Desmond meets Eivor of the Raven Clan.
.
Things happen. Ceolbert vouches for him and he’s spared because he’s not a guard and he had been saving people. Desmond arrives to join Eivor because she has a hidden blade but it was clear that she wasn’t an Assassin. It was the only clue he has so they travel back to Ravensthorpe and Desmond is hit with nostalgia because they had an Assassin bureau.
A bureau that was quite similar to the ones the Levantine Brotherhood uses.
Eivor introduces him to Hytham and tells him that Desmond seemed interested in her hidden blade.
Hytham takes Desmond in as a recruit.
Desmond goes along with it because it’s his best cover and…
Well…
Hytham might be calling himself a Hidden One but it was clear that he was an Assassin. Maybe the Assassins were called Hidden One before?
Desmond isn’t sure and he’s already busy enough as it is to think about whatever history lessons his Bleeds didn’t cover.
Hytham’s a very cautious man and he wants Desmond to master the basics first before doing any missions.
Desmond plays along because he finds Hytham’s seriousness amusing and this was nice, taking it easy.
When Hytham sees how light Desmond is on his feet and how easy it is for him to freerun, Desmond just shrugs and says he had… brothers.
Brothers who taught him everything he knew.
Hytham sees the grief in his eyes and he tries to be like a big brother to Desmond.
Desmond, on the other hand, naturally gravitates to being a big brother to Hytham thanks to his memories of Altaïr’s relationship with Kadar and Ezio’s relationship with Petruccio.
Everyone in Ravensthorpe just start thinking of them as brothers.
Then Basim came back with Sigurd and sees Desmond.
He looks so much like his son that it hurts.
And seeing the distrust in Desmond’s eyes hurts as well.
Not only that, he could a connection between him and Desmond as well.
And he wonders…
If maybe Aletheia had succeeded in saving their children.
That Fenrir had been reborn as Desmond just like him?
Desmond, on the other hand, feels it too.
It was similar to that annoying itch he would have whenever he was with Eivor but, with Eivor, it was easy to ignore.
Sigurd though… it was a bit hard to ignore but he could still ignore it if he focused hard enough.
Basim though…
All he could feel was the desire to stab Basim.
Something inside him was telling that Basim was dangerous.
He doesn’t know it but his senses knew that Basim was a fully assimilated Sage. He was, for all intent and purposes, already an Isu. And Desmond’s mind has been truly traumatized by his death and he had associated that death with Minerva and Juno.
With the Isus.
So his senses, while he might not fully understand them, sees Isus as enemies.
And Basim…
He swirls as red in his Eagle Vision because of that.
Because of this, Desmond is wary and suspicious as fuck of Basim. He can’t kill him though because he’s well-liked and, as far as he knows, Basim hasn’t done anything yet.
But he’s definitely not going to be buddy-buddy with him.
Everyone sees it but assumes it’s because Desmond’s worried Basim would take away Hytham from him (and they think it’s cute).
Basim sees the distrusts and hostility in Desmond’s eyes and he could feel his heart breaking.
He tries to talk to Desmond, to get him to like him (to get him to remember his life as Fenrir) but it was clear that Desmond was only being polite because it’s what’s expected of him.
But he still tries.
And the more Basim tries, the more Desmond feels unsure of him. His instincts keeps telling him to kill Basim as soon as possible but Basim is kind to him.
Basim is treating him like a son and Desmond’s ‘tense’ relationship with Bill left him too messed up for this kind of thing.
And Desmond knew that was dangerous.
So he keeps his guard up. He keeps being suspicious of Basim.
And that only serves to create this loop of confusion and pain between them because Basim is truly trying to connect with the boy he assumed to be his reincarnated son while Desmond is trying to stop himself from getting too close to someone who may or may not be up to no good.

I have finally surfaced from the deep waters of Baldur's Gate that had me drowning for the last few months
And so, I have moved on to Assassin's Creed: Mirage
It's interesting how much it ifeels both like AC1 and AC: Origins at once. Yet you can still tell it was supposed to be a Valhalla DLC - the movements, NPC behavior (unless they are the named ones), even, to a point, the environment - reminds me of Valhalla
And yet they somehow managed to fit the mission style (at least so far) that resembles ACII into it. And finally! There is way more clutter that you can climb all over
Now
To the story itself
Baby Basim is adorable and should be protected at all costs. And should not be allowed to go without a beard
Mind, I'm not even done with the first major assassination - so that may well change yet. But right now? He reminds me of a mix of Ezio and Bayek, leaning more towards Bayek. Which makes my Bayek-loving heart beat faster.
But you can definitely tell he is his own character, still. For one - I don't think I've ever spent as much time pickpocketing people as I did here. Just going around Bazaar and nabbing the shiny golden pouches? Feels natural with Basim. And fun. I already have the achievement for it, one play session in
Stealth is another thing entirely... I'm not sure it's because I switched to a narrower keyboard recently, or is it me being rusty with AC games - or maybe even because it's intended as such. But Basim definitely feels like a glass canon. Parkouring? Assassinating? Those feel VERY comfortable, even without any substantial long-range weapon (like the bows we had in the three previous games). There are plenty of places to hide and plenty other options to use instead of taking the direct fight. But direct fight? I'll have to try and change the keybindings for dodge and parry just to make sure it's not due to keyboard - but direct fight feels lousy. Not because you can't do it, but because Basim seems to take so much damage
I'm very eager to see how Caravanserai mission will turn out

A silly comic why William Miles was kicked out of the Brotherhood. 😆 Bayek has no tolerance for abusers.

#so this means that desmond gets to be aita’s sage #but desmond’s sage-ness gets whacked by his isu:human gene ratio#and if aita knows about desmond #that would mean all his other sages#who received his memories #would know about desmond #that would change bartholomew’s actions to edward kenway #and even their whole priority #from juno to desmond #would this make juno stop from getting desmond killed? #and change her plans #to make desmond remember all of aita's memories? XD
I admit that this is not what I have been thinking when I wrote that post. In fact, I was thinking more along the lines of "Aita Sage stalking Desmond" but by Isu, I like your version more
Granted, I would also like to see how Mirage played off the Isu taking over/communing with their host. Just on top of Odin/Eivor experience. Because I meant it when I said Aita's aim was to end up with Desmond - either as host or companion. Consider it a... Twisted kind of crush/care?
It would be even more interesting if the Sage memories start to awaken in Desmond AFTER he is kidnapped by Abstergo. First, to do as we do and tormen out dear with even more doubts as to his sanity, and second - because of the ample opportunity to have Aita seethe in rage. Maybe subtly take over and do something to animus?
Speaking of - it WOULD change the other Sage's actions towards Desmond's ancestors - but I'm not sure it would be too big a deviation. For the simple reason of - certain things still need to happen, as far as Aita knows, for Desmond to be born. Maybe less outright betrayal, more pigtail pulling? However - imagine the memories glitching midview because suddenly the rest of Sages got memories of Desmond and the timeline is adjusting on the fly. Oh the shock, oh the terror of all and any techns taking care of Animus
Interestingly enough, I am of teo minds of whether Juno would work to save Desmond or not. On one hand - she is the type that seems like she would, given how much she did to keep him alive. Seeing it as the best way to get her spouse back, up to and even omitting referring to Desmond as, well, "Desmond"
On the other hand - the first opportunity for them to truly meet would be in the Vault under Vatican, and I can see Aita taking sharp offence to her trying to control "their" body. That may or may not be a catalyst to fallout, wherein Aita is more invested in keeping Desmond than rekindling... whatever, with Juno
A terrible thought visited me today and would not leave. Thus, I am left with no choice but to inflict it on others:
Elijah was born an ordinary-ish boy
But instead, we have a convoulted Aita/Desmond, wherein Aita's thoughts started to stray in all the worst ways when he witnessed calculations. And Desmond's role in them
Reaching modern times has been the goal: agreeing to Juno's initial experiments and then, to take the mead - was all just the means to do so

Desmond, hugging Elijah: I don't know why people say parenting is hard, I just do the opposite of what William has ever done with me!
Not pictured: *Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton trying to stop a very angry Altaïr from resuscitating just to punch William in the face*

Please hear me out: fashion intervention but Bleeding Effect style. In other words: Assassins of the past taking umbrage to modern Assassin garb
They understand the nessessity
They also have issues accepting it
