All right so my full blood results have came in, and I'm not a doctor but from what I'm seeing from the little most of these things have a little? Next to what I hover over it tells me about it from what I'm seeing I might have anemia?
My white blood cell count is a little higher than it should be still, my red blood cell count is fine. My hemoglobin is lower than it should, be my hematocrit is just a smidge lower than it should be, my MCV my mean corpuscular volume is 10 lower than where it should be which is an indication of anemia, my MC h which is my mean corpuscular hemoglobin is lower than it should be which is also in line with anemia, my MCHC the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration is just like three points below what it should be which is say it with me and indication of anemia.
I also have a high platelet count which they it says could be because of the heart disease and the diabetes I have. I also have double nearly double amount of this is absolute neutrophils? "Neotrophilic granulocytes are the most abundant white blood cell. Neutrophils are an essential component of the immune system. They respond to bacterial infections and other types of inflammation."
But you know other than that my cholesterol total is good my HDL cholesterol which is a good cholesterol is a little lower and then we want, my LDL cholesterol the bad cholesterol is low which is good, and my triglycerides are a little high.
My glucose and my creatine are both also a little high and my AST, aspartate Aminotransferase is like one below where it should be I'm supposed to be between 10 and 30 and it's at 9. But otherwise everything else in my comprehensive metabolic panel is perfect.

This time, I would like to talk about alcoholism with an explanation of the image.
The image that will come out now is the result of a blood test when I was 30 years old.
This time, for those who are "tormented by alcohol" right now, we are explaining the blood test items and specific ways to quit.
Even if you are not an alcoholic, this information is also useful for those who are worried that they can't stop drinking.
Please take a look.
Then let's go.
I am currently providing counseling for people who have a reclusion or difficulty in living through a service called Coconara.
Not only the parties involved, but also the families are eligible.
If you are interested, please see the following article.
1. Alcoholism | Explanation of blood test results
・Image of blood test results when it's bad
October 4, 2023
γ-GTP has a red line.
The number at this time was still low.
Because this number is the most recent number to get out of alcoholism.
In my mid-20s, it was so painful that I remember that when I went to an alcohol hospital and measured it, it was over 950.
From the doctor,
"If you spend your 20s like this, you will die of cirrhosis in your mid-30s."
"It's better to be hospitalized as soon as possible."
I was told that.
・The reason why I continued to refuse hospitalization
I continued to refuse to be hospitalized.
That's because my brother was frequently admitted and discharged from the hospital since I was a child, so I was well aware of the atmosphere of the hospital.
Because there was a very strong perception of "a place where people suffer and die" rather than a place where people are cured.
Even on the day I was advised to be hospitalized, I bought a lot of alcohol at the supermarket on my way home,
"Death has finally come to that point"
While biting, I drank the 2ℓ "Maru" in one go with a trumpet.
2. Explanation of blood test items
For those who are suffering from alcohol right now, I would like to explain "AST/ALT/γ-GTP", which is very related to alcohol in the blood test item.
Also, what will happen to the body when this number reaches an abnormality?
Does it hurt? Is it painful? What are the initial symptoms? Etc. will be developed.
Standard values for major liver function tests
1. AST (GOT)
Reference value: 13 to 30 IU/L
AST stands for aspartate aminotransferase.
(If you think of GOT as synonymous, it's OK)
This item increases due to hepatocyte disorders (hepatitis, fatty liver, etc.) and myocardial infarction.
It is an enzyme that mainly exists in the liver, heart muscle, and skeletal muscles.
What is an enzyme?
There are two main types of enzymes.
A. A digestive enzyme
It is involved in digestion, metabolism, energy production, and absorption of nutrients.
B. Metabolic enzyme
It works to repair old cells and promote metabolism.
This is the reason why the popularity of diets such as "beautiful with the work of enzymes" is strong.
Also, "Sake makes your skin torn apart" is also here.
The relationship between alcohol and each item
AST (enzyme) plays an important role in the normal functioning of the liver.
AST is usually trapped in liver cells or other cells.
However, when liver cells are damaged by alcohol, AST leaks into the blood, and their concentration increases.
Therefore, if the AST number is high, there is a possibility that liver dysfunction is suspected.
It may be associated with hepatitis, fatty liver, alcoholic liver disease, and even myocardial infarction.
・Pain and early symptoms
Hepatitis
In the first place, there is no nerve in the liver that feels pain, so there is no pain in the liver disease.
However, when the liver swells, you may feel discomfort and dull pain around the upper right abdomen.
Early symptoms include sluggishness (fatigue), decreased appetite, and fever.
Although it is close to the symptoms of a cold, people who suffer from alcohol are suspected of liver inflammation (hepatitis) and should be examined at the hospital as soon as possible.
A fatty liver
I also got fatty liver.
The message is that fatty livers also feel discomfort around the upper right stomach without feeling pain.
Since there are no self-conscious symptoms, get a regular checkup.
When it becomes chronic, fatigue and discomfort become noticeable.
"I drink a lot of alcohol, but today's fatigue is different from my daily fatigue."
If you feel that, let's go to the hospital first.
For such liver diseases, let's go to the "Gastroenterology Department".
Alcoholic liver disease
There is no pain here either, but as the inflammation progresses, you may feel a dull pain (dull pain) in addition to the discomfort in the upper right corner of the stomach.
The pain of dull pain is an indescribable pain, such as abdominal pain, menstrual cramps, and back pain.
When chronic, various complications from jaundice, ascites, and decreased liver function appear.
Jaundice is when the skin turns yellow.
I also had my fingertips turning yellow or my nails turning yellow.
Ascites, literally, is the accumulation of water in the stomach.
I often see people with "beer belly" who are very hungry, which is often seen in the city, but as a way to identify it, if you tap the beer belly, it is plump.
Ascites is very taut and harder than beer belly.
When alcoholism becomes severe, it becomes "sliny" instead of a beer belly.
That's because I can't eat properly due to withdrawal from alcohol or depression, and the only thing that comes in through the mouth is "alcohol".
Myocardial infarction
Myocardial infarction is often expressed as tight, crushing, burning, or painful pain.
It is called discharge pain, and it can spread to the left arm, shoulder, neck, chin, and back.
Pain often lasts for more than a few minutes, causing difficulty breathing, cold sweat, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.
Sometimes, it may be accompanied by fainting.
However, in diabetics and the elderly, there is a "painless myocardial infarction" where the pain may be weak or not at all.
In addition to the above pain, the initial symptoms of myocardial infarction include chest discomfort, shortness of breath, chest congestion, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, shallow breathing, etc., and cold sweat and fatty sweat may occur.
Stomach discomfort, nausea, dizziness, fainting, dizziness, and sudden collapse and loss of consciousness.
The heart may throb, the pulse may be faster, or irregular, and strong fatigue can often appear.
I think many people are hit by chest pain due to excessive stress.
For me, it was difficult for me to identify the chest pain that occurred when I was addicted to alcohol, as tightening or tingling due to daily stress.
However, myocardial infarction is easy to feel a strong sense of pressure throughout the chest, and it can be felt from the center to the left side where the heart is located, and in some cases, the pain may last for more than 30 minutes, so whether it is a myocardial infarction or chest pain due to stress in that part It was extremely.
There is also edema in myocardial infarction, but it was a dehydration symptom caused by alcohol, and my face was full every day, so it was difficult to identify this as well.
However, myocardial infarction also causes edema in the limbs, so be careful if swelling appears throughout the body.
People who drink a lot of alcohol on a daily basis and do not consume any water from tea or water will have muddy blood and the risk will increase, so drink water as often as possible.
2. ALT (GPT)
Standard value: 10 to 42 IU/L
ALT stands for "alanine aminotransferase", which is also an enzyme that is often found in the liver.
When liver cells are damaged, it is released into the blood, so the value of ALT is a very important indicator for evaluating liver function.
Both the first and second ones introduced are enzymes, but the possible causes will change depending on which is higher in terms of numbers, AST or ALT.
AST > ALT
Heart and muscle diseases such as myocardial infarction and myositis are in this composition.
AST < ALT
This is the composition for liver diseases such as acute hepatitis and chronic hepatitis.
3. γ-GTP (Gamma GTP)
Reference value: 13 to 64IU/L
It is an item that is prone to increase in alcoholic liver damage and diseases of the biliary system.
The general term for γ-GTP is gan-maglutamyl transpeptidase.
When considering the relationship between alcoholism and liver damage, there is a point to pay attention not only to whether it is within the standard value.
The relationship between γ-GTP and alcoholism
γ-GTP increases in proportion to the amount of alcohol consumed.
It is said that people who drink alcohol on a daily basis tend to get high, and if they quit drinking, they often halve it in about 2 weeks.
Overcoming alcoholism, test image after 1 year
In fact, I recovered from the image above, as shown in the image below, a year later.
November 11, 2024
If the γ-GTP exceeds 100 U/L, alcohol-related liver damage is strongly suspected and a specialist is recommended.
There is something called AUDIT (alcohol use disorder specific test), and if you score 15 or more, you are strongly suspected of addiction, so you can try it once.
As a note, γ-GTP may fall within the standard value even for people who drink a lot of alcohol.
Therefore, it is also necessary to check the AST and ALT earlier.
In addition, women and people with ALDH2 deficiency (people whose faces turn red from alcohol) are prone to liver damage even if they drink a small amount of alcohol, and it may be dangerous even if the γ-GTP is within the standard value, so leave the final decision to the doctor.
γ-GTP is not increased by alcohol alone.
Fatty liver that is not related to alcohol, drug-induced liver damage (anti-epileptic drugs, psychotropic drugs, etc.), and biliary diseases (cholestones, cholangitis, etc.) are also high.
In addition to this, be careful if you consume alcohol on a daily basis.
Points to note
Even if there is a slight increase (about 2 to 3 times the standard value), continuous testing and lifestyle review may be required.
Let's ask the doctor's judgment.
Why do I have polypemia?
What is polycysemia in the first place?
Polycemia occurs when the number of red blood cells, hemoglobin concentration, and hematocrit levels in the blood are abnormal.
This is because the blood is thick and muddy.
This increases the risk of thrombosis and circulatory disorders.
・Hyperemia caused by dehydration
Due to the diuretic effect of alcohol, water is released from the body.
By doing so, the blood becomes muddy and becomes polycythemia.
If you are chronically addicted to alcohol, the test value will be even higher due to lack of nutrition and liver damage, and continued dehydration.
The above symptoms are called "relative polyhemory".
This is paired with "absolute polychemia".
Here, alcoholic liver damage leads to hypoxia, erythropoietin is secreted, the amount of red blood cells increases, and polycythemia.
There is also something called bone marrow stimulation, and there are rare symptoms where toxicity affects the bone marrow due to alcohol itself and liver damage.
There are hyperlipidemia vera and secondary hyperlipidemia, which occur regardless of alcohol, so let's ask the doctor as well.
I was completely full of years of alcohol and lack of water intake.
I think the blood was very muddy because my face was always shiny and sweaty like light.
Now I consume 2ℓ water a day.
You can do it from today | Health measures | "Harm Reduction"
・You don't have to reduce the amount of alcohol first
You don't have to reduce the amount of alcohol "first".
If you can do that, you won't have a hard time.
Therefore, let's start with initiatives that do not harm the minimum health.
In this way, even if you can't work on the fundamental problem right away, it's called harm reduction to prepare the surrounding situation at a minimum.
Vitamins and nutritional supplements
Alcohol drains vitamin B1 (thiamine), folic acid, and magnesium.
Vitamin B1 is essential for brain energy, and if it is deficient, it will cause damage to the nervous system.
A disorder of consciousness that leads to lethargy, confusion, and coma.
Eyeball movement disorder in which the eyeball shakes.
Loss of exercise that makes it easy to stagger and fall.
When it comes to chronic conditions, memory impairment and "Where is this place?" It will be a Corsaf syndrome with a disortive disorder.
The numbness and swelling of the limbs also worsen, and you will fall into heart failure caused by palpitations and shortness of breath.
It is called alcoholic erasing nerve damage, and it also causes numbness and pain in the hand, which also leads to a decrease in muscle strength.
Muscle weakness takes away the energy to move and increases the possibility of depression.
Supplement with supplements and a balanced diet to prevent Wernicke encephalopathy and anemia.
Folic acid is a necessary element for the production of red blood cells and nerve function as described earlier.
When this element is lacking, fatigue, palpitations, shortness of breath, and dizziness occur.
In addition, white blood cells and platelets are reduced, and the risk of infectious diseases increases.
In the future, there is a story that I will talk about in the middle of alcoholism, I was blown away by a car and broke my leg.
At that time, it may take 3 times longer than the treatment period that should have been cured.
This indicates that alcohol has greatly slowed down the healing speed of injuries.
And as a neurological symptom, it becomes depressive and cognitive function declines.
Here, too, numbness in the limbs, taste disorders, and pain in the tongue.
It is up to the doctor to decide which is the cause of depression and the taste disorder caused by this neurological symptoms.
I also had a period of food that tasted like eating sand for a long time.
Finally, it's magnesium.
Magnesium is an essential element for maintaining the function of muscles and nerves.
If this is not enough, muscle spasms and limbs will tremble.
There are also "tremors" caused by withdrawal from alcohol, so leave it to the doctor.
With this tremor, I had to tap next to the sushi I wanted on the touch panel of the sushi restaurant.
The most painful thing is insomnia, anxiety, and depression that you can't sleep.
If one of the three major desires of not being able to sleep continues to be satisfied, everything in life will look like hell.
In the future, I would like to talk about being attacked by extreme sleep disorders.
There is also a problem with the blood vessels.
Arrhythmia, high blood pressure, and palpitations are also involved here.
It is an electrolyte abnormality, called hypocalcemia, and numbness, spasms, weakness, and arrhythmia of the limbs appear.
Munyumumnyumnyumnyu
It is in my nostalgic memory that my heart moves strangely.
Next time, let's avoid on an empty stomach.
"If you don't put strong alcohol on your empty stomach, you can't get drunk!"
"If you eat food, you'll put it back."
I think some of you have this feeling.
In this case, even a small amount is fine, so it is a good idea to eat food that swells up in one bag.
I am
I was eating fulgra.
It was nutritious, and I chose dried fruit to change my mood and eat it.
I was also eating popcorn.
It's salty and can be sood.
In addition, it also has dietary fiber, so it's cheap and grateful.
The vegetables were also good.
Leafy vegetables such as broccoli and peppers are rich in water and dietary fiber.
Forget about other health, put plenty of mayonnaise on broccoli, and Miho Kanno did it in a commercial,
Potatoes with plenty of mayonnaise
"Mayo Mayo,,, Hmm! I can't stand it♪
I was imitating and raising my mood.
Peppers were fried in salted kelp and eaten as a snack while maximizing their charm, and sometimes tasting the bitterness raw, while imagining a popular private izakaya.
If you like fruits such as apples, oranges, and berries, this is also very good.
There is a lot of water and dietary fiber, so you can get a feeling of fullness.
I used to drink strong zero grapefruit, seekworth and lemon, but this led me to that I couldn't eat this kind of juice or fruit.
Just smelling the smell of carbonated juice makes me sob.
Legumes such as lentils, chickpeas, and beans are rich in dietary fiber and protein, which can give you a feeling of fullness and satiety.
I especially want to recommend peanuts.
Peanuts protect you from the harm caused by alcohol.
Peanuts are rich in niacin (vitamin B3), which helps to break down alcohol.
At the same time, it decomposes a harmful substance for hangovers called acetaldehyde.
While being deprived of nutrients by alcohol, there were often times when I was defeated by peanuts.
The recommended amount that should be consumed per day is about 100 grams, and 60 grains.
It's hard to eat only when drinking alcohol, but in the morning, noon, and evening rice, I put about 10 peanuts on a small plate and made it a habit to acquire nutrients.
Above all, it is the most recommended snack for me personally because it contains "oleic acid", which relieves fatty liver.
What I want to eat the most is the expensive cashew nuts...
Finally, if you are stubborn about these solids, it is a good idea to eat konjac jelly from the fruit field.
If you can eat it, such as the taste of thick grapes like Koiwai and strawberries that spread sweetness, please try this.
For those who drink a lot of alcohol in a short period of time, I don't think they can afford to get water.
In such a case, drink plenty of water other than when drinking.
Drinking water or tea from the refrigerator or at night is a psychological barrier to "trouble".
So I wrote down the time between the time I was awake and the time I went to bed on a 2-liter plastic bottle.
quotemarkBy what time do I have to drink this much?
I forcibly took advantage of the black-and-white thinking and threatening notions unique to adult children to forcefully take it to health.
In the first place, it is very difficult to make it, so there are bottles with time written on the Internet, so it would be better to buy them.
It is 2.5 liters for men and 2 liters for women.
This is the amount of water removed from the water contained in food.
"Ah! I forgot to drink!
That said, it is difficult to drink 1 liter at once, so let's get into the habit of drinking frequently.
There are anti-alcoholic drugs that make you feel sick and vomit when you drink alcohol, such as knockbin, and Legtect and Selincro, which make it easier to get drunk, but I've already experienced it repeatedly, but personally it was subtle. .
I would like to make a detailed experience story about that at a later date.
There is also a gathering of friends who stop drinking together, AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and a soaking party.
I think it's easier to understand if you talk about your experience, so I'd like to explain it in detail at a later date.
At the end
Thank you for being with me so far.
The pain and bitterness of alcoholism, and the path to recovery from there, is by no means easy.
In the future, while telling my own experience, I hope to be able to talk about how I have been struggling and how much I have bottomed out, and I hope to deliver useful information to as many people who are worried as possible.
What I talked about this time is not medical advice.
Please be sure to consult a specialist for specific treatments and diagnoses.
In the future, we will continue to disseminate information about alcoholism and provide more detailed information about specific measures such as harm reduction.
Please look forward to it.
And I hope that those who are suffering from alcohol right now can find even a little hope and take a step towards recovery through this blog.
Thank you for watching to the end.
Also, thank you very much for purchasing the article.
See you in the next article.
Then.

Liver Function Test in Chennai
The liver function test in Chennai is a vital diagnostic tool for evaluating your liver’s health and performance. With increasing cases of liver-related disorders such as fatty liver, hepatitis, and cirrhosis, timely testing plays a crucial role in early diagnosis and preventive care. Whether you're experiencing symptoms or just undergoing a routine health check-up, knowing about LFTs—their purpose, process, cost, and availability—is essential. This guide covers everything you need to know about liver function tests in Chennai.
What Is a Liver Function Test (LFT)?
A Liver Function Test (LFT) is a group of blood tests that help assess the liver's efficiency and detect liver inflammation, damage, or disease. These tests evaluate enzymes, proteins, and bilirubin levels that indicate how well your liver is functioning.
Key Parameters in an LFT:
Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) – Elevated levels can indicate liver cell damage.
Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) – High values can reflect liver or muscle damage.
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) – Increased levels can suggest bile duct blockage or bone conditions.
Bilirubin (Total and Direct) – High bilirubin levels may cause jaundice.
Albumin and Total Protein – Low levels might suggest chronic liver disease.
Why Is a Liver Function Test Important?
The liver is responsible for filtering toxins, digesting fats, and producing essential proteins. When it becomes compromised, the effects can be serious and systemic. The Liver Function Test in Chennai is recommended for:
Early Detection: Helps identify liver conditions such as hepatitis, fatty liver, or cirrhosis before symptoms become severe.
Monitoring Chronic Conditions: Tracks liver performance in patients with long-term liver issues.

Liver Enzymes Test Explained – What SGPT/SGOT Mean

The liver is one of the most important organs in your body. It performs hundreds of functions, including filtering toxins, producing bile, and supporting digestion and metabolism. When your liver is under stress or not functioning properly, certain enzymes in your blood can increase. Two of the most common enzymes tested are SGPT (ALT) and SGOT (AST). In this blog, we will break down what these enzymes mean, why your doctor might suggest this test, and what the results indicate.
What is a Liver Enzymes Test?
A liver enzymes test is a type of blood test used to evaluate the health of your liver. It measures specific proteins (called enzymes) that the liver releases into your blood. When liver cells are damaged, these enzymes leak into your bloodstream. The most commonly tested liver enzymes are:
SGPT (ALT) – Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase
SGOT (AST) – Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase
Why Do Doctors Recommend a Liver Enzymes Test?
Your doctor may ask for a liver enzymes test if you show symptoms of liver problems or are at risk due to lifestyle or existing health conditions. Some common reasons include:
Fatigue or weakness
Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
Abdominal pain or swelling
Dark urine or pale stools
Alcohol consumption
Hepatitis (A, B, or C)
Obesity or fatty liver
Long-term medication usage
Diabetes or high cholesterol
What is SGPT (ALT)?
SGPT, also known as ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase), is an enzyme mainly found in the liver. It plays a role in converting proteins into energy for liver cells. When liver cells are damaged or inflamed, SGPT leaks into the bloodstream.
Normal SGPT Levels:
For men: 7 to 56 units per liter of blood
For women: 7 to 45 units per liter
What Does High SGPT Mean?
High SGPT levels may indicate:
Liver inflammation (Hepatitis)
Fatty liver disease
Alcohol-related liver damage
Liver infection or injury
Side effects of medications
Obesity-related liver stress
Sometimes, even intense physical activity or certain supplements can temporarily raise SGPT levels.
What is SGOT (AST)?
SGOT, also known as AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase), is an enzyme found not just in the liver, but also in the heart, kidneys, muscles, and brain. So, while it can point to liver damage, it may also indicate problems in other organs.
Normal SGOT Levels:
For men: 8 to 48 units per liter of blood
For women: 8 to 43 units per liter
What Does High SGOT Mean?
High SGOT levels may be due to:
Liver damage or cirrhosis
Heart disease or recent heart attack
Muscle injuries
Pancreatitis
Alcohol abuse
Use of certain drugs or supplements
If both SGPT and SGOT are elevated, it’s more likely to be a liver-related issue.
SGPT vs SGOT – What's the Difference?
Feature
SGPT (ALT)
SGOT (AST)
Location
Mainly in the liver
Liver, heart, kidneys, muscles, brain
Specificity
More liver-specific
Less liver-specific
Indicates
Liver damage
Liver, heart, or muscle damage
Normal Range
7–56 U/L
8–48 U/L
Conclusion: If only SGPT is high, it's more likely to be liver-specific. If both are high, the doctor may run further tests.
Other Liver Tests Often Done Together
To get a full picture of liver health, doctors may also recommend:
ALP (Alkaline Phosphatase) – Linked to bile ducts
GGT (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase) – Linked to alcohol use or bile problems
Bilirubin – Indicates liver’s ability to process waste
Albumin and Total Protein – Reflects liver's protein production
PT/INR – Measures blood clotting, another liver function
What to Do if SGPT/SGOT Are High?
If your test results show high liver enzymes, don’t panic. A one-time elevation doesn’t always mean serious disease. Here's what you should do:
1. Follow-Up Testing
Your doctor may repeat the test after a few weeks or recommend imaging (ultrasound/CT scan) to check for liver fat, fibrosis, or tumors.
2. Lifestyle Changes
Avoid alcohol completely
Maintain a healthy diet (low-fat, high-fiber)
Exercise regularly
Control blood sugar and cholesterol
Stay hydrated
3. Review Medications

Reading And Interpreting Your Liver Function Test - A Guide To Commonly Used Liver Tests

The liver is a vital organ responsible for numerous metabolic functions in the body, including detoxification, protein synthesis, and bile production. Monitoring liver health is crucial for early detection and management of liver diseases. One of the primary tools for assessing liver function is the Liver Function Test (LFT). In this guide, we will delve into the commonly used liver tests, how to interpret the results, and what they indicate about your liver health.
Understanding Liver Function Tests
Liver Function Tests (LFTs) are a group of blood tests that provide valuable insights into the health and function of the liver. These tests measure various enzymes, proteins, and substances in the blood that are indicative of liver health.
Key components of Liver Function Tests
Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT): Elevated levels suggest liver damage, commonly caused by conditions like hepatitis or fatty liver disease.
Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST): Similar to ALT, elevated AST levels indicate liver damage but may also be elevated in conditions affecting the heart or muscles.
Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP): Elevated ALP levels may suggest liver or bone disease.
Total Bilirubin: Increased levels may indicate liver dysfunction or obstruction of bile ducts.
Albumin and Total Protein: These are measures of liver synthetic function; decreased levels may suggest liver disease.
What are the causes of abnormal liver function test results?
Causes of abnormal liver function test results can vary and may indicate different underlying conditions. Some common causes include:
1. Build-up of Fat in the Liver:
* Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can lead to abnormal liver function tests, especially in overweight or obese individuals.
2. Liver Inflammation and Damage:
* Infections, toxic substances like alcohol or certain medications, and immune conditions can cause liver inflammation and subsequent abnormal test results.
3. Liver Overworking:
* When the liver is under stress from processing medicines or toxic substances like alcohol or paracetamol, it can result in abnormal liver function tests.
4. Bile Duct Blockage:
* Blockages in the bile ducts, such as by gallstones, can lead to abnormal liver function test results.
5. Liver Conditions and Diseases:
* Underlying conditions like Wilson's disease, haemochromatosis, or Gilbert's syndrome can affect liver function and result in abnormal test values.
6. Liver Injury:
* Physical injury to the liver, trauma, or presence of abscesses or tumors within the liver can cause abnormal liver function tests.
7. Medications and Supplements:
* Certain medications, over-the-counter drugs, herbal remedies, and traditional medicines can also impact liver function test results.
8. Other Factors:
* Factors like high alcohol intake, viral infections, autoimmune conditions, metabolic liver diseases, heart problems, and tumors in the liver can contribute to abnormal liver function tests.

Hep B Hepatitis B This is brief review of a case study for a 39-year-old Asian-American man originally from China who was discovered to be a chronic carrier of the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Over the course of the past 2 years he received treatment with the antiviral drug lamivudine. Once he followed up with a healthcare provider for basic disease management, it appeared as though he was anicteric. His lab work included normal levels of aspartate aminotransferase (ast), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), y=glutamyltransferase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase, INR (International Normalized Ratio, a coagulation test that depends on the liver's biosynthietic ability), and direct and total bilirubin. His HBV serologic studies demonstrated a positive hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg) that was confirmed by neutralization and a negative antibody to HbsAg, a positive hepatitis B core antibody, a positive hepatitis Be antigen (HbeAg) and a negative assay for antibody to HbeAg. Thus, the report aims to answer how HBV infection is transmitted from person to person and does the epidemiology of the infection differ between Asians and Western individuals. A second point is to use the serological results to understand if a person did not have a history of chronic infection with HBV, what additional serologic test would help determine if the patient has an acute HBV infection or if the person is a chronic carrier. Hepatitis B or HBV infection can be transmitted from person to person through when blood or body fluids from an infected person enters the body of a person who is not immune. Thus, HBV is spread through the process of sexual contact with an infected person without the protection of a condom. The efficacy of latex condoms has not been completely proven to effectively prevent infection with HBV, but proper use of condoms may reduce transmissions. In addition sharing drugs, needles, or 'works' while injecting drugs, needlesticks or sharps exposures in a healthcare setting or from direct infection from an infected mother to a baby during birth arte all possible transmission concerns. This implies that high risk groups are individuals that have multiple sex partners or have diagnosis of some other sexually transmitted disease, men who have sex with other men, sex contact with infected people, injection drug users, household contacts of chronically infected persons, infants born to infected mothers, infants or children of immigrants from areas with high rates of HBV infection, health care and public safety workers and hemodialysis patients. Although the majority of the nearly thirty percent of persons who have Hepatitis B show no signs or symptoms and the signs or symptoms are even less common in children than in adults, searching out the symptoms is a possible indicator to help diagnose the disease. The symptoms include: jaundice, fatigue, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and joint pain. Based on information released by the CDC, the number of new infections annually has declined from approximately 260,000 in the 1980's to around 73,000 in 2003. The highest rate of the disease occurs in those that are in the 20 to 49-year-old range and that the biggest decline has occurred among children and adolescents who are now regularly screened and take the hepatitis B vaccination. Nonetheless, there is still an estimated one and quarter million chronically infected Americans of whom almost 30% acquired their infection during childhood. The epidemiology of the infection does differ between Asians and Western individuals. Some estimates have up to 10% of Asian-Americans being chronically infected with hepatitis B and not being aware of don't know it. This implies a crisis for the Asian community in proportion to the AIDS epidemic. The medical community erroneously has been the typical Caucasian model for the diagnosis and treatment which entails that Asians are the same make up as Caucasians. The hepatitis B virus has been rampant in Asia and a large percentage of mothers pass it on to their children during birth. Although the virus infects males and females equally, it usually kills Asian males more often through the inherent cancer or liver disease. Asian children grow up healthy because the dormant virus hides in the liver and unleashes its destructive power during young adulthood. Therefore, Asian men in their 20's or 30's are at a high risk for liver cancer. Unfortunately, being born in the United States as opposed to Asia has not made a difference in the Asian population. The serological results presented help to provide insights into the history of typical chronic infected male. Other serologic tests could help determine if and when patients have an acute HBV infection or if the person is a chronic carrier. Diagnosis should be based on clinical, laboratory, and epidemiologic findings. The fact is that HBV infection cannot be differentiated on a basis of clinical symptoms alone so more definitive diagnosis would depend on serologic testing results. The Serologic markers of HBV infection would be the key fro distinguishing if the infection is acute or chronic. These serologic tests include: HBsAg - this is the most commonly used test for diagnosing acute HBV infections and therefore detecting carriers. HBsAg can be detected as early as 1 or 2 weeks or as late as 11 or 12 weeks after exposure to HBV if sensitive assays are utilized. The presence of HBsAg indicates that a person is infectious, regardless of whether the infection is acute or chronic. Anti-HBc (core antibody) develops in all HBV infections and appear shortly after HBsAg in the acute disease. This indicates that the HBV infection was undefined in the past. Anti-HBc only occurs after HBV infection, and does not develop in persons whose immunity to HBV is from vaccine. Anti-HBc generally persists for life and is not a serologic marker for acute infection. IgM anti-HBc appears in persons with acute disease about the time of illness onset and indicates recent infection with HBV. IgM anti-HBc is generally detectable 4 to 6 months after onset of illness and is the best serologic marker of acute HBV infection. A negative test for IgM-anti-HBc together with a positive test for HBsAg in a single blood sample identifies a chronic HBV infection. HBeAg is a useful marker associated strongly with the number of infective HBV particles in the serum and a higher risk of infectivity. Anti-HBs (surface antibody) is a protective, neutralizing antibody. The presence of anti-HBs following acute HBV infection generally indicates recovery and immunity from reinfection. Anti-HBs can also be acquired as an immune response to hepatitis B vaccine or passively transferred by administration of HBIG. Using radioimmunoassay (RIA), a minimum of 10 sample ratio units should be used to designate immunity. Using enzyme immunoassay (EIA), the manufacturer's recommended positive should be considered an appropriate measure of immunity. The level of anti-HBs may also be expressed in milli-International Units/mL (mIU/mL). Ten mIU/mL is considered to indicate a protective level of immunity. Fatty Liver & SGPT-SGOT: How Are They Connected?
Introduction
The liver is essential for digestion, metabolism, and detoxification. However, unhealthy lifestyle choices can lead to fatty liver disease (FLD), a condition characterized by the accumulation of excess fat in the liver. A key indicator of liver health is the levels of SGPT (Serum Glutamate Pyruvate Transaminase) and SGOT (Serum Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase), which are enzymes released into the bloodstream when the liver is damaged. In this blog, we will examine the connection between fatty liver and elevated SGPT and SGOT levels, as well as their causes, symptoms, and potential treatments.

Understanding Fatty Liver Disease
Fatty liver disease is classified into two main types:
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): Caused by obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, or poor diet, NAFLD is common among individuals who do not consume alcohol in excess.
Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (AFLD): This is triggered by excessive alcohol consumption, which leads to fat buildup in liver cells.
Both conditions can progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) or cirrhosis, causing severe liver damage if left untreated.
What Are SGPT and SGOT?
SGPT (ALT - Alanine Aminotransferase): An enzyme found primarily in the liver. When liver cells are damaged, SGPT levels increase in the blood.
SGOT (AST - Aspartate Aminotransferase): Found in the liver, heart, and muscles, SGOT is another enzyme that indicates liver damage when present in high amounts.
A normal SGPT and SGOT range is crucial for optimal liver function. Elevated levels may indicate liver inflammation, fatty liver, or liver cirrhosis.
How Fatty Liver Affects SGPT-SGOT Levels
When fat builds up in the liver, it leads to inflammation and cell damage, prompting the liver to release SGPT and SGOT enzymes into the bloodstream. This is how fatty liver contributes to elevated enzyme levels:
Inflammation and Liver Cell Damage: Fatty deposits in the liver cause inflammation, leading to enzyme leakage into the blood.
Liver Overload: The liver struggles to process fats efficiently, increasing stress on liver cells.
Progression to NASH: Persistent fat accumulation leads to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a severe form of fatty liver disease that significantly raises SGPT-SGOT levels.
Symptoms of Fatty Liver & High SGPT-SGOT Levels
Fatty liver is often referred to as a "silent disease" because it may not present symptoms in the early stages. However, some individuals might experience:
Fatigue and weakness
Abdominal discomfort or pain (upper right side)
Unexplained weight gain or loss
Jaundice (in severe cases)
Swelling in legs or abdomen (late-stage liver disease)
Elevated liver enzymes (SGPT-SGOT levels) detected in blood tests
If you have any of these symptoms, it's crucial to get a liver function test (LFT) to assess your enzyme levels.
Causes of Elevated SGPT-SGOT Levels in Fatty Liver
Many factors contribute to the development of fatty liver and the elevation of liver enzyme levels.:
Obesity and Sedentary Lifestyle – Excess fat accumulation leads to liver dysfunction.
Unhealthy Diet – High sugar, processed foods, and trans fats worsen liver health.
Alcohol Consumption – A leading cause of liver inflammation and enzyme elevation.
Diabetes and Insulin Resistance – Directly linked to fatty liver and high SGPT levels.
Viral Hepatitis – Infections like Hepatitis B and C increase liver damage.
Certain Medications – Painkillers, antibiotics, and cholesterol-lowering drugs can stress the liver.
How to Lower SGPT-SGOT Levels and Treat Fatty Liver
The positive aspect is that fatty liver and elevated SGPT-SGOT levels can be reversed through lifestyle changes and appropriate medical treatment. Here are effective ways to enhance liver health.:
1. Maintain a Healthy Diet
A liver-friendly diet can help reduce liver fat and enzyme levels:
Eat fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Include healthy fats like olive oil, nuts, and seeds.
Consume lean proteins such as fish, chicken, and plant-based proteins.
Avoid processed foods, sugary drinks, and excess carbs.
Reduce alcohol consumption to prevent further liver damage.
2. Exercise Regularly
Engaging in regular physical activity helps reduce excess fat and enhances liver function. Aim for at least 30 minutes of cardio exercises daily, such as brisk walking, jogging, or cycling.
3. Hydration & Detoxification
Drinking plenty of water helps eliminate toxins from the liver. Herbal teas, such as green tea and dandelion tea, aid in liver detoxification.
4. Weight Management
Losing 5 to 10 percent of body weight can significantly lower SGPT and SGOT levels while reducing fat accumulation in the liver.
5. Avoid Harmful Medications
Certain medications can place extra stress on the liver. Consult your doctor before taking painkillers, antibiotics, or cholesterol-lowering medications.
6. Try Natural Remedies
Milk Thistle: Known for its liver-protecting properties.
Turmeric: Contains curcumin, which helps reduce liver inflammation.
Amla (Indian Gooseberry): Rich in Vitamin C, supports liver detoxification.
When to See a Doctor?
If your SGPT and SGOT levels remain elevated despite lifestyle changes, consult a hepatologist for further evaluation. Tests such as ultrasound, liver biopsy, and FibroScan can help determine the extent of liver damage.
Conclusion
Fatty liver disease and elevated SGPT and SGOT levels are closely related and indicate liver distress. However, with the right diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes, you can reverse fatty liver and maintain healthy liver function. Regular liver function tests (LFTs) can help monitor your SGPT and SGOT levels, allowing for early intervention and improved liver health.
If you suspect you have fatty liver disease, take proactive steps today to protect your liver and enhance your overall well-being!
