Coming up on January 29th is the Lunar New Year. This year will be the Year of the Snake and we wanted to make a new print to hand out to visitors when they stop by our museum. This linocut was recently engraved by a colleague who works with Jared and he thought he’d see how letterpress printing it would turn out. The print is of a snake. The text above reads, “Year of the Snake” and was typeset in 24 point Caslon font.

This was printed using a 4x6 Golding Official No. 2 tabletop printing press. Ninety prints were printed on this press run using red oil base ink. It starts out with him just talking about the history of Cybertron , soft warm tones you can hear the gentle humming of machines, a tapping of a metal finger as he recalls memories.

Of course people and others love it.

At first when megs discovers it he doesn't listen to it on head phones and makes some troll comment.

Of course Optimus ignores that and smiles carrying on, he's learned about textured noises or doing spa treatments.

Megatron still being a shit on all of them but Prime still ignores that because he knows Megatron is just being a butt, he is not deterred, he's noticed less Decepticon activity since the first few.

One day Megatron can see most of his crew and even Soundwave have head phones on and he's curious as to what they're all obsessed with.

Soundwave acts like he was just caught listening to something very naughty and oh crap mum found out.

Megatron takes the head phones and puts them on his own head and Soundwave shows the display on what he's listening to.

Megatron sees the title and is like pfft like he could act like an evil war leader who's captured you and made you his special....prisoner....

He's listening to it.

He goes very quiet.

Optimus is waiting for Megatron's next troll comment.

'I take back everything , never stop making asmr...can you make a series of these?'

Optimus stares at the screen , pushes up his glasses and smirks.

"Got him."

We are often asked if multiple ink colors can be used on a single impression. In this video, Jared letterpress prints a phrase about museums showing that 6 ink colors is possible. The phrase “Museums are not neutral” was printed with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple ink using our Washington hand press. The wood type used is 15 line pica in size and the typeface is French Clarendon.

Our museum, like all museums, is not neutral. People often argue that museums should be neutral or that museums can’t be “political.” However, museums actually are cultural institutions that originate from colonial acquisition and they are about power. History is often written by the victors. It is important for museums to focus on multiple sources and perspectives, especially historically underrepresented groups. Promoting diversity is important to understanding a more holistic history of events.

I made this piece in like the dead of night because I couldn’t sleep, but I had the idea that this wa Earis when he was younger, and the queen (the hands) were tricking him to trust her after his brother died. So yeah! :3
