I was wondering if you have any thoughts on how Peaky Blinders uses the terms ‘Queen of the Romani’ and earlier mentions of Tommy’s line having Romani royalty, and the references to him as a king. Is there a traceable royal line, or is the term King/Queen used to describe a certain kind of leadership over a kin group? Many thanks!

The term “Rromani Queen”, from my knowledge isn’t really a thing. It comes from a mistranslation of words mixed with a sense of superiority.

There isn’t any proven lineage to royalty - I think it’s just a “status” thing. Some families are more “infamous” than others, which may also lead to it.

Honestly it’s always confused me so… I’m not 100% sure but that is my perception of it!
