The Ashoka Chakra: A Symbol of Dharma and Peace
In the center of India's national flag, the Ashoka Chakra is much more than just a design - it is a symbolism that reaches deep into Buddhism and Indian history. It got its name from Emperor Ashoka, the greatest ruler India has ever had in its history. The Ashoka Chakra depicts the Dharmachakra, or the "Wheel of Dharma," which refers to and represents the path of righteousness and the spread of Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings.
The story of Emperor Ashoka's transformation is one of the marvellous stories ever. He was overwhelmed by feelings of repentance at the excesses of bloodshed in the Kalinga War. It was then that he converted to Buddhism and pledged to give up violence and live for the principles of Dharma: compassion, truth, and non-violence. It was truly representative of this great change in Ashoka's life and his commitment to spreading the teachings of The Buddha in the Ashoka Chakra.
The wheel, with 24 spokes in the Ashoka Chakra, is symbolically important. Each spoke holds an attribute of Shakyamuni Buddha's teaching in a different way, like compassion, courage, patience, peace, and values that rule upon ethics and morals in life. These spokes further symbolize the moving wheels, incessant motion, and progress that Dharma brings into our lives just like time's endless cycles.
The Ashoka Chakra is embedded in the center of India's national flag. It, therefore, is an ever-reminding factor for the people concerning the ways of justice and righteousness and the ways of spiritual growth, which at the same time, is ever on the journey. It is a sort of eternal wheel of the law guiding the nation, showing that truth and nonviolence will ever hold a prime position in its very existence.
The Ashoka Chakra symbolizes an enriched heritage of India, its rich history, and has become like a lighthouse of hope, peace, and the noble teachings of Buddhism that inspire millions across continents.

For the NUPS (Naruto Uzumaki Protection Squad) AU I like to think that it’s either Choji or Shikamaru that find out about Naruto’s massive chakra reserves. I’m more particular to Choji finding out first tho and then bringing it up to Ashoka mainly because I like think that Choji’s clan were allied with Uzumaki’s and while most of the clan doesn’t believe Naruto is truly one Choji still grew up on stories from his Dad and possibly Aunt that Uzumakis have such massive amounts of chakra that control has to start young or from the more chakra intense stages of chakra control. Also would Kakashi or Iruka or maybe Teuchi drop info bout sealing or is that also something Choji brings up and Kakashi/Iruka drop off supplies/scrolls/books about it and occasionally check in on their work? Also I love Naruto being able to recognize who was/is Anbu based off of their chakra and if he’s felt the chakra around him when younger. I also think Genma should drop in on this maybe via extra food or clothing/weapon specifics?
I love the idea of Choji noticing Naruto’s chakra and going to his family. I love the thought of them being like “well I can’t tell you about this one specific kid for Reasons™️ but I did once know someone who had the same name (unrelated I swear)” and giving him the “Caring for an Uzumaki 101” talk passed down through the generations that had be learned through trial, error and a great many explosions. I love the idea of quiet rebellion against a cruel system that allowed a little boy to be forgotten and abused and compliance only as far as what the written word implies and not a single bit more.
Naruto recognizing Kakashi as safe even if he doesn’t fully remember why. Doesn’t remember that he’s always slept better during thunderstorms because they felt like coming home. Doesn’t remember that the howling of wolves was once a lullaby. Doesn’t remember, it trusts all the same. (Then he sees an ANBU walk by that feels incredibly familiar and gets it.)
Genma would love this pack of demons. He could do without them calling him “Oral Fixation-san” but the little shits are hilarious. He comes bearing gifts and really if he befriends the little Nara heir it’s not his fault that the kid is attached at the hip with the very little boy he’s supposed to ignore. It would be rude not to include all of the kids friends after all.

Hey sorry pretty random question.
You must have seen some Indians try to make efforts in forming solidarity with Roma in Europe. I remember reblogging one such post from you and being really happy about it. But I read more about it recently. And it seems to be meddled with nationalist politics-
https://thewire.in/diplomacy/the-modi-government-and-rss-are-keen-to-claim-the-roma-as-indians-and-hindus
I also feel that saying Romani people are actually just Indian diaspora (even though the economic gap is huge between NRIs and Roma in Europe and therefore will not prove useful to lump you in with them) on "foreign lands" gives Europeans more leverage to add xenophobic styled framework to their anti Roma racism. But obviously this is more of your concern than ours and you probably have read more. So what are your opinions?
Hi!
Yup, I partially agree with you. I don't know much about Indian politics but a lot of the times I've looked into it I've been left with a feeling that this might be a nationalistic move.
I am saying 'partially' because I do think that a lot of Indian-Romani relations are genuinely formed out of solidarity. For example, the Romani flag looks like this:
Tumblr media
It was adopted at the first Romani World Congress, in 1971; the red wheel is explicitly based on the Ashoka Chakra.
There are Indian scholars that specialized in Romani studies during the 20th century: Weer Rajendra Rishi and Janardhan Singh Pathania, whose learning book on Romani language starts with this:
Tumblr media
His book features letters he exchanged with Romani people for the making of his book. On the other hand, it is in my experience very common for Romani people to be interested in India, Indian history and Indian cultures, we are way more open to it than other Europeans. I've also seen a few of the most well-off Romani associations organizing trips to India. All of these are examples of true solidarity to me.
However when it comes to how it's handled in politics I am a bit on edge. I had come across a similar article to the one you sent me, also saying that Modi's External Affairs Minister wants to recognize Roma as part of the Indian diaspora. And because I am not so well-versed in Indian politics I didn't really know what conclusions to draw from this. I remember wondering if those Indian politicians wanted to keep Roma on the side just in case the way Roma are treated becomes relevant in discussions between Indian and European countries, but nothing like this has happened yet. The article you sent me goes into more details though and I can clearly see the nationalist edge in it.
What I've noticed is that some of the Roma who get deep into the Romani-Indian connection can get a little too much intense about it (because we don't have a flag emoji, a lot of Roma use the Indian flag emoji to talk about Romani issues; some Roma will wear Indian clothing or jewellery; some Roma will even call themselves Indian), granted it's not criminal to do any of this, but sometimes it seems like they are getting rid of their identity as Roma to present themselves as Indian and that's weird. Some Roma have also converted to Hinduism to reconnect with India (which is stupid because not all Indians are Hindu) and some also give their opinion on Indian politics, which feels weird. I also heard some Roma saying they hoped we could get Indian citizenship or something lol. I think Indian politicians could realistically get some Roma behind Indian nationalist politics.
As for how it plays into European anti-Roma racism, I have heard of far-right protests in Czech Republic and in Hungary saying we should be deported to India. Some Neo-Nazis support that idea, like this far-right Czech guy:
But I think it's still a fringe idea among the European far-right, most of them don't have one coherent goal on how to treat Roma, a lot will just say we should 'leave the country' (without specifying where should we go) or we should just be shot. I don't think saying Roma are part of the Indian diaspora will give more leverage to European xenophobia because European xenophobia against Roma is already very high; if anything it will transform the way it's expressed but it will not worsen it nor will it alleviate it.
I had talked a bit about some of these issues here!

Tiranga: A Symbol of Purity, Bravery, and Triumph
As children, we all remember the pride we felt when the national flag of India was hoisted during our school’s Independence Day celebrations. The saffron, white, green, and the Ashoka Chakra at the center were symbols of a nation that fought for its freedom, identity, and future.
Each fold of the Tiranga tells a story—a history filled with dreams, struggles, sacrifices, and victories. It represents something greater than ourselves. This deep connection to the flag is not just a feeling but a shared experience that binds us to the essence of our country’s journey.
In the same way, Luv My India’s Pure Khadi Table Flags are not mere decorative pieces—they are a tribute to the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed everything for India’s independence. Holding the Tiranga in your hands evokes a sense of reverence for our leaders, their vision, and their dreams for a free India.
Luv My India’s Cross Flags carry a legacy that speaks to the strength and unity of India. These flags stand as a symbol of pride and resilience, representing the core values that define our nation.
As Subhas Chandra Bose famously said, “We are Indians, firstly and lastly.” This timeless statement echoes through generations. The moment you see an LMI flag, you become a part of that legacy, as it commands respect and reverence.
LMI’s larger flags embody the weight of history and the grandeur of our dreams. These flags are for those who believe in the lofty ideals of a nation destined for greatness. They symbolize India’s ambitions on the global stage and the bright future we envision—one of prosperity, unity, and strength.
These flags are not just for special occasions. They are meant to be part of our everyday lives—whether displayed at home, in the office, or during gatherings. At Luv My India, we recognize the power of these symbols. Our flags are a direct link to our heritage and the heart of India’s independence movement. When you purchase a flag, you are becoming part of a continuing story—a story of progress, unity, and pride.
By displaying LMI flags in our homes, offices, and public spaces, we keep the spirit of independence alive. These flags represent much more than fabric; they are a celebration of everything that makes India unique and great. As we stand together under the Tiranga, we honor our past and look forward to a future filled with promise.
Every time you see a Pure Khadi Table Flag or a Cross Flag waving proudly, you are reminded of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters. Their dreams are the foundation of the life we live today.
The national flag of India is a promise—a promise that India will always rise. Luv My India’s flags are a tribute to that promise, reminding us of the enduring spirit of our nation. Let us cherish this symbol, for as long as the Tiranga flies, the spirit of India will continue to soar high.

How to Properly Wear an Indian Flag Lapel Pin: Style & Etiquette Guide
Tumblr media
The Indian flag lapel pin is more than just a decorative accessory—it is a powerful emblem of national pride, unity, and respect. Whether you wear it on Republic Day, Independence Day, or a formal corporate event, placing it correctly and styling it well ensures that you showcase both patriotism and sophistication.
However, many people unknowingly wear the Indian tricolor badge incorrectly, diminishing its significance. Should you pin it on the left or right? Can you pair it with formal or casual outfits? What are the dos and don’ts of wearing an Indian flag lapel pin?
This detailed style and etiquette guide will help you wear your flag pin with confidence, ensuring you do justice to its national significance.
The Deep Symbolism Behind the Indian Flag Lapel Pin
Before we get into how to wear it, let’s first appreciate why wearing an Indian flag badge matters.
The Indian national flag, fondly known as the Tiranga (Tricolor), represents the core values of our nation:
Saffron – Courage, sacrifice, and selflessness ⚪ White – Truth, peace, and harmony 🟩 Green – Growth, prosperity, and faith 🔵 Ashoka Chakra (24-spoke wheel) – Progress, justice, and righteousness
Wearing a lapel pin featuring the Indian flag is a gesture of Deshprem (love for the nation), reflecting your respect for India's history, freedom struggle, and democratic ideals.
But just like the national flag, there are rules and etiquette that must be followed to honor its significance.
The Correct Way to Wear an Indian Flag Lapel Pin
One of the most common mistakes people make is placing the pin incorrectly. To wear your Indian flag lapel pin with dignity, follow these essential guidelines:
✔️ Left Side Rule: Place It Close to Your Heart
The left side of your chest is the correct place for the Indian tricolor badge. Why? Because it sits closest to your heart, symbolizing deep respect and patriotism.
🔹 If wearing a suit or blazer, pin it on the left lapel, just above the pocket. 🔹 If wearing a shirt, attach it to the left chest area. 🔹 For traditional attire (kurta, sherwani, Nehru jacket), it should be pinned neatly on the left side.
✔️ Keep It Upright and Straight
The Ashoka Chakra in the middle should be clearly visible and positioned upright. A tilted or upside-down flag pin is considered disrespectful.
✔️ Avoid Placing It on Collars, Ties, or Right Side
Wearing the pin on your right lapel, collar, tie, or hat is incorrect. The pin represents the dignity of the national flag, so it should be worn on formal wear accessories properly.
How to Style Your Indian Flag Lapel Pin with Different Outfits
Your Indian flag lapel pin isn’t just a patriotic symbol—it’s also a style statement when paired correctly with various outfits. Here’s how you can match it effortlessly with different attire:
Tumblr media
1️⃣ With Business & Corporate Attire (Suits & Blazers)
🔹 Wear the Indian tricolor badge on the left lapel of your blazer or suit. 🔹 Pair it with formal wear accessories like a tie, pocket square, or cufflinks. 🔹 Stick to a minimalist look—let the pin stand out without extra distractions.
2️⃣ With Traditional Indian Attire (Kurta, Sherwani, Nehru Jacket)
🔹 Pin the badge on the left chest area of your Nehru jacket, sherwani, or kurta. 🔹 If wearing a saree, place it neatly on the pallu or blouse to maintain elegance. 🔹 Opt for a subtle, metallic-finished lapel pin for a regal look.
3️⃣ With Casual Wear (Shirts, Jackets, Polo Tees)
🔹 You can still wear an Indian flag badge with casual outfits, but keep it understated. 🔹 It works well on denim jackets, lightweight blazers, and polo shirts. 🔹 Avoid oversized or flashy pins—small, elegant designs look more refined.
Common Mistakes to Avoid While Wearing an Indian Flag Lapel Pin
🚫 Placing it on the right side – Always wear it on the left side, near your heart. 🚫 Tilting the pin – Keep it upright, ensuring the Ashoka Chakra is straight. 🚫 Using a damaged or faded pin – Keep it clean, polished, and in good condition. 🚫 Pairing it with too many accessories – Let your lapel pin be the highlight of your outfit. 🚫 Wearing it on a collar or pocket – Lapel pins should never be placed on pockets or collars.
When & Where Should You Wear an Indian Flag Lapel Pin?
Although commonly worn on Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15), and Gandhi Jayanti (October 2), your patriotism isn’t limited to just three days a year.
Here are some occasions where you can proudly wear your Indian tricolor badge:
✅ Corporate & Business Events – Show national pride in a professional setting. ✅ International Conferences & Diplomatic Meetings – Represent India with pride. ✅ Weddings & Cultural Functions – A stylish yet meaningful accessory. ✅ Political Gatherings & Social Causes – Show support for the country’s progress. ✅ Daily Wear (for true patriots!) – If you feel the love for India, wear it anytime!
How to Maintain & Store Your Indian Flag Lapel Pin
A high-quality Indian flag lapel pin can last for years if maintained properly. Here are some quick tips:
✔️ Keep it clean – Wipe your pin with a soft cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. ✔️ Store it safely – Use a small box or fabric pouch to avoid scratches. ✔️ Avoid exposure to moisture – Prolonged contact with water can cause rust or discoloration. ✔️ Choose durable materials – Opt for metallic or enamel-coated pins that retain their shine.
Final Thoughts: Wear Your Indian Flag Lapel Pin with Pride & Elegance
A small Indian flag lapel pin holds a big meaning. Whether you're a business professional, student, politician, or an everyday patriot, wearing it correctly reflects your respect for India’s heritage, freedom, and unity.
So the next time you pin the Indian tricolor badge on your outfit, wear it with pride, honor, and a touch of elegance!

The Tiranga Big Small Trick: A Creative Way to Represent India's National Flag
India's national flag, known as the Tiranga, is a symbol of pride, unity, and the country's rich history. It consists of three horizontal stripes of saffron, white, and green, with a navy-blue Ashoka Chakra in the center. The Tiranga is an emblem that evokes deep feelings of patriotism and respect.
In this article, we'll explore the "Tiranga Big Small Trick" – a creative and educational method to engage with the flag’s significance, whether it's for a school project, a community event, or simply as a way to understand its components in a fun and interactive manner.
What is the Tiranga Big Small Trick?
The Tiranga Big Small Trick is a visual activity that involves using variations of the flag's components (specifically the three colors and the Ashoka Chakra) in different sizes to help individuals, especially children, recognize and learn about the flag in a more engaging manner.
Big and Small Stripes: By displaying the three horizontal stripes of the flag in varying widths, the trick emphasizes the importance of balance and proportionality in the design of the national flag. The saffron stripe at the top represents courage and sacrifice, the white middle stripe signifies truth and peace, and the green stripe symbolizes faith, fertility, and the land. Adjusting the size of these stripes can reinforce the idea that each color has its own significance, despite them all being part of a united whole.
Big and Small Ashoka Chakra: Another variation of the trick involves the Ashoka Chakra, the 24-spoke wheel that is placed in the center of the white stripe. This trick uses varying sizes of the Chakra to represent the unity and diversity of India. A larger Chakra could symbolize the strength of unity, while a smaller Chakra may represent the importance of individual contributions. This helps students understand that both the Tiranga and the Ashoka Chakra have significant symbolic meanings that go beyond just the visual.
How Does the Tiranga Big Small Trick Work?
Visual Representation: Set up two versions of the flag – one with the stripes and Ashoka Chakra in a standard proportion and another where the stripes and Chakra vary in size. Place the two side by side. This will visually illustrate how slight changes in size affect the overall balance and symbolism of the flag.
Interactive Learning: Engage with the audience, especially young learners, by asking questions about the flag's design and what each element represents. Use the "big small" variations to spark discussions about the importance of the flag’s proportions.
Artistic Interpretation: Encourage students or participants to create their own versions of the Tiranga, using different sizes for the components. This can be an excellent way for them to express their understanding of the flag while reinforcing its symbolic meanings.
Activity: Use cut-outs of the Tiranga’s elements in big and small sizes and have participants arrange them according to their understanding of the flag’s design. Through trial and error, they’ll discover how the flag looks best when the proportions are accurate and balanced.
Why Use the Tiranga Big Small Trick?
The Tiranga Big Small Trick isn’t just a fun activity; it’s also a tool for educational engagement. By playing with the flag’s components, learners can:
Deepen their understanding of the flag’s symbolism.
Promote creativity in interpreting national symbols.
Improve visual literacy, helping individuals understand the importance of balance and proportion in design.
Instill patriotism by actively engaging with the flag’s elements.
Conclusion
The Tiranga Big Small Trick is a wonderful, hands-on way to teach about India’s national flag while also making learning interactive and fun. Through this simple yet effective approach, learners of all ages can appreciate the rich symbolism of the Tiranga and understand the deeper meaning behind its components. Whether for a classroom activity, an art project, or simply as a creative exercise, the Tiranga Big Small Trick is a fantastic way to explore India's pride and heritage.
Let’s embrace the diversity and unity that the Tiranga represents, using innovative ways to learn and celebrate our national flag!
