They didn’t even cancel the Clemson football game. (Which also meant they had to dedicate essential personnel to man the game, when they REALLY ARE NEEDED IN THE RESCUE ABD RELIEF EFFORTS)
Entire towns that have been there for centuries are piles of mud and rubble and people who are already out of food and water because they were dealing with record flooding from another storm a day before the hurricane rolled in. FEMA is having to airdrop in supplies. The roads will take *years* to repair. I don’t even know what they’re going to do for Asheville with all the roads washed off the sides of the mountains and rivers in so many places, I think rebuilding won’t be viable until the roads are fixed.
And the news doesn’t care because they can’t throw it around to get headlines. Just because they don’t have anything flashy that they have the media rights to share yet, so they just aren’t reporting on it beyond mentioning it in the list of places affected before going into Florida’s details again. Raleigh’s local stations are the only ones I’ve seen broadcasting about it, and they’re doing it around the clock! So the other major news outlets could pick up the story and spread the word. They’re just saving it for the next news cycle. Commercialized journalism for profit is beyond frustrating in times like these.
The hurricane has wiped entire towns off the map. Places I’ve lived in have no roads in or out— the entire city of Asheville is only accessible by air. Even the interstates flooded. I’m waiting to hear back from so so many friends who live in this part of the state but most of the cell towers are down.
The thing that really turns my stomach is that there’s so so little news coverage of it. I’ve seen more articles about empty condos and beach houses in Florida than I’ve seen about ENTIRE TOWNS BEING WIPED OFF THE MAP in western North Carolina.
The way Appalachia is overlooked time and time again has probably led to some of the loss of life in the region because the news just… didn’t really talk about the danger of flooding that far inland.

The term “climate haven” never made much sense. After Hurricane Helene dumped 2 feet of rain on western North Carolina, many major media outlets marveled at how Asheville, which had been celebrated as a climate haven, had been devastated by a climate-related disaster.
Some in the media later reported accurately that climate havens don’t actually exist. But that still raises the question: Where did this climate haven concept even come from?
Well before humans began putting billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, entire populations would migrate toward better conditions in search of a place with milder weather or more fertile soil or the absence of drought.
Because of its speed and scale, however, human-caused climate change is especially extreme, and everywhere will be impacted by some degree of risk. There is no completely safe haven.
Which is part of how we ended up talking about the idea of climate havens. It’s wishful thinking. At least that’s what several experts told me after Helene laid a path of destruction across the Southeast and as Hurricane Milton barreled toward Florida. As the impacts of climate change became more real and apparent, the media as well as local leaders started looking for a better story to tell.
“People are desperate for optimism,” said Jesse Keenan, director of the Center on Climate Change and Urbanism at Tulane University, who described the concept of climate havens as a fiction. “It gives people hope.”
Keenan actually blames himself for helping to popularize the term. For a concept that feels so widespread now, it’s surprisingly hard to find much mention of climate havens in the media before 2018. That was when The Guardian quoted Keenan in a piece about where you should move to save yourself from climate change that used the phrase “safe havens.” Buffalo, New York, and Duluth, Minnesota, were Keenan’s suggestions.
The concept gained more traction a few months later, when Mayor Byron W. Brown referred to Buffalo as a “climate refuge” in his 2019 state of the city address, followed by outlets like Bloomberg and Quartz referring to Buffalo as a climate haven. The New York Times did a whole spread on “climate-proof Duluth,” a slogan Keenan wrote as part of an economic development package commissioned by the city. He told me it was just a joke that got pulled out of context.
It’s hard to know how responsible one professor with a knack for marketing was for the mainstreaming of the climate haven concept. But it’s easy to see why local governments would latch onto it.
The Census Bureau estimates that as climate change warms the planet over the next several decades, 100 million will migrate into and around the US. Increased flood risk may have already pushed several million people out of coastal and low-lying areas across the US, as wildfires start to raise questions about migration in the West.
Inland cities, namely those along the Rust Belt that have been losing population for years, see an opportunity to pull those people in.
“The idea of a climate refuge itself is kind of an escapist fantasy,” said Billy Fleming, director of the McHarg Center at the University of Pennsylvania. “To the extent that a climate refuge even exists, it’s not a particularly physical or geophysical phenomenon. It’s social and economic.”
Fleming added that, for these would-be climate havens, attracting new residents is a means to pull in more tax revenue and create wealth for the community. “It’s about keeping the real estate machine churning,” he added, “which is the thing that pays for everything else in the city.”
The real estate industry has taken notice. Quite coincidentally, as Hurricane Helene was bearing down on the Southeast last week, Zillow announced a new feature that displays climate risk scores on listing pages alongside interactive maps and insurance requirements. Now, you can look up an address and see, on a scale of 1 to 10, the risk of flooding, extreme temperatures, and wildfires for that property, based on data provided by the climate risk modeling firm First Street. Redfin, a Zillow competitor, launched its own climate risk index using First Street data earlier this year.
The new climate risk scores on Zillow and Redfin can’t tell you with any certainty whether you’ll be affected by a natural disaster if you move into any given house. But this is a tool that can help guide decisions about how you might want to insure your property and think about its long-term value.
It’s almost fitting that Zillow and Redfin, platforms designed to help people find the perfect home, are doing the work to show that climate risk is not binary. There are no homes completely free of risk for the same reasons that there’s no such thing as a perfect climate haven.
Climate risk is a complicated equation that complicates the already difficult and complex calculus of buying a home. Better access to data about risk can help, and a bit more transparency about the insurance aspect of homeownership is especially useful, as the industry struggles to adapt to our warming world and the disasters that come with it.
“As we start to see insurance costs increase, all that starts to impact that affordability question,” Skylar Olsen, Zillow’s chief economist, told me. “It’ll help the housing market move towards a much healthier place, where buyers and sellers understand these risks and then have options to meet them.”
That said, knowledge of risk isn’t keeping people from moving to disaster-prone parts of the country right now. People move to new parts of the country for countless different reasons, including the area’s natural beauty, job prospects, and affordable housing. Those are a few of the reasons why high-risk counties across the country are growing faster than low-risk counties, even in the face of future climate catastrophes, which are both unpredictable and inevitable. It’s almost unfathomable to know how to prepare ourselves properly for the worst-case scenario.
“The scale of these events that we’re seeing are so beyond what humans have ever seen,” said Vivek Shandas, an urban planning professor at Portland State University. “No matter what we think might be a manageable level of preparedness and infrastructure, we’re still going to see cracks, and we’re still going to see breakages.”
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t build sea walls or find new ways to fight wildfires. In a sense, we have the opportunity to create our own climate havens by making cities more resilient to the risks they face. We can be optimistic about that future.

Republicans say, “It’s the economy, stupid” . . . unless the economy is strong, then it’s “Look, there goes Elvis!”
August 15, 2024
Robert B. Hubbell
I hurt my jaw on Wednesday. I was listening to MSNBC report on the drop in inflation below 3% when the news anchor asked an “expert” how the positive economic news would affect the election. With no sense of irony or memory, the “expert” said, “Well, of course, the election won’t be decided on the economy.”
My jaw hit the floor so quickly that I nearly chipped a tooth. Remember that time—for the last year-and-half—when political pundits told us that voters cared about inflation more than democracy itself?
Now that inflation is at the lowest level in the last three years, pundits are telling us that the economy doesn’t matter—or that the good news about inflation is actually bad news for Kamala Harris. See, e.g., Politico, Inflation is easing. Now, Harris has an even bigger problem with the economy. (Per Politico, the economy faces a possible recession—which is what economists have been predicting for the last year-and-half.)
To President Biden’s credit, he called out the media’s insistence on spinning all economic news as unfavorable. At an event at the White House, a reporter shouted a question, “Did the US beat inflation, Mr. President.” Biden responded,
Yes, yes, yes. I told you we were going to have a soft landing [and]we’re going to have a soft landing. My policies are working. Start writing it that way.” See President Biden on Easing Inflation: "My Policies Are Working" | C-SPAN.org.
But the press has no interest in reporting on a positive economic story. Kamala Harris announced that she would give a speech on Friday outlining her economic policies. The New York Times didn’t wait for the speech to give it a negative review, posting the headline Harris Is Set to Lay Out an Economic Message Light on Detail.
Per the Times,
In her speech, according to those familiar with her plans, Ms. Harris will call for expanding the child tax credit, along with higher taxes on corporations and high earners, in line with Mr. Biden’s budget proposals in office. She will also push for more affordable housing, among other measures. In her campaign, Ms. Harris has already called for raising the minimum wage and providing paid leave for workers. She has defended the independence of the Federal Reserve.
Other outlets reported that Kamala Harris will also introduce “anti-price gouging” legislation to prevent corporations from using inflation as an excuse to raise grocery prices faster than justified by cost increases. See The Guardian, Kamala Harris economic plan to focus on groceries, housing and healthcare
Hmm. Sounds specific to me. Perhaps if the Times had waited for the speech before declaring it was “light on details,” it would have had a firmer basis for its critique.
By comparison, when Trump gave a rambling speech on Wednesday that was billed as setting forth his “vision for the economy,” he descended into name-calling, conspiracy-mongering, and crowd-sizing. The Times’ headline was Trump Lobs Personal Attacks Against Harris in Economy-Focused Speech.
The Times summarized Trump's economic plans as follows:
During his speech, Mr. Trump vowed that he would end “costly, job-killing” regulations in order to bring prices down, though he did not specify which regulations. He promised to address housing costs by opening large tracts of federal land for development, imposing tariffs of up to 20 percent on America’s trading partners and expanding signature tax cuts he pushed while in the White House. He also said that his chief tool to fight rising prices would be boosting oil and gas production, even as the U.S. is currently producing significantly more crude oil today than it did under the Trump administration.
So, Trump's “economic” policy is (1) “Drill baby, drill,” (2) cut taxes for the wealthy, (3) reduce federal regulation, and (4) allow private developers to use federal land to build homes. Now that sounds “light on details,” no?
Ah, well! We aren’t going to fix the broken press before November. But the general acknowledgment that the media is broken is widespread and accepted as truth. See Jonathan Chait in NYMagazine, The Media’s Double Standard Favors Trump, Not Harris.
Per Chait,
If Harris avoids any substantive commitments by September and the media aren’t making a big issue out of it, I’d be surprised. Meanwhile, Donald Trump very much is skating by without serious policy commitments. He floated the idea of repealing Obamacare, then backed away, and is continuing to vaguely promise to make health care better for everybody without anybody paying for it. He has made positive noises about cutting retirement programs without specifying how. He is secretly promising huge tax cuts to wealthy donors, while saying he would “be okay” with setting the corporate tax rate just one point lower. The media are reporting on some of these questions . . . but most of Trump’s issue evasions have disappeared from the news, and the press has had almost no ability to force him to take a stand on any issue he prefers not to talk about. Harris, at least, is supposed to be working on an agenda. Trump won’t get more specific until he wins.
So, as the media whines about Kamala Harris's lack of a full-blown policy portfolio three weeks after entering the presidential race, it has failed to hold Trump to specifics on his grandiose, illusory promises.
One final note: Trump is touting “No taxes on Social Security.” Without regard to the merits of that proposal, Democrats introduced a bill in 2022 to eliminate taxes on Social Security. See Pensions & Investments, (1/31/2024), Bill reintroduced to eliminate federal taxes on Social Security benefits, extend solvency. (“Originally introduced in August 2022, the bill would repeal the taxation of Social Security benefits starting in 2025.”)

FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: We Are Mary Shelley’s Monster by Danielle Byington
ADVANCE ORDER: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/we-are-mary-shelleys-monster-by-danielle-byington/
We Are Mary Shelley’s Monster tunes in to #history and the present through poetry from the author’s perspective, as well as how and where those moments exist collectively for the rest of the world. Frequently, #mythology ushers the reader through this chapbook, either in the context of ancient gods and goddesses or modern figures and celebrities. This crafting of the past within the present through familiar names and events intends to highlight the damage done, but also remind us of how we might heal on humanity’s circular path.
Danielle Byington is an educator, author, and artist. Her poetry has been published by various outlets, and her first chapbook is The Absurdity of Origins (Dancing Girl Press, 2019). Byington’s visual art—a significant backdrop to her poetry—has been part of exhibits, public art installations, permanent collections, journals, and cover art. Her ardor for the intersection of language and visual arts manifested in 2020, as she created the educational business Sight into Insight, an ambition which has received a number of grants for research, creating literature-based videos, and a series of paintings. Byington enjoys life with her Shakespearean better half and three ridiculous cats.
PRAISE FOR We Are Mary Shelley’s Monster by Danielle Byington
Danielle Byington’s We Are Mary Shelley’s Monster troubles the divide between the ordinary and the sublime. These poems teeter on the edges of beauty and of horror, wrestling with preternatural muses/demons such as the bronze coil of a dead cottonmouth, “dreaming bad dreams with me / about humanity’s white mouth,” and the haunting image of Sylvia Plath’s strappy high heel shoes. Painterly and literary, Byington’s poems offer “the past stitched to the present” in a remarkable tapestry. Her poems detail “our connection to the red line of history, / and other time-sensitive things like newspapers and flowers.” These poems warn that our breath is dangerous, a possible poison contributing to the deterioration of artifacts and knowledge. Even so, We Are Mary Shelley’s Monster sings with marvel and hope in the face of ongoing threats and decay just “as autumn / referees all things to rust.”
–Emily Rosko, Poetry Editor at Crazyhorse/swamp pink
We Are Mary Shelley’s Monster is a book of brilliant ghosts, of headless snakes, of the moon falling from the sky, of Anna Nicole Smith’s beauty mark, Sharon Tate’s remarkable hair, and Sylvia Plath’s final pair of shoes. Readers encounter the water-bound spirit of Virginia Woolf and chase the troubled genius that haunts the legacy of Zelda Fitzgerald, where even the rain that falls in Asheville is “trying to tap her awake/…easing us all toward paradise.” As a multi-disciplinary artist and a comprehensive scholar of literature, Danielle Byington invites us into the serious collaboration that happens between viewers and texts and reminds us that the world is a text we are reading, from the insurrectionist absurdity of “masculine livestock on the Capitol stairs” all the way back to the light emanating from Plato’s cave. The range of reference and the depth of perception are dazzling in her unforgettable book. Byington creates poems that illuminate our interactions with art and culture, and that prompt us to consider how deeply our lives are made and remade by the works of art we engage.
–Jesse Graves, author of Merciful Days and Said-Songs: Essays on Poetry and Place
Danielle Byington’s We Are Mary Shelley’s Monster paints a portrait of Zelda Fitzgerald poured into air and of a snake’s white skull, of Anna Nicole Smith riding the bareback of methadone and of a rabid dog’s bottomless barks. With these startling poems, Byington gives us beautiful women who have bookended what men have barely started. This is a book full of moments that give us new names for both history and ourselves.
–Karen Salyer McElmurray, author of Wanting Radiance and Surrendered Child: A Birth Mother’s Journey

People moved to Asheville to avoid extreme weather, overlooking its tragic past.
Asheville was promoted as a climate refuge, a place to escape the worst impacts of extreme weather. But the deadly destruction caused by Hurricane Helene shows that this North Carolina city, like any other in America, was never truly safe — it’s just that memories are short, and the scale of the climate crisis is often underestimated.
"If you live in a place that can rain, you live in a place that can flood," said Kathie Dello, North Carolina's state climatologist. This reality became starkly clear in the past week.
After making landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane on Thursday, Hurricane Helene tore through six states, leaving widespread devastation and over 160 fatalities in its wake.
On Friday, the storm battered western North Carolina as a tropical storm. In Buncombe County, where Asheville serves as the county seat, over 50 people have died, with many more still missing.
Asheville, a city of around 95,000, has been left in ruins. Highways are torn apart, and power lines lie tangled like spaghetti. Residents are struggling to access basic necessities like food, water, and electricity.
Survivors have compared the aftermath of Helene to a "war zone," while officials are calling it "post-apocalyptic."

The devastation stands in stark contrast to the image some media outlets, real estate agents, and residents once painted of Asheville—a city, located hundreds of miles from the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, thought to be relatively safe from the climate extremes plaguing other parts of the U.S.
Jesse Keenan, associate professor of sustainable real estate and urban planning at Tulane University, noted that "climate migrants" have been arriving in Asheville for years, coming from places like California, Arizona, and the coastal Carolinas.
Asheville frequently appears in online discussions as a refuge from heat, floods, and wildfires. In one 2019 post, a user wrote they were planning to move to Asheville because they wanted to avoid areas where “natural disasters could destroy our property.”
Even some climate experts living in Asheville believed they were shielded from the worst risks. Susan Hassol, a longtime climate change communicator, admitted that she and others “labored under the illusion that we live in a relatively climate-safe place.”
However, in a world reshaped by human-caused global warming, no place is truly safe. Hurricane Helene, said state climatologist Kathie Dello, bore “the fingerprints of climate change.”
The hurricane intensified as it passed over the exceptionally warm waters of the Gulf, which fueled its growth. Additionally, a warmer atmosphere holds more moisture, leading to heavier rainfall.
A rapid climate analysis released Tuesday by scientists at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory revealed that fossil fuel pollution caused over 50% more rainfall in parts of Georgia and the Carolinas, and global warming made the extreme rainfall in these regions 20 times more likely.
In many ways, this picturesque region of western North Carolina was already primed for disaster.
youtube
Buncombe County’s bowl-like topography allows heavy rain to funnel quickly into low-lying areas, making neighborhoods highly susceptible to flooding. “It’s a mountainous area with steep hill slopes, so it doesn’t take much rain to trigger a landslide,” said Kathie Dello.
Asheville, situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains at the convergence of the French Broad and Swannanoa rivers, has long been vulnerable to floods, as history has shown.
In 1916, two consecutive hurricanes unleashed relentless rain on Asheville and surrounding areas, causing catastrophic flooding that swept away homes and claimed around 80 lives.
A nearly identical event occurred in 2004, when tropical storms Ivan and Frances followed similar paths along the Appalachians, bringing torrential rain to western North Carolina and killing 11 people.
More recently, Tropical Storm Fred brought devastating floods to the region in 2021, leading to a major disaster declaration.
Asheville has long been vulnerable to heavy rainfall, but the severity of Hurricane Helene "seemingly caught people off guard," said Ed Kearns, chief data officer at First Street Foundation, a non-profit specializing in weather risk research.
Weather Forecast For 89147 - Las Vegas NV:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/203348551/Weather-Forecast-For-89147
Kearns explained this reaction stems from relying on past experiences that no longer apply in a rapidly changing climate. “Risks are increasing faster than humans can perceive,” Kearns told CNN.
A recent First Street report revealed that areas of North Carolina devastated by Helene could now face what was once a 100-year flood every 11 to 25 years.
As floodwaters recede, Asheville faces the daunting task of rebuilding. “I can’t even think about a time frame for how long it’s going to take to recover,” Asheville Mayor Esther Manheimer said Monday.
Although Helene shattered the notion of Asheville as a "climate-safe" city, Tulane University’s Jesse Keenan doesn’t think it will curb people's desire to relocate there. “I believe this will actually accelerate the process,” he said.
Ironically, disasters like hurricanes often "clean the slate" for outside developers and investors to buy properties at lower prices, redeveloping them into denser, more expensive housing, Keenan noted.
“People tend to have short memories about these things. There are always those willing to take the risk,” he added. “This is the story of post-disaster development in America.”

Adding to the challenge is the growing sense that there’s nowhere truly safe to go. “Canada has fires, Vermont floods, West Virginia suffers drought, and Phoenix faces extreme heat,” Dello pointed out.

Top Family-Friendly Vacation Rentals for Stress-Free Trips
Tumblr media
Introduction
Planning a family vacation can be both exhilarating and challenging. The quest to find accommodations that cater to the diverse needs of family members often adds to the stress of organizing a trip. However, choosing the right vacation rental company in USA can transform your vacation into a seamless and enjoyable experience. In this comprehensive guide, we delve into how to select the best family-friendly vacation rentals, highlighting the exceptional services of LLIVO — a leading vacation rental agency in the USA known for its commitment to family-oriented travel. We'll explore the benefits of vacation rentals for families, the unique features that set LLIVO apart, and provide practical tips to ensure your next family vacation is stress-free and unforgettable.
Essential Amenities for Family-Friendly Vacation Rentals
Family-friendly vacation rentals should offer amenities that prioritize safety, comfort, and convenience. Key features include childproofing measures like safety gates and outlet covers, as well as essentials such as fully equipped kitchens and laundry facilities. Entertainment options like Wi-Fi, streaming services, or toys can help keep children engaged, while outdoor spaces such as backyards or pools provide opportunities for play and relaxation. Rentals equipped with baby gear like cribs and high chairs can further simplify travel for families with young children. Additionally, many vacation rentals in the USA offer airport pickup services, enhancing the overall convenience for traveling families.
Best Vacation Rental Destinations for Families
Choosing the right destination is vital for a memorable family vacation, and some locations stand out for their family-friendly appeal. Orlando, Florida, offers proximity to world-famous theme parks, while San Diego combines beaches with top-tier zoos and museums. Asheville’s scenic beauty is perfect for outdoor-loving families, and Maui’s tropical charm suits those seeking beachfront relaxation. For a nature-focused getaway, Yellowstone National Park provides access to wildlife and stunning landscapes, making it an unforgettable experience for all ages. Whether you're seeking unique stays combining lodging and transport or eco-friendly accommodations with sustainable travel options, the USA has plenty to offer.
Why Choose Family-Friendly Vacation Rentals
The Advantages of Vacation Rentals for Families
Vacation rentals offer a unique alternative to traditional hotel stays, providing a homely environment that can significantly enhance your family's travel experience. Unlike cramped hotel rooms, vacation rentals offer ample space, allowing everyone to enjoy their own privacy while still sharing common areas for family bonding.
One of the primary benefits is the availability of full kitchens, enabling families to prepare meals together. This not only saves money on dining out but also caters to dietary restrictions and picky eaters. Additionally, having separate bedrooms and living spaces means parents can enjoy some quiet time after the children have gone to bed.
Furthermore, vacation rentals often come equipped with amenities tailored for families, such as laundry facilities, entertainment systems, and outdoor spaces like backyards or pools. Some family-friendly accommodations in the USA also provide airport shuttle services, making it easier to transition from travel to relaxation.
Creating Lasting Family Memories
Staying in a family-friendly vacation rental facilitates experiences that go beyond sightseeing. It allows families to immerse themselves in the local culture, fostering a sense of adventure and discovery. Cooking local recipes in your rental's kitchen, engaging with neighbors, or participating in community events can enrich your family's understanding of the destination.
Moreover, the flexibility offered by vacation rentals means you can set your own schedule. There's no need to rush for breakfast buffets or adhere to hotel meal times. This autonomy reduces stress and allows for a more leisurely pace, enabling your family to explore attractions at your own rhythm and focus on what truly matters — spending quality time together.

How to Use Reviews and Ratings to Find the Best Rentals
Understanding LLIVO's Review System
LLIVO's robust review system is an invaluable tool for families seeking the perfect vacation rental. Each review is written by verified guests who have stayed at the property, ensuring authenticity and reliability. The reviews cover various aspects of the rental experience, including cleanliness, location, amenities, and the host's responsiveness.
When browsing through listings, pay attention to properties with consistently high ratings and positive feedback from families. Look for comments that mention family-friendly features, such as spacious rooms, safe play areas, and proximity to attractions suitable for children.
LLIVO also allows hosts to respond to reviews, providing additional context and demonstrating their commitment to guest satisfaction. Hosts who engage positively with feedback are often proactive in addressing any concerns and enhancing the guest experience.
Identifying Family-Friendly Features Through Reviews
Reviews can offer insights that go beyond the property's description. Families often share their experiences in detail, highlighting features that were particularly beneficial or any challenges they faced.
For instance, look for mentions of:
Child Safety Measures: Guests may note the presence of safety gates, secure balconies, or fenced pools.
Amenities for Children: Positive comments about available toys, games, or entertainment systems indicate a child-friendly environment.
Host Support: Reviews that praise the host for providing baby equipment or offering local childcare recommendations can be particularly reassuring.
By carefully analyzing reviews, you can identify properties that have delighted other families, increasing the likelihood that the rental will meet your expectations.
Tips for Choosing the Perfect Family Rental
Assessing Your Family's Specific Needs
Every family is unique, and what works for one may not suit another. Start by listing your family's specific requirements to narrow down your options effectively.
Consider the following:
Accommodation Size: Determine the number of bedrooms and bathrooms needed to ensure comfort and privacy for all family members.
Accessibility: If you have young children in strollers or family members with mobility issues, look for properties without stairs or with elevator access.
Essential Amenities: Identify must-have amenities such as a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, high-speed internet, or a backyard.
By clearly defining your needs, you can use LLIVO's search filters to find properties that match your criteria, saving time and effort.
Setting a Realistic Budget
Budgeting is a crucial aspect of planning a family vacation. LLIVO offers a range of affordable rentals in the USA with airport shuttle service that cater to different financial plans without compromising on quality.
When setting your budget:
Compare Prices: Use the platform to compare similar properties in your desired location.
Consider Total Costs: Factor in additional fees such as cleaning charges or service fees.
Look for Deals: Take advantage of last-minute vacation deals or seasonal promotions offered by hosts.
Being financially prepared ensures you can enjoy your vacation without unexpected expenses adding stress.
Communicating Effectively with Hosts
Open communication with potential hosts can provide clarity and peace of mind. Don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or special requests.
Tips for effective communication:
Ask Detailed Questions: Inquire about the availability of baby equipment, the layout of the property, or any house rules that may affect your stay.
Clarify Expectations: Discuss check-in and check-out times, especially if you require flexibility due to travel schedules.
Special Needs: Inform the host of any allergies or medical conditions that may require accommodations.
A responsive and accommodating host is often indicative of a positive rental experience.

Company B
Company B is known for its luxury rentals and premium services. However, their properties tend to be on the higher end of the price spectrum, with fewer options for budget-conscious families.

Before the floods, Asheville was called a ‘climate haven.’ Is anywhere safe?
Read the full story in the Washington Post. Asheville, N.C., seemed like an ideal place to escape the worst effects of global warming. In recent years, media outlets and real estate agents named the city a “climate haven” because of its cooler-than-normal temperatures in the South and a location far inland from the flooding-pummeled coasts. Last year, the Asheville Citizen Times reported on…

(Photo: CNN) A woman named Tricia is trying to find her sister Tamara on Bear Creek Road in Asheville, NC. I know this because I’m listening to WWNC Radio from Asheville. In truth, through the magic of “corporate radio,” the duo I’m listening to are broadcasting from Greenville, SC but transmitting over WWNC and other iHeart Radio outlets. While that’s not my favorite, I think you have to do…

The Ultimate Guide to Affordable Bus, Scenic, and Convenient Travel
Bus travel in the USA is an underrated gem. Whether you're a budget-conscious traveler, someone who enjoys the scenic route, or simply looking for a convenient way to explore the country, buses offer a unique and accessible way to see America. This guide will cover everything you need to know about traveling by bus across the USA, including the best routes, tips for comfort, and why this mode of transportation is gaining popularity.
1. Why Choose Bus Travel?
Affordability: Trailways buses are one of the most cost-effective ways to travel, often costing a fraction of what you’d pay for a flight or train ticket.
Scenic Routes: Unlike air travel, bus routes allow you to see the landscape up close. You can witness the changing terrain, from bustling cities to rural countryside, all from your window seat.
Convenience: With numerous stations across the country, bus travel offers flexibility in scheduling and destinations. You can often find a bus station in towns where airports are absent.
Eco-Friendly: Buses have a smaller carbon footprint compared to planes and cars, making them a greener choice for the environmentally conscious traveler.
2. Top Scenic Bus Routes in the USA
Pacific Coast Highway (Route 1, California): Travel along one of the most famous scenic drives in the world. This route offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, cliffs, and beaches.
The Adirondack Route (New York to Montreal): This route takes you through the stunning landscapes of Upstate New York, offering views of the Hudson River, Lake Champlain, and the Adirondack Mountains.
Route 66 (Chicago to Los Angeles): Travel along the historic Route 66, where you’ll experience classic Americana, small towns, and vintage roadside attractions.
The Great Smoky Mountains (North Carolina to Tennessee): This route offers incredible views of one of America’s most visited national parks, with lush forests and mist-covered peaks.
3. Planning Your Bus Journey
Choosing the Right Bus Company: Research and compare companies like Trailways, Greyhound, Megabus, and regional operators. Consider factors such as comfort, onboard amenities, pricing, and customer reviews.
Booking Tickets: Many bus companies offer online booking, which is often cheaper than purchasing tickets at the station. Look for discounts, promotions, and loyalty programs.
Packing Essentials: Pack light but bring essentials for a comfortable journey—snacks, water, a neck pillow, entertainment (books, movies, music), and a blanket or sweater for temperature changes.
4. Tips for a Comfortable Bus Ride
Choosing Your Seat: Opt for a window seat to enjoy the views and have something to lean against if you plan to sleep. Sitting near the front can offer a smoother ride.
Stretching and Moving: On long rides, take advantage of stops to stretch your legs. Some buses also have room to stand or walk a bit in the aisle.
Entertainment and Connectivity: Many buses offer Wi-Fi and power outlets, so bring devices to keep yourself entertained. Don’t forget headphones!
Staying Safe and Secure: Keep your valuables in a small bag that you can keep with you at all times. Be mindful of your surroundings, especially at night or during stops.
5. Exploring Bus Travel Destinations
Major Cities: Bus travel is ideal for visiting cities like New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Miami. These cities have extensive bus networks that connect to various neighborhoods and nearby attractions.
National Parks: Many bus routes take you close to national parks such as Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, and Yosemite. Consider combining bus travel with short hikes or local tours.
Hidden Gems: Explore less-known destinations like Asheville, NC, Sedona, AZ, and Santa Fe, NM. These places offer unique cultural experiences, outdoor activities, and stunning natural beauty.
6. The Future of Bus Travel in the USA
Technological Advancements: With the rise of electric buses, smart ticketing, and real-time tracking, bus travel is becoming more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Increased Popularity: As people seek more sustainable and budget-friendly travel options, bus travel is expected to grow, with more routes and better services.
Customized Experiences: Some companies are now offering luxury bus services with reclining seats, onboard meals, and even private cabins for an upgraded experience.
Bus travel across the USA is more than just a means to get from point A to point B; it’s an experience in itself. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or someone looking to try something new, the bus offers a way to see the country in all its diversity from the comfort of your seat. So pack your bags, choose your route, and get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey across the United States.

V; Main/Royal - detailed on his About page, and takes place in a high fantasy setting.
V; Modern - takes place in Asheville, NC. Jett is a friendly young man with a rather intimidating outward appearance. He chose to name himself Jett Marwood after filing for emancipation from his abusive mother and absentminded father at sixteen, shedding the name they’d given him and recreating himself according to his own ideals. He has a reputation in town for being an outcast and a rumored “devil worshipper”, but in reality, he’s a kind person who values honor, truth, and justice above all else. The dead are far more honest than the living, and he finds himself chatting with them far more often. When they talk back, he listens, and he learns, using his magic to solve murders and root out corruption far more effectively than the police…or he would, if anyone actually listened to him. When he’s not visiting the local cemetery, he’s practicing the drums, writing in his journals and grimoires, and making tea in his cozy log cabin out in the woods, or he’s working at one of the local cafés. There’s an AU where he becomes a world renowned country singer!
V; Wizard - When Jett Marwood got his Hogwarts letter, he was ecstatic, as was his wizard uncle, despite the man’s rocky relationship with the British government. His muggle mother, on the other hand, wasn’t thrilled with the idea of losing control of him, or of raising a magical son. She tried to keep him from going. Luckily, Uncle Darius managed to get the law involved. He gained custody of Jett just in time to prepare for Jett’s first year, secretly obliviating his mother to make sure she wouldn’t give them trouble. Jett was sorted into Hufflepuff, though the Hat briefly debated putting him in Slytherin because of his ambitious nature. His halfblood status, odd tendencies, unusually calm temperament, and interest in the undead made him a target for bullies, of course, but instead of lashing out, he focused harder on his studies and turned to music as an outlet. He became quite the talented drummer! Cedric Diggory’s death at the end of his fifth year (Harry’s fourth) hit him rather hard, especially with all the rumors surrounding it. Only the ghosts of the castle would give him straight answers regarding it, further bolstering his theory that the dead were more honest than the living. Thus began his clandestine deep dive into the art of necromancy. By the end of his seventh year, he’d become obsessed, running off to the forests of Bavaria shortly after graduation to uncover what secrets were buried with the nameless dead. He roves the world over looking for such things, and has already managed to write a wonderfully macabre book on the subject: Secrets of the Unmarked Graves. He’s currently working on another manuscript that focuses on the hidden details surrounding Countess Bathory, Count Dracula, and other such undead nobles, with their permission, of course.
V; Vampire - Jett’s study of necromancy has led to a dalliance with a charming but manipulative vampire, and he ends up getting turned. Thankfully, he still has his magic, and can enchant a daylight ring for himself, but he’s thoroughly enthralled by his new master, wrestling with his rebellious nature and desire for acceptance in equal measure. (Open to plotting out who his master is!)
V; DC - It all started so innocently. Jett managed to get a music scholarship at Gotham University after he graduated from high school, eagerly taking the opportunity to get out of Asheville and make something of himself. Freshman year saw him starting a band with a few classmates, of which he was first the drummer and later the front man. Everything was going great. He graduated with honors, kept the band together and thriving, and managed to keep his practice of necromancy hidden from the general public. Until he got caught. By none other than a minion of Gotham’s Rogues Gallery. He wasn’t attacked, thankfully. Instead, the distraught man only sought solace, having lost a family member in the crossfire of one of his boss’s clashes with Batman. Jett talked with him for a while, connecting with his dead loved one. The next night, the henchman came back to the graveyard with a few others, and more the next night. By the end of the month, Jett had a small cult following, which he didn’t see coming, but wasn’t totally against, either, codependent as he was. Things spiraled from there. Due to some clashes with the law and with other Rogues, the cult became a gang known as the Whispering Grave, with Jett being its leader and known as Phasmagor, a masked necromancer. He taught magic to those who proved to be remotely capable of it while taking in any sentient undead, building a small army of mages, vampires, ghouls, and henchmen to aid in his machinations and protect his followers.

Police documents state that "officers responded to reports of shots fired at a downtown festival in the area of Court Plaza around 8:51 p.m. on June 17. Patrol officers quickly arrived on the scene and found two juveniles who were victims of gunshot wounds. Both juveniles were transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries. One has been released, and the other remains in critical but stable condition."
"Officers were able to locate two suspects nearby and took them into custody. Detectives were able to clear one and identify the other as the principal offender. Officers and Forensic Technicians recovered a 9mm pistol and a host of physical evidence that littered the park," police said.
A vendor who witnessed the shooting unfold told the outlet that they saw an argument occur between two people before hearing the sound of gunshots around 8:30 pm. The witness said that they saw one person run down Spruce Street, while the other individual hid in a vendor tent.

First Morning Coffee Equivalent
Welcome!
This is the infinite internet page where I’ll be consciously streaming streams of consciousness.
The desire to express my thoughts on music in whatever ways possible has been building up inside me since the day I was conceived, dare I say.
Plainly, I plan on writing about sounds I come across, old and new, that strike me. I tend to be oft stricken, and I’m hoping that, on top of these blurbs being fun to read, they’ll offer me a bit of an outlet. A canvas for me to destroy with internal connections of external stimuli. I won’t be quantifying reviews, just expressing personal experience, however that manifests; live shows, 15 second clips in advertisements, full albums, whatever. Leaving things a bit open ended here. It’ll definitely take me a second to figure it all out.
Anyway! Leah Wellbaum, the all-powerful leader of punk band Slothrust, writes and sings in her song “Cranium”,
I don’t wanna be addicted to the noise
But when it goes away I wanna die
When I proverbially got some of my shit together (it’s all relative), I moved to Asheville and pencil-dove awkwardly as fuck back into college. Thanks, Charles, for casually mentioning one day that UNCA has a music program. My concentrations became music (general) and neuroscience, a combo that asked me to use more parts of my brain and nervous system at one time than I’d ever known existed. One of my favorite classes involved vast insight on drugs and addiction, and specifics on what parts of our bodies are involved, why, and how. Therefore, another reason I’d like to dump all of my thoughts on this particular topic in one place is to subtly and purposefully reframe the textbook definition of addiction and therefore the way we exist and see other’s existences.
We all have addictions, yet the definition of that word has become so separate from the self and so commercialized, that it seems that we don’t get the time to explore what it all means. We’re too busy worrying if these things make us stand out or fit in instead of discovering how these things make us feel about ourselves and the world around us, and why.
There aren’t solutions to everything, but there are explanations, paths, answers, answers that lead to more questions, compromises, spaces, neurotransmitters.
So, I think I’ll start this page off with some descriptions: I’ll be writing about ten of my favorite albums of all time, in no particular order. It’s extremely difficult to create a seemingly permanent hierarchy of sounds; perception is so fluid.
That being said, if there’s something you want to talk about together, please let me know! Again, figuring out exactly how to make this a well-oiled situation will take some time, but I sincerely look forward to seeing where it goes.
Until next time, here’s proof of early musical influence and the concentration I was willing to put into it (magic blur is brother). It’s not unlikely that we were dancing to an album called Sanctuary: 20 Years of Windham Hill, one that brings up all kinds of emotions to this day when it graces my ears.
