I’m so sorry to hear you’re not feeling well :( You’d better remember that you are AMAZING and you are LOVED and you are NOT ALLOWED to forget either of those things!!! Try reading some of your new books as a distraction! Or if you wanna talk my DM’s are open hehe
I am going to the bookstore tomorrow… I have many books to buy… yayayyaayya I love shopping and I love books and I love going out tomorrow is going to be so fun and so joyful for me!!
Anyways! Another request because I always add them to my asks! Can you share your thoughts on little Chūya with caregiver adam. If I have my bsd facts right (pretty much if what I’ve heard being said online is correct) Chūya is in Europe right now and Adam is also in Europe a lot so,, they have to have met again at some point. Right. I also just like their relationship!! They’re very silly to me. Expect more Chūya asks from me soon I have more ideas about him (current era Chūya and Shirase. That’s what I mean by “ideas”…)
It feels odd not adding “- Fyodor Enjoyer” to the end of this ask but I have an agere blog to send asks from now so I don’t need to signify myself with any text at the end… it also feels odd sending an ask from the website instead of the app but I don’t want to log out of my main to send asks so I’ll just deal with this.
That sounds like so much fun!!! By the time I post this you’ve probably already got the books hehe, so how’d it go? Also I can absolutely do that! You do have your facts right too! (Stormbringer reunion save me… Yes I’m including Verlaine give me him back. I need my gravity brothers) I also do believe I like these ideas you have, I wanna reread Stormbringer but I have no time (╥﹏╥) Plus I’m already rereading The Day I Picked Up Dazai for a role play. Those two light novels hold a special place in my heart. Oh and Beast of course. This is turning into a ramble- Beast and Stormbringer destroyed me emotionally-
Little Chūya + Caregiver Adam
⋅˚₊‧ ୨୧ ‧₊˚ ⋅ 𓏲 ๋࣭  ࣪ ˖
⛦ Chūya definitely doesn’t like Adam at first. The idea of regressing around the android horrifies the poor boy. Of course with how much Chūya went through around the time they met… Adam ended up seeing like- A lot of Chūya’s regression- At first he was confused, but he used his amazing android data banks to research the topic! Soon enough he knew what was going on! At least well enough to take care of Chūya. Chūya was not a fan of being researched
✮⋆˙ It takes some time but of course they grow closer! Adam understands the loss Chūya had to go through, he saw it first hand, he’s very happy that Chūya has a way to cope with everything and he wants to offer his support as much as possible! Adam definitely researches everything. Asks Chūya details about his headspace age, snacks and toys he might like, any information that even might be important! Then he makes use of it of course! Researching how to care for children of certain ages, keeping Chūya stocked up on snacks, everything he can do!
⛦ The more Chūya accepts help the more he realizes that Adam is actually… Really really good at this. Adam isn’t judgmental, he literally can’t be. If he’s told to treat Chūya like a kid then he does exactly that, no questions asked. Without any kind of judgment Chūya is able to completely relax under Adam’s care. He doesn’t need to worry about talking care of himself even! I think with Adam would be the first time Chūya fully drops since leaving the Sheep. He’s not able to fully relax in the mafia setting
✮⋆˙ Chūya struggles a lot with his humanity. He’d been told he’s human. And believed it to a certain extent. But never fully. Luckily Adam’s android reasoning is perfect to get through to him! “M no’ a real hum’n…” “I’m not human, are you like me?” “Uhm… No” “Well then you must be human. Don’t worry about such things Darling” Then Adam proceeds to not listen to any other reasoning. Chūya is frustrated, partly because why is that so helpful?
⛦ Chūya is very much the kind of person addicted to self sacrifice. He takes no time whatsoever for himself. That’s why Adam steps in to take care of him! Adam offers to take Chūya’s calls for him! He’ll manage Chūya’s schedule organizing plenty of time for self care, or more accurately time for Adam’s care. Adam has definitely tried making him cutesy little schedules, even regressed Chūya hates them. They feel mocking
✮⋆˙ Chūya gets very attached to things very quickly! Adam is aware that he won’t be able to help Chūya all the time, so he makes sure to get Chūya plenty of things to use in case he’s alone, and to remember Adam by! Robot themed pacifiers and toys for example. But also stuff Chūya likes! Plenty of dog plushies and clothes, sippy cups. And he makes sure Chūya knows how to use everything and where it is! Gotta be easily accessible for the baby!
⛦ Nicknames! Adam has tried many pet names saying “little” or “small” Adam also very quickly found out that doing so puts one in danger. Chūya does not appreciate it, it feels like he’s being made fun of! So Adam has to work around that a bit hehe. He’ll use nicknames like “Kiddo” “Chū” or “Darling” Chūya loves all the pretty names as long as there’s no size comments! He is perfectly tall thank you very much
✮⋆˙ Chūya is almost obsessive when it comes to drinking milk. He regressed to a toddler headspace so Adam is like. Oh hey. Toddlers like juice “Chū would you like some-“ “MILK” Someone told him like once that milk helps you grow and he never got over that… Adam will try explaining that milk isn’t necessary to grow and Chūya will just glare at him in response. And trust me this baby can glare
⛦ Chūya is generally quiet and pretty well behaved. He’d very polite, always uses his manners. However he can throw some pretty bad tantrums if he gets worked up enough. He’ll throw things, float himself up to the ceiling, scream. He needs calmed down quickly or he will activate Corruption. Adam tries making it fun though! After all laughter is a wonderful cure, even though Chūya doesn’t appreciate his Android jokes. Anything Chūya throws Adam will throw back, trying to get the little one to focus on that. Or if he’s on the ceiling Adam will grab things to lightly poke him with! Once Chūya calms down Adam happily rocks him to soothe the baby
⋅˚₊‧ ୨୧ ‧₊˚ ⋅ 𓏲 ๋࣭  ࣪ ˖
Ta-Dah! I love Stormbringer so much you have no idea… Chūya was already one of my like top 10 then I read Stormbringer and I was like oh he’s just my favorite (Then I met Nikolai and he got knocked down a peg. Sorry Chūya but like… Nikolai). Anyway! Have a wonderful day/night and Sun I hope you’re enjoying your books!

begging you guys to look at more than just one book when it comes to using the irl authors’ works to further understand their BSD counterparts. all the time, i see people using only Naomi to understand Jun’ichirō Tanizaki and it’s like… Tanizaki is one of the most influential Japanese authors of the 20th century, and he has far more books than just Naomi. it’s such a shame, especially with such a deeply influential novel like The Makioka Sisters (often times said to be one of the greatest Japanese novels of all time) under his name.
now, don’t mistake my words: i’m not asking you to read every single book by every author featured in BSD (although if you would like to do so, here’s a wonderful online resource! due to these being classics, many free online PDFs also exist, and i’m happy to share ones that i’ve found!!), but if you’re going to use an actual author’s works in your analysis or theories, then please do your due diligence and at least research a few of their most popular works.
furthermore, looking into the life of the authors can also help in understanding the characters, as Asagiri often pulls from their history. continuing with using Tanizaki as the example, it’s likely that Naomi and Jun’ichirō’s dynamic was written like that because it’s speculated that Naomi was inspired by the affair Tanizaki had with his sister-in-law (as well as because some believe incestuous feelings are heavily implied between two sisters in The Makioka Sisters.)
uhm. anyways. pretty please read and research these pieces of literature if you have the time. i promise, if you enjoy classics they will not disappoint!! these authors are famous for good reason!!!

i said this on twitter, but i genuinely am betting/banking on the idea that nikolai will have a redemption arc someway or another, and if not an redemption arc, definitely something like having a redemption and then dying.
SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT / MORE EXTENSIVE RAMBLE!
i thought it was unrealistic at first, and my own product of my own fascination with nikolai…
AND THEN SEASON FIVE EPISODE ELEVEN CAME ABOUT AND—
Tumblr media
I’m wishing that Asagiri doesn’t fuck up Nikolai’s character, cause if he just leaves off nikolai to the sidelines, i will cry.
besides my own fascination for what a redeemed nikolai will be like, it also reminds me of a… certain scene… oh! right! Dazai’s scene with Oda!
Tumblr media
THEY BOTH HAVE THEIR EYES UNCOVERED FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! dazai even has his eye uncovered! and dazai in the latest episode probably KNOWS the pain of losing your closest friend, so he repressed not being snarky!
I don’t know how Nikolai might redeem himself, cause the key difference is that Dazai was advised by Oda to be that good person, while Nikolai was… not done that, but I feel like Fyodor’s (presumed) death will bring something out of Niko for him to redeem.
And if that’s the direction Asagiri is going for, then honestly, i would love it! it’s a direct parallel to Dazai’s own redemption arc… not to mention that Nikolai and Dazai are kinda one in the same somewhat bUT COUGH COUGH—
and if it’s not the direction he’s going for, i will be… slightly mad.
But before I end my ramble, here’s one last question.
Do I think he’ll bring Sigma along for the ride?
Duh. Sigma’s been teased to want to be a member of the ADA, of course Niko is probably going to bring them to redemption if that’s the case (or will it be the other way around… hmm?)
So, in conclusion, ASAGIRI REDEEM NIKOLAI OR ILL BREAK YOUR KNEES
(for the record this is a joke, Asagiri, you do you with Niko, but don’t underutilize him please i beg—)

I’m so mentally unwell it’s becoming even more concerning. First it was the HORRENDOUS animation of Akutagawa yesterday and now it’s THIS.
Anyway I’m making an oc for this and their name is Happy. Their ability is to bring everybody happiness and kisses and smiles and fix the wrongdoings of Asagiri. (All jokes aside I really love Asagiri though he’s so talented.)
Bring back season one shenanigans I beg of you please.
DAZAI AINT DEAD. THAT MAN CANT DIE AND HE HAS TRIED SO MANY DAMN TIMES. SIGMA GET THE FRICK UP RN WALK IT OFF BABY.

Still on my BSD shit. Writing rambles and snippets of WIP under the cut.
About a month ago I rewrote Gwyn's arrival at the airport with Ranpo and Fukuzawa.
She is traumatically taken out by Fukuchi after she begs him to free Kunikida and Jun'ichiro. By amenogozen to the stomach, which pierces through both her supposedly invincible knight protector and her, holding her aloft.
“Every injury you have inflicted will be paid back tenfold. You will pay for what you have done, Fukuchi Ochi. Even if I have to die to achieve it.” The words had hardly left her mouth when her world erupted into agony. Lancelot had seen the strike coming and had moved to intercept - in the blink of an eye he was in front of her, but just as quickly he was slammed backwards into her. Through the pain Gwyn heard shocked cries of her name from behind her – she wrenched her head to look down and realised with mounting horror that the sacred blade Fukuchi wielded was buried in her torso on the left side, having pierced directly through Lancelot’s armour to do so. Like meat on a skewer, the pair were raised aloft upon the glowing metal, crackling black energy enveloping them both. "So be it.” Fukuchi said simply.
She tries to hold him still, begging him to spare the others.
Lancelot was making strangled sounds in a way he never usually did when they were forced to make contact. She couldn’t see much beyond the metal directly in front of her face, but she had never known anything able to even make a dent in Lancelot, let alone penetrate his armour entirely. Just how powerful was Fukuchi? Their only hope was Ranpo’s plan, if they nullified Fukuchi’s ability then they could face him fairly. Lancelot turned his winged head slowly to his mistress and said, in barely more than a whisper, “I’m sorry, Guinevere.” With those hoarse words, the first time he had ever spoken her name aloud, he disappeared, leaving Gwyn suspended alone on the blade that had run her through. She placed trembling hands on Amenogozen’s blade, attempting to hold it but unable to find purchase with her shaking fingers. The pain that had spread through her via Lancelot was excruciating, and it took an immense effort to lift her head to glare at Fukuchi, who was watching her with an almost sad face. “Don’t hurt them.” Gwyn whispered, reaching out a pleading hand to the supposed hero one last time with all the energy she had left. “I’m begging you to do the right thing.”
Bitch Asagiri read my mind frfr look at this parallel literally ONE CHAPTER LATER.
Tumblr media
Bruh I wrote that A MONTH AGO after the last chapter release wtf
Please I am not normal about these two and their red ribbon of fate I beg.

One of my favorite dynamics in Bungo Stray Dogs is the one between Aya and Bram Stoker.
They’re both incredibly interesting characters in their own right. But they work surprisingly well together, they have an ability to naturally work together that Dazai wishes Atsushi and Akutagawa had /hj. For Bram, someone who is seen either as a monster or as a tool, having someone who genuinely seems to care about his well-being is certainly new to him. Because for someone who claims they have no interest in human affairs whatsoever, it took him all of ten minutes to start helping Aya. I think for Aya, having someone who (as I see it) respects her ability to do things and help is something she craves. Bram doesn’t question her for wanting to do something and help, in fact what he really does is try to help her by giving her information. And then there’s just the aesthetic of the dynamic. A ten year old girl who managed to outsmart a whole ass military general and is committed to saving the world; and the centuries old vampire that just wants to sleep that she stole, who has no interest in human affairs but is perfectly fine helping this small child.
These are just some scenarios I think would be a great addition to the series.
1. Aya gets the mark Fukuchi has on his hand and is able to use Bram’s ability to stop the vampirism.
2. Aya helps get Bram his body back. There are three ways this could go.
2a. Aya gets Bram his body back and then they both beat the shit out of Fukuchi.
2b. Aya gets Bram his body back but is severely injured in the process. I actually like this one more, here’s why. It would be a direct hit to the idea that Bram doesn’t care for other people, because I’m convinced he would be devastated. Thus, he would fight Fukuchi as an act of revenge, and we could see his full vampire powers in his anger. Aya would be healed by Yosano, or something along those lines.
But also imagine the ADA wondering why all of these powerful vampires have been defeated, and Bram walks up to them (with his body back), holding a severely injured Aya, and begs them to help her. The character development.
2c. Aya gets Bram his body back and is mortally wounded in the process. Now hear me out— what if Bram had the ability to just… turn someone into a vampire normally, like himself? Not as a part of his ability but just as an aspect of being a vampire. What if in an effort to save her, Bram turns Aya into a vampire. They both get to fight Fukuchi as vampires.
This is mostly self indulgent because I love the idea of Aya having to be taught by this old ass creature how to be a proper vampire.
Bram: “We sleep in coffins, it’s only natural.”
Aya: “Can I put stickers on it?”
Bram: “…What are these stickers you speak of?”
Aya: “I’m going to decorate it with stickers and glitter.”
3. Bram adopts Aya because Aya’s father is awful to her. Aya deserves better, and Bram actually seems like he’d be a great parental figure. Imagine Aya’s middle school graduation, and this literal vampire shows up like “Yes, this is my adoptive child. I don’t bite, I promise.”
ASAGIRI IF YOU HURT EITHER OF THEM I WILL NEVER RECOVER.

theory: fyodor’s ability is harming him
first off, i’d like to say this will probably be a very long post of my ramblings which may or may not make sense lol. if you spot any grammatical errors it’s because english isn’t my native language so i apologize. i took some inspiration from https://ratstoyevsky.tumblr.com/post/657013568752992256/fyodor-dostoyevsky-bungou-stray-dogs-ability , so please go check that post out :)
ever since fyodor first appeared, he’s been one of my favourite characters to analyze. we know virtually nothing about him - not even how old he is and most importantly, how his ability works. he’s been shown to only divulge the information he wants his enemies to know so he can always have the upper hand.
in the manga, he’s shown to be frail and weak looking with bags underneath his eyes — he’s also shown to be using his non threatening appearance to his advantage. honestly, i find the emphasis on fyodor’s appearance interesting and i think it’s intentional on asagiri’s part.
in chapter 42, fyodor says that he has anemia. in the same chapter, ace refers to fyodor as a “soulless, vampire like man”.
Tumblr media
according to the dead apple official guidebook:
Tumblr media
he has a pattern of surrounding himself with light colored, white haired men (ivan, nikolai, hawthorne, sigma, fukuchi, bram, shibusawa) which is in stark contrast to his black hair. white, in the bible and today, is associated with purity, innocence, cleanliness — all the things fyodor isn’t and all he wants to be.
so this begs the question - why is fyodor so unhealthy? personally, i think it has to do with his ability. we don’t know how his ability works exactly, but i think the mechanics of it have something to do with blood. both times we’ve seen him use it on someone, blood starts bursting from their body. i don’t think it’s a coincidence fyodor just so happens to be anemic.
i think fyodor’s ability is taking a toll on him or harming him somehow everytime he uses it, which is why he has anemia. i’m also saying everytime he uses it, because from the looks of it it’s not always active like no longer human is. but then again it could be, he hasn’t used it enough times for us to know. it could also tie into why he hates ability users so much: he’s the only one that has to suffer for using his ability. my 2 reasons for thinking this are: 1. when talking to karma in chapter 42, he says:
Tumblr media
2. what he says in dead apple:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
notice how fyodor is the one saying “i am crime” and his ability is the one saying “i am punishment”. just like ace, fyodor’s crime is merely existing; his crime is being an ability user and that’s why he’s being punished by his own ability. not only does he punish others for being sinners, he himself gets punished for being one. just like he said: “crime and punishment are close friends” fyodor’s ability is the punishment to his crime.
it also makes sense when you take crime and punishment, the book itself, into consideration. raskolnikov comitted a crime he wasn’t caught for, but his conscience tormented him to the point of confessing.
anyway i’m not sure if any of this makes sense, i hope you had fun reading at least 😭 all of the manga scenes are taken from dazaiscans !!

↣Asagiri Gen
Fandom: Dr. Stone
Pairing: Gen Asagiri/Reader
Content/s: Smile the pain away
Note: I suddenly don’t like what I wrote ://
Tumblr media
"Honestly, Gen smiles a lot. Its like theres no pain at all in his life"
Kohaku says, of course being a stone age human. They were all quite still a bit not knowledgeable for some things. With that statement, Senku, who stood beside her chuckled.
"Your a billion percent wrong about that"
"Huh?"
Senku shrugs pointing to Gen who was playing with Suika. Telling her to go ask the man himself, and went back to work.
"Hey Gen,"
"Ah, what is it Kohaku?"
He smiles, which disturbed her quite a bit over there. Maybe it was those days. His smile at times were always uncomfortable to look at.
"How are you always smiling?"
"I don't know what you mean" he chuckled.
"Well, even when something bad happens you always seem to smile. Even though you do look like you want to cry"
And something faltered, it was like the world was ending. He wasn't smiling, he was frowning, a frown that seemed to deep than the ones she's seen before. Most likely the ends of the earth as he sighs.
"Ah, of course it would be about that"
―――――
"Look, I don't know why that wasn't working. You said-!"
"Sir," the doctor interrupts him 'she needs another treatment and I'm afraid you'll be needing to wait a bit more"
He slams his hands to the counter. Obviously enraged, he wanted things to be better. Why can't it be better?
why won't anything work..
"You said last time's treatment would help!"
"Sir, something came up we need more time"
He could only sigh, tired. After all that shows, all that entertainment it still wasn't enough.
He needed to do more.
"Ah, Gen"
He nods at you, sitting on a stool as he sighs tiredly. Unnoticed, you could only frown for a bit before smiling back again.
Gen was tired. You were dying.
And he was doing so much just for you.
You hated it, you didn't want to waste his money just for you. You never understood why he was still doing this. But either way, Gen was getting stressed and you wanted it to stop.
"Gen," he could only hum a covering his face as he tries to contemplate and relax.
"Please stop doing this.."
His head shot up. Obviously shocked at the statement. He thought he was lying perfectly, how did you see pass those lies of his. Internally shaking his head, claiming that you were just trying to test him. He smiles, obviously another lie was coming out of his lips.
"Stop what Y/N-chan? If your thinking I'm stressed over this. That's-""Yes, you are stressed over this"
He paused, a mistaken move he did. He did a wrong move, and there was no turning back. With a sigh, he leaned on the wall and smiled sadly at the floor. Not wanting to meet the gaze you had on him. He was scared. He didn't want this.
"I'm doing this for you.."
"I understand, I'm flattered. But Gen," you continue, hands on his looking at him worriedly. "Your tired and stressed, and I don't like it"
"I can handle it"
"No you can't"
"Please!"
He's practically begging at this point. He was too pressured that tears were already flowing out. The bear weight he wanted to have alone was too much, but he didn't want to let go. He wanted to fix it. He NEEDED to fix it.
"Let me just...help you"
All you could do was remain silent. He wouldn't budge, wouldn't accept your decision. You were worried about him to death, and he was taking care of himself so little it pains you to see it.
――
"What happened?!" Gen rushes to the doctor, his nails practically grazing their coat in the process. Panic evident on his face as he looks at the doctors expression. They were tired and seemingly to look like they didn't know what suddenly happen at the moment.
"God dammit-! Answer me, please!"
He pleadingly yells at them, he would feel sorry for shouting at them. But he was desperate at the moment, he technically had to cancel a show once he heard.
"Miss Y/N... Seems to not have taken the new treatment we gave her"
Eyes widen in shock. Knees already starting to feel weak. He was in shock, so shock that he wanted a hole to open up and swallow him, or at least someone would tell him that it was a dream and that y/n was still alive and well.
But it wasn't, and he knew it. He wanted to stay in denial, but his other side didn't. It accepted the harsh ways of reality and he hated that side of his.
"Doc!"
A nurse rushes out of the room, clearly in panic. When they saw Gen it made their expression even more worse. He was a professional after all, he could read a person like a damn book, and they wouldn't know.
"So?"
The nurse whispered at them quietly before rushing back in. Gen noticed the sign off meaning that it was done.
"Asagiri-san," the doctor with a long sigh. He says sternly at the man before him.
"I'm afraid she didn't make it."

My predictions on BSD getting animated going forward
I’ll be taking a look at the novel page counts (Japanese and English) and comparing them to the screen time they’ve gotten so far and then using this to predict how long the remaining light novel adaptations will be (approximately). At the end will also be my rough prediction/hopes for the order of some of these being adapted. I say some because I have yet to read what there is so far of the gaiden novel translations, the main story manga has essentially still been on the DOA arc almost since where the anime left off, and I personally think that it’s currently too soon for Storm Bringer (aside from money purposes).
Note, most of this was written well before the anime 5th anniversary livestream but the announcements wound up not affecting it. I then of course made adjustments as needed account for the novel content we do have so far, both in Japanese and in English (officially).
Page to Episode Count
Not counting the afterward, ads, etc for the English/US copy, Japanese is including it
Also all eng page counts are using the Yen Press release and jp page counts are taken from the fandom wiki
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*148 is purely counting the Untold Origins portion of the novel. If we also count the A Day at the Agency short story that’s included before it (56 pages), then we get the full 203
Also the English page count for BEAST was noted before the English release date but after page counts have been posted by affiliated retailers, so subtract a couple pages from the written count of 176 for the time being to account for the afterward and possible character sheets being included
Now that we have our page to episode counts (as of April 5th, 2021), let’s find the actual content run time of what we do have animated so far.
Seasons 1-3 and the OVA all have the same episode length/duration. Each episode is 23 minutes, and we can subtract 3 minutes on average from that to account for the OP and ED being played. This leaves us with an average of 20 minutes of BSD story content per episode. So on average, each of the first 3 seasons contain 240 minutes, or 4 hours, worth of story content.
Dead Apple’s total run time is 91 minutes, with the OP and ED making up 9 of those minutes. However, we do have a bit of the story content being played while the ED is playing (as sometimes happens in the anime as well). To keep the math simple, I’ll be approximating story content time at 82 minutes.
Apply these numbers to the novels that have been animated so far and this is (approximately) what we get:
Tumblr media
Now let’s use these numbers to predict the screen time needed for the other novels
Note that we can’t really use Entrance Exam as a fair measure because of how much got cut out (just compare the run time of it to Dark Era and it speaks for itself). However, the numbers for Dark Era and Dead Apple are the best ones to use, as they both have minimal changes between anime and novel and both have official English translations currently available. Take out the approximate time taken up by OP/ED and and the numbers pretty much match up.
So with that being said, we can estimate Untold Origins (only) at approximately 3 eps/60 min and 55 Minutes at 1h 40-55min/100-115 min or 5-6 eps if it doesn’t get a movie. We can also estimate the A Day at the Detective Agency short story at the beginning of Untold Origins to take up about 1 ep, probably even a bit less.
1+ 3 + 5-6 = 9-10 episodes which isn’t enough for a full single cour season unless they all get put into one big OVA season, but also 10-11 eps (or less) seasons are a thing (ie. Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited, Blood Lad, Black Butler: Book of Circus, The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of a Holy War, FLCL)
My personal predictions/hopes for the anime adaptation timeline going forward
This is considering the manga content, current “pausing/stopping points” what wouldn’t be too awkward, each of the novels relevancy/necessity to the main story manga, and assuming we continue with single cour (12-13 ep) seasons
Hopefully/ideally a 55 Minutes movie
S4: ch 54-70
Early S5 (preferably) or end of S4: Untold Origins or A Day at the Agency
S5: ch 71-88/around where we are now?
A Day at the Agency can, in my opinion at least, be chucked in at any point either as a single episode OVA or as the light novel content for s4 (maybe not even taking a full episode and then starting ch 54 in the last few minutes for example). Keep in mind that the current DOA arc is a long one and has plenty to it, so personally I think it may even be better to not include a novel adaptation in a future S4, as it would likely already be a right squeeze content wise. Remember, we also have a few XX.5 chapters that are continuations of the chapter directly before them.
I still need to read what’s currently available of the gaiden novel fan translations but it can probably be adapted at any point as well. I’m estimating approximately 5-6 eps as an OVA series. I don’t really think it would get a movie, partially because you can make it only so long, especially since it’s an anime movie and unlike Storm Bringer, it doesn’t have Chuuya to practically guarantee the profit.
BEAST also doesn’t directly impact the main story and can be adapted at virtually any point. However, seeing as we do have a live action confirmed for it and it’s page count lines up very closely with Dark Era, it can be either 4 eps or (more likely in my opinion) a movie, as it can be considered almost stand alone content.
Personally, I believe it is currently way too soon to animate Storm Bringer as it came out only a little over a month ago (as of writing this) and has minimal plot necessity as of ch 91, but I do believe it should be either split into 2 movies (a part 1 and part 2) or it would need 8 episodes, likely as an OVA season. If it were to get animated sooner than 55 Minutes or Untold Origins, which I believe to be very unlikely, I feel that it would almost certainly be driven by the financial gains of Chuuya being included, and his popularity alone. Reminder, SB is about Chuuya and not SKK. Dazai’s appearance in SB is proportionally a very small percentage and he’s not even mentioned in the official plot summary.
However, you can argue that SB is starting to have some relevance now, with the recent mention of the Order of the Clock Tower in ch 90 and the increased relevance of sealed ability weapons in ch 91. However, I really do believe that you can’t adapt Storm Bringer before 55 Minutes because of Standard Island and its treaty, it also talks about sealed ability weapons, knowing who Wells is, and 55 Minutes canonically takes place during the “downtime” portion of S3. In fact, here’s Asagiri’s words directly from the Afterward (translation by Yen Press):
“this volume didn’t take place in the past, but rather sometime after the tenth volume of the manga. In other words, it’s a tale about the ‘usual’ detective agency in novel format.” (55 minutes, p 237)
Untold Origins also should be adapted sooner rather than later (at least compared to SB in my opinion) because it’s about Ranpo and Fukuzawa’s shared past, which becomes increasingly relevant ch 70 onwards, as well as the need for the ADA being founded (which ties in with Yosano’s backstory in ch 65-66).
In regards to whether I think each of these would be better suited to a movie adaptation or as multiple regular length anime episodes, it’s mainly due to page count and partly due to the budget difference between the two, as well as how difficult I think it would be to animate each of these based on what needs to be drawn. The anime industry isn’t the fastest to switch to newer technology, hence why we see issues with 3D blending sometimes. I really do think that at the very least, 55 Minutes deserves the movie budget because of how detailed and complex the architecture of Standard Island is described as, as well all the mechanical parts needed for the final battle of the novel. Hate the lizard mouths introduced in Dead Apple all you want, but you can’t deny that the 3D cgi was blended very smoothly. For any of the other novels to be movies, it’s more so because gaiden and BEAST can be considered their own stand alone stories that don’t rely too heavily on the main story in terms of when they take place and get adapted. I feel that SB is more likely to get its own season or an OVA season more so due to its length, but multiple part anime movies have also been done before (ie. the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel movies), so it’s not entirely impossible. Especially considering that merely having any Chuuya screen time means that you can expect the profit and popularity to really go up, especially with SKK being on screen together (regardless of whether you love or hate how the fandom tends to push a shipping POV on them).
These are all of course just my hopes and predictions and estimates based on information currently available, so take them with some salt. I’d love to hear opinions on how, when, and why each of the currently non animated novels should be adapted going forward. Also please stop begging the relevant BSD official Twitter pages for SB to be animated next and go read the other light novels you Chuuya simp

**Update: The works mentioned in this post have since been taken down. The “message” was removed by AO3 because it was a violation of their TOS and it seems the author chose to remove their “opinions” piece.**
Despite the ongoing world crisis, I hope everyone is doing great as the year comes to a close and prepping for a safe holiday season.
I don’t really post here a lot, but I just wanted to talk about a problem that exists in every fandom and has recently come up for me in the BSD fandom. This problem is typically referred to as: toxic behavior, however, I sort of hate that term because it’s an umbrella term that encapsulates a wide array of behaviors that is purposefully vague so as to imply everything can be toxic, which means the definition changes depending upon the person, and ends up getting thrown around to describe any behavior that a person dislikes. That said, most people can agree that the term ‘toxic behavior’ includes “shipper wars” and harassing people because of their “ship”.
Yesterday, a user on AO3 going by the penname E_C_arts posted a message titled “deer Soukoku fans” and giving it the not-innocuous summary “please we’re begging you, please stop”. Clicking through leads to a rather prime example of this particular flavor of toxic fandom behavior, guised as an attempt to defend those who were allegedly victims of this self-same behavior, also a lovely example of emotional manipulation.
Tumblr media
Although what’s currently posted (and what I managed to screen shot below) may not seem terrible on first glance, if not a little cringey, and can be easy to agree with (don’t bully people that write for a ship you dislike), this was not their original message and has been edited since being posted and, and only after receiving the number of comments it did and which they’re now noting as “proving their point” – a point which they erased, thus manipulating perceptions. I wish I had gotten a screenshot of the original, but if you scroll through the comments, you can find some people that quoted it.
Tumblr media
This person most definitely did open their “message” to Soukoku fans by literally telling them to “stop writing” for it. They claimed there was some unspecified AU (or maybe multiple unspecified AUs) that had been overwritten for, that it was overused, and not original. They went on to talk about how the abundance of soukoku content was turning off new fans to the series (don’t even know how that logics…) and bullying people from creating content for other ships, basing these irrational sentiments off some false claim that removing everything with the soukoku ship from the fandom would only leave behind a sad, inacccurate (and oddly specific) 305 posts.
Evidence of their now deleted perspective can be further seen in another post they made to AO3 a couple days before this ugly rant. Titled simply “My unpopular BSD opinions”, they didn’t manage to garner much attention and went mostly ignored because, well, it’s your opinions about the show and that’s whatever. Of course, when you click into it, the very first “opinion” shared, is that they hate Dazai x Chuuya. Okay, that’s an opinion everyone is entitled to, and that’s fine. You don’t like the popular ship, that’s…not exactly an unpopular opinion, there’s quite a number of people that don’t ship soukoku. No problem. Until, they go on to elaborate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the title of this piece being ‘their opinions’, they state as ‘fact’ that its confirmed that this is “not a thing”, so ‘please stop shipping them it doesn’t work, it’s way too overused for it to be “funny” anymore’ (I’m a little confused about this wording, because Shipping is Serious Business™, so…not sure there are too many soukoku shippers doing it because they think it’s hilarious or whatnot, in fact, most soukoku fics are tagged ‘angst’, which we all know, angst is very ‘haha, lol’…but whatevs). They then include the same sentiment they expanded on in their Dear John to soukoku fans and subsequently deleted: “Please stop, there are too many au’s with almost the exact same plot Chuuya and Dazai being together, its really difficult to find any non-Dazai x Chuuya au’s”.
On the surface, once again, there are some “truths” to this sentiment. DaiChuu is a popular ship and there is a disproportionate amount of soukoku ship fics on the fandom comparative to other ships (soukoku comes in at a whopping 10,000+ currently, with the next popular ship Aku/Atsushi sitting at a decidedly less 2500+). It’s really not that difficult to find non-DazaixChuuya fics, if you know how to use filters on AO3, but there are going to be less to read from when you filter it down, and depending on your ship, you may find yourself in a fic desert, and I can certainly understand why someone young and lacking in rational thought processes might want to blame the popular ship for this predicament.
The problem with this logic, and it permeates every fandom, not just BSD, is that the shippers sharing and loving their ship are not to blame for your lack of ship content. You just don’t have a popular ship. If all the people who love soukoku stopped creating content for it, as this person is ‘begging’ them to do, that’s not going to increase the amount of content for your ships, because the reason that content isn’t being created is because there aren’t enough shippers for it. So, the only way this person’s logic works, is if what this person is actually saying, isn’t that they want these people to stop creating content for the BSD fandom, they just want them to jump ship, stop creating content for soukoku and start creating content for their ships.
Any creator/fan is going to have a visceral reaction to that: who the fuck are you to tell me what to create? And for free, no less!
This moves us more towards a clearer definition of what is toxic fandom behavior. In short, its telling anyone how they should interact with or interpret their favorite content. I mean, even Word of God does not have this power. That’s because every single fan in a fandom is an individual human being. They are possessed of their own autonomy, and as a creator I know, that once you put something out into the world and give it over to others, you have little control over how people consume and feel about your work. You can tell them your intention, but that’s not going to sway them to interpret it that way, and that’s…just the way it works.
Now, the elephant in the room needs to be addressed. It’s easy for me to be ‘offended’ by this person’s post and not see their complaints because I am a soukoku fan. I’m also the target of this person’s rant, and one of those people this person is attempting to emotionally manipulate into writing for other ships in the fandom for which I have no preference. But I am capable of seeing the other side of this argument.
First, because I do have other fandoms in which I am part, and for which I have a rare-pair ship. For example, I am a Gundam Wing fan and a 2x5 (Duo/WuFei) shipper. I’ve posted two 2x5 fics on fanfiction.net. While 2x5 is not the rarest of rarepairs in the Gundam Wing fandom, it is significantly eclipsed (as are almost *all* ships in the fandom) by the 1x2 (Heero/Duo) ship. Do I hate 1x2 shippers for my lack of 2x5 content? No. I just appreciate what I’ve got all the more, and I’ll create content for it when I feel compelled, and I sure the fuck won’t implore 1x2 shippers to stop writing for their fave and write more for mine because I want more 2x5 – that’s sheer entitlement, right there, pure and simple. I also ship 3xD (Trowa/Dorothy) in Gundam Wing, which *is* the rarest of rarepairs – I think there’s only, like, two stories in existence that features this pair on the entirety of the internet. I’m also a RavenxMurphy (Murven) shipper in The 100 fandom and I do not hate Bellarke fans because…those people are scary and have canceled the show’s creator for not delivering on Bellarke, and in BSD, I ship Atsushi/Lucy (yes, I said it, they’re cute af and I hope Asagiri delivers on that ship). I also low-key ship Yosano/Ranpo (sorry, Ranpo/Poe shippers, I understand the appeal, I just think him and Yosano is sooo cute, please don’t kill me…), and I also ship Yosano with Kunikida – all of which are some of the rarest in the BSD fandom.
Second, because I have seen and called out shipping harassment in the BSD fandom, so I am well aware that this kind of thing exists – as it exists literally everywhere and in every flavor. Against soukoku shippers from antis and by soukoku shippers against shippers putting Dazai or Chuuya with any other characters and by soukoku shippers against other soukoku shippers that are, uh, “doing it wrong”. None of these is appropriate. You’re not fighting fire with fire if you’re an anti-attacking the popular ship, you’re just creating a bigger fire and burning the entire fandom down. You’re not defending your ship if you are a soukoku fan attacking non-soukoku fans, you’re just punching down by attacking a less popular ship. And top/bottom arguments aren’t just toxic, they’re also deeply entrenched in fetishization of same sex pairings through a forced heteronormative lens and is, kind of, sort of, actually homophobic in its basis (yes, I said it. It’s ignorant and homophobic and trying to argue with ‘personality/physical traits’ as evidence of who serves what position in the bedroom can be emotionally and mentally damaging to members of the LGBTQ community. Claiming that Chuuya should be bottom because he’s shorter/smaller, or that Dazai has ‘bottom energy’ because he’s more flamboyant and ‘feminine’ is straight up discrimination – a shorter guy can definitely be top, and a manly man can be bottom, it’s not a behavior based on perceived gendered traits, it is just a fucking preferred sexual position, and no, you are not ‘fixing it’ by purposely using positions for these characters that eschews the stereotypes either. Trying to justify positioning by personality/physical traits at all, in any way, shape, or form is just not okay – if it’s your preference, it’s your preference, no justification needed, just recognize that it is *your* preference and arguing what’s ‘right/wrong’ positioning is just plain wrong).
But this brings us to a different issue: bad actors and blaming a whole community for a ‘few rotten apples’. I could easily lump this one person in with everyone that does not ship soukoku and deem them all toxic, aggressive, entitled, bullies attempting to harass soukoku shippers off the platform. Or I could see them for what they are, individuals with individual motivations and drives and morals that also happen to share the same shipping preferences. Is it true to say that there are no soukoku fans that engage in the behaviors described by E_C_arts? No, there are definitely those that do, as there are antis that engage in that same behavior against soukoku fans. But this person also asserts that soukoku fans turning ‘every BSD post about soukoku’ is also a toxic behavior. To which I refer you back to one. This is how they engage with and interpret the work. Don’t yuck on someone else’s yum. People want to gush about how cute they thought soukoku were in an official art, or that they felt there was some hidden (or not so hidden) interaction between them that validates their ship, or their inspired to create soukoku content based on it, so what (for the record, it irks me too when people go ‘see it’s canon and Bones totally ships it’, because it’s unlikely, given BSDs genre, that any romantic relationship will be confirmed, soukoku notwithstanding). It is not, in fact, toxic to gush over it. Let them have their fun with it, let them enjoy their ship. Now, if you go and make a comment about liking the art for other reasons and they reply to you about “…but also soukoku”, then still, that’s not toxic, that’s just them enjoying the content the way that they enjoy it, so let them enjoy it, and you opened yourself to engagement without any qualifiers for the type of engagement you were soliciting, you can’t then backtrack and go ‘but I’m not a soukoku shipper, they should’ve been able to read my mind and known that, it’s totally toxic of them to share their personal reasons for loving the show in response to my sharing my love for the show’. But if you comment about another ship, and they reply to you “…ew, gross! It’s 100% soukoku” then yes, that’s toxic. A lot of people fail to make this distinction, that they are, maybe, merely being triggered and not actually harassed, by feeling like their ship isn’t being validated because they see another ship all over the place and everyone they engage with ships it.
It’s also toxic, to take an experience with one person and hold every soukoku shipper in existence responsible for that one person’s inappropriate behavior. The truth is, that bad actors amongst soukoku fans are not unique, not to the ship and not to the fandom and not even to fandom culture in general. Every group in existence everywhere has bad actors in it that, while the group disavows their behavior, they continue to be held accountable for those individuals and judged by them. For current events, look at how the BLM movement has been blamed for bad actors (many of whom were not actually BLM activists) that took advantage of the protests and started riots and chaos. A small percentage of people were involved in these behaviors, but the entire movement, despite speaking out against rioting, continues to take the blame for it. For me, that’s the root of toxicity. We need to start holding individuals accountable and stop blaming people who have no control over those individuals, because they share a few similar beliefs or interests. That’s throwing the baby out with the bathwater. But the shippers as a whole are not to blame for the actions of a few, and the reason that it feels that there are so many more soukoku fans that do this is because of volume, there are so many more soukoku fans. It’s basic math. If two percent of fans are these toxic kinds of shippers, then there’s going to be so many more of them in a larger population than a smaller one.
I try to call out toxic behavior, no matter if it’s my ship being lambasted or one of my fellow shippers doing the lambasting, whenever I see it, but the trouble is, I don’t typically go into fan content that isn’t for my ship and, thus, I don’t see it. The same goes for the vast majority of soukoku fans out there. We’re here for soukoku content, we’re seeking out soukoku content, and avoiding what isn’t soukoku content. But here is my offer to all of those who are outside of my ship. I like to argue. If someone is harassing you for having a non-soukoku ship, call me, let me know, I will argue with them for you. I will explain to them in no uncertain terms, and in many unpleasant ways, that they do not represent the soukoku shipping community and they are an embarrassment to us. Content for any and all ships is welcomed and encouraged within the fandom. Write, draw, contribute, be a part of the fandom and express yourself, please. If you are a soukoku shipper (or even if you’re not), and someone is harassing you about your top/bottom preference, call me, let me know, I will argue with them for you. I will explain to them why their justifications for which character should be top or bottom in a same sex pairing is grossly misrepresentative and exploitative of the LGBTQ community and rather disgusting. Do not assume that because we seem to remain silent on these types of harassment that it’s because we are in agreement with them, it is only because we haven’t seen them – why would we, we’re not going in those spaces that weren’t created for us. Ask the community for help, don’t attack the rest of us for the poor actions of a few that we were not even aware of. Let us help you in policing them, rather than assuming we don’t care. We are just too busy staying in our lanes, but if you need us, we are here. Majority of us want a clean, friendly, welcoming community for creators of all types as much as you do.
All of this aside, there are spaces and places for these debates and AO3 is not it. Posting this kind of message is actually a violation of AO3 TOS, constituting as harassment, which is defined on the AO3 TOS as “…any behavior that produces a generally hostile environment for its target…”( https://archiveofourown.org/tos#IV.G.). This general behavior also falls into the realm of another kind of toxic fandom behavior: hijacking a platform/tag for your own purposes that is a direct contradiction to its express usage (otherwise, known as trolling). AO3 is for posting fan-made content that contributes to a deeper understanding and expansion upon the original work. Using AO3 to attack people who are using AO3 for exactly what it is designed to be used for is an abuse of the platform. It’s not okay and invites similar content that will ultimately interfere with the original purpose of the platform. AO3 is for fan content, not for your own personal rants about other people in the community, please keep it that way
I do also want to note, that this person choosing to edit their post after receiving the justified ire from fans (notably soukoku and non-soukoku fans alike upset by the audacity of this person, who, as far as can be told, has never themselves contributed fanfiction to the community, to tell people what they can and cannot write) for their original comments, is a form of manipulative abuse called ‘gaslighting’. They are now claiming to be a victim that “never said to stop writing”, despite that having been the literal words they used in the opening of their original post. They are now pointing at these comments as “proof” of their point that soukoku fans are aggressive bullies that attack without cause when there was definitely cause from the original comments. This person clearly has bigger issues than just lacking shipper content for their personal preferences on the BSD fandom.
To all of those who are afraid to share content for your ship because you think you’ll be harassed, as evidenced by this person’s claims, that is simply not true. While there might be one or two people that say something, we all get them no matter if you have a popular ship or a rarepair ship, haters are gonna hate – I’ve gotten my share of hateful comments towards my ships too, but there are many more people that share your ship and are interested in your content, in fact, some of them are starved for it. While having a rarepair might mean you’ll garner less interactions with your content, you have a better opportunity to form a deeper bond with the people that do interact, and they may be more appreciative, because what you’re delivering to them is so much harder to come by. The existence of one ship does not affect your ship’s popularity, and if it simply went away, that doesn’t mean that your ship would receive more attention – in fact, it might mean the show itself would receive less attention.
Create and let others create and use platforms for their appropriate purposes, and most importantly, when it comes to addressing toxic behavior in a fandom, look to yourself first. Are you placing the blame where it belongs? Are you addressing the root cause of the problem or swinging blindly and attacking innocent bystanders in the process? Will what you say actually help the problem? Or will it contribute to the issue, and maybe even create an issue that didn’t exist before?

BSD Stage: Dark Era
I’ve been wanting to write a report aka feelings post about this stage play, but for days I wasn’t able to compose my words (and myself). I’m glad I found this review by our beloved @looking-for-stray-dogs and now please excuse me as I add my own thoughts (while trying my best to be coherent) on this. I encourage you to read her post first because more details about the play are written there!
Under the cut for spoilers! All photos are from official accounts
Tumblr media
Stage is indeed a different platform and more than any of the adaptations - light novel, anime - this medium is the one that felt the most alive. Well literally ofc, but you know, you just feel the fact that... they are there. Odasaku, Ango, teen Dazai. In 3D human forms, breathing, hurting, falling apart inside... dying.
I was not near enough to see their facial expressions very very clearly, except for the scenes when they were very near the edge of the stage. So what hit me the most was the emotion in their voices - which I happen to be very particular with since I am a voice actor fan.
I liked that Odasaku here is more emotional than the one in anime.
His smiles. Oh my gosh. How much he enjoyed playing with the kids.
Tumblr media
His voice. How it cracks more and more as he pats the head of each kid when he was saying good night to them. It was totally breaking when he was down to the last one, Sakura, which was akin to how our hearts have broken, too.
And yes, when Dazai was stopping him from going, Odasaku’s voice was cracking when he told Dazai that he wanted to be a novelist. I really felt how much he wanted it, but there was no way it could ever come true at that point. He was not just grieving for the kids; Odasaku was grieving for himself, too.
Ango. I don’t know what is it but Araki-san’s portrayal made me like Ango even more. He did indeed betray his friends, but he.was.very.much.hurting.too. I deeply appreciated that they included that epilogue scene in the novel when Ango was looking at the picture of the three of them together.
Mori. Yes! His voice was indeed very fitting and there were even times when he almost sounded like Miyamoto-san (anime VA). At some parts though, Mori and Elise’s appearance was somewhat distracting esp when I could’ve preferred to focus on the scene that was not about them. Like, Mori’s appearance is fine but Elise doing all the same grumpy reactions in the background was kinda off for me.
Music insert. Oh gosh. I couldn’t listen to Kaze ga Fuku Machi days after the play because the feels were too much for me to take in. This is my favorite BSD song, and the song’s lyrics are engraved in my heart and wow oh my gosh, I was not prepared that they suddenly played it during that scene. It was *heavy breathing* when Odasaku screamed after the kids exploded. And suddenly, I couldn’t see the stage anymore... for my eyes were filled with tears. I can’t compare Taniguchi-san (stage actor) and Suwabe-san’s (anime VA) screams during that scene, both are heart-crushing no matter what, but hearing it live on stage really pierced through my heart.
Reason Living. This is my second favorite BSD song, but as opposed to the previous one, I somewhat didn’t like where this song was inserted in the play. It was right after Odasaku died. The song was too lively and loud for that moment. Maybe nothing can replace Kaze ga Fuku Machi for me in this scene, but maybe it wouldn’t sound fit if they repeat the same song after using it in the screaming scene.
Dazai. *sighs* Where do I even start? I think I was one of the first people who shed tears during the play, and it was because of Dazai. It was just from their first scene, when Dazai was telling Odasaku about the stories of how he got his injuries. I know, that’s not a scene where anyone is supposed to cry, but gosh. Tawada Hideya’s acting. Contrary to Lea’s opinion that the Dazai in this stage is flirty, the message that came across to me is that this stage showed how much of a child Dazai Osamu was back then. The way he freely acts when he’s together with his friends in contrast to the demon prodigy of the Port Mafia. Sometimes we look at Mafia Dazai but forget that despite their experiences in the past, he was still young. And Odasaku understood that way before and way deeper than anyone else.
I really liked that they included that precious line in the light novel when Odasaku was talking to Gide, “That guy was just a child who’s too smart. Just a crying child who’s been left alone in the darkness, a world of nothingness far emptier than the world can see.” (translation by nkhrchy.tumblr)
This was my tweet after watching the stage play:
Tumblr media
On the other hand, I have a very huge bias towards Miyano Mamoru as Dazai’s voice actor. While Hideyan did touch me in many scenes on his portrayal of teen Dazai, there were lines when I found them lacking. As Lea had mentioned, one of that was the scene when Dazai was begging the Mimic soldier to shoot him. He did yell, “PLEASE”, too strongly and loudly, I think, intending to drown Odasaku’s voice of stopping him. However I also thought that a soft, begging one would be more appropriate.
Another one is when Dazai told Mori that the reason he is going is that, “He is a friend.” I think the anime was more emotional in this one esp with the close-up of the peaceful look on Dazai’s face, and the silent pause.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the Odasaku dying scene (ouch, how do we call that). Miyano Mamoru’s desperate but helpless trembling voice in that scene is imprinted in my heart and my ears - when I say I have it memorized, I mean it. Most probably because of this post (please listen to it with earphones): Odasaku’s Final Moments. So I’m sorry but I really couldn’t help but compare it so somehow, Hideyan’s acting in that scene didn’t give me as much feels as the anime did. However, seeing the light novel scene of Dazai lighting up Odasaku’s cigarette in that scene, then the anime scene of Dazai’s bandages getting pulled off, and lastly the scene fading out to Odasaku passing away on his friend’s lap with Dazai tilting his head up silently after - which then showed us his pained expression - was a good seal to the scene. I couldn’t ask for more. Oh.my.gosh.stop
And ofc, the final scene which Asagiri-sensei thoughtfully added. Dazai was back in Bar Lupin, in his ADA clothes, happily saying, “Odasaku, I found it! A job that saves people.” Odasaku appears, and Dazai continues... “Are you happy for me?” Odasaku doesn’t utter a single word, but smiles and pats Dazai on the head, and leaves.

This is giving me a thousand feels because I know, I can feel it, let me say it.
Dazai, Odasaku is very proud of and very happy for you.
This is just for me, but Odasaku saying nothing, but just pats his head while smiling? It’s giving me the feels that - at least one of Odasaku’s orphans made it.
*screams*

*picks up myself*
*exhales*
Over-all, it was definitely a very beautiful adaptation of the light novel. Lea has already pointed out a lot of things in her post above so I also didn’t mention the other details in this post. Can’t really say that it’s perfect, but the stage play adaptation was more than satisfying and really made me love BSD and Asagiri-sensei MORE.
Lastly, I leave you with this tweet...

Rules: Complete all the questions you want, expand and explain your answers as much as you want, and have fun!
If you can, tag some people you want to join in on the fun!
Tagged by: @datura-foxglove (and @joeys-piano tagged my main, so I'll just do this here! Thank you to both of you <3)
Tagging: @ahvulon-nightingale, @that-taters-my-tots, @ladytective, @jollyquinn13 (only if you guys want to do it, of course! <3)
Question list here
What ability would you have in the BSD universe?
(What would it be called? What’s its purpose? How does it work?)
Oh boy, that's a good question. I'd like to think it'd be called City of Everlasting Rain (title of a book I'm working on). I'd be able to create very convincing copies of people already dead, and the copies can move but not speak. It can technically serve as an offensive ability, but it's more a psychological attack than anything else.
Restrictions: I need to know the exact face of the person I'm copying. If the person is not dead, it won't work. The copy would be lacking fine details that I have no way of knowing about (like a birthmark in a place that isn't visible). I can only do up to 3 copies at a time, and not of the same person.
If you could claim someone’s ability in BSD, whose ability would you want?
Light Snow. There's just something about a stealth oriented power that I really enjoy. The ability to disappear from everyone's eyes and also to create illusions is one I would deeply appreciate.
What group/organization would you join?
(ex. Guild, Port Mafia, Armed Detectives’ Agency, Rats, etc.)
Can I please say none? JFKFKFKFK With how my body reacts to stress, I'd probably die from a heart attack on the first week. But if I really do have to choose, then the ADA. They have a more “weird family” thing going on, I think I'd thrive way more with them.
However, given the nature of my ability, maybe I'd end up being blackmailed into joining the Rats before the ADA can find me first. Can I get an F
Which BSD character do you identify with the most?
I think on a more obvious level, definitely Dazai. Given his boredom and his depression, he’s definitely a character I can relate to. The way he puts on a smile and makes himself out to be just an “unaware idiot”, for example. Even the small stuff like procrastinating or being really bad at organizing things, including his own room. This is exactly why I’m very sensitive to how people treat Dazai and his character arc tbh; we can actually see how he’s growing from the person he used to be, and slowly finding meaning in what he’s doing, which is really important to me. If he were to die at the end of BSD like some people theorize it will happen, I can assure you BSD will leave a very bad taste in my mouth, and I’d probably never pick it up again.
Who are your top five favourite BSD characters?
(You can change the number)
1. Ango (duh)
2. Dazai
3. Odasaku
4. Ranpo
5. Yosano
Are there any authors that you’d want to bring into the BSD universe that hasn’t arrived yet? Or do you have OCs?
Hmmmmm I don’t think so...? I’m a very go with the flow person in regards to characters showing up, I’m satisfied with whatever new author Asagiri brings into the mix. Besides, my favorite author and inspiration (Edgar Allan Poe) is already in BSD so I don’t have any other wishes. Maybe only Conan Doyle when we get to know more about the English ability users.
Favourite Scene(s)?
Aw geez, uhm... Well the scene that stuck with me the most is the one where Dazai eggs on the Mimic soldier, urging him to shoot Dazai. That scene had a lot of impact on me, and it still does (so it’s no surprise that my reply to the next question will be from that scene as well jhfdsfk)
The hospital scene with Ango and Dazai. To me, that’s the moment you can truly see the extent of the rift between them, all the strong emotions that go unsaid. It’s the scene that cements the dynamic of their relationship post-Dark Era, and I never tire of watching it and picking it apart.
Favourite Quotes from the Authors/Characters?
“I hope you can see the joy in my eyes. With just a press of your fingers, you can give me what I desire most. [...] Please, take me with you. Wake me from this oxidizing world of a dream...” - Dazai, episode 13.
This one for the reason I already said above. I have a lot of feelings and thoughts on this scene, but it’s more than I am willing to discuss here.
“Sakaguchi Ango, a intelligence officer with the Port Mafia. A mysterious intellectual, no one knew who you really were.” - Odasaku, Episode 13.
This line right here destroys me every single time, because, to me, it summarizes Ango’s relationship with the other two. They have been friends for, what, around 2 years at this point? Odasaku can say he understood Dazai (and he did, as shown by his last words to Dazai), but can the same be said about Ango? At this point, he wasn’t yet aware that Ango was a traitor, but you can feel the uncertainty in their relationship. He’s sitting there, where he friend lives: a mostly empty hotel room. In the animation, the song that plays in this moment is sorrowful, even melancholic. I don’t know if this is supported by the novel, but I take this scene as the moment when Odasaku is only now starting to face the fact that he never knew Ango at all.
Btw, my copies of No longer Human and Poe’s works are in Portuguese and I’m too lazy to look up the English quotes, so this is it I suppose FHDUSJIFS
Who would you want to bring to life to be your best friend? Waifu/Husbando?
Please Odasaku if you’re out there, I’m begging you.... Pretty please.....
Also of course I’m marrying Ango, what kinda question-
How has Bungou Stray Dogs changed you as a person? Did you learn anything from it?
I wouldn’t say that the anime itself changed me? But it was thanks to it that I met one of my best friends, who always helps me to grow as a person. For that, I’m forever grateful

Ranpo, Kunikida, and Dazai for the ask meme?
Give Me A Character; And I’ll break their ass down:
Sorry in advance for the long response!
Ranpo:
How do I feel about this character:One of the more interesting characters of the series as he has no ability despite the series focusing almost solely on ability users. A good boy that made me emotional while reading his light novel (okay, I also cried at the Oda scene like the Oda fangirl I am but that’s besides the point). A small boy that I wanna protect.
All the people I ship romantic with this character:Poe: I just,, love how pure Ranpoe is. They are soft boys together. Also, I feel into Ranzai hell because I hate getting new content of the ships I like. Okay, but Dazai and Ranpo have the personalities and capability of having great chemistry together and I just,, I love them smart boys together,
My non-romantic OTP for this character:Yosano: They just have nights where they hang out talking shit about everyone else while also talking about their love life.Fukuzawa: Give me the father/son content that I need! Also: In AU’s where Oda survived, them being good friends, it A+ stuff
My unpopular opinion about this character:He’s not the gremlin man-child the fandom makes him out to be.
One thing i wish would happen/ had happened with this character in canon:More of the interactions Ranpo had with Fukuzawa and the ADA members between light novel 3 and the current story.
Let me put the rest under a read more cause I wrote so much!!
Kunikida:
How do I feel about this character:Uhh, besides the fact that he is one of two characters I’ll cry about for an hour about in this series? Okay, let me be serious here. Kunikida is the best written and developed character in the series besides Oda. He is such a good boy. The fact that he holds onto his ideals and the way of life he set out for himself even when these are constantly tested and pushed over and over again is just so awe-inspiring. Such a noble man and a person of virtue. He so selfless and he just wants to protect everyone he can. And the moment that he fails for whatever reason, the lose hits him hard. And even when he loses someone, he puts his heart out for people again and again. He just wants, no needs, to help people, the consequences to himself be damned. I just,,,, really love Kunikida and I can and will cry about him. Also, he’s a sharped dressed glasses boy with long hair, I was in love with his design before I even fell in love with his character
All the people I ship romantic with this character:Dazai: Since the very first episode of the anime. These two truly understand each other better then anyone else at the agency. Also, they care about each other so much!!! They have their fights sure, but they’re never malicious in nature. Please, just read light novel 1! It’s the good Kunikidazai content, and it shows just how quickly they get to understand and know each other.Katai: Ever since chapter.41 got translated, I fall in love with them. First off, childhood friends guys, the good stuff. But, they truly are such good friends that care about each other so much and would go to any length for each other!Oda: In AU’s where Oda lives. I think the two of them would get along so well, They’re similar in many ways, yet they have enough little differences in their view points and life experiences that they wouldn’t become stale togetherAngo: Glasses boys that deal with DazaiAlso, lowkey ship with Chuuya and Ranpo
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Anyone under 18 in the series are now his kids, no ifs or buts. He’s every child’s parent now. A family can be a 22 year old man and his many kidsFukuzawa: Father/son bonding over training together
My unpopular opinion about this character: Stop making Kunikida heartless and cold 2K17!!!
One thing i wish would happen/ had happened with this character in canon:“Slides Asagiri $20* Please, I beg you. Give me the forbidden Kunikida backstory on how he became the driven man he is nowKunikidazai team up in the manga, please! Also, Kunikatai going to school togetherWhat do you mean I was only supposed to list 1 thing??
Dazai:
How do I feel about this character: I hate this guy *starts sweating* Okay, I love Dazai a lot! But! I’m not gonna be a Dazai apologist, the boy has done MANY things wrong, Yet, I find myself so invested in him, even though he’s one of the biggest asshole in the entire series. Characters with grey morality and complex issues that aren’t explored to their full potential in canon are some of my favorite character types, and Dazai is like my top choice for both of these. Also, he’s so much fun to dissect and break down into meta writing and just trying to understand his thinking is fascinating to me.Also, the man is really fucking pretty. 10/10, no matter what he’s wearing or what era it is
All the people I ship romantic with this character: Kunikida: As I said before, I’m a HUGE Kunikidazai shipper. I love how Dazai actually respects Kunikida and the man’s dreams and ideals. Dazai himself may be a pragmatist, but he loves the fact that Kunikida can still be this idealistic person even when the world kicks him down over and over. They just,,, have a wonderful relationship built of mutual trust and respect for each otherRanpo: These two are the closest in intelligence out of the ADA and both of them have a talent of being able to read people. I think they would have an interesting dynamic together.Fyodor: Purely for the aesthetic and dynamic that a relationship could bring. It wouldn’t be a 100% healthy relationship, but,,, blame the Callme RP circle and my love for ships where both people are so similar in some ways that it’s terrifying for this.Chuuya: Lowkey, but let it be known. The only reason that I started to really like them together was because someone brought up a Yokai & hunter AU and they said they didn’t know anything about yokai lore so they couldn’t talk about it and my yokai loving ass went: Hey!!!! I can write that!!!
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Oda: Their platonic relationship is super important to me. I just,,, really love itFukuzawa: Give me Fukuzawa being a good boss to Dazai and trying to be a positive role of authority in Dazai’s life after he worked with Mori the cuck.Yosano: Give me these two being drinking buddies and going to bars and having competitions with each other over who can have the most people respond positively towards their flirting.Hirotsu: Mafia granddad who still cares about Dazai after he left the mafia, I just really love it
My unpopular opinion about this character: We gotta stop with the thing that people do where they say that Dazai’s past actions are okay because he’s gotten better. Cause that ain’t how redemption works. Also, he isn’t the best written character in the series currently. Even though I can see how he easily could be written better.
One thing i wish would happen/ had happened with this character in canon: Let! Him! Fail! He needs to fall down a peg and he neds to know that he can be wrong! I’m kinda tired of the “It was all part of my keikaku all along!” bullshit(Translator note: Keikaku means plan)Also, can we have more time dictated to show how these problems that Dazai clearly has affects his day-to-day life? Like, show us that sometimes he’s too depressed to even get out of bed for work in the morning.
