It’s an incredible feat when Love touches hearts of like minds, and creates the most amazing bond sealed with the special words “I Do”. This very emotion is brought about in this latest single from former five time St. Lucian Groovy Soca Monarch Arthur Allain, as he tells his love story in song, composed to melt the hearts of love birds the world over, and become an anthem for weddings of all cultures. “I Do (forever)” is filled with captivating melodies, blending the vocals of Arthur and saxophone from talented St. Lucian saxophonist Rashaad Joseph. The music was produced by “The Audio Lab Productions”, of Vieux Fort, with co production by Yannick Plante of Minor Productionz as well as Arthur Allain. Danyl Daniel of FACE Media Productions did vocal production, with mixing and mastering by Minor Productionz. The team is fully St. Lucian with Arthur Allain also being the writer. The video was shot and directed by Kiedel Sonny, in the picturesque town of Soufriere, hometown to Arthur Allain. The music video follows a simple but beautiful story of two lovebirds, vacationing at the award winning Fond Doux Plantation Resort, on the path to be engaged against the beautiful backdrop of the majestic twin Pitons, at the lovely Crystals Hotel. The female love interest is played by 2018 Carnival Queen Earlyca Frederick. “I Do” is available for streaming and download on all digital platforms and the music video available on YouTube at the link below. This is the first of many singles from Arthur Allain as he preparesfor the 2020 Carnival season.

D'Artagnan.

" A selection of 20th century textile designs from the Silver Studio in London when produced under the direction of Rex Silver from 1901-1962.

Rex (Reginald ) Silver (1879 -1965) was the son of Arthur Silver (1853 -1896) the original founder of Silver Studios in 1880 who designed the iconic Hera Peacock feather design for furnishing fabric for Liberty in 1887.

What strikes me about two of these designs is that Winifred Mold 's work #1 is reminiscent of the work of the French designer Émile-Allain Séguy. and #4 by Mrs MacPherson suggests the work not only of Poiret's Atelier Martine but possibly the Wiener Werkstätte.

#7. Design for a carpet by Monsieur Dupont in 1929.height: 612mm width: 493mm

Dupont was apprenticed at the Silver Studio from 1929 - 1930 and sent some of his work to Rex Silver before arriving in England. This is an example of his work and the pattern consists of abstract palm tree-like shapes, in red, orange, brown, yellow and white, on a brown ground.

All Silver Studio designers worked to strict instructions from Rex Silver. His job as Director was to understand the technical and aesthetic requirements of the Studio's clients, who were major textile and wallpaper manufacturers. He also freely criticised and commented on the design work produced by his employees.

Winifred Mold (1894-?) worked as a designer for Silver Studios in London from 1912 to 1935. She is known for her florals and her Japanese-inspired patterns like the parasol print #3 Silver Studios Collection

Not a lot is known about her and as a woman designer she was at a distinct disadvantage ; particularly when in 1899 Silver Studios had advertised for designers with the comment "Ladies need not apply."

She and a few other women hired from 1912 were required to work from home. They never saw their male colleagues at work. Director Rex Silver conducted meetings with them in their home and discussed designs by correspondence , much of which is in the MoDa Museum archives.

N.B. government says amalgamation, tax change possible after local government reform

The New Brunswick minister responsible for local governance reform is looking to citizens for their input on changes they'd like to see in their community.

Daniel Allain says there are too many local governments right now, and he believes not all residents are getting equal access to services because of where they live.

"I think the time has come that we need reform," he said during a news conference Tuesday. "It's been 60 years that we haven't touched it. We've had over 25 studies."

Right now, the province is made up of:

8 cities, which include 37 per cent of the total population

26 towns, home to 17 per cent

61 villages; 10 per cent of population

8 rural communities, 3 per cent of population

1 regional municipality, 2 per cent of population

16 First Nations, 1 per cent of population

236 local services districts, 30 per cent of population

Allain says local service districts do not have mayors and councils, despite having 30 per cent of the overall population.

That's an issue, if those communities want to vote on something like a service sharing agreement.

The Town of Woodstock's mayor says he's found cooperation among the districts that surround Woodstock, but it can be difficult to come to a proper agreement.

"I think the number one thing in this whole process is going to be the full municipalization of the province," said Arthur Slipp. "Every local service district must be able to elect representatives in an election, and those duly elected representatives have to be able to have the power to negotiate and sign agreements to represent the wishes of the citizens of the local service districts. There's a number of files that municipalities could engage local service districts on, if they had the power to actually negotiate and conclude an agreement."

The executive director of the Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick is hopeful the consultation process will garner interest from all New Brunswickers.

"We've seen, for example, recent conversation about affordable housing and which level of government is responsible for that," said Margot Cragg. "Fundamentally, people don't necessarily know or care what level of government is responsible for any given task. They just want to see it done. But, of course, it does matter. It matters in taxation – who gets the tax revenues in order to provide those services? It matters in representation – who has a say in what the end outcome is going to look like? It matters in boundaries – who belongs in what community and who's included?"

She says what will be discussed during the upcoming consultations "affect all of us."

The department hasn't set dates for when virtual consultations will be held – but nothing is being ruled out – including amalgamations and changes to taxation.

"When restructured communities are put in place, there can be differential tax rates," said deputy minister Ryan Donaghy. "That is certainly possible going forward, but there are not decisions at this point."

Committees have been created to look over New Brunswickers' suggestions, and a final report is expected by the end of 2021.
