I think perhaps post canon 4th age redemption Sauron is my favorite!

But I treasure them all and I want to hug them and keep them safe and pat their heads!

I'm going to do follow up polls of what version of Sauron do you most like to read fanfic about (for fic readers), what version of Sauron do you most like to draw (for fan artists), and what version of Sauron do you most like to write (for fanfic writers). I'm curious :)

He has many names and all of them are beautiful (although it's a pain in the ass to put them all in the tags lol) but I love "Sauron" the most. I know it's meaning, but it sounds warm and solid to me, not cold and cruel. I blame my friend who used to love him with all her heart, showing me how complex and underrated that character was (although I think Tokien loved him very much). I know he hated that name too, but. Sorry, babe T_T I just love this name T_T

i really wish more folks would understand and accept this.

not only the puritanical misogynists who scream "but lore" as an excuse for their gatekeeping, but even the folks in our haladriel nation.

it's interesting to explore the possibility of sauron and galadriel having a cosmic connection in tolkien texts (the lady of the light x the dark lord, the lady of gifts x the lord of gifts, artanis x artano. too many parallels made by the linguist).

but in the end of the day, it doesn't matter! bc what tolkien created is a living mythology, so there is no canon that is set in stone there, only variations! he himself changed his lore several times, frequently creating the contradictory versions of the same thing.

it's like how it is in, for example, greek mythology. there are different versions of the same myths, bc mythology evolves and changes!

so yeah. one day, after lotr becomes public domain, some haladriel will adapt their valinor reunion au into a 7th age tv show and it will be valid.

i wish i could find where to get a cosplay like this lol, this one’s so good! bonus- Mairon’s one of my favorite characters. Well, I mean, Annatar’s just so good of a character, I mean, Gorthaur’s epic and I wish I could just go up and have people recognize me as the Necromancer, it would be so epic to walk up and have people say “Look, it’s Artano!” and, okok, I’ll stop.

It’s epic though, like, really good! i love it, good job Karachielandladyofbarians!

Also I put every name for Sauron (that isn’t a title, I ain’t putting all that out, it would be too long) in the tags because it’s funny >:D

I want to say that i am shaking while posting this because he is my favorite character ever and i am over emotional

I dislike Sauron/Galadriel ship (maybe because I didn't watch the series, idk), but for all of you, who ship them: I discovered something:

One of Galadriel's names, and her main name in Quenya, is Artanis.

One of Sauron's aliases in the Annatar period (yes, he used many), is Artano.

...call it a gift. ^^

Obsessed w Galadriel n Annatar’s dynamic during the eregion arc. Like, ik it says that he’s super nice to her, making her seem like a total biatch, but also I like to think there are a lot of underhanded insults esp in private or when they happen to bump into each other. He prob calls himself Artano just to piss her off. Lots of psychological warfare and lots of delicious tension

So I've been thinking about making up names again thanks to your wonderful transliteration post, and I just realised that I'd do Fintan's name into Quenya in probably one of the following ways. So if you would kindly allow me to drop some VERY dubiously constructed names into your inbox:

Findetan or Findetano (could be Findetamo) also with the meaning 'smith/wright of hair' (see: Artano, Ciryatan). Or, alternatively:

Finwatamo/Finwatano/Finwatan/Finyatamo/Finyatano/Finyatan/maybe even Fineatan or Fineatano (sounds suspiciously like Fintan and thus attracts me), meaning in some way 'clever/dexterous smith' (in reference to 'Curufinwe' and Fintan's Feanor-codedness, and also to the balefire crystals and the towers in Atlantis which would HAVE to have been a difficult and masterful feat).

And then maybe 'Ruinendo' or 'Narendo' (technically -endo is Telerin so a 'pure' form could be Ruinindyo or Narindyo though the Telerin sounds nicer to me), meaning 'descendant of fire/blaze/flame', as a second name? Again more allusions to being related to Feanor (or just Feanor himself), since it would be a sort of callback to 'Feanaro' in meaning. (Totally not a giveaway for him to be named Feanor but just a bit sideways........)

Token -finwe name but I have none because I love your construction for this one so much that there is nothing else at all it could possibly be!!

I could see both 1 and 2 going to 'Fintan' (since it sounds bad with 'd' as in 'Cirdan'), while 3 is just an attempt to do something with Pyren and I'm not too sure about which might be the mother-name and which the father-name....

ooh!!! i’ve only really thought about a fintan celegormion - so i’ve named him ahtafinwë ilinnáro, ilinnáro being a reference to balefire.

pyren, of course, is just a name fintan gave himself.

nonetheless, i do really like finyatano. i think it’s a great name.

» AN: Based on @fraeuleinfriedhof's autocorrect-inspired idea and @saintstars's wonderful art (here and here), I contribute this little but hopefully entertaining ficlet to the Goncharov/Mafia AU Angbang movement.

"Anything else you need, boss?" Mairon – also lovingly dubbed Maironi by other members of the organisation – asked after placing yet another neat stack of papers on the ever-messy desk of Aman's most infamous criminal. 

"Fire." Melkor's answer came without hesitation. He was lounging in an armchair facing the huge window nearby to oversee the city of Valmar down below and extended his left hand to show an unlit cigar. 

Dutiful as always, Mairon walked over and fished a lighter from his pocket, swiftly producing a tiny flame while Melkor raised the cigar to his lips. The cool fingers of his boss' right hand curled around his wrist just as smoke began to rise between the two, and his breath hitched in his throat. Was it fear that he felt, Mairon questioned himself, but the answer was no... instead he felt strangely excited. 

"Anything planned for Thanksgiving?" Melkor asked conversationally, his thumb caressing his palm. 

"I suppose not," Mairon responded. "I haven't seen my family in years." 

The flame continued to flicker until he finally remembered that he was indeed still holding the lighter. 

Melkor smirked, seemingly pleased. "Neither do I." 

He took a deep drag, then let his hand drop and his head fall backwards to exhale. Mairon caught himself staring at his lips, ashen and beautifully shaped, promising kisses of death and oblivion. 

"Maybe we should celebrate together," Melkor said then, though his expression held a certain mocking irony. 

Nevertheless, Mairon decided to play along, slipping around the back of the chair to sit on its armrest – and put his physique on display, accentuated by the expensive suit he was wearing. 

"I didn't know you cared for such festivities," he said, his voice laced with matching irony; he would play coy, but not pretend to be stupid. 

Melkor's gaze wandered across his thighs appreciatively, then he grinned up at him. "Oh, I don't. But I thought perhaps... I should thank you for all you do for me?" 

And with that, his free hand snaked around his waist and came to rest on his hips. Mairon's face lit up triumphantly; he was finally getting exactly what he wanted and possibly much more still. 

"How flattering, boss. And such a tempting offer," he said, batting his eyelashes. 

"Indeed." Melkor pulled him onto his lap and brought the cigar to his lips. Ever eager to please, Mairon made a show out of closing his lips around it and savouring the smoke, though it was but a paltry imitation of what he truly desired. 

"Good boy," Melkor purred in his ear. "Now look out of the window."

Mairon did. Valmar, everyone who lived in the city, the entirety of Aman that lay beyond... it all either belonged to Melkor already or would do so soon. And then he saw his own reflection in the glass, sitting on his boss' lap and leaning against him like a pretty little pet, and realised with a surge of wild desire that he was Melkor's as well.
