Steel Legion vs Chaos Titans and Heldrakes.
Is this art new, or is it from an earlier book?

I picked up the Krieg box recently to supplement my humble pile of Armageddon Steel Legion guys, and decided to test out my conversion process on an artillery crewman.
Basically, to get from a Kriegsman to a Steel Legionnaire, I:
1.) File the crest/ridge off the top of the helmet
2.) Shave the puttees down to boots
3.) Shorten the barrel of the lasgun to a carbine configuration (nothing can easily be done about the stock, sadly)
4.) Carefully cut the space between the two eye holes in the gas mask, so it's more of a monolens goggle.
The end result is subtle, but fairly convincing. Steel Legion don't typically rock the shoulderpads and backpacks, but the former helps give a spot to put the regimental insignia and number.

(Story: Guardsman dies but won’t pass on)
A shovel blade sunk into the dirt, gloved hands reached down and pried up earth and tossed it aside. The gloved hands belonged to a guardsman; their uniform was stained with mud, gore, bile, faded under countless suns, ripped by claws and punctured by bullets.
They grunted softly, sinking the blade back into the dirt and tossing it away again into a pile nearby. They were in pain. Their muscles ached from miles of marching, endless drills, their gear battered and worn still weighed down on everything they did like sin
But they still had a duty.
So they dug. The “shunking” sound of dirt and rock offered reprieve from the awful roar of artillery lines, the screams from medicae tents, the pounding of boots on dirt in lock step, the shouting of commissars. Then they heard something other than all of that.
“Guardsman?” An old man called out to them.
The soldier stabbed into the dirt like a kill blow from their bayonet, and stopped to look behind them. The old man leaned on a stick, old brown robe had a hood pulled over a pale gaunt face’s eyes.
“What are you doing?”
‘Digging’ they said
“Why?” The old man asked
‘It’s my duty. Go home, old man, it isn’t safe on the line.’
“Line? What line?” The old man muttered, his head lazily drifting from left to right as he spoke
‘The front line, old man. The front line of the war for our very survival’ the Guardsman explained, turning their eyes back to their shovel and continuing to dig
“What war?” The old man asked, taking a few shaky steps towards the Guardsman
‘The war for our right to exist. Against the Xenos, the Heretic, anything that raises banner against the Master of Mankind.’ The guardsmen continued to dig. If this man wanted to die on the line, so be it, just another one for the sandbag corps.
“How tiring.” The old man groaned
The guardsman could see the old man in their paranoia trained peripheral sight, but paid him no mind. A silence formed between them so dreadfully perfect, sans the sounds of the shovel prying
“… do you hear them, guardsman?”
“Hear what?” The guardsman asked, still digging
“The guns? The marching?”
The guardsman stopped again. They sighed heavy as their duty
“No. I don’t.”
“Then why do you still dig?”
“… I need to get back to the front.”
“Why?”
“The line is my home. My duty.”
“Duty?”
“My duty to protect mankind. To hold the line in the face of danger.” They began to dig again, the pile of dirt steady growing larger
“Aren’t you tired?”
The old man took a few slow, gingerly steps towards the guardsman. It was as if he was afraid to startle them, knowing they could see him even when they weren’t looking
“Of course I am. But it doesn’t matter.”
“Why not?”
“Only in death does duty end, Ro-“
“Roboute Guilliman, primarch of the 13th legion of angels. I know him well.”
The guardsman sank the shovel into the dirt, and the old man placed a decrepit hand on theirs. They stopped cold, the guardsman looking at the man
“Your duty is finished. Please, stop.”
“But… but the line-“
“The line will hold. Rest, soldier…”
The guardsman lets go of their shovel. It stands for a moment, before falling down with a pathetic “thump” into the little pile. They look at the old man, who meets their gaze with nought but empathy and remorse. He motions with his staff away somewhere unseen, arm wrapping gently around the Guardsman’s. They didn’t protest, they followed the old man, shedding their gear like lead weights and letting them drop into the grass

I just realized I haven’t shown any photos of the 40k mini’s I’ve been building
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These were the first ever minis I got. They turned out way better then I expected them to for my first project. I’m really happy with them. I got the Krieg minis from the Killteam Starter Set and painted them as Armageddon Steel Legion since they’re my favorite guard regiment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is this Rogal Dorn mini. I was originally gonna get a Baneblade, but it was too expensive so I settled for a Rogal Dorn instead. Stuck to the Armageddon scheme with a dark grey with yellow stripes. I think I could’ve done the stripes better, but I’m happy with the mini.

*Muffled explosion in the distance* "Hah, told you I could shoot a grenade into the mouth of a greenskin. Now watch me dome that grot over there with this next one." Trooper Zarowe, being very enthusiastic about blowing up Orks.
***
When I said I was done with painting Guard, I was very much in the wrong. Because here's another one.
One of the quickest things I've painted. Had to strip it because of bad shading, but the second attempt with down in just a few scant hours during the same evening.
Honestly don't like painting metal minis, for various reasons (and yet I still have a bunch of metal Kasrkin to paint). But this one was sent to me by a friend a few years ago and I suddenly remembered I had it in a box.

Armageddon Steel Legion for 11th ed
For some reason I have just a feeling that the Armagededdon Steel Legion will get what Cadia got in 9th and if rumours are true Krieg will get during 10th especially if the latter is true. Much that was brought into the game during Codex: Armagededdon becoming plastic with some new things to go along with it.
Tumblr media
Now some of the bits here I am putting are matching it with free index card info from that GW put out so if there was changes I can't find it, as well no idea what changes when the 10th ed codex comes out. Armagededdon Steel Legion keyword units: -Armagededdon Steel Legionnaire, the baseline unit to use. -Armagededdon Steel Legion Command Squad, leads Armagededdon Steel Legionnaires. New things added - Armagededdon Veteran Commissars, Commissars that have fought the more intense battles of the Armageddon wars they have to honour the greatest of them removed their arm after killing an Ork to take their Power Klaw as their own, lead Armagededdon Steel Legionnaries, Armagededdon Ork Hunters. -General Pious Korren, one of their greatest Tank Commanders gets a model that is one to go along with his Shadowsword the Iron Saint giving it a boost, he has also per the wishes of a great hero the Baneblade Fortress of Arrogance.
So new units to get added but don't have the keyword, even though in the lore are part of it like Ursula Creed and Kasrkin don't have the Cadia Keyword even though are part of it in the story. Neutral Guard Keywords Armagededdon Ork Hunters, starting off as a kill team, they would act very much like how one would use the jungle fighters but come with some very good anti-ork skills with the AVC brining out 120 percent of their potential.
Tumblr media
Adelaide Von Strab, the out of wedlock daughter of Herman Von Strab, the 2 cared little for each other, the only she liked was using this connection to allow her to take the officer test to become a Tank Commander. Her skill then got her the position, and the Honours. During one battle she saved the life of Arcadian Leontus, and the two grew close, with this closeness having Herman give her the Von Strab name officially though it didn't mean anything to her. This name did one time bring trouble by the Inquisition after Herman Von Strab betrayal though was proven innocent, is still watched. She would be basically a better Tank commander for the Leman Russ. For look and personality
Tumblr media
So there are 2 more units 1 is Armagededdon connected. One would be Priests of "Saint" Grimaldus but these could be Black Templars, or maybe even Agents of the Imperium if church members are added to it. The other is Savlar Chem Dogs as units, however unlike the the Ork Head Hunters which could be seen to the Steel Legion as what Kasrkin are to Cadia these would be their own/neutral.
Will go more detail with everything but I kind of want to see first somethings like if Agents of the Imperium is the unknown codex, and if Krieg will be in 10th. But from here what do people think? Any suggestions on things that should/could be added?

Commissar Dukane asked which War for Armageddon SGM Morrow actually fought in and he replied "the only one that matters"....
Now what could he mean by that?
...
More fuel for my "He fought in the First one, vs Angron's forces" theory, with Inquisitor Grendyl rescuing him from the purges afterword.

The 62nd Regiment of the Armageddon Steel Legion’s 6th Army, having broken out of Ork encirclement, was forced to move through a narrow defile into the positively Ork-infested Equatorial Jungles. Trapped, and with no true hope of relief anytime soon, they hunkered down and began a desperate guerrilla campaign. They quickly acclimatized to their new, brutal reality of jungle warfare against the hordes of Orks. Fighting such a deathly struggle in a 'vast green inferno' (as the regiment's commander, Colonel Lotar Seytz, put it) also had tolls both psychic and physical: many understandably broke under the strains of shell-shock. When finally relieved, their rescuers found them almost unrecognizable, almost more Ork than man in aspect and demeanor.
These are miniatures for a collaborative modeling and writing project called Ashes of Armaggedon, ran by deathofarubricist/apologist. You can find the blog for the project here.

Veteran Sergeant Katra van Blaze, Arcadian 4th Marine Infantry Regiment "Devilbacks", day 128 of the siege of Khan Senhi combat base by Heretic Guard forces, Evioc Eleven campaign.
*** Who knew that Catachan take very well to be painted as Vietnam Marines. Now GW just needs to release a new infantry kit for them and I'd be willing to do more of them.
Also, realised earlier that I have now painted up Minka Lesk, Severina Rayne and now Ripper Jackson all with non-caucasian skin tones. Without even planning to do so.
Otherwise, biggest hassle was freeing her cybernetic leg from the overly elaborate base it came attached to. It took some careful scalpel work, but got it off without too much damage to the model. Or the base bits. Really wish they would stop doing that. It's annoying.
Beyond that, very uncomplicated project, beyond me having to strip the bolter after painting it, because it turns out it won't assemble properly with paint on it due to how the kit has been split up. Which was slightly annoying to find out.
Also I spent way too much time trying to figure out how to do the proper reddish brown tint of the soil.

Away from home for a couple days, obviously no minis to paint
So I killed some time and drew something about an underrated army that GW almost forgot about and that I almost picked as my first before I settled for the marines
