Since I've been seeing chatter on Wonder Woman's depiction in the DCAU a lot lately, here's my Top 9 WW Villains in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series!

#9 - Doctor Cyber She's sadly nothing more than a glorified cameo, and the most we see of her is actually a training hologram. She looks great, though, and I applaud the show for using an underutilized but very cool WW villain in any capacity.

#8 - Medusa Like Cyber, Medusa is pretty much a cameo. But unlike Medusa, she gets some spotlight in a decently memorable scene. I do love the idea of her hanging out with Circe in the Underworld, though.

#7 - Angle Man Another cameo villain, but even though he's almost exclusively seen in group shots, Angle Man at least had a voice line AND got an action figure!

#6 - Hades The God of the Underworld is given three episodes as the big bad, but it just doesn't make sense. Hades is almost never a villain in the comics, and now we have this show to blame for everyone thinking he's one of the top tier WW villains. He should have been Ares.

#5 - Cheetah Ugh, where to even begin. This portrayal of Cheetah has largely contributed to the overall idea that Cheetah isn't worthy of being WW's archenemy. Because the show does nothing with her. And instead of using her cool comic backstory, they steal Batman villain Orca's.

#4 - Ares He's only given one episode and it's almost entirely about Hawk and Dove, so... it's not great. But I'm a sucker for handsome blonde Ares, so I'm glad they kept that aspect. He definitely should have been given Hades's role.

#3 - Circe She's fabulous in the show, but the main problem is... Diana barely interacts with her at all! And instead of seeing a great WW vs. Circe episode, we get Batman saving the day YET AGAIN. Circe and her fans deserve better.

#2 - Aresia An "evil Wonder Woman" is a cool idea that HAS been done in the comics, but the show decides to create the new character Aresia. While I wish they had adapted a different character with similar motives (Dalma, Orana, Clea), Aresia is actually pretty fascinating.

#1 - Giganta The writers seemed to love Giganta even if they didn't love having her interact with Diana. She's fun and flirty unlike her main comic version, but she still manages to have some really attention-grabbing action sequences. She also looks great!

Heroes & Villains The DC Animated Universe - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles

Aresia

Aresia was just a child when her family attempted to flee from a war-torn country.  Their ship was attacked by pirates and sank.  Aresia was the sole survivor, saved by the ship’s captain who used all his strength to swim her to a nearby island.  This island turned out to be Themyscira, home of the Amazons.  The captain died from exhaustion after brining the child to shore.  Queen Hippolyta was witness to this act and she chose to honor the captain’s sacrifice by burying his body on Themyscira.  In that he was a man, however, this burial was kept a closely guarded secret. 

Young Aresia was taken in by the Amazons and raised as one of their own.  She trained alongside her Amazon sisters, becoming a fierce and shrewd warrior.  She knew that she had originated from the land of men, but did not know of the circumstances of how she arrived on Themyscira nor how the captain had sacrificed himself to save her.  Although she was happy on Themyscira, Aresia still harbored great pain and anger over the death of her family.  Her anger intensified, culminating in a desire to rid the world of all men.  

Utilizing sacred texts, Aresia devised a toxic formula that, when released into the atmosphere ,would sicken and eventually kill all human males while leaving human females and all other species unharmed.  She then secretly left Themyscira and traveled to the world of men where she recruited a new iteration of the Injustice League to help her steal the various components she needed for her deadly formula.  

The villains Aresia gathered did not know the full details of her plan; indeed the male members did not know they were acting to seal their own fate.  Early exposure to the toxin sickened these villains along with the male members of the Justice League.  Only Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman were left unaffected and it was up to them to put a stop to Aresias deadly scheme.  

Queen Hippolyta attempted to dissuade Aresia.  She told her of the captain who had saved her life many years ago, demonstrate to her that not all men were evil and deserving of death.  Yet Aresia's mind could not be changed and she attempted to release missiles that would aerosol her deadly toxic all throughout the planet’s atmosphere.  Fortunately, Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl prevailed in stopping her.  Aresia refused to be rescued and she perished when her aircraft crashed into the ocean.  

Actress Julie Bowen provided the voice for Aresia with he tragic villainess first appearing in the fourteenth episode of the first season of Justice League, ‘Fury.’

LoZ - "Lesbian-Coded" Gerudo

I read that someone called the Gerudo "lesbian-coded" & I just...

You think that a race of women who only get 1 man a century that still need men to reproduce, who travel the length of Kyoto to locate a man, who have all these superstitions surrounding finding one's true love (specifically men), who fantasize about meeting a man to love, specifically one that fits the description of a very traditionally western concept of masculinity, is lesbian-coded?

I mean, go off, hc what you want, but the fact is that a society in their situation would almost be pigeonholed into being both homophobic & transphobic.

They don't have the luxury to be progressive feminists.

Mhmm, yes. "Lesbian-coded."

Totally not projecting.

However, if true, then it would certainly explain why the Gerudo's population is forever so low. Like, endangered species low.

Now, I don't doubt that lesbian Gerudo exist, but the idea of the Gerudo, as a whole, being lesbian-coded is ridiculous. And the idea of lesbian Gerudos being automatically accepted is even more so.

Now that I think about it... You know what'd make for a cool future Zelda baddy? An Aresia-type villain. Just an outright unapologetically misandistic witch. With only a handful of other Gerudo who follow her, while the rest are utterly perplexed by how this happened only to eventually have to confront the fact that their own male exclusionary tendencies may have contributed to it.

More Wonder Woman 

Diana’s decision to act as Wonder Woman and fight for justice in the world man was in direct opposition of the wishes of her mother, Queen Hippolyta.  Diana’s relationship with her mother became even more strained when she and the Justice League had saved all of Themyscira from the machinations of Felix Faust.  In so doing, Diana had allowed human men to set foot on Themyscira and for this Diana was banished from the isle.

Diana and her mother reconciled after Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl had saved Hippolyta from the rogue Amazonian, Aresia; yet their relationship remained somewhat strained and Diana spent nearly all of her time in the world of man fighting alongside the League.  

Many years later, Diana was summoned back to Themyscira to defeat Faust after the villain had succeeded in overthrowing Hades as the ruler of Tartarus.  Once more aided by Hawkgirl, Wonder Woman succeeded in the mission.  Herein, she discovered that Hades was in effect her father; that it was his magic that allowed Hippolyta to breath life into the infant form of Diana that she had sculpted from clay.  Having defeated Faust and restored order in Tartarus, Hippolyta decreed that her daughter was no longer exiled from Themyscira.

Actress Susan Eisenberg provided the voice for Wonder Woman with the Amazonian heroine first appearing in the second episode of the first season of Justice League, ‘Secret Origins Part II.’

Summary: He snapped his fingers and he thought that was the end of it. Right after, Tony finds himself in a place that by all logic should not exist. That isn't his main issue, though. His main issue is the person he finds there waiting for him and the accompanying feeling that he somehow failed.

Summary: Aresia and Gilrn are two Asgardian children who happen to stumble upon the crown prince, Thor, and his mortal love, Jane, during her visit. She leaves quite an impression on young Aresia.

Based off of the deleted scene where Jane is determined to analyze the contents of an Asgardian ball.

Summary: Wanda has her way of getting inside people's heads, in the literal sense. She makes everyone see a part of their past that they can no longer have, a cut deep enough that it can not heal. Steve is shown a life where he'd successfully landed the plane and made it back to Brooklyn. Finding himself back in Bucky's arms.

A what if scenario based off of a scene that was originally discussed to be in AOU. Instead of the vision Steve has about Peggy, it's him and Bucky getting an apartment together.

The Scene That Should Have Been (ao3) - goldenrazzmatazz T, 1k

Summary: At SDCC 2019, The Russo Brothers explained that they had originally planned for Thanos to kill 2014 Captain America, and use his severed head to taunt the remaining Avengers during the final battle in 2023.

Written in a way that it still canonically fits within the film, this is my imagining of that scene. Spoilers for the final battle of Avengers: Endgame.

"Again."

Gritting her teeth, Aresia stood, pushing herself up with her sword. The storm around her raged, feeling like a mirror of her frustration. She spat the bloody spittle from her mouth - she didn't remember biting her tongue, but this seemed the day for stupid mistakes like that - and watched the wind snatch it up, adding it to the torrent that raged around her.

"Why?" She looked up, fixing her father with a glare. He met her cold blue eyes with his red ones, his face showing no sign of it affecting him. He had shed his godly stature for the height he had had as a mortal, which meant that he was merely imposing as opposed to towering. "Are you trying to prove it to me? That I'm not ready?"

Her father pulled a sword from the air and fell into a defensive stance. "Stop posturing, Aresia. You are frustrated with yourself. Channel that frustration through your blade, not through empty words." He regarded her, and in that moment, his relaxed demeanour drove her past her boiling point. With a yell, she ran at him, determined to at least bloody him this time-

"Again."

Aresia found herself looking up at the storm above, lying flat on her back with her limbs splayed. Tears stung her eyes as she replayed how she got there. Her efforts this time had been nothing short of humiliating. She forced herself to sit up, slumping forward and falling in on herself as she did so. Her eyes found her sword to her right, but she made no move to pick it up. Shame choked her, and she closed her eyes to try and stop the hot tears that were leaking from them.

She felt her fathers hand on her shoulder. There was no insistence behind it, no guiding movement, simply a reminder that he was there. They remained like that for a long while, her crying, him lending comfort with his presence.

This was not the first time they had shared a moment like this. Her father was a stern teacher, and his methods drove her to frustration often. Every time, she expected him to get angry, to chastise her for her emotional outbursts. And yet, unlike every other person she had endured instruction from, he offered her the ability to feel. It still surprised her, sometimes.

In time, her tears dried up, leaving her sitting on the clouds to recover. She stole a glance at her father, and found him sitting more comfortably by her side, hand still on her shoulder. It was moments like these in which she felt most connected to him. In which she felt if she called him father, he would not correct her. At least, not immediately.

She understood why. Her father was, above all else, a god. Every god that survived the Mortal War agreed to the Covenant, an agreement forbidding the murder of the gods, and prohibiting the gods from consorting with mortals. Of course, every god broke the second rule almost immediately, her father included. However, Aresia knew that he had done that for duty. Initially, she had considered him callous for breaking the covenant for duty, rather than for the children he had decided to take in and train, but as she had grown older, that had changed.

"Does it truly bother you so much, Aresia? That I have sent Omir on his path through the world while you still train?" Her father's voice was calm as the wind, which had stilled as they had sat in silence.

Aresia could not help but scowl at the mention of her brother. Yes, he was three years her senior at 18, but had the same lack of self-control he had as a ten year old. "He's a hothead, sir. Always has been. It feels unfair that I need to go through another hundred inane training sessions while he gets to go and experience the world for himself."

"I see." Her father's face furrowed as he took the time to contemplate her words. When he spoke, his words had adopted his 'teaching' cadence, a tone she was both grudgingly fond and intensely tired of.

"When you find yourself dealing with a young wyvern that is both abundant in energy and lacking in discipline, how do you teach it to behave?"

Aresia stopped herself from rolling her eyes. The fact that she, an orphan, still got to hear all about the various behavioural patterns of a wyvern from her father, just like every other child with Tholionic parents, seemed proof that fate both existed and served to deliver punchlines. "I don't know, sir. How do you teach unruly wyverns to behave?"

"You...," he paused to give her shoulder a slight shake, smiling gently as he did so, "let it run and fly around for a while, going every which way, only stopping it when it explicitly does things that are forbidden. Then, when it has tired itself out, you start teaching it in earnest."

"So what you're saying is that my brother is a hyperactive wyvern hatchling. Sounds about right." Aresia grinned, feeling at ease with the explanation.

"Aye. You, on the other hand, do not lack the level-headedness he has yet to learn. No. What you lack, young lady, is self-mastery. You are skilled, and have the ability to approach situations with calm and strategic thought, but you let your emotions get the better of you. Omir does not yet try to control himself, whereas you have yet to master holding on to that control."

"Bollocks." Aresia swore softly as she realized where this was going. "You want me to get frustrated, don't you?"

"Language, Aresia. You are not yet a soldier, and therefore are not allowed to curse like one." Her father removed his hand from her shoulder and stood. "But yes. I have found that there are few things that challenge self-mastery quite as effectively as tedious, repetitive sparring drills."

Aresia sighed and repeated the phrase that had been hammered into her mind relentlessly since she was first given a sword. "Every warrior must master themself, and mastery of oneself comes through self-control."

"Good to hear that you do remember my teachings, sometimes." Her father proffered a hand, and pulled her to her feet when she took it. Their eyes met, and in them, Aresia could see the same pain she felt, deep in her chest. The pain born from the wish to acknowledge the bond they shared, while knowing they cannot do so.

Her father, she had grown to understand, did not wish to be callous. In fact, she believed that, if he had the choice, he would gladly drop the pretence that she was anything less than his daughter. But her father was a man bound by duty, and she understood that part of that duty was balancing his responsibilities as the god of war and his oath to obey the covenant. If he acknowledged her as anything more than a favoured member of his Legion, he risked being forced to question his devotion to duty. She had also grown to understand that said devotion was the only thing keeping him from collapsing under the weight of what he was forced to be.

And if, by denying herself the ability to call him father anywhere outside her head, she helped in carrying that burden for him, well. It would be a pittance compared to the debt she owed him for his love. She smiled at him. "More than sometimes, Tholnair."

He smiled back, a rare smile that fully reached his eyes. Reaching down, he grabbed her sword, holding the hilt toward her. "Good. Now, again."

She took the hilt in her hand, feeling the weight of it. Then she nodded.

"Again."

Earth, Air, Water, Fire, the four elements that build the world. Long ago, they all lived in harmony but then a great tragedy stuck. The great Amazonian Queen Hippolyta of the Fire Nation died by asphyxiation. The council said that the Kryptonian air monks were responsible for the assination of their ruler. Tensions further rose between the two peoples when the Kryptonian denied all accusations. Then the storm stuck. On The Day of the Red Sun, when the Kryptonians were powerless, the Amazonian general Aresia attacked the powerless people killing thousands and staining the ground red with blood. Upon her return to the Amazonian capital, she demanded that the council allow her to succeed Queen Hippolyta. However, all was not lost. It was said that before his death, Jor-El was able to send his son away from the massacre.
