The Courtyard Office in Chhattisgarh

Architecture: Sanjay Puri Architects
Location: Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India
Photos © Mr. Dinesh Mehta
The Courtyard Office, India
The Courtyard Office is a linear office space twists organically in plan, creating a large landscaped courtyard within it.
Varying from two to four levels sectionally, the office floors are lifted from the ground at the southwest and northeast sides to facilitate a south-westerly breeze through the courtyard.
The northeast and northwest corners of the building are also lifted, creating singular large volumes at both ends to allow visual contact between floors, where a cafeteria and a library are housed.
The circulation spine skirts the internal courtyard, allowing the landscape to be visible while moving through the office and the work areas, skirting the external periphery opening towards external gardens.
The building shape generates its longest sides oriented towards the north, with angled louvers on the other faces directing the internal spaces northwards. The orientation allows indirect light throughout the day into all of the internal spaces, rendering the building energy efficient.
The courtyard office derives its principles from traditional Indian courtyard houses, resulting in office spaces that vary in volume and in orientation, allowing open spaces to be integrated with enclosed ones, and creating energy-efficient workspaces.

THE HARAPPAN CULTURE & ITS PROGRESS & DOWNFALL OF THE CIVILIZATION.
The Harappa and Mohan Jo Daro in the twenties of this century unfolded an Urban civilization of the third millennium BC. In the Indus Valley Archaeologists are trying to trace its origin, identify its architects and ascertain the circumstances leading to its decline and end. Before any evidence of its origin and end could be found the partition of the Indian sub-continent took place in 1947 and none of the Indus (Harappa) settlements were left in the post partition India, which had inherited the Indus civilization.
Although the political partition of the Indian sub-continent into Pakistan and India deprived the latter of prized side of its earliest civilization. The processes of transformation of a rural environment into sophisticated Urban culture, gradually unfolding it self with the excavation of the pre-Harappan sites such as Kalibangan & Surkotada in India & Mehrgarh, Amri & Kot - Diji in Pakistan. The break through in deciding the Indus script and identifying its language has also been possible by tracing the evolution of a partly pictorial writing into a simplified phonetic writing in the late level of Lothal, Rojdi and other sites. Cursive writing gets further confirmation from the seal inscription of the late level of Harappa and Mohan - Jo - Daro excavated by Dales in 1964 to 1966 and 1986 to 1988 respectively. The cultural ingratiation of the fire - worshiping & animal sacrifice - offering Harappans with the animals - venerating & tree - worshiping folk in the cosmopolitan cities of Harappa, Mohan - Jo - Daro, Lothal, Kalibangan and Banawali is now quit apparent from the seals and cult objects. They built the first dockyard of the world and contributed in no small measure to facilitate international trade by introducing their weight unit and script in Bahrain & Oman. They were the first to have a decimal graduation for linear measurement and for weighing mass. As a highly disciplined people they developed a system of disciplining the mind and the body through YOGA, which is now acclaimed as highly beneficial to mankind.
From the limited information extracted from the dumb archaeological finds it is observed that the Indus civilization was one of the most advanced civilization of the world. Its contribution to the human progress is of no mean order, the Indus people introduced the decimal system and provided a base of standardizing weights and measures. They gave the world the science of YOGA. The pottery with design on the pot, was extremely high level of colors which was painted on the pottery which found different sides which excavated in Pakistan or in India. In Gujarat many important sites are like Lothal, Kalibangan, Rangpur, etc, which give the information not only the design but the Harappan civilization people, as we know the different periods like Harappan, and late Harappan, and Calcolathic period, pottery were discovered in different sites in India. The present semi- arid condition of north Gujarat, specially Ahmadabad, Mehsana and Palanmpur district, may not be a recent phenomenon. Its seems to be in during the post Harappan, if not then late Harappan days. The excavations at Zekhada in Radhanpur taluka of Palunpur district and Kanaval in Kheda district have thrown some light on the dessication process of North Gujarat. Late Harappan sites have been discovered by K.N.Momin, in Kheda district of Gujarat. The artifacts indicate the mature Harappan beakers like “S” shapped vessels and weights are lacking but some sturdy redware jars in Kaniwal, Nar and gudal may belong to last phase of matured Harappan culture which we noticed in Rangpur II A. Presence of lustrous redware even with in 1.5 millimeter thick deposit indicated the arrival of the post Harappan Folk on the scene. The spread of the Harappan culture in central Gujarat like Ahmadabad, Maharashtra, Kutch, mostly the mouth of the river valley. Like Lothal the same Harappan site was discovered the present auther Dr R.M. Mirchandani in Dhadhuka Taluka village Vagad, which is also very rich Harappan site, 400 meter mount measure, 400 length and width.
The excavation was conducted by the department of Archaeology (M.S.University - Vadodara) with the guidelines of Prof. R.N. Mehta from small scale of excavation 30 - 40 meter depth the three unbreakable jars were discovered from the excavation. These 3 jars and kiln and gold ring was also excavated from the same site (VAGAD) all the jars and the kiln are kept in department of Archaeology (museum) in M.S.University of Vadodara. In Ahmadabad district totally 120 Harappan sites and calcolathic potteries and tools also discovered from this Ahmadabad district. Lothal town shrank in size with the migration of people after another below was stuck by the flooding waters in Sirca 900BC. This ended the Harappan life of Lothal people who run better to safer places and settle in the interior of the Saurashtra in small groups. They were joint by the flood striken refugees from the lower Indus valley who initially made small temporary settlement, at river mouth all along the coast of Saurashtra and South Gujarat and gradually moved into the interior and establish larger villages, towns and market places. The fast accumulating evidence from the fresh excavation of Indus cities that suggest that it is not invention, but natural calamity and terminating - ecological conditions which contributed to the decay of the Harrapan towns and cities.
The Indus civilization creation, sustains, destruction of the universe which is beautifully expressed by their immediate successor namely the Vedic Aryan in several Hymns of the Ragveda.

Yahvi Bungalow in Vadodara, #India by Usine Studio @usine_studio. Read more: Link in bio! Photography: Tejas Shah @tejasshahphotography. The 7,500 sq.ft. bungalow stands peerless, amidst low-rise apartment stacks in 15000 sq.ft of plot area. And for that very reason, the house is an introverted built mass, of brick and occasional RCC, such that all the internal spaces look constantly into its many green pockets. The front façade comprising of a parking space and a full-time, home-run office effectively walls off the exterior from the interior courtyards. The traditional brick statement is challenged in almost every space while the interiors remain simple and progressive. #casa #vadodara #архитектура www.amazingarchitecture.com ✔ A collection of the best contemporary architecture to inspire you. #design #architecture #amazingarchitecture #architect #arquitectura #luxury #realestate #life #cute #architettura #interiordesign #photooftheday #love #travel #construction #furniture #instagood #fashion #beautiful #archilovers #home #house #amazing #picoftheday #architecturephotography #معماری (at Vadodara, Gujarat, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSN6DxMsLJD/?utm_medium=tumblr
