#Applekin Family

Since Mapleshade mostly targets the applekin, would she have hypothetically tried to go for silverstream and possibly Stormier, assuming she was aware of them?

She did go after Silverstream. She got her, even. Interesting that she went into premature labor on Sunningrocks, so far away from a Cleric, isn't it?

And all of Mistyfoot's damn children too-- she was able to drown Perchkit young, but then that damn orange blister and his fuzzy-headed fleabag plucked Reedkit and Pikekit from the river.

But that's okay. She can be patient.

And she can set a fuzzy-minded fool on her path away from camp, right into the paws of Tigerclaw, to reveal an old secret. She can make sure he witnesses the saving of old Bluestar, too. What good ammo for accusations such a situation makes.

Stormpaw, Featherpaw, Mistyfoot, Stonefur. All of the Applekin, in one spot, in a cage built by TigerClan. She was SO close to wiping them all out at once. She had to settle with Pikepaw, making sure his murderers were never identified, and Primrosepaw later by the same, unknown killers.

But the last one, Reedwhisker... he was too lucky for her. Too pious. She kept pulling him into the river, and he kept pulling himself out. Or BEING pulled out. And he was too clever with his own kits, though he was emotionally distant, he made sure both of them knew how to call to their ancestors... in ways both dark and light.

One of them, at some point, certainly took the flesh of an adder to set Frecklewish on her. Like a guard dog. How DARE they!!

Mapleshade can't see Stormfur, so far away, but she does slobber maliciously at Graypaw, Mistpaw, and Frostpaw. Curlfeather and Podlight would be a bonus, if she could find some way to get rid of them.

And that's where she's at, now.

🍎 The Apple Mage 🍎

Is a game I’m currently conceptualizing and developing about an Applekin named Red, and her quest to save her Granny from the evil Doctor Cyanides clutches!

Here’s all of the protagonists lined up!

🍎 Red was "picked" from the Great Tree by a hermit she likes to call Granny Smith. She's a lover of all things magic after growing up in the presence of a literal master. She aims to be just like her when she grows up but she’s a little clumsy with her magic. Hey, she's trying her best! The rhythm of the earth is a just a little hard to follow sometimes! (Did I mention magic is dance based? It is) She cares a ridiculous amount about family and isn’t quite as meek as she looks when it comes to protecting the people she cares about! She’s not always happy though. Lately, she’s been plagued with dreams of other lives.

🍏 Granny The locals though seem to think Granny is just a weird reclusive hermit, but she knows much more about things than she lets on. She protects the Great Tree, the tree that births all Applekin and also the one that grants them their “immortality” through a kind of reincarnation. It has to be protected because without it, Applekin cease to exist. She’s also incredibly overbearing to Red, and a lot overprotective. It seems like her priorities are straight at least, but there’s definitely a few loose screws in there! She’s your typical eccentric grandma.

😞 Despite Granny’s pleas for her not to leave home, Red still wants to go out there and learn how to master magic! She enrolls in a school that can teach her just how. Magic comes naturally to all Applekin, but an Apple Mage makes it their whole life's work to study the inner workings of their magic.

Synopsis

(I’m really trying to not spoil anything here!)

When Red is caught in an earthquake on the way to her first day of classes, she rushes back home to check on granny. What she finds leads her into a quest to find her grandma, and ultimately save the world.

She also meets these cool characters 👀

😤 Crabby is a jaded manager of a family diner. She's always craved adventure though, and doesn't care for food service. She's the kinda person to fight rather than flee, and sometimes she picks the fights too!

👶 Jonagold is a lil cutie who got lost in the scuffle of the earthquake from his mother. He joins the team to find her, and tries to master his premature magic powers on the way.

And there's a lot more! There's only so much I can really say without spoiling it, so just want to share the general idea with everyone because I love this thing! It's been through a lot of medium changes, it was first a show pitch and then a comic and now l've just decided to make a whole rpg about it! It'll be in development for years to come but want people to be excited for it, so I post art and things for it from time to time just to keep folks interested!

Graystripe has 8 kids now. Jesus. Graykin/Silverkin is a pretty big family. Applekin is even bigger now, too. As is Fallowkin, especially now with Swankit/Swancall surviving long enough to have kits.

Graykin grandkids are: Singing Lark, Clinging Pine, Rustling Breeze* Swimming Trout, Flipclaw, Plumstone, Thriftear, and Bristlefrost.

*Hawk Feather is no longer the son of Stormfur and Little Brook, just Rustling Breeze's best friend, who gets together with Flipclaw, he just didn't fit. Graystripe makes a mistake during Graystripe's Clan where he assumes Hawk Feather is Stormfur and Brook's son, but they have a naming theme with their kids. Singing, Clinging, Rustling, Swimming.

this tree is only based off canon material, not headcanons or anything. so it’s kinda a dead-end :( lowkey sucks i really wish reedfeather had canon children and maple’s curse continued in the clans but alas, oh well

do you think that stonefur trained in the dark forest w/ mapleshade? i was thinking about how there were probably a lot of who first arc characters who unknowingly trained in the df, and stonefur seems like a good canidate. he probably had mommy issues, and i think you've talked about how maple's manipulation is very motherly. maybe that's how his ears got so scarred. it also adds double meaning to the part where tiger wants him to "prove his loyalty". also he's applekin, so...

I'M KIND OF TORN ON THIS ONE. I think what I might do instead is have Mistyfoot train in the Dark Forest, and Stonefur is the one who realizes that's a problem.

In my headcanon, Stonefur is kind of a doof with a strong sense of right and wrong and is just A Good Boy. He will stand defiant to fight for what is right. He's able to take a lot of things very seriously, but he's a real dork at heart. His love for Willowpelt makes him a big soft doofus most of the time. He's a real romantic, and would (and does) die for his family.

So it would be a bit odd for him to consider the Dark Forest because he'd kind of have a sense that it's bad news? Dunno, that's just the impression I get from him, haha.

Hey! Are you ok with people tagging you in fanart they do/making fanart of your rewrite? Your Crookedstar rewrite has me in SHAMBLES and I need to make fanart for it like. Right now

I'm more than ok with it! I try to collect it as I get it over here on this post, which is also linked on my pinned. You should also check out the TVTropes page that @halogenwarrior maintains, I look at it myself time to time because she updates it pretty frequently and I like learning about tropes that way lmao

You can also feel free to ping me as you please on whatever thing you're making that I inspired! That thing on my pinned post asking people to not ping me on OTHER people's posts refers to people going to the personal works of others and making comparisons, asking me questions about my au in other people's replies, etc. Stuff that wasn't considerate to the OP.

All of BB's concepts are free to use and change as you'd like! Credit's not necessary, but I do like seeing what people are up to.

I only ask that you do not steal drawn art to pass off as your own, as I have collaborators you need to be respectful of, and would also personally like to consider doing commissions or adopts at some point. I don't want any mishaps about people thinking those would be free to use.

ALSO BONUS APPLEKIN MARKING SYMBOLISM:

I stopped writing the draft where I did because I had written a lot and had wanted to share at that point, but with the new update on BB!Oakheart being BB!Crookedstar's adopted brother I've already accounted for the apple-leaf-shaped markings that are on his eyes.

("Applekin" cats come with these very subtle eye markings that aren't particularly noticed in-universe, as an artsy visual sign of them all being part of a family. They're going to show up on everyone from BB!Appledusk all the way down to BB!Frostpaw.

You can see them okish on this chibi I did of Silverstream, but unfortunately last time I drew Oakheart he was dadly weaning sunglasses so they're not visible. Here is a picture of the crabapple leaf it's supposed to look like)

They begin to develop the moment that Crookedstar betrays Mapleshade. Slowly, subtly, over the course of moons. So slowly that no one seems to notice it except Crookedstar.

At first, he thinks he's just crazy. Worrying too much, seeing things that aren't there. But his brother's previously creamy eyerims start to sharpen. At the back corner, a streak lines the lashes back. The smooth edges of the color spike, as if needle-sharp trout teeth are carefully being planted, one prickle, one week at a time.

No one else seems to notice it but him. But he gets the message. Mapleshade "gave" him this family-- and she wants him to know she's going to take it away, too.

So please, feel free to do with that as you will~

Before I hop off I quickly went and made a quick BB!Silverstream

Consider these chibis I've been doing as like, "beta" designs. I plan to come back to them later for full summary art, really play up the shapes and make them more unique and cartoonish

Since we're all kinda likening Silverstream to Roxy Hart, I went ahead and made her look a bit "foxy."

THE EYESHADOW IS IMPORTANT. It's the Applekin Family trait. It looks like a fish, but it's actually a very abstract depiction of an apple leaf.

Silverstream is about as "sleek" as a RiverClan cat gets; they're always thick and usually longer than they are tall, like otters. Silvs only gets THIS thin because she's 25% WindClan.

Her lawyer is technically her uncle Oakheart; but in reality, Lizardstripe is the one actually planning everything out.

Aaand here's another headshot of Lizi because I still need to make her full art, along with the other Forget-Me-Nots

Very round tufts. The roundness shows up in Runningnose and Tangleburr.

Her ears are cut in the same place on both sides. There is a sad story behind it that she won't tell, she says she "liked how it looked."

She has one stripe. It starts above one eye, runs down her back, curls over her hip, and runs back up the other side symmetrically.

CLEFT LIP. It is split just below her nose and naturally exposes her top teeth.

Lizi and Oakheart usually wear Forget-Me-Nots in their fur. Specifically, Lizi is represented by Changing Forget-Me-Nots and Oakheart is represented by Water Forget-Me-Nots (also called scorpion grass).

I'm not sure if she's keeping those siblings who die, or at the very least there might be one less, because I may want to use them at some point.

Rainflower being deputy first and then losing it to Shellheart sounds fascinating. Like, she thinks she’s untouchable and hot shit because she’s next in line to be leader, maybe she abuses her power sometimes (we support women’s wrongs), or she’s incredibly popular and her mistreatment of Stormkit is a complete shock to those around her. Plus Mapleshade over in the corner cackling like “damn I didn’t even do that one that’s all you”

Thinking about it... this does seem like the best choice, actually. It explains a lot, and immediately recontextualizes the story in the exact way I want.

Now instead of it being a generally powerless woman grabbing at status by mistreating her son and having it backfire, she has it already. Her actions can make waves in RiverClan. Hailstar is reluctant to do anything because Rainflower helps RUN the Clan. Shellheart is going to be going AGAINST power to help these two kids.

And no wonder Stormpaw wants to get away from RiverClan, if his shitty mother is the deputy, or even WAS the deputy but got demoted and people are torn about it.

Plus, with Rainflower as deputy, Mapleshade is BOILING with anger. She doesn't want Applekin leading RiverClan, she wants to ruin this bloodline. She'll do anything to tear them all down, even after Oak and Storm are taken from the Applekin family in the eyes of StarClan; it's certainly not the case in her eyes.

Let's DO it, deputy swap time, Rainflower was the deputy of RiverClan when her kits were born. We'll figure out the details as it goes, but this feels much stronger.

what are frecklewish n co(the rage damned crew, if u will) up to nowadays? have they faded due to obscurity? are they vibing?

Let's call them the Commandment Crew, since they get damned in Darkstar's Commandment, so I have a good tag for them. They come up a lot!

Each one of them has a very different reaction.

Frecklewish and Oakstar

Are both very close, and readily obey when summoned. They're "popular" demons to channel, especially by ThunderClan against RiverClan and Kittypets.

In the Dark Forest, they're seen as pretty "serious" by the other denizens. They're not particularly social, but occasionally cross paths with other ThunderClan cats. Frecklewish and Mapleshade have even fought each other "to the death" a few times. So, to avoid drama, most cats let them walk alone.

They were two of the first cats in Tigerstar's Dark Forest coalition.

Mapleshade

While she, at first, was dedicated to trying to find and torment the other cats she was damned with, eventually she grew bored. Magically, no Dark Forest cat has to "meet" anyone else they don't want to, so it's just endless hunting without a catch.

Nowadays she's rarely in the Dark Forest. Mapleshade is a boogeyman in the territories, haunting the Applekin family and pulling people into the river when they aren't careful.

She's an "easy" demon to channel, but be careful! She's a highly malicious spirit who doesn't listen to commands, and will not stop if you change your mind. She might even turn on you, if you offend her in some way.

Appledusk

Is dedicated to "proving" himself to StarClan, believing that if he repents enough and shows that he's not the cat they condemned him as, one day they'll reconsider their ruling.

So while at first he avoided meeting other cats, ESPECIALLY Mapleshade, he's now one of the "gentler" spirits there. He occasionally spends time with Cloudberry and Ryewhisker, is open to join in on activities, and generally just vibes.

If channeled, he's reluctant to grant requests, even in the case of his direct descendants. He's also a bit of a coward, who will not put his weight behind fighting evil spirits. While he can be convinced to do some harmless things, he typically tries to convince you to contact StarClan instead.

Ravenwing

Is so reclusive that even Dark Forest cats believe he's faded. Occasionally someone will catch a glimpse of him gathering the strange, nightmarish herbs that grow all around the twisted dimension, but no one has ever heard him speak.

In truth? Ravenwing's Land Mar is a corrupted version of the Mothermouth. It sprawls deep underground, full of so many twists and turns that it's impossible to find the central chamber without being lead there. He spends most of his time there, alone, mixing strange plants together for some unknown reason.

There's only one person he's ever shared his cave with; Shadowsight, once, when the poor thing was lost and injured. He patched him up and had a soft conversation with him over "tea" (a boiled bone-and-mushroom broth).

If anyone has ever tried to channel him, he did not answer it.

Please mister bonefall May we have, in the case of Smallstar being leader of WindClan during Darkstar’s Commandment, a cameo of Brindleclaw aka the only woman I can think of with the -suffix claw who I was obsessed with as a child. May she be present a little please mista bones

I should add her over to the RiverClan family tree actually, like, after this Orphan Warrior list is done for WindClan. Since I'm now committing to Smallstar being alive and well in the Crusade Era, all the RiverClan cats of that parable should get added to the tree.

Brindleclaw's probably an elder in RiverClan in Darkstar's Commandment! Maybe she'd work nicely as Shellheart's grandmother, since I decided to make Rainflower the Applekin descendant...

I'll make a note of it. She can at least have a little cameo in Darkstar's Commandment.
