MacAddict September 2001
Hits and misses (so far as the conventional wisdom went) cluster on the cover as MacAddict reached its fifth anniversary issue. "The best and worst of everything Mac" covered more than just the five years of the magazine's existence (with David Reynolds's editorial flashing back to being asked whether joining "a new Macintosh magazine" was a good idea in 1996 even as he declared he'd be leaving now); the news section happened to proclaim what the best and worst moments of the magazine itself had been.

What you really want in a G4! A Sawtooth!
The Yike's G4 put the taste of G4's into my mouth, and while the Yikes! is a great entry level machine it's handicapped by itself. So I had to have another, a Sawtooth.
This machine came to me loaded perhaps a bit too loaded, but none the less, it's a fun machine with a 1.2GHz G4 socketed to an AGP 2x motherboard. Mine came loaded, including maxed out RAM of 2GB of PC100. (4x512MB.) Which for the early 00s when this system would have been in use, was quite a bit and would have cost a lot.
Hardware wise, the only thing I've really done with it was remove the unneeded second graphics card, (it's going into the Yikes! machine) and replaced the incorrect PATA cable with the correct one. Installing the correct PATA cable is actually not as easy as it sounds since the cable is tucked under the motherboard, the 3rd harddrive slot and up the left side of the machine behind the fan bracket. I tied up the power cables which were all over the place in a nice tight bundle. If I ever have to add a second hard drive to the system I'll curse at myself but that's something for future me to do.
Tip with the chassis fan, it's actually in intake fan that blows across the cards and not an exhaust like I thought it was, it's a self managed fan with a thermistor to control the speed. It's speed is not set by the thermals in the system but by the air temperature it's drawing in. The exhaust fan is on the PSU.
To Do:
More Games and Software (suggestions in the comments)
Upgrades?
SSD GPU? Dual Core CPU?
Long Term To Do:

MacAddict October 2002
Tips-a-plenty rolled around again as the main feature in this issue. Outside of that main feature, there was an explanation of how to search more effectively with Google.
