(*) Famoso per essere stato il maggiore dei "puristi", cioè di quegli studiosi di lingua che, tra la fine del Settecento e il principio dell'Ottocento, fecero argine all'imbarbarimento della lingua dovuto soprattutto all'influenza del francese, richiamando gl'Italiani allo studio e all'imitazione dei nostri scrittori antichi, e specialmente dei trecentisti.

Un tratto che amo molto di Leopardi è la consapevolezza che gli permetteva di valutare lucidamente sé stesso e gli altri, tanto da fargli pensare che nessuno potesse essergli giudice, esemplificato dalla frase del Giordani: egli sapeva di non aver raggiunto l'eccellenza nell'imitazione, ma sapeva di essersi avvicinato ad essa quanto bastava per ingannare gli altri. Così, fra i dolori dell'"infelice" Leopardi, posso immaginare che ci sia stato, a mitigarli, questo gratificante pensiero di essere un gradino più su di tutti gli altri…

Happy Pride Month! Every year, I do a little round-up of YA books starring LGBTQ and BIPOC characters that have come out so far this year. This year was particularly exciting -- there were so many books that I loved or have at the very top of my TBR! So, without further ado, here's 9 of them for your TBR!

Ritorna la Disney Dream a Catania: 3457 passeggeri pronti a esplorare la Sicilia

La nave da crociera Disney Dream ha fatto ritorno al porto di Catania, portando con sé 3457 passeggeri desiderosi di scoprire le meraviglie della Sicilia. Tra le destinazioni previste per i turisti sono state proposte l'Etna, Taormina, le Gole dell'Alcantara e Siracusa, offrendo loro un'esperienza completa delle bellezze naturali e storiche dell'isola. Inoltre, molti visitatori hanno optato per partecipare a lezioni speciali sulla preparazione degli arancini presso la villa del Gelso. L'arrivo della nave è stato accolto con entusiasmo dal presidente dell'Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare di Sicilia Orientale, Francesco Di Sarcina, insieme al sindaco di Catania Enrico Trantino e al contrammiraglio Antonio Ranieri. Questi hanno dato il benvenuto all'equipaggio e hanno consegnato alcuni crest al comandante Ivo Brnabic. Una visita alla Disney Dream ha permesso loro di ammirare l'imbarcazione, famosa per la sua dedizione al mondo dei cartoni animati. Quest'ultima ha collaborato con l'associazione Cultuartenoto per realizzare l'opera "Welcome to Catania", un disegno di benvenuto che rappresenta 70 mq di sale con la scritta di benvenuto, i loghi Adsp e Disney, e i principali simboli catanesi come l'Etna, il Duomo e Castell’Ursino, reinterpretati con un tocco disneyano, inclusa l'iconica figura di Dumbo al posto dell'elefante etneo. Durante la visita, è comparso anche il famoso personaggio "Topolino". La Disney Dream, gemella della Disney Fantasy, ha iniziato il viaggio da La Valletta e prosegue verso Palma de Maiorca dopo la sua sosta a Catania. Certi romanzi spiegano la geografia meglio di un geografo. Queste parole sono state dette, appunto, da un grande geografo italiano, Franco Farinelli. E mi sembrano perfette per parlare un po' di questa carta geografica della letteratura del '900 che è questo libro, che mi ha tenuto tutto il mese di Settembre sulle sue pagine.

Ho scoperto il nome di William Gaddis anni fa, dopo aver letto quel capolavoro che è L'Incanto del Lotto 49 di Thomas Pynchon. Del misterioso autore di quel libro non si sanno che poche cose, fotografie solo da giovane studente, tanto che alcuni sospettarono che fosse uno pseudonimo di Gaddis. Questa è leggenda, Pynchon esiste davvero, ma è vero invece che tutti e due sono i pilastri del post-modernismo letterario americano, che ha incantato tutta una serie di scrittori diventati iconici, con romanzi quali L’arcobaleno della gravità di Thomas Pynchon (1973), Infinite Jest di David Foster Wallace (1996) e Underworld di Don De Lillo (1997) o Le Correzioni di Jonathan Franzen (2001).

Le Perizie è un libro mondo, scritto nel 1955 (1220 pagine) che è stato riproposto da Il Saggiatore dopo quasi 50 anni dalla prima edizione Mondadori, che all'epoca lo divideva in due volumi (1967). Racconta la storia di Wyatt, un giovane del New England cresciuto dal padre pastore protestante e la Zia Mary, ultra calvinista, nel ricordo di sua madre Camilla, morta in un viaggio in Spagna. Wyatt scopre di avere un talento particolare nel disegno, tanto che una volta arrivato a New York viene ingaggiato come falsificatore di antichi quadri rinascimentali fiamminghi da un ricco uomo d'affari, Recktall Brown (il cui nome è tutto un programma). Tutto intorno a questa vicenda gira un gruppo di personaggi secondari e delle loro storie, tra scrittori in cerca di successo, attrici, artisti, poeti, critici d'arte che tra feste senza senso e dissertazioni esistenziali si interrogano sul ruolo dell'arte, degli artisti e del loro senso nel mondo. Le perizie del titolo è un sottile gioco semantico: sono sia quelle tecniche che certificano l'autenticità di un'opera d'arte, ma sono anche in senso più ampio una disamina infinita che vede i personaggi coinvolti in un interrogarsi minuzioso sulla crisi del pensiero filosofico occidentale, dalla metafisica aristotelica alla storia dell’alchimia, dalla storia delle dottrine religiose alla storia dell’arte moderna.

Quello di Gaddis fu volutamente un tentativo di scrivere un libro che andasse oltre, sia in termini strutturali che soprattutto linguistici. È l'apoteosi della citazione, di oscuri pittori fiamminghi del 1500, di testi scritti da santi eretici, di luoghi veri e immaginari, in un mix che si pone a metà strada tra il Faust e Finnegans Wake. All'epoca fu un fiasco, tanto che Gaddis per oltre venti anni abbandonerà la letteratura e lavorerà come pubblicitario per grandi gruppi industriali americani, come l'IBM. Ritornerà al romanzo solo venti anni dopo, con un'opera forse ancora più audace, JR, che però stavolta fu un successo, tanto che vincerà nel 1976 il prestigioso National Book Awards, premio che Gaddis vincerà ancora nel 1994 con A Frolic Of His Own (non tradotto in Italiano).

Tra i suoi più grandi ammiratori c'è Jonathan Franzen, che ha intitolato il suo podcast e blog personale Mr Difficult, non a caso, dato che era il soprannome di Gaddis per via del suo stile barocco, a tratti schizofrenico, imperscrutabile e con la caratteristica, unica e singolare, di caratterizzare i personaggi per uno stile riconoscibile nel linguaggio (per spiegarmi meglio, come quei tic linguistici che si hanno, il ripetere spesso un intercalare, un modo di dire e così via). Nel 2002 Franzen scrisse sul New Yorker un articolo, intitolato Mr. Difficult: William Gaddis and the Problem of Hard-to-Read Books, in cui divide i lettori in due gruppi: gli Status Model, che cercano in un romanzo una forma d'arte, e i Contract Model, che cercano in un romanzo una forma di intrattenimento. In Gaddis lo sfoggio, nel caso de Le Perizie, di citazioni erudite, rimandi all'antropologia, all’esoterismo, alla teologia cristiana o alla pittura fiamminga sono segnali paradigmatici di Status Model, e fu questa analisi stilistica che portò lo stesso Franzen a passare dal romanzo forbito (e a tratti indimenticabile) ma "difficile" da leggere che fu Le Correzioni a quello più semplice strutturalmente e più godibile che fu il successivo Crossroads.

Leggendolo, ho detto alle mie amicizie di lettura che non lo avrei consigliato a nessuno, sebbene sia stata una delle letture più incredibili della mia vita. Perchè c'è uno sforzo intellettuale che, e non so nemmeno se sia in fondo un problema, non è solitamente più richiesto per lo meno in un momento personale di riflessione come può esserlo una lettura.

Lascio l'ultima riflessione alla traduzione: fu opera già nel 1967 del grande Vincenzo Mantovani, uno dei più grandi traduttori di autori anglofoni della nostra editoria, scomparso l'anno scorso. Lui aveva un amore viscerale per Gaddis, che mi rendo conto era una sfida da rompicapo per un traduttore ma che per lo stesso motivo era amatissimo da chi queste sfide le accettava. Lo stesso Mantovani lavorò per 15 anni alla traduzione di JR, che è in pratica un romanzo dialogo su un giovane genio adolescente che scopre un modo per fare soldi nella finanza, ma non trovò mai un editore disposto a pubblicarlo. Ci riuscì solo nel 2009, grazie alle Alet di Padova, che tra l'altro non pubblica più, rendendo introvabile questo altro romanzo così sui generis e forse per questo così fondamentale.

UNA PASARELA EN EL PLANETARIO: BAFWEEK SS24

Buenos Aires Fashion Week continúa con su grilla semanal, mostrando las propuestas para la temporada SS 2024 en locaciones icónicas de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Explosión de textura y color

La tarde del lunes comenzó en el Planetario Galileo Galilei, a las 17hs, para conocer la nueva colección de Agus Chueizer. En la búsqueda de materializar prendas que conecten con las emociones de quienes las lleven, la diseñadora se enfocó en la durabilidad y la atemporalidad. Esta temporada destacaron vestidos, camisas, faldas y sastrería con cortes asimétricos, cutouts y transparencias. Metalizados y lentejuelas fueron los protagonistas dentro de una paleta donde predominaron los tonos rosas, amarillos y anaranjados.

Llenando el vacío

El día siguió con el desfile de la marca fundada por Santi Goicoechea y Antonio Lazalde, Pr0testa titulado “La velocidad de la sombra”. “Este puede ser un momento en que todas las viejas historias que dieron sentido al mundo estén colapsando. En este instante antes de que llegue la próxima gran historia, una masa informe de billones de fragmentos sin ningún sentido está precipitándose para tratar de llenar ese vacío”, explicaron. La quinta colección del tándem creativo buscó interpretar el sinsentido que padecen muchas sociedades, movimientos sociales y revoluciones reafirmando el significado de protestar. En pasarela, los modelos parecían prisioneros de su looks, algunos enredados con las mismas prendas que utilizaban y otros con esposas en las manos. Hubo piezas artesanales con transparencias y estampados lúdicos que iban desde pokemons hasta aviones de guerra. También destacaron piezas intervenidas con la palabra “PR0TESTA”, botas con inscripciones neón y pantalones con letras espejadas que deletreaban el nombre de la firma.

Viaje al NOA

La diseñadora nacida en Salta, Helena Dakak, presentó “Calendario”, una colección que fusionó lo artesanal con lo moderno, el mundo contemporáneo con la tradición y la simbología del norte de la Argentina. Realizada en colaboración con artesanos de su región, las tipologías veraniegas incluyeron minifaldas, bermudas, camisas con recortes asimétricos y minivestidos con escote en V profundo. Además de rayas y tartanes hubo estampas coloridas de fotos de los paisajes salteños.

Helena fue elegida ganadora del sexto Concurso Nacional de Diseño y de la beca de Instituto Marangoni, la cual fue otorgada a través de BAFWEEK y la plataforma de educación, coaching y mentoreo FAD Connection.

Romeo and Juliet is a 1968 film based on the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. Directed and co-written by Franco Zeffirelli, the film stars Leonard Whiting as Romeo and Olivia Hussey as Juliet. Laurence Olivier spoke the film's prologue and epilogue and dubs the voice of the actor Antonio Pierfederici, who played Lord Montague, but was not credited on-screen. The cast also stars Milo O'Shea, Michael York, John McEnery, Bruce Robinson, and Robert Stephens.

The most financially successful film adaptation of a Shakespeare play at the time of its release, it was popular among teenagers partly because it was the first film to use actors who were close to the age of the characters from the original play. Several critics also welcomed the film enthusiastically. It won Academy Awards for Best Cinematography (Pasqualino De Santis) and Best Costume Design (Danilo Donati); it was also nominated for Best Director and Best Picture, making it the last Shakespearean film to be nominated for Best Picture to date. Whiting and Hussey both won Golden Globe Awards for Most Promising Newcomers.

This was one of three Shakespearean film adaptations directed by Zeffirelli: The Taming of the Screw - 1967 Romeo and Juliet - 1968 Hamlet - 1990.

Nuovi palinsesti Rai la diaspora, vanno via molti validi giornalisti, presentatori, show-man, …, e quant’altro per far posto a guitti e leccaculo.

Roberto Sergio dice che non c’è stata censura su Serena Bortone, che passa dal programma su Rai 3 a Radio Rai; secondo l’amministratore delegato della Rai le sarebbero state fatte delle proposte per Rai 1 e Rai 3 che non poteva non rifiutare ed eccola “promossa” alla radio.

Ora, la Bortone è una professionista seria, che ha denunciato il tentativo di censura all’interno del suo programma Chesarà di Antonio Scurati e ha chiarito che non si trattava di questioni di compenso (dal momento che dopo Scurati ha messo a disposizione il testo che aveva preparato a titolo gratuito).

È una che si è costruita il consenso con la serietà e la professionalità, è una che deve il suo successo al suo pubblico e cerca di essere onesta con i suoi telespettatori, mentre Sergio è di nomina politica, è stato messo li dalla Meloni e alla Meloni deve la sua esclusiva fedeltà, anche se il suo stipendio viene pagato dal canone Rai.

Che pena ridurre una grande azienda a TeleMeloni, che pena mandare in onda ogni giorno repliche su repliche, tanto che la Rai è ormai diventata Teche Teche Rai, che pena vedere in ogni canale guitti che non sanno fare spettacolo, informazione, intrattenimento e, anche quando fanno ridere, ridiamo di un Riso amaro, replica del film di Giuseppe de Santis del 1949.

Sergio sembra quel burocrate che è pronto a tutto pur di conservare il posto e lo stipendio che ha e che non ha scrupoli ad eseguire qualsiasi censura, anche preventiva per eccesso di zelo, ritenesse necessaria per servire i suoi padroni.
