The writers' disrespect and disregard of Alicent's character showed when they wrote forced 'parallels' between her and Rhaenyra in s2. These characters have had different life experiences in the backdrop of privilege and politics in the Keep. They'll never be equal!

Yup. That about sums it up.
Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Corlys was turned into a clueless NPC whose importance is heavily diminished from the source material. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Laena, Laenor and Addam all had their characterization, relationships and storylines warped in service of other characters. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason characters from the books had their existence erased. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason we got several new OCs whose storylines are fleshed out. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Nettles storyline has been divided amongst the other characters. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Daeron was retconned out of existence so that his family doesn’t even mention him, before being shoehorned back into existence with a diminished role. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Criston is obsessed with having relationships with women despite his strict adherence to maintaining his honor. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason he claims that Blood & Cheese was propaganda created by Alicent. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Alicent doesn’t care about the Green cause and is very willing to sacrifice her family for a crumb of Rhaenyra’s affections. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Helaena doesn’t care about her children getting hurt and is very ready to get over it. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Rhaena has no personality beyond her lack of a dragon. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Alyn has no personality beyond his lack of a father. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Baela’s only purpose is to give a pep talk to other characters. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Daemon killed Rhea and raises a hand to Rhaenyra, in the show, though that never happened in the book. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is why Daemon mistreated Laena and now ignores Baela & Rhaena. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Rhaenys acts like a preacher of peace. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Aegon regularly bullies Aemond and why Aemond committed treason against Aegon. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason characters’ ages are all over the place. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason characters’ personalities are not consistent over the course of two seasons. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason Rhaenyra is not simply a woman fighting for her birthright but a fanatical cult leader who believes herself to have a divine destiny. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason he won’t let Rhaenyra or Alicent commit to the war, despite their family members dying one after another. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason he created a contrived plot where Rhaenicent have secret meetings with each other. Ryan Condal’s practical issues is the reason the showrunner insists that the succession war that tore a family apart is actually about two old friends struggling to get back to each other.

I don't know if I'll find any supporters, but this has been driving me crazy for three years now, and I have to say it.
The scene from season one with Luke and Rhaenyra where Luke expresses his insecurities as the heir to Driftmark is bullshit, and a litmus test for what's wrong with this show.
It all starts out relatively normal, with Luke again expressing his insecurities as the heir of Driftmark and offering to give the position to someone else, and this personally pisses me off because Luke could have said this at any time, there was a whole trial about it, but it's ok, at least kid gets some kind of personality, cool.
And then fucking Rhaenyra goes on about how she realized that ruling takes work, and she had a duty and must earn her inheritance. Like she's ever done anything unselfish in her life, really.
And then that line. No, not like that. THAT FUCKING LINE. Luke, breathlessly muttering, "I'm not like you. Not so perfect."
OH MY FUCKING GOD I HATE THIS SHIT SO MUCH
That sounds just as fake and useless as half of TB's lines extolling Rhaenyra's greatness, because God forbid we forget for a second that that woman is about to be canonized by Twitter any day now. TB's characters are underdeveloped, they feel fake and hollow, designed to kiss the ass of the one woman the audience is allowed to love, because if you like anyone else, you're obviously sexist and deserve to be publicly humiliated.
Luke is already an unpleasant little shit, he hasn't shown a single redeeming quality. He's selfish, arrogant, spoiled, and privileged even among royalty. And you take away his two miserable minutes of screen time to praise Rhaenyra again, and remind us that it turns out she actually sacrificed and worked for something in her life, and didn't just expect things to go her way because she's daddy's special girl. And she's perfect. Perfest, perfect, perfect. Love her right now, or you will be canceled on every social media.
Those two minutes should have gone to Luke and Rhaena. That's his fiancée, for God's sake! Those two haven't said a single damn thing to each other! Instead of whining about Driftmark again, let Luke comfort Rhaena when she expresses her concerns about the upcoming marriage - at least then I'll know he cares about his betrothed!
But no, that would be too complicated. Instead, we have someone praising Rhaenyra again, because what if not everyone realized that she's *gasping* perfect.

Aegon and Sunfyre canonically having the strongest dragonrider bond
Aegon and Sunfyre being so connected we get the quote “who can truly know the heart of a dragon?”
Sunfyre being the most beautiful dragon in the known world
Aegon choosing his sigil to honor SUNFYRE
I’m so sorry they did this to you my babies y’all deserved so much better.

Is this a fucking joke?!
ALICENT has never sacrificed anything?!
Alicent has sacrificed EVERYTHING
She sacrificed her choices and happiness for Otto by marrying the King. She sacrificed her friendship with Rhaenyra. She sacrificed her bodily autonomy to give the king a male heir. She sacrificed her own safety for the safety of her children. She was prepared to die by dragonfire for Aegon, sacrificing her own life for his
But no. She has never sacrificed anything. Everything has been handed to her on a silver platter according to these writers
Meanwhile wtf has Rhaenyra sacrificed? A random knight so she could marry Daemon? A ton of innocent people for more dragons? Those aren’t personal sacrifices the way Alicent’s are. She’s sacrificing other people for herself
Not the same at all
And everything she has, she has been handed on a silver platter. Daddy named her heir, despite her treason in passing off bastards as heirs to Driftmark. She fucked off to Dragonstone and still was heir. She got the Riverlands because of Daemon, not anything she did. She got the dragons through evil means. Alicent offers her everything she wants
It it’s Alicent who has never sacrificed anything?
And now she’s being forced by the writers to sacrifice her son; the person she did all this to protect. Now she’s choosing Rhaenyra because this is redemption to the writers instead of the character assassination that it is
At least Olivia tries to save what she can by making Alicent have a panic attack

To everyone saying ‘oh George should of solved this behind closed doors’ or ‘oh he should shut up and write winds’
I need you to listen closely. This is obviously his last resort. HBO and Condal have stopped listening to him. This is how he’s keeping influence over HIS work. This is HIS story. He is more than justified to be mad they’re changing it. This is his last attempt to get influence back over his work. He’s showing HBO he won’t be quiet anymore. They can’t walk over him like they did with GOT.
He’s also allowed to work on two things at once.

Ryan Condal choosing the necessary plotlines that HOTD must include:
Nettles ✗
Maelor ✗
The Greens loving one another ✗
Rhaenyra being cruel ✗
A whole bunch of other important shit ✗
Tyland Lannister being a sperm donor for a polygamous woman and her concubines (which slay, but priorities?) ✓

Today was actually amazing for me because of this. He ate and no one will ever convince me he’s in the wrong (cause how y’all ruin two adaptions of his work back to back💀)

i bring a “house of the dragon is a poorly written fanfic cash grab that glorifies house targaryen and completely misses the message of fire and blood. all the characters deserve better” vibe people aren’t particularly fond of i fear

I feel like it shouldn't need to be said, but a relatively faithful adaptation of the source material is actually a very normal and reasonable thing for both an author and that author's fanbase to want. People can sneer about book purists all they want but it's the rare adaptation that surpasses the original, and HotD does not even come close.

So apparently Aegon is gonna mock the whole prophecy thing when Rhaenyra tries to tell him, if the leaks are real
Well shit then he’s fucking right, cause none of that ridicule thing about “a Targaryen uniting Westeros for the long night” came to be true in the main series

Ryan Condal telling GRRM that they couldn't include Maelor because he didn't want another toddler on set is pretty ridiculous to me when you think about how they aged down all of the children and made them all toddlers. Jaehaerys and Jaehaera weren't toddlers in the book. Aegon and Viserys weren't toddlers in the book. He included 4 toddlers into the show for no reason and then he excluded the only character who was actually a toddler. Like what was the point of all that Ryan??
