Catwoman
365 DC Comics Paper Cut-Out Villains - One Villain, Every Day, All Year…
November 19th - Catwoman
Selina Kyle lost her parents at a young age and ended up in a Gotham orphanage run by a corrupt headmistress who was embezzling funds allocated by the state. Shrewd and cunning from the start, young Selina discovered this embezzlement and used the information to extort the headmistress into erasing Selina Kyle” from the city’s records. She then stole a diamond neckless from this woman before taking to the streets where she ended up falling in with a group of young thieves living in the ‘Alleytown’ neighborhood of the East End of Old Gotham. There Selina was taken in by Mama Fortuna, the elderly leader of a thieves’ guild who taught Selina to utilize her natural skills to become an expert burglar, thief and pickpocket. As she grew older, Selina achieved great success as a burglar; as well as great notoriety. Fearing the attention her actions were attracting, Selina decided to lay low for a spell, hiding out as a dominatrix working for an East End pimp named Stan. During this time Selina also trained under the sensi known as The Armless Master who taught her to be a master combatant int he martial arts. She additionally befriended a young prostitute named Holly who would go on to be a lifelong friend and companion. Selina witnessed The Batman in the early days of his career, seeing him battle the corrupt police of Gotham. She was inspired by how Batman’s costume acted to instill fear, distract his opponents as well as maintain his anonymity; and it inspired her to take up the identity of The Catwoman. Cats had always loved Selina and she greatly admired the animals’ sense of independence and grace… it seemed an ideal fit for her. As Catwoman, Selina would go on to be a persistent and challenging foil to Batman and the two would go up against one another on countless occasions (their encounters always being equal parts fighting and flirtation). As time passed, Selina’s actions and motivations matured. More and more she used her skills to help people and steal only from those who she felt deserved it. She and Batman came to learn each others true identities and ultimately became lovers. They almost got married and have remained close confederates. Versions of Catwoman featured prominently in the 1960’s Batman television series portrayed by actresses Lee Meriwether, Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt. Michelle Pfeiffer portrayed the character in the 1992 movie Batman Returns; Halley Berry took on the role in the 2004 movie Catwoman; Anne Hathaway played Catwoman in the 2012 movie The Dark Knight Rises; Camren Bicondova has portrayed Selina Kyle on the television series Gotham; and Zoë Kravitz is set to portray the character in the upcoming 2021 movie The Batman. The Catwoman first appeared int he pages of Batman #1 (1940).

Headcanons for Hotchner!daughter Service Dog
No one asked for it but here we are.
Inspired by the headcanons done by @ssa-thotchnerr on hotchner!reader emotional support dog
As someone who is a service dog handler, this topic is near and dear to my heart, especially service dogs who do psychiatric work. It's also important to me to address the differences between an ESA (emotional support animal) and PSD (psychiatric service dog) as they are two seprate things.
If you have questions about ESAs or Service Dogs send me an ask or a message! It's something I love to talk about and educate on!
Here we go:
CW: Foyet, Haley's death, counseling, medication, PTSD, PTSD symptoms, meanings to names
The whole thing with Foyet was traumatic. Being pulled away from your dad, being in witness protection, being told your dad was dead only to find out that he wasn't, your mom being killed- it was all too much.
Hotch was very proactive about getting you and Jack into counseling. Jack recovered from the events far faster and easier than you did.
After evaluation from a psychologist, they concluded you had severe PTSD.
You were talking to a therapist multiple times a week, taking medication, being open with your dad, even peer support groups, but after a year you still struggled immensely.
Panic attacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, depressive episodes, and avoidance still ruled your life.
Your medical team brought forward the idea of a service dog as an addition to the rest of your treatment.
You and your dad looked into it and decided it would be a good idea.
Until you looked at the price of training or getting a program dog and it was going to be upwards of $15,000 (really closer to $25,000) or at least two years on a non-profit waitlist. Some options were both.
Thank god for the "anonymous donation" from Uncle Dave.
You and your dad met with the program. They had you meet a few different dogs that were ready for task training, but ultimately you were matched with a solid black female german shepherd.
"She's from our outer space themed litter. Her name is Comet, after Halley's Comet."
That had you and your dad in tears.
It would still be months before she would complete her task training, but you got to see her when you went to do handler training.
She finally finished her training with the program and got to come home to complete it with you!
At first, having Comet almost made things worse.
People would point and stare, little kids would scream, rude people saying things like "you don't look disabled", "I thought only veterans could have PTSD", access issues, even some of your friends who didn't want to bring you along on activities anymore since you'd have Comet with you.
But it forced you to be a bit brave and learn to stand up for yourself and her.
And her tasks made your life so much better and gave you so much more independence.
Comet would "search" the apartment for strangers before you entered, so you could come home alone without Hotch or Jessica having to be there.
If you were home alone, she would bark when someone came into the apartment and go check to see who it was. If it was someone she knew, she would stop barking and come back to you, but if it was a stranger she would continue barking so you could call your dad and ask who was supposed to be coming to the apartment.
When you had nightmares, she would wake you up before they got really bad. This improved the sleep quality of everyone in your family.
Comet would alert you before you had a panic attack so she could perform deep pressure therapy and you could use your coping skills to try to make it less intense.
If your panic attack did get intense, she would do a "take down" to put as much pressure on your body as possible and gently lick you until you calmed down.
In the after-fatuige of an attack she would take you to a quiet place to recover and continue to provide pressure therapy.
If it happened when your dad was home she would get him to help you through it.
She would annoy you at certain times of the day to remind you to take your medications, sometimes even fetching the bottles for you.
When you would cry alone she would just starting bringing you anything she could find - water bottles, papers, pillows, dirty laundry (usually bras because it made you laugh) - so you didn't have to be alone with your feelings.
She would stand behind you and alert to people approaching so you didn't get startled.
Sometimes would provide "checks" around corners if you were having a really bad day with hypervigilance.
Having Comet opened up an entire new world for you, making you feel safe without having to have your dad or your aunt with you.
She wasn't a replacement for your therapy or medication, and the public could still be extremely rude. Sometimes you did leave her at home if you were going somewhere that it would be hard to accommodate her and you had your dad to help you incase anything happened.
But she gave you independence that you didn't have before and made your life so much better.

i love it when pieces of media rewrite history but in completely nonsensical and inoffensive ways
anne frank was a magical girl, ww2 was a fight between demigods: ❌ bad, erases actual historical events/context, adds nothing to the narrative, weird choice all around
the discoverer of halley’s comet was possessed by an eldritch horror, abraham lincoln invented stairs: ✅ peak comedy, hurts no one, fucking hilarious on all levels
#icarus speaks#in order those r references to madoka percy jackson the magnus archives and tf2#before anyone asks#i think it’s so fucking funny to just take random historical figures#and add nonsensical facts that adds nothing to the world#it Exists. we just did it because we could

The appearance of Halley's Comet, first observed streaking across the sky in August [1532], was the occasion for much muttering and comment. For Anne the omen seemed favorable, as on the morning of Sunday 1 September [1532] in Windsor Castle and with de la Pommeraye as the guest of honour, Henry ennobled her as Marquis of Pembroke in her own right [...]. Anne's grant followed the same format as for the creation of male peers and closely resembled the one Francis [I] made to his sister Marguerite in 1517, which Anne had witnessed. As Duke of Berry, Marguerite had become male in terms of status, entitled to the traditional rights and privileges ascribed to the male siblings of the king. [...] As a marquis, Anne could sit in the House of Lords, and the title would automatically descend to her offspring even if illegitimately conceived.*
Hunting the Falcon: Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, and The Marriage That Shook Europe, John Guy & Julia Fox
*"Whether the omission of the customary words 'lawfully begotten' in the Latin text of the patent was a drafting error will never be known. Nobody noticed at the time."
#katherynparr#couldn't stop thinking about your one txt post/ask reading this...#anne boleyn#julia fox#john guy#marguerite d'angouleme#yeah if no one commented at the time then it should...probably be made less of a big deal than it is#i would bet a purposeful omission but more the purpose of not signaling too clearly what was about to be done#rather than lack of confidence/ insecurity#*more to the purpose#had they included the words lawfully begotten idt there would have been as many rumors as there were that hviii was abt to#marry her off to a member of his nobility and marry a french princess himself on the upcoming trip#henrician#ok so now if anyone wants to write this AU remember that...house of lords *eyes emoji#*the vagueness might have been what led to those assumptions even if none as they say explicitly#commented on the omission.......

This painting is by the artist, Ferdinand Piloty, (?1786-1844?) who painted a stylistically-similar scene of Kriemhild and her mother in the blog post I still haven't completed (link here). It refers to the tragic 12th century love story of Cornish king, Tristan, and Irish princess, Isolde (aka Iseult). The tale was adapted into an opera by Richard Wagner between 1857 and 1859. I like the painting because of the gold background and intricate tree design.
The image is just one of loads of fresh material I have unearthed while making my latest scrapbook. Other items include pictures of lesser-known animals (geunons, gaurs and peccaries); various flowers; different types of fish (glass fish, icicle fish, goatfish); depictions of zodiacal signs (from Krakow's Kupa Synagogue, and Jaipur's Janta Mantar observatory); bizarre illustrations from alchemical manuscripts; Renaissance- and Baroque-era portraits of saints (Barbara, Catherine and Rose of Lima); artworks by Vincent van Gogh; watercolour paintings of fairies, oil paintings of angels, and woodcut renderings of witches; information about bees and bee-keeping; ancient Chinese and medieval European agricultural practices; the history of weather vanes; snippets of info about and paintings by Egon Schiele; the history of the dodo and its genetic relation, the solitaire (now both extinct); a brief history of the factory-village of Port Sunlight (similar to the story of Sir Titus Salt and Saltaire in West Yorkshire, it was built by an industrialist - William Hesketh Lever* - to house his estate workers); an engraving of Hester Prynne and her daughter from Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel 'The Scarlet Letter'; information and illustrations pertaining to the use of runes in the practice of magic; the constellation of Gemini as portrayed in various manuscripts (e.g. the Bedford Book of Hours, and a Turkish treatise on astrology); info about Halley's comet, the Geminid meteor shower, the festivals of Saturnalia and Lupercalia, and a woodcut from a 16th century English Shepherd's Calendar; and portraits and snippets of info about the (sadly, tragic lives) of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, Mary Queen of Scots, Lady Emma Hamilton, Isadora Duncan, Marie Antoinette and Anne Boleyn.
It's a pity I can't mass-produce my scrapbooks, because I reckon they would be bestsellers!
*The Lady Lever Art Gallery in Liverpool was established by WHL after the death of his wife, and is set in the garden village of Port Sunlight, on the Wirral.
