London Bees captain Ashleigh Goddard led from the front once more as her stunning strike capped off a comfortable victory for her side against Oxford United in the FA WSL Spring Series.

Her 25-yard effort was Goddard’s third goal in as many games and maintains the Bees’ position at the top of the WSL 2 Spring Series table.

The hosts dominated from the off as goals from Hana Lalani and Emma Beckett gave the Bees the lead, before Goddard’s strike gave them a three-goal advantage at half-time.

Oxford found the back of the net late on through Ini Umotong, but it proved to be a mere consolation as the Bees held on.

Lalani opened the scoring with just six minutes played, with a well taken left-footed shot after going past a defender on the edge of the box.

The Bees doubled their lead when Beckett bravely nodded home after a free-kick from Paula Howells, but a nasty clash of heads caused both Beckett and Oxford goalkeeper Lucy Thomas off injured.

The game was all but over when Goddard drove from midfield and produced a crackerjack effort into the top corner which left Demi Lambourne, the replacement keeper, helpless.

Oxford struggled to create anything of note and were overly reliant on the impressive Umotong, and the striker was rewarded with a fine effort on the turn from the edge of the box after 88 minutes.
