#Anime like Beck Mongolian Chop Squad

My favorite moment from the Beck anime is during “I’ve Got a Feeling” when Taira takes his shirt off before playing and throws it into the audience, then the camera just shows the shirt on the ground in the rain soaking in a puddle.

I love it because it’s super realistic, but also, that shit was so fucking funny.

HAHA Oh man what do I know! Hmm I'm not sure what makes an anime casual but I guess I'll just list some stuff I've enjoyed but never posted anything about lmao. So like I guess I post fanart for stuff all the time but these are fanartless from me lol

• Koko wa Greenwood! It's a 6 ep OVA? And it's all on youtube I think it's sssssuper cute and charming it's like a comfort watch for me

• Kodocha! Very cute and funny!

• lol BAKI! I only watched it so I could watch the Baki x Kengan crossover but I ended up liking it too lol. I was high when I watched all the Netflix episodes and I thought it was a comedy at first lol. Like a fighting themed comedy but I guess it's more like a really funny fighting anime? I guess I list it as casual cuz I can watch it with my brain turned off and it's so funny

• Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. I watched it a long time ago idk if it counts as casual but idk! It stuck with me and I liked the music in it

• Initial D First Stage. Tbh I only liked first stage lol but it's really exciting and interesting imo! It inspired me to draw cars then I tried drawing some cars and I was really bad at it so I stopped right away but I like the show and the music is great ofc lol

• Mushishi! I recently watched all of it cuz I'm doing a Mushishi fan comic. I guess you'd call it episodic? Easy to watch it a bit at a time I guess :•)

• Jikuu Tenshou Nazca. Idk I'm only putting it here cuz it's short. It might be best known for being featured in the opening credits of Malcolm in the Middle lmao but idk it's bizarre and kinda fun? Actually tbh it's really boring but I keep rewatching it thinking it'll be cool. To me I added it because it's something I'll put on to watch in the background lmao. For some reason I really like the art style though and at least the premise is kind of interesting. It's all on youtube too lol

• Hana Yori Dango. I guess it's a really famous shoujo manga that inspired many live action adaptions but I only watched the anime lol. I really like the art and music. It's super dramatic and the relationships are toxic as fuck lmao but it's like soaps for weebs (me)

I'm gonna add a couple manga I really like 3 AM Dangerous Zone and Bartender! 3 AM has a live action I think but I only read the manga. I liked it cuz it was like a josei but with a male lead I actually find attractive lol. It's silly and cute! It's another of those things that I read for comfort lol. Bartender has an anime too. I guess a newer one came out this year? I watched the old one and it was kinda lacking but the manga is super comfy and easy to read little bits at a time :O)

love anime conventions. will always love them. gone to them for years. but every year it gets more and more obvious to me that i'm just a hopelessly stuck in the early 2000s anime enjoyer as i am fighting for my life at the vintage resale booths paying an insane $35 for a CD that i definitely saw in a newtype ad in 2007 but i was too busy being 11 years old to write a check and mail in an order form for it at the time

screaming and crying while i walk through artist alley looking through the weeds that is JJK and genshin merch hunting for literally even an inuyasha keychain to satiate me (i find one in the last row, it is very cute). i see hand-made acrylic earrings that say "BECK" on them and i didn't even like mongolian chop squad that much but i buy them anyway because maybe this is the domino that needs to fall for me to get a shakugan no shana acrylic standee to magically appear? i put the earrings in my tote to join my $120 k-on dvd set and inuyasha keychain. someone is blasting the mashle theme "bling-bang-bong" song on a portable speaker next to me and starts doing the dance. i join them. because if i am anything, it is an anime meta-culture dance loyalist.

My anime of the week.

If you ever checked out The Prince of Tennis sometimes down the line way back, it’s something like that. Except it’s football. This is pretty awesome. Weather if you’re a sports fan or not, I think you’re going to love this. For all you can watch 12 ep’s of anime. Another week of series, another beautiful moment. And yeah, beautiful OST along it’s way.

After I finished viewing that, I’d immediately checked out the 1st ep of this being wanting to be a guitarist and get awesome on it. Also featured playing in a band. I’m really blown away. I got a feeling this will be hard sugoi.

The title is “Given”. Which reminds me, I actually need to resume Beck Mongolian Chop Squad. It’s literally been a decade that I’ve been putting that on hold as one of my backlog.

that same bookstore i mentioned in that post is also where i got my one random volume of BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad when i was like at the PEAK of me being super into the anime and i hadn't even known at that point that it was originally a manga so like imagine my excitement when i found it. i'm never fucking getting rid of that one as long as i'm alive.

I did something cool this past weekend! Well really, I did a lot of cool things, but one I wanted to mention in particular.

I was at a tiny little convention up in Maine that apparently Greg Ayres is (the only?) celebrity guest at every year. This year, he brought an unreleased English-language CD of music for the anime BECK Mongolian Chop Squad, which I have never seen, but still, I had to go listen.

Greg asked us not to record and I respected that. But it was just a cool thing to be in the room and discover something like this since I watch lost media videos on YouTube all the time.

I don't know if anyone is searching for this, but I wanted to put it out there that if you are, simply find a convention Greg Ayres is at and go talk to him (a pretty easy thing to do).

It’s a series about a girl band in high school

So kinda like what K-on was supposed to be (I mean I enjoyed K-on but I got the feeling it was manly about cute high school girls becoming friends then a girls band I mean I bearly saw much music being played/ talked about in it or about being a girl band; it was kinda let down after watching anime like beck Mongolian chop squad witch was about a rock band of sorts witch had a lot of music and what it’s like to form a band in Japan in the 90s I think it’s been awhile need to research that but yeah k-on kinda pales on about being in a band being as it ignores music aspects of being in a band while beck doesn’t so as much as I enjoyed K-on it’s a let down on the music side of things) also I have to add what also sets hello melancholic from K-on is it’s not only gonna be a real girl band but it’s a girls love kinda story but really cute one so we’re gonna have a gay girls band and I’m loving that

1st volume of hello melancholic has just been translated and I’ve enjoyed reading it so far and highly recommend you all give it a read because who knows it might get an anime if enough people get into the manga

I decided to doodle Koyuki from Beck Mongolian Chop Squad. This anime has been one of my favorites since I was in high school and it was one of things that pushed me to learn how to play guitar. Since rewatching it recently, I’ve felt nostalgic and wanted to draw him. Anyway, I can’t recommend this anime enough if you love rock music. It has an awesome soundtrack that sounds like Rage Against the Machine mixed with Nirvana. If that sounds interesting to you, go check it out right now!!

When goalless 14 year old Yukio happens upon Beck, a very strange dog, getting hassled on the street, his life changes. Ray, the owner of the strange dog, is in a local rock band. Overtime he takes Yukio under his wing, teaching him about music and inspiring him to learn to play. This anime is about music, dreams, and life.

Funny story. My coworker was recommended this anime by an idiot. She has never watched anime before and prefers more femenin things. This fool thought that because he liked the anime she would too. So she came to me and vented her great confusion and dislike of this anime after watching the first few minutes. I got to explain so much nerdness to her it was great. She was very glass eyed afterwards and we still don’t speak about it.
