Cavalero: "I watch you on the scope sometimes you know. Some of those moves, I thought only a Dax could pull them off."
"Whoever trained you has nothing to reproach themselves for. You measure up in all the ways that matter."

Big spoilers under the cut!
(Second dream, New War, Angels of the Zariman)
Guess what I had happen in the middle of an angel fight? Good old Stalker himself decided to show up! And put himself in the angel's void during the operator/drifter phase! While I was finally getting around to ranking Sirocco and don't have decent arcanes for it!

So, Duviri has happened now, and wow there is some interesting stuff in there. I have three big questions, and three big reveals I want to discuss. Let's start with the reveals. Spoilers ahead, obviously.
First thing - we find out in the finale of the quest that Dominus Thrax is not the creator of Duviri, but rather our Drifter was, creating it based on a storybook to deal with our emotions after the calamity that was the Zariman. It seems like those with a connection to the Void have the capability to make stable spaces within it - it seems like Duviri is like a hyper advanced version of the internal realms created by the Void Angels.
Thing the second - as with the Angel realms, Duviri can be accessed through the outside. Teshin ended up in Duviri after falling into the Void portal during The New War, and Void Angels are trying to get in. The Zariman appears to be a bridge between, half in the Void and half in our reality. It's not clear if only the Drifter can pass through via the Zariman, though.
Thing three - the Man in the Wall seems to know about Duviri. Some of the npcs have dialogue about black eyed children appearing, and laughing whenever the Void was mentioned. An npc also discusses hearing the rap-tap-tap of the Man trying to get in. It appears that Wally controls the Void Angels, and so it seems like he's trying to push his way into any stable reality, be it Duviri or Origin.
Now for the questions. My first big question is how did we create this place? Is it a thing done with Void powers? If so, when did we get them? Based on what I can tell from the Angels of the Zariman quest, and Duviri, I don't think the Drifter has Void powers until New War, but rather the realm was created when our consciousness came into contact with a large amount of Void energy, manifesting the place the way the Holdfasts were manifested.
The second question I have is are there any connections between Duviri and the Requiem Words? There are some not insignificant similarities between the Requiem Glyphs and the symbols used in the Owl Enigmas in Duviri. Specifically, the Owl Glyphs look like simplified versions of the Requiem Glyphs. I theorise that the Owl glyphs are descended or adapted from the Requiem ones, possibly containing an aspect of their power, hence why the Owl and Archivist is interested in them.
My third question is pretty simple, but I think it needs asking. What's with all the animals in Duviri? Are they a part of the story? Or did we just manifest jackelopes and ceramic kavats? Because if it's the latter, big mood. I too want to surround myself in cats to avoid thinking about my emotional issues
I think this whole quest can be summed up as "don't go through puberty on a spaceship stuck in a nightmare Void realm, your mood swings will get *weird*

I finally got to play the Duviri Paradox and, aside from my conflicted feelings on the quest itself, is it me or it just doesn't make sense to make it available to new players?
Like, I get that it doesn't necessarily ruin the main warframe quest experience because you can reach The New War and having them be like "ohh, wait, I see!", but.
I don't know, in between Teshin and everything I think that playing it last, after The New War (and the Zariman), isn't the payoff of seeing the Drifterer and how they learned about the Tenno much better?

Not sure how clear this is going to be with Discord compression and then tumblr compression, but, add another to the list of things that fuck me up in Warframe:

Two chairs, one with photo of a kid and their mom, the one next to it with a pobber plushie, long forgotten in an unlit corner of the ship.

a very un-professional analysis of whispers in the walls' soundtrack because i think they deserve a special mention
my feelings after completing whispers in the walls (spoilers hidden below)
ik a lot of people have already screamed about old men yaoi so i won't repeat that here and instead scream about the soundtrack. my memories are fussy so pardon me if i get anything wrong and feel free to correct me in the comments/reblogs.
don't get me wrong, warframe has always (to me, at least) had a dang good soundtrack. from the new war's 'F - C - G A♭ B♭' and the obvious mockery/corruption of 'we all lift togther' into 'for narmer', to the terrifying screams of the angels of zariman, then to the tranquility and peace of drifter's intrinsics, and finally to the wailing operatic(?) soprano of the orowyrm fight. DE knows how to use music to facilitate storytelling.
whispers in the walls is no exception.
the login music being the same as the music played when you first step foot into loid's laboratory? the sense of mystery and meloncholy behind the notes and the vocals? (i would dare say, as if it is loid's lament?) the throat singing in the combat music obviously connecting the murmur to the man in the wall? the this is what you are leitmotif playing when the operator is forcefully transferenced out of their warframe? magnificent. but not just these.
you know how, towards the end of the quest, the operator transferences into the vessel(?) in the lab and reaches out for the other vessel (i presume to be inhabited by the man in the wall)? and when the vessel in the lab touches the other vessel's face i.e. when the qte is done, the music suddenly changes from the combat music to the lab's theme? the lab's theme which, to me, sounds like loid's sorrows? the gestures of the vessels are the exact mirror of the very first cutscene of the quest. in the initial cutscene, it was albrecht caressing loid's cheek and loid leaning into his touch; with the vessels, it is the vessel in the lab caressing the invading vessel's. and you can kind of see the moment the invading vessel no longer carries the man in the wall but albrecht himself: when the vessel's face changed from anger to disbelief, then to the obvious relief as he leans into the lab vessel's touch. that's when they hit us with the harmony, the second voice that is distinct from the original one from the login theme or loid's lab, weaving the notes together with the original as the invading vessel finally closes his eyes and rests. loid and albrecht seeing - or at least feeling - their love for each other again after albrecht's departure since void-knows-how-long. also, the fact that the voices are singing together in the last line(?) of the soundtrack, and the camera is focused on loid, the man himself? (like he finally, at long last, got the final piece of the puzzle and realise that albrecht truly loves him back and wants to be with him?) i don't have words for the emotions sweeping through me apart from quietly sobbing and screaming into a pillow. i would say 'beautiful' but it's far more than that. it feels intimate; the sadness is still there because albrecht is still gone, but i feel like there's also hope that just one day, albrecht will break through, and he can go back to this world without threatening loid with the presence of the man in the wall.
a person with proper musical training can probably analyse the soundtrack much better than me. probably. but even without it, the way warframe utilises their soundtrack as part of the storytelling and play with our heartstrings - and not just to pump our blood during combat - is marvellous. i would even say that without the soundtrack being composed and arranged like this, the emotional impact of the quest wouldn't have been the same, so bravo + standing applause + thundering footsteps for those who worked on the soundtrack, and extra applause for the people in charge of the vocals. the soundtrack is a work of art.
and DE please release the soundtrack soon please i'm begging you. you bet i'll be looping the shit out of it in my orbiter.

Trying to peace together Void/The Indifference/Man in The Wall timeline, bits and pieces of spoilers so putting under a cut:
Albrecht is the first to discover a way into the Void, his fear manifests the Man in The Wall/The Indifference. It starts hunting him. He forsakes continuity and opts to die once his time is up, but it seems that he essentially committed suicide by time-travel by sending himself to 1999 so a) Wally couldn't hunt Loid; b) he could somehow stop/control Wally. So far it seems he failed and 1999 will have a "fixing the timeline" plot but this is, so far, is speculating.
Anyways, back to Warframe.
Nevertheless, the Orokin harness the power of the Void, it is used for long-distance space travel. The Orokin empire is at its peak and there seem to be no problems regarding Wally.
The Tau Void-jump accident happens, one (?) child in the Zariman makes a deal with Wally and thus the Tenno are born; there is a timeline split where the deal either isn't made or the Tenno are never saved (and only one child survives and grows up to become the Drifter and creates Duviri with their mind powers).
The children of the Operator timeline are saved by the Orokin, Margulis works with them to put them in a state of lucid dreaming to control the Void powers. The Old War happens and Ballas starts working on the Warframes.
(Random note: I have no idea at what point the Heart of Deimos becomes relevant, going by the new quest it looks related to the vessels which work like proto-Warframes with transference; SUPPOSEDLY it is the source of Tenno's power but there is no actual lore bits connecting the Heart and Tenno functionally, as in, Ballas actually needing it for the Warframe project.)
The Tenno become child soldiers, wielding Warframes. Their relationship to Wally is unknown, except for Rell - he became an exile and bound his soul to his frame, Harrow, to keep back Wally. We have no idea why he did that, what function that served or why was it necessary to keep Wally back.
The Angels of the Zariman update showed us that the Zariman plugged a huge hole that separates the Void with our world, so perhaps Rell/Harrow were also plugging a metaphorical hole, acting as a vessel for Wally.
Chains of Harrows happens, Wally is released - this poisons Duviri and the islands start being destroyed/degraded. Now we know that Wally has gained the ability to "move" more freely but we don't know the details - the Void is not really one place but more like a mix between a liminal space and an entity.
Wally now torments the Operator, so far its motives are unknown but it is interested about the Operator paying back a debt they owe (presumably for granting the Tenno their Void powers).
I am convinced some of these events run parallel one another and also we have to take in the Duviri paradox and Drifter entering Operator timeline in mind, but right now we don't know what Wally wants with Drifter or even if it cares about them.

Kahl’s Garrison and the Factions
When I wrote for the Syndicates, people seemed to enjoy it, so I figured I’d make an unofficial part 2! Now if only I knew how to link them to each other…
Anyway, minor spoilers for the Angels of the Zariman quest line, so you’ve been warned? Hope you enjoy!
Ostron: When Konzu takes a day off to inspect the Garrison, he isn’t sure what to expect. Sure, he knows a rare few Grineer will turn traitor against the Queens. But their kind has spent so long trying to destroy Cetus, he’s still a bit iffy. Konzu is surprised by the general lack of guards as he walks through the camp, until he realizes that they have gathered for a meal. As he sees Horrek serving the various people, chatting amicably with them, his heart is set at ease. And a few moments, he gets an early lunch.
Solaris United/ Vox Solaris: Chipper has been sending back regular reports. Eudico, the Biz, and Little Duck all know about Kahl’s setup, what he’s trying to do. They offered him extraction. Chipper turned it down. Told them he was doing good work there. He regularly sends supplies back and forth through their rail agents. Eudico has a small smile whenever they receive a request for some “Void Polish”. And hopes the headaches from the “mission accomplished” is worth it the next day, the crazy muckers.
Vent Kids: Kahl knew what children were. The information dumped in his head while still in a tube included basic details. How they weren’t a real threat. Saw a few from a distance back when he still patrolled the Plains. This small bunch were a ragtag group though. Strange clothing, and even stranger words. He knew he didn’t know many words, but even Chipper seemed confused by them. One came up to him. “So, you the tubey that nabbed a Drive from one of those muckin’ factories, yeah?” He looked at Chipper, who merely shrugged. Looking back at the kid, he nodded. “Yes. Kahl think.” The kid seemed happy with that. “Right-o. Glad to see one of you tubeys acting logical. You keep ruinin’ them glinty masks, eh?” Kahl understood that. He gave a fierce grin in response.
Entrati: After the disastrous first attempt at having Grineer arrive on Deimos, Daughter has tried to be quieter about her affiliation. But the family can tell. Son acts more annoyed, his sister seeming to get away with her actions while his are so harshly persecuted (secretly he’s proud of her rebellion). Mother just ignores her child, as she does most days, only caring for the day to day running of the Necralisk. Grandmother simply watches from afar, too amused to do much else. Father, though? Daughter begins to find surreptitiously placed supplies and armaments. Notes on weapon plans, outfitted for ground troops. She knows exactly who they came from. She doesn’t bring it up. But internally, there’s a strange feeling that has been absent for ages. Gratitude.
Quills: Kahl noticed someone watching in the distance. Remembering the strange man and the dagger, he put the camp on alert. By the time the sun was setting, the person was gone. He didn’t think about it until a few days later, and the person was back. Kahl borrowed a vulkar from Jarka to get a better look at them. They seemed to be in a fancy outfit, but kind of same to Horrek. A mask covered their face. As he handed the rifle back, the person disappeared. They continued to arrive every few days, never coming closer. Kahl put it out of his mind. As long as they didn’t shoot, or wear a Veil, he guess it didn’t matter.
Holdfasts: Quinn heard various stories from the kids who came back (They were just children, subjected to terrors beyond reason, and the Golden Lords made them into soldiers). Apparently, Executor Ballas had managed to take control of the Sentients, and even began to control the entire system. Until the Zariman children put a stop to him. Now the children (with eyes more haunted than even theirs) told him about a Grineer who had begun to free others. Quinn considered that for a moment. As far as he knew, Grineer were only ever good for labor or bloodshed. That’s it. But… Here he was, a void manifestation of a dead man. So, maybe a Grineer who developed a taste for rebellion and freedom was not too outlandish. He hoped they succeeded.
Again, let me know what you think! If I had to make a third part, it’d probably be of my own idea regarding Kahl actually meeting the Tenno, but we’ll see.
