I'm just a simple guy, I live from day to day A ray of sunshine melts my frown and blows my blues away There's nothing more that I can say but on a day like today I pass the time away and walk a quiet mile with you All I need from you is all your love All you got to give to me is all your love

Prologue
1994 was an eventful year for the Kiszka twins. After years of unsuccessful attempts to launch respectful solo projects they could build upon after the infamous breakup of their band, they had been finally labelled as “has-beens of rock” when grunge hit the mainstream, only to rise up again like a phoenix from the dust of their once stellar career.
Josh and Jake, THE ultimate enfants terrible of the 70s rock&roll music scene. Angel-faced devils, as they were called.
It was no longer true, but it kept haunting them anyway. How could it not.
Born to free-thinking parents who never made it to Frisco with the other beatniks, but instead decided to “settle down” in a small town in Michigan after their mother became pregnant, they were raised – together with their younger brother Samuel – in what you could call a “respectful neighborhood”. But everything was different behind the closed doors, as their parents never grew out of love for art, music and literature.
Their mother was not only a wonderful and respected teacher, but she could also bake devilishly good sweet treats, so the neighbors somehow “tolerated” the fact that she often indulged in painting “weird pictures.”
Their father played the piano in church on Sundays, while their own house was filled with the sound of delta blues, bebop and rockabilly on Friday nights.
Even as young kids, they never had to hide their passion for the new music made by Elvis and Chuck and Little Richard. In fact, their father encouraged it, together with their attempts to learn how to play and write their own stuff. Their longing to create was inextinguishable, partly inherited and wholeheartedly shared, so by mid sixties, they were already in a band. Their band, which they founded together with Sam’s friend, a talented percussionist from the school orchestra. And a cool kid, too.
After the wave of new British bands hit the US coast like a tsunami, invading the music scene as well as their own ears, they finally found their own sound and everything snowballed pretty quickly during 1968 and 1969. They got signed, they hit the road and their career literally exploded! Air Javelin were on their way to become one of the most influential bands in rock&roll history.
Fast forward back to 1994, they now found themselves sitting next to David Letterman, eager and ready to discuss their new mutual music project.
It was good. In fact, it was great, already receiving many well-deserved accolades and praises from the very same people and magazines who used to shit on their music more than two decades ago.
The only problem being that they were probably the only people who were eager and ready to discuss it at the moment.
Josh’s recent coming-out was already old news and the questions that focused on that grew stale pretty quickly. It was the 90s after all, and things were getting better slowly but steadily. If anything, it made the message he managed to lace their new music with even more acute and sharp. The first single was a huge success not only among their old fans; it hit the charts with nearly the same force their old hits once did.
Unfortunately, two weeks after the long-awaited release of the whole album, a book appeared on shelves of bookstores all across the country, and turned into a sensation almost overnight.
Written by their former road manager Robert Mole, it was packed with juicy and scandalous stories from their heyday. The timing was deliberate. Robert just wanted a piece of the freshly baked cake, and so did the publisher.
A lot of it had already been somewhat known, and perceived as public secrets for years and years. People may not have known all the details Robert decided to disclose, but it shocked no one. Those were the stories and anecdotes from a long-gone era. EVERYONE was already familiar with the infamous octopus story anyway, even though no one knew what really happened that day. That was the beauty of it. And as Jake already said in another interview, Robert had spent most of those days either drunk or high, often both, so a lot of the shit mentioned in that book was simply made up or blown out of proportion.
So, when Letterman asked about the contents of the book again, Jake replied nonchalantly: “Let’s put it this way, David. I can’t remember half of it, and neither can he!”
The audience laughed, but the host did not give up.
There was one more story, one that they had managed to keep hidden, but which kept haunting them because it was extremely and painfully personal. Like a cold sore, it would never go away. It was also the reason why Sam still refused to speak with either of them.
They used to like Robert; he was once regarded and treated almost as a sixth member of the group. However, the fact that he decided to include this in the book turned him into an unscrupulous piece of shit in their eyes.
Back in the day, when their heads were so big it was a wonder that they didn’t float above their shared stage, they thought no one could possibly push them out of their pedestal. But new bands appeared, some of them equally good. Bands such as the British wonder Mellow Yellow, with their charismatic, blonde frontman…
“Alright, alright,” Letterman raised his voice before the applause died down completely. “But I’m sure EVERYONE wants to know the truth behind those accusations that the real reason why Air Javelin split up was the affair you BOTH had with the late Chris Turpin.”

x
Spencer walks out of the RV.
"Hey, guys. The murders we found in Orange County in 1985 might not have been his first. I'll call Garcia about it."
Just as Spencer steps off to the side, JJ calls Hotch's phone.
"Hotchner."
"We have access to the local emergency alert system. The secretary personally set it up herself. It's in the city command center."
"Good. Get an LAPD unit to take you over there, get the system up and running, and I need you to start talking to him immediately."
"Excuse me?"
"It's gonna take me too long to get there from here. I need you to talk to him, JJ. I'll give you some strategies. The unsub may still be in this area, and if he surfaces, we need to be close."
"I'm not a hostage negotiator."
"I'm sorry. You are today."
"You need to be more sympathetic. Give me the phone," you say to Hotch, which he does. "JJ, listen to me. You can do this. I believe in you. Don't doubt yourself because you are going to do great. This situation sucks but you're the best person to do this."
"No, you are," she chuckles.
"No, I'm not. You're going to do great."
You hang up on JJ and hand Hotch his phone before going over to Spencer who is still on the phone with Penelope.
"How's my main man doing?"
"On the completely safe assumption that you're not talking about me, let's just say I wouldn't want to be this unsub when Morgan finally gets his hands on him."
"That bad, huh?"
"Has he ever yelled at you before?"
"Touche," she laughs. "How can I be of service?"
"How far back can you go with your records, Garcia?"
"How far back are you talking?"
"A murder investigation from 1968."
"Give me a second." As she is typing, he puts her on speakerphone so everyone can hear. "Okay, let me preface this by saying that a forty-year-old murder in a suburb of Los Angeles is an absurdly impossible request. Having said that, yours truly happens to know that the Pollack Library at Cal State--"
"Garcia," Hotch cuts her off.
"Yes, sorry, sir. Anyway, this murder was quite a scandal. Nora Flynn was a prostitute and a drug addict living in a desert community just outside of Los Angeles. It appears rough bikers were her stock in trade, and one fateful day, she and her client were murdered by her thirteen-year-old son Billy. Both were shot to death. The customer, ironically named John, was able to tell the police before he died that Billy made him beg for his life and then shot him anyway."
"That's him," Derek says.
"He was convicted but was a juvenile. In 1973, he was eighteen when he was released and was never heard from again."
"Oh, he was heard from," Emily scoffs.
"He never released a statement as to why he killed them, although it does appear his childhood was horrific. I'm sending you a picture of him on the day he was released to your PDAS."
"Make sure you send the files to JJ."
"Of course, my liege. Garcia bids you ad--"
"Penelope, wait a minute."
Derek takes the phone off speakerphone to talk to her privately, and you can safely assume it's to make up with her. Hotch's phone rings and he answers JJ's call. She must be at the command center.
"Okay, I'm here, Hotch."
"JJ, listen. The most important thing is that you build rapport with him."
"Rapport. Okay."
"I'm asking you to do one of the hardest things that anybody in our position ever has to do. I need you to empathize with him. Sympathize. Don't judge the things he's done. Garcia's sending you a file on him and his childhood. Look it over. It'll help. If he hears that you care about him, that's how you're gonna get him to care about Ellie. He has to understand that he's putting her through the same pain he went through as a child."
She's right, you're the best person for this particular job but you're not there right now.
"Uh, okay."
"It has to be his decision because power is too important to him."
"Power? Okay."
"You're going to be fine. Just talk to him. Go over the file and start when you're ready."
"Wait, you're going to be on the line, right?"
"I'll be listening."
"Give me the phone again." Hotch hands the phone to you. "JJ, listen to me. You're a mom. You're a good mom, great even. I know this is scary but what would you do if Henry was taken? How would you talk to someone whose mom didn't take care of him? Use that side of yourself and I promise you, he'll listen."
"Okay."
Hotch turns the radio on and everyone stays still as they wait for JJ to start. She mentally prepares herself before speaking into the radio hoping that he is near one and listening.
"Billy Flynn? Mr. Flynn, I--I don't know for sure that you can hear me, but my name is Jennifer Jareau. I work for the FBI as a communications liaison for the behavioral, uh... Okay. Mr. Flynn, I--I--I want to talk to you about letting Ellie Spicer go. I mean, I want to ask you to... Uh, see, I'm not a hostage negotiator. I've never done anything like this at all ever, but, um, sometimes circumstances, it's..." She's freaking out but you know she can do this. "Look, you can tell I'm not a hostage negotiator, but I am a mother. I know what your mother did to you when you were little. What she was, what she made you watch, what she let men do to you, and it makes me so... It's just not fair, and no one--no one--can make that better. I wish I could. I do.
"But... If I--if I could somehow go back there and, you know, make what was happening to you stop... I wish I could just... pick you up and just tell you that it'll all be okay. That's what moms are supposed to do. They're not supposed to be the cause of your pain, they're supposed to make it go away. They're supposed to hold you and tell you everything is gonna be alright. They're supposed to tell you that thunder are angels bowling and that it's okay to be afraid of the dark and that it's not silly to think there might be monsters in your closet and that it's okay that if you want to climb in bed with them just this once because it's scary in the room all alone.
"They're supposed to say it's okay to be afraid, and not be the thing you're afraid of. Most importantly, they're supposed to love you no matter what. What happened to you isn't fair, it's not right, but um... I'm supposed to empathize with you. Sympathize. Understand, but I can't. That--that would be a lie.
"The truth is, I don't understand what you've done. I don't sympathize with you killing people all these years, and I especially don't understand you taking Ellie. What I can do is tell you what a mother should tell you, and that is you can't take away your pain by hurting someone else. That doesn't make all the nights you went to bed scared and alone any better if you scare someone else the way you're scaring Ellie.
"What happened to you isn't fair, but what you're doing to her isn't fair either. If anyone should understand what that feels like, it's you. You have the power. You can do what you want to do. For once, you can choose to use that power to do for Ellie what should have been done for you. You can choose to let her go. You can choose to teach her that, yes, there are monsters, and it's okay to be afraid of them. But it's not okay to let them win, and it's not okay to be one."
Damn, she's good. You often think what your life would be like if you let the man that raped you control your life. Instead, you decided to become a better person than him and help those who can't help themselves. You wish you could have done the same for Hannah. You respect her space and wish you were more in contact with her, but you know she's happy with her family in New Jersey.
Emily's phone rings and she answers it while stepping off to the side.
"Agent Prentiss. ... Hello, Doctor. ... Yes, sir. ... Thank you." She looks at Derek with a solemn look. "Both of Kristin's lungs collapsed. She died a few minutes ago."
"Ellie's got no one now."
A police officer calls Adam regarding Ellie, and he looks at Derek with hopeful eyes.
"He let her go. He got out of the car and he just let her go. She's in a house about six blocks from here."
"Where is he now?"
"He's in another house, up the street."
"JJ. I don't know if you know. He let her go. You did it," Hotch says over the phone.
Ellie is with several officers when you arrive, and the entire SWAT team is en route. One of the officers sees Adam and immediately walks up to him.
"We have SWAT on the way, Kurz, and an HPT team."
"Yeah, but they'll be a while. We had a phone sent in with a direct line to this one." The phone rings and Adam immediately answers it. "This is Detective Kurzbard, LAPD." He hands the phone to Derek. "He wants to talk to you."
"What?" Derek listens to what Billy says before hanging up. "He wants me to come in."
"Morgan."
"I know this guy, Hotch. He didn't kill me before, he's not gonna kill me this time."
"No."
"I believe in my original profile. He will not hurt me unless I show him fear."
"Listen—"
"When you needed us, we were there for you. This one is mine."
"You sure?"
"As I've ever been."
Hotch allows him to go into the house alone while everyone else stays outside. You're not sure what is said inside or how Derek handled the situation, but you do know one thing. Only Derek came out. It doesn't matter if Derek was justified or not. No one will question it otherwise.

Frank wanted to be closer to you to keep a close eye on you despite his wife's protests. She's at home watching the kids and desperately needs him back with her. She understands his need to be near you, but she doesn't understand his obsession with you. You had such potential when you were younger, but he let you go. He let you move out and start a life of your own, and that was his first mistake.
Frank won't let this go to waste. He was shocked to hear you had gotten out of prison which means what he did didn't work. No matter. He's not done with you just yet.
"Baby, I wish you would just come home," Clarissa says over the phone.
"I can't and you know it."
"I need help with the kids we already have. She won't rat us out because she has nothing to suspect. She would have done it already."
"Let me worry about that. I'll call you later. Don't fuck this up, Clarissa. I mean it."
Frank grabs his binoculars after hanging up with his wife and points it at the building across the street from the apartment he rented for in cash. It's a month-by-month so he can use it for however long he wants. He waits five minutes before smiling widely at what he sees.
You walk to the open window and close it but the curtains are still open. You're wearing only a thin t-shirt, unaware that he's right across the street watching you. Spencer comes up behind you and pulls you into him which makes your nipples harden under the t-shirt. He kisses your neck and you turn in his arms to kiss his lips. Spencer picks you up and you wrap your legs around his waist, and Frank pictures the feeling of your legs wrapped around his waist.
He smirks knowing it's going to be so much fun to break you.
"A family is a place where minds come in contact with one another. If these minds love one another, the home will be as beautiful as a flower garden. But if these minds get out of harmony with one other it is like a storm that plays havoc with the garden." – The Buddha

Christmas is Better Spent Together
Chapter Five: 1968
Read on AO3
Start << Prev < > Next
Rating: General Audiences
Categories: Gen, M/M
Fandom: Good Omens
Relationships: Aziraphale & Crowley, Aziraphale/Crowley
Characters: Aziraphale, Crowley
Words: 789
7 times Aziraphale and Crowley spent Christmas together (and 1 time they didn't)
Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA - December 21st, 1968
“It’s a lot bigger in person,” Aziraphale said, staring out across the horizon to the space shuttle.
“I know! It’s great, isn’t it?” Crowley exclaimed, smiling ear to ear. Aziraphale had rarely, if ever, seen the Demon this excited. It was as endearing as it was disturbing. “First humans to ever orbit the moon! Ha! Soon enough they’ll be walking on it! Wouldn’t that be something? Oh, I can’t wait!”
“Apollo is an interesting name choice, I think. Greek god of the sun.” Aziraphale commented, noticing the ship’s name.
“They’re trying to get to the stars, angel.” My stars went unsaid. Crowley had never told Aziraphale of his time before the Fall. He had never once mentioned his role in creation or his fascination with the cosmos. Yet, sometimes, Aziraphale would look at him the same way that Angel did all those millennia ago, and Crowley thinks his angel might already know. Might remember.
Aziraphale looked at the Fallen Angel beside him. He looked at the sharp features highlighted in the first rays of the rising sun, just the same as it did during the very star’s creation. “Indeed they are, dear boy, and look how far they’ve come.”
Crowley’s soft smile turned prideful, “You know, this is probably my favourite project I’ve done so far. Don’t get me wrong, the whole turning a motorway into Odegra thing is fantastic. Going great. We’re finishing up the plans for it now and they’re supposed to start building it in the early 70s. But this ‘Space Race’ is… it’s fun, Aziraphale.”
The Angel raised a brow in surprise. “I didn’t realize this was some of your work. How many commendations have you gotten for having the two most powerful countries in the world compete over their research?”
“None, and there won’t be any,” Crowley admitted. “I don’t plan on reporting to Hell over this. This is a personal investment. There’s nothing evil about seeking out knowledge.”
“You told Adam and Eve the same thing and look what happened,” Aziraphale pointed out, not unkindly.
Crowley gestured to the thousands of people around them, anxiously awaiting the Apollo 8 launch. “This happened! I may have regrets, but giving Eve that apple is not one of them.”
Aziraphale pondered the other’s words, then chuckled to himself, “Imagine that. Knowledge spread worldwide because of an apple.”
The Demon’s eyes lit up almost immediately. His formerly prideful smirk turned downright devious. “Apple. Now there’s an idea.”
Before Aziraphale could contemplate the landslide of technology developments he’d indirectly just inspired, a countdown started.
“10… 9…”
Thousands of people gathered.
“8… 7…”
Thousands of backgrounds unified.
“6… 5…”
Thousands of voices heard.
“4… 3…”
Crowley watched something breathtaking. Aziraphale watched Crowley.
“2… 1…”
Thousands of years shared.
“Takeoff.”
They all came together and joined in the wake of something unprecedented.
—————
Soho, London, England - December 24th, 1968
“There we are! All set up and ready to go.” Crowley stated, standing over the bulky television set he’d brought over from his flat. He turned the television on and tuned it to NASA’s broadcast before throwing himself onto the sofa beside Aziraphale’s.
(The TV wasn’t tuned to pick up the broadcast’s signal, but Crowley didn’t know that, and so the TV didn’t either and opened to the correct channel anyway.)
Aziraphale stared at the screen in confusion. “So they’re meant to be making an announcement?”
“Yup. Any minute now.” Crowley confirmed. “I bet it’s gonna be something cool. ‘Humanity has brought light to the dark side of the moon’ or something poetic like that.”
Aziraphale sat back in his chair, at ease. “Humanity does love their literature.”
Crowley hummed in agreement, “Sounds like someone else I know.”
Static crackled and an image appeared on the screen. Something round and pale. Crowley sat on the edge of his seat while Aziraphale gaped, “Is that–”
“Yeh!”
“The moon?”
“Yea! They did it, angel! They really did it! Ha!” Crowley barked a laugh and his hands flew to the back of his head. “They made it!”
“We are now approaching lunar sunrise,” a voice sounded through the static. “And uh, for all the people back on Earth, the crew of Apollo 8 has a message that we would like to send to you.”
Crowley leaned in eagerly.
“In the Beginning, God created the Hea–”
“What kind of bollocks is this?!” Crowley snapped in disbelief, much to Aziraphale’s amusement. Despite the harsh words, Crowley couldn’t find it in himself to quite hate the Book of Genesis, not with its third chapter.
“–And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you on the good Earth.”

for the past four years i've posted on here an end-of-the-year list entitled 'comix of the year' (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) and though i've read 136 completed series this year and 610 completed series over all, i'm going to skip it this year in favor of a broader look at my year.
the fact of the matter is that the quality of current comics has gone down in what i believe to be a genuinely unprecedented way. even at the height of the comics code, even in the gritty early 2000s you'd still find the occasional gem but dc comics is currently publishing a harley quinn fart comic so prospects are grim and i think it's a little hard not to be disheartened by atrocities like what the 'new golden age' line ended up being and some such events. you can still find my published work over at the back issue! magazine talking about the obscure corners of this wonderful medium (check out my latest article in #155 with many more on the way, including january's keith giffen tribute) and you can also occasionally find me rambling over on substack but other ways of engaging with the present state of modern comics are getting to be bad for the heart.
on the other hand, i've had by far the best year of my life. that's entirely because it's been a year spent with my girlfriend/love of my life/my favorite artist @redstoneofaja and the creative endeavors we've undertaken together are by far my proudest accomplishment -- i never thought i could ever participate in the making of a comic but we've made several based around richard stark's parker, and we've even collected them in a free-to-read zine over on issu! i've been writing more than ever, reading more than ever, watching more movies than i have in years and these rediscovered passions has everything to do with having the best partner (creative & otherwise, everywhere!) i could ever ask for.
but in terms of the art i've engaged with, here's some of this year's favorites in no particular order:
comics it's been a year of crime comics, with very few exceptions here and there. state of the industry aside, what's been mentioned here is all stuff i'd consider an absolute all-timer by now.
road to perdition (1998)
gotham central (2003)
bad weekend (2019)
creepy presents alex toth (2015)
asterios polyp (2009)
from hell (1991)
angel love (1986)
100 bullets (1999)
sin city: the hard goodbye (1992) + sin city: family values (1997)
dead eyes (2019)
the deviant (2023)
books i've spent the year making my way through donald westlake's bibliography and better fiction books i have not read. life changing doesn't even begin to cover it!
butcher's moon (1974) - richard stark
the dame (1968) - richard stark
a jade in aries (1969) - tucker coe
memory (1963) - donald westlake
films a more eclectic mix, with a particular fondness for '50s cinema as per usual.
the big knife (1955)
joker: folie a deux (2024)
attack (1956)
occult (2009)
in & out (1997)
dick tracy (1990)
it came from outer space (1953)
requiem for a heavyweight (1956)

THE DARKNESS OF A BRIGHT ORANGE MICKEY MOUSE -- WHEN THE DRUGS HIT YOU TOO HARD IN '68.
PIC INFO: Resolution at 960x1488 -- Spotlight on cover page to British underground newspaper, "International Times," a.k.a., "it" issue #27. March 8-21, 1968. Cover artist unknown.
"In some ways "IT" created its constituency and at its height was selling 44,000 copies every fortnight – I’m told that number translated into about 200,000 readers. It covered every aspect of the counterculture, from the Hells Angels, skinheads, pacifists, vegetarians, communal living, sexual revolution, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.’

Stanley Booth
American music journalist who chronicled ‘the mystery of the Rolling Stones’ in their pomp
As a group of Hells Angels beat and stabbed a Black teenager to death a few feet away from where the Rolling Stones were playing on warm evening in California in 1969, the writer Stanley Booth watched the mayhem from a vantage point next to his friend Keith Richards’s guitar amplifiers.
The murder of 18-year-old Meredith Hunter by thugs hired to act as security men for the Stones’ free concert at Altamont Speedway marked an end to the peace-and-love idyll of the 1960s. It also gave Booth a dramatic climax to the book he would write about the Stones and their rise from London’s clubs to worldwide success and notoriety.
The Stones embraced Booth, who has died aged 82, not least because he represented an authentic connection to the blues music from which they had taken their inspiration. He had been brought up in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the music’s centres, and knew many of the musicians whose work they admired and imitated.
Long-haired, silk-scarved and thoroughly familiar with mood-altering substances, he was perfectly in sync with the social currents they embodied. He met them when, having established himself as a contributor to major American magazines, he travelled to London in 1968 to cover the trial of their founder, Brian Jones, who had been charged with possession of cannabis. “I wrote a story,” he recalled many years later, “but I had only glimpsed – in Brian’s eyes as he glanced up from the dock – the mystery of the Rolling Stones.”
That mystery was the subject of the book he planned to write when he joined the Stones on tour in the US the following year. He slipped so easily into their inner circle that soon they were inviting him to share not just their confidences – Anita Pallenberg told him that Jones had missed shows and recording sessions because he had broken his hand while hitting her – but their drugs. When a fan handed Charlie Watts a yellow-green LSD tab, Booth wrote that “Charlie asked, ‘D’you want it?’ ‘I ain’t too sure about this street acid,’ I said. ‘Maybe Keith will want it.’”
Published in 1974 as Dance With the Devil, and republished in the UK in 1985 as The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones, his book brought to bear an observant eye and literary skills that elegantly stripped the varnish off the story, leaving posterity with a faithful eye-witness account of the group’s activities and their social milieu during their prime years.

Booth was born in Waycross, Georgia, near the Okefenokee swamp, a vast wetland straddling the border with Florida. His father, Irving, was the vice-president of an insurance company, while his mother, Ruby (nee McClellan), was a schoolteacher. He studied English at Memphis State University and remembered being thrown out of a Ray Charles show for sharing a table with some Black fellow students. He began postgraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans before breaking off in 1964 to return to Memphis, where he began his career as a journalist.
His background, his love of music and his social circle gave him access to local subjects that interested the editors of national magazines. In 1968 Esquire published his description of Elvis Presley’s life among his courtiers: “When he puts the cigar between his teeth a wall of flame erupts before him. Momentarily startled, he peers into the blaze of matches and lighters offered by willing hands. With a nod, he designates one of the crowd, who steps forward, shaking, and then, his moment of glory, of service to the King, at an end, he retires into anonymity. ‘Thank ya very much,’ says Elvis.”
Typically, the real interest comes when Booth aims slightly away from the target. The source of the best Elvis anecdotes is Dewey Phillips, the first radio DJ to play Presley’s records, found by the author working in a furniture store 20 years after his heyday. One of those tales, involving the actress Natalie Wood, was too ripe for the Esquire piece but is included in Rythm Oil, a collection of Booth’s magazine pieces published in 1994.
The book’s UK edition opened with a mood-setting series of colour photographs taken by William Eggleston, Booth’s friend and fellow Memphian: freight trains, cotton fields, diners and lonesome highways. The pieces included portraits of other local musicians, including the bluesman Furry Lewis, who had spent decades sweeping the city’s streets, and the ill-starred jazz pianist Phineas Newborn.
For all his warm empathy with most of the musicians he encountered, there was also evidence of the essential splinter of ice in the writer’s heart. About his piece for Rolling Stone on Janis Joplin’s poorly received visit to Memphis in 1969, he later reflected: “She died, so I hear, bearing me ill will. Can’t please everyone.”
With a reputation, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper, as “a libertine and a wild man”, in 1971 he was fined for growing his own marijuana and broke his back a few years later after falling down a waterfall in Georgia while high on LSD. A second collection of pieces, Red Hot and Blue, was published in 2019 and he leaves an unfinished memoir and unpublished biographies of the songwriter Johnny Mercer and the singer Gram Parsons, a friend who was also from Waycross.
Booth was married three times. After the death in 2014 of his third wife, the poet Diann Blakely, with whom he had lived in Georgia and Florida, he returned to Memphis. He is survived by a daughter, Ruby Booth, from another relationship.

Here's a damn solid amount of all the different kinds of media that I like to think both can definitely fit well in and could actually share the same universe as one of the most acclaimed animes ever made's absolute peak in my opinion, Attack On Titan, specifically the first two seasons of the anime, the Royal Government arc in the manga and a Mikasa and Historia-led sequel series with the subtitle Deathwatch, which you can both read and see below for yourself right about here:
• Julius Avery's Overlord (2018)
• Gore Verbinski's Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy
• Jon Turteltaub's National Treasure Duology
• Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones Series (1 - 4)
• Stephen Sommers' The Mummy (1999)
• M.J. Bassett's Solomon Kane (2009)
• Michael Mann's Thief (1981) & Heat (1995)
• Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake & Control
• Frank Darabont's The Shawshank Redemption & The Green Mile
• William Friedkin's The Exorcist (1973)
• William Peter Blatty's Exorcist III: Legion (1990)
• Zack Snyder, Jay Oliva & Eric Carrasco's Twilight Of The Gods (Netflix Series)
• Chris Carter's The X Files Series (First nine seasons, Fight The Future, Millennium & The Lone Gunmen)
• Joss Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer & Angel
• Vince Gilligan's Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul & El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
• Kurt Sutter's Sons Of Anarchy & Mayans MC
• John Carpenter's Big Trouble In Little China

Claire and Brevity are immediately at odds in their approach to the ink, and the potential power that it represents has not gone unnoticed. When a representative from the Muses Corps arrives at the Library to advise Brevity, the angel Rami and the erstwhile Hero hunt for answers in other realms. The true nature of the ink could fundamentally alter the afterlife for good or ill, but it entirely depends on who is left to hold the pen.

► BIOGRAPHY
Henley was born in Los Angeles, CA to Emilia and Alexander Jacobs. The beautiful sight of the baby girl was expected, what took everyone off guard was that Henley was collateral beauty to her mother's passing whilst in childbirth. The trauma enough that it sent the business tycoon running with his new bundle of joy to Denver. The girl knew the basics of her parents' story; Emilia moved to LA with a dream and $20 dollars in her back pocket. She had a face that belonged in the movies, and she was sure she was going to make it happen. Alexander came from a long line of old wealth - the industrialists that paved the way for the new business magnates of today. He saw her sing at an open mic night and he was a sucker. She saw him from the stage and sung to him - the rest was history. It was why he took the loss so hard, turning to alcohol so quickly like his father before him. Meanwhile, little Henley was trying everything to have any sort of connection. When she couldn't, she found herself boarding herself up. To a degree, she blamed herself. It only made sense that he wanted nothing to do with her when she killed mom. Though her father's choice of escape was alcohol, the brunette would easily slip away into fantasy worlds thanks to books when things got hard. She promised herself that no matter how dark life got, she was to be her own beacon of light; if she couldn't do that for herself, then she would be that for others. She was the quiet girl in school that everyone wanted to know, and she hated it. The reasoning being that she knew she had more to offer than her looks, but that was all anyone really saw in her. Even her own father told her to utilize her looks to get ahead. Instead of anger, it only fueled her to prove everyone wrong. She was in honor society, the president of the physics club in high school, took AP courses in art history and government policy. There was only one person who truly saw her, and that was her first love in high school. Though she had friends, none of them were every as close nor as understanding as Astrid. It was pure - they just wanted to know one another and be around one another. Her father actually liked Astrid, so did all her friends - though no one but their closest circle knew what they genuinely were behind closed doors. What was most important was that she let her walls down around Astrid; she truly felt free enough to be herself shamelessly. When the first semester of college hit, Astrid claimed she wasn't ready to come out and that was the end of what Henley felt was her once in 20 lifetimes. Maybe the fact her father liked Astrid was a red flag. Maybe she did something wrong - didn't love her the way she needed. Either way, her walls came back up and they were stronger than ever. It was that break-up that became the foundation of her inspiration for her first couple EPs. When the second EP came out, Henley didn't expect the attention it got. Now as she works on her first studio album, Henley is cementing her walls in place and attempting to navigate this chaos of the entertainment industry; where no one cares who you are, but cares who you know and the number of followers you attain.
► PERSONALITY
Henley is bright and sunny, but facades as a black cat. She is hellbent on keeping people at an arm's distance, seeing that she opened herself up fully only to get hurt. Her new motto is to leave before getting left. It's funny though, because she does have a big heart and she's prone to loving hard once a crush is formulated. She's a supportive and loyal friend once you have her in your court. Henley is prone to boredom and goes through these bursts of needing to go out, or needing to stay in - there's no in between. Henley knows she's sought after, so she likes to make people jump through hoops only to then walk away and throw their number away. She's into literature, art history and poetry. She actually writes poetry, herself, and her favorite thing to do is get lost in an art museum. Most don't know this about her, but Henley likes to game. She utilizes gaming to alleviate anxiety. She is just a huge ball of sunshine squished into a protective prison she built for herself, okay?
► PLOTS
The Best Friend: This person was most likely there when the Astrid situation went down and is Henley's shoulder to cry on as well as her go-to friend when she needs to get out of the house. They've been friends since middle school, possibly before! There's so many ways to play them - the best friend could be tired of Henley's self-recklessness or they could be the enabler. - OPEN
Childhood Friends: Same as above, these people were there during the Astrid scenario. They could meet at any point in their growing up - but these people would be close to Henley and they're almost joined at the hip. - OPEN (x3)
The PR Friend: Someone in the music industry who is utilizing Henley for clout. Henley wouldn't be aware of this, or maybe she is and is just stringing this person along - but I think it would be interesting to have a fake friend who Henley thinks is genuine. - OPEN
Ride or Die: Was a hook-up in the process but they wound up getting high and just talking all night. This is someone that Henley could sit in absolute silence with and be content, or when she's flying off the handlebars, this person can bring her back. Smoke sessions, deep conversations in the AMs. - OPEN
But, Do I Suck?: The music testers. This person is someone Henley runs her music by before putting it out into the world. They could be her genuine friends in the music industry, or maybe they went to NYU together and they met that way. - OPEN (x2)
Once You Have Me, Will You Want Me Still?: Blind date that turned into a hookup and Henley left before they woke up because she got scared. Ya know, she just doesn't want history to repeat itself. - OPEN
