Personal recap Skate Canada 2022 - Women SP
I think this SP was much better than that at Skate America, more clean skates! This is quite an open GP on who will win because many skater have good chances. It's still anyone's win here somehow...
I kept the starting order...
Yuhana Yokoi ❤️ is quite a special personality - full of energy and iconically funny (I had seen her react closeup to her fellow skaters a few years ago and she was just as much fun off ice than on ice) I really have no clue what makes her struggle on her jumps so much. It wasn't a particularly bad program for her, but still she used to lack in PCS not TES when she turned senior and now? I really want her to shine!
I missed Rika Kihira's skating so much. Like Brian Orser said after her program: "It's a start" She jumped 3-3 which is already a success on its own considering her injury and how she is still not fully recovered. I love the program and am glad to see it again. ❤️ Let's stick to the positive here! (I hope she can fully recover and return to her old arsenal of jumps without pain!🙏🙏🙏) (why were there 4 coaches listed? One of them still Mie Hamada? So is she still coached also by Hamada? 🤔)
Gabby Daleman - the most pleasant surprise of the day (night for me) So happy for her! Clean program and I have hardly ever seen her so joyous after a program! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Rinka Watanabe did really well! 👏👏👏 I think she lacks a bit of fire for that program (I mean I compare it to Yuna Kim's from 2007 what probably isn't really fair bc she slayed back then) Poor Rinka waited an eternity for her score 😭 Though I think she has some work to do on her components, the score seemed quite low. I mean Rika with two mistakes and easy jump layout got only 3 points less than her, the TES being only 4 points apart. (I haven't seen the protocol but this seems iffy)
Ava Marie Ziegler - clean program, lovely but generic the program but suits her. I liked her hairpiece to the costume.
Eliska Brezinova - quite the opposite of generic program for Eliska and a cartwheel that looked implemented into the program done effortlessly, that's how I like a cartwheel! Love the program for her. Mistakes on the jumps but still I think it's not too bad for her. Good job! 👏
Starr Andrews - love love love that costume on her ❤️🔥 Superb skate for her! 👏👏👏
Lindsay Van Zundert - I like how she skates and performs her programs, but this program is a bit boring. Good SP for her! Yes there was an UR on the combo but she only started doing 3-3 in competition a while ago. It's amazing how far she has come! 👏
Niina Petronkina - it's a program I like, but the custume I don't. I like the concept, the music and the idea of the arm movements. It's standing out. If she now can show a bit more expression that would turn into one of my fav SPs of the season. And finally a clean skate at her 3rd competition of the season. They have been really harsh on her in the scores. I dunno why her TES dropped that much, the jumps looked rotated. She deserved better. 😤
Madeline Schizas - Swan lake is overused but I love the music so I don't mind it that much. Expression on point for the program and cleanly executed too! 👏👏👏
Linsay Thorngren - the pop was very costly especially in a field were most delivered optical clean programs. She is a lovely skater but I kind of have the same problem with the program as with Isabeau Levito's last week, she can't sell such a difficult music yet. The movements fit but the expression doesn't. I mean in her case it's also the mistakes that made her performance fall flat, but I dunno if this is a good choice for such a young girl. She seemed really sad already during the program.
I would have considered Young You the heavy favorite but with a SP like that she couldn't lead like she could have. I like the attitude in her program and the step sequence was really 🔥 🔥 🔥 I would still consider her the one to beat because she has the highest difficulty with Rinka for the free skate, but she can't afford more mistakes like here.
Tumblr media
I am really interested in the protocol, I don't understand how some scores were so low with the same jump layout as some who had higher scores. The close standings make it all the more exciting but it doesn't seem that equally fair to everyone tbh.

skate 🇨🇦 thoughts- some of the coaches are so warm and invested. stephane lambiel hadn't been reacting much during his skaters's performances, but then he was practically jumping with Shoma and ducking and darting around during the free, especially in the 2nd half as Shoma kept landing jump after jump- it was endearing. Shoma's skating in the free was so smooth and fast, so silky, musical and calm. the difference between someone able to embody the music like this vs just skating to it is magical. the sound of his blades beautiful- very even and long
and oof - Kao Miura skated great 2 weeks in a row but fell on his quad salchow right in front of me in the free, and there was a huge and nasty crack as he hit the ice. i think it was his shoulder that took the impact and he just missed hitting his head, but that was awful and scary. Keegan was fun - he said in an interview that he wants to show skate as long as Kurt Browning has, and it really feels like he could do it. he has the strong persona and signature moves that would easily translate
happy to see Gabby Daleman skate well on day 1 - for the free, she wasn't in the same confident energy (could see that in some other skaters, too, like Stephen Gogolev seemed so uncomfortable on day 1, didn't have a good skate, but he came out to practice and to skate his free with so much determination). Starr Andrews, Young You, Rinka, Rika ❤️
Riku and Ryuichi skate with so much joy and seem to have so much affection and care towards each other as well as their coaches and friends - that was lovely to see in practice and in the event
i like Piper and Paul's Evita more than i've liked their frees the last couple seasons - Vincent is their best still for me, but i tend to like their out of the box choices like Hitchcock and Perry Mason, and them being theatrical kind of felt right, plus Paul playing the part of the balcony ⬇️ lol - their twizzles were *so* fast. i can appreciate them but can never warm up to them somehow
Tumblr media
after seeing CB and HB last week and GP, FG and LL here, it really does feel like CB and FG are presenting one kind of ice dance and the others are presenting another. i enjoy CB and FG, but i love Hawayek and Baker and what LL are going for and already achieving in great part. i love both these programs for LL, especially the free- seeing them live compared to on a screen it felt a little clearer where they have room to grow- the skating could be bigger, the extension more, the flow and movements from start to finish more complete, but still, they're so musical
Green Parsons are a good and talented team - but halfway through Rhapsody in Blue i was bored. i think it's a misfire- a hard piece of music to do anything fresh with - which is too bad, considering what they're capable of doing
Tumblr media
if you got your ticket in the pre-sale, it came with this, which was nice

2022 4 Continents entry #14
Women free program
Gabrielle Daleman(CAN)
Thoughts: the fire during her step sequence. So fun.
Rino Matsuike(JPN)
Thoughts: her spirals are just beautiful
Gabriella Izzo
Thoughts: she was trying too hard to tell the story with her body. It just looked like she was waving her arms around with no specific goal in mind.
Starr Andrews(USA)
Thoughts: I don’t know if it was the hairstyle, or the sparkles on her arms. But the whole effect made the outfit very busy.
Audrey Shin(USA)
Thoughts: how much her confidence has grown. And this music has a lovely haunting feel to it.
Young You(KOR)
Thoughts: everything was just perfect. I love watching her skate!
Ye Lim Kim(KOR)
Thoughts: if everyone did spirals like the Koreans, do you know how happy I would be?!

Personal recap Skate Canada 2022 - Women FS
This was a placement switch like in most men competition. 😅
Yuhana Yokoi redeemed herself in the free skate. I liked her fun programs better than this generic one, but maybe it's what she needs to have better skaters. Anyway well done Yuhana! 👏❤️
Eliska Brezinova had some technical issues but I like that Zorro program for her.
Lindsay Thorngren is a very lovely skater. Great lines, nice costume. I really look forward to how she develops. I liked her free program much better than the SP.
Lindsay Van Zundert - I love love love this Pirates of the Carribean program.
Rika Kihira - just wow, so happy for her. And wow that would she have placed higher in the SP, she even could have medaled with a higher place at the SP. Her skating is so wonderful and the costume and just everything about her. I really missed her. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Niina Petrokina - she did well 👏 I still think she is a bit underscored but at least it wasn't as harsh as in the SP.
Rinka Watanabe - the CHAMPION! Hero of the day! 3A! Nice music choice, but I think she lacks a bit of expression to make me completely in awe with her. This was a deserved win and imo she should have won the SP as well. Congratulations on the win! 🎉 🎊 🥳
Starr Andrews - I have never seen her this good. Amazing! ❤️ 👏👏👏👏And her reaction to her score was so cute 🥰 I bet no one had Starr Andrews in mind for 2nd place! Well deserved! 🥈
Young You's program is a bit bland. Very harsh call on her 3A, that risk only gave her about 2 points in the end, not sure that was fair...I thought after her placement that she wouldn't make it to the podium but good for her! Congrats on the 🥉!
Ava Marie Ziegler - she has nice qualities. I think the nervousness just showed. I enjoy her skating overall.
Gabrielle Daleman - what to say...let's say the place from the SP didn't do her much favor...I am very sorry for her. Same goes for Madeline Schizas...a bit less pressure would have been good for both of them especially considering that neither is a very consistent skater.
Overall I think the judging was better than in the SP, still sort of selective on the calls and the PCS well let's just not talk about it...

Congratulations to all medalists! 🎉

My Stars on Ice experience (Edmonton, May 13)
I took my mama to SOI yesterday in Edmonton for Mother’s Day, we used to go when I was little, but we haven’t been for years, and of course this year was super special!
I bought the tickets way back in the fall, and thought I had got upper bowl seats, imagine my surprise when I went to print the tickets last week and found out we were in row 8!
Tumblr media
Another great surprise when we arrived was that we were sitting right by the entrance!
youtube
I was too hyped when the show first started to take a video of Raise Your Glass, I was smiling like an idiot the whole time. And unfortunately, the guys costumes are even worse in person (🙈)
Gabby’s first number was fun!
Applause by WeaPo was intense and odd, but I did enjoy it! The skirt turning into a cape is amazing.
My mom lost her mind during Elvis’ first number lmao
The girls number was so beautiful, my eye was definitely drawn to Tessa, her beautiful lines and posture are really highlighted in this number. Its no mystery why she was offered the spot in the RCB.
Jeff Buttle is adorable and reminds me of a happy cartoon character :) Unfortunately he fell, but had a huge grin on his face when he got up.
I loved Meagan and Eric’s number, I hadn’t watched any of the videos of their numbers, and I was so entertained.
youtube
I thought I knew that Javi was a good looking guy, but damn, I severely underestimated how good looking he is. Oh and a great skater and Olympic medalist!
youtube
Finally time for Tessa and Scott! As usual, the crowd lost their mind. Of course I’ve watched so many videos of this number, but its still so fun, and they seem to be having a great time doing it. As everyone says, their chemistry honestly is palpable, and I don’t mean this in a mean way, but their chemistry almost makes Weaver/Poje fall a little flat in comparison (though they are still lovely skaters!). I agree with everyone who said the YRMW costumes look better in person, still not my favourite by any means, but I no longer want to set fire to them!

Stars on Ice Hamilton 2018
Hi guys, I didn’t mention this before going but last weekend a friend (skating know-nothing, 5 star human) and I went up to Canada to see Stars. Ugh, so freaking good. I’ve shared my videos already and some lame pics but not overall thoughts. These very vaguely follow the order of the show mostly because I can’t remember what order things happened in and this is just a giant brain dump of feels and thoughts.
This cast is LOADED with just amazing skaters in the groups and they play to the audience so much it just makes it a bunch of fun.
Gabby is a star. She’s everything and more than what you get from watching her on a screen. Same with Kaetlyn Osmond. I was just blown away by all of their numbers.
Applause is FIRE but some rude ass people were whining about seats right in front of us even though there was plenty open so it was hard to actually enjoy the number without being able to see most of it. Why couldn’t y’all have waited to come down until after their number?! Although, it took my friend (knows nothing about skating or the skaters) approximately 5 seconds to ask if they are dating (which the I don’t know answer left her baffled the ENTIRE rest of the show as you can hear in my TW video. She stalked Kaitlyn’s insta on the way home and made her conclusions).
I really enjoyed Meagan and Eric and most of all my friend being terrified of her head being so close to the ice 😂 Seeing them in Boston skate to Hometown Glory was the single most emotional part of that trip so seeing them again was magical.
Eric flying off the ice in the boys number was hysterical. Also, WOAH where to even look in that number?! So much eye candy😍And we got to see it twice!!!!
Kaitlyn Weaver is a star. A freakin super star. She stood out to me so much in the Dream number and GIRL CAN SPIN!!!!
Rock My World was a lot of fun. It was so good to finally see VM skate live, just as much raw talent as expected. Listening to people yell marriage things at TS the entire show was not. So uncomfy. And then funny for about five seconds when Tessa proposed. And then uncomfy again.
I kept forgetting I got to see Javi skate and then would yell JAVI!!!!! He’s amazing and gorgeous and amazing and just ugh yes.
Kaitlyn’s intermission speech is actually deadly amounts of wifey talk (like why Andrew not her mom as the example? That would kinda go better with the theme but I guess when you got a hubby like him...). And her face when she talks about him...she just GLOWS. But anyways, that aside, she’s so well spoke and genuinely passionate and it shows. My friend and I were very moved towards World Vision.
Post intermission was just full of expectations going way wards. I noticed when the little boy was skating that I could look at the backstage area from my seat by looking next to me and under the bleachers. I noticed this when Andrew Poje was suddenly looking at me from the side of the tunnel and literally stopped breathing. HOT DAMN POJE. I forgot I could see back there the rest of the show though. I don’t have anything to add to Shape of You that the video doesn’t show...Tennessee Whiskey....my goodness. Hello love birds. I expected to be like oh it’s less precious in person but like WEAPO YOUR FACES ARE LOUD. The way she cuddled into him at the end will replay in my mind forever. It was the most domestic casual precious things ever and she was SO HAPPY and Andrew was just looking at her in that way where you’re like holy shit my heart my stop beating if he doesn’t stop because it’s so purely full of undying love and UGH. It has turned me into a sappy monster that I don’t recognize. I 100% do not know how to handle myself at these levels of feels.
With complete honesty I will say I have been looking forward to this day to see Moulin Rouge in person. I know, shocking, probably unbelievable, but I wanted to like it and I thought seeing it in person would be the chance to change my mind. Well, that was wrong. I felt the same about it in person as every other time I watched it. Sadly, my friend made the same comment before I even brought up the number. HOWEVER, I sobbed. Ugly cried. Kim K levels at that montage to Long Time Running they play before. That was sooooo emotional. I would have loved to see Long Time Running as that is the sole thing they’ve done skating wise post come back that I actually like. But regardless, they’re just so freakin good. There’s no words for the amounts of skating talent they have. Also, cunniliftus is VERY in your face in person.
I also did the same amounts of crying over Chiddy’s Hallelujah which I didn’t even know he was skating on tour so yeah…lots of emotions. My chiddy bae is such a bae and I love him so much and it was just stunning.
My friend and I stayed for retakes. HOLY SHIT. The boys coming out to do their retake. I DIED. THEYRE SO HOT. Also, somehow my melted lindt chocolate ball shot chocolate out of my mouth and all over my friend and I so a good chunk of the retakes was spent frantically laughing and cleaning that up.
Funny note: We almost ran into Alma Moir on foot rushing into the arena and I almost tripped on my feet doing a double take. Also, we are idiots and didn’t like drop a pin on our phone for where we parked so that was fun trying to find after the show.
Overall, really freakin amazing. Would drive 15 hours round trip for the show again.
If you’ve read all this, wow, hello. No promises that I’ll answer everything or answer timely but my anon is on and open or feel free to chat me.
