ABRIENDO PUERTAS

Me siento bastante nerviosa la verdad... Estoy a punto de conocer a mis nuevas compañeras de equipo y me da un poco bastante de miedo.

Nunca he sido buena para relacionarme con la gente, aunque el fútbol me ha ayudado bastante, aún sigo queriendo que la tierra me trague cuando tengo que conocer por primera vez a gente nueva.

Pero una cosa si que he aprendido muy bien a lo largo de mi corta vida... A mentir y esconder mis sentimientos.

-Vamos t/n, te están esperando- Dice Manolo Cano, mi nuevo entrenador.

Le miro y asiento moviéndome junto a él hacia el césped.

Me pongo la máscara y los nervios desaparecen. No quiero que piensen que soy un bebé que quiere volver a casa porque eso es lo último que quiero.

-Equipo- Llama la atención el entrenador- Os presento a la nueva integrante- Me pongo frente al grupo y sonrío- T/n

-Hola, encantada- Saludo y las miro a todas una por una pero las que más me llaman la atención y me dan curiosidad son 2, Lola Gallardo y Andrea Medina, y no sé porqué.

-Hola, yo soy Lola- Se presenta y me da una sonrisa amistosa

-Yo Andrea- Saluda la chica que estaba al lado de la portera y joder... Vaya ojos y vaya sonrisa.

Y así se presentan todas una a una. Yo ya había hecho mi trabajo y las había investigado un poco por Instagram para ver quienes iban a ser mis compañeras durante los próximos 2 años.

-Hacer dos grupos, vamos a hacer un rondo.

La gente se empieza a mover formando sus grupos pero yo me quedo quieta. En ese momento Lola aparece y envuelve su gran brazo alrededor de mi

-Ven con nosotras, novata.

Me encojo de hombros un poco por el contacto pero lo ignoro.

-Claro

En ese grupo estaban Vir, Maitane, Leicy, Merel, Sheila, Sonia y por supuesto Andrea.

-Get in the middle, novata- Dice la holandesa- Let's see what you can do

La miro y sonrío aceptando el reto.

Sin decir nada me pongo en el medio mirando las a todas antes de que empieza a rodar la pelota.

Al tercer toque la pelota está en mis pies

-Ik weet hoe ik meer moet doen dan dit- Miro a Merel sonriendo y esta está sorprendida pero las demás más todavía. (Se hacer más que esto)

-Ken jij nederlands? (Sabes holandés?)

Me encojo de hombros

-Algo- Le paso el balón a Leicy y me pongo en su lugar.

Justo en frente tengo a Medina y me la quedo mirando como juega hasta que el balón cae en mis pies.

Se la paso a Medina

-¿De donde vienes, t/n?- Empieza a preguntar Virginia.

-De Mallorca

-En que equipo jugabas?

-En el Atlético de Baleares

-He escuchado que hay buen futuro ahí- Me guiña un ojo la veterana mallorquina

-Sí, pero todas quieren salir de la isla para poder llegar a jugar más profesionalmente.

-¿Cuántos años tienes?- Pregunta Medina ahora.

-Pues 16

Lola silva

-Te han quitado el sitio de bebé- Dice la portera riendo y despeina un poco a Andrea.

-No quiero ese título- Rechazo

-Ooh, pues lo tendrás. Al menos de mi parte- Dice Lola y me sonrie.

Me la quedo mirando y la verdad es que no me siento incómoda con ella y no veo un atisbo de maldad en ella. Creo que me cae bien.

El entrenamiento sigue y hablamos de cosas irrelevantes y nos reímos de las chorradas de Lola.

Solo cuando el entrenador manda a todas al vestuario es cuando me quedo sola y disfrutando del ruido de mi bota pisando el césped o chutando el balón.

Estaba completamente sola entrenando pero en algún momento Lola y Andrea aparecieron.

Sin decir absolutamente nada Gallardo se puso en la portería, Medina de defensa y yo atacando como si lo hubiéramos hecho mil veces antes pero no, está era la primera vez y se sentía realmente bien.

Medina era una lateral increíble y Gallardo un buena porteraza pero eso no evitaba que mis chutes entraran más en la portería de lo que ellas quisieran.

En algún momento de la tarde paramos, el sol se empezaba a esconder y yo no quería perderme la puesta de sol.

Así que sin decir nada más me senté en el césped mirándola.

-¿Estás bien?- Pregunta Medina y ambas corren a mi buscando algún indicio de dolor.

-Si, de puta madre- Señalo la puesta- ¿No es bonita?

-Sí

Ambas se sientan a mi derecha y miramos el atardecer en silencio.

-¿Qué haces aquí?- Pregunta Lola de repente

-¿No es obvio?- Me río- Lo que todas hacen aquí. Jugar al fútbol y buscar ser la mejor- Me encojo de hombros mirándolas.

-Ya, pero hacer un cambio tan grande con 16 años... A mi me costó aceptar esta oferta- Dice Andrea- ¿No extrañas tú casa? ¿Tú familia?

Suelto una risa sin gracia.

-Yo soy mi familia.

Las dos me observan curiosas, sé que se mueren por seguir preguntando pero no lo hacen y se lo agradezco. Simplemente se levantan y me tienden una mano para ayudarme a levantarme.

Vamos a los vestuarios, no quedaba nadie ya. Todas se habían marchado a su casa

Me estaba poniendo la camiseta cuando Lola habla.

-¿Dónde te estás quedando?

-En un hotel cerca de aquí

-¿Quieres venir a cenar? - Interrumpe Andrea- Hemos quedado Lo y su novia, Cristiana, para cenar en un restaurante.

-Si, puedes venir. Seguro que le caes genial a Cris- Dice la mayor.

-Oh- me sorprendo- No quiero interponerme en vuestros planes...

-Chorradas niña- La guardameta pone sus brazos alrededor de nosotras- Vamos, que a Cris no le gusta que lleguemos tarde

Lola conduce hasta el restaurante y todo son risas porque entre las dos andaluzas es imposible no mearte encima.

Algo muy raro en mi, cabe recalcar, no soy de esas personas que enseguida se ponen a reír y se siente cómoda.

Cuando bajamos del coche veo que las dos chicas se acercan y saludan entusiasmadas a una mujer y deduzco que es Cristina.

Me quedo un poco atrás sin saber cómo intervenir.

-Ohhh- Dice cuando termina de saludarlas- Tu debes de ser el nuevo fichaje del equipo- Se acerca y me da dos besos.

Me paralizo un poco ante el saludo

-Encantada, soy t/n- Respondo cuando vuelvo a mí- Tú eres Cristina, ¿no?

-La misma, espero que te hayan hablado bien de mí- Dice en broma.

-Que va, solo han soltado mierda por la boca- Suelto la broma pero enseguida me arrepiento y dejo de respirar.

Cuando veo que rien puedo volver a la normalidad y recuperar el oxígeno.

-Vamo' a come' que muero de hambre- Dice Medina y todas la seguimos.

Nos sentamos en la mesa al lado mío está Andrea y enfrente nuestro la parejita.

Durante la cena todo son risas y bromas, también intentan conocerme un poco más y yo las dejo.

Hay veces en los que la chica a mi lado y yo rozamos nuestros muslos o brazos y me pongo bastante inquieta... Y no en el mal sentido y eso hace que me inquiete más todavía.

Intento pagar la cuenta pero ni Lola ni Cris me dejan y Medina a mi lado se ríe.

-Ya te acostumbraras- Dice la menor encogiendose de hombros.

-¿Donde te estás quedando?- Pregunta Cris una vez salimos.

-En un hotel cerca de aquí... Puedo ir andando si queréis iros a casa ya

-Tenemos una habitación libre... Oh bueno... Cuando la terremoto no la ocupa- Ríe Cristina

-Si, puedes dormir con ella o sino la hechamos al sofá- Bromea ahora Lola.

-Oyeee- Se queja juguetonamente la aludida.

-No quiero molestar chicas... Estoy segura que sería un estorbo más y seguramente queréis intimidad y esas cosas... - Me niego.

-No digas tonterias chiquilla- Dice Lola.

-Si, Andrea también se acopló cuando fichó por el Atleti... -Dice la otra

-No sé...-

-No acepto un no por respuesta- Dice la más mayor

Se me escapa una sonrisa. Su actitud me recuerda tanto a alguién.

-Está bien- Acepto resignada y Andrea suelta una carcajada.

Me llevan al hotel y Cris me ayuda un momento a coger mis maletas que son pocas, no tenía mucho que coger de casa.

Ella no hace comentarios al respecto pero cuando me meto en el coche la sevillana pequeña si.

-¿Solo tienes eso?¿Te vienes aquí a vivir solo con 2 maletas pequeñas?-Me mira alucinada

-Si- Me encojo de hombros sin decir nada más y lo capta.

Una vez llegamos a su casa me enseñan la casa y la que va a ser mi habitación por un tiempo. Veo que Lola saca mantas y cojines de un armario.

-¿Para quien es eso?- Pregunto confusa.

-Para la niña- Mira a Medina

-¿Qué? No- Niego- Estoy invadiendo su cama... -Miro la cama y luego a Andrea- Es lo suficientemente grande para las dos. No me importa dormir contigo.

-Si, a mi tampoco- Me sonrie y puede que me derrita un poco.

Nos mira y sonrie traviesa

-Bueno... En ese caso me voy a dormir. Buenas noches, chicas.

Saco las cosas para ir al baño a lavarme los dientes y veo que ella me sigue y hace lo mismo.

Nos lavamos juntas en silencio pero empieza a hacer guarradas con la pasta y yo la sigo y nos reímos.

En un momento veo que empieza a grabar pero me da igual sigo haciendo el tonto junto a ella.

-Nuestra primera de muchas- Levanta el móvil.

Ignoro el comentario sin hacerme ilusiones.

-¿Qué lado quieres?- Pregunto señalando la cama

-Este está bien- Señala la izquierda y asiento así que me meto en el contrario.

Cuando me acuesto cojo el móvil para enviar un mensaje

"Hola, se que estas despierta esperando :)"

"Ha sido un día movidito, siento no haberte llamado"

"Mañana te llamo, lo prometo"

Mando y mientras espero respuesta veo como se mete en la cama mi compañera de habitación temporal.

Ambas boca arriba mirando el techo.

Gira la cabeza para mirarme y hago lo mismo.

-¿Qué estudias?

-Ummm, me estoy sacado un FP de auxiliar de enfermería y el año que viene quiero hacer el de rayos o algo así

Abre la boca

-Así que enfermera eh

Suelto una carcajada

-Si te lo quieres tomar asi... Es parecido solo que sin pinchar

Asiente sonriendo

-¿Y luego? Quieres ir a la uni o te quedas con los FP?

-Uni, pero no sé de que. Soy un poco indecisa

-Es normal yo tampoco sabia que hacer

-¿Qué haces tú?- Pregunto ahora yo curiosa.

-He hecho bachillerato y ahora me he metido a hacer ciencias de la actividad física y del deporte online.

-Que guay, yo también quiero hacer algo relacionado con el deporte o medicina pero tengo tiempo todavía- Me rio- Soy un puto bebé

Suelta una carcajada y yo con ella.

-Puede que si

-Oye, tu también lo eres

-Para Lola si, pero soy mayor que tú- Me saca la lengua y yo a ella.

En ese momento me llega un mensaje y lo cojo rápido

"Hola peque. Estaba esperando tu llamada.

"Espero que este todo bien, mañana me contaras todo... Sino cojo el primer vuelo para verte eeeh"

Me río por lo último y Andrea me mira curiosa

Me llegó otro

"T'estimo petita❤"

Le respondo

"T'estimoooooo ❤❤❤❤"

Dejo el móvil cargando y me pongo de lado mirando a la chica a mi izquierda.

-¿Alguien importante?

-Si, una de las pocas que está ahí pase lo que pase.

Me sincero

Seguimos hablando pero en algún momento ya no recibo respuesta.

-¿Andrea?- La llamo suavemente y la miro ya que estaba mirando el techo

Estaba de lado hacia mi con los ojos cerrados y respirando tranquilamente.

Sonrio y sin saber porque le hago un mini video

Me quedo mirandola sin poder dormir, media hora después Medina estaba encima mia con la cabeza apoyada en mi cuello.

Me tenso pero luego acabo rodeandola con mis brazos y poco después me duermo.

Me despierto al sentir movimientos encima mia y resoplo.

-Estate quieta- Mando y entierro la cabeza en el matojo de pelos.

-Perdón, no quería despertarte- Susurra.

Obro los ojos de mala gana y después de acostumbrarme a la luz la miro.

-Buenos días- Digo con la voz rasposa

-Buenos días, perdon por haberme puesto encima de ti- Se disculpa sentándose en la cama.

-Me han molestado más tus ronquidos- Bromeo y abre la boca ingidnada.

-Yo no ronco!

-oh, si que lo haces, pero todavía es aguantable. No me has dejado sorda.

Me río y me levanto

-Yo n... - Se calla de repente cuando me ve en ropa interior para ponerme la ropa de entreno.

-No pot ser- Me río al ver su cara roja y aparta la mirada- ¿No tendrias que estar acostumbrada ya a ver a chicas en ropa interior? - Me burlo.

-Lo estoy- Se defiende.

-Ya lo veo- La miro y me visto rápido- Venga arreglate.

Salgo de la habitación y voy a la cocina.

-Buenos días- Saludo a las dos mujeres.

-Bueno' día' niña- Me acerco para ver lo que hacen y me sorprende con un beso en la sien.- ¿Qué tal has dormido?

-Pufff genial, es agradable dormir con un oso que ronca- Digo esto último en voz alta.

-Otra vez. Que yo no ronco- Aparece la aludida y me río al ver su carita enfadada.

-Si que lo haces, terremoto- Dice Cris y le da varios besos en la mejilla.

-A mi me trae por el camino de la amargura cuando duermo con ella- Se mete con ella Lola

-Esto no puede ser, todas contra mi no eh- Se cruza de brazos enfadada pero sonrie cuando Lola la llena de besos.

-Aun así, roncando y todo te queremos.

Sonrío al ver la complicidad que tienen las tres aún habiéndose conocido apenas hace un año.

Desayunamos y vamos al centro de entrenamiento. Hicimos físico y luego estuvimos un poco con el balón para irnos acostumbrando a jugar entre nosotras.

Cuando el entreno termina espero a que todas entren al vestuario para hacer una videollamada.

-Hola, pequeña- Saluda alegre Alexia.

Se escucha mucho alboroto de fondo.

-Hola, Ale- Devuelvo contenta.

De repente se para el ruido y se escuchan varios "Esa es T/n?" de fondo hasta que aparecen 4 cabezas más aparte de la de Ale.

-T/n- Exclaman Mapi, Patri, Claudia y Jana a la vez.

-Hola chicas- Saludo sonriendo

-Te echamos de menos- Dice Mapi con un puchero

-Si, yo no se porque has rechazado la oferta del equipo B- Dice Pina ahora.

-Ya os lo he dicho. No quiero que me tachen por enchufada ni nada de eso- Digo- Además... Mi calidad no es para estar en el B de nadie- Les guiño el ojo y se ríen todas.

-Ahí tienes toda la razón, niña- Patri comenta.

-Aparte me va a gustar jugar contra vosotras y patearos el culo- Hago como que me quito polvo de los hombros.

-Ya lo veremos- Dice Jana.

-Oooh, preparate Janita.

Ahí empezamos una discusión bastante infantil entre las 5 mientras la doble balón de oro mira divertida la interacción.

-Bueno, basta ya- Corta la mayor- Fuera, dejarme hablar con ella a solas.

Las chicas la miran indignadas pero le hacen caso y se van.

Veo que ha quedado una pelota del entrenamiento y me pongo a jugar con ella

-Cuéntame, que tal estos dias? Has echo amigos?

-Eeeh- Hago una vuelta al mundo- Ha estado bien, las chicas el primer día me desafiaban por mi edad- Ruedo los ojos- Ya sabes, lo de siempre. Les calle la boca en 15 minutos y ahora parece que soy una más aunque es clara la diferencia de edad- Me encojo de hombros.

-Esa es mi chica- Dice orgullosa

-Parece que Lola me a cogido bajo su ala. No me dejó quedarme en el hotel y me ha ofrecido una habitación hasta que encuentre otro sitio.

-¿Si? Eso es muy bueno t/n- Dice contenta- Lola es una buena chica y te ríes una montón con ella. Seguro que te cuida bien, ya me encargaré de eso.

-No, Alexia- Digo con el ceño fruncido

-¿Qué tiene de malo?

-Ya te lo dije antes de irme. No quiero que me vean diferente o que tu intervengas en algo o lo que sea.- Paro y la miro- Suficiente has echo con sacarme de ahí y darme la oportunidad de hacer esto- Le enseño el campo- Es algo que nunca te lo voy a poder agradecer lo suficiente.

-Es algo que te mereces por tu propio mérito y habrías podido conseguirlo igualmente- Asegura- Tienes mucho futuro.

-Gracias- Digo emocionada- Que me lo digas tú es... - No encuentro las palabras.

-Es la verdad- Dice- Entonces cuando nos veamos tengo que hacer como si nada? No creo que pueda y menos creo que pueda controlar a las chicas. Están ansiosas por verte otra vez.

-Jugaremos dentro de 4 meses. Creo que es tiempo suficiente para ganarme el pan yo solita.

Se ríe.

Veo por el rabillo del ojo que Medina se acerca.

-T'he de deixar, t'estimooo

-D'acord, t'estim

Cuelgo

-Eres un poco inquieta no? Llevo mirándote media hora hablando por teléfono y no has dejado de mover la pelota en ningún momento.

-¿Me estas espiando?- Fingo indignación.- Pensándolo mejor... Es normal que no pares de mirarme, soy increíble.

Nos reímos.

Los meses pasan hasta que llega el partido contra el Barça en territorio catalán.

Ha ido todo genial, me he ganado un sitio en el equipo y todas son muy protectoras conmigo sobre todo Lola, con ella he creado un vínculo super fuerte y se a vuelto un pilar en mi vida junto con Cris y Andrea.

Mi relación con las dos futbolistas es increíble han pasado de ser culo y mierda a ser culo, mierda y peo o eso dice Lo.

Con Andrea tengo una conexión que no he tenido nunca con nadie. Puedo pasar de hacer el gilipollas con ella, bromas, comportarnos como niñas pequeñas a abrirle mi corazón a pecho abierto y a quererla de una forma súper fuerte.

Pero volviendo al presente. Teníamos un partido que jugar.

Estaba en el vestuario poniéndome la equipación. No tenía prisa, estaba en el banquillo.

Me senté junto a Vir cuando los dos equipos salieron al campo.

En el medio tiempo estábamos perdiendo 2-0 y en el 50 decidieron que era hora de que entrara al terreno.

Mientras esperaba que la arbitra diera paso al cambio vi una silueta pararse a mi lado. Al girarme vi a la número 11.

-Pero si tengo a mi lado a la mismísima reina- Exclamo en voz baja para que sólo me escuche ella- ¿Estás lista?- Sonrió traviesa.

-¿Lo dudas?

En ese momento la arbitra nos deja entrar y empieza la función.

El chip del equipo cambia cuando toco el primer balón y pongo en apuros a la defensa blaugrana. Ahora creen que podemos llegar a algo.

En el 56 después de unos cuantos intentos de mi parte y de Banini llega mi gol.

Cojo enseguida el balón y voy a ponerlo en el punto de inicio y después celebro con las compañeras que venían corriendo detrás de mi.

Continuamos y ahora el Barça estaba mucho más defensivo y muy pendientes de mi. Cada que tocaba balón me lo intentaban quitar o me hacían entradas feas.

En una de esas estaba en el suelo sentada tocandome el tobillo y vi a Medina acercarse enfadada a Pina que estaba junto a mi y Patri.

-No era necesaria esa entrada- Dice de mala ostia encarandose mi número 20.

Me levanto enseguida un poco coja y me pongo en medio.

Medina tenía muy mala ostia pero Clau también y no quería un pelea ahora.

-¿Estas bien?- Dice la culé ignorando a mi compañera.

Asiento con la cabeza

-Como si te hubiera importado hace 2 minutos- Suelta Andrea.

-Andrea, basta- Ordeno y la cojo de la mano para sacarla de ahí.

Es una falta muy cerca del área y peligrosa y pido tirarla.

Me mira Menayo y asiente.

Coloco el balón y veo en la barrera colocadas a Patri y Aitana y luego miro al cúmulo de jugadoras que hay en el área.

Miro la portería guardada por Paños y cuando escucho el silbato chuto la pelota.

Va por toda la escuadra y Sandra no consigue llegar.

La primera en engancharse a mi es Medina a la que agarro por las piernas y luego ya las otras se van sumando.

El partido terminó 2-2 minutos después y iba saludando amistosamente a las que se cruzaban por mi camino antes de que me arrastrarán a una entrevista.

-Muy buenas tardes T/n

-Buenas tardes

-¿Cómo te sientes después de haber enfrentado y empatado a un equipo como el Barça con sólo 16 años prácticamente tu sola?

-Bueno, el equipo ha echo un buen partido, ha podido contener bastante bien a Geyse, Alexia, Ana María... Solo les faltaban las ocasiones de gol.- Me encojo de hombros- Estoy contenta pero hay cosas por mejorar y en eso hay que centrarnos.

-Veo que tienes las cosas muy claras, pero dime. Tú personalmente te veías cuando eras pequeña jugando contra el Barcelona?

-No, de pequeña iba día a día y sigo haciéndolo pero jamás me había imaginado estando hoy aquí o por lo menos no siendo tan jóven.

-Te ves vistiendo en un futuro los colores blaugranas?

La miro y me rio.

-Cualquiera estaría loco de decir que no a jugar en un equipo tan grande. Pero ahora hay que centrarse en el Atleti que es otro equipo muy grande.

-Muchas...-Alguien salta a mi espalda- gracias, T/n. Disfruta del día.

-Igualmente- Me voy de ahí con Andrea encima de mi.

-Así que el Barça, eh- Dice Andrea primero.

-Es mi sueño

-Lo sé- En ese momento Pina y Patri aparecen frente a nosotras y Andrea se baja de mi espalda pero la agarro de la mano para que no se encare.

-Tu... - Empieza a hablar la sevillana pero se calla cuando Patri y Pina se abalanzan sobre mi

-Joder, te he echado de menos- Dice Patri en mi pelo.

-Si, pues cualquiera lo diría- Me separo- Anda que habéis tenido tiempo para venir a verme, sinvergüenzas

-Te juro que cuando tengamos un par de días libres venimos a verte- Dice Patri- Bueno, casi todas las chicas.

En ese momento alguien me levanta del suelo en un abrazo apretado pero reconozco ese olor a kilómetros, Alexia.

-Si, en cuanto tengamos libre vamos enseguida- Afirma sin soltarme

-Hola, Ale- La abrazo de vuelta y noto varios cuerpos más encima.

-Estas más fuerte eh- Dice Jana cuando nos separamos- Y corres más, mare meva.

-Y estoy más buena también- Me río de las caras.

-También, también para que engañarnos -Dice Bruna y escucho un resoplido

Era Medina. Estaba mirando todo confusa y a Bruna bastante mal por estar tocando mi biceps.

-Oohh, chicas esta es Andrea- Rodeo su cintura y ahora mira triunfante a Bruna o eso creía. -Una de las que me ayudó a integrarme y una muy buena amiga.

-Tu eres la que ganó el Mundial no? - Dice Mapi emocionada- Si que lo eres, tienes mucho talento

-Gracias- Dice sonrojada y le pellizco la mejilla

Llega Lola también confusa

-Ellas son las que me acogieron prácticamente en su familia- Les resumo brevemente- Luego os lo explico.

-Vamos todas a cenar? - Dice Patri

Y todas afirman

-Antes podemos ir a un bar o algo para hacer tiempo- Sugiere Alexia y todas estamos de acuerdo- ¿Vais a venir? - Pregunta a las sevillanas

-Si, claro- Responde Lo por las dos.

-Pues genial, vamos a saludar a los fans.

-Yo de mientras iré a decírselo a unas cuantas chicas del Atleti- Dice Mapi y todas nos esparcimos pero Andrea se queda conmigo mientras saludamos a los fans y firmamos.

Me sorprende ver a varias chicas colchoneras con mi dorsal pero lo que más me sorprende es encontrarme a una mujer en concreto en las gradas.

Camino hacia ella ignorando a alguno que otro y Andrea me sigue desde la distancia.

-¿María?- Pregunto alucinada de verla.

-T/n!- Dice contenta y me abraza tan fuerte como puede.

-¿Qué haces aquí?- Pregunto sin creerlo cuando me separo- ¿Cómo estás?

-Bien, viviendo después de lo de Lucía- Dice sonriendo triste- Pero he venido aquí porque me he enterado que jugabas y quería volver a verte.

-Si, ya han pasado 2 años desde que no nos vemos- Digo triste recordando esos tiempos

-¿Tú cómo estás?

-Feliz- Digo sinceramente- He conseguido a gente importante y que quiero- Miro inconsciente a Andrea que estaba a unos metros mirando hacia nosotras- Y estoy haciendo lo que quería.

-Esa chica eh, te brillan los ojos cuando la miras- Ríe tiernamente y me sonrojo pero no digo nada- Lucía estaría muy orgullosa de lo que has logrado, T/n- Dice sinceramente y la abrazo muy fuerte con los ojos llenos de lágrimas.

-La hecho mucho de menos- Digo con un nudo en la garganta

-Y yo, cariño. Pero donde quiera que este está cuidando de nosotras, como siempre a hecho

Me despego del abrazo y nos miramos.

-El otro día me atreví por fin a abrir y mirar las cajas de Lucía que desde la mudanza habían estado guardadas- Se aclara la garganta- Vi una cosa y pensé en ti- Se gira un momento y me tiende una guitarra

-Que, que haces?- Se me entrecorta la voz

-La vi y en que sitio puede estar mejor que contigo?

-No-Niego repetidas veces con la cabeza y aparto la mirada hacia Andrea que al verme así se acerca más todavía- No puedo aceptarlo. Es de ella.

-Estoy segura de que hubiera querido que la tuvieras- Se acerca y me susurra- Y que le cantes a esa preciosa chica

Cojo la guitarra marrón oscura y observo la inicial de Lucía y mia que hicimos cuando le regalé el instrumento.

Paso los dedos por encima y luego me dispongo a tocar un par de acordes pero paro.

-Me da que tendrás que afinarla un poco- Ríe suave.

-Eso parece- Digo- Gracias... Por venir y por la guitarra

Me da un beso en la frente

-Disfruta ahora todo lo que tengas y lo que se te presente- Me mira a los ojos- Y no dejes los sentimientos para el último momento. Tu más que nadie te mereces esto y más- Me hace un gesto con la cabeza y se que se refiere a Andrea.

Con un último beso en la frente se gira y se va.

Me quito una lágrima y sonrío mirando el instrumento que ahora me pertenece y que en su momento regalé.

Andrea termina de acercarse y pasa su brazo por mi cintura en un gesto protector.

Me aclaro la garganta y la miro

-Ven, es hora de que sepáis todo- Me decido

-No tienes porque hacerlo...

-Quiero hacerlo- Digo segura.

-Loooolaa- Llama Medina de camino hacia los túneles, ella nos ve y se acerca.

-¿Estás bien?- Es lo primero que pregunta cuando ve mi cara.

-Venid- Las guio a una sala donde se que no habrá nadie.

-¿Qué es todo esto?- Pregunta confundida Lola y señala la guitarra

-Cierra el pico, Lola- Dice sería Andrea y esta se vuelve sería.

Algo muy raro en estas mujeres

-No se como empezar...-Hago una pausa y suspiro.- Me crié en un barrio un poco chungo, había mucha mierda para que mentir- Hago una mueca graciosa

Se rien un poco

-Mi infancia no fue la mejor. Mis padres eran alcohólicos sobre todo mi padre y mi madre acabo siéndolo por culpa de él y los maltratos.

-A ti también... - Lola no pudo continuar con la frase. Ambas apretaban los puños.

-Si, me acuerdo de la primera vez. Era mi cumpleaños, cumplía 5 y yo estaba emocionada y contenta. Todos mis amigos de clase me felicitaron era nuevo para mi, en mi casa eso no existía. Mi padre estaba en el sofá durmiendo con unos 10 botellines de cerveza alrededor- Hago una pausa- Mi madre no estaba y yo contenta me fui a mi cuarto y cerré la puerta para ponerme a jugar. Grave error, la cerré más fuerte o eso pensó mi padre- Me reí y negué con la cabeza- A partir de ese día nunca más volvi ha hacer ruido con las puertas.

-T/n- Exclaman y me abrazan.

-Pasaba el menor tiempo posible en casa desde ese día, estaba mucho mejor en la calle que en casa. Un día vinieron a vivir una familia nueva al barrio y yo tenía curiosidad. Conocí a Lucía, la niña pequeña de la familia, y enseguida nos hicimos amigas, todos los días estaba en su casa o en la calle con ella. Gracias a su madre pude apuntarme a un equipo de fútbol.

-A Lucía le encantaba la música, lo llevaba en la sangre. Eran una familia gitana con mucho arte, el padre y los tios tocaban la guitarra y el hermano la caja y yo bueno, aprendí de todo. Cuando cumplió once le regalé la guitarra- La miro con añoro- Aún ella teniendo una se volvió loca y se convirtió en su preferida, nunca la soltaba. O estábamos tocando y cantando juntas o estaba mirándome jugar mientras hacía música o lo que sea

-Que bonito, t/n- Susurra Medi emocionada y sonrío de verdad, con el corazón

-Era la mejor- Me aclaro la garganta- Por esa época tambien conocí a Patri. Vivía unas calles más para atrás y la pasión por el fútbol nos unió, fichó por el barça y solo venia en vacaciones y una vez vino con más chicas, concretamente Mapi, Pina y Alexia. La conexión con estas era increíble pero con la última fue instantánea. Casi como cuando nos conocimos nosotras o tu y Medi- Digo mirando a Lola.

-Entiendo

-Intentaba ocultar lo que pasaba en casa cuando estaba ella ya que a un referente no quieres darle esa imagen pero acabó enterándose y la conexión se volvió muchísimo más fuerte.

Hago una pausa y les sonrío

-Ale me queria llevar con ella. No me queria dejar ahí ni un minuto más pero por ese entonces a Lucía le detectaron cáncer y yo no iba a dejarla sola. Fue una lucha intensa durante 2 años pero no fue suficiente. Murió hace 2 años.

-Joder, t/n, lo siento mucho- Dicen ambas y me abrazan

-Su familia se fue de Mallorca y yo desde entonces dejé de tocar nada, todo me recordaba a ella. Ya no tenía nada que me retuviera ahí así que Alexia por fin me pudo sacar y aquí estoy

-Ahora también nos tienes a nosotras- Dice Lola abrazándome fuerte y se une Medi

-Lo sé y estoy agradecida de haberos conocido. Sois increíbles.

-Lo sabemos- Dice la andaluza pequeña con una sonrisa arrogante.

Le pego un puñetazo en el hombro

-Pero yo lo soy más, ahora moviendo el culo que nos están esperando y tengo hambre.

Ordeno y me hacen caso.

3 horas después estábamos todas cenadas pero cada una tenía sus conversaciones en la gran mesa

-Te hemos visto con una guitarra, ¿tocas?- Dice Paños.

-Sí, se tocar- Respondo y me muevo un poco incómoda. Parece que las que están a mi lado se dan cuenta porque Andrea pone una mano en mi muslo y Ale en el otro.

-¿Tocas algo para nosotras, t/n? - Dice Bruna ilusionada ajena a todo lo que pasa por mi mente- Porfaaa

Abro la boca pero no sale nada.

-Si no quieres no tienes que hacerlo- Dice Alexia a mi lado y Olga, su novia, me da una sonrisa alentadora. Ellas saben como me siento.

-No no, esta bien. Puedo hacer esto- Digo más para mi misma.

Me levanto de la silla y me tomo unos minutos para buscar la guitarra y volver

Cuando estoy lista regreso y me siento en la silla tocando suavemente las cuerda para poder afinarlas.

Tengo la mirada de todas encima pero sólo hay una que hace que me ponga un poco nerviosa, Andrea.

Toco un par de acordes y sonrío inconsciente cuando me vienen imágenes a la cabeza de las horas que pasamos Lucía y yo cantando y tocando.

Miro de refilon a Medina y es cuando se me viene una canción a la mente, una que he tocado incansables veces con Lucía y siempre imaginando a alguien sin rostro pero ahora lo tiene.

Empiezo con la melodía y ahí es cuando se me olvida todo y sólo me centro en la música.

"Una vez, soñé lo que el futuro me deparaba

Había un patio andalu'"

Empiezo a cantar y cuando viene cierta frase miro discretamente a Andrea aunque como ella está fijamente mirándome se da cuenta

Y al bailar parece que vuela

Su' pie' son de oro puro

Noto un poco de sorpresa en su reacción y algo más que no sabría describir pero continúo cantando hasta que la canción termina y todo el mundo aplaude hasta las mesas de los alrededores y camareros.

-Wooooooww t/n, no sabíamos que escondias esa voz- Dice Bruna maravillada y le doy un sonrisa

-Gracias pero no es para tanto- Le respondo y todas me miran mal

-¿Qué no es para tanto? Tu voz es preciosa, t/n- Dice Andrea y eso hace que me ponga roja, muy roja.

Alexia me da un golpe en el muslo sutilmente y me giro a mirarla y veo como ella y Olga se están riendo de mi.

Le saco el dedo y la lengua y ella me saca también la lengua.

-¿Puedes cantarnos más?- Pregunta Jana

-Solo si me acompañais

Así nos pasamos un par de horas entre todas cantando y divirtiéndonos y luego fuimos a cenar a un restaurante.

Me había olvidado lo divertido y bien que me sentía con la música.

-Nos vamos a ver pronto Pinita- Le digo a la chica que estaba abrazándome fuerte y puede ver una cola detrás de ella con las demás chicas del Barça.

De repente se unen al abrazo Bruna, Jana y Patri

-Te vamos a hechar de menos, t/n- Dicen estas últimas.

-Y yo a vosotras- Me aclaro un poco la garganta para quitar las lágrimas que quieren salir- Pero hay videollamada y me habeis prometido que cualquier día libre vendreis a verme.

Me separo de ellas y enseguida se engancha Mapi a mi.

-Tu también tienes que venir eh, que sino te meto arrastrando en el equipo B- Dice la aragonesa.

Y así me despido de todas hasta que queda solo una, Ale.

Ella es un poco más alta así que mi cabeza termina en su cuello y quien soy yo para quejarme.

-Pasatelo muy bien, patea muchos culos y hazles saber quién es T/n Putellas

Si, había heredado su apellido cuando terminó siendo mi tutora legal pero eso no lo sabía mucha gente.

-Si, mami- Medio enserio medio en broma

-Y escríbeme

-Mamá Alexia deja un poco al polluelo anda- Dice Mapi burlandose- Escríbele cada minuto eh, que sino lo paga con nosotras- Me dice a mi ahora y nos reímos todos menos Ale que le da un golpe en la nuca.

Le doy un beso en la mejilla

-T'estimooo

-I jo més- Responde y se acerca a mi oido- Ves a por la chica

Me despido con la mano y cuando salimos pongo el brazo sobre los hombros de Medina acercandola a mi cuerpo.

Todas las chicas del Atleti empezamos a caminar hacia el hotel pero me quedo atrás con Lola y Medi.

-Quieres a Alexia eh- Comenta la mayor y yo asiento

-Sí, legalmente es mi madre y yo la quiero como tal

Seguimos hablando pero en ningún momento suelto a Andrea y nadie se extraña porque en estos meses la hemos pasado así día si y día también.

Al llegar al hotel cada una se dispersa hacia su habitación y yo me voy a la mia con Andrea

Voy a mi lado de la cama, dejo la guitarra en el suelo y quitándome la camiseta me tumbo en la cama mirando a mi compañera de equipo.

Se quita los zapatos mientras mira algo en el móvil pero luego lo deja en la mesita de noche y se tira a mi lado.

-Andrea

-mmmh?

-Creo que se a colado una mofeta en la habitación- Digo preocupada mirandola.

-¿Qué estas diciendo?- Me mira raro

-Es que desde que te has quitado los zapatos huele muy mal- Arrugo la nariz para enfatizar.

Abre la boca indignada y me mira mal

-Primero con que ronco y ahora que me huelen los pies

-¿Qué quieres que haga yo? Es la verdad...

-¿Ah si? Pues tu te tiras unos peos mientras duermes mortíferos- Dice ella y ahora soy yo la ofendida.

-Mentira, si yo huelo a rosas siempre

-No, creo que con tus pedos matarias hasta a un muerto y mira que está muerto ya eh

Indignada me pongo sobre ella haciéndole cosquillas y luego ella también me las hace y no sé como termina ella encima mia con ambas piernas rodeando mi cintura y la cara demasiado cerca de mi para ser legal.

Nos quedamos mirando con la respiración bastante acelerada hasta que bajo a sus labios

Levanto la mano y con el pulgar acaricio ese lunar que tiene bajo su labio.

No veo rechazo por su parte y encima intercala la mirada entre mis ojos y mis labios así que me levanto un poco y rozo nuestros labios hasta que los conecto del todo

Es un beso suave, lento, sin prisas.

Saboreo bastante su labio inferior y superior hasta que por culpa del aire tenemos que separarnos.

-Joder- Dice Andrea cerrando los ojos intentando recuperar el aire.

-¿Tan mal beso?- Bromeo aunque por dentro no era una broma.

Abre los ojos y sonrie pícara.

-Un poco, pero no pasa nada, podemos arreglar eso.

Se acerca y me vuelve a besar todavía lento aunque el tiempo pasaba y de cada vez se iban volviendo más intensos los besos.

Estuvimos un par de horas así con ella encima mia pero no llegamos a más que unas cuantas caricias por debajo de su camiseta de mi parte.

Paramos cuando ya teníamos los labios hinchados y rojos

-¿Esto es real?- Pregunto sin creermelo del todo

Sin decir nada me pellizca el brazo

-Auuuu bruta

-¿Parece bastante real no?

-Sí

Le recojo el pelo tras la oreja.

-Vamos a dormir que solo quedan 4 horas

-Mmmmh no- Niego- Solo unos cuantos más

La acerco a mi y volvemos a besarnos.

Al final no dormimos nada...

Andrea Medina x Reader

Summary: You've known Andrea for a very long time

The first day you met Andrea Medina, you got married.

It was out in the schoolyard. It was your first day and she came bounding up to you, took your hand and said she was going to marry you.

You were shy so you agreed and you got married to her under the apple tree.

You remained by her side for most of your life. You couldn't even remember what it was like without her.

You were joined at the hip throughout your childhood. You would wait outside of training for her after school so you could get the bus back together. She would hang behind when you went to the library to study. You walked hand in hand everywhere together.

When people questioned it, Andrea would always respond the same way," I married her under the apple tree. I'm just being a good wife."

When you first married her, she gave you a Haribo ring to symbolise your love. It had been eaten by the end of the day.

She gave you a paper ring next. You wore it for weeks on end until one day it was raining and it ripped, falling straight off your finger.

After that came Andrea's own mother's wedding ring, which she had slipped off the woman's finger when she was asleep and brought into school for you. Your parents made you give it back though and Andrea just started holding your hand more in answer.

It was somewhat of a tradition, every year, to find an apple tree and get 'married' all over again. It started off as a cute thing little kids did but feelings developed almost as soon as you both hit puberty.

The change from best friends to girlfriends happened seamlessly for you both and soon Andrea was introducing you to everyone she could like she was bragging about something special.

"Hi, Miss Gallardo!" You said as you waited in the stands for Andrea to finish training.

"How many times have I said it? You don't need to call me Miss Gallardo. Lola is just fine."

Your face went a little red at the correction. "Right. Yes. Sorry, Miss Lola."

Lola groaned good naturedly, shaking her head fondly at you. "Andrea!" She yelled," Your girlfriend's here!"

Usually, after you finished your university classes, you would head straight to training to see Andrea so you were a very familiar sight to see waiting.

"She's not my girlfriend!" Andrea yelled back," She's my wife!"

Lola laughed, tucking you under her arm as she walked you over to your girlfriend. "No ring on her finger, no wife."

"She ate the first one!" Andrea complained, an arm coming out to wrap around your waist.

"It was very sweet," You replied, pressing a kiss to her cheek," And she did get me a ring." You pulled up the silver chain around your neck so Lola could see the ring hanging from it.

She rolled her eyes. "A promise ring isn't a wedding ring. It's like a pre-engagement-ring ring."

"Hey!" Andrea said," Don't be rude about our love!"

Lola laughed. "God, what is it with you kids and speedrunning life? Football career, finding your forever girl. Slow down a bit. You're making the rest of us look bad."

"You don't really need help with that," Andrea teased.

"Be nice to Miss Lola," You said to her," She doesn't have to put up with you."

"Fine." Andrea kissed your cheek and squeezed your waist.

"You should stick around more, y/n. Can you come to practice every day? I've never seen her shut up so quickly."

"Happy wife, happy life," Andrea replied.

"Alright, lovebirds," Lola teased," Off you go. Go be sappy and disgusting elsewhere."

You pulled Andrea after you. She got changed and showered in record time and soon you were walking hand-in-hand down the street.

The walk back was like second nature and you leaned happily into Andrea's side as she took the lead, ducking into a little cafe to get a much needed coffee.

"My favourite married couple!" The old lady at the counter exclaimed as you both ordered.

Andrea grinned triumphantly, puffing her chest out like she did whenever someone mentioned your childhood marriage.

"Our favourite coffee maker!" You say back, putting a hefty tip in the jar.

With your coffees in hand, you and Andrea wandered through a park and up a hill. You dumped your bags just in front of the apple tree.

"Okay," Andrea said, taking your hands and pulling you to stand under it," Ready?"

"Ready."

She cleared her throat and, just like when she was younger and didn't fully understand weddings, said," I love you!"

"I love you too!"

"Marry me?"

"I do!"

She grinned, spinning you around. "I am going to marry you," She promised," Properly."

"Good," You said," Because I'm getting sick and tired of introducing you as my wife without a proper ring."

Lola had been away with her girlfriend which had left me with a hyper active Andrea.

she normally got out all of this pent-up energy training but since Lola had gone away for a little Andrea was left to her own devices.

"hola, hola, hola." she repeated as she poked at my ribs.

it had been a very long day. i was tired and really couldn't deal with the annoying nature of her at the moment.

so i did the one thing i know will keep her normal.

"hola Lola." i said once the call connected.

immediately the poking stopped and my phone was out of my hands.

"hol- ah andrea." lola spoke.

i sighed with relief.

"you going to be okay? i think i'm going to have a nap." i asked as i leaned over her shoulder to wave at Lola and her girlfriend.

"mhm si, ir a la siesta" she said as pressed a kiss to my cheek before concentrating back on Lola.

“mhm yes go take a nap”

i caught eyes with Cristina before i walked to our bedroom.

i mouthed 'gracias' to which she returned with a quick wink and engaged in the conversation.

"no hagas un lío por favor" i said but it was only left on deaf ears.

“Don't make a mess, please”

i ran into the bedroom and closed the door.

the silence was heaven and allowed me to get a good 3hour nap.

what i didn't expect when i walked down the stairs was to see my girlfriend with breadsticks up her nose and in her mouth, as well as all over our kitchen table.

she hadn't seemed to of noticed my sleepy figure leaning against the wall next to her but lola had which only made her burst into laughs.

Andrea clearly thinking she was the reason for the older women's hysteria began to blow the sticks out of her nose giggling to herself.

"algo de talento tienes bebe" i spoke as i sat down.

“some talent you have baby”

"ah, ¿cómo estuvo tu siesta? te extrañé" she said as pressed a light kiss to my lips.

“Ah, how was your nap? I missed you”

"te extrañé más" i said as i wiped the crumbs of my lips.

“i missed you more”

"adios Lola, adios Cristina" Andrea quickly spoke as she handed me back my phone and walked off to put the box of breadsticks away.

"muchas gracias, siento que tengo un niña pequeño para una novia" i said which pulled a laugh from the couple.

“Thank you very much, I feel like I have a little girl for a girlfriend”

"Puedo oírte, idiota" Andrea shouted from the kitchen.

“I can hear you idiot”

"se suponía que debías" i said back to her.

“You were supposed to”

"por favor vuelve lola" i quietly said before ending the phone call.

Never Whistle at Night: An Indigenous Dark Fiction Anthology

Compiled and edited by Shane Hawk and Theodore C. Van Last Jr.

This collection of twenty-six short stories provides an interesting and different look at some issues I have never thought about. In reading through reviews of this work I found that some reviewers were able to relate to more of the stories than other readers and some readers were unable to relate much at all. Most went into reading believing the stories would be scary, horror stories, or put them on edge – some did, and some didn’t, in my opinion.

The stories that had the biggest impact on me were:

* KASHTUKA by Mathilda Zeller in which a young woman is pushed by her mother to go with someone she doesn’t want to be with to cook and help with a party. A ghost/scary story is told briefly and seems to allow a Kashtuka to materialize and kill a few people – the twist at the end was a grabber indeed.

* WHITE HILLS by Rebecca Roanhorse looks at what a woman might do to maintain a better quality of life than she was raised in. I hated Marissa’s mother-in-law and husband and really questioned the decision she made at the end of the story.

* SNAKES ARE REBORN IN THE DARK by D.H. Trujillo’s story brought in a bit of magic and touch of horror while talking about respecting and honoring ancient wall/cave paintings.

* BEFORE I GO by Norris Black dealt with grief and loss and made me hope I never run into Mother Night.

* DEAD OWLS by Mona Susan Power is a cold story with ghostly encounters that I hope to never experience myself.

* NAVAJOS DON’T WEAR ELK TEETH by Conley Lyons was dark and disturbing with a main character I wanted to shake and tell to spend time with someone else…someone safer, less abusive, and better for him…that had a darker ending too.

* WINGLESS by Marcie R. Rendon dealt with two boys in a foster care situation no child should find themselves in. I cringe thinking about that story and hoped at the end they both found a brighter future somewhere somehow.

There were a LOT of stories and though I couldn’t relate to all of them, the stories above were the ones that stood out the most to me and will linger longer.

GRACIAS A MI HERMANA

Lectora conoce a Andrea Medina gracias a su hermana colchonera.

N/A: Creo que es la primera historia que veo por aquí de Andrea Medina así que espero que le deis una oportunidad y la disfrutéis.

Estaba junto a mi hermana 3 años mayor esperando afuera del campo donde suelen salir las jugadoras del Atleti una vez terminan el entreno.

Solo que yo era la que más destacaba aún no haciendo nada porque todas estaban chillando e intentando hacer que las jugadoras pararan para qué les firmen o para hacerse fotos, pero, en cambio, yo intentaba apartarme de los empujones involuntarios y esperar a que mi hermana terminara con su lado fanático.

Soy culé que quieres que te diga. Obviamente, tengo fotos con la mayoría de ellas porque también me gustan como futbolistas, pero mi corazón siempre será blaugrana.

-Mira T/n-Me chilla Raquel, mi hermana- Es Andrea Medina- Me señala un coche y va a acercarse con la mayoría de la gente.

Esa chica me sonaba de haberla visto un par de veces en el Betis jugando, así que no sabía que este año había fichado para el Atleti.

Mientras se hacía las fotos y firmaba me miraba muy fijamente, solo que yo no sabía por qué y yo inconsciente, me tocaba el pelo y me miraba con la cámara, a ver si había algo mal, pero no, todo estaba en orden.

-Medina te está mirando mucho eeh- Dijo mi hermana una vez se hizo la foto con ella y volvió a donde estaba yo.

-No digas tonterías- Me hago la tonta porque en verdad no sé por qué lo hacía.

-Uy uy uy a ver si aquí mi hermanita ha conquistado a una futbolista... - Se vuelve loca y empieza a hablar sin parar a lo que no presto atención.

Veo que Medina una vez termina con la última fan me lanza una sonrisa mirándome y se va.

-¿Has visto esooo?- Grita emocionada saltando.

-Si, lo he visto- Digo confundida.

Tengo 16 años y soy una chica normal, no soy guapa ni fea y mucho menos me creo lo que no soy.

Así que no le doy importancia, seguro que miraba a otra persona. Una futbolista joven con futuro no va a fijarse en una chica como yo.

Y así van pasando las semanas yendo y viniendo de partidos y entrenos con mi hermana haciéndose más fotos y hablando con las futbolistas.

Hasta que un miércoles fuimos a ver una final Atleti-Manchester City para clasificarse para la Champions League.

Mi hermana hizo una apuesta conmigo diciéndome que si ganaba el Atleti tenía que ponerme una camiseta del Atleti y si ella perdía una del Barça, pero el problema es que si ella perdía le daba igual ponérsela, pero a mí no

Al final, después de pensarlo mucho, acepte porque estaba segura de que iba a ganar yo.

Una vez las jugadoras salieron al campo, Medina buscaba en un sitio en concreto y cuando nos vio nos guiñó un ojo, algo que hace siempre.

Los siguientes 90 minutos los pase mal, muy mal, una parte de mí quería que ganará el Atleti para apoyar al equipo español, pero la otra quería que ganará el City para no tener que ponerme esa camiseta.

En el minuto 85 el Atleti sacó un córner, le dieron con la cabeza varias jugadoras, pero el balón quedó suelto fuera del área hasta que apareció Andrea y chutó haciendo un gol bonito de ver por toda la escuadra donde la portera no pudo llegar.

1-0 a favor del equipo rojiblanco

Mi hermana se levanta, las personas que están al lado se levantan, todo el mundo se levanta y yo también me pongo de pie. Creo que es la primera vez que me levanto cuando marca un gol el Atleti.

Andrea antes de volver a su sitio me pilla de pie y me da una sonrisa enorme, yo avergonzada me siento otra vez.

Los últimos 5 minutos fueron muy intensos por ambas partes, las últimas fuerzas del City se fueron en atacar sin parar intentando entrar en área y los del Atleti dejarse los dientes para que el balón no entre dentro de la red.

Al fin y al cabo ambos se jugaban algo muy importante, el pase para jugar la ansiada Champions.

-Pii pii piiiiiiiiiii- Escuchamos y casi todas estaban llorando, unas de alegría y otras de tristeza, otras levantaban los brazos y gritaban. Todas, absolutamente todas, se tiraron encima de Medina, que estaba en el suelo sin creerse que su primer gol con el equipo las haya llevado a la Champions.

-Siiii joder- Gritó mi hermana con los ojos llorosos- Te juro que me casaba con esa chica.

Me río mientras le doy un beso en la cabeza.

Una vez que las jugadoras se pusieron con los fans, mi hermana gritaba como loca el apellido de Andrea.

Andrea haciendo una seña cuando terminó con la chica que estaba vino a nosotras.

-Andrea eres increíble en serio. Te amo - Dijo mi hermana nada más acercarse la chica.- Has hecho que nos clasifiquemos para la Champions y encima me has hecho ganar una apuesta con la muda esta- Me señala y ruedo los ojos.

-¿Qué apuesta?- Pregunta mirándome

-Que si ganabais tenía que ponerme una camiseta vuestra- Bufo- Pero no me la voy a poner, ni de coña.

Mi hermana, iba a decirme de todo, pero la interrumpe Andrea.

-Una apuesta es una apuesta, ¿no? Además, hoy te he visto celebrando mi gol, así que no creo que pase nada por ponerte este escudo... - Me mira inocentemente.

-Ha sido un auto reflejo... Todos se habían levantado- Me excuso. La verdad me había emocionado cuando Medina había marcado su primer gol.

-Puedo regalarte mi camiseta, así cuando marque otro gol te levantas otra vez por auto reflejo- Se burla.

Mi hermana contiene la respiración mirándome muy raro.

-Oh no, el blanco no me queda muy bien- Me burlo.

-Eso es porque no lo has probado con mi número y mi apellido.

¿Eso ha sido un coqueteó o ha sido cosa mía?

-¿Ah si?, pues te va a costar lo tuyo si me quieres ver con tu camiseta

-Podemos empezar con una cena... - Deja caer

-¿Tú y yo?

-Si, hoy, ahora.

Vale, no ha sido cosa mía. Esta chica me está coqueteando.

Miro a Raquel que me está mirando como "si no aceptas te mato" y para que engañar, me gustaría irme a cenar con ella.

-Bueno, si hay comida de por medio no te voy a decir que no- le guiño un ojo y me da una sonrisa que derrite.

-Voy a ducharme rápido, espérame afuera. Adiós Raquel- Le da un beso en la mejilla a mi hermana y se va corriendo.

-¿Me acaba de dar un beso? ¿O estoy soñando?- Me pregunta

-A ver, déjame comprobarlo- Le doy un golpe fuerte y me lo devuelve- No, no estamos soñando.

-¿Te acaba de invitar a cenar?

-Eso parece, yo tampoco me lo creo- La miro confundía.

-Te mereces lo mejor hermanita, experimenta y disfruta que te lo has ganado.

Me dice una vez salimos del estadio y estamos afuera esperando.

-Gracias por todo- Le doy un abrazo

-Bueno, me voy. Te dejo con mi futura cuñada- Bromea y le doy un golpe en el hombro.

Una vez sola me pierdo en mis pensamientos hasta que una mano suave en el hombro me saca de ellos.

-¿Lista, guapa?

-Lista, Medina

Empezamos a caminar y de vez en cuando nos miramos torpemente.

-¿Qué quieres cenar?

-¿Te puedo ser sincera?- Le digo

-Siempre

-Sé que no es nada ostentoso ni elegante ni nada, pero prefiero mucho más que me lleven a cenar a un McDonald's antes que a un restaurante pijo de esos

Me mira por un momento y se ríe a carcajadas.

-¿Qué? - Pregunto confundida

-Llegaremos muy lejos- Dice confiada y en ese momento no lo supe, pero tenía toda la razón del mundo.

-¿Puedes comer chatarra?- Pregunto mientras empezamos a caminar

-Por poder no puedo peeero... Puedo hacer una excepción contigo- Me da una sonrisa, moja bragas y la verdad es que le funciona.

-Aparte de jugar en el Atleti, ¿estudias algo?

-CAFD y un cursillo de entrenadora.

-Qué guay, yo CAFD lo tenía en mente junto con Periodista deportiva y fisio deportiva, pero al final me decanto por fisio. Las letras no son lo mío. - Nos reímos.

Y así pasamos toda la noche conociéndonos y riéndonos. Me lo pase muy bien con ella y quería pasar más tiempo con ella.

Una vez frente a la puerta de mi casa paramos sin saber qué hacer a continuación.

-Podemos hacer una promesa?- Me pregunta tímidamente, algo que me sorprende porque hemos estado toda la noche coqueteando descaradamente.

-Depende cuál

-Si llego a las semifinales en la Champions te pones mi camiseta durante todo el partido

-Es una promesa un poco grande, pero creo que puedo hacerlo...

-Pero...

-Pero tienes que invitarme más a comer

-Trato hecho

-Aaah si y que no se me olvide. Tienes que marcar por lo menos 2 goles más.

-Me parece justo- Me tiende el dedo anular y se lo estrecho.

-Sabes qué se hace con el meñique no? - Suelto una risita.

-Nosotras no

Sonrío tontamente y le doy un suave beso en la mejilla que dura más de lo previsto.

-Buenas noches, Medina

-Buenas noches, guapa.

Y aquí estoy esperando a escondidas en una habitación del Wanda a que llegue Medina.

-Hola, guapa- Entra sigilosamente y me asusto.

-Hola, preciosa.

-Toma, exclusivamente para ti- Me tiende su camiseta con una sonrisa y yo la miro a ella, después a la camisa y de nuevo a ella.

-Esto no es una buena idea...

-Ohhhh vengaaaa porfaa- Me hace un puchero y resoplo.

-Está bien- La cojo y me la quedo mirando hasta que decido ponérmela enfrente de ella.

Me quito lentamente la camiseta que llevo puesta quedándome en sujetador negro y me mira con la boca abierta.

-¿Qué haces?

-Ponerme tu camiseta- Digo obvia- Venga cierra la boca que te desconcentras para el partido.

Me pongo la camiseta y sigue mirándome fijamente

-¿Qué? ¿Me queda mal? Ya lo sabía yo que esto no va conmigo- Hago el amago de quitármela, pero se acerca bajándola y dejando las manos en mi cintura.

-Te queda perfecta

-¿Si? A ti te quedaría mejor una camiseta blaugrana-Le digo y se ríe, pero no me lo niega

-Te puedes ir acostumbrando a mi camiseta, la vas a llevar por mucho tiempo

-Ya lo veremos, Medina.

-Ya lo verás- Asegura y niego sonriendo.

Nos quedamos unos minutos así, mirándonos, hasta que se me va acercando poco a poco.

Su nariz roza con la mía, su respiración choca con la mía y nuestros corazones laten a una velocidad increíblemente rápida.

Cierro los ojos cuando nuestros labios se unen por fin. Es un beso suave, lento, sin prisa y para nosotras especial. Es nuestro primer beso después de todos estos meses de citas, visitas por la noche a la ventana de la otra, confesiones, miedos, después de goles dedicados y sonrisas y risas compartidas.

Nos separamos en contra de nuestra voluntad porque nos quedamos sin aire y porque tiene que ir a ganar un partido.

Juntamos nuestras frentes y nos mantenemos por 1 minuto con los ojos cerrados.

-Venga, Medina. Tienes un partido que ganar y yo una jugadora que apoyar.

-Después del partido, ven al campo porfa.

-Intentaré esquivar al de seguridad.

-Ya le diré que te deje pasar.

-Venga, vete, que al final te dejan en el banquillo.

Asiente y dándome un último beso se va y yo me voy para la zona familiar donde me está esperando mi hermana.

-Nooooooooo-Grita nada más verme

-Cállate- Digo por qué todos nos están mirando.

-Te la has puestooooo- Me empieza a grabar- Increíble T/n T/a se ha puesto por primera vez una camiseta que no sea del Barça y adivinen quien lo ha conseguido... Mi cuñadaaaaa

-Párate ya- Le digo avergonzada y nos sentamos.

Me hace burla y se ríe de mí hasta que empieza el partido Atleti-Wolfsburg.

-Nos hemos besado- Le susurro sin mirarla y manteniendo mi vista en Medina.

-¡Queeeeeeeeeeee!- Chilla y literal que hasta en el campo se la escucho porque Andrea nos mira por una fracción de segundo.

-Cállate loca

-¿¡Pero cuando!?

-Cuando me ha dado la camiseta.

-¿Te ha gustado?

-Ha sido increíble, en serio, que estoy completamente enamorada de ella.

-Si eso ya lo sé querida hermanita. No creo que si no lo estuvieras tendrías su camiseta puesta.

-Cierto.

El partido está duro, ambos equipos quieren la victoria, pero ninguno llega a acercarse lo suficientemente al área como para meter gol. Es cuando el Wolfsburg tiene un córner que tienen la oportunidad de crear peligro.

Rauch va a tirar el córner y yo me estoy mordiendo las uñas de los nervios. La alemana levanta los dos brazos y lanza, la pelota vuela hasta que veo que Pajor antes de rematar de cabeza ese balón le hace una tremenda falta a Medina que cae al suelo sin la posibilidad de defender ese balón que entra dentro de la portería.

-FALTA ÁRBITRO JODER- Grito demasiado enfadada levantándome del asiento como la mayoría de los rojiblancos.

Mientras tanto, el equipo alemán celebra su gol injustamente merecido.

Yo ya dejo de quejarme por el gol y estoy en la barandilla de pie observando como Andrea no se levanta.

Está tendida en el suelo tocándose la cabeza rodeada de un par de compañeras que se interesan por ella mientras hay otras quejándose de que no piten falta.

El cuerpo médico va rápido con ella y cuando le quitan las manos de la cabeza veo una brecha de donde sale sangre.

-Yo te juro que mato a la árbitra y a la alemana esa- Digo y mi hermana me pone una mano en el hombro sujetándome porque me conoce y sabe qué soy capaz de saltar al campo.

Le ponen un parche en la frente para detener la sangre y sale del campo para reanudar el juego. Ella asiente con la cabeza y sé que es porque le están preguntando si puede seguir jugando.

-Es tan jodidamente cabezota- Digo enfadada- Necesita que la miren, ha sido un golpe fuerte.

-Tranquilízate, ella está bien y aunque no te guste va a seguir jugando.

-Lo sé

Solo me puedo sentar en mi sitio un poco más tranquila cuando antes de entrar me lanza una mirada diciéndome que está bien y que me tranquilice.

La primera parte termina 0-1, las rojiblancas vuelven al vestuario con la cabeza gacha y otras negando con la cabeza.

-VAMOS CHICASSS- Chilla mi hermana para las jugadoras y algunas levantan la cabeza sonriendo.

Empieza la segunda parte y las rojiblancas parecen otras. Tienen la mayoría de las veces la pelota, recuperan rápidamente cuando la pierden y crean muchas ocasiones de gol.

En el minuto 65 Lola saca de portería en corto hacia Andrea, esta levanta la cabeza y ve correr a Vir. Se la pasa haciendo un lanzamiento asombroso y la pelota cae un poco por delante de Vir haciendo que esta esté sola con la portera rival.

Vir le hace un caño a la portera antes de que esta se tire para cogerlo y el balón entra al fondo de la red.

-SIIIIIIIIIIII JODER- Grita Raquel

-ESA ES MI CHICA- Grito saltando del asiento y levantando los brazos.

Me avergüenzo un poco después de eso, pero me da igual.

El juego continúa y con ello mis nervios están a flor de piel. Cualquier error de algún equipo y les dará el pase a la final.

Jill se acerca con la pelota fuera del área, pero Medina atenta, se tira tocando el balón primero y Jill por la velocidad a la que iba se cae y se queja en el suelo.

La árbitra pita, pero todos nos quejamos tanto dentro como fuera del campo y el VAR aparece.

-¿AHORA SI QUE APARECE NO? ANTES CUANDO ERA FALTA CLARA NO APARECE.

-Vaya puta mierda árbitra- Susurro

Al final, después de unos minutos revisando, la árbitra dice que no es falta y el balón es para nosotras.

En el minuto 85 Lola chuta arriba donde están la mayoría de las jugadoras, incluida Medina. Cardona recibe el balón y se la pasa a Maitane que chuta, pero la portera la para, esta se la pasa a Lynn con la esperanza de hacer un contraataque rápido, pero lo que no había era que Medina iba a intervenir ese balón antes de que llegará a la jugadora y chuta por toda la escuadra. La portera no estaba preparada para eso, así que aún intentando estirarse todo lo que pudo, el balón perforó la red.

-CÁSATE CONMIGO POR DIOS- Grita mi hermana toda eufórica y le doy un golpe

-VAMOOOOOS BEBÉ

Una vez se libra de todas sus compañeras, mira en nuestra dirección y se besa el dedo anular.

Los últimos 7 minutos con el añadido fueron increíblemente infernales. Veía que en cualquier momento el equipo alemán marcaría un gol.

-Pii pii piiiiiiiiiiiiii

Suena el silbido final y todos estamos pletóricos tanto la afición como las jugadoras.

EVENT BATTLE 2017: DC’s DARK NIGHTS: METAL vs MARVEL’s SECRET EMPIRE

I know I said that this would be an annual thing, and I’ll try to keep this on schedule, and I’ll try to post these on time, and I know I’m posting the one for 2017 as 2018 comes to an end… but writing this took a backseat as I had to finish some projects and write a thesis. C'est la vie, as the French say.

Welcome to EVENT BATTLE 2017, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for sticking around.

Last time we had what I called a Triple Threat Match: DC vs Marvel vs Valiant. While I was hoping this would be a trend going forward, Valiant Comics took a break from publishing big summer crossover events this year. They’ll be back for the 2018 edition of Event Battle, though. (Side note: I absolutely adore Valiant’s quality over quantity strategy, and I hope it continues despite the recent setbacks.)

So, back to the heavyweights, then?

2017 saw DC Comics handing over their universe to the most successful team off their New 52 experiment, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo (of the Batman fame), in the form of METAL, or Dark Nights: Metal. While Metal is indeed a continuation of Snyder and Capullo’s run on Batman, it does build itself up on the shoulders of giants. Peter Milligan and Kieron Dwyer’s “Dark Knight, Dark City” being one, Grant Morrison’s seminal run on Batman, Final Crisis, his The Multiversity stuff, and pretty much the entirety of his DC output is some of the few important stories from the past that the creators wove into theirs. However, although Metal leans on and borrows from a lot of stories (like most modern superhero stories do), it does not make them a required reading. You will easily find your way if you have never read “Dark Knight, Dark City” (you should, though) and don’t know who or what Barbathos is. Metal is that accessible to new readers. If you are a long-time reader and know your comics, however, it is oddly satisfying when you catch a reference.

Like I mentioned earlier, Metal brings back Barbathos, the bat daemon occultists in 1776 (including the third President of the United States of America!) tried summoning with their “Ceremony of the Bat”. Bruce Wayne, because of his connection to both the Wayne family and, well, I guess, bats in general, is revealed to be the host for Barbathos’ return. To act as the portal/host for the daemon, Wayne needs to be exposed to five divine metals. It is revealed later that Batman already has been exposed to most of them in previous storylines (Electrum in “Court of Owls”, Dionesium in “Endgame”, Promethium in “Superheavy”, Nth Metal in the prologue of the event with Dark Nights: Casting and Dark Nights: Forge , and finally, Batmanium during the course of this story). The daemon, of course, has evil intentions. It is bringing with itself the “dark multiverse”. It literally wants to sink the Earth and flip the scales.

Oh, and also, it is bringing with itself the twisted versions of Batman… who kinda do look awfully similar to Dark Judges from Judge Dredd?

As you can imagine, much of the story then follows Batman and the Justice League’s attempt at stopping Barbathos and his horde of mercenaries. Metal is filled to the brim with ridiculously absurd and deliciously fun moments throughout. While I did stick with my rule of not reading the tie-ins for events, I did read those that Snyder co-wrote, and they work quite well with the main story. They offer details to the story as you would expect from a tie-in but if you do choose to follow the main book only, you would be good.

While bigger, louder, more ridiculous seems to Snyder’s modus operandi for every story after “Zero Year”, it just kinda works here. Rarely does the story pauses and the characters get a chance to breathe. Even the dialogues are written in such a way that they service the plot forward and not add any depth to the characters themselves. While this does seem to continue on his Justice League run, what I do appreciate here is how he managed to adapt and extend previous stories and add more layers to the cosmic side of the DC Universe, which I have always felt falls a bit short when compared to Marvel. Apart from Darkseid and the New Gods, there’s not much else to it, is there? (Cue fans telling me off in 3… 2… 1…)

Greg Capullo draws every issue of Metal, front to back. This in itself is unheard of for modern superhero crossover events, but that’s not all. The man knocks it out of the park throughout. From huge action splash pages to an eight panel page of a tightly choreographed fight scene, Capullo works his magic throughout. Joining him on the tie-ins are John Romita Jr., Andy Kubert, Jim Lee, Doug Mahnke, Yanick Paquette, Jorge Jiménez, Riley Rossmo, Howard Porter, Bryan Hitch, Mikel Janín, and a host of talented inkers and colourists. While on some scenes in the tie-ins, the transitions between the artists is not subtle and it feels a bit off, the books are a sight to behold. If Jorge Jiménez’s work on Superman, Super-Sons, etc. didn’t inform you, the guy is a superstar.

Marvel, on the other hand, had a rough year. I’m talking about the comic book side of the business, of course. They seem to be doing just fine everywhere else.

SECRET EMPIRE is the continuation of Nick Spencer’s Captain America run, specifically his ‘Hydra Cap’ storyline. You know, the one that caused so much outrage. I wasn’t following his run then, but reading this event now, I learnt that (spoiler alert:) that man is that controversial panel actually is Steve Rogers. While the story very firmly establishes that it is not an LMD, not a clone, not a shape-shifter, etc., that man is still not our Captain America. Something is a bit off – specifically, Rogers gets his history rewritten by a sentient cosmic cube – and this leads to an interesting “What If?” storyline, almost.

Yes, Captain America is a Hydra agent. The bad guys have won. America is under Nazi rule (Which, is not that different from the current state of things, is it?). Spencer’s plays with this idea throughout the story, drawing parallels between the two. For example, the persecution of the Inhumans in the make-believe world is drawn from the persecution of the Jews in the real, and so on. While the story is not that epic in scale as Metal perhaps is, it does work as a summer blockbuster crossover event story regardless. Spencer also smartly limits the active cast. New York is put under a blackout, so half the Marvel superheroes are off the table and a shield around Earth has locked out heavy-hitters like Captain Marvel and such. This makes it easier to follow the action. Not that I doubt Spencer’s ability to write a large cast (he does exactly that so expertly here) or that I doubt the reader’s ability to read a book with a large cast. A smaller cast works here, because unlike Metal, for example, this is not a story about the heroes trying to stop the bad guys from winning. They have won already. It is up to a handful of rebels to overthrow the regime Reich.

The first and the last issue of the story is drawn by Steve McNiven, and rest of the work is divided among Rod Reis, Daniel Acuña, Andrea Sorrentino, Joshua Cassara, Leinil Francis Yu, Sean Izaakse, Joe Bennett, Ron Lim, Paco Medina, …holy shit that’s a lot of artists. To their credit though, the editorial team does manage to avoid any art inconsistencies. The story follows the one artist per issue rule to the dot, or a specific artist(s) sticks with a particular plotline. Steve McNiven hyper-detailed art sets up the mood perfectly in the beginning and that exposition is perfect for the end. Andrea Sorrentino, I think, handles a major portion of the book. His panel structure and innovative use of the borders and the gutters is fantastic.

THE VERDICT

To be honest, this was the hardest it has been in quite some time to pick one of the two. Usually, I like one book over the other a lot. Infinity over Forever Evil, Original Sin over Futures End, Secret Wars over Convergence, Rebirth over Civil War II and 4001 A.D. This year, I thought both worked quite well in their own regard. Neither of them is perfect by any means. There are some gaping holes in the plot of both stories. Dream appearing in Metal to add a convenient layer of exposition to an ‘oh my god, how are they ever going to do it?’ plot, The Punisher and Thor kinda turning Nazis with little to no conviction in Secret Empire, and so on. Nonetheless, I had a good time reading them, and that’s all that matters on some days.

While both Metal and Secret Empire had some lasting impact in their respective universe, most of what was caused by Secret Empire has been hushed over. This is partially, I think, because of all the (unnecessary) outrage it caused. Metal, on the other hand, boosted sales, launched new series, spun new tales. I had so much fun reading that book. And oh, how could I ever forget baby Darkseid doing the devil’s horns?

Celebrating Diverse Books!

I’m so happy to have the opportunity to review three picture books for the 5th Annual Multicultural Children’s Book Day. A day to learn, share, and talk about the fantastic diverse literature available for young readers. It was a joy to share these stories with my twin three-year-old boys.

Disclosure: I received the following three books from their authors to give an honest review for #MCBD2018.

As an Indigenous woman with two little boys, finding them diverse stories is very important to me. As biracial children I want them to have books that reflect their Indigenous heritage as well as stories from as many cultural backgrounds as possible. I want my boys to have the opportunity to not only see a representation of themselves in stories but find a connection to diverse characters.

A Tall Tale About a Dachshund and a Pelican How a Friendship Came to Be, written by Kizzie Jones, illustrated by Scott Ward and published by Tall Tales. This is a simple story about making friends regardless of differences and celebrating diversity.

This delightful flip-over bilingual English-Spanish picture book is a sequel to Kizzie Jones award-winning book How Dachshunds Came to Be. The illustrations are beautiful. As someone who grew up with a dachshund, I thought the artist portrayed the exuberance of Goldie the dachshund perfectly. Dog lovers will adore this story.

This tale is about the excitement of a dog wanting to make a new friend. The lesson to take away is unmistakable: you can like and appreciate someone without being similar.

It held the attention of both twins on our first reading. I can see it becoming a recurring book for story time. It is a charming sequel to the Tall Tale Series.

The next two picture books I have the pleasure of reviewing are Sporty Lou Soccer King and Johnny Skip 2 The Amazing Adventures of Johnny Skip 2 in Australia written by Quentin Holmes and published by Holmes Investment & Holdings LLC.

The illustrations in both Sporty Lou and Johnny Skip 2 have a cheerfulness to them. The bright color palette works well for both stories. It’s impressive that both books are drawn using the same style and the two little boys are completely different. The characters and background in each book are diverse.

Sporty Lou Soccer King is a story about Lou a spirited little boy being taught soccer for the first time. In Lou’s fantastic imagination his self-confidence is shown as he pictures a stadium full of people cheering his name. Lou’s disappointment in not being a naturally gifted player shakes that confidence. Lou’s dad wants to share this great game with him and doesn’t let Lou stay discouraged. He gently teaches and encourages Lou to persevere.

Lou is a little boy with dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, and cappuccino skin color. He is ethnically ambiguous and could be any nationality. It’s possible a child from any race could look at Lou and see themselves or someone familiar. He’s every child.

I like the two sides we see of Lou; he pictures himself as a sports star and he’s a small boy who as he struggles, and misses finds the determination to keep trying.

Many kids who love sports will enjoy this book. But, I think the lesson of perseverance in Sporty Lou is important for any child to hear. I appreciated the thoughtful way the dad taught and corrected Lou. Sporty Lou Soccer King is an enjoyable read out load book.

Johnny Skip 2 The Amazing Adventures of Johnny Skip 2 in Australia is a story about Johnny, a black little boy, and his dog Grounder who use a remarkable device to skip all over the world. They go to Australia to explore the outback and help a kangaroo.

This story has a lot going on for a picture book and it didn’t hold my three-year-old boys’ attention. I think it would be better enjoyed by kids five to seven.

This interactive adventure is an ambitious series that combines science and magic. The book teaches about the culture, language, animals, and environment of a continent. The story presents a lot of information on Australia quickly, but this causes the rhyme structure and rhythm of the text to feel forced making it difficult to read out loud.

I’m interested to see what is next for both Sporty Lou and Johnny Skip 2 in their series.

Reading diversity in fiction creates empathy and understanding in real life. These three books reflect a piece of our diverse, beautiful and complicated world. I’d like to thank Kizzie Jones and Quentin Holmes for contributing their stories to Multicultural Children’s Book Day.

Miss Universe 2016 Swimsuit Round: Post Preliminary Thoughts!

Miss Universe 2016 unbelievably is just close to its culmination and tonight’s preliminary competition has just augmented the heat for the pageant grand finale, which will take place on January 29, 2017 in Manila, Philippines. The 65th edition of Miss Universe is totally the talk of pageant town, and why would it not be when eight seven “Confidently Beautiful” girls are proudly representing their respective countries on world’s most glamorous platform ever!

Like every pageant enthusiast, I am totally thrilled to share my favourites and opinions on the prelims night with you all, and I start off with my views on the swimsuit round, which is considered to be ace it or break it segment for the Miss Universe pageant. So without further delay, let’s go!

In no particular order here are favourites for the swimsuit round after the preliminary competition-

Argentina-Estefanía Bernal

Argentina

And that’s how you burn the stage! Estefanía Bernal totally gave a blisteringly fierce start to the preliminary competition with her power packed performance. I totally see her placing in the semi-finals with that spunky aura and fiercely commanding body language.

Brazil- Raissa Santana

Brazil

She was hyped many felt initially, but tonight she just justified the hype around her. Raissa Santana can totally give her country another Miss Universe crown if she continues to give the similar commendable performance on the grand finale eve, because I am already expecting that she has locked her spot in the semi-finals.

Colombia- Andrea Tovar

Colombia

Colombia is back with another strong delegate at Miss Universe! The bars raised so high by the country since last two years by Paulina Vega wearing the Miss Universe crown and her successor Ariadna Gutierrez almost winning it back to back, is surely going to be maintained with a shrewd delegate like Andrea wearing the sash of Colombia.

France- Iris Mittenaere

France

Smart women never make the sound by their lips but by their actions and Iris Mittenaere is certainly one of them! Months ago when she was crowned as Miss France, I was sure that she is a force to reckon with and tonight she totally proved me right. Loved her vibe totally! Don’t be surprised if you hear the name of France in Top 6 again this year.

Indonesia- Kezia Warouw

Indonesia

This gorgeous woman has come a long way. Indonesia has never been able to surpass the swimsuit round but this year, I reckon that the country is going to slay the swimsuit round and move on to the evening gown round with all vigour, and who knows the nation might create another glorious history with Kezia Warouw representing Indonesia so beautifully.

Mexico- Kristal Silva

There is something in her eyes which no one else can replicate! The magic her body language embodies is totally beyond imagination and Mexico totally deserves to enjoy all the attention she has been getting since the day she was crowned as Miss Mexico.

Panama- Keity Drennan

Panama

There have always been women who prove out to be pleasant surprises post the preliminary competition and this year its Keity Drennan. That energy, synergy and radiance will certainly land her a spot in semi-finals.

Philippines- Maxine Medina

Philippines

The host girl nailed the swimsuit round with her vigorous, lively and affirmative aura. She came across as a pleasant and vibrant personality at stage.

Thailand- Chalita Suansane

Thailand

Thailand was strong last year and this year it’s going to be even stronger! What a lovely woman to wear the sash of this beautiful country. This Asian lady is slaying the hearts left, right and centre and her confident aura totally reflects she knows it well!

Venezuela- Mariam Habach

Venezuela

Representing the powerhouse country is no joke baby, because you got to meet the expectations on a really high note, and Mariam knew it well in advance. It would not be wrong to say that she was the star of tonight’s eve. What a stellar performance! I am totally speechless to express the charm Mariam’s performance embodied.

I was at a birthday party for a 7-year-old on the weekend and while I was holding his baby brother I couldn't help but wonder what kind of world will they be living in when they are my age. I worry about their future. The flooding in the National Capital Region is predicted to be worse than it was only two years ago when we had the highest water levels in a century. It's going to exceed that when waters crest in the next couple of days. I can't imagine what property owners are going through trying to save their homes and cottages. I don't understand how some people can deny climate change when the evidence of the harm that we humans have had on the environment is smacking them right in the face. I'm afraid things are going to get worse without it getting any better.

War of the Realms #2 - Jason Aaron (writer) Russell Dauterman (art) Matthew Wilson (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). This issue has the first major death of a character. Not an A-lister but I will still mourn their passing.

Spider-Man Life Story #2 The '70s - Chip Zdarsky (writer) Mark Bagley (pencils) Drew Hennessy (inks) Frank D'Armata (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). Now I'm more than convinced that this is a series of what if stories. There are so many deviations from canon in this issue that it's inconceivable that these events are "real". I'm still going to keep reading because these changes are cool.

Naomi #4 - Brian Michael Bendis & David F. Walker (writers) Jamal Campbell (art) Wes Abbott (letters). Naomi's origin story begins at last. She's not an Earthling.

Meanwhile, Mayor Kingpin tries to get his hooks into Detective North. I wonder if the bigger man will get to the big man. One thing that bothered me about this issue is that Matt left Frank tied up for the cops. Not very nice since Frank saved his ass from them.

Thor #12 - Jason Aaron (writer) Mike del Mundo (art) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). "The War of the Lokis" features Loki as he travels down the gullet of his father Laufey. Don't tell me you didn't read the last issue. Get thee hence and do so forthwith.

West Coast Avengers #10 - Kelly Thompson (writer) Moy R. (art) Triona Farrell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This is the last issue and that makes me have a sad face. I really liked this silly crazy team. If Kelly Thompson ever writes a Kid Omega/Quentin Quire and Gwenpool comic book I will definitely read it.

Avengers LGY #717: No Road Home #10 - Mark Waid, Jim Zub & Al Ewing (writers) Sean Izaakse (art) Marcio Menyz & Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). When this 10-issue weekly started it looked like this was an adventure for Hercules's team of Avengers and it ultimately was. The end result is that the good guys win again and Nyx is defeated. Hercules wasn't the hero of this story and schmaltzy as the way the actual hero wins, it still made me cheer. So all this was so Marvel could revamp the Gods of Olympus and Hercules's costume. I chuckled when they revealed what that house was about. I thought that it was the House of Mystery but that belongs to the Distinguished Competition.

The Amazing Spider-Man #19.HU - Nick Spencer (writer) Chris Bachalo (pencils) Wayne Faucher, Livesay, Jaime Mendoza, Victor Olazaba, Tim Townsend & Al Vey (inks) Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). The Lizard is featured in this "Hunted" tie-in. It's nice to see Chris Bachalo's art back on the racks.

Action Comics #1010 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Steve Epting (art) Brad Anderson (colours) Josh Reed (letters). Leviathan Rises part 4. I like this spy story. Lois and Clark go undercover as Chaz and Andi to find out what Leviathan is. There's a great teaser for an old Checkmate story that had me going there. I would love to see that organisation again. Next issue promises Leviathan Revealed! I can't wait.

The Avant-Guards #4 - Carly Usdin (writer) Noah Hayes (art) Rebecca Nalty (colours) Ed Dukeshire (letters). I like this rom-com centered around an arts college basketball team. It reminds me of a lighter "The L Word".

Black Widow #4 - Jen & Sylvia Soska (writers) Flaviano (art) Veronica Gandini (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). There's a double-cross that surprised me and a cliffhanger ending that makes waiting for the next issue torture. Appropriate for a story where Nat takes down an extremely violent website.

Doctor Strange #13 - Mark Waid (writer) Barry Kitson (pencils) Scott Koblish & Scott Hanna (inks) Brian Reber (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Herald Supreme part 2. I liked the surprise guest star.

Hulkverines #3 - Greg Pak (writer) Ario Anindito (art) Morry Hollowell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Okay, this Hulkverine, Hulk and Wolverine team-up was fun but the end made me roll my eyes and groan big time. Ugh.

Ironheart #5 - Eve L. Ewing (writer) Luciano Vecchio (art) Geoffo (layouts) Matt Milla (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). This issue finishes the first story arc involving the super villain Midnight's Fire. It was good enough that I enjoyed what I read but not good enough to make me keep this book on my "must read" list. I wish RiRi well. I was excited by an ad for a new Black Cat comic book coming out in June though.

Thanos #1 - Tini Howard (writer) Ariel Olivetti (art) Antonio Fabela (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). This 6-issue story will tell us how Gamora came to be adopted by Thanos. I only picked this up because I really like Ariel Olivetti's art. I don't care much for the two main characters so I might not continue with the rest. Fans of Thanos and Gamora will enjoy this I'm sure.

Runaways #20 - Rainbow Rowell (writer) Andres Genolet (art) Triona Farrell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I found this issue to be a big drag. The last page is too depressing for words. Plus the new artist didn't wow me. Something needs to happen next issue for me to want to keep reading.

War of the Realms: The Punisher #1 - Gerry Duggan (writer) Marcelo Ferreira (pencils) Roberto Poggi (inks) Rachelle Rosenberg (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). It's Frank versus Dark Elves and Frost Giants. They won't know what hit them. This is typical Punisher fare for those into explosive action. Frank leads a band of ex-cons armed with swords through the Lincoln Tunnel to help evacuate a hospital to safety. I miss reading a good Punisher story so this is a welcome sight on the racks.

War of the Realms: War Scrolls #1 - This anthology book has four short stories all lettered by VC's Joe Sabino.

"The God Without Fear part 1" by Jason Aaron (writer) Andrea Sorrentino (art) & Matthew Wilson (colours) features Daredevil fighting in Hell's Kitchen.

"The Warriors Three (Or Four)" by Josh Trujillo (writer) Ricardo Lopez Ortiz (art) Felipe Sobreiro (colours) features Fandral, Hogun and Hildegarde filling in for the unconscious Volstagg teaming up with Cloak and Dagger.

"Nice Shot, Frank" by Ram V (writer) Cafu (art) Brian Reber (colours) has the Punisher and Wolverine doing what they do best.

"Waugh of the Realms" by Chip Zdarsky (writer) Joe Quinones (art) Joe Rivera (ink assist) Rico Renzi (colours) has Howard "The Duck" Duckson hired to find a lost dog. This last one was gross.

This is for fans who want to collect ALL the War of the Realms comic books. Otherwise you can probably give it a pass.

Batman #69 - Tom King (writer) Yanick Paquette (art) Nathan Fairbairn (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). Knightmares finale. This issue is called "The Last Dance" and I don't know what song Batman and Catwoman are dancing to but I am singing the Etta James ballad "At Last" in my head. After many issues of dream sequences Batman is going to finally awaken. I did appreciate the explanation of how he got into his predicament. Now it's time to deal with Bane and Bruce's "father".

Blossoms 666 #3 - Cullen Bunn (writer) Laura Braga (art) Matt Herms (colours) Jack Morelli (letters). One of the three Blossoms is going to become the anti-christ. Yeah, you heard me. Cheryl and Jason were born as triplets. Their older brother Julian was whisked away at birth by the Order of Abaddon. Ooo, scary.

Ascender #1 - Jeff Lemire (writer) Dustin Nguyen (art) Steve Wands (letters). I never did finish reading Descender so I don't know if this is a sequel but it really looked familiar. I didn't feel like I was missing anything in this new story and I liked the mix of magic and technology. The villain reminded me of Emperor Palpatine but her empire is all based on magic. The hero is a spunky girl named Mila and I want to see where she goes from here.

Guardians of the Galaxy #4 - Donny Cates (writer) Geoff Shaw (art) David Curiel (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). The good guys find Gamora, followed by the bad guys. Expect to see a big battle. The main reason I'm reading this book again is because Groot is talking in whole sentences now.

Detective Comics #1002 - Peter J. Tomasi (writer) Brad Walker (pencils) Andrew Hennessy (inks) Nathan Fairbairn (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). Don't believe the hype. It's not a "duel to the death with Arkham Knight" but it is a pretty good fight. I was happy to see Damian play a bigger role in this issue. I'm sticking around for the bad guy's origin story.

Fantastic Four #9 - Dan Slott (writer) Aaron Kuder, Stefano Caselli & Paco Medina (art) Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). The FF escape, Galactus is freed and Doctor Doom's power mad plans are thwarted. Boy that was fun. I hope they don't leave Aunt Petunia's before telling us about Franklin's new friend Wendy.

Dial H for Hero #2 - Sam Humphries (writer) Joe Quinones (art) Jordan Gibson (colours) Dave Sharpe (letters). Seems like the H-Dial is a drug with lots of addicts looking for a fix. The potential for zany super powers is huge. I liked how they introduced the good versus evil theme in this issue.

Avengers #18/LGY #718 - Jason Aaron (writer) Ed McGuinness (pencils) Mark Morales (inks) Justin Ponsor (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Not an Avenger in sight this whole issue but you've got an Agent Coulson controlled Squadron Supreme instead. What made me groan a little was the big villain reveal at the end. I hope it's not a convenient deus ex machina.

Heroes in Crisis #8 - Tom King (writer) Mitch Gerads (art pages 1, 6-20) Ryan Sook (art pages 2-5) Mitch Gerads (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). I still don't see the ;point of this story with one issue left. I think the killer confesses here but I'm not sure. I'm waiting for the consequences to hit the fan and hope something is resolved in the last issue.

The Amazing Spider-Man #20 - Nick Spencer (writer) Humberto Ramos (pencils) Victor Olazaba (inks) Edgar Delgado & Erick Arciniega (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Hunted part 4. A surprise twist turns the tables giving Spider-Man even more incentive to confront Kraven. Meanwhile the son turns on the father as Kraven's son joins the hunt.

The Superior Spider-Man #5 - Christos Gage (writer) Mike Hawthorne (pencils) Wade von Grawbadger & Andy Owens (inks) Jordie Bellaire (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). I don't know who created the super villain Master Pandemonium but they must have been on crack. This guy has demons for arms and a hole in his stomach that's a gateway to hell. Time for Doctor Octopus to call in a consult. The team-up with Doctor Strange is a clash of science and magic. Let's see who's the better doctor.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #5 - Saladin Ahmed (writer) Javier Garron (art) David Curiel (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Speculator alert! It's the first appearance of a new super hero. Too bad they're named after unwelcome guests to our bird feeders. It's gang wars across Brooklyn and Miles is trying to prevent the death of innocent victims. The surprise appearance happens when Miles goes to confront Tombstone about his incursions into other gangs' territories. I noticed some changes in Miles this issue that didn't appeal to me. I think he's acting way too confident and macho now. His maturing has happened way too fast and might turn me off the character. If the art wasn't so impressive I might bench this book now.

Spider-Man City at War #2 - Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum (writer) Michele Bandini (art) David Curiel (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). I get a kick from noting the differences between these Gamerverse versions and the MU versions. This issue features Miles Morales and I prefer this Miles to the one in the comic book that I just finished. Peter and Miles meet for the first time but it's not in a friendly neighbourhood.
