Hi! I saw all your headcanon stuff on Andorians and since I have a mass of files around the Aenar, I wondered if you knew anything about Andorii? Is there a conlang out there already that you know of? I made one after lazily looking at the barebones wiki- but it is based on the Aenar Conlang I made :)) if you'd like the notes? if Andorii already exists please lmk! Also, love the headcanon ideas- they're amazing!!
Hello! I've been enjoying reading through some of your Aenar headcanons and lore!
With the bare bones of what's available in canon, and even the dubious canon, we know that Andorii consists of extended vowels and a mix of hard and soft consonants. Double vowels - aa, ii, ee, oo - are often either followed or preceded by hard consonants, though rarely both. I've also noted that, rather like Norwegian, they have emphasis on the first and third syllables more often than not, but they occasionally switch that up. The Andorian opera featured in Discovery, for example, while not actually meant to have proper words or a translation, follows these rule at least somewhat, but seems to change where the emphasis on syllables lies. I've been implementing bits and pieces of all of this into Emigre and my headcanons.
The closest I've been able to find to an actual conlang is from a defunct site which records an a priori conlang constructed by Spence Hill back in the 1990s. For the most part, I've spent as much time referencing that as I have inventing words and terminology myself, and I've been keeping the conjugations and tenses very simple for ease of use. I don't rely entirely on Mr. Hill's work, and I draw from multiple sources, but I will say his is the backbone of my own work.
Here's the Grammatical sketch of the Andorian language by Spence Hill and the dictionary he created for your own uses, if you like. The dictionary is not as extensive and comprehensive as I would like, personally, but it gives a solid foundation for creating compound words as needed and the overview of grammar is quite comprehensive. He also has a written script, thought it does not particularly resemble canon Andorii as seen in ENT, or depictions of Graalen found in some of the RPG sourcebooks. I also have a list of words and terms I've created, but some of them are a wee bit spoilery for Emigre.
At some point, I would like to sit down and actually make a dedicated conlang of my own for Andorians, but I'm not fully confident in my ability to do so properly without further education and research.
I'd love to chat sometime about our headcanons, if you ever feel like it! <3

Alright, it appears I've been summoned! I've actually answered something kinda like this before, so I'm gonna rehash it a little. Some context for the folks who don't know me: I write about Andorians. A lot. I take the fragmented, sloppy lore and do my best to make it make sense from a narrative and scientific perspective, while creating the largely absent culture from scratch and inventing everything from food to traditions, religion, fashion, body language, biology, political and social structures, wildlife, etc.
Since this question is for generic information, I'll be keeping my writing specific info/headcanons out of it.
With the bare bones of what's available in canon, and even the dubious canon, we know that Andorii largely consists of extended vowels and a mix of hard and soft consonants. Double vowels - aa, ii, ee, oo - are quite comment, which I've generally interpreted as an elongated vowel sound in each case, rather than a double vowel with a glottal stop in the middle, which would be indicated with a break in the form of an apostrophe, as with Va'Al Trask's name (SNW: Under the Cloak of War). Soft consonants are often paired with soft or hard consonants in the same word, often framing the vowel sounds, but I don't think I've seen as many cases of hard vowels being paired together. Then again, we hardly have a complete lexicon to be working with.
I've also noted that, rather like Norwegian, there seems to be an emphasis on the first and third syllables more often than not, but that's not set in stone and may just be down to my own biases. The Andorian opera featured in Discovery, for example, while not actually meant to have proper words or a translation (which is just so lazy), follows these rules for the most part, but it's not a perfect match by any means.
The closest I've been able to find to an actual conlang is from a defunct site which records an a priori conlang constructed by Spence Hill back in the 1990s. He did amazing work, and I really can't recommend reviewing it enough.
Here's the Grammatical sketch of the Andorian language by Spence Hill and the dictionary he created.
The dictionary is not as extensive and comprehensive as I would like, personally, but it gives a solid foundation for creating compound words as needed and the overview of grammar is quite comprehensive. He also created his own version of a written script, thought it does not particularly resemble canon Andorii as seen in ENT, or depictions of Graalen found in some of the RPG sourcebooks. Graalen seems to involve simpler, distinct symbols rather than an interconnected flow ending in a flourish that Andorii features. I've always wondered if Graalen is a more primitive form of writing, or a kind of short-hand - but, of course, we'll never know at this rate.
Hopefully, this is helpful!
Hi Star Trek fans and nerds! Do we know what the Andorian language sounds like? Do you have a headcanon for it? I would love to know all of your opinions and ideas!

important poll: what do you, personally, think Federation Standard is?
#star trek#federation standard#star trek meta#i know a lot of people don't think about it or assume it's just english#personally i like to think it's a conlang built around maybe english vulcan and andorian using only phonemes all or most spices#*most of the founding species of the federation can pronounce#i use english as the stand-in 'human' language bc starfleet is centered in san francisco before the invention of the UT so it's either that#or chinese. maybe esperanto? i don't think humans would have made up a whole new international language by the time they meet the vulcans#mine

Andorian /conlang?
So I'm a wee bit obsessed with Andoria atm- but I wanted to learn the language (like Vulcan/Klingon) but there's??? No?? Conlang?? the best I could find was a wiki article about Andorii and Gralen/ik
(If it exists PLS lemme know)
0-0 So, I may have done a thing and made a barebones conlang for both! They'd probably function as different dialects or possibly different forms of respect/formality I think.
Still trying to get the font uploaded- but here's how u say hi (Transliteration ofc):
Andorii: Eh'koydi ackh'er? (what news literally)
Gralen: kayyek ackhaar? (what news lit.)
Aenar Dialect: Ashe' fae (Hi) or Ka akker/ ka akker'maed? (What news or what's your news)

Yet another Aenar headcanon - Aenar have a familistic system to describe people outside of their family unit and nicknames! In the conlang I made 'se' is a prefix that denotes 'non-family' but familial status.
These guys collect found family members like Pokemon cards- which frustrates and annoys the Andorians to no end as the Aenar 'clans' seemingly grow bigger every time they visit.
Basically, Hemmer gets on the Enterprise, takes one look at the team, and is like 'Get in losers I'm your Uncle now'. (save for Uhura, that's his kid)

Ok, so first of all, sorry to be bombarding you with my silly little asks lmao
Second of all, @deepspacedukat has a headcanon that Andorians and Aenar find chubby partners more appealing on account of the fact that they’re on an icy planet, and more body fat = more warmth for you (and your family when you all cuddle together for warmth). I know you can’t speak for Andorians, but do you agree with this headcanon for Aenar?
Hey! no problem at all! Glad you have questions!!! :))
yes ofc. I think this is a great headcanon- and if I may-- I'll add to it!
More under the cut haha :))
Aenar usually dgaf about appearances- obviously as they can't see visually. There is no word for 'pretty' or 'ugly' in the conlang that I made...
Which brings us to attraction! yay! So, in a society that has no visual sight, what do you go off of to base (physical) attraction? The other senses- aka touch, smell, taste, hearing (less of taste, but u get what I mean haha) So smelling good and feeling good are important! (Aka soft textured clothes and body care products!) People's voices are super important too! (Esp. singing voices) They can be used to 'tell' personality sometimes, eg. someone with a soft voice = kind, and someone with a more deep voice = calmer
Personally, I don't think body type is incredibly important, but it's definitely an added plus.
In short, yes! I totally agree! (I also have some biology headcanons for the Aenar too...oops. I can totally go into detail again lol)
Thanks for asking! :3

Conlang (Aenar) oops
So, I was kind of tired of 0.01% Aenar rep/worldbuilding, so I headcanon'ed a bunch of things... safe to say I got a conlang and a few other fun things in my files :) i'll be posting a bit of what I have on here!
I thought just having Andorian would be kinda boring for the Aenar, as they were cut off for such a long time :/ so I thought they might have their own dialect! So here it is :))

The Birds, the Bees, The Seahorse and the Kangaroo.
One thing that has fascinated and perplexed scientists from all the worlds in the quadrant is the similarity between so many warp capable alien species. Two legs, two arms, one head and a torso connecting them all. Additionally many species utilise sexual reproduction, and typically it occurs between two sexes.
Andorians are considered distinct for their four sexes, which seems to be a source of fascination for some other races, such as humans who have a distinct obsession with sex. To avoid annoying conversations, alien-savvy Andorians tend to explain it that Andorians have two types of females and two types of males –it is not a popular tactic back home.
Although Andorians trend towards egalitarianism compared to other species’ gender dynamics, there is a set of typically understood things about each sex:
Zhen
Zhen are the strongest of the four sexes, they’re usually the tallest and the most aggressive. Zhen’s distinctive sexual characteristics are that they possess an ovipositor, 3 ovaries, and a pouch. Zhen’s are the defenders of their quads, and are the hardiest of the four, with distinctive curves from fat deposits that help survive harsh times when out hunting (traditionally) and make them the hardiest soldiers –though that isn’t saying much considering how Andorian soldiers are considered some of the most impressive soldiers in the Federation.
Shen
Shen are considered the most intelligent of the sexes, though there’s no scientific proof of this assertion. Shen’s do tend to do well in roles that require verbal communication compared to the other sexes. Their distinctive sexual characteristics are a uterus and mammary glands that provide sprogs nourishment. Upon joining a quad she will also develop fur on her abdomen that new born sprogs can hang from and suckle. Shen can also metamorphose into chan.
Chan
Chan are considered the fairest sex. Like shen they are slim and long limbed, but lack the faint curves that are typical of shen and zhen. Chan’s have a unique capability of emitting a soft trilling, or purring, that is especially soothing, as the vibrations in the antennas stimulate the hormones that help with sleep and general good mood. Their distinctive sexual characteristics are mammary glands, a phallus and a semi-dormant uterus to hold pre-hatched eggs in stasis. Chan can metamorphose into shen.
Thaan
Thaan are the shortest sex, and are usually stouter. They’re the house keepers, and often look after the children. Unlike the other sexes they cannot carry offspring in any way, and therefore contribute the least amount of energy and time to breeding. This has led to them being the caregivers in the quad, ensuring that the others are all well fed and cared for. Thaan Andorians have a phallus that is larger than the Chan.
Metamorpher
Although technically not a fifth gender, a metamorpher is recognised as not being either chan or shen. Metamorpher Andorians are not uncommon, as the complexity in mating often results in a Zhen, Thaan and two of the same sex forming a bond. In these cases, the hormonal triggers that begin the activation of fertility will cause an additional trigger in one of the same sexed Andorians, which transitions them from their birth sex to the missing sex. While they are in transition, they are not referred to by a shen or chan pronoun, but are given a distinct pronoun ‘Izhiga’ which can be translated into It but that is a poor translation of meaning. Metamorpher are not seen as lesser, but rather are recognised for their fortitude and devotion to their quad by accepting this change. As the process can be quite traumatic for the Andorian, they are held in high regard.
As yet it is not understood what exactly determines which of the two will undergo the metamorphosis, but some theories suggest it is based on an innate nature, or personality.

Hello!
Welcome to the Andorian Imperial Archive.
This is where I'll be putting everything I've ever developed for the Andorian Culture, inspired by my love of the delightfully snarky Shran.
I've built up a language and lots of cultural details and I've decided to start putting them all together for anyone to play with and use, because Andorians need more love!
