tagged by the amazing @little--abyss​ who challenged me to curate an otp playlist since most of mine are character or particular story-focused.

let me tell you, it was hard to choose because every time I’d have them picked out another song would come along and I’d be “no wait, this one!!” but here it is.

the otp I’ve written the most for on dragon age recently is anders/fenris! they are a hot mess so it was interesting to find songs for them.  I feel almost like the playlist covers the course of their relationship in kirkwall in my head. ...this better not inspire new fic in me.

the most playful song on my playlist for these two. it’s bouncy, and I feel can generally see it as a reflection of their early attraction on both sides.

a song more strongly from anders’ pov after fenris recovers some of his memories and they fight bitterly, both eventually convinced the other is going to abandon the other.

A small scene from an upcoming Fenders peice I am working on for WIP Wednesday - for context there is a curse that essentially prevents a person from being able to sleep by tormenting them with night terrors and nightmares.

Fenris sat on the edge of the bed, shoulders slumped and hands trembling with exhaustion. Dark circles ringed his eyes, his usual stoic expression marred by weariness and a lingering sense of dread. He had tried to hide the extent of his suffering from Anders, to shield him from the full weight of the curse's effects, but tonight he couldn't hold back any longer. Anders watched him from across the room, concern etched deeply into his features. He had noticed Fenris's increasing withdrawal, the haunted look in his eyes, and how he had begun to avoid sleep altogether, fearing the nightmares that awaited him. "Fenris," Anders said softly, approaching him cautiously. "You look like you haven't slept in days." Fenris let out a bitter laugh, devoid of any humour. "Perhaps because I haven't," he admitted hoarsely, his voice cracking with fatigue and emotion. "Anders, I..." He trailed off, unable to find the words to express the torment that consumed him. Anders closed the distance between them, kneeling in front of Fenris and gently taking his hands in his own. "Fen... please talk to me," he said earnestly. Fenris met Anders's gaze, his eyes betraying a mix of anguish and resignation. "I'm so tired, Anders," he confessed. Anders squeezed Fenris's hands gently, his heart aching at the sight of his partner's suffering. "I know," he murmured, his voice filled with compassion. "Anders, these nightmares..." Fenris began, his voice barely above a whisper, "they're consuming me. Every time I close my eyes, I'm back there." His hands tightened around Anders's, seeking some semblance of stability amidst the turmoil. Anders nodded, his expression a mixture of empathy and concern. "We'll find a way through this, I promise," he said softly, his thumbs gently stroking Fenris's hands. Fenris nodded faintly, the gesture almost imperceptible as he leaned forward, resting his forehead against Anders's shoulder. The touch offered a momentary solace, grounding him in the present amidst the storm of memories and fears that threatened to overwhelm him. Anders wrapped his arms around Fenris, holding him close in a silent embrace. He could feel the tension in Fenris's body, the way every muscle seemed to be wound tight with exhaustion and distress. "I'm here, Fen," Anders murmured, his voice a soothing murmur against Fenris's ear. "You're not alone in this." Fenris closed his eyes, allowing himself to lean into Anders's comforting embrace. For a moment, the weight of the curse felt a little lighter, the darkness a little less suffocating. In the warmth of Anders's presence, he found a fleeting sense of peace that had eluded him for days. "I don't know how much longer I can endure this," Fenris confessed quietly, his voice shaking slightly as he desperately tried to hold back the emotions that were spiraling out of control. "I'm scared," Fenris confessed quietly, his voice muffled against Anders's shoulder, as the tears finally broke free. Anders held Fenris tighter, absorbing the weight of his partner's anguish and fear. He felt Fenris trembling against him, the tension in his body palpable. Gently, Anders ran his hand through Fenris's hair, offering a soothing touch as he struggled to find the right words to comfort him. "I know, Fen," Anders whispered softly, his voice barely audible but filled with reassurance. "It's okay to be scared. You're not alone in this. I'm right here with you."

I think it's funny that when Cassandra gathers ppl to save the world you get the (mostly) het Inquisition. But when Varric gathers people it's always a wild pack of deranged fruits, AKA the DA2 crew minus Sebastian (the dlc straight) and the Veilguard minus Solas (status pending)
