Happy New Year!!

Y para empezar bien el año os traigo este corto Gif, de mis "Alter Egos", disfrutando el tiempo juntos.

Una de mis intenciones para este año es intentar ser mas activ@ en mis cuentas, y subir mas dibujos/animaciones.

Espero que os guste este sencillo y rápido GIF, de mis personajes y que empecéis bien el año.

Okay, so I haven’t seen any posts (which doesn’t mean they don’t exist!) about racism towards Latine people in Supernatural. I think one post I saw might have mentioned Edgar? But the thing I want to talk about is the Pishtaco (which I know as the Ñakaq). The show called it the “Peruvian fat-sucker,” which is actually the first issue that I take with it. The first thing you need to know is that the Ñakaq are white men. The fact that they made the Ñakaq Latine people is incredibly messed up. Because the thing is that the legend comes from ACTUAL HISTORICAL WHITE COLONIZERS boiling the bodies of indigenous Peruvian people for fat to oil their guns and create a salve to treat their wounds. They literally stole life from Indigenous people (traditionally in Peru fat more than blood is considered a symbol of life—the negative associations of fatness are another WONDERFUL gift from the colonizers—plus they actually had to literally kill them to get it) and the conquistadors used that life force to take other Indigenous lives and to preserve their own lives.

Supernatural literally flips this narrative. Two Peruvian immigrants are shown to be sucking the fat out of wealthy white middle-upper class people. Instead of the conquistadors being parasites, now it is the Native Peruvian people. THEY LITERALLY MADE THEIR ONLY TWO PERUVIAN CHARACTERS (and some of their only Latine characters) P A R A S I T E S. That is so messed up. But even more messed up is that, in doing so, they flipped the script from “white people come to Peru to steal land, livelihoods, and lives from Native peoples” to “Peruvian people come to America to steal white lives and livelihoods.” Sound familiar? This flipping of the script is textbook colonialist rhetoric. And these two “Pishtacos” moved to the US to get AWAY from the Pishtacos back home who kill people, so that they can try to “help people” instead. (Because fat shaming is AWESOME, but that needs to be a different post.) They need to leave their homeland for America to find a “better way.” The implication being that the Peruvian people back in Peru are savages, and in order to stop being savage, you must become American (and buy into both capitalism and fat shaming, which—again—is not a concept endemic to Indigenous Andean peoples). And the woman who can “civilize” (THIS WORD IS LITERALLY USED IN THE EPISODE!) herself is co-owner of the business, while her brother who refuses to assimilate is reduced to a menial job that is literally coded as menial BOTH culturally and by Dean’s reaction to getting assigned that job himself. Hello assimilation narrative!

And then, of course, the Latina woman’s white husband calls her brother a freak (which means he obviously thinks on some level that she’s a freak as well). White boy literally threatens to deport(/kill???) the brother and tells him his sister WANTS HIM TO BE DEPORTED (after all, she is the one who demoted him for not assimilating well enough)! And she ultimately sells him out by putting her white husband over him even though the husband’s already dead! Because the Winchesters are the only people who are allowed to save their sibling-who-is-killing-people and have that be the right thing to do every. damn. time. Family loyalty is the most important thing if you’re white people, but if you’re not white, assimilation should trump everything else. And even then it’s not quite enough, because no matter how much you assimilate you will never actually be white. (Don’t ask me about my generational trauma wrt this lolol.) In Supernatural terms, even if you’re not a killer, you’re still a monster.

The whole thing just reinforces the idea that the very presence of Latine people in the US threatens white American livelihoods (again, traditionally in the Andes fat symbolizes life and health) and lives. Because of course all the clients are white. And overall it basically sends the message that Latine people can’t be successful business owners, or if they are it’s because they’re “cheating” somehow or doing something underhanded literally at the expense of white people. And the bros deport her at the end of the episode, thus signaling that even those Latine immigrants who give in to the pressure to assimilate and even put white people above their own families still don’t belong here and are dangerous because they’re “feeding off the system.” Because that’s the rub—to become “civilized,” you must not only become an American, but a WHITE American, which you can never do. And deporting her is framed as a mercy! Because they didn’t kill her! And the true monsters—the white people who try to enforce cultural assimilation and then reject any efforts as not enough—walk free. The Winchesters are once again protecting the white American way of life.

OH and also they named this episode “The Purge.” And it ends with the killing of one Latine person and the deportation of another. The only two Latine characters in the episode. YEAH.

A famous West African chef and a Dean & Deluca alum have a new ‘it’ grain that could unseat quinoa

I knew that “millet” was a staple food in parts of West Africa only because E.J. Kahn described it as such in The Staffs of Life. I don’t recall that he said what type of millet, but its been thirty years or so since I read it. Turns out that the grain is “fonio,”  Digitaria exilis,  and it is the newest, hot “ancient” grain. 

If it takes off in the West I can only hope that it doesn’t skew the markets so as to leave consumers in west Africa priced out. I’ve never confirmed it but that allegedly happened with quinoa in the northern Andes until production was established in the Northern Hemisphere. That in turn resulted in another whole set of headaches for Andean producers.

Happy year of the rabbit, and rip my computer (QvQ)</3 It took me a while to upload a drawing because when I came back from vacation my computer stopped working and I went like "NOOO, my drawings!! (  T O T)/". Luckily it has managed to repair and recover most of the files (the important thing was kept, yay! Feliz año del conejo, y rip mi ordenador (QvQ)</3 He tardado en subir un dibujo ya que al volver de las vacaciones mi ordenador dejo de funcionar y fue a lo "NOOO, mis dibujos!! (  T O T)/". "Sometimes you just want to feel beautiful"

The truth is that I wanted to draw something spring theme, and I thought to make Andean with a "cute" makeup. At the end I liked the result, and probably I will draw something similar and some other version of Ande and Dean.

That, and I notice that it was quite a long time since I draw a new icon for my profile XD

La verdad me apetecía hacer algo primaveral y sé me ocurrió hacer a Andean con una apariencia "coqueta". Al final me agrado bastante como me ha quedado, y tal vez haga algún otro dibujo relacionado y alguna versión con Ande y Dean.

"Mockingly, silently, and with a careful look, discover what they're hiding" How are you?? I'm finishing this week of exams and assignments, so little by little I will be uploading drawings more constantly. And about the drawing, I wanted to try a contrast of grayscale (which is a color that represents my Alter egos- Ande, Dean and Andean), with a neon color in distinctive parts. And their secret? It doesn't really have any I just thought it looked cool XD

Qué tal?? Yo estoy terminando esta semana de exámenes y entregas de trabajos, por lo que poco a poco ire subiendo dibujos de forma más constante.

Y sobre el dibujo, quería probar un contraste de escala de grises (los cuales es un color que representan a mis Alter egos- Ande, Dean y Andean), con un color neon en partes distintivas.

Y su secreto? Realmente no tiene ninguno solo pensé que quedaba bien XD

Merry Christmas!!

I hope that despite all the situation that we still are, you have had a good year, and thank you very much for all the support you give me! (although they are few, I appreciate it a lot <3)

I hope you haven't been too malicious, because "Santa Dean" will visit you to give you gifts and joy! (?)

At first I doubted who to draw with a Santa Claus suit, but in the end I stayed with Dean, I think it suits him well and he will surely have fun delivering the gifts ~

Espero que a pesar de todas la situación que aun estamos hayáis tenido un buen año, y muchas gracias por todo el apoyo que me dais! (aunque son poquitos lo aprecio mucho <3)

Espero que no hayáis sido demasiado maliciosos, porque os visitara "Santa Dean" para daros regalitos y alegría!(?)

Al principio dude de a quien dibujar con traje de Santa Claus, pero al final me quede con Dean, creo que le queda bien y seguro se divertirá entregando los regalos~

Birthday 2020

(24/08/2020) Happy Birthday to me!! I bring you my Alter Egos to celebrate this day!!... Well, with a "little" delay Xd

But there is more! Since this day also is the birthday of some characters of games I like~

“Riddle” of Twisted Wonderland, and “Luka” of Ikemen Revolution!

And to top it all, both characters have something in common, of which I'm a huge fan.... and it's that both are inspired in "Alice in Wonderland"!! >A<)<3

So to celebrate this occasion I drew my characters with costumes of the same theme ~ Including the clothes of the birthday boys, + one  mine design~~<3 (Ande->Luka, Dean->Riddle, and Andean->”Alice”)

... Although I have been delayed a "bit" since it taken me longer than expected to finish the drawing, specifically It takes me several days to finish it, I'm proud of the final result and the good detailed it looks UwU)

As fun facts, originally I've another idea for the birthday drawing, but when I remembered that my B-Day was the same day that those 2, I changed all XD.

Of the "3", I love how it looks Dean, overall the boots! They are beautiful U3U)b (Riddle clothes are gorgeous)

I also like the result in Ande, but and although it mayn't seem like it, it's the one that most cost me to draw, since I had to redo it multiple times since I wasn't quite convinced the firsts times I drew it (mainly because of the poses)

I hope you like it as much as I do, and thank you very much for your support this year!

(24/08/2020) Feliz cumpleaños para mi!! Os traigo a mis Alter Egos para celebrar este día! .....Bueno, con un “pequeño” retraso Xd

Pero resulta que hay más! Ya que este día también coincide con los cumpleaños de unos personajes de unos juegos que me gustan~

“Riddle” de Twisted Wonderland, y “Luka” de Ikemen Revolution!

Y para rematar la cosa ambos personajes tienen algo en común, de lo cual soy muy fan... y es que ambos están inspirados en “Alicia en el País de las Maravillas”!! >A<)<3 

Así que para celebrar esta ocasión he decidido disfrazar a mis personajes con esta misma temática~ Incluyendo los trajes de los cumpleañeros, + un diseño mío~~<3 (Ande->Luka, Dean->Riddle, y Andean->”Alice”)

...Aunque me he retrasado un “poco” ya que me ha tomado más tiempo de lo previsto terminar el dibujo, concretamente me he tomado varios días para terminarlo, estoy muy orgullos@ del resultado final y lo bien detallado que me ha quedado UwU)

Como datos curiosos, originalmente tenia otra idea para el dibujo de cumpleaños, pero cuando me acorde que justo mi cumpleaños coincidían con esos 2, pues decidí cambiarlo completamente XD.

De los “3″, me encanta como me ha quedado Dean, sobretodo las botas! Son hermosas U3U)b (La ropa Riddle es hermosa)

También me gusta el resultado de Ande, pero y aunque no lo parezca, es el que más me ha costado de dibujar, ya que tuve que rehacerla multiples veces ya que no me acababa de convencer las primeras veces que la dibujaba (principalmente por las poses)
