Keeping in mind that I really want natural hair!Annabeth for the show, I cannot get the idea of blonde live action Annabeth out of my head purely because I think I’d die of laughter if every time someone’s blatantly racist to her she asks “is it because I’m blonde” and That’s the reason she bleached it

every day mcr fans prove to be the worst people alive huh
#oh so you can excuse frank being antisemitic and history of being sexist and publicly bashing his young fanbase to spread hate for them#and gerard marrying a racist and being very close friends with several other racists and antisemitics#and turning comments off when Black fans were telling him to make a statement during the protests#and didnt even include a donation link and spun it about him being ‘sensitive’ to fans rightfully being mad#you can ignore the history of racism in their band and members and who they hang around#and you can ignore (again) the racism and antisemitism in the fanbase and entire scene that had people sending BIPOC death threats recently#and you can ignore how mcr continues to profit off nostalgia and any work/activism they did in the early 2000s while making no statement#or work or helping people in the current day despite being rich and able to safely instead.#while either 1) getting mad because frank apparently has an ai music video. excusing everything including the antisemitism he JUST left as#a comment on said announcement because it doesn't concern you#or 2) calling it discourse or ‘cancel culture’ and making jokes about it until ‘everyone gets bored and things go back to how they were«#as a GOOD thing because it doesn't concern you and you're that big of a piece of shit#like yay happy for you that your shitty idol who frequently writes incest and constantly sexualize Asian women#and has a history of being tolerate and complying to racism wore a fucking skirt to get richer#but can you actually have any fucking morals or care for anyone around you and get some fucking perspective.#i dont give a shit if you like their music but how people constantly talk about the members as if this is something they can and should#brush under a rug and never deal with is so infuriating and nauseating to see every fucking time#im sending every single Jewish and POC person in the alt/emo community my love. you all deserve better than this shit.

“Ella worked with Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Nelson Riddle,” Morris Rosman said, but never recorded with Frank Sinatra because at the time it wasn’t approved for a black and white singer to do a duet."
First and foremost, they recorded the duet "Necessity" in 1954.
Second, did they plan to record romantic songs? I think "Going Out of My Head" is quite romantic, and we know they were planning to put that song on their album in 1967.
Either way, this statement doesn't seem right to me, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that Ella said this as some kind of diversion from the truth (my theory being that Norman hated Frank because he was in love with Ella but knew Frank and Ella had been having an affair for a long while).
*Also (based on the tag), she recorded several duets with Bing Crosby in the 40s and 50s. So, yeah, this makes no sense (and I love it!!!)
*Another also, on the 1958 episode of The Frank Sinatra Show, where Ella guest starred he literally said (which was scripted) "I sure am a big fan of yours, and I don't know, maybe, why don't we make an album together?" I will say this for Sinatra. The man would've moved heaven and earth to make the album with her if it was discouraged for racial reasons. He was a wonderful contrarian in that way. And let's not forget that his one regret of his career was not recording an album with Ella. Beyond the Norman and Frank feud, apparently, Capitol and Reprise never could come to an agreement in terms of recording times for contractual reasons.

It is possible to interact with people whom share opposing views and no this is not about pineapple on pizza. In fact, it is imperative that you learn how to be civil with some people who you may find difficult to agree with.
At work, Youngin would often tell me that the guy that trained him (Ginger) was a misogynist. I had never met Ginger, and I had very little to say on this matter. But I would ask Youngin some questions about him because I like to know the other seasonal workers a little. I ask about Ginger- first words from Youngin's mouth 'he's a misogynist.'
I asked him why he thought that. (There are many misogynists at this location, as someone that is woman-shaped I see it often, I am comparing notes.)
"We were on our way to a location and a driver was going really slowly. When he got around her he said 'fucking women drivers.' Like he was going out of his way to prove that the driver was a woman."
The last month or so, Youngin worked exclusively with me because I knew that it was a matter of time before he said something that pissed off one of the guys. He was not going to get along with people here, it just wasn't happening.
When he left, everyone wanted to know what he was like to work with. And I finally got to have a conversation with Ginger.
"I'd like to ask you something a little strange- he said that on his first day there was an issue with a driver going slowly. Can you tell me about that?"
"Oh yeah! She was going super slow and when I got around her I said 'yup- little old lady driving.' And he was like 'what's that supposed to mean?' And I just kind of dropped it, but I hear he was saying I was a misogynist over it?"
So I give Youngin some grace because he's young, he's got a social bubble that's very liberal, he has not met very many people that weren't part of that kind of scene. But he often talked about how every person here has said something that pissed him off and he seemed really surprised that I (woman-shaped queer liberal) would be okay working with all these sexist homophobes.
And I give grace to Ginger because he had no reason to think that his words would be interpreted like that. What he was saying was normal to him. This is... somewhat the culture of landscaping jobs. And its not even close to the worst thing I've heard out of these dudes mouths. (Literally had one of the dudes comment that he would like to 'motorboat' one of the pedestrians.)
It was weird for Youngin to carry that with him for the whole two months that he worked here, over a very... small comment.
Every single person I've worked with here has said something that has given me pause and I tuck it away to rant about later and then I let it go. If it gets out of hand, I talk to one of the bosses about it. I know how to contact HR. I came into this place knowing that I was going to disagree politically with most of the people that I work with because I'm coming in to a culture that is fundamentally different from my own.
If I am being frank, I find the overt bigotry somewhat better than the corporate bullshit of 'we value your contributions, but won't be granting your accommodations request out of fairness to other workers' or the glass cliff or literally being fired for my sexual orientation but phrased with 'oh you just weren't a good fit for the culture here.' I at least know what I'm getting into when I come to work. I know what not to talk about. Last time I thought I was safe to talk about something queer with my boss she blindsided me with some transphobic garbage.
Its admirable to stick up for the marginalized people in your life, but part of changing minds is knowing the time and the place to comment. I think I've changed more minds at this warehouse by being a visibly out lesbian at work than I have by making carefully crafted speeches.
That is fine. It is fine to disagree. Sometimes you have to work with racists, homophobes, and assholes. That is part of being an adult. You talk about things like... sports or TV or weather or some cool bug you saw. Finding common ground with people who are different from you in many ways is an important part of socialization and it sucks to think you have anything in common with a jackass but look- you're spending 7-ish hours with these people and at some point some of them are going to say stupid shit. You are going to say stupid shit also. I have said my fair share of stupid shit. Deal with the fact that you're all stupid shits.
And for fuck's sake, wear your hardhat.

Do you have any recs for more obsucre experimental poetry?
Not particularly obscure, no, but some who experiment with what writing can do and that I love: obviously Anne Carson (particularly Fragments of Stesichoros, Variations on Ibykos, Decreation), Alice Oswald (particularly Memorial and Nobody), Hanif Abdurraqib (his work on voice and pacing is phenomenal; everything is worth a look, but A Little Devil in America is a good first pick), Frank Bidart (more so his early work, like The Book of the Body), Natalie Diaz (less about format and more about thematics: the way she uses eroticism as political is just--mwah; see Post-Colonial Love Poem), Rainer Maria Rilke (the most abstract of his writings are also most extraordinary--see Sonnets to Orpheus; in English, Crucefix is lovely and unique in his takes on the text); Emily Berry and Rebecca Lindenberg have the same sort of cheeky experimenting with format and lacunae that I enjoy, though not everything is strong--see especially Letter to Husband by Emily Berry and Love, a Footnote, by Rebecca Lindenberg; Gertrude Stein (Tender Buttons obviously); OBVIOUSLY too E. E. Cummings, everything he's ever written, because he's a fucking GENIUS. Okay. And not technically advertised as poetry, but two things: John Cage's letters to Merce Cunningham (his attempts at translating music-feeling into written meditations are so thought-provoking), and fiction-camouflaged poetry--Faulkner and his experimentations with point of view. I learned a lot about what writing could do in The Sound and the Fury. Finally, experiments in translation are an amazing way to rubik's cube a text and put its intersubjectivity at the forefront: see Andal's sacred poetry doubly-translated by Ravi Shankar and Priya Sarukkai Chabria in Autobiography of a Goddess, Anne Carson's own works which I've already cited (her work in liberal translation is usually better than the solely authorial stuff, though usually translational and authorial are irretrievably linked in her writing anyway--a good example is her Bakkhai); feminist, anti-racist or anachronical works of translation, which challenge the idea of "faithfulness" and lampshade translator's subjectivity (no, not Ezra Pound: leave Ezra Pound on his shelf, we're good); if you have French, Olivier Py's translations of Shakespeare for the stage--much more exciting and baroque (and queer) than what Bonnefoy did, even if Bonnefoy's own poetry is quite striking. He's timid with Shakespeare, and that's a disservice. Oh, poetry-as-theatre and definitely experimental: Sarah Kane, too, though she's hard to go through. She explodes writing and expression though, and it's extraordinary.
That's all that comes to mind for now; I hope something in there strikes your fancy!

Vaguely inspired by the convo about racial biases with Jason but sort of going in detail a bit more, and also I'm making an excuse to rant about Bill.
This fandom does have a continual habit of ignoring/sidelining black characters I feel, and this does in part come down to Starkid itself having few main black roles (which is why I'm so excited for Cinderella's Castle) and being proportionally predominantly white, but even when there are main black characters I just feel like they get ignored a lot more, or at least sidelined within fanon in favor of white characters.
Like Bill, for example, isn't unpopular at all. I think everyone loves Bill I've never seen hate for him but I also never see anyone... talk about him. Not in detail. I never see Bill analyses, or people talk in depth about his role in TGWDLM or Watcher World, or people talk about him period outside of just "I like Bill, he's cool". And I feel like that isn't fair! I love Bill so much! Like, for example, you see people analyze Paul and his relationship to Pokey, you see people analyze Ted and Tinky, but Bill and Blinky are just... never mentioned. Not to the same extent.
And I'm not trying to get on a soapbox here saying people are being intentionally racist, but it makes me sad to see characters like Bill be sidelined because I think he's really interesting. Hopefully when(if?) Bottle Imps comes out, we'll get to see more of him.
I was just ranting about Bill but this all applies to Frank too, honestly. I don't like Frank as much as I like Bill but I definitely feel like if he was white he'd be a lot more popular. Is that a hot take? I don't know. This isn't a Starkid special this is like- every single fandom ever but I think it's important to point out.

Okay so, hear me out here: Heroes of Olympus, Murder Mystery AU. There is a suicide case that happens at Mt. Olympus (Which is the name of the school), though the evidence is lacking that its a suicide case. Now star our main characters! First and Foremost, Percy Jackson: Our resident skater boy and also co-captain of the swimming club (Partially because he didn't wanna be captain, partially because he almost got expelled multiple times) When he had been in the stands of the body, he saw many irregular bruises and cuts lining the body, and he is quite suspicious... Now, Annabeth Chase: Student council member, C grades because you guys forget she is dyslexic, and ADHD, and overall, kind of a geek in terms of architecture (Ifktyk) and high school sweethearts with Percy. The first person Percy confided in about catching the detail and she kept a journal with that information. Then, Frank Zhang: Okay so, a resident of the biology club (wink wink) and overall just a nice guy you could go to for support and guidance. Frank knew the person who died and he knew they were depressed as he talked to them but suicide was quite unusual which caused suspicion. Hazel Levesque: Now, I cannot stand Fanon Hazel so I will try to be as realistic as I can. When she first joined, everyone thought she was the innocent one and the fact she came to the high school younger added. Until she cursed a teacher out for being racist and stuck a pencil in another persons eye as they called Frank a slur. Hazel thought the way the school dismissed the suicide was quite suspicious so she confessed to Frank which gave her more information. Leo Valdez: Leo Valdez is as expected, Class clown, acts dumb even though he gets the highest grades in Math and good grades in physics (Yeah, Canon Leo did calculus when he was EIGHT, so suck it), he is the brains of the whole operation (With Annabeth) Piper McLean: Homecoming Queen, Best Friends (?? Debatably Platonic) with Leo and Jason, good reputation because of her (cough cough manipulation) skills, tried cheerleading, hated it, and joined self defense classes, and overall the voice of the operation. Jason Grace: Now last but definitely not least (He's my pookie <3) Now, The skipper (Captain) of the football team, quite popular, the person who died was in the football team and confided to him about something VERY useful, the glue of the group Nico Di Angelo: Information smuggler. His dad owns the funeral and morgue service the body was taken to and smuggled the information to the 7, we are also following Solangelo because I couldn't resist! RARA: Reyna will be our messenger. She will indirectly help the 7 with the information smuggling. She is in taekwondo and is in cahoots' with the Grace siblings (Especially Thalia wink wink) Sorry guys, just needed to get that out of my system lol. Let me know if you like the vision

"if it's okay for poc to be cast as originally white characters then why can't we cast white people for poc characters"
Great question I have a wonderful answer for you
to start this is about a post I saw about Leah playing Annabeth Chase in the Percy Jackson show. Someone in the comment section was complaining about it and saying that they think a white person should be casted for Hazel if there's ever a live action heros of Olympus. This person claimed that if race has no meaning when casting a black perosn for Annabeth, then why would it matter for Hazel?
here's where this person is so incredibly wrong that it confuses me on what their brain is used for if not to make a complete thought. Hazels race was one of the most important things about her backstory
Hazel was a woc in there 1940s she went to a school for colored children. She legit experienced segregation. The whole reason that she had a connection to Leo is because she went to school with his grandfather sammy and the only reason she knew sammy was because of that school for colored children. Just that is enough to tell her that yes her race does in fact have a meaning and isn't something you should change
then the person in the comment section started talking about Frank.. then Leo and then piper. Basically they ranted on and on about any poc character
Let's start with Leo now. I'm bringing back the hazel point because again the only reason that he and Hazel had a funky connection at the beginning of moa is because of that school for colored children. Leo's Hispanic heritage is also important when concerning how his life with his mother was up till he died. One of the reasons he ran away from his aunts house was because she was religious and constantly called him the devil.
what about Frank? Well his Chinese heritage connected him to Poseidon which made him related to Percy which isn't massively important but you know it's a plot point so I see no point in getting rid of it
and piper? One of the first things we find out about piper is that she is bullied for being cherokee. The FIRST thing we see of piper interacting with characters besides Jason and Leo is her experiencing racism. It is insane that some people think that's just a thing that could be thrown away. Her Cherokee heritage also relates to her main character development in the trials of Apollo and lots of her "wisdom" is old cherokee stories her grandpa would tell her
and tell me one fucking moment in the series where Percy or Jason's race was important. Other than them being Greek/roman because they're all Greek and Roman so shut up
oh but since everyone's complaining about Annabeth being black in the show that must mean that her being white in the books is SOOOOO important
... it's not. In fact she's literally 1000x tanner than most of y'all depict her in the "canon" fanart so... yeah. And those of y'all saying "what about her being blonde that's her main character thing blah blah blah" I'm sorry is this the 2000s??? Blondes being dumb is a horribly outdated stereotype that is only ever used in a joking manner now back when the lightning thief was written in was a thing used against blonde women but now it isn't.
You know a certain group that is targeted and deemed dumb because of how they look? People of color, specifying black women.
Annabeth Chase being black is probably one of the best casting decisions ever, and I say this knowing that race wasn't the main thing when casting. Leah is the perfect person to play Annabeth and I will die on that hill. She has the script determination and the emotional range that makes her the perfect candidate for Annabeth.
If Annabeth Chase were real she would love Leah and she would hate you all for saying Leah isn't her.
Rant ended. Get your heads out of your asses before you say more racist shit.

Frank: You know what's the solution to all of our problems? Rice
Frank: Hungry? Eat some rice
Frank: Your phone fell in the water? Put it in a bag of rice
Frank: Your skin is breaking out? Use some rice water
Frank: A monster is chasing you and you have no weapons except for a bag of rice? Throw the rice in the monster's eyes, pray, and run for your life
Percy: Dude, I really don't think that's the best-
Frank [on the verge of a mental breakdown]: RICE
(Note: this is not racist cause I'm literally Chinese and I just felt like projecting my anxiety onto Frank cause he 100% has a lot of bottled up emotions)

ok but you see the thing with bob is that there are like a million other dudes in the scene who are just like him. like, my chem didn’t kick bob out because he was racist, in fact i’m like 90% sure that him making racist jokes didn’t even come up. when people sit around and act like gerard, frank & mikey are some sort of white saviors and banished bob for saying something racist, it’s like. not only are you patting their asses but also, it’s not that simple & it’s never that simple. we’ve heard gerard, frank & mikey laughing at racist jokes before, & mikey is still friends with bob to this day. they are not racist people imo but they are complicit in racism. they’re band guys from the 2000’s. and that’s just something you sort of have to accept & think about critically rather than just brush your hands of it. the hatred towards bob on this site is weird, not bc it’s unwarranted but because it always seems to conveniently forget and/or leave out the bits about him being racist. but at the same time, white people who go off about how racist bob is all the time are annoying too because it’s not just him. like there is a problem in the scene, and your white faves are not exempt from it. hell, even patrick stump was roommates with bob, like. i feel like white guilt makes many my chem fans here on tumblr lash out at bob so much, but like it’s not just him. at the same time though, it’s not like any of the guys in my chem are raging bigots, whether they still keep in touch with bob or not. i guess it’s a hard pill for people to swallow but basically anything you love will be, at some point or another, touched and affected by someone who is either actively racist, laughs at racist jokes, performs microaggressions, loves someone who is racist and/or keeps their mouth shut when an act of racism is happening right in front of them. and it’s not like “ah, well i simply can’t enjoy anything anymore,” you just gotta go in with nuance. bob isn’t some outlier, he’s every other scene dude from that time period. and it’s totally fine to clown on the guy if you wanna, whatever, but it’s just important to remember that like, if you’re a white person in bandom you are not as far away from being bob as you think you are, sorry. the only way out is through & if you really want to show that you care about poc you should be lifting us up, reading what we write, standing up for us & actively trying to change the scene

Something I hate when u try defend Debbie, Mandy, Karen, fiona and even Monica is how someone will always come back with the "Frank was abused and you hate him🤡" like yes I do!! Cause its different.
Debbie, mandy and Karen are all teenage girls who show that they have grown from their actions and are better after! Frank is a old man who has had his whole life to work through his trauma and get better. Frank didn't do something wrong and change for the better (in the space or a couple years) like the girls. He forced Monica to keep fiona and did it YEARS later with Carl too. Frank didn't just 1 or 2 horrible things, he did hundreds.
And can we talk about how Frank is a massive factor to why Debbie, fiona, Monica are the way they are?? Frank didn't break the cycle and he abused his kids and his partner. The other 3 actively try not to do that! Debbie is a fantastic mum she's not perfect, but she would never tell her kid to sleep with an adult or insult and belittle her. LIKE FRANK. Fiona spends her life till she is 28 doing everything for her siblings, sure she makes some mistakes, but she would never hurt them on purpose. LIKE FRANK. Monica is a terrible mother, but she tries to get help. She wants to get better, and who is it that almost always pulls her down?? FRANK.
A lot of what Frank does can be explained by his abuse and I really sympathise with him when we meet his mum. I hate that women. But a tragic childhood is not enough for me to forgive a man who has done the following things
-got his very young son kidnapped over a bar bet.
-used a dying woman for money and slept with her knowing she would likely die
-gave his son a bloody nose over a t shirt
-neglected all his children from fionas birth to his own death
-sexually assaulted his wife
-got a convicted pedophile into Congress
-told his underage daughter to sleep with grown adults so that he could sneak into that adults house to sleep
-broke his mental ill wife out of hospital, with the help or his young children
-tricked his son into thinking he had cancer
-tricked his son into being the bio father of 6(?) Kids
-used another mental ill woman for his own enjoyment
-told his own daughter to be "skins" in a game (meaning to take her shirt off 😃)
-forced his 9yr old daughter to become the main carer of all her siblings
-left his 3 very young children on the side of the road while one of them was extremely ill
-lied about being gay to hundreds of people for personal gain
-used ANOTHER mentally ill woman
-became the sponsor to an addict just so he could live with him and later outed him as gay even tho the man wasn't gay ??
-brought monica back into his children's life because he wanted money(he tricked her to coming back)
-has used prostitution services
-steals form pretty much everyone
-repeatedly ignored his youngest daughters attemps at closeness
-hes racist
-seduced his daughter in attempts of getting her liver
-ruined his daughters wedding
-given drugs to a baby with down syndrome
-called CPS on his own kids, particularly forcing his young adult daughter to now legally becoming guardian of her 5 siblings
-creating credit cards under his kids names
-used homeless people to create a second family
-handcuffed his wife to a bed so she couldn't get an abortion
-spiked his kids with drugs
-pretending his kids was homeless and begging with him
-showed clear sexual interest in Karen (a teenage girl)
-tried to strangle his daughter
-He advised Carl to use Chuckie to smuggle drugs, and then gave both of them away for police
-He refused to go Carl's parent night at school, but instead went to Karens
-encouraged his son to be a drug dealer
And that's just what I can remember of the top of my head. So yes FUCK FRANK and love my shameless girls
