Valentine's Core Exchange Fic
Hi @agent-sushi-fbi !! I have your gift ready for the DP Valentineâs Core Exchange!!! Thanks SO so much for being patient with me while I wrapped this up! I had an absolute blast working on this and I really hope you enjoy reading it! I have also gifted it to you on AO3, where my user is Abitnervous
Dead on Main is my fav ship and I had a lot of fun making something new for ya~
Also, thank you to my helpers! I did some brainstorming with @stealingyourbones and @bonebrokebuddy was my beta reader! Yall were fantastic help!!
This was a super fun event, so thank you to the mods at @valentines-core-exchange for organizing this! Aaaaaaaa!!
Without further ado: Hella Good Brew

Fic snippet:
Finally, the figure came into view, and when he saw Jason he grinned, fangs visible. Jasonâs heart nearly stopped.
âHey, Red!â
âPhantom,â he greeted, keeping his voice low since he didnât have the benefit of having the modulator to cover for him. Keeping the âmaskâ on without the helmet was much harder.
The ghost floated over to the counter casually, resting his head on his hands thoughtfully. âWhat brings you all the way over here?â He batted his eyelashes at Jason, smirking. Goddamn him.
Phantom always bantered with him like this. Jason told himself it was not the reason he kept coming back.
âThe usual. Making sure youâre not up to trouble.â
âBut Red!â Phantom put a hand to his chest in mock offense, âIâm always up to trouble!â

I humbly request more Charlie X Reader content. I do not want anything truly specific, but maybe a camping scenario? I want you to have fun with it, if you are able.
~ Fancy Anonđč
I LOVE CAMPING!!! I want to run off into the great nothing called the desert and LIVE in the BOILING rocks and DRINK from the toxic cacti.
Camping with Charlie
He actually really liked camping, he loves the outdoors and enjoys hiking. Charlie use to go backpacking as a small guy so heâs pretty talented in all the nature stuff
You two go camping every summer, he gets to show off how absolutely manly and rugged he is and spend time with you! Itâs really fun
Charlie is kinda shit at packing though, itâs rarely organized and he forgets at least one thing at home. So itâs a gamble on what youâre without, keeps you on your toes
He forgot like ALL of the food once and he tried to catch some of his own. Bro cannot set up traps so you had to find a saltys and had wonderful burgers
You force him to go stargazing with you. Laying your head on his tummy gazing up at the endless stars. Itâs really tranquil, like nothing could ever take away from this moment. Like the world stopped only for you two.
Bro is the opposite of Snow White, all those animals hate him. Every second your camp is being raided by a raccoon or bird. You donât know who he pissed off but those animals are pissed tf off.
Itâs funny watching him try and wrestling a squirrel out of your camp food. Youâre munching on trail mix and you watch him try and not get bit. Oh you would help, but youâre just so tired!
He loves making smores with you. Gets REALLY heated about the âright wayâ to make smores. Itâs down right comedic how pressed he gets
Camping near a body of water is the best! You two swim around all day, get hella sun burnt and then spend the rest of the night absolutely freezing with aloe Vera
But it is fun, he loves sitting in the water with you and just floating around. Maybe heâll go fishing and you two can have some fish for dinner!

Please I need to see the ship kids? Is Laios a good uncle? Do they have scales/feathers or sharp teeth? Horns? Claws? (This series has me in a chokehold rn)
*SQUEEZES YOU IN MY GRASP*
I had to put everything under the cut because this is a hella long post so everyone else just look at these cute farcille babies and rock on
HI HOWDY!! Laios is obsessed with these little freaks (he would never call them that though cause he would literally die for them if needed) Heâs essentially been right by Falin and Marcilleâs side since day one when it came to the babies! Heâs a surprisingly good uncle but definitely that one where he gives the kids gifts that the parents are like âYEAH NO- heâs 8 he doesnât need a crossbowâ
He definitely gives the kids little trinkets he gets from foreign dignitaries since I donât picture Laios really liking all the gifts and gold and money people will give him to butter him up when he catches onto it. The cool monster stuff stays with him though, but heâll let the kids look at anything cool he gets that he decides to keep for his personal collection. I like to imagine that when he holds them he always keeps them to the side of his hip, real mom type stance when heâs holding them.
Secondly, GREAT QUESTION!! They have a little bit of both! Haru (the cream colored baby) has feathery down covering his ears, chest, and wings as well as basically anywhere else that he isnât scaly or covered in soon to be thought flesh. Heâs more of a dragon from the waist down but bird from the waist up like Falin was.
His sister Haize (the apple red one) has the most scales! (But the least feathers out of the pair) Haize has more of that traditional dragon look and unlike Haru, sheâs dragon basically to the neck up. She has scrawny little forearms that arenât quite attuned to walking yet but once she grows theyâll become a lot more useful for the crawling around stage of her infancy! Haru will often try to climb on her back because he wants to be fast too- heâs only a little guy but he still hates that she got the extra limb genes where he didnât.
Both have wings though the down that Haru has makes it a bit difficult for him to fly, though he really grows to enjoy flapping and the flutter of his wings! Haize has more sleek featherless dragon wings which make her flight process a bit easier, though her longer body means that her flying is quite silly (itâs like when you pick a cat up by their middle and they just dangle, imagine that but with flight and her trying to tuck her limbs in to have less weight pulling her down). Both have claws on their dragon halves as well as spikes/spines on their backs though only Haize has been born with the making for clawed hands, Haru grows into his later in life!
Really Falin and Marcille are glad that the kids are in relative captivity, Haruâs inherited the âhead empty, no thoughts, tee heeâ touden genes and theyâre like 75 percent certain that he would get eaten if natural selection had its way - assuming Haize didnât protect him ofc. Haru is very sleepy as a baby while Haize is very cranky. She likes to sleep on her back but her itty bitty dragon wings get cramped when she does and sleeping on her side isnât as a comfy. Aside from that she just likes attention and being with her parents which is tough due to their jobs.
Haru has colic due to the light magic that manifests in his stomach pouch organ! He was born with an organ similar to the one red dragons have that allows them to breathe fire! It allows him to conjure and manifest light and can be weaponized if a dragon knows what theyâre doing. Really itâs much more useful as bioluminescence for dragons who dwell in darker dungeons as it allows them to lure in prey and the pouchâs brightness grows as a dragon approaches somewhere stacked with mana and magic which is an easy way to find enemies or food! Typically light dragons are very powerful but a rare find as theyâre often incredibly soft and unable to protect themselves as babies as well as their newly born pouches which let off a lot of glow due to basically incubating for a year or so and refuse to dampen until they learn to properly dispel their magic via spells. Not to mention how easy of a target it is for their obvious weak spot, one bad slash to the tummy and ur done.
Most dragon babies learn early as having that much magic in you hurts a LOT but Haru takes a lot while to learn it, though Falin soon learns that pressing on his stomach and conjuring her own light magic to siphon Haruâs own eases a lot of his tummy aches and pains.
(I got way more facts about these guys so if you wanna know more just send another ask!! :]!! /gen)
#i read this as soon as i got it i swear and had to give everything i had :sob:#ignore how i cant decide if her name is haize or haizel im indecisive :Sob:#PLEASE ask me more questions about these guys i have so much art planned for them AND a fic if y'all r interested.#also one of them is trans and I dare you to figure out which one (technically theyre both trans but thats for a later post so shhh)#fan kid lore#Haru and Haize lore#farcille fankid lore#farcille#oc lore#fankid#marcille dungeon meshi#falin dungeon meshi#dungeon meshi#laios dungeon meshi#cursed tag ->#delicious in dungeon#dungeon posting#dunmeshi#dunmeshi marcille#dunmeshi fankid#farcille fankid#farcille kid#half dragon#hybrids#ship babies#magic lesbian babies#tw babies#my art#farcille fanart#sapphic babies

Me and my friend Marco (@simplemanissimple) have been brainstorming an F&H Beastars Au for a couple weeks now and i finally finished the Termina cast! These were hella fun to make and it genuinely helped me learn how to draw some animals i don't usually draw
Several bullet points about what the characters are doing under the cut for anyone who's curious
-Levi, Marina and Samarie are Cherrington academy students. They're the same age as canon, they're like on their last year of school.
-Domek is one of the higher ups of the academy, he wants Marina to become a beastar hence why he put her in the special classes program.
-The wars Levi was in were turf wars between the mafia groups of the back alley market, as he is an ex Shishigumi member.
-Daan owns the clinic at the back alley market where he rehabilitates predators that went crazy from meat addiction.
-He's been helping Levi overcome his meat addiction. He now works part time at the clinic, Daan basically adopted Levi.
-Caligura is the boss of the Dokugumi mafia at the back alley market.
-the NLU is an organization specialized in capturing violent predators thay have gone mad from eating meat. Abella is one of their most important members, after all who's better to catch a predator than a predator?
-Karin is an investigator that covers cases of predation all over the city, this led to her becoming paranoid and rude towards carnivores.
-Pav is a cop. He's part of the investigation team on the most recent predation incident at Cheerington academy.
-Samarie is the main suspect in this case due to her weird creepy behavior and being seen around deserted areas of the school at late hours.
-Henryk wants to use his abilities as a chef to create food that tastes just like real meat so that carnivores can enjoy it without hurting anyone.
-Marcoh and his sister are the leaders of a carnivore street gang.
-O'saa has ties to the beastars (which is the role we gave to the F&h gods in this Au) and makes deals with then in order to get info on their dirty laundry.
-August lives on his cabin in the woods, the busy city life it's his vibe.
-Olivia and Tanaka do the same they did in canon, they remain normal.
#help girl i made so many furry jokes over this game that it manifested as a whole au đđđ#may or may not make more art of this depends on my motivation really#fear and hunger#fear and hunger termina#f&h#beastars#au#alternative universe#termina beastars au#hyena scribbles

slight ramble here (mostly because itâs been on my mind A LOT and i just wanna get it off my chest)⊠is it just me or is reader interaction basically⊠nonexistent on tumblr?
i know that for some this is going to come off as vain or bratty, but itâs not meant in that way â itâs rooted entirely in respect and defense of content creators.
long before i was a writer, i was a VERY avid reader. i read fanfic/reader inserts ALL THE TIME. and back in my early days, silent readers werenât much of an issue â there was hella support for creators, whether it be via reblogs, comments or likes.
but now⊠itâs just hard to see it. even in popular fandoms. itâs either no notes, or thousands for only a handful of select creators â which to me is even worse than no one getting interaction.
thatâs absolutely not shade on any of those creators, they deserve the recognition and support (as do all creators!), but it just seems highly unfair to others. it leaves them wondering why their work isnât good enough to get that kind of recognition and support (which is a completely human feeling btw), and even discourages them.
somehow, it feels like fandoms are dying because of this (at least on tumblr.) because the root question is this: why do content creators create content?
obviously, itâs for their content to be seen (not vain, simply human), but also because they want to connect. to build a community with others that are like them, that have the same interests and passions as them, people they can relate to and build bonds with.
but when pretty much no one consumes that content (which, for certain tags that have 29k followers, i highly doubt itâs not being seen) it discourages that creator a lot (again, a very valid and human feeling).
i personally donât feel that itâs selfish to want interaction, or to want connections. i donât think itâs vain or conceited to be proud and happy when something you poured your heart into receives overwhelming support.
but silent readers are killing that for so many. itâs an epidemic that is truly hurting fandoms and creators â itâs literally so simple. if you read something and you really like it, just click that little heart. itâs a minuscule action that may not pack much of a punch to you, but to the creator of that work, itâs everything; kindness is free, and so is liking posts. if you consume the content and enjoy it, isnât it only right to show appreciation/support to the one who created it?
itâs not like youâre donating money, or sacrificing an organ, youâre simply liking something â completely for free. no cost to you at all.
as i said at the start, i know some are going to think of this as bratty, but itâs truly not intended to come off that way. i just strongly feel as though this is a problem, and that creators and fandoms alike are suffering from it. just donât be a silent reader, okay? if you really enjoy something, just give it a like. seriously. itâs not hard.

Megan thee stallion and astrology âïž
Credit: @insertlanasong
(Im in no way blaming dv on where the stars were in the sky. the gremlin and all these other male bullies are accountable for their OWN actions)
*Lilith in 1st: Iâm not gonna stfu about this placement. When I say men are intimidated by us and we donât even have to speak. Megan constantly gets told sheâs acting like a man and trying to play a manâs game for being openly sexual. These same people lust after her all day long. It should be noted how many men online and in the industry seemed to gang up on her for someone nobody gaf about all like that and who had a history of violence. With Lilith in 1st people are waiting for your downfall and you have to be mindful of who is around and why theyâre there. ïżŒ
*her aqua sun sheâs definitely been very giving and sheâs been promoting charities for cancer, I think sheâs trying to open some hospitals, organized a clean the beach event, and advocated for victims of abuse esp black women.
* Megan has a Leo mars and people have compared her performance energy to Beyoncé who also has a Leo mars. I do enjoy this placements ability to put on a show
*Shes a good representative of Taurus rising women as she can go into multiple spaces. Sheâs recently visiting the White House and her classy Venusian energy fit in well.
* megan stated in a live that she canât stay away from Virgos and her ex friend Kelsey was one also Moneybaggyo. She has Virgo in her 5th which could explain her gravitating towards them because of the fun and excitement that house brings.
*Megans bf Pardison has Venus square Lilith (which represents his relationships w women and sheâs Lilith prominent) his mars in her 7th/8th house cusp and hella 10th house synastry. Sheâs known as the hot girl coach and was introduced to the public as looking for a fun time and not taking men seriously. But of course 10th house synastry makes you wanna go to show that person off esp Venus.
*I love Nickis music so barbs pls donât come for me (idgaf) but nicki has been arguing w herself. Sheâs a sag sun and Venus so these placements are likely In Meganâs 8th house. People like to debate what the planet person feels but itâs alot of mutual energy. Megan seemed to be a fan of nicki and they seemed to get along. Then something clearly happened and nicki started throwing shot after shot at Megan since 2021. And to this day *in my tiktok voice* nicki is arguing w herself in the public eye coming after Megan HARD. Iâve had an 8th house stellium with this guy and itâs gone very similar itâs a love-hate until itâs straight up hate after a certain point. Itïżœïżœs been weird to see this considering nicki has never so overtly came after somebody this much esp somebody she co-signed and collabed w. And nicki is a sag Venus (aka a bisexual which Megan is as well) so I wouldnt be suprised if this could be a scorned lover situation.
Torey Lanezâs pluto squared Meganâs sun, moon, and mars. His Lilith conjuncts her sun plus his mars in her 1st house. That man was obsessed w her and he already had a clear anger problem that he admitted to during an interview. My cousin has sun square pluto w her bf and heâs very controlling and insecure when it comes to her.
7th house synastry though very comfortable Can also be be open enemies. For ex: Megan thee stallion after that gremlin shot her you had numerous MEN coming to attack her (Of course with Lilith in 1st) . I would like to name three of them. Drake, Joe Budden, and Dababy all Scorpio placements. Megan is a Taurus rising w unconfirmed degrees but I bet she has 7th house synastry w all of them. Drake has Venus, sun, and mercury in Scorpio. Joe Budden has a Scorpio mars and Dababy has a Scorpio Venus. They all came for her at one the most difficult times of her career just to drag her down even more. Drake and Dababy publically lusted after her and Joe budden was drooling in his seat interviewing her prior to his comments about her. Im a late Aries rising and Iâve had issues w many Scorpio placements because they had some underlying issue w me for no reason. Scorpio In the 7th is very difficult because if our enemies donât know if they wanna harm us or literally f*ck us itâs insane. She even said something similar in a freestyle.
I hope she keeps glowing cause her vulnerability and strength is inspiringđ«¶đŸđ«¶đŸ

Matilda (â96) Headcannons
*picking up where the movie left off : Miss Honey becomes principal of Crunchem Hall, theyâve moved into Magnus Honeyâs old house - Miss Honeyâs childhood home. Matildaâs adoption is finalized.*
Matilda asks if she can change her last name. Miss Honey was the mother that she always wanted. And she never particularly enjoyed being a Wormwood anyway. She had no use for that name. From now on, she shall be called Matilda Honey.
Miss Honey & Matilda have adopted the black cat (the one that trunchbull kicked). His name is Charles. Yes, after Charles Dickens. He is happy and healthy. He gets a gentle pat and kiss on the head from Matilda whenever she leaves the house. And Miss Honey is his favorite cuddle partner.
Miss Honey and Matilda walk to and from school together everyday. Itâs their favorite part of the day. They get to debrief each other and sometimes they play games. Hopscotch or sometimes even racing. And, of course, Miss Honey always enjoys Matildaâs fun facts.
Nightly chocolates after supper! Miss Honey tells Matilda they donât have to, but Matilda insists. Miss Honey is ecstatic that Matilda wants to continue the tradition. Obviously, she always gives Matilda the bigger half.
Picnics and gardening! (Obviously.) Miss honey teaches Matilda to garden. They use the herbs and vegetables for tea and cooking, which they also enjoy together.
Breakfast and tea each morning before school. Usually pancakes, as miss honey quickly learns that itâs Matildaâs favorite. Sometimes Jen picks some blueberries and strawberries to go with it. Matilda loves it!
Hella play dates and sleepovers with her best friends, Lavender and Amanda! On nights that Matilda isnât home, Jennifer curls up on the couch; a book in one hand, petting Charles with the other. His purring is the most soothing sound.
Lissy Doll and Matildaâs rag doll sit on the shelf, right next to each other. Overtime, they develop a system to let each other know where theyâll be using the dolls. But usually they sit next to each other. Sometimes when one of them is home, missing the other, theyâll grab the othersâ respective doll, and hold them for comfort.
Matilda slowly starts calling Miss Honey âMom/mumâ and Jennifer nearly tears up the first couple times it happens. Jennifer asks Matilda if she may call her âTillyâ and Matilda says yes. She also begins to introduce her to people as her daughter. Her brilliant, most wonderful daughter.
Weekends are spent at the library. Mrs Phelps is always happy to see little Matilda. Then she sees Miss Honey, and says, âitâs been a long time, eh Miss Jennifer?â âYes it has, Mrs. Phelps. Itâs good to see you!â
Matilda crafts the most lovely, heartfelt Motherâs Day cards for Miss Honey every May. Jenny treasures them deeply. The first one was a surprise. She didnât imagine Matilda wouldâve actually seen her as her mom. A maternal figure, sure. But sheâd only just adopted the child.
In the same respect, while filing Matildaâs papers, she learns little Tillyâs birthday and organizes a surprise party for her. She invites all of Matildaâs friends from school, and some neighbors. (Even Mrs. Phelps sends in a card and a small book related gift.) Matilda finally gets a proper birthday! She gives Miss Honey the biggest hug when she arrives at the party and realizes what Jenniferâs put on for her. âThank you! Nobodyâs ever done this for me before. Itâs wonderful! Thank you, thank you so much! I love it!â
Matildaâs drawings are proudly displayed up on the fridge. Her favorite is King Magnus & the Bumblebee. As well as the one of her and Matilda, or âMe & mumâ as Matilda calls it.
Jennifer likes to give Matilda her old T-shirts. Matilda loves wearing them. They always smell so lovely. Itâs like getting an endless hug from Miss Honey. Itâs the best feeling in the whole world.
Matilda seldom uses her powers now. When she does, itâs usually to make Miss Honey smile.
Matilda does her schoolwork at the kitchen table while Jennifer does her own work across the table. They take tea breaks often.
Matilda visits Miss Honey in her new office between classes. She has a drawer full of all Matildaâs favorite snacks. Sometimes Lavender and Amanda come to visit too and are always greeted with a hug. âHow are my girls doing today?â She asks. The principalâs office is a happy place. And of course, Miss Honey always greets her students at the front doors each morning.
The first thing Miss Honey does the next day following the forceful impeachment of the Trunch, is bring Death to the Chokey! With the help from a handful of her colleagues and the maintenance man, the pipe is repaired and is as good as new, the rotten smell is gone, and they dispose of the rusty nail riddled door. They make repairs to the rest of the school as well. Miss honey brings all the color and joy thatâs supposed to come with learning and Crunchem Hall becomes a proper childrenâs school.
Whenever she gets the chance, Miss Honey reminds Matilda how grateful she is to have a daughter who is so bright and kind and beautiful. Matilda makes sure Miss Honey knows how grateful she is to have such an amazing, kind, beautiful mother.
One time, when Matilda gets in trouble at school, Jennifer learns that sheâd been trying to tell her teacher about a bully in her class. He was a new student and thought itâd be wise to pick on Bruce, Lavender and herself. Matilda had decided sheâs had enough. When he goes to hit Lavender after she blocks him from grabbing her glasses, Matilda uses her powers on instinct - & the next thing anyone knows, heâs somehow punched himself in the face instead. But the teacher didnât quite see what happened. Miss Honey later tells Matilda, âI know you were trying to do the right thing, sweetheart, but I canât have you hurting your classmates with your powers. Promise you wonât do it again?â âYes maâam.â
One morning, while reading the newspaper, Matilda sees that Trunchbull had been found and arrested and charged with Murder of the first Degree, child abuse and endangerment, along with a few other serious offenses. She immediately runs to show Jennifer, who lets out a sigh of disbelief and then relief. Finally, justice for her father. And her students. She gives Matilda a massive hug.
Miss Jennifer Honey is awarded Best Principal, of one of the top schools in the state. And rightfully so.
Neither of them have been so happy and so proud. Never did Matilda think this was what it would feel like when Miss Honey told her things were going to be different. All was well and right. Everything was perfect. Matilda had never felt so loved in her life. Miss Honey hadnât felt so loved in a very long time.

humble requests for buggy, killer, and robin for marking with their lipstick (i know robin isnt drawn with any but just for fun), hella softcore femdom, and praise (not for killer i know u already did him and i.. go back regularly to read it and get all flustered and coo and adhjsfldkf) thank yoU!!!
Awwwww â„ I'm glad you like it that much. Hm... maybe I'll expand on it for this post. Let's see how it goes.
Buggy and Robin - I think this is firsts for both of them \o/ (Oh wait, I've gotten Buggy once before, first for Robin!)
Also, I apologize, I'm laughing at "hella softcore femdom" - I don't know what to do with that, but I'm going to try my best. I'm assuming the qualifier is there because I tend to go pretty hard core, and you're trying to get me to put the mittens on and tone it down a bit.
We'll do this by character as is becoming the norm, and we'll just go in the order you've listed \o/
Buggy:
Marking w/lipstick - Yes - Buggy likes to give you his "look" in the bedroom - not the big red nose, but the exaggerated lips and the blue lines. There's just something quiet and intimate about it and he refuses to let anyone else see you like that. Generally, in the course of the night, the makeup on the both of you is ruined all to hell. Red and blue smears of paint blotched along skin.
You've even "marked" him more directly before, drawing a couple lazy hearts on his chest with the lipstick one time and he found he really liked it. He told you it was flashy and even left it in place until normal daily life wore it away.
Hella Softcore Femdom - Oh god you don't even know - Buggy can be pushed into being dom, he can even be one on his own, but he's a very stressed clown man. Handing over the proverbial reigns and doing your bidding is a tremendous stress reliever for him. It doesn't even have to be sexual in nature. He'll rub your shoulder, massage your feet, bring you snacks and feed you fruits (and/or let you feed him fruits too.) He even enjoys being made to clean or organize things.
Praise Kink - FUCK Yes - You cannot praise him too much, he cannot praise you too much. Buggy is a affirmative words kind of guy. (He likes having degradation thrown at him, does not like dishing it out). He loves to hear he's doing well, and loves to praise you for taking him so well at the same time. He's very talkative when he's with you - not in the screechy kind of fast-talk he has with other people. It's much calmer than that, maybe a little flashy still.
He'll talk a little less as things progress - once you've both learned what the other likes there'll be less instructions and questions and clarifications, but he'll still be singing your praises, and reveling in you praising him.
Killer:
Marking w/lipstick - FUCK Yes - Killer loves to mark you, and honestly the more temporary those marks are the better. As a general rule at least. The best part is how accurate he is with it. He's put lipstick on your lips without getting any outside of the lines, and he didn't use the lipstick on your lips directly. It was some of the best kissing you'd experienced with him.
By the time all is said and done it's often hard to tell what marks on you are passionate bruises, and which marks are Killer's lipstick. At least until you get cleaned up.
Hella Softcore Femdom - Yes - I don't think you'd ever actually truly dom Killer. Even softcore style. He's delighted to let you fill that role, but there's no point in any of it where you're fully in control. He just doesn't have enough "sub" in him for that sort of interaction. Much like Kid though, he's into pretty much all kinks, from all sides, and he'll happily play at being you're good darlin' without complaint.
Plus it's not bad for him to just relax and let someone call the shots for a little bit. Killer's usually non-stop on in that category. So it's refreshing for him to let someone else take the lead.
Praise Kink - Oh god your don't even know - Killer will praise you and accept your praises. But mostly praise you - how well you take him, how sweet you sound, how beautiful your laughter is, how delicious, and warm, and tight and perfect you are. Killer loves to lavish you with praise. You are his good little one, and he'll make sure you never doubt it. He'll even praise you while he's punishing you - especially if you're accepting your punishment without complaint.
It's also easy to tell that praise effects him positively as well. You can hear his soft moans shiver when you praise him, feel him twitch inside you, the flex in his fingers as he works to control himself. He doesn't really need or want anyone else to tell him he's doing a good job, but something about the way you say it, hits him at his core.
Nico Robin:
Marking w/lipstick - Sure - I think Robin wouldn't have much of an opinion on it until her partner marked her with lipstick. The quiet action of it, the subtle intimacy, the ease with which it can be removed and reapplied. Something about it will click with her and she'll be positive toward it more than neutral.
As a general rule I don't think she's one for marking any more "hardcore" than lipstick. Marks maybe from passionate kissing, but considering her past I don't think she'd want to have a show of ownership over someone. I almost think freedom is more important to her than it is to Luffy.
Hella Softcore Femdom - Oh god you don't even know - This is like, Robin's natural state. It's almost how she is just as a person existing. Everything I can think of to describe it are canonical moments in the show. She just very casually and skillfully moves the crew to her desires, and praises them when things go how she wants. It's almost motherly with, say, Chopper, but there's certainly a dom vibe with the rest of the crew.
It's subtle though - "hella softcore" is a good way to describe it. That said, it's something I see her doing to someone quite easily, but I don't think it goes in the other direction. Subtle as it may (or may not) come across in her relationship, she is most certainly the dominate partner.
Praise Kink - FUCK Yes - Degradation is not Robin's default setting. She's 100% someone that's going to praise you for a job well-done. The hardest part of being her partner is that she'll praise you for cleaning the room in the same cadence and tone that she'll praise you for taking her strap. Or hand. Or with you pleasing her.
There's nothing wrong with it, but when she thanks you for something in front of everyone else in that same tone she used in the bedroom perhaps just moments earlier. Well. To say it has an astounding effect is a bit of an understatement (and I'm certain she does it on purpose too.)
Get your asks in, I'm not taking more after tomorrow.

This week in BL - I am all over the place, But Laws of Attraction is Phenomenal af
July 2023 Wk 2
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) Iâm enjoying most.
Ongoing Series - Thai
Laws of Attraction (Thai Sat iQIYI) 1 of 8 - Icky picked it up but itâs not airing for me until Sundays so I held this post specifically to watch and talk about this show. Stars the pair from To Sir With Love with the same production team. ITâS SO GOOD YâALL. A morally corrupted trickster lawyer with a tragic past, sad eyes, and a beautiful smile that he uses like a weapon. Meets paladin martial arts instructor from other side of the tracks (who is out, at least to his baby sister). Corrupt police. Spoiled rich kid evil. Ambitious politician. Tragic death. Terrible subs.* This show is very like Manner of Death but so far it is a much better/tighter story. Itâs NOT BL but it is fucking phenomenal. And you shoudl watch it. Not wait to binge it. WATCH IT. On a global scale this might be the best thing currently airing featuring gay romantic leads. Its really fucking good. Itâs Lawless Lawyer but more complex character motivation and gay af. Fuck yes please and thank you. FINALLY. Triggers for violence, beatings, death & torture depicted on screen. Like MoD they are not holding back. (* A lot of the familial names they are using are not gendered in Thai but translated as such, like ânephewâ. This one is gonna go down a lot easier if you know some Thai.)
Step By Step (Tues WeTV & Gaga) ep 12fin - 2 years pass and no oneâs hairstyle changes? Srs. Them meeting again = hella AWKWARD. Both still pining & hurt. NO SINGING. The reconciliation scene was great. I enjoyed that on the âdo over relationshipâ they went with phi/pom (instead of the super formal khuns). So cute and so much more relaxed. Also lots of neck kisses! Charming final ep. Itâs only flaw being they dropped the side couple, but I wasnât really into them anyway. Ultimately? This is what Boss & Babe should have been and could we please have Up lead out another BL? I miss him and he only gets prettier. Full review below.
La Pluie (Sat iQIYI) ep 12fin - I adore the tiny little baby GL thread that we almost got. And I wish we had had more of it throughout the show. The side couple turned out to be good too. Emotional crying kisses are my favorite. Sunshine netted himself an earnest serious romantic boy, we likey. As for the main couple? Well... Taiâs search story arc was dull and dragging in a final ep and it felt bloated and slow as a result. It was a good confession reunion with Tai figuring all of his shit out, not surprising but fine. Kind of a a weak final ep. Full review below.Â
Hidden Agenda (Thai Sun GMMTV YouTube) ep 1 of 12 - JoonDunk are back and we have all seen this a million times before, but Thailand never executed a successful formula it didnât want to repeat a million times over, drunk bathroom and everything. Welcome (back) to Thai BL (and back and back and back). Basically they just added glasses, a new 1-shared-brain-cell friendship group, and different uni departments. Ah GMMTV, forever trying to recreate the magic of 2gether. But also Iâm enjoying it. Iâm a simple person. (Hi Jamie! Still in college since 2018 I see.) Anyone else notice that Chinese phrase that they did not translate for us? Mmm hum. Cute. Still... NO SINGING.Â
Low Frequency (Sat iQIYI) ep 2 of 8 -Â Thames is in coma and getting slagged off on the socials. Itâs moving a bit slowly but the premise is interesting despite the poor quality of the execution.Â
Dinosaur Love (Sun iQIYI) ep 3 of 8 eps -Â Major trigger for self harm depicted on screen in part 2/4. I skipped it. Then there is assault and verbal abuse. I told you Ultimate Troop is NOT to be trusted.Â
Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 2 of 12 -Â Look, I donât really mind this show but I also donât like second hand embarrassment and I sense a metric butt ton incoming.
Be My Favorite (Fri YouTube) ep 8 of 12 - I was not best pleased with this episode. Yaâll round the tumblr-sphere seem to be enjoying it but I have officially hit the wall on Kawi. There is not enough booze for me to cope with his shizz. I may be alone in this. But gotta say how I feel... Unlike him. Trash watch here.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Tokyo in April is... AKA Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 5 of 8 -Â Poor Ren, he feels compelled to take on the burden of protecting everyone from sexual assault because he blames himself. And he canât even talk to his boyfriend about it. Oh fuck me the pair of shoes at the door. And neck kisses? TOO MUCH. Argh. Japan. Why must you hurt so good?Â
Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) 3 of 10 eps -Â Itâs a very cute show. All the tropes and archetypes with no fuss or attempts to be clever, just executing them (sometimes over and over again). Even hiccoughs as a result of flirting! I havenât seen that one in ages. The show feels old fashioned as a result. Nostalgic. Iâm good with that.Â
Tie The Not (Pinoy YouTube) ep 6 of 8 - Sad boys still sad now drunk. (Noooooo shoes on bed! Argh.) Finally kisses! Also good ones for a large portion of this ep. Plus hair pulling. And verse rep! And after sex convo. Then side dishes have a whole proper gay ax covo about top/bottom. Everyone say thank you Philippines! get down with your queer selves!Â
Stupid Genius (Vietnam Fri YouTube) ep 6fin -Â I believe this was the final episode. It was cute. This is a standard sort of semi-crappy VBL high school drama. Enjoyable in its floppy friendliness, weirdly like a queer after school special promoting education. Dead fish kisses but fine for what it is. 7/10Â
Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) 2 of 12 eps -Â Activate cohabitation trope. They okay bfs. Minato not as frustrating this week, but still frustrating for me and Shin. Next week = cute outfits and dumb miscommunication yay!
Vian the series (Vietnam YouTube ) ep 11 of 12 - again it didnât show up on my dash in time for this. Iâll pop it into next week.Â
Itâs airing but ...
House of Stars (Thai Mon iQIYI) 12 eps - I bounced at ep 3. Will binge if told it is worth it at end.
Stay (Pinoy YouTube) 7 eps - Itâs mostly English & set in LA (shudder) so Iâm not bothering.
Stay With Me ... NO I WILL NOT! And you canât make me.
Ended This Week
Step By Step Series Review Â
This was Thailandâs answer to The New Employee, and everything I loved about that show I loved about this one. This was an office romance between stern boss and sweet subordinate that felt more authentic to an office environment than previous Thai BLs of this ilk. And that authenticity added tension to the narrative and character development (how novel). Now that might be because it has western source material, or it might be because it is actually kind of old-fashioned (itâs been years since I worked as an office grunt). I also really enjoyed the brothersâ relationship, and kinda wished they hadnât attempted (and failed) to give said brother his own side BL. That one flaw made it a 9/10 for me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
La Pluie Series Review
This BL takes to task the fated mates trope and what it means to have love chained intimately to predestination. Itâs about how faith in destiny before choice diminishes the authenticity of emotion, relationships, and connection. This is a high concept to examine through the lens of a BL. By activating + examining the soulmates trope this show is challenging a foundation of romance: the idea that there is one person meant to be your one romantic partner all your life. This means that we, as viewers, spend much of the show worried about it having a happy ending, and thatâs the source of both its brilliance and tension: would the narrative have the strength to truly challenge its own romantic core? But, ultimately, all this elevated complexity was executed in a somewhat shaky manner with the narrative derailing into some serious pacing issues and characters manipulated by miscommunication. However, with good chemistry and decent acting all around, plus some excellent high heat and representation of consent and a few other rare tropes, this one has to (like itâs sibling show My Ride) earn a 9/10. I enjoyed it even as it made me think, so despite its flaws: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Starting:Â Â
7/19 Wedding Plan (Thai Wed YouTube & iQIYI) Â - It's Mame and she's coming for our GL. She's such a misogynist IMAGINE what we will get with a GL side dish? It's going to be absolute carnage. To crane your neck as you drive by the car wreck or not? That is the question. Me? I'm wallowing in the guts. Trying to decide to trash watch or not...Â
7/20 Jun & Jun (Korea Thu Viki) - From 2022 I CANâT FUCKING WAIT! So excited for this one.Â
2023 forthcoming BL master post (see comments, some are inaccurate, NOT KEPT UPDATED)
THIS WEEKâS BEST MOMENTS
FYI roselle juice is made from hibiscus (a flower) so technically neither a tea nor a juice. (Hidden Agenda)
Tie the Not = all the verse rep this ep. I love this for them.Â
The giggling was SO DAMN CUTE (Step by Step, na?)Â
We all guessed it but it was still fun. (Stupid Genius) Also miracles of miracles, two actors who actually look like they could be brothers play brothers.Â
First time Iâve seen faen translated as significant other. (Laws of Attraction)
THE PAIN! (Tokyo)Â

Heaven In Time
Chapter 1 Chapter 2
Chapter 3: Bleeding Hearts, Angel Voices
Danny Wagner x Sam Kiszka
Summary: The last supper. Or is it?
Tags: Religious trauma, hella guilt tripping/mentions of religious upbringing, internalized homophobia, sliiiiiight slut shaming, sibling fighting, slight sauciness
Words: 10k
A/N: As promised, here's the playlist, as well as the last chapter of this little series. Thank you all so much for being so sweet about it and I'm so happy you liked it!! Tell me all your thoughts!!! OH also, I'm aware that only Catholic priests really wear clerical collars, but I decided to include it because Josh is dramatic and would think it looks cute. Okay enjoy
~~
âThis is it?â
âYup.â
âWow. Somewhere along the way you failed to mention that itâs absolutely gorgeous.â
âItâs practically sinking into the lake, Dan.â
Already crabby, Sam really wanted to be able to trash the house looming in front of them. But for all its ghosts and lonely corners, Sam couldnât write off the fact that his childhood home (and Jakeâs new permanent place of residence, apparently) was and had always been a sight to behold. It wasnât particularly flashy with its modest white paneling having been frayed by weather and stained with mildew, and it certainly wasnât modern by any means. However, with the silver maples conspiring around it and a lakeside view from the bottom of the hill it rested on, the house with all its flaws and farmhouse style charm was enough to make Dannyâs eyes widen.Â
âI didnât know my parents had moved,â Sam noted softly, heart racing as he observed his brothersâ cars in the driveway and wondered where his dadâs station wagon was parked now.Â
âIâm sure Jake will fill you in on everything,â Danny assured Sam as he parked next to Jakeâs crappy Volvo. He cut the engine and studied Samâs apprehensive expression out of the corner of his eye, selfishly hoping that Sam would call the whole thing off and they could drive off towards the loving embrace of Dannyâs own childhood home just beyond the state border. He knew his parents and sister would absolutely adore Sam, but he wasnât sure that Samâs brothers would welcome him as readily.
âOkay,â Sam blurted, smacking his hands against his thighs and letting out a fast exhale. âQuick overview before we go in.â
âRight,â Danny nodded. Honestly, he could use a refresher. It was always a struggle to get Sam to talk about his family like this.
âJosh is the oldest,â Sam started, beginning his list of points by marking them on his fingers. âTechnically. Heâs older than Jake by, like, I donât remember, a couple of minutes. Super friendly, loud as fuck, took up my dadâs pastoral duties after he got deep into the televangelist bullshit that Iâm sure heâs still doing now. He was a natural, of course, given that thereâs nothing he loves more than the sound of his own voice.â
âHarsh.â
âDude, trust me. Youâll get what I mean. Anyways, youâve met Jake. Sort of. Heâs veryâŠpassionate, which youâve seen. Kind of hot headed, very one track minded. He basically runs the whole ministry from the shadows, even when Dad was still pastor. Josh gives the go ahead, but Jakeâs the organizer. Heâs busy 24/7 and has been since they were, like, 12.â
âDoesnât sound very sustainable,â Danny commented. Sam let out a laugh and shook his head.
âIt is not,â Sam agreed bitterly. âBut he likes barking orders and playing puppet master, so I guess it works for him. And, I mean, school and youth group pretty much taught us that there was no other way for us to live other than doing church shit all day every day, so I canât say Iâm surprised he turned out this way.â
âPretty relentless, huh?â
âYup. Especially when your dadâs running aforementioned church and giving you shit for doing anything, I donât know, childlike? Or for just enjoying stuff?â
âDefinitely explains why Jake was such a dick about your cute âfit,â Danny said. âThose values trickle down if you let them, I guess. I still donât think you had to change, by the way.â
âI definitely did,â Sam muttered, looking down at the plain jeans heâd pulled from his suitcase and the thin flannel heâd buttoned over his chest after their backseat tryst. âJosh wouldâve lost his shit. No way heâd go full âOoh, look at me, Iâm a man of God and that means I get to preach with corporal punishmentâ route, but heâd sure as hell think about it if I showed up in those shorts.â
âBaby,â Danny lamented, heart sinking as he watched Sam fiddle with a button while wearing a sullen expression. âWe donât have to do this.â
âI want to,â Sam insisted, reaching for Dannyâs hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze. âFor, you know, closure.â
âOkay,â Danny relented, still hesitant but trusting in Sam to know when enough is enough.
âOkay,â Sam echoed. âOkay. Okay, letâs do this.â
Sam pulled Danny in for a quick kiss of courage, bounced once in his seat, let out a nervous sound and then threw open the door and climbed out. Danny chuckled and got out, locking up the truck and watching with adoration as Sam shuffled towards the peeling front steps.Â
-
âOne second!â
The voice came booming through the rattling front door after Sam had given it a timid knock to the beat of three. Almost instantly, Samâs nerves flared with electrifying panic and he spun to face Danny.
âActually,â Sam declared in a rushed, reedy tone. âFuck this, letâs go.â
âWhat?â
Before Sam could drag Danny down the stairs and bail harder than anyone has ever bailed before, the door swung open with a melodramatic bang and then there was Josh. Danny could immediately see the startling resemblance between him and Jake, but there was something particularly unique about Josh that immediately set him apart. Danny assessed his tidy curls and the clerical collar nestled snugly at the base of his neck and knew it must be these physical differences, but he stood there puzzling nonetheless. Joshâs face was lit up with a plasticine cheer that seemed to be his resting expression, but at the sight of his deserter younger brother turning to him like a deer in the headlights, his face morphed into uncharacteristic shock. Once again, Danny stood in awkward silence as the useless mediator. This time around he had the good sense to step to the side before the situation devolved.
âOh,â Josh said simply, his graceful hands rising to cup at the sides of Samâs face with practiced theatrics. âOh, praise be to God. Sammy. Youâre okay.â
âIâm okay,â Sam repeated, already faltering under Joshâs fiery gaze. âHi.â
âI canât believe it,â Josh breathed, tears glittering in his eyes as he shook his head with wonder. âI just canât even believe itâs really you. It is, right? Or are you some agent of the Lord sent to test my faith in His protection of you?â
âPretty sure Heâs not worried about your faith, Josh,â Sam muttered, grasping Joshâs wrists and lowering them. âIâve been protected just fine. Itâs me, I swear.â
âThank God,â Josh blubbered, throwing his arms around Sam and pulling him into a crushing hug. Despite it all, Sam accepted it gratefully, crossing his arms behind Joshâs back and holding him just as hard. This was the reunion heâd been dreading the most, but his shame was temporarily assuaged in the comfort of his brotherâs embrace.
Danny kept his silence as they hugged, but eventually Josh caught his eye and appeared to register that there was someone on the porch other than Sam for the first time.
âIâm sorry, Iâm being rude,â Josh began after he let Sam go, wiping a tear with the heel of his palm and presenting his other hand to Danny. âI didnât catch your name.â
âDanny,â Danny introduced himself, giving Josh a firm handshake and smiling nervously. Even though so few words had been exchanged, Danny had to admit that it was enough to feel that Joshâs presence could quickly become overwhelming.
âDaniel,â Josh grinned, pleased. âI assure you our home tonight will be no den of lions.â
âOf course,â Danny smiled, completely disbelieving of Joshâs sentiment. âPretty sure that was revealed to me in one of my many visions. âŠThat is what Daniel did in the Bible, right?â
Joshâs laugh erupted out of his chest and he clapped Danny on the arm with an approving grip. Sam shared a look of surprised amusement with Danny, whose shoulders flickered with a shrug as Josh came down from his laughing fit.
âGood man,â Josh wheezed. âAh, thatâs funny. Am I right in assuming youâre Sammyâs companion in the travels Iâm sure heâs had? The travels I simply cannot wait to hear about?â
âCorrect.â
âIâm happy to hear it,â Josh beamed, flashing his wide smile back on Sam. âI knew this would happen, you know. That Heâd send you a guardian angel to watch over you. I prayed for it.â
âIâm truly blessed,â Sam agreed, giving Danny a private, bashful smile while Josh became temporarily distracted by propping open the door.
âThat you are,â Josh professed, gesturing into the house as he crossed the threshold again. âAll of us are, really. Now I donât want to keep you waiting on this drafty old porch, please, come in, come in.â
Josh went in first, flying ahead of Danny and Sam as the door closed behind them and the house swallowed them whole.Â
âHere we go,â Sam whispered, nearly inaudible. Josh guided them, humming and singing under his breath as he reached to graze his fingers against the walls of the hallway lined with crosses of all sizes and finish.
âItâs going good so far,â Danny whispered back. âHe likes me.â
âWait âtil he finds out what kind of guardian angel you are,â Sam murmured. Danny flushed and snaked his arm behind Sam and gave him a pinch on his side, only inches away from the situationally appropriate angel wings messily inked on Samâs lower back.Â
Sam bit back a muffled squeak and smacked Danny in the arm. He was ready to send another flirty whisper his way, but when they emerged in the kitchen, Sam froze up once again at the sight of Jake stationed at the stove. Jakeâs hair had been relieved of its outdated ponytail and skirted over his shoulders in messy waves, swaying with motion as he tended to a pan.
âWhen you said surprise guests, I was certainly not expecting a surprise like this!â Josh cried, shaking Jake by the shoulder. âYou drive me nuts.â
âYou drive me nuts, it seemed only fair,â Jake smiled. âIâm surprised you saw me come home acting the way I was and didnât immediately know Sam had something to do with it.â
Sam let out an offended little exhale from his nose and Jake finally regarded him and Danny, renewed tension stretching between them all as he gave them a curt, impersonal nod.
âYou really came,â Jake noted plainly, gaze lingering on Sam before turning back to the stovetop, pushing sizzling green tomatoes around the skillet.
âYou invited us,â Sam reminded him, cautiously approaching and watching him work. âEnthusiastically, actually. Is this Grandmaâs recipe?â
âYup,â Jake answered flatly, still refusing eye contact as the oil snapped and leaped when he flipped the tomatoes.
âIt smells divine,â Danny piped up. Jake gave him a side eye that Danny honored with a nervous, polite smile, but Jake ultimately shut him down with empty air.Â
âItâs all divine in this house,â Josh followed up dreamily.Â
âWell, hopefully it doesnât taste like âdisappointmentâ,â Jake muttered pettily, bringing up Samâs words from the gas station. Sam sighed and took a step back from Jake, who filled his space by moving from the pan to open the oven, poking noisily at a covered tray.Â
âCome on, Jake,â Sam groaned. âWe come in peace. I donât want to fight with you anymore.â
âAnd I donât want this catfish to char,â Jake countered. âScoot.â
âIâve scooted, thanks,â Sam frowned, taking another step back. âWhy are you acting like weâre showing up uninvited? You literally asked us to come.â
âHey, what has gotten into you two?â Josh interjected, finally absorbing his twinâs clipped tone. âWe should be celebrating. And we have company, so if you could save us all the trouble of picking apart your rude semantics, that would be lovely. I mean, honestly.â
Jake let out a huff and continued working to pull dinner together, plunging the kitchen into icy silence as Sam sneered at the floor to prevent any tears from creeping up on him. Danny wanted nothing more than to hoist him up and carry him out of the house, but he watched helplessly as Josh came over to Sam and gently pulled him out of the room. Â
âYou two can hash it out later, okay?â Josh whispered, and Sam nodded as they crossed the threshold into the wood paneled dining room. The dining table was set with four crisp placemats, all of them centered in the middle of the table under the flowering hands of the chandelier. It was odd for Sam to see, considering heâd never known the table to be set without a placemat at the head of the table for his father.Â
âSorry,â Sam apologized, falling into old habits. âWe ran into Jake at a gas station and it endedâŠweird. You know he can be kind of-â
âSnippy?â Josh finished for him, pulling out a bundle of cutlery from a drawer. âRighteous? Yes, he can be. Lord knows I know. Heâs working on it. Been working on a lot since you left, actually. Some days I swear he out prays me.â
âWhen did Mom and Dad move?â Sam asked, changing the conversation while robotically accepting and laying down silverware as Josh handed it to him.
âTwo months ago,â Josh replied nonchalantly. âTurns out Dadâs broadcast made its way to Nebraska and amassed a following there, so they picked up to be closer to his flock.â
âNebraska?â Sam exclaimed, nearly dropping the bundle of forks in his hand. He swallowed the revelation with a shiver of relief and an equally strong wave of grief, no doubt felt by the lonely little boy he carried inside him. Sam realized with blank shock that there was a very good chance he would never see his parents again.
âSo, what, they just up and left?â
âYeahâŠâ
âFor Nebraska?â
Danny walked in then, unable to withstand Jakeâs angry clanging for another minute.
âWhatâs in Nebraska?â Danny asked innocently.Â
âOur parents,â Josh explained with a weak smile. âI trust Samâs told you about our Dadâs post preaching venture?â
âA little,â Danny lied. Heâd heard plenty about what the Kiszka patriarch had been up to since retiring and passing on the torch of preacher to his oldest son: good olâ American televangelism, complete with the incensed ramblings and an addiction to being on screen. From what he heard from Sam, this came at the cost of quality time with his family. Sam had assured him the blow was softened significantly considering theyâd all been fruitlessly clamoring for his affection for their entire lives and were long accustomed to the scraps theyâd been dealt. Â
âI guess I shouldnât be so surprised,â Sam laughed flatly, shooting Josh a knowing look. âLord knows Dad has the means to afford it.â
âOh, here we go. I donât want to hear your conspiracy theories, Sammy,â Josh replied sternly. âI have faith that every drop of his viewerâs donations go right to the Convention.â
âRight,â Sam muttered. âJust like the college fund did.â
Josh stiffened, bright eyes suddenly cast in shadow as he set a glass down on the table. Dannyâs eyebrows silently rose in curiosity. Heâd never heard mention of college.
âAlways the firecracker, Sammy,â Josh said with a brusque laugh, recovering with shocking speed and slipping his cheerful mask back on with ease. Sam rolled his eyes and carried on doling out glasses and napkins, but Danny found Joshâs abrupt mirth disturbing and studied him from where he leaned in the doorway. Danny had felt quite certain in his assessment of Jake when theyâd met, but with Josh, he couldnât quite pin what it was about him that kept Dannyâs attention.
-
Dinner had gone off without a hitch, much to the surprise of everyone at the table. There was a bit of a rough start when a chilly direction from Jake had Danny positioned at the seat farthest from Sam, one that also conveniently faced the portrait of Jesus on the wall. But after theyâd all sat down, Josh had led them in a tearful round of grace praising Samâs safe return and then insisted on hearing every single detail of their cross country journey. Knowing that âevery single detailâ would send both his siblings into cardiac arrest, Sam had regaled them with only the most entertaining stories. Danny felt his heart swelling in his chest watching Sam settle into his natural element, rolling his wrists in the air and grinning like a madman as he detailed engine mishaps and eccentric motel squatters. The biggest surprise of all was Jake slowly warming up as the conversation rolled along, never contributing more than a few words at a time but eventually offering up the smallest of smiles and persistent eye contact as his little brother rambled away.
âI just canât believe it,â Josh noted brightly at the tail end of one of Samâs stories. âYouâre so bold now, Sams. I remember when you were such a little scaredy cat too scared to get the communion wafers from the back room by yourself. Now youâre out there roughing the wilderness and pushing cows off the road.â
âTrying to push cows off the road,â Daniel corrected with a smile, remembering how hard heâd laughed watching Sam push with all his might against a cow where its herd had blocked the road somewhere in Texas. âEmphasis on trying.â
âI pushed that big one with the brown spot!â Sam argued. âYou saw! He went running!â
âHe felt bad for you, Sammy.â
Jake let out a snort that set them all off into their own fits of laughter, save for Sam who open mouth scoffed and mouthed threats to Danny across the table. Despite his faint indignation at Danny poking fun at him, Sam felt a great rush at the light hearted mood that had settled over the room. For a split second, he thought of a world where they could eat dinner like this on a regular basis, but he held himself back from indulging in that hope and laid it to rest in a far corner of his mind as quickly as it had risen.
Sam found it to be a wise choice when the laughter died down and Josh, completely unknowingly, killed the mood.
âIs it a hassle to find churches near motels?â Josh asked with sincere interest. âOr is it nice to settle for one day a week when youâre always driving around all willy-nilly?â
Jake let out another snort and Sam and Danny made awkward eye contact across the table.
âThey donât go to church, Josh,â Jake answered for his brother. Josh blinked and Sam bowed his head, suddenly very interested in tearing at the seedy heart of the tomato at the end of his fork.
âI suppose we can be few and far between,â Josh nodded. âI donât think itâd hurt to peek in on a general Christian service, though. Itâd do the job if the Baptist radio stations donât reach wherever you end up.â
âThey donât want to go to church, Josh,â Jake continued. Sam kicked him under the table and Jake shot him a snotty look, raising his eyebrows haughtily as Josh turned to Sam.
âIs that true?â Josh asked, sounding a little hurt.Â
âDid nobody here read the note I left?â Sam mumbled childishly, keeping his eyes down as Josh sputtered and looked between him and Danny. Danny couldnât muster anything more than an embarrassed cough, also looking down but keeping his eyes firmly glued to Sam.
âI did, about a thousand times,â Josh insisted, shifting his entire chair to face Sam. âBut I figured youâd, you knowâŠwell, maybe I donât know.â
âI bet thereâs a lot we donât know,â Jake added, kicking back when Sam kicked him again.Â
âWhat are you, 12? Stop it,â Josh snapped, adding his own kicking leg to the fray. âAnd what is that supposed to mean?â
âYou shouldâve seen what he was wearing when I saw him,â Jake said conspiratorially.
âJake, shut up!â Sam hissed. âYouâre so fucking prissy.â
âWoah, language!â Josh scolded, throwing his hands up. âEverybody take a brea-â
âHe was practically naked. From where I was, I actually thought he was a girl.â
âOkay, Jake, give it a rest,â Danny snapped, anger finally giving him the courage to speak up.
âIâll âgive it a restâ when you stop necking my brother in broad daylight, how about that, Florida?â Jake snarled, tossing his fork on the table with a furious clatter and crossing his arms. Dannyâs mouth clamped shut at the same time Joshâs fell open. Sam let out a strained howl, staring daggers through his brotherâs skull as Jake sent them right back.
âGod, Jake, youâre so, so,â Sam stammered, insults piling in his mouth. âYouâre so fucking jealous!â
Jake didnât reply, but his eyes fluttered from the sting of Samâs words. Sam had hit a nerve with sharp precision and they both knew it.
âWhat on Godâs green earth is Jake talking about?â Josh asked, eyes glued to Danny where he wilted in his chair. Danny drew in a breath like he was about to answer, but they all found that the silence he gave instead was just as clear as if heâd spoken.Â
âSam?â Josh asked, a little desperate. For some reason, he didnât sound as deeply disappointed as Sam had imagined, and certainly not as mad as heâd feared.Â
âI hate you,â Sam whispered across the table to Jake, ignoring his other brother searching his face for something heâd missed entirely. âI said I didnât want to fight.â
âAre we fighting, or am I just saying things that are objectively true?â Jake countered with eerie calm. âYou donât go to church. You dress like a girl. Youâre screwing a total stranger. Anything else youâd like to add? Is he paying you, perhaps?â
Samâs chair scraped loudly as he got to his feet and sent it banging against the wall. He crumpled up his napkin and threw it in Jakeâs face before storming out of the dining room, leaving behind another frustrated cry that was cut off by the metallic clang of the front door. Josh turned to Jake with his own expression of genuine anger.Â
âDo you want him to leave again?â Josh growled, glaring him down before casting his eyes on Danny. âDaniel, I am so sorry. Please, forgive us.â
Jakeâs face grew cloudy and sullen at Joshâs fury, clueing Danny into whose opinion he must value most in this world. He sank further in his chair when Josh breezed past him and followed Samâs warpath out of the home, leaving Jake and Danny to sit side by side in their private rages after the door had slammed for a second time.
-
They sat there for a very long time. Danny wanted to run to Sam (he was always running to Sam, and he thought maybe he always had been) but knew that Sam needed Josh more than him. As much as he was not enjoying this trend of being left alone with Jake, he sat with the storm cloud beside him and did his best to steal glances and collect information without Jakeâs knowledge. When theyâd first encountered him, Jake had seemed so eager to fly Sam back home to the nest. Heâd seemed almost understanding, or as understanding as someone like him could be, but itâd spun out within seconds. Danny was trying to figure out the exact moment that had turned him into a cold shouldered teenager so desperate to cut Sam down.Â
When slyly sliding his eyes to try and gauge Jakeâs expression, Danny startled slightly to find that Jakeâs focus had shifted from the wall to him. When he followed the low trajectory of his tired gaze, Danny saw that Jake was staring atâŠDannyâs scuffed cowboy boots. From the looks of it, he was tracing the stitchings in the brown leather. Lost in a daydream, maybe? Danny considered with a note of private amusement that Jake might be looking at his boots and tucking himself into a fantasy of cowboys and fast horses. Maybe that was something he and Danny both did; escaping into an idealized reality when the one at hand was too much.Â
Then, with a jolt, it clicked. The way Jake had grown cruel when Sam had defended his new look and new life, no doubt shattering Jakeâs pre established perception of his baby brother. Inviting him to dinner and cooking what Danny knew were some of Samâs favorite foods, only to spoil it all with appetite stealing jabs. How he had shrank under Joshâs disappointment. How he sat now, staring at Dannyâs boots like he wished they were his.Â
Like he wished he could run.
âIâm sorry, Jake,â Danny blurted. Jake jerked at the sudden sound and regarded Danny with wide, confused eyes. He blinked once before his face crumpled, perplexed.
âFor what?â Jake asked, all bite gone from his voice. He sounded almost friendly. He sounded a little like Sam, actually. Danny used that familiarity to gather his confidence.
âIâm sorry Sam didnât invite you to go with him. That mustâve really hurt.â
Jakeâs expression held its dumbfounded composure but Danny could see the emotion shift from confusion to something akin to being completely crushed. He barely blinked and Danny watched his eyes fill with tears.
âDonât be ridiculous,â Jake hissed, his voice wobbling slightly as his lip curled in feigned disgust. âYou two are going to die out there, one way or another.â
âYou must be a masochist, then,â Danny accused, continuing to find his nerve. âBecause Iâm willing to bet that Sam wasnât too far off when he said you were jealous. Iâm really not trying to be rude, Iâm just trying to understand.â
âUnderstand what? Why I hate your guts?â
âYou donât hate my guts, Jake. And I sure as shit donât hate yours.â
âCouldâve fooled me. You didnât even give me a chance.â
Ah. There was another puzzle piece clicking in place for Danny.
âThatâs another thing Iâm sorry about,â Danny said honestly. âI shouldnât have shut you down like that. Itâs just - and this isnât an excuse, itâs just an explanation- itâs just that Iâve spent the past year trying to get Sam as far away from what he was running from. And, well, youâre a part of all that in one way or another. But I shouldâve understood your circumstances the same way I do Sam.â
Jake was quiet for another beat, swallowing and sniffling before letting out a sigh.
âI guess I shouldnât have shut you down like that either,â Jake admitted. âAnd I guess I should thank you for keeping him safe and, well, alive. Itâs just so weird to see Sam like this. Heâs soâŠâ
Jakeâs lip trembled in a particularly Sam fashion and his eyes drifted off into space as tears began to roll down his ruddy cheeks.
âHeâs so happy,â Jake breathed, in awe. âHe was right, he was never happy here. I pushed him too hard. Josh was too wrapped up in his own crises. Our parents never gave him a second glance. And now heâs so free. He got out. You two have done so much and gone so far that it just makes everything at home feel even smaller. I guess I didnât realize until I saw him again that there was something to âget outâ of.â
âItâs okay,â Danny whispered, reaching out and putting a hand on Jakeâs arm. âHey, breathe, itâs okay.â
âItâs not,â Jake wailed, fully swept up in his hysteria now. âItâs not okay. This is supposed to be a place people flock to, not run from. And, shit, if it was so bad that he had to run, youâd think heâd have the decency to at least tell me and Josh. Youâd think heâd ask if...â
Danny thought heâd be more distressed watching Jake completely spin out, but he was actually pretty calm. He supposed this was par for the course in a place like this. Another holy man laid to waste by a betrayal. Another brother struck down by his brother, laying still while the other wandered. In some twisted way, there was something divine here, but not in the way that any of them wanted. Danny suddenly felt even closer to Sam, and he shivered a little with the understanding and satisfaction of it despite the gaunt atmosphere over the entire estate. He kept a steady hand on Jakeâs arm when he crossed his arms on the table and buried his face shamefully, the lean crest of his back shivering with an unruly sob.Â
âYou should go, Jake,â Danny whispered. âI mean, you should leave, too. You canât be happy here.â
âThatâs not an option for me,â Jake laughed, his face still hidden by his periwinkle sleeves. âThereâs too much here for me to leave behind.â
âJosh?â
âJosh,â Jake repeated, voice wobbling. âAlways gonna be Josh. As much as Iâd love to have a week to myself without having to set up a million church activities or food drives or buying a trunkful of candles, I know he canât handle the responsibility all on his own. Itâs just easier if I do it so he can focus on writing sermons and doing confessions.â
âWhat happened to having faith in each other?â
âHe doesnât want to handle the responsibility on his own,â Jake corrected. âThatâs another thing. In all honesty, I always thought if any of us were going to make it out of here, itâd be him.â
âReally?â Danny asked. From what heâd heard, Josh was more than happy with a microphone in his hand and adoring congregants standing at the ready to harmonize with his gospels.Â
Jake calmed slightly, resurfacing from his arms to rest his chin and catch his breath. His round face was still flushed with emotion and Danny resisted a very genuine urge to brush his hair back from where it lay lingering on his cheeks, kept there by stray tears.Â
âJoshâŠâ Jake trailed off, his gaze finding comfort counting the slats in the blinds. âJosh struggles. I mean, we all do, but heâŠI donât know. He doesnât tell me much. I just know something keeps him convinced that heâs not worthy of being the pastor. Which is ridiculous, in my opinion.â
âReally,â Danny repeated, slightly more somber as he thought back to his first impressions of Josh and the immediate recognition whose source alluded him. It came to him in a wave, then, along with the fond ache of understanding.
âNo one is more deserving,â Jake continued. âThereâs no one as kind or as devoted as him. I think itâs just the church, well, the Convention, really, that has certain ideas that make him feelâŠunworthy, maybe. Thereâs an expectation he thinks he doesnât live up to.â
âHeâs..?â Danny trailed off, testing the waters cautiously in case the conclusion heâd jumped to was entirely wrong.Â
âHeâs my brother,â Jake said firmly, finally looking Danny head on. âAnd my best friend. Thatâs all that matters to me.â
Danny sat back in his chair, a long held breath (of relief?) escaping his chest as his understanding of Jake finally crystallized. He wasnât really a sharp tongued, verse slinging Bible thumper with a million little hills to die on. Jake was a man who was first and foremost devoted to his family, and he was willing to forego all of his wants for their needs. He was a brother, and he feared for how the world would treat his brothers, both inside and outside his little world. And at the end of it, heâd withstand feeling forgotten if it meant they felt seen. He had never been angry, not really. Just hurt.
âYouâre a good brother, Jake,â Danny insisted, flashing Jake a smile. âYou and Sam should have a chat before the night is through. And I still believe you should think about leaving. Both you and Josh, actually. Thereâs a lot of world youâd really like to see. Obviously itâs not my place to tell you what to do, but I do think itâd help.â
âYouâre probably right,â Jake agreed. âAnd thank you. Sorry for, you know, everything.â
âItâs no problem,â Danny said genuinely. âIâm happy to help.â
âYou are, arenât you?â Jake laughed. âIâm surprised youâve stuck around this long, honestly. Especially since youâre not religious. But I guess if youâve put up with Sam for a year and not jumped overboard, you must be accustomed to some nonsense.â
âI donât âput upâ with him,â Danny asserted. âItâs a privilege to get to spend so much time with him.â
Jake watched him with an arched, amused eyebrow, finally straightening in his chair to smooth his hair back and settle with his arms crossed.Â
âSo, what, Iâm gonna wind up being your brother, too?â
âI meanâŠin a way,â Danny laughed, heart racing. âIf you donât mind.â
âI donât mind,â Jake answered, shaking his head slightly. âI figured. I mean, after he hit 21 and had no dating prospects or interest in dating at all, I assumed he was gonna forgo it completely. I just guessed he was more interested in his commitment to the church, like Josh.â
âSeems they both had their reasons to stay away from girls,â Danny noted.
âI suppose they did,â Jake said with a light laugh. âAnd still do. But, wow, Sam really does light up around you. Iâve never seen that with him.â
Danny smiled, blushing with warmth again as he tried to recall Samâs expression when he was around. Heâd always been smiley and wide eyed when looking at Danny, complete with pupils blown wide and overtaking the honey brown of his iris while he mapped Dannyâs face. Wasnât that how heâd been before they met? Apparently not.Â
âYouâve got good intentions?â Jake interrogated, nudging Dannyâs knee with his own. âYou treat him right?â
âI do, I do,â Danny insisted, crossing his own arms and grinning. âI sure try. Heâs easy to love.â
âYou love him?â
âIâŠyeah, I do,â Danny affirmed, certain of his answer. âI didnât even mean to say it like that, but, yeah. Is that alright?â
âYeah, itâs alright,â Jake smiled, yet slightly subdued. âJustâŠbe careful, okay? At least as long as youâre in Alabama. Especially in Shady Grove.â
âI know,â Danny said softly, a little more morose. âSam warned me about that. Another reason he left.â
âAnother reason we should go,â Jake replied reluctantly. âRight?â
âRight. Believe me, nowhere is going to be perfect, but I think youâll like the version of Josh youâll meet when he can be himself. Iâve loved watching Sam come out of his shell.â
âI wish I couldâve been there for that,â Jake whispered, choking up again. âHeâs probably out there right now telling Josh how much he hates me.â
âDonât say that.â
-
âI fucking hate him.â
âSam.â
Sam had bolted the second he was out the front door, but Josh had known where to find him. Ever since Sam had been young enough to start throwing the tantrums that had made him so intolerable to their parents, he always fled to the dock at the bottom of the hill. Ever the mediator, Josh had spent his fair share of time on the rotting wood planks listening to Sam vent his frustrations as they plunged sticks and rocks into the murky water, eventually advising him with echoes of affirmations heâd heard from the mouths of older congregants. But they were adults now, and as Josh sat on the dock with Sam curled into his side, he realized with a faint panic that there were no more words to borrow but his own.Â
âI do,â Sam insisted, his head resting on Joshâs shoulder as he glared out over the blurred surface of the small lake. âI really do. Iâm done with him.â
âNo, youâre not,â Josh sighed, throwing an arm around Samâs shoulder and rubbing his arm.Â
âWhatever,â Sam grumbled. âI want to be.â
âYou donât have any kind of hate in your soul, Sam,â Josh told him. âGod takes it from you and leaves you even more kind and enduring.â
âJosh, stop,â Sam whispered, sending an embarrassed thorn right into Joshâs side.Â
âStop what?â
âThe God stuff. Please. Just, not now, at least.â
âThe âGod stuffâ used to make you feel better.â
âNo, it didnât. I just didnât say anything.â
They sat without speaking for a minute. Without their voices, the rushing rain sounds of the mayflies and the hush of the surrounding trees filled the void between them.Â
âYou couldâve said something,â Josh murmured. âEspecially if it wouldâve stopped you leaving.â
âIt wouldnât have,â Sam answered. âIâve thought about it a lot. I think I wouldâve left no matter what happened.â
âOh,â Josh said, sounding small. âDid you know that before you left?â
âTo some degree.â
â...I wouldâve liked to know that, too, Sammy.â
Sam swallowed a guilty lump in his throat and sulked further against his brother.Â
âSorry,â Sam whispered. âIt was selfish. Itâs justâŠI was scared if I told you, youâd tell Jake, and then heâd tell Dad, and then youâd all hatch some master plan to keep me here.â
âI suppose thatâs not an unfounded fear,â Josh admitted. âRemember when Jake had his little Sunday school girlfriend? I didnât see him for, like, three days after Dad got wind of it.â
âExactly. And then you wouldâve written up some elaborate, guilt trippy sermon and sat me down in the kitchen and made me talk about my feelings for 2 hours minimum.â
Josh laughed a little, drawing a knee to his chest against a cool breeze that rolled off the lake.
âIâm pretty predictable, huh? Goodness.â
âAnd that wouldnât have worked because if I talked about my feelingsâŠâ
âWhat?â
â...â
âWhat, you wouldnât want to hear my feelings about the whole thing?â
âWell, yeah, but itâs too late for that now. And thatâs not-â
âI havenât even told you how I felt,â Josh pointed out.Â
âI know how you felt,â Sam murmured, tears searing his waterline again. âMaybe itâs you and Jake with your creepy twin telepathy, but I felt you both the whole time, even all the way out in California. Itâs horrible. Some days I couldnât even enjoy myself because I could feel the disappointment two thousand miles away.â
Josh felt tears of his own threatening to spill over hearing that. It had never occurred to him that a lifetime of observing at the sidelines wouldâve made Sam so accurately attuned to his familyâs emotional patterns.
âSammy,â Josh exhaled. âIt pains me to listen to this. You donât have to feel so guilty about everything.â
âNeither do you.â
Josh bristled slightly, lifting his cheek from Samâs hair and looking down at him.
âWhat do you mean?â Josh asked gently.Â
âI know you didnât want to be pastor.âÂ
âWell, I love it now.â
Sam pulled away from Josh and crossed his legs under him, staring out over the water before staring Josh in the eye with a look so sincere and cutting that it made Josh lean back slightly.
âItâs okay if you donât, you know,â Sam said evenly. âItâs okay if youâre upset.â
âWhat do I have to be upset about?â Josh teased, pushing Samâs bony shoulder. âI live in this beautiful little town and get to spend my days with its beautiful little people talking about what I love. Plus I just got my baby brother back. Iâd be a fool to complain.â
âOh, for fuckâs sake, Josh, cut it out,â Sam snapped, grief fizzling into frustration. âYou sound like Dad at his worst. Why canât you just drop the act for 2 seconds and admit you hate it here?â
Joshâs eyebrows flew up and he let out a reflexive laugh, anxiety coloring his tone as it fluttered cautiously out of him. Sam looked at him pleadingly, grabbing his brother's hand and gripping it tight.
âI know you didnât want to be pastor,â Sam repeated firmly. âI know you wanted to go to college. And IâŠI know youâre gay.â
Josh immediately froze, falling silent as Sam stared into his eyes and what felt like his soul.Â
âAnd thatâs great,â Sam continued on, a tear escaping his eye and rolling down his cheek. âIt can feel amazing if youâd just let yourself feel anything. Trust me, I know. Youâre not trapped here, dude. You can still go to school and be yourself and be happy. You just have to put yourself first for the first time in your fucking life.âÂ
Josh, struck dumb, couldnât do anything but breathe as his heart burned in his chest and pushed up hot tears that blurred his vision of his brother. His brother, who was undressing his façade with effortless impatience that made Josh begin to wonder just how transparent he truly was. Or was it only Sam, who was part of him in so many ways, that could see how blind Josh was? When he spoke in dizzying circles of hell and damnation, were his congregants shaking their heads in pity with the knowledge that all Josh was really doing was scaring himself back into submission?
âIf youâre really okay with how your life is turning out, tell me now and we can never talk about it again,â Sam promised. âI swear to God. I will leave it alone.â
Josh hesitated further, pulling his hand from Samâs and letting out a slow breath. Looking down at the cloudy water swaying underneath them, he wondered how big of an inhale of it would take for him to sink right to the bottom.Â
âYouâre right,â Josh confessed, his voice as soft and as uncertain as Sam had ever heard him. âI didnât want any of this. Itâs too much pressure. And the more I read the Bible and listen to the sermons from out in Texas and GeorgiaâŠthe more I lose faith in what Iâm supposed to be telling people.â
âYeah,â Sam whispered, finding respite in Joshâs honesty. âI never really believed we were all born sinners.â
âI still kind of do,â Josh admitted. âBut now Iâm thinking thereâs no amount of trying thatâll change that. I do all of this praying and writing and confession but Iâm stillâŠâ
âItâs not sin, Josh. How you feel, how we both feel. Thereâs nothing to be saved from when it comes to that,â Sam insisted with quiet urging. âSeriously.â
âMaybe,â Josh whispered, picking at the skin around his nails as a dark coil of shame slithered in his stomach. âIt just isnât natur-â
âItâs like this,â Sam started, trying to put something into terms that would get through to him. âGod is everyone and everything. Maybe thatâs something I still agree with. And when you stop dedicating yourself to trying to get him to pay attention to you, you start to see Him or whatever âHeâ really is everywhere. You realize that youâre honoring Him by honoring yourself and doing what feels right to you. I donât know if thatâs something weâll get rewarded for in heaven, but the reward of it on Earth is enough for me.â
ââDo not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing itâ,â Josh recited with a nod. âHebrews.â
âSure. Yeah, actually, yeah. What Iâm trying to say is you should live for yourself, Josh, not God or Dad or anyone. And if you still want God, youâll find that without even trying.â
âDid you find Him with Danny?â Josh asked quietly. âIn Texas?â
Sam blinked in surprise. Heâd never thought about it like that, butâŠ
âI guess I did,â Sam breathed, a smile drifting onto his face as he thought fondly of Danny. âAt the start, at least. Now itâs all just him, no capital H.â
Everything was Danny to him, in complete honesty. Even though Sam only half believed the whole speech he was giving to Josh, he couldnât deny the divinity he felt in the presence of his boyfriend. His best friend.
âI want that,â Josh murmured. His throat closed with emotion as he forced the words out, but it felt good to say. He couldnât remember the last time heâd expressed wanting out loud, and based on the look on Samâs face, he realized it may have never happened before.
âGo get it,â Sam said fiercely, his grin growing wildly when Joshâs eyes lit up a little at his encouragement. âYou wanna come to Florida with us? We can find you a nice, alligator hunting boy.â
âSlow down, slow down,â Josh laughed, holding up his palms in surrender. âOne step at a time.â
âJust Florida, then. Weâll ask Danny.â
As if summoned, there grew the sound of hushed voices and the sound of shoes on the wooden steps down to the deck, bodies hidden by the trees and the dark. Eventually they emerged, Jake hopping down from the last step that had been laid too high, bending at the knee from the impact as long legged Danny casually stepped down beside him. Sam and Josh turned to face them, leaning back on their hands and giving little waves. Without any words, they all knew the nightâs battle had blown over, and Sam reached for Jake as he sat down between him and Josh. Jake received him with a hug, both of them bent into each other awkwardly as they murmured brief apologies to the other. Josh, unable to stay out of anything ever, leaned into their embrace and struggled to wrap his arms around both of them. Danny laughed as he settled next to Sam, their knees bumping as Sam attempted to wiggle out from the hold Josh had joyfully trapped them in.
âIâm just so grateful,â Josh wailed with phony passion. âI love my family!â
âYouâd hug Mom and Dad like this?â Jake asked incredulously.
â...I love my brothers!â
All 4 of them laughed again as Josh finally released them, immediately proceeding to chastise Jake in a low voice as he fiddled with the frizz his hair had accumulated. Sam teetered backwards and landed with his back to Dannyâs chest. Danny took advantage of the twins getting distracted and planted a kiss on top of Samâs hair, letting his eyes flutter shut for a moment at the consolation of Sam back in his arms after the whirlwind day theyâd had.
âAll good?â Danny whispered in Samâs ear, smiling when Sam nodded and tilted his head to grin up at him.
âYou?â Sam asked, humming when Danny mimicked his own nod back to him.
âJake said we can stay the night in your old bedroom,â Danny informed him, repeating what Jake had said in the conversation on their way out of the house. âBut he wonât make us breakfast.â
âFuckinâ liar, he will,â Sam laughed, reaching a hand up and lovingly stroking Dannyâs cheek as he utilized his other hand to smack Jakeâs thigh. âWhatâs this about no breakfast? You want me to burn the place down trying to make toast?â
âIâm just not babying you anymore is all,â Jake announced, smacking Sam right back. âDanny agrees itâll be good for our relationship.â
âTraitor,â Sam complained, smacking Danny on the cheek and squealing when Danny scoffed and smacked him back. Jake let out a brash cackle and Josh a defeated groan.
âYouâre like the Three Stooges,â Josh whined. âAlso, coming from you, Sam? Thatâs a bold accusation.â
âWow!â
âLook whoâs finally growing some balls,â Jake continued to cackle, hooking his elbow around Joshâs neck and pulling him into a side hug.Â
âThe state of my balls are none of your concern,â Josh muttered, which made Sam and Jake let out identical barks of laughter. The three of them got whipped up into a frenzy of bickering and Danny watched with a grin and a bloom of warmth flowering in his chest at the sight. There was something being healed here, he thought, and he could almost see the misguided little boys theyâd once been as they tussled and giggled on the groaning dock.
It was strange to think how differently he had felt just a few hours ago. With Sam in Dannyâs life, it seemed like things changing at the drop of a hat was something that Danny was going to grow well accustomed to as long as he was around. After that night, even with Sam squirming out of his grasp to try and push his brothers into the lake, Danny knew with complete certainty that he wanted Sam to stick around forever. It was time he told him that.
-
âHow was your shower?â
âArctic.â
Danny laughed and opened up the wing of the sheets and comforters to welcome in Sam, who came rolling in with his hair still wet. He was clad in linen pajamas from his teenage years that fell slightly too short on his wrists and ankles, while Danny lay under the blankets in only his boxers and socks. Even though Samâs skin and hair was freezing cold from the shower and dampened his own skin, Danny pulled Sam against him and struggled with the blankets to bundle them together as best as he could.Â
âThere, now weâre a proper burrito,â Danny smiled, kissing the tip of Samâs nose.
âIâve never had a burrito,â Sam whispered in a hushed, secretive voice. Danny gasped.
âYouâre joking.â
âIâm not!â
âWell, that's okay, we'll remedy that. Plus, theyâre not half as good as this,â Danny mumbled, using his grip on Samâs back to pull him further into his bare chest and tuck Samâs head into the crook of his neck. âWas the water really that cold?â
âSub-zero,â Sam promised with a shiver. âThose assholes hogged all the hot water, I bet. Typical.âÂ
âIâll warm you up plenty,â Danny purred, sliding his hand up Samâs shirt and tracing his fingers along his cool skin with featherlight touch. Sam shivered again and giggled, nuzzling deeper into Dannyâs neck.
âNot in my childhood bed you wonât, pervert,â Sam murmured against Dannyâs skin, which seemed to be radiating great waves of heat like he were a human furnace.Â
Said childhood bed had been a source of poorly hidden smiles from Danny, who finally admitted through a smothered laugh that the entire room looked like his grandmaâs room back in Florida. No doubt done up and never redecorated for the daughter his mother had been expecting and never received, the wallpaper was pale, flowery and hung with silver crosses. Picture frames held stitched psalms that sat cheerfully on the vanity facing the bed. The double bed barely fit the both of them and, as Sam admitted through laughs of his own, the sheets and comforters that surrounded them now did, at one time, belong to his granny. When theyâd first walked in, Sam had felt the loving ache of being remembered upon finding that the bed had been made and the room had been tidied for his return.
âHow about some sleep, then?â Danny offered. âWeâve had a long day.â
âNo kidding,â Sam quietly agreed. âIâm glad what happened did happen, shockingly enough. I really thought it was going to be a trainwreck. I shouldâve had more faith in them, I guess.â
âYouâve got just the right amount of faith,â Danny hummed, eyes drifting open and shut as he grew sleepy from the perfume of Samâs shampoo and his natural sweetness. âIâm really proud of you, baby. I know that was a lot for you. Youâre a tough cookie.â
âIâm your tough cookie,â Sam murmured, tickling Dannyâs neck with his nose and planting a lingering kiss on the pulse thrumming violently under his lips. Danny let out a breathy groan and gently dug his fingers into Samâs back as Sam mapped a sleepy path of kisses along Dannyâs neck.
âEasy, cookie,â Danny raggedly chuckled, smoothing his palm up and down Samâs back as he fought in vain to stave off the growing pressure in his boxers. âI thought being in this bed was a no go.â
âIt is,â Sam doubled down, lips dragging against Dannyâs skin as he whispered. âJust saying thank you real quick.â
âYou and your fuckinâ âthank youââs,â Danny smiled, eyelids fluttering fully shut as he tilted his head back and gave Sam more area to cover. âThis is like that first night all over again.â
âI was so embarrassed,â Sam giggled, his breath fanning out in warm bursts over the thin layer of saliva cooling on Dannyâs skin. âI thought Iâd gone and fucked up the best thing that ever happened to me.â
âSweetheart,â Danny cooed, butterflies fluttering in his stomach. âYouâre the best thing that ever happened to me.â
âNo, Iâm not,â Sam refused, pressing his cheek into the hollow of Dannyâs collarbone.
âYes, you absolutely are, my little California love.â
âEven after today?â Sam asked, sounding more uncertain than he wanted to. âI canât think of a single other person on Earth who couldâve sat through all of that bullshit and still liked me at the end of it. Like, I really canât apologize enough. Especially for Jakeâs crazy ass.â
âEspecially after today,â Danny insisted. Sam lifted his head from Dannyâs chest and looked up at him with an unconvinced sneer, their noses brushing as Danny raked his fingers through Samâs damp waves and searched for the fortitude to say what he felt. These were the moments where Danny felt it the strongest; Sam burrowed into him with his eyes as wide and wondering as the day theyâd met. This was what love was to him.
âSam,â Danny whispered sincerely, voice low and breathless. âIf it meant I got to keep you by my side for 10 extra minutes, Iâd live today over and over again. Do you understand? There is nothing you could put me through that I wouldnât stick around for. Not when Iâm this ridiculously in love with you.â
Samâs already wide eyes nearly bugged out of their sockets at that, pupils expanding slowly as a nervous smile wound its way onto his flushed face. Danny smiled at him, feeling a flush of his own beginning to heat his body from his heart outwards.Â
âYouâre what?â Sam asked, leaning back slightly to look at Danny properly.Â
âYou heard me,â Danny teased, pinching the rosy apple of Samâs cheek. âWhat do you think about that?â
âI think youâre crazy,â Sam laughed, shimmying in their cocoon of blankets and limbs to readjust his arms to wrap around Dannyâs neck. âAnd may have been dropped on your head as a baby.â
âHow did you know that?â
âItâs the only rational explanation as to why youâd go and say that,â Sam flouted breezily.Â
âIs it really so hard to believe?â Danny asked, making a pitiful face that made Samâs heart flutter. âYou make it very easy to be in love with you, as a matter of fact. I donât have to try at all.â
âI love you,â Sam murmured, in awe. Itâs not like he was stupid, he knew Danny had to have loved him for them to have gotten as far as they had, but it still felt entirely unexpected to actually hear it. After a year of being startled awake by Samâs sleep talking, patiently listening to stories of the worst of Samâs childhood punishments, even sleeping sitting up in a jail cell in New Mexico when Samâs newfound chutzpah found purchase with a rowdy biker, there was Danny at the end of it all. Patiently awaiting what fresh hell Sam would drag him into next.Â
âI love you, too,â Danny assured him. âBut are you in love with me?â
âFucking obviously,â Sam blurted. âI'm so in love with you, Danny, fuck. I didnât realize I even had to clarify that.â
âOf course you did! How else would I know?â Danny laughed, eyes glittering with glee and relief at Samâs confirmation.
âI thought I had made myself plenty clear when I followed you across the country with zero hesitation. Twice.â
âI guess thatâs fair.â
âAlso, I mean, you popped my cherry, so.â
âYou werenât gonna give that up for just anyone, huh?â Danny laughed, his freckled nose crinkling.Â
âNope,â Sam smiled flirtatiously. âI was saving it for truuue looove.â
âIs that what this is?â Danny asked softly, his smile paling with uncertainty as he searched Samâs dark eyes.Â
âI hope so,â Sam breathed, his heart racing just as fast as it did when he was still learning to look at Danny without feeling faint. âDo you think it is?â
âI do,â Danny said sincerely, cupping Samâs jaw. âLetâs say it is and go from there.â
âWorks for me,â Sam agreed, nervously tilting his chin forward and melting from the inside out when Danny met him with a fiery kiss.
Sam was no stranger to the possessive pressure Danny preferred to apply when kissing, but there was something fierce behind this kiss that left Sam feeling utterly and completely loved. Lying in the same bed just over a year ago, Sam recalled how heâd bundle the blankets into a wall to press his back against as he slept, pretending it was someone to keep him steady and wake him in the morning. He thought of how that was something he didnât need to dream about anymore. He thought of how lucky he was. How blessed.
âIâm starting to think Josh may have been right,â Sam sighed against Dannyâs mouth, now tucked under him with Dannyâs loose curls tickling his cheeks. âI think youâre my guardian angel.â
âYouâre the angel here,â Danny insisted, thinking of Samâs tattoo and feeling his thighs tighten unconsciously on either side of Samâs hips. âNever gonna let anyone clip your wings ever again.â
âIâm serious,â Sam whined, twining his fingers in Dannyâs hair and pulling him closer. âYouâre the real deal.â
âMaybe Josh did get one thing right tonight.â
âSpeaking of JoshâŠhow do you feel about another passenger on our way to Florida?â
âHeâs going to have to share the backseat with Jake if thatâs the new plan, âcause Iâm pretty sure I convinced Jake to pack up too.â
âFamily road trip,â Sam sang. âI hope your parents donât mind.â
âNo, theyâll love a full house,â Danny answered. âAnd my sister will love peer pressuring them into doing stupid shit.â
âI canât wait to see them drunk for the first time,â Sam confessed with a laugh. âTheyâll be fucking ridiculous.â
âI donât know if youâll want to see them like that if theyâre anything like you were the first time you got drunk,â Danny teased, nipping at Samâs earlobe. âIâve still never heard you talk like you did that night.â
âStop that,â Sam giggled, muffling a squeak when Danny kissed the sensitive skin under his ear. âI donât even remember half of that night.â
âYour brain is protecting your dignity,â Danny joked, his voice low and warm against the shell of Samâs ear. âYou were kind of a slut.â
âYeah?â Sam asked weakly, panting slightly from so little. Danny tended to do that to him.
âOh, yeah. Big time. You cried when I wouldnât put it in.â
Sam immediately slapped a hand over Dannyâs mouth and shushed him theatrically, attempting to smother him when Danny laughed hysterically and tried to lick and bite at his fingers.
âWhat if they heard you!â Sam hissed, his wrists now pinned beside him as Danny held him down with visible triumph.
âThen Iâll apologize!â Danny laughed, jostling as Sam tried to wrench himself out from under him. âYouâre the one making the mattress squeak all suspiciously. This is a Christian household, Sam, I mean really.â
âShut up!â
âYou shut up!â
âI hate you,â Sam declared quietly, sharp eyes trained up at Danny with a glimmer of mischief dancing at his waterline. Danny smiled fondly and lowered himself so their chests were pressed together. He cocked his head, looking Sam over with his hazel eyes lush with emotion.
âAnd I will love you âtil the day I die, Sam Kiszka,â Danny announced, pressing his lips to Samâs with careful appreciation and keeping them there for the hours that followed.Â
In the morning, theyâd clamor and argue and shed tears before pulling out of Shady Grove with a body in every seat of Dannyâs beat up little truck. Theyâd follow the fate line to Florida to settle and heal and wander from the path like they always did. But that night, they had nothing to do but lay under the blanket of the whistling Alabama sky and love each other.
Theyâd find in the years and decades that followed, it never got much more complicated than that.

Series Masterlist
You lose them a thousand times in a thousand ways. You say a thousand goodbyes. You hold a thousand funerals â Sara Seager
â80% of the containers have been secured in the port bay with the rest being carried in as we speak,â Boil relayed, pointed finger strictly scrolling through his datapad that hummed a striking cobalt glow amidst Lanosâs softer, earthy tones.
He stood at the ready to your left with his helm resting under an arm, taking in each and every two-to-three digit number emanating from the device while you surveyed the array of pale blue repulsersleds bustling atop the portâs grayed, metal landing platform. Ferrying tightly strapped cargo into the bay alongside their clone guardians like a flawless, tapered conveyor belt adhering to a strict timetable.
Most notable, however, was the way this living machine collectively dwarfed the sporadic bands of clone lieutenants who, toting their own Republic-issued datapads, coordinated delivery logistics with counterpart supply port stationaries. Though the brighter energies that rippled through the Force certainly haggled for a higher podium, as the latter of those two, similarity garbed groups seemed all the more enlivened by the marginal increase in activity on such an otherwise docile planet.
âThe station Sergeant is currently off-base engaging another matterâ,â Boil mentioned off-handedly. ââbut sends his regards.â
âThanks, Boil,â you hummed, silver orbs drifting beyond the organized fuss that circled like bees calculating predetermined patterns long ago inscribed in their very DNA.
Those same eyes flitted by the steel, square-cut terraceâs narrowed path which assumed the shape of a bottleneck in its stretch through the far, inner bay. Then, past the raised, blocky, metallic structure trading in checkered viewports for highly reinforced paneling. One that every day offered the stationâs clones a welcome retreat from the planetâs emphatically beating, yellow sun. Just as it shielded them from any other element posing as a threat to the Republicâs mission.
To its perseverance through this war.
âI suppose the next step is to finish the delivery before regrouping to return to The Negotiator,â you evenly deduced. âRight?â
The sharp-eyed clone offered a slight nod. âAffirmative.â
But even foreign structures that cried Coruscanti architecture and hammered down brutalist design amidst Lanosâs creamy breezes and florid expanse did little to hold your attention. Those motionless, gray confines battling against any root or creeping vine that dared to snake under its foundation or slither across its walls failed to yank at your outer lipâs muscles.
At least, not with a vigor comparable to the involuntary jolt you felt strike those same nerves just from the swiping flash of a certain bunch of saffron fur scampering by the tree line.
Though, in spite of the curious, fox-like creatureâs daring attempts to acquire the title âHonorary Republic Recruitâ from afar, the attentive animal still maintained a devoted caution as they steered a wide berth around the manmade metals which, like a disease, thinned the once lusciously stretching trees bordering its walls.
Instead, the well-groomed critter found temporary solace in nuzzling their tail with cheerfully squinted eyes amidst the deeper, healthier greens and sturdier trunks carrying thicker bark. A microcosm of the wider forestâs hilly character, which rolled around the entrenched, and fairly hidden, compound before flinging back out again for miles, like massive waves frozen in time millennia ago to house a countless abundance of life.
âIf youâre worried about that animal interfering with platform operations, I can send a few boys to scare it off.â
âNo, no,â you quickly assured with a flicking wave of your hand, dismissing the no-nonsense clone while silver eyes strung to distant, peering yellows.
âThatâs alright. They arenât hurting anyone. Just curious.â
âUnderstood,â he asserted quickly before stretching back into his planned briefing with a muscle memory akin to the dash of his head toward the glowing datapad.
âBecause the storm has cleared it should be an easy takeoff. The shuttles will be able to meet us at port.â
âSounds like our legs will finally get a break,â you teased lightly, sending the horseshoe-bearded man a knowing glance.
A deep, throaty chuckle fell from his lips as you lifted a few fingers to flit away another droplet of sweat rushing down your forehead from the increasingly belting heat and weakening gusts whose dying breaths failed to chill the air.
âI certainly hopeââ
A sharp, singeing thread tugged at your prickling senses from within the Force, snapping your neck toward the source of the sensation before the flaring, scarlet bolt rapidly consuming your vision launched your nimble body, arms fanned out, to roughly shove Boil out of the way. Sending you both tumbling toward the unforgiving ground as the steaming blaze just barely hurled above each of your heads.
âAmbush!â You screamed after sorely rolling off the rather surprised clone and onto a less bruised back, primary hand clawing for your belt.
Your madly thrashing heart reigned into a steady chill with the initial pulse of adrenaline beginning to wean. And by pure chance alone, it was in that very brief second, as blood rushed past ear drums, that you began to feel an unexpectedly sudden heat center on your left wrist.
Thrusting that very arm up and into your vision, you spotted the sporadic, bubbling crackles and scarlet sparks of a damaged wrist comm whose drooping, dark metal structure threatened to melt into your already itching arm.
Quickly, you scrambled to your feet, right hand tightly wrapped around your unclasped saber as you levied it to thwack off the sizzling comm, permitting the decaying device to clatter across the dense platform as it sibilated into spare parts.
Having freed yourself of that discomfort, you swiftly ignited the saberâs buzzing, gray glow before angling toward the damage-inflicting direction. Yet even still amidst such a swift spin, you couldnât help but absorb just how the landscapeâs bright aura, which once overshadowed the rear portâs barren metallurgic twilight, now hung moodier as peaceful woods suddenly turned not so serene.
Emerging from the left side of a large hill positioned before the facility appeared an ever-growing array of creaking and whining metallic beasts.
With the prickling hairs atop the nape of your neck, you felt as the rear clones rushed to their assigned stations while a line of at least ten⊠twentyâŠ.. thirty and counting mustard yellow, beaked droids carrying stringy arms and legs jounced through the groundâs apex with grimy, heavy-duty blasters secured in hand.
Interspersed within their ranks and towering at least triple their size inched forward a darker, all-encompassing model whose pointed soles shredded verdant grass into marred, brittle soil. Colicoid-like droids that commanded three jointed legs, two weaponized arms, and a spine contorting into some sort of red-fanged face that curved inwards, all behind a spherical shield which quivered a transparent blue.
Thatâs what mustâve nearly hit Boil, you surmised, when another one of those cold, rigid arms blasted off a similarly behaved bolt toward a far cargo container. Shattering it into scattering, hot white-and-red shards, and sending a few nearby clones flying by some feet as a cacophony of shocked yells stalked their paths.
And, unfortunately, it appeared that second blast was enough to effectively signal the rest of the progressively expanding battalion to finally commence their full-fledged attack.
Streaks of thick, fiery crimson, slender orange, and harsh blue beams coated the sky like violent patchwork, darkening the planetâs once stilled and luscious atmosphere into one of rising, smoky death. Filling your nostrils with the noxious scent of burning plasma and battering your eardrums with strained voices that desperately shouted all around you.
âMen, with me!â
âI need help over here!â
âMedic!â
âMove back! Move back!â
âYou two, blast âem Rollies!â
Their echoes careened over the sharp buzz of your saber as it swung through the air to collide with showering beams. And while, foregoing your long lost wrist comm, you remained relatively unscathed, you still struggled to afford the men fighting alongside you that same luxury.
Far to your left, a quintet of clones gradually retreated through a clean, V-formation as blue spires erupted from their phasers. Only for the incoming brigadeâs ceaseless fire to clip the far right soldierâs arm, tearing at his upper plate which oozed a deep crimson athwart its snowy glaze.
Another profuse liberation of deadly rain, and an additional victim emerged as a flaming, hot bolt dug its way through the stepping foot of one of the middlemen, eliciting a pained groan while smoke sprang from the blackening wound.
You tried to help them. Mostly by tapping into their interlinkage with the all-encompassing Force as youâd discovered to do in recent weeks. Relying on this riddled tactic to empower your connection against insurmountable odds as you shoved pre-fired blaster heads into non-lethal directions and tugged out the legs from underneath yellowed battle droids while their brethren marched on unfazed and unfettered.
It wasnât a chief, battle-altering tactic, but it was sure to meet at least one goal you had in mind: doing everything in your power to give the clones around you those precious, few extra seconds needed to seek cover from this overwhelmingly multiplying attack force.
But you only had so much to give.
No matter what, you couldnât take your eyes off the eternal task of reflecting away each bolt that careened toward your person. And that was all while making every attempt to reduce the droidâs numbers with a deliberate swipe of your saber or a dexterous application of the Force. But it was when you considered the added responsibility of aiding any nearby clone struggling to defend against perpetually growing enemy numbers that the muddling task became quite daunting.
Suddenly, the corner of your vision caught a familiar, garish tone, drawing your gaze back behind the gradually receding quintet and toward a clone marked by an unavoidable, olive-green circle. A symbol that wouldâve blended with the planetâs wider greenery had the billowing plasmic smoke been given enough time to clear.
However, unlike the rest of the platoon, this particular soldier chose instead to steadily march forward, soon passing the withdrawing V-formation like passing ships in the wildest of starless space sectors as he covered their retreat with an azure floodlight of bolts flying from his blaster.
âGet back, Getter!â You commanded, saber swinging elegantly in a controlled retreat as you sent an occasional hard glance toward the disobedient clone.
âIâm Forward Line!â He shouted through the muffled feedback of his sound-amplified helmet, failing to spare any glance away from the threat that marched head-on.
His feet crept forward, indefinite tone communicating his plans while the increasing barrage of bolts threatened your versatility.
âIâll coveââ
A dense, blistering flare of plasma swiped straight through the eye of Getterâs helmet, leaving a charred, flaky perforation in its place that stifled his body like an off-switch.
He didnât even tense.
Instead, the moment gravity recalled its birthright, he collapsed like a rag doll. Simply becoming a jumbled pile of arms and legs.
Your jaw slackened as a pinprick chill consumed your body.
âSilvey! Orders!?â Boil cried from close behind as his blaster ricocheted into the panoramic mob.
Row upon row unfurled across the hillâs peak, spilling into the valleyâs depths like loose marbles from an endlessly deep bucket.
Though the frigidity that repeatedly ripped down your spine seemed to momentarily disconnect you from its horror as your mind focused on the present threat.
Those larger, curved âRolliesâ could transform into whirling spheres, empowering them to rocket down the hillside. Treating anything you were unable to Force shove away in time, be it scattered equipment or Front Line clones, like loose pins for the taking.
And it seemed, as your brain dizzied at the lives being ripped out of good menâs hands, that such a manipulation considered effortlessly simple by any Jedi was becoming too much of a task.
âGet a comm to Kenobi that we need reinforcements yesterday!ââ You yelled somewhat hazily as your mind desperately centered a connective blanket around one of the barreling Rollies so to redirect it into another speeding down beside it, coercing their shields to interact and combust into blue sparks and stinging flames.
You heaved in another gasp of chemically tinted, plasmic smoke.
ââAnd to bring any ideas on how to cut off this slope! Else weâre sitting ducks!â
âCopy!â He called before you sensed him spin on his heel toward the rear command center.
Until your next words stopped him in his tracks.
Because Getterâs sacrifice wouldnât be in vain.
And you needed to do something.
âIâm getting in the trenches to try to cut these rolling things off!â
You creaked your neck sideways as another hot blast whizzed past your tingling ear.
âYouâll need support!â He advised with a hand cupping his mouth. âIâll redirect a few boys your way!â
Another bolt diverted toward an unsuspecting set of droids smashed a few of the batchâs heads together.
âNo!â You slammed, fending off another wall of vivid fire.
No more men die today.
They canât.
Not during your first command.
Not ever.
Not afterâ
No.
âYou focus on getting that message to the General,â you continued with gritted teeth, saber spinning into a swelling, pallid fireball. âIf I need help, Iâll ask. Now go!â
His boots squeaked against the once sun-dried platform, now spattered with occasional streaks of thick, deep-crimsoned goop. Smattering the sound of his voice as the subtle scent of copper trailed in the air like itinerant pollen that clogged your sinuses and sullied your tastebuds.
âComm to me in the bay!â
â
Oh, Anakin.
That was the repetitive acknowledgment encircling Obi-Wanâs thoughts as he silently observed Master Yoda, Master Windu, and Chancellor Palpatineâs shivering, blue holocomms occasionally snap out of shape, all while he stood casually in one of the shipâs empty, gray conference rooms to ensure a private meeting.
Calling from such distances was sure to elicit additional signal disturbances, and, sometimes, would even cause temporary blackouts. But fortunately, or unfortunately, for the General, none of those occurrences prevented Kenobi from discovering his former Padawanâs unsanctioned change of plans through a similar comm exchange a few hours ago.
Of course, it was his responsibility to ensure the arrival of the escort in Anakinâs charge. Maybe thatâs because, whether tied to the mission or not, Obi-Wan always seemed to be the first to learn about Skywalkerâs impulsive decisions. This time being his insubordinate choice to rope his own Padawan into a patched-together rescue mission following ambivalent reports regarding Master Plo Koonâs fleet.
He certainly always found a way, didnât he?
Yes, technically, because it was just Anakin and Ahsoka redeploying, then the convoys would be unrestricted in meeting the arranged rendezvous with the rest of the fleet.
But still, Skywalker was a General now. Could that chestnut-haired man not go off on his own without at least informing another Jedi tasked with this mission first?
Anakin could have told him.
And, honestly, while Kenobi knew he wouldâve put up a bit of a fight at the suggestion of such a change of plans, the Jedi Master still fully comprehended that, in the end, he had the trust to watch his former Padawan go.
Because, deep down, Obi-Wan knew that, despite the potential strategic sacrifice, it was the right thing to do.
Not that he had much choice to do anything else since Skywalker had already arrived at the attack site.
And now, consequentially, in his station as both military General and Jedi Council member, Kenobi was the one required to deliver this pesky news to the necessary officials in his place.
âTwice the trouble, they have become,â Master Yoda sighed, rounded eyes dribbling toward the ground in contemplation. âA reckless decision, Skywalker has made.â
The weary Chancellorâs snow-white furrow deepened. âLet us hope it is not a costly one.â
Palpatine exhaled gradually, dipping gaze giving room for the three Jedi hovering subserviently in his presence a moment to absorb the flickers of combat fatigue that affected the deciding politician. Though, despite the momentary pause, the Chancellor was quick to recover, flicking his far-out stare toward the trio with a manufactured smile that struggled to assure that he was, in fact, quite alright.
âI do apologize, gentleman, but I have another meeting with the Senator from Kestos Minor shortly, so I must leave you.â
âOf course, Chancellor,â Kenobi acknowledged for the Jedi in attendance.
And with that, the former Senatorâs unstable image evaporated into azure sparks before fading into the roomâs wider darkness.
âAn eye on your former Padawan, you must keep,â Master Yoda noted, motioning a hand clasped around his irregularly curved gimer stick toward Kenobi. âAn update, I request, next we meet.â
âYes, Master Yoda,â Obi-Wan assured. âI will keep track of him.â
But not before addressing the puckering questions that prodded his brain tissue all afternoon.
At least, ever since speaking with you.
âDo you have a moment, Master Windu?â Kenobi questioned, just as the Grand Masterâs digital picture similarly flickered into cerulean specks of nothingness.
The older Master glanced at Obi-Wan out of his peripheral, torso still respectively angled toward the empty cavity where Yodaâs silhouette once stood before smoothly pivoting with a subtly tilted neck toward the inquisitive Jedi.
âI do,â he punctuated with taught features. âAnd what is this regarding?â
âSilvey,â Obi-Wan plainly replied, allowing his voice alone to carry him through the next few seconds so to disallow himself from failing to speak of these matters at all.
âI was made aware earlier today that they were not fully informed of their condition following the incident. As their Master, and the one tasked with notifying them in place of the Healer, I was hoping to inquire as to why?â
A blank stare of unreadable stillness crossed the thousand light years in a fashion only Mace Windu, complexion of secrets and answers, could achieve.
âAs their advisor, I provided only necessary information,â he clarified simply with the gesturing support of his hand. âIt was unnecessary to subject Silvey to the past when they successfully recovered.â
Obi-Wanâs lips twitched into an imperceptibly partial frown.
Perhaps Master Windu⊠knew more than he was letting on?
He talked of deeming certain details imperative to share, which could suggest that there were facts being kept secret, even from you, for reasons beyond the bearded Jediâs current knowledge.
At least, thatâs what Obi-Wan convinced himself.
It would be the only explanation for such a decision, he thought. For seemingly sending you on a mission without any concern for the unknown factors at play, and for this indefinite justification of why.
That would be the only thing that made any lick of sense.
And that also couldâve meant, maybe, just maybe, Kenobi wasnât the only one beginning to sense remnants of your mind within the Force.
Perhaps Mace Windu already discovered this development. Or perhaps, it was even possible the elder Master had something to do with it.
That, as your âadvisor,â he was already a few steps ahead. And that, in your meditation sessions, he found something. Triggered something.
Knew something.
Either way, the General desired to understand.
âAnd how are we to know that?â Kenobi tested carefully, eyeing the strict Jediâs cheekbones for any small, reflexive hint. âYou yourself admitted to an inability to perceive their mind, the cause of these headaches, or the incidentâs nature. By those facts alone, how can it be possible to assume that this is truly in the past?â
Pressing his lips into a thin line with arms confidently folded into themselves, Master Windu intrepidly spoke as broadened shoulders secured his stance.
âThe Republic is in need of more Jedi on the field. You of all people are aware of that fact, Master Kenobi,â he stated. âI made the most reasonable decision given our circumstances. Such details are not of our immediate concern. We cannot afford it.â
Obi-Wan couldnât help the taught string of confusion and wiry cords of astonishment that knit across his forehead, muscling down the rest of his features like a sudden tug on the loose end of an interwoven thread.
Mace knew nothing.
And, with that in mind, Kenobi never expected such indifference to be applied to a situation deemed incomprehensible by even the Grand Master himself a few days earlier. Toward a state of affairs clouded by the ever-living Force in a plum of enigmatic readings, which, to the Council, was always a less than desirable sign.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
Said the Code.
So then to brush this all off? And dismiss its repercussions to his own mentee, no less.
Obi-Wan raised a hand, curling a few knuckles to provide his chin a thoughtful rest. All in an attempt to imbue the Force with interim civility as his mind rapidly flipped through Maceâs words.
And it didnât take long for him to realize that all this⊠Every decision made concerning youâŠ
It was this war.
It was changing Windu like it was changing all of them. All the Jedi. Causing them to lose sight of what was once important in the days before the Battle of Geonosis.
But this wasnât right.
Something was clearly influencing you. And, despite the Republicâs shifting priorities, Mace needed to be reminded that this situation, no matter how diverting, was just as important to the Councilâs overarching mission as its efforts in this war.
To the Jediâs purpose.
To peace.
These headaches and their culminated crisis may have evolved into a creature of the past. But it was their state of unpredictability, and the Galaxy-altering implications of a Guardian thrown from commission, which convinced Kenobi that the Council mustnât lose sight of such solemnity. Especially not during a decade in which the Grand Master sensed the Force to have grown, in some pockets, indecipherable.
And no matter what, you deserved to know the full nature of these incidents.
Obi-Wanâs jaw released, poking away the useless support of bent fingers as his arm fell to the side at a rate equal to the blooming resolution which consumed the bearded manâs blue-eyed countenance. A visual marker, or signature stamp, of the Master Jediâs acceptance that no war would stymie him from making these very thoughts known to the glitching holocomm across from him.
So much so, that he nearly missed the echoing chime of the conference roomâs automatic door as its mechanics whirred open.
âGeneral!â
Kenobiâs neck snapped toward the urgent inflection shimmering from Commander Codyâs tensed lips, just as brightly as the orange embellishments accenting his trooper armor reflected the white lights streaming overhead.
He was leaned into a forward stance, a puff of air proving him not a still-life statue as he caught his balance. All in an effort to suddenly halt a spirited sprint into the conference room that eventually, from the exertion alone, impelled him to expel the rest.
âThereâs been a surprise attack on the supply port and the platoon left behind on Lanos.â
A dryness consumed Kenobiâs tongue as another simply armored clone dashed through the same whirring, mechanical door. Sprightly stepping up to whisper a few quick words to his Commander just before the aperture behind him buzzed shut once more.
âReports of heavy casualties,â Cody parroted with an ear leaned toward the newly arrived lieutenant. âAnd they are requesting immediate reinforcements.â
âI will leave you to address this more immediate concern, Master Kenobi,â Windu relayed from the twitching holocomm image strikingly emanating from behind; his expression stilled except for the subtle twinge of disappointment drooping the outer corners of his eyes.
âYes,â Obi-Wan affirmed, clearing his voice as moisture coated a tickling throat.
At least enough for him to sign off with one final message aimed toward his fellow Council member.
âI will see you at the rendezvous.â
â
A burning ache entangled each limbâs muscles like winding vines as you fended off the coming onslaught. Centering yourself in the lowest dip of the valleyâs crease wasnât necessarily the most strategic move given your current predicament. Especially considering it labeled your dodging figure as prime target practice for the ropes of Rollies that erratically spun down the hillside at spine-chilling speeds.
But you didnât have any choice.
Not if you hoped to become an unbreakable barrier of pure might and agility, impeding a near three-hundred mix of droids threatening the platoonâs lives who hastily regrouped behind you.
Various squad formations would mark the best vantage points atop the portâs landing platform from which to lay fire upon the siege. Though that was the extent to which the battalion could effectively participate. Joining you in the, quite literal, trenches was a death sentence to any non-Force Sensitive individual hoping to take a stand against an attacking strength of this magnitude.
It was your ability, and your ability alone, to navigate the rapidly shifting elements of surrounding energies that empowered you to fight in their place while dodging and manipulating droids who shot walls of steady fire or suddenly sprung at you with their dense, steel bodies.
Yet, no matter your resilience, you still possessed the same weakness every other living being faced in adrenalizing circumstances.
You were growing quite exhausted.
âReinforcements are almost here!â You heard Boil yell from far behind while he used a nearby repulsersled flipped into a makeshift shield to traverse the compound drowned in chemical fires and bloodied chaos. âYou canât stay there forever!â
You wrapped your fingers around the air as invisible claws shimmied their way around a Rollie barreling toward your figure before rapidly thrusting that same fist to the side, leading the machineâs suddenly bouncing trajectory to hurtle into a group of about eight battle droids.
One in particular sluggishly swiveled its head toward the oncoming sight with subtle reservation as it expelled creaky, undulating words.
âOh no.â
Until they became another scattered pile of far-flung, broken parts, an explosion colored by blasting crimson and cobalt sparks.
âIâm gonna have to!â You called back, the swing of your saber nearly transforming into a cloudy blur of heat before your very, watering eyes as you deflected bolt after bolt while sidestepping through the uneven hollow. âWeâll lose our only advantage!â
âExcuse me for saying, Silvey, but I think that losing a Jedi will be cutting our advantage!â
You knew he was right.
But you were quickly learning that in war, there was no easy choice.
You werenât going to lose anyone else.
Maker⊠you couldnât.
You just⊠couldnât.
A scorching, slash clawed into your left calf, electrifying all the way down to your ankle as a surprised yelp was drawn from your lips.
And it wasnât long before that very foot and sorely exercised knee buckled under the shocking pressure, slamming both roughly into the dirt as you felt another breeze graze the touches of your back exposed by rips in the fabric. All from those quick tumbles against newly jagged ground with raised rock shards and disturbed mounds formed by the ongoing conflict.
You briefly glanced down to assess the damage, relying on your senses' contextual intertwinement and the dancing light of your gray saber to defend against the ongoing downpour of bolts. Showers that fell from the hilltop with such magnitude that you couldâve sworn the sky was crying smoky tears.
Speaking of bolts, it appeared one had cut you down pretty good as a severely bloodied laceration oozing black, bubbling soot stingingly throbbed the bottom half of your leg. Consuming your vision with its strongly contrasting, dark tinge even amidst your armorâs shadowy undertones.
So much for those Republic-tested shin guards, you internally grunted.
And, regrettably, with one leg out of commission, it didnât take long for your wearied body and continuously fogging gaze to make another mistake.
Even if it was only for a split second.
While desperately side-crawling toward the landing pad, in an effort to impede an enemy group from its newly-angled, swift approach, you missed an arbitrary bolt that collided with the hilt of your saber. Snapping it out of your hand as its protective covering took the brunt of the blast, but still flung it a few meters out from your grip all the same.
Your head spun back toward the main invading Force, only to be met with an inky black blaster whose cold body was levied mere centimeters from your forehead.
Dark spots crept into your peripheral like a predator surveying its prey as your palms dug into the disturbed dirt below.
âWow, look guys!â The titillated battle droid exclaimed. âI got a Jedi!â
Shades of flaming red exploded before your very eyes.
But not for the reason you thought.
No, whatever that was, it wasnât blood.
It was much moreâŠ
Much tooâŠ
Fuzzy?
Scrapping at whatever strength you had left, you focused your shaky stare above. Only to be met with the strikingly pigmented fox of before, wrapped around the battle droidâs torso like a constricting tendril as it gnawed with growling rage at the mechanical thingâs armed skeletal limb.
âAh! What is this?â The off-yellow machine bellowed. âGet it off me! Get it off me!â
He spun in unsteady circles, flinging his targeted arm as if fire consumed its nonexistent nerves, drilled feet stumbling over each other while the fox laid savagely into their assault.
Until the droid hoisted its other revolving hand, slamming it down once, and then twice, across the creatureâs wet snout. A sickening crack, and its shiny, fur coat slung from the machine before landing as a mangled heap onto the ground.
You thrust a hand toward your saber, scratching at the Force to coax it to your fingers as it catapulted into your grasp.
A reflection of the blasterâs barrel stung your eye.
One squealing pop flung through the air.
And then another.
âGood riddance,â the droid mumbled while it drearily kicked the still warm, but entirely lifeless creature left at its feet.
You were too late.
You were always too late.
Qui-Gonâs paled skin. His glazed, breathless eyes.
And then you saw it.
You swore you saw it.
A flash of that horned, devil face harshly stomped across the foxâs barren throat.
And your blood ran cold.
So frigid, that an icy film mustâve shielded your eyes while they blurred in contest with an increasingly congested mind. The resonating cries of commanding clones, marching mechanical feet, and rushing metal clamoring against loose bolts all melded into a muddled echo of the past. Even Boilâs distended calls, which freely rang around inching droids as he laid down fire, melded into the rest of the world.
Instead, a high-pitched tone displaced their existence, slackening your jaw and dangerously slowing your breath while a weight unlike any other yanked down at your sternum.
And amidst all that drowning havoc, you barely noticed the large, gray shuttle with faint red accents descend before you.
Almost immediately, and with growing intensity, its engines were able to sweep away any nearby battle droids as they flung and tumbled across the grass like loose scraps. Even the Rollies found their maneuverability stifled as they transformed back into a legged form before being tossed away like loose credits via their curvature alone.
Yet, even though the vehicle landed between you and the incoming fire, its rear door descending as a fluttering ivory robe and flashes of white armor darted down its ramp, it was still not enough to rip you out from yourself.
It was only partially, that your awareness sparked, and for a moment oh so brief, as a flash of auburn tufts poked a hole in that stunned cataract.
âSilvey!â
A distant echo among muffled blaster fire, but the ringing tone did seem to partially subside.
âSilvey! Can you hear me?!â
You swallowed, vision clearing just enough to recognize a familiar pair of widened, bright blue eyes.
Though you had no idea how he got here.
âObi-Wan?â You questioned hazily with scrunched brows.
âLetâs get you to the ship!â He declared firmly, eyes drifting toward your mangled leg as a hint of displeasure creased his eyes.
But he hesitated for only a second before quickly wrapping his fingers around your free arm to tug you that away.
And, truth be told, it was that moment, that single moment, the warm feeling of his grip as plasmic fumes assaulted your senses, that became the last instant of Lanos you truly remembered.
You recalled the gentle pressure of Kenobiâs fingers releasing your arm into the shuttle just before it lifted from the ground while he sprinted off, pearly armor catching the sunâs smoke-scattered glare as he joined the fight. And you could remember the stinging weight that dragged at your muscles as you stood for the first time after the hull abruptly docked at The Negotiator.
A feeling that haunted you with each step you traversed from the shuttle bay to your temporary quarters.
You could even recall the taste of the stale ship air that reigned menial against Lanosâs essence of fresh vegetation and untouched atmosphere. Though that particular memory was hard to forget, considering those same elements pervaded your quarters.
What you couldnât remember, however, was what anyone had said to you. If anyone had said anything at all. You couldnât remember when your injured leg was wrapped, or who did it. You couldnât remember whether the battle was won. You couldnât remember entering the lift to the residential section of the ship. And you couldnât remember the familiar whooshing creak of your quarterâs automatic door.
Oh Maker, no.
You couldnât recall whether that faulty sound tolled when the aperture opened.
You could only trust that the door had, in fact, shut behind you as you ambled into your quarters, deactivated lightsaber falling from your bruised fingers before rudely clacking across the carpeted floor. You could only hope that the walls, too, were thick enough to deafen the sound of your falling knees as they collided with the itchy carpetâs prickling texture.
And you could pray that the falling tears wetting your cheeks and soaking your tunic, and the hiccuping breaths stopping your heart, would somehow ease the agonizing burden that crushed your chest with the bodies of all you had lost.
â
âAnd the facility was secured?â Master Kenobi inquired once Commander Cody concluded his cursory report on the impromptu attack.
Both general and soldier ambled down the curved, tubular hallway of one of the shipâs upper decks, lined with identically placed doors and overhead lights that perfectly reflected the Republicâs preference for uniformed architecture. Still though, Obi-Wanâs wandering eyes would soak up their every detail, down to the personalized wear of certain entry panels or noticeable scuffs decorating the steel floor whenever he participated in such debriefs.
It allowed his mind to focus on the task at hand. No matter the aeonian tumult that bled into their essence or bordered his thoughts.
âYes, General,â Cody assured evenly as his long-barreled, black phaser, still warm from battle, patiently hung from a confident grip; swaying with each step that fell in line with his superiorâs steady stride.
âAnd we incurred far less casualties than anticipated,â he continued, with a hint of optimism so subtle that even Kenobi struggled to detect it. âMy men report that the General is to thank for that.â
An unconscious hand hovered toward Obi-Wanâs chin, gently stroking his beardâs loose tufts while the Jedi Master continued to absorb his officerâs words like a Bluebell squish would sunlight.
Though his gaze still dallied across the ephemeral doors.
âHad they not stood their ground in the valleyâs trenchâŠâ Cody liberated. âI doubt much of the platoon would be left standing.â
Kenobiâs chest rose and fell with a gradualness that seemed to suspend time itself. Still, his legs carried him onwards, as a shuttle set on autopilot would transport its passengers by endless star systems, and the beauties in between.
You certainly took a huge risk, he noted. Pushing yourself to the very brink to protect the lives of his own battalion.
But did you know just how close you came to the point of no return?
The Master Jedi considered that even Anakin wouldâve deemed the act of entering and remaining in the trenches terribly reckless.
And that was saying something.
But you were Qui-Gonâs Padawan, after all. And Obi-Wan knew better than anyone that drilled into your being was the desire to avoid violence at all costs. To preserve the manifestations of the Force by protecting any and all beings who necessitated aid.
Though you were never prepared for a war that coerced Jedi to conform to a changed Galaxy.
And it coerced him to considerâŠ
Should he say something?
âSir.â
The General need not rely on Force-attuned senses to notice the Commander slowed his gate into a standstill from the corner of an observant eye. Leashing Kenobi to do the same as he angled to face the solider whose mollified shoulders stimulated satiny brown orbs to soften.
âSome of the boys and I would like to thank the General in person for what they did today,â he expressed somewhat awkwardly, hand jolting up to scratch the back of his head as his eyes dipped off to the side. âAny chance you could share a heads up when they may be up for it, Sir?â
An involuntary twitch tugged at the corner of the Generalâs tensed lips. Though his revelation after the fact choked the sensation before it had any chance of crawling up to ensnare his bright, cerulean orbs.
No. Not yet, the bearded man concluded.
He couldnât share his worries.
Because Kenobi dreaded that doing so would risk metamorphosis.
It would be, conceivably, like asking you to transform into a different breed of Jedi. One whoâd fail to touch the hearts of men with such infectious reverence and unity.
You were a being who would, no matter what, sacrifice each and every far-off particle of themselves if it meant preserving just one more life, or to cease the wands of conflict indefinitely.
The Way of Qui-Gonâs age, that felt so long ago.
Before its prime was sullied by warâŠ
Suppressing his former Masterâs Renaissance teachings in favor of this changed Galaxy, like so many Jedi of late, like Mace Windu, would fundamentally alter you.
And it was that very concept that sucked away the energy of his mind, like a siphon draining liquid gold down through his stiffened spine, and out through his toes.
âOf course, Commander,â Kenobi expelled fluidly. âIâm certain they would valuââ
A gust of pressurized mass flung by the duo with the brawn of a rushing wave, consuming Obi-Wanâs senses and depressing the hairs along his arms like a sudden shift in gravity as his once drained neck flicked toward the impressionâs oozing source, located somewhere farther down the hallway.
But while the piqued Jedi Masterâs piercing eyes initially saw nothing of concern, it was only a mere second later when the feeling quickly morphed into a troubling array as a pointed hole the size of a marble appeared to form in his ribcage, deliberately expanding into a bleak vacuum that nearly caught his breath.
Then came the pain.
An intense jab whose sharp instrument seemed to pierce the air with progressively afflicting shocks that were surely impossible for any Force-Sensative being to ignore.
At least, for him.
And while this sensationâs source appeared to stray from his inner being, Kenobi could still perceive its utter potency, shattering his thoughts with one, unavoidable clarity:
That, no matter the impenetrability of mental blocks or molecular hints of presence within the Force, the only other being in this sector at all capable of emitting this kind of energy, was you.
And that could only mean one thing.
Something was very very wrong.
Given that youâd nearly escaped with your life not even an hour prior, Kenobi could only fear the worst as he mentally recounted your previously noted injuries.
UnlessâŠ
That earlier hesitationâŠ
âGeneral!â Cody alertedly yet curiously called after his superior officer as the auburn-haired manâs once composed posture devolved into a notably rushed jog, his white shoulder and shin guards doing little in the ways of stifling the whipping surge of his ivory robe as it caught the shipâs manufactured atmosphereâs resistance. âIs everything alright?â
âIâm not certain,â he replied with a leveled tone, though never assuaging his gate or turning his chin away from the path ahead as he rushed by door upon equivalent door. âI will comm you if not.â
It was quite fortunate, Obi-Wan realized, that heâd already been returning to his own quarters when he sensed the shift in the Force as they were situated a mere few doors down from your own. Otherwise, given your mindâs weak presence in its endless flow, he may not have caught onto the displacement until long after the fact. Still, he couldnât help but assign himself preliminary blame for whatever it was he began inwardly preparing to walk into.
He was too distracted to check in with you until now. Too preoccupied with leading reinforcements to turn the tide of that bloody sea of an ambush. And too absorbed in the logistics of determining just exactly how that Separatist attack force landed on Lanos without a lick of intelligence soaring his way. All while the General simultaneously ensured an on-track fleet rendezvous in the background.
But now, stood before your door amidst the heavy rise and fall of a stunted chest in which breath clutched its heels, the Jedi Master gravelly understood once again, fist hovering before its grayed coating in fleeting hesitation, that he had no choice but to rectify another mistake made in his task of certifying The Guardianâs safety.
His knuckles resonantly rapped the cold metal sheen separating you both.
âSilvey?â
But that empty, weighted crevice slithering within his deepest senses persisted, its stinging ambiance threatening to crack open his skin. Quite enough to convince the Jedi Master, as he reached a few fingers toward the doorâs panel to levy a couple overriding taps, that your current well-being transcended any and all swirling discomforts rooted in invading your personal space.
Yet, even with such logic secured as firmly on his belt as his lightsaber, nothing couldâve truly prepared Obi-Wan Kenobi for the sight that patiently awaited the mechanical entrywayâs opening swish, as his subsequent few steps into your thinly carpeted and modestly furnished quarters delivered an image not easily unseen.
Kneeled just a few meters before the stilled, auburn-haired man was your sternly bent-over figure, back hunched as strikingly as a shadow in a room simply lit by the vast array of stars that glimmered unbothered beyond the far wallâs viewport. Your wears were the same, with the various splotched, grimy stains and ripped, sagging ends of disturbed cloth still hugging your body like fearful younglings. Just as they had during the battleâs peak when Kenobiâs shuttle first landed.
Their drying crackles. Their stretching tears. They caught his gaze as fiercely as a spark of fire with each subtle quiver of your spine, an action which took his mind a moment to register as the trembling quake bedeviling enervated lungs.
From your blood-soiled calf bandage, ruggedly stuck, tussled hair, and sweat-adhered, dirt-crusted arms, Obi-Wan could only assume that youâd remained like this since your arrival. Submitting to your dark surroundings while lacking the inspiration to flip on a light.
And, most eerily, in a muteness that heightened the slightest creaks and far-off humming engines of a periodically groaning ship.
A recognition that deepened the already cavernous void threatening to swallow whole every vein branching from Kenobiâs chest into the muscle of each motionless shoulder.
This was nothing like the incident of days prior, which meant that the General was uncertain of what would help. How to fix this. Or even, what was wrong.
But he veritably knew that dropping a pin in the uncanny silence engulfing you both like a gaseous cloud would shatter his eardrums just as savagely as he assumed it would spiral whatever affliction you were enduring into a perilous state.
And that meant that, for the life of him. The Master Jedi had no idea how to proceed.
He could not breathe for apprehension that it would burst like a spark within an invisible hypermatter leak. Let alone speak a few words, nor your name, unless he knew that, without harm, he could.
So, Master Kenobi did the only thing he dreamed acceptable.
After idling by the entryway in perpetual uncertainty, the cautious Jedi adopted a lissome tread, leading his troubled brows and downturned cerulean eyes to finally seize a glimpse of your collapsed head as he rounded your form.
Your blotched countenance of stained tears and drained listlessness. Loose strands of hair soaked from sweat or anguish he did not know. Still, even your radiantly silver eyes seemed to gray in their moribund stare straight ahead, as if to watch a tiresome scene a thousand parsecs away run its course.
And it was that utter and complete stillness, a feeling invoking time to recede into long-forgotten history, that remained for a tense, immeasurable while.
Unsteady breaths continued to shudder your torso while eyes strung wide enough to perceive the whole Galaxy struggled to maintain their shape following the long sered, torrential flood. The cogs of overflowing thoughts crowding their rusting gears before the speechless manâs very eyes.
It felt near an eternity into the future or past had elapsed for Obi-Wan since he met your distant orbs. Yet their departed state, it seemed, never reflected your true awareness.
You were not trapped within your mind again.
âI spent my entire life on that barren planet,â you suddenly relayed hoarsely.
Or, maybe, in some ways, you were, Kenobi amended, as the sound of your strained voice heightened the Generalâs alertness all the way up to his hassled brows.
âAnd a decade of it in complete isolation.â
Laggardly, your jaded orbs lifted toward his own, neck barely shifting while you held his pursed lips and tensed jaw in a vice grip by the anticipation of your slowly spilling words alone.
âAnd yetââ
A single tear seeped through the dam, etching another stain into your storied cheeks as your chest quickened its heaves.
It was more than enough to have impelled Kenobi toward you. With a hand outstretched and a pulsing drive to somehow bring you any sliver of relief.
But Obi-Wan refrained from all that.
He knew he needed to listen. To understand first. So to learn how best to fix this.
He just wanted to fix this.
ââIâve never felt⊠quite⊠so alone.â
But with those six words, the Master Jediâs temperance seemed to wash away with the second droplet that traced a serene path down to your chin, proving another chink in the levee.
Promptly, but still with great care, Obi-Wan neared your body, both sets of eyes never severing while he lowered to his knees. Mirroring your form in complete and utter stillness as he encouraged you to continue with a reinforced, steadfast expression.
A tremulous exhale escaped your lungs, silver gaze breaking the connection before sinking to the wayside.
âNot as I do now,â you breathed. âNot when Qui-Gon is gone.â
Those two syllables, Kenobi registered. Two knocks that brought that dam to ruins.
âHeâs gone!â You croakily sobbed, a glare that could only reflect betrayal by the Galaxy itself rushing to perceive Kenobiâs affected countenance with an intensity that matched the gushing rain.
You raised a fist, tightening it in the air through a paled potency so sheer that Obi-Wan worried with stitched brows about the sharp damage your fingertips could be afflicting upon the contorted palm. All while silver eyes squeezed shut as if disgusted by the waves of pure agony that surmounted your figure.
âHeâs gone for good,â you gnawed breathily. âAnd nothing will ever bring him back.â
While heaving gasps brimmed the once noiseless, dulled gray walls, amplifying the hollowed suffering emanating through the Force, Kenobi felt his tensed spine and rigid limbs ease with the surge of conviction that steadily overcame him.
Doubtlessness that, like a good Jedi, he felt the need to ease your misery.
More than that. Your pain happened to affect him in such a way, that it felt distressing to do anything but lift his wrist to reach out a bracing palm.
For someone he appreciated as an admirable individual.
And for a being he was beginning to consider a good friend.
Gently, his palm graced the side of yours, signaling him to carefully wrap warm fingers around your strikingly frigid, raised fist. A gesture which relaxed open your tear-brimmed orbs while Obi-Wan cautiously lowered your languishingly trembling clutch. So gradually, that as both your and Obi-Wanâs arms reached each respective knee, the clasped hand was spurred to wholly unfurl, giving Kenobi room to relax his thumb against your flushed palm while he eyed you meaningfully.
âYou are not alone,â Obi-Wan firmly assured, his own voice eliciting a momentary shock as he heard its baritone timbre crush the presence of such prolonged and confounding silence.
âHeâs gone,â you repeated mindlessly with an empty gaze barely supporting your head.
Yet Obi-Wanâs persistence was as boundlessly unyielding as the grip he maintained on you.
âBut, youâre not alone.â
âObi-Wan,â you wept, nostrils flaring as you shook your head with thinned eyes; swallowing harshly. âPleasââ
Rapidly, with any fret of heedfulness tossed out the airlock, the Master Jedi brought his unchained hand toward your tottering jaw. Resting a loose knuckle under your chin to lift your searching gaze toward his.
You needed this, he excused. You needed to hear this.
And as your damp, sparkling eyes absently met his, he knew:
Distance be damned.
âYou are The Guardian. Anakin is forever tied to you. And you will always, always have the Order. Thousands of Jedi ready to stand by your side because of who you are,â he declared with unshakable conviction.
Until his orbs softened below shattered lips.
âSilvey,â he whispered pregnantly. âDrink in my words.â His fingers tightened around your own. âYou are not alone.â
And for a moment, Kenobi could note a subtle lift in your features. A slight lightening of your irises that indicated at least some partial unshackling of an invisible burden. A development that began to stitch closed the gaping crevice nestled within his sternum as it was reflected through the Force, stabilizing against your releasing shoulders and loosening throat.
Though your mind appeared to travel elsewhere.
Still, they were all gradual indications of your calming thoughts. Hints that whatever he was doing was mending something. And signs that first appeared when he touched your hand.
Another theory that added substance to the sealing emptiness Kenobi first experienced through the hall in what felt like eons ago.
So, he leaned into it, gracing his once stilled thumb across your palmâs supple skin as he, bit by bit, traced a messy oval to soothe your thoughts.
And it didnât take long for your continually calming presence to uncontrollably elicit the soft smile that gradually adorned his lips.
But, as soon as his gentle finger uncovered the aplomb to supply a deeper, more sustained motion of solidarity, it seemed, instantaneously, that this very transference snapped you out of whatever distance your mind had traveled with an unforeseen start.
Your suddenly surprised gape jumped out at Kenobi while a once relaxed hand instantly recoiled out of his own. Chiseling an equally confused expression across Obi-Wanâs face as his brows furrowed at you uneasily.
Still, that did little in forestalling your hurried launch to stand, all done in an effort to put a few strides between you and the bearded Jedi before crossing deeper into the dark shadows enveloping your quarters, a back of tattered robes separating you from Obi-Wanâs probing stare.
The older Jedi felt that hallowed void dilate within himself once more as he observed your sheltering arms fold into themselves, a familiar, throbbing pain emanating into the surrounding Force while he too promptly rose to his feet.
Especially as there was no denying that it was a feeling, Obi-Wan gathered, heâd somehow caused.
A myriad of thoughts swirled his mind as your quarters adopted that familiar aura of soundless reticence. One that rivaled the emptiness of its dimmed lightning that somehow felt far more barren with the presence of two beings blending into its grayed walls.
And the silence was deafening. Thunderous enough to fester a chest-displacing emotion Kenobi sometimes experienced, but knew no Jedi should long entertain.
Guilt.
âSilvey?â He questioned with indecisively parted lips, phonating barely above a whisper.
But you never spoke.
Instead, the Jedi Master received his answer from the tautening cross of your arms and intensifying dip of your head.
The clatter of heavy footsteps and low conversation echoed from the hall, cutting the still air like an endless barrage of saber swipes. Their passing din muffled by your quarterâs steel separation as Obi-Wan partially sensed the handful of clones retreat down the passagewayâs other end until their overlapping noise whispered into a distant memory.
And it was following that minor rattle, the long, interspaced stretches of pure stillness, and a timeless affair of observing your statued figure for any hint of an imparting thought, that the General reluctantly accepted the inevitable as pivoted on his heel toward the long gone entourage.
Although he now ambled toward the metal door, he only moved with stalling muscles, still in anticipation that heâd sense some shift, some indication of lightening impressions through the Force. At least, any idea that maybe, maybe youâd say something to him.
But once Obi-Wanâs fingers reached for the green-rimmed panel, releasing open the aperture with a whoosh, he began to come to grips with the fact that his presence would facilitate no locution, and, instead, only make things worse.
Stepping beyond the threshold, Kenobiâs eyes drifted to the side, as if to glance at your enigmatic figure staring out the viewport from far behind.
Though, despite the effort, he never dared to fully turn. Instead, Obi-Wan simply allowed his reluctant features to subdue against the throbbing remorse that struck through his mind like an unruly blaster spear as he murmured through uncertain lips one last time.
âIâm⊠Iâm sorry.â
A soft exhale, and the door hissed closed.

I think Livvy, Kit and Ty would enjoy to play Stardew Valley and genshin Impact together
idk about Genshin, I used to be a huge fan of the game but kind of grew out of it. I can't really imagine Ty being into Genshin with it's mostly story and action based gameplay, plus as someone with autism I often find the graphics to be overwhelming with bright colors and the insane amount of quests. Kit might be into it on some level, Livvy might love it a lot actually. They might play together sometimes tbh, but I think they would definitely love Stardew Valley more.
They would adore Stardew Valley though and since I'm an expert at Stardew Valley I'll give you a detailed headcanon on it :3
Beginning:
Ty would be reluctant to play at first but once he gives in they would have a hella lot of fun.
Livvy would definitely try to come up with a cute and cozy name for their farm like "Maple Wood Farm" while Ty would try to suggest something beautiful and poetic like "Elysian Acres Farm" with words that no one understands except for him. Eventually it would be Kit who would suggest something absolutely ridiculous and sarcastic like "Tragic Plot Farm" and they would agree on that.
Livvy would spend minutes perfecting her avatar to be the prettiest thing ever. Ty would just make himself with the most fitting options while Kit would add cool or funny customization items like sunglasses or an unnatural skin color.
Personal headcanons on their SDV Gameplay:
(Because I adore Stardew Valley and I've memorized the whole gameplaz by now)
Ty:
Ty would spend most of his time on the farm planting crops with a tight schedule so none of them dies when the new season comes, he would also take care of the animals and design their farm in the most productive way possible.
Creates a detailed spreadsheet for crop efficiency and spends hours planting everything perfectly.
He gets frustrated when Livvy accidentally tramples his crops or plants seeds haphazardly.
He cares deeply for the animals, giving each one a proper name, petting and feeding them daily. Heâd get especially attached to the rabbits and goats.
Keeps everything running smoothly with his careful planning. Heâd be the one to remind everyone to finish their quests.
Occasionally gets exasperated with Livvy and Kitâs antics but secretly enjoys their energy and jokes.
Ty meticulously organizes the chests by color and category, only for Livvy and Kit to throw random items in them. He eventually gives up and creates a "chaos chest" for them.
Ty awkwardly avoids interacting with people, focusing on winning the competitions.
Ty would adore Krobus and he would definitely make him live in his cabin. He wouldn't be interested in romancing any of the NPC's but would definitely pick Krobus as his platonic partner.
Ty finds the Junimos fascinating and views their role in the Community Center as a mystery to solve. He might even theorize about their lore outside of gameplay.
Ty deeply respects Linusâs choice to live outside of societal norms. He gives him gifts regularly and finds himself protective of Linus, even though itâs just a game.
Livvy:
Livvy would run around befriending every NPC in the game and trying to romance Sam.
Absolutely fearless in the mines, taking on waves of monsters with zero hesitation.
Sheâd get excited every time she finds a rare gem and rushes back to show Kit and Ty.
Constantly drags Kit into the caves, despite his protests, just to have company. Sheâd also challenge Ty to join, even if heâs reluctant..
Sheâs always pushing for them to do the most dangerous or ridiculous things, like tackling Skull Cavern unprepared or planting only starfruit for the fun of it.
Frequently sends funny in-game letters or items to Ty and Kit just to mess with them.
Livvy "accidentally" blows up part of the farm with a bomb she crafted for the mines. Ty panics, and Kit canât stop laughing.
She gets competitive about who can earn the most gold, often selling random things to win.
Livvy insists on entering every festival competition, from the Egg Hunt to the Grange Display, dragging Ty and Kit into it.
Livvy would definitely romance Sam or Leah.
Kit:
While Kit tries fishing, only to rage-quit after losing several fish in a row. Livvy makes fun of him for it, which makes him even more determined to succeed.
After a while he would just stick to foraging.
Heâd discover heart events accidentally and claim, "It just happened, I didnât plan this."
Kit is also the type of person who picks up random side quests and forgets about them, leaving Ty and Livvy to clean up the mess.
Claims heâs just there for fun, but secretly gets invested in his NPC relationships and side quests. Heâd surprise everyone by completing a bundle or discovering a hidden game feature
Also, omg he is the type of person to cheat his way through the game, like that chair trick to pass various obstacles.
Kit finally catches a legendary fish after hours of trying, only to lose it when he accidentally throws it back in the water. Livvy and Ty never let him live it down.
Kit flirts with every NPC during festivals, earning mixed reactions.
Kit tries to teach Ty how to catch rare fish, but Tyâs scientific approach backfires. "Iâve calculated the exact timing and trajectory," Ty says, only to lose the fish. Kit laughs so hard he nearly falls off the chair.
Ty struggles with gift-giving at first, overthinking every choice. Kit helps him figure it out, but not without some teasing: "No, Ty, nobody wants a pinecone as a gift."
Kit plays dirty at the Egg Festival mini game blocking Livvy's and Ty's path.
Kit would try to romance Sebastian, Shane or Haley. He has a huge fixing complex, okay?
Their Endgame Goals:
Ty: A fully upgraded, perfectly efficient farm with maxed-out animal happiness and organized storage. Basically a completed farm with full efficiency.
Livvy: Reaching the deepest level of the Skull Cavern and making the most gold. She'd probably want to build something crazy like a farm full of junimos.
Kit: Completing the community center, befriending every villager, and unlocking all heart events. Heâd also want to finish the secret quests, just to prove he could.

Mentions of neglect

Confusion and emotional crisis of course!
Aka. My excuse to explore customs and courting in my own au fdgdf
Also aka. Jason's autism rizz gets a whole dragon guy falling in love with him
Ao3 Link:
Jason was a mess.
He been laying on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. His thoughts seemed to be rushing around his head.
He been laying there for hours at this point, partly hiding from his father and stepmother, partly having a crisis.
âYou're kidding, right?â Nico,Jason's younger cousin, was leaning against the door with his arms crossed. âA dragon? Seriously?â
âI know!â Jason groaned, covering his face with his wings.
âWow.â Percy,Jason's older cousin, whistled. âHow did no one notice you sneaking out for, what, 3 months?â
Jason sighed, âI didn't have any lessons or important eventsâŠâ He said. âSo,I don't think anyone really cared to notice.â
âYou say that like people just not keeping tract of the literal crown prince just cause they don't need him is the most normal thing in the world.â Percy grumbled.
âIt'sâŠnot?â
â...Jason, buddy-â
âNot getting into your obvious situation of neglect- Jason, again,a dragon? How you even meet him? Was that the one they wanted you to take care of?â Nico asked, raising a brow.
âWell no- their his son..?â Jason laughed nervously.
âHis- Your telling me you were sent on a mission to push out a dragon from an nearby cave, but instead you befriended and now have fallen in love with his son?â
âIâŠMaybe?â
âDamn.â Percy said, âTalk about a wild way to enter teen rebellion.â
Nico groaned, âI'm no longer letting you guys make fun of me for Will.â
âYour crush turned out to be a fae prince,Neeks.â
âNot important right now.â Nico said quickly before looking back at Jason. âWhat are you gonna do about this now?â
âIgnore it and hopes it goes awayâŠ?â Jason laughed nervously.
âThe Nico route of having a crush I see.â
âJackson I swear,I will throw you out that window.â
Jason sighed, burrowing his face in his pillows
âThanks for the help guys. So encouraging.â He groaned, muffled by his pillow.
âLook, just tell him man.â Percy said. âCan't be that hard.â
Jason sat up, âI'm still not even sure if it's a crush! What if it's not? I might just be getting closer to him and just- I don't know.â Jason sighed. âI've never really had a friend like this before, how am I supposed to know what feelings are platonic or not?â
Percy and Nico looked at each other before back at Jason.
âYou're seriously not sure?â
âSeriously! I don't- I've never- I don't know. It's confusing!â Jason sighed, flopping back and curling up in his wings. âI don't want to ruin our friendship. He's just- he's so nice and funny. He doesn't look at me like I'm something else. It doesn't feel like he's pretending to enjoy my company. I feel like I can be myself around him.âJason said softly, he felt like his mind was flying fifty miles a minute.
âYeah. That sounds like a crush dude.â
âDoes it..?â Jason frowned. He wasn't sure, he never was good knowing exactly what having a crush was supposed to be like. Even though he heard it time and time again from his cousins,it never sounded too far off from platonic feelings to him. Really, the idea of dating always just sounded like a premium version of being close friends. He never quite knew the difference.
Which made what he was going through right now even more confusing. He really didn't know what he was feeling, and it scared him.
âI mean, you've been having a freak out all day thinking about him. So yeah, I say so.â Nico snorted.
âJust tell him, man.â Percy said. âJust say how you're feeling. Better than letting it build up, right?â
âBut I don't know how I'm feeling!â Jason complained.
âJust try, explain what you do know. Can't end that badly if he's how you describe!â Percy grinned.
âI guessâŠâ Jason sighed. He still wasn't sure. âI'm still not sure.â
Jason really didn't want to ruin what they did have. Leo was so kind to him. He made things so much easier to deal with. Jason was one of the only fae in his family. Something he got from their grandmother. For some reason, his father didn't want others to know. Really, his father cared too much for his image. He liked to still seem in control of his kingdom and situation,so any sentient being other than human or sorcerer was banned from Olympus.
To find someone else not at all human or sorcerer, who he felt like he could talk to without feeling like he was pushing weight off his problems onto, felt great. To be with someone who'd see his wings and tail and not either scorn or pity him for it? It was a relief.
What if having and admitting to a crush changed that?
âOkay, but there's another problem.â Nico said, pulling Jason from his thoughts. âWhat if you get caught seeing him? Surely they'd get suspicious at some point.â
Jason stiffened up,anxiety hit him like a boulder.
âI-I don't know. I hope they won't..maybe it'll just be them catching me sneaking out and I can make enough of an excuse that won't expose Leo.â
âYouâll still get in trouble dude. And you know weâre not here enough to bail you out.â Percy said.
âI know. They'll probably just have me on quarters arrest or something, maybe clip my feathers. I'll be fine.â Jason said softly. âI'll just make sure that I can't be followed. That's what's important.â
âYour safety is important too, Grace.â Nico said, frowning.
âI know. I'll be fine. I justâŠyeah, maybe I should at least try to bring this up to him. I'm just not sure howâŠâ
âDo what feels right, you'll know it.â Percy grinned.
The next time Jason went to see Leo, he was a nervous wreck.
Managing to sneak out of the castle grounds, wearing nothing but a simple blouse under shirt and slacks that allowed him to have his tail and wings out. Something that still felt odd to do when not on his own in his room.
He flew off in his small form, able to move without easily being spotted on the sky.
His flying was atrocious, even after three months of doing this regularly, but he managed to get to their usual spot without much issue. Turning back to his common form once he was there, landing messily on his feet.
âOkay.â He breathed, talking to himself. âAlright. Good. You got this.â
Jason had a few days to think about what he really wanted to say to Leo about what's been going through his head.
Despite that, the only thing he really could clearly think about was bringing a gift of some sort. A warm orange-brownish gem he found that reminded Jason of Leo's eyes. He wasn't sure why it called to him to bring it, it felt almost instinctive when he saw it, but he thought he wouldn't hurt.
He perked up when he heard movement in the trees. Looking up at the branches, before seeing a pair of familiar ember brown eyes. He felt a flutter in his chest, like he was still flying.
âAnd the feathered prince arrives! Sup, sparky!â Leo laughed as he jumped down from the tree he was hiding in, landing right in front of Jason. âThought you might not been able to come tonight!â
Jason smiled, âI managed. Had to make sure I wasn't caught and all. Oh- and I-uh- got you this?â
Jason nervously handed him the gem, anxiety pricked at him. Scared Leo would find it weird.
Leo looked confused at first, the dragon tilting his head a bit.
âA gift-? Oh, man thanks- but I didn't get you anythi-â
âNo. No need.â Jason said. âJust saw it and thought of you I guess.â He blurted out without thinking. âWell, I'm mean-â
Leo's blinked at him, seeming shocked, before chuckling.
âAww~ You think of me!â Leo said playfully, his smirk was almost enough to make Jason melt.
âOh- Yeah- I mean- you've been very kind to me, so- thought I get something.â Jason rubbed the back of his neck.
Leo smiled.
âWell thank you very much,Sparks.â He chuckled, pocketing the gem.âSooo, how's castle life going?â
Jason smiled back, âNothing new, really.â He shrugged. âCousinsâ been over, that's usually chaotic in itselfâŠwhat about you?â He said quickly, not wanting to get into his home life too much.
âEeh,same ole same ole. Dad and Aglaea are away finding scrap for another of dad's projects,so Jake's in charge.â He shrugged. âHe can be pretty serious about it, we have to remind him not to push himself all the time.â Leo rolled his eyes.
Jason managed a soft chuckle, he always liked hearing about Leo's family. Leo had such a close bond with his siblings.
They sat and talked like they did every time, Jason mostly listening as he really wasn't use to actually telling others about himself to begin with. Leo seemed genuinely interested in learning about him though, which was new to Jason.
He was used to nobles who liked to up themselves up to him. Leo wasn't that.
âSo, like, no offense dude- but how often you preen your wings?â Leo was now hanging off a branch, his tail curled around it to keep him from falling on his head.
âI'm sorry?â Jason frowned.
âLike, you know, clean out molts and such- that's what preening is right? Only a couple of my siblings have feathers.â Leo shrugged as he swung on the branch he hung from.
âI-uh-i don't know. Why?â
Leo stopped, âYou don't know?â He frowned.
âI mean- I try to get it when I'm cleaning I guess? It ain't have my wings out during the day, so-â
âDude, no wonder you always look in pain. You're just asking for cramps!â
Jason blinked, he did have cramps on his wings but he learned to ignore it. It wasn't like he had much of a choice.
âI guess. I justâŠkinda do what I can to keep them healthy,I don't really know for sure how often I should be doing so.â
âWait, really?â Leo tilting his head. âNo one taught you?â
Jason shook his head, âNot reallyâŠmy family's mostly sorcerers.â
âDam.â Leo got down from the branch. âEven dad taught us how to deal with the shedding season.â He shrugged, before plopping down next to Jason.
âYeah, well, just never really was taught. Even my governess only was allowed to teach me the basics. I think she wanted to teach me more about fae butâŠwell, father forbade it.â Jason sighed. Lupa really was the only one who actively taught him anything he felt was important.
âWhat a jerk- or uh, no offense- I know he's your father and all, but good lords.â Leo snorted. âI can help with preening at some point, if you want.â He said before suddenly stuttering. âI-Well-I mean if you need the help- just get you getting better at it and such and- uh-â
Jason felt his face flush, he didn't know why the offer made him so flustered.
âI- sure, yeah- that would be nice.â He breathed. âThank you.â
âRight. Yeah. Cool.â Leo nodded. âOf course.â
â â â â â â â
By the time that reached the end of the night, and Jason was off again, Leo's head was racing.
Well, it was always racing, but even more than usual now.
He slipped back into the cave, flopping down into his part of the nest and groaning.
âDamn. That bad?â Leo's older brother, Jake, said as he sat down beside Leo.
Leo looked up at his brother and pouted.
âI offered to help with preening-â
âYou what?â
â-And he said yes.â Leo groaned. âWhat was I thinking?â
âHe said yes??â Jake scoffed. âOh he definitely likes you.â
Leo sat up, âHe might not know allopreening and such is usually seen for family and partners! Poor guy isn't even allowed to stretch his wings out most of the time! Lords, you should see him flying!â Leo sighed. âThe offer just slipped out,I didn't even think about it, I definitely didn't think he'd agree to it!â
âOkay. Even without social views of allopreening,I think he'd at least have a personal feeling about it being for people you're comfortable with.â Jake said.
Leo sighed, âI guess- and, lords- he gave me a gem-â
âA gem??â Jake's mouth went agape.
Leo nodded, taking it out of his pocket and showing him. âHe said he saw it and thought of me- what am I supposed to do with that??â
Gifting gems and such was often part of dragon flirting customs, surely Jason hadn't known though. Right?
âOh he has it bad.â Jake said.
âHe probably didn't think anything of it-â
âLeo, he picked up a gem because it reminded him of you and accepted an offer to allopreening.â Jake sighed. âHe's like one step away from nesting at this point. I can't believe you managed to get a crown prince to fall for you, a storm fae at that, and yet your self esteem is still at rock bottom.â He shook his head. âJust ask him out.â
Leo fell back into the nest, âWhat if he says no? Then I've made it awkward. I'm still processing I find him hot!â
Leo covered his face with his hands. Jason was definitely out of his league anyway.
Jake rubbed his eyes, âYou are more of a demisexual disaster then my own boyfriend, dear lords, is this how Lee and Charles felt?â He grumbled to himself.
âHey-!â
âHe obviously cares about you.â Jake went on, âEven if he really turns out to not like you back, I doubt he'd hate you for it. If anything he's more likely to think you hate him if you start avoiding the topic or thinking about it.â
Leo sighed, flopping his arms out beside him.
âYeah, yeah guess you're right.â
âOf course I am, I'm your big brother.â Jake chuckled ruffling his hair.
âCome on!â He complained,ânot the hair! It's already a mess to fix with nest head!â
Both chuckle, before Jake got up,offering a hand to Leo to help.
âCome on. Let's go hunting for everyone. Past dinner anyway, Harley might start chewing on Christopher if he's not fed soon.â
âOh Lords, I could hear the fussing already!â Leo laughed, he was thankful for Jake tugging him out and on his feet. Why he wasn't great at hunting, he often did the cooking of everything. It helped him to do something active.
As much as he hated to admit, Jake was probably right. He just needed to yank the dagger out. Even if the thought scared him,at least it would be better than having a crisis everytime Jason Grace even smiled at him.
Lords, Leo really was a mess.

Hii english is not my first language so sorry for any mistakes. Can i get a matchup for Tokyo Debunker and Twisted Wonderland? Im not sure if you do two fandoms in a matchup if you dont please do only Tokyo Debunker.
Appearance: Im 5'4 INFJ 4w6 with short wavy bkack hair, brown eyes, and have glasses. Outfit wise i tend to wear something comfortabke and casual most of the time but im branching out to streetwear and both dark and light academia.
Personality: I tend to be quiet most of the time so i may come across shy or even intimidating. But once you start to talk to me im rather easy going and as friendship progresses i get more loud and witty with the ppl i like and show my affection through tough love. Although i am easy going but i dont take nonsense. But i dont like confrontations and arguments so if the time calls for it i will remain calm and wont let things escalate, for the most part.
Likes and hobbies: I like playing mobile games, watching anime, drawing, writing and reading. I am pursuing literature in academics so im always curious about history, philosphies and stories even though exams make me regret it. I also like cheese dishes, cute stuff and animals especially cats, and sleeping (its just nice feeling comfy).
Dislikes: I dont like loud noises, sudden happenings, and forced formalities between people which is the reason why i have a small group of friends but we are all very close. I also dont like reptiles and amphibians they make my skin itch.
Some other facts: Im a bit meticulous as in i keep my home organized and clean. Its to the point where i have specific clothes for wearing outside and inside and specific furniture i would sit on with outside clothes on. So im probably a lil ocd. Im also dealing with depression so im currently really trying to get back to all my hobbies and stop doing nothing productive as it makes me feel bad.
What i look for in a partner: I have severe trust issues so the first thing is if i can somewhat trust my partner to be comfortable around him to show my true nature. I would also prefer someone who is not overly loud. Because of my trust issues im a bit insecure so i would be constantly quietly analyzing my partner for any slip ups or lies so it would be nice to have someone transparent or someone who is similar to me. I also enjoy talking about deep topics so it would be nice to have someone who can also share their own thoughts and insights. I definately would like me and my partner to before starting a relationship lay down in front of each other what we want in our relationship so communication is very crucial to me. I dont show publicly much physical affection, i only do that privately so i would like a guy who respects that.
I think that's all and its hopefully enough information. Thank you so much for your work <3
It seems to me, you've captured the heart of...
Jin Kamurai!
Let's be real, this relationship will be a hella slow burn, but I assure you, it will be worth it. You did not appreciate being used as a servant, and that kind of surprised him. He may have been slightly annoyed at first, but still intrigued. Jin will have to set aside his pride to get to know you better, and you would need to let your guard down a bit. And when you do, he will so down bad for you. He wouldn't know when it happened, but it happened. And who could blame him?
Your quiet nature is definitely a step up from the yappers he would overhear in Frostheim when he'd deign to exit his chambers. He also appreciates how well read you are, so he'd love to have deep conversations with you. He's also pretty well-read on a lot of art as someone who comes from money, so he'd be more than happy to share insights on whatever you like.
Though it may not seem like it at first glance, he's quite emotionally vulnerable, so your empathy and tough love would really benefit him. Of course, that's not to say you'd be a therapist (he can pay for one), more so a part of his much-needed support system. A friend in need is a friend indeed. He would also be there for you if you're struggling with your mental health. He'd help you find a therapist while being your rock as well.
Jin would respect your boundaries, seeing as you like a clean space, so he'd ask Tohma to clean up after him. He also understands you like to give and receive affection in private. He does as well, so any cuddles, kisses, whatever will happen in the confines of his chambers.
So if you give this relationship time to marinate, this can bloom into something beautiful
........................................................
You have also captured the heart of...
Azul Ashengrotto!
Hear me out: even if he is cunning, he does have a level of integrity he must uphold as a business owner. That aside, he greatly values trust and loyalty in close relationships, so once he's seen you're trustworthy and he can be vulnerable around you, he would be a devoted partner.
Azul is highly intelligent and well-read, which makes him a great conversationalist for discussing history, philosophy, or stories. Heâd love to share ideas with you.
While he can be a bit dramatic in business scenarios, Azul is not overly loud in personal settings and respects boundaries, making him compatible with your preference for calmness and respect for physical affection. And he'd appreciate how meticulous you are and your eye for detail, as he likes structure and order also.
Azul knows all too well about mental struggles, so when you feel comfortable enough in your relationship, he'd do anything to help ease that. He can set aside some money for a therapist but he'll still be your rock. And since you're so empathetic, he'll appreciate you being there for him.
This relationship is gonna take some patience for it to bloom into something beautiful, and when it does, it will be totally worth it.
