It’s funny cause I celebrate Christmas despite not being Christian. I’m agnostic but spiritual lol. My religion more leans on the lines of being pagan. I just kinda throw shit together tbh.

As a Pagan, I celebrate Yuletide, and am doing so on the 25th as it's the day the rest of my family celebrates, although I did partake in my own Yuletide celebrations on the day of the solstice

Chag Chanukah from Marlinspike Hall! Haddock doesn't understand how he's so bad at a game that's purely chance based. When Calculus tried to explain the probability to him, it only stressed him out more.

I headcanon Professor Calculus as Jewish, inspired by @aboardthescheherazade 's take on him. I like to think of Marlinspike Hall as a place of cultural exchange. If you think about it, Tintin is the only Belgian living there (Haddock and Nestor are British, and Calculus is from Syldavia)!

Happle Hanukkah from Massachusetts to those who celebrate!

POTATO LATKES

2.5 lb baking potatoes, russet; ~4 potatoes

2 eggs

1 tsp salt

2 tbsp matzah meal

1 onion (small pieces)

1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)

ground black pepper

extra virgin olive oil or safflower oil for frying (olive oil is more traditional, but some prefer the milder flavor of safflower)

in one bowl, beat egg, lemon juice, matzah meal, salt & pepper.

Grate potatoes, squeeze out extra liquid (in sieve), mix in onions & the egg mixture in large bowl.

heat olive (or safflower) oil: quarter to 1/8 inch in skillet (test if a little potato sizzles)

flatten tbsp of latke

when you see the edges are brown, turn it & fry the other side

place in layers with paper towels between each layer to cool a little

serve with sour cream for dipping (or applesauce I GUESS)

Happy 8th night of Hanukkah! Tonight is a wrap on the holiday. Also happy new years! I did manage to make my experimental half-brussels sprouts latkes last night, despite being sick right through the whole holiday season. Thanks for following along with me and I hope I shared a little light!
