If it helps to any degree: one conversation I had freshman year of art school with my prof and class is that there’s likely no One Real version of you. Theyre all equally as real.
The way I put it best is that certain situations are gonna make you amplify certain traits of yourself. Specifically we were talking professional settings/interview. Professional Me tones down dirty jokes and swearings and ups the analytical and personable parts because it’s what the environment calls for, not because I’m squashing down parts of myself. Friend Me changes based on which friends I’m with, and Internet Me is largely a stream of consciousness but omits personal details these days.
They’re all obviously Me. Just Me in different environments. Humans not only grow constantly and will change over the years, but also adapts to each environment we’re in. It’s perfectly normal. The human experience and being is quite complexed and nuanced in that way.
For some people the change might be very noticeable for others, it’s merely a change in vocabulary and not much else. Both are valid.
Being authentic just means you’re in control of what traits your amplifying depending on your environment. So you’re right, there is authenticity in your internet self being Not Today With This.
yeah, for sure — this is definitely something i think as well. i guess the thing i worry abt is less thinking there's one single Real Me who i want to show to everyone all the time, but more of a... proximity thing? like worrying that, even if it's for a good reason, i've shaved so much off the identity that shows thru online, or made it so distant, that i must not look like much of anything to anyone anymore.
(and at the same time, ironically, sometimes i fantasize about even MORE of that — i look at the accounts of ppl who post literally Nothing but finished art pieces and never ever talk and wonder what it would be like to go back in time and have that kind of presence instead, lol. i don't think i would Actually like it, but, y'know.)
but actually typing this out made me realize a kind of innate bias of my own? 'reserved' and 'distant' are personality traits on their own, not the absense of personality. the fact that i've withdrawn a little IS part of who i am, not like, an erosion of my identity. bigger/louder/more present are not the only methods by which ppl will be able to tell what kind of guy i am. so that's cool to think about too

- The Reality of Virgo -
----------------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
for once in my life i will be yapping positively about an earth sign so i hope y'all enjoy this- also small disclaimer im tired as hell today so if this doesn't make sense that's my bad 😔
OK SO.
virgo!!! the mercury ruled earth sign. Or is it. 🤨.
a while ago my mom and i were talking abt astrology stuff and we had a realization about what virgo actually is, and she thought it made more sense for it to be ruled by mercury and for some reason i just Did Not agree with virgo being ruled by mercury
and i couldn't figure out why until it dawned on me like 2 days ago now- mind u i was not actively thinking about it the whole time, that conversation with my mom was months ago now, it just marinated in my head for so long that it finally came back up in an AHA moment 🫡
you can tell my mercury is in the 12th house tbh- Which i have lore on that too But virgo first!!!!!
Tumblr media
so let's start with methods of pulling a chart, and trust me this'll make sense later.
there's 2 methods of pulling a chart, the most common one being geocentric, meaning the position of the planets is calculated from our perspective of them here on earth
geocentric is how we get our ascendant and our sun sign, virtually every natal chart uses the geocentric system.
the significantly less used, but still valid system, is heliocentric- meaning the planets are calculated from the sun's point of view instead of the earth's.
heliocentric pretty dramatically changes the placement of planets like the moon, mercury, venus, and mars, the outer planets are changed by a matter of degrees
However in a heliocentric chart, you don't have a sun sign anymore, you have an earth sign.
to save u some time too, your earth placement is exact opposite your sun placement, and the moon is conjunct earth within a matter of minutes- so sun in 29° taurus has earth and moon in 29° scorpio
NOW why do i bring up these two?
im glad u asked 😎
Fuck i hit the wrong button-
Tumblr media
so we all know virgo to be very precise, analytical and detail-oriented- We also know the 6th house to be the house of employment and health and stuff- what if i told u........... i have a different take....... a twisted one if u will.... a twisted astrology tak-
this precision and analysis of virgo is what makes everyone point to mercury, but mercury to me is way too playful and energetic for a sign like virgo
virgo is much more down to earth...... almost as if it was........ ruled by earth......... 🤨.......
And i know what ur gonna say, "so every earth sign is ruled by earth?" NO!
ill get into why i think virgo is ruled by earth in a sec But lemme differentiate first-
capricorn is saturn-ruled, it wants to become more than itself, so it leaves earth behind
taurus is venus-ruled, it wants to use earth's resources (more on this in a sec) to create ease and comfort, and damages earth in the long run (kinda like humanity has tbh 😕)
notice however that the other two earth signs are still earthbound in a way- they still deal with it, but they aren't ruled by it
.... HEAD TRIPPPPP FOR THE MORTAL EARTHBOUNDDDDD ONE SIPPPP OF THE BLOOD THAT I FOUNDDDD LY Y Y Y Y YY Y I N GGG HE R E E EE E E-
Anyway-
Tumblr media
so virgo is known as the virgin or the maiden, and is associated with wheat and the harvest- I take this to mean it's a sign with plenty of resources, and what planet in our system has a surplus of resources perfect for the formation of life???? E a r t h.
virgo's resources are dedicated to creating and understanding reality, and earth is our reality.
so the 6th house, your virgo placements and your earth placement can all be used to figure out the kind of filter you view reality through
"but how do i know my earth placement if heliocentric doesnt have an ascendant?" just take ur geocentric ascendant and ur geocentric placements and Add the heliocentric placements to it-
so if ur a cap rising with a gemini earth, your earth is in your 6th house
im always an advocate for bridging the gap when it comes to chart pulling methods- cross-reference and find what makes the most sense for you
Tumblr media
so that's abt it i think- i 100% believe virgo is ruled by our home planet, mutable earth just makes sense in my opinion, and mercury is way too energetic for a sign like virgo (no shade, that's just not the vibe i get from virgo, at least not in the same way as gemini 😵‍💫)
take this how u will but go find ur earth placement and study it bc it's interesting and personally for me, opened up a whole new realm of my chart that made sense as fuck so 💪💪💪💪
thank u for reading n for more on this, i wrote an actual newsletter that goes more in detail and is better written than this tbh so 🫡🫡
The Reality of Virgo - newsletter by me 🥳

Character Development Meme!
📚「 @iruludavare 」 sent:
20. In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?
Cheren is always comparing himself to anyone he's observed enough, and this is usually in an analytical sort of way (unless he's seen something he personally resonates with, which is not uncommon). Thankfully, he's not the sort to do this for the sake of putting himself down. Rather, he is always eager to learn something from the people he encounters.
Most of this is for the sake of being a better trainer, as that is his main interest. The ways people battle, the way they treat their pokemon, the way they go about training... There's always a different way to go about these things, and he gets a great amount of joy if he can apply what he sees to his own methods!
27. How does your character normally deal with confrontation?
Head on, chin up, in most cases, all with a keen eye that could make a watchog jealous. Cheren is self-assured enough not to back down from any sort of battle he reasonably thinks he can handle, and he is not afraid to speak up when he needs to.
That being said, he's never going to be the one throwing the first blow, and he'd especially like to avoid getting into trouble before knowing what he's getting into. He'll pick his battles carefully, but you can rest assured he will see them through.
31. Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable.
A quiet afternoon in the silent company of people he trusts... preferably with no deadlines for tasks looming overhead. He doesn't need all that much to be content, and being able to sit quietly with someone without any awkwardness is his favorite kind of quality time.

Developing Critical Thinking Skills to Navigate Today’s World
Tumblr media
In today’s rapidly evolving world, the ability to think critically has never been more important. We live in an age where information is abundant, but not all of it is reliable. The ability to sift through the noise, discern truth from fiction, and make informed decisions is a skill that can empower individuals to navigate the complexities of modern life with confidence. This blog post will explore the vital role of critical thinking and provide practical strategies to cultivate this essential skill.
Understanding Critical Thinking
What is Critical Thinking?
Critical thinking is the ability to analyze information objectively, evaluate different perspectives, and make reasoned judgments. It involves questioning assumptions, examining evidence, and thinking logically and systematically. In a world where we’re constantly bombarded with information from various sources, critical thinking allows us to navigate through the clutter and arrive at conclusions that are based on facts, not just opinions.
Why Critical Thinking is More Important Than Ever
The digital age has brought with it an unprecedented flow of information. Social media, news outlets, blogs, and forums are just a few of the places where we encounter ideas, opinions, and claims. However, not all of this information is accurate or even truthful. Misinformation and disinformation have become pervasive, making it difficult to separate fact from fiction. Critical thinking is our defense against being misled. It enables us to question the validity of the information we encounter, identify biases, and make decisions that are informed and rational.
Developing Critical Thinking Skills
Cultivating Curiosity
One of the first steps in developing critical thinking is cultivating a mindset of curiosity. Curiosity drives us to ask questions, seek out diverse perspectives, and continuously learn. When we approach information with curiosity, we’re less likely to accept it at face value and more likely to dig deeper to understand the underlying truths. Encourage yourself to ask questions like, "Why is this the case?" or "What evidence supports this claim?" Curiosity is the fuel that powers critical thinking.
First Principles Thinking
A powerful tool for enhancing critical thinking is first principles thinking. This method of reasoning involves breaking down complex problems into their most basic, foundational truths, and then building up from there. Instead of relying on analogies or conventional wisdom, first principles thinking encourages us to question everything and reconstruct our understanding from the ground up.
Step 1: Identify and Define the Problem: Start by clearly defining the problem or question at hand.
Step 2: Break Down the Problem: Deconstruct the problem into its most basic components. What do you know to be true at the most fundamental level?
Step 3: Build Up from the Ground: Use these basic truths as the foundation to reconstruct your understanding or find a solution, free from preconceived notions or biases.
For example, in the world of technology, Elon Musk has famously used first principles thinking to innovate in fields like space exploration and electric vehicles. By questioning existing assumptions and focusing on fundamental truths, he has been able to develop groundbreaking solutions that defy conventional wisdom.
Practicing Analytical Thinking
Critical thinking also involves analytical thinking, which is the ability to break down complex information into manageable parts, identify patterns, and make logical connections. To practice analytical thinking, start by examining the main arguments in any given situation. Look at the evidence presented, consider alternative perspectives, and weigh the strengths and weaknesses of each point. Analytical thinking allows you to approach problems methodically and arrive at well-reasoned conclusions.
Strengthening Problem-Solving Abilities
Effective critical thinkers are also strong problem solvers. They approach problems methodically, consider multiple solutions, and reflect on past experiences to guide their decision-making. When faced with a problem, break it down into smaller parts, explore different avenues for solving it, and don’t be afraid to experiment with unconventional solutions. The ability to solve problems creatively and effectively is a key component of critical thinking.
Avoiding Cognitive Biases
Cognitive biases are mental shortcuts that can distort our thinking and lead to errors in judgment. Common biases include confirmation bias (favoring information that confirms our preexisting beliefs) and anchoring (relying too heavily on the first piece of information we encounter). To become a better critical thinker, it’s important to recognize these biases and actively work to overcome them. This involves challenging your assumptions, seeking out opposing viewpoints, and being open to changing your mind when presented with new evidence.
Applying Critical Thinking in Today’s World
Navigating the Financial Landscape
One of the most practical applications of critical thinking is in the realm of personal finance. The financial landscape is complex and ever-changing, with countless options for investing, saving, and spending. By applying critical thinking, you can make smarter financial decisions that align with your long-term goals. For example, when considering an investment in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, critical thinking will help you assess the risks and rewards, evaluate the credibility of the sources providing information, and avoid falling for hype or fear.
Evaluating News and Information
In a world where fake news and misinformation are rampant, critical thinking is essential for evaluating the reliability of the information we consume. To critically assess news sources, consider the credibility of the publication, the qualifications of the author, and the evidence supporting the claims made. Look out for sensationalism, clickbait headlines, and unverified information. By being discerning about the information we consume, we can protect ourselves from being misled and make better-informed decisions.
Making Informed Choices
Critical thinking isn’t just about evaluating information; it’s also about making informed choices in all areas of life. Whether you’re deciding on a career path, a major purchase, or a health-related issue, critical thinking will help you weigh the pros and cons, consider alternative options, and make decisions that are aligned with your values and goals. In an increasingly complex world, the ability to think critically and make informed choices is a powerful asset.
The Benefits of Becoming a Critical Thinker
Empowerment and Independence
One of the most significant benefits of developing critical thinking skills is the sense of empowerment and independence it brings. Critical thinkers are not easily swayed by external pressures or popular opinion. They are confident in their ability to analyze situations, make decisions, and take action based on their own reasoned judgments. This independence allows critical thinkers to live more authentic lives, guided by their own principles and values.
Improved Decision-Making
Critical thinkers tend to make better decisions because they approach problems systematically and consider all relevant factors. Whether in personal finance, career choices, or everyday decisions, critical thinking leads to outcomes that are more thoughtful, informed, and aligned with long-term goals. The ability to make sound decisions is a key factor in achieving success and fulfillment in life.
Adaptability in a Changing World
The world is changing rapidly, and those who can think critically are better equipped to adapt to new challenges and opportunities. Critical thinkers are open to new ideas, willing to question the status quo, and able to navigate uncertainty with confidence. In a world that is increasingly complex and unpredictable, the ability to think critically is a crucial skill for staying resilient and thriving in the face of change.
Conclusion
In conclusion, developing critical thinking skills is essential for navigating the complexities of today’s world. By cultivating curiosity, practicing first principles thinking, strengthening analytical and problem-solving abilities, and avoiding cognitive biases, you can become a more effective and empowered thinker. The benefits of critical thinking extend far beyond individual decisions; they empower you to live a more informed, independent, and fulfilling life. Start developing your critical thinking skills today and embrace the power of reasoned judgment to transform your life and the world around you.

What do you think Lou Bloom’s zodiac sign is?
hi!!! i'm assuming this is the same person who sent the detective loki question so i'll spare the i-know-nothing-about-zodiac monologue!!!
I googled it and this website suggests he is "an unhealthy" Scorpio. They also add this: "As a Scorpio zodiac sign, Louis Bloom is full of passion and embraces challenges in all areas of his life. This fire can be taken to the extreme though and he can become angry or hostile when he doesn’t get what he wants. People of the Scorpio zodiac sign can also be manipulative." Allure says this about Scorpios: "What makes this water sign unique is its distinctive venomous sting. Like their celestial animal representation, the scorpion, Scorpios lie in wait and strike when least expected. Life is a game of chess for these calculating water signs, who are constantly plotting several steps ahead in order to orchestrate an eventual checkmate." This article brings up the concept of venom often, which made me think of a trivia element mentioned on Lou's villain wiki page. It says: "During an interview, director Dan Gilroy said he views Lou's evilness as an 'infection' that spreads to every character Lou interacts with throughout the film. At the end of the movie, where Lou's company vans split up on different streets, Gilroy described the scene as 'the infection spreading through the veins of the city'."
i mean, based off that, i have to agree. i like to think that all the jake characters have a virgo placement somewhere so i can feel validated but we'll never know!
thank you for the ask! once again, i'm sorry that i'm the least knowledgeable person when it comes to astrology (and, well, almost everything). i'd be curious to know if other people who are well-versed in the zodiac signs would agree! i'd be especially curious to know what lou thinks about astrology!!! what i would give to have a conversation with jake's characters! (and more obviously, but shh details).
i also looked up, for funsies, a chart that categorizes american serial killers based off their zodiac signs. i know lou is not a serial killer but it's still some neat information. according to this page, cancer, pisces, sagittarius and scorpios count the most serial killers out of all the zodiac signs (but capricorn seems to be the sign associated with the killers with the most victims). i'm truly disappointed with virgos, i thought we'd rank higher! aren't we supposed to be analytical and methodical and practical and everything? i wouldn't know since i'm a virgo scam but like come on, these are useful characteristics. anyway, interesting.

FULL NAME orson montgomery lloyd GENDER / PRONOUNS cis man / he + him AGE / BIRTHDAY thirty-five / september 17th OCCUPATION funeral director at lloyd family funeral home AFFILIATION / ROLE hanging man / capo ORIENTATION / STATUS demisexual / single STRENGTHS meticulous + analytical + controlled WEAKNESSES cold + judgmental + remorseless
HISTORY.
tw: gore, death, mildly graphic depictions of autopsy
here's the thing about orson lloyd : HE'S AN OPPORTUNIST . he always has been. and the q u i e t ones ? well, they always get the MOST opportunities, don't they ? he might have been raised modest, raised humble — a fact that manifests still now in mild manners and a softer, slower cadence of speech ( he likes to take his t i m e, speak with precision and clarity ) — but orson has always craved more. he's always longed for MORE. as a child, orson roams the crowded pews of his family's chapel, spindly legs weaving between weeping widows and wailing parents. watching. observing. NEVER INTERACTING ! he learns at a young age that his parents are in the business of DEATH and that to be in such a business is a very careful thing indeed. their clients are wrought with very real, very VOLATILE and very DISTRACTING emotions, and so orson treads with care and caution. he uses delicate CARE in making sure his hands go unnoticed as they slip into the pockets and the purses of the mourning middle class ; and when he leaves ? he practices only extreme CAUTION as he exits, unnoticed, to the safe haven of a locked office door. these TRINKETS he collects, they're not what he truly desires, but they provide a DISTRACTION. from what ?
orson discovers the answer to that question at the age of twelve. it's the first time his father allows him to sit in the PREPARATION ROOM while he performs the embalming process on a body. he clutches his chair in a w h i t e - k n u c k l e d grasp and watches with eager curiosity as the scalpel makes its first neat, steady incision. ( over the years, the elder lloyd's hands will grow SHAKIER and orson will have to clench his fists at his sides until knuckles are once again DRAINED of blood as he watches his father FUMBLE not only a blade but a very delicate procedure. ) he can still vividly remember his reaction to the sight. VISCERAL — like every fibre of his being suddenly ELECTRIFIED. in a singular moment, a boy has realized his calling. and he quickly becomes OBSESSED ; sitting in on every body preparation he can, poring over the labels for various chemicals and preservatives and scribbling notes onto any scrap of paper he can. by fourteen, he's memorized the details of every procedure so that on his next birthday, his father might offer him the greatest gift : the opportunity to PRACTICE. to perform. he just knows he can do it. and, more than that, he can do it WELL.
and to his credit, orson lloyd is NOT wrong. in fact, if anything, he's p r o d i g i o u s. surgical precision would appear an inherent skill, and a PATIENT and METHODICAL technique promises consistent perfection. the clients are pleased. business is BOOMING, insofar as their business can, anyway. ( is his father pleased ? would he care for the answer either way ? it's no longer VALIDATION the young lloyd seeks out. ) he grows into the role upon graduating from university, taking up full - time residence at the lloyd family funeral home alongside his parents. it's only then that he discovers the business's FAULTS. and to their credit, it's truly through none of their own ; after all, not everyone has so keen an eye for OPPORTUNITY as orson, and he cannot fault them for lacking the wisdom to MOURN that of which they're unaware. but orson ? oh, he is acutely aware of all of the possibilities ; he might be ELBOW-DEEP in the thoracic cavity of a cadaver, but he's kept his ear close to the DARK UNDERBELLY of the city. he's not ignorant to what goes on behind closed doors, under cover of night. there's profit to be gained for ALL parties involved.
there is an unsettling air of MYSTERY surrounding orson lloyd's inheritance of his family's funeral home and crematorium. the general consensus is that both of his parents DIED, but the cause behind their passing is a source of significant speculation — was it old age ? illness ? a tragic accident ? whatever the cause, orson handles it as he does most things : QUIETLY. no obituaries are published and, perhaps more strangely, no public funeral service is offered. at twenty-five years old, he is the sole owner and operator of the funeral home. oddly enough, he almost seems PREPARED for the role. but there is no p r a c t i c i n g before he approaches hanging man with a PROPOSITION. there's no need. ( he's been thinking about this for years. ) by day, he provides mortuary and funeral services to the community of queens ; by NIGHT, he's dissecting cadavers piled at his doorstep by ASSASSINS like gifts from eager street cats before effectively DESTROYING their remains.
and it is DISSECTING, isn't it ? because orson never just BURNS the bodies. one might say he has an affinity for playing with them, but that's just NOT TRUE, is it ? it's not PLAYING if it has PURPOSE. and it does. there's a market for all these spare parts he's meant to dispose of, and orson is an e n t r e p r e n e u r ! more than that, he isn't WASTEFUL. ( if he derives his own personal enjoyment from the deconstruction of cadavers, well, you know what they say ! love your job and you'll never work a day in your life. and his souvenirs, well, he'll kindly remind you they're HIS OWN FUCKING BUSINESS, thank you. ) these days, it's rare to catch orson outside the walls of the funeral home, far too often busy with his work to leave unless his presence is REQUIRED elsewhere. he seldom sleeps, fueled instead by a near constant supply of CAFFEINE & NICOTINE. ( it's a wonder his hands are still so steady ! ) and should you happen to turn up at his doorstep and you're NOT dead, surely an unusual encounter awaits you.
CONNECTIONS.

What Are ESG Funds?
Investors screen companies based on their sustainability compliance scores, and ESG metrics have enabled investment firms to satisfy investor requirements. One result of the increased focus on corporate sustainability is ESG funds. This post will describe different components of ESG funds with examples.
What is an ESG Fund?
ESG funds are financial investment vehicles offered by private equity firms, mutual fund managers, and portfolio management solutions. These funds utilize environmental, social, and governance indicators to prioritize sustainable companies in their stock selection.
However, ESG metrics and performance calculation methods vary across regional sustainability accounting frameworks. So, investors and business owners depend on ESG consulting to evaluate their compliance ratings.
Consider that an investment fund, company stock, bond, or real estate project claims to comply with ESG criteria. Investors will require objective data analytics to cross-examine the validity of such claims. Besides, sustainability benchmarking can reveal other investment opportunities with a better balance between ESG compliance and business growth potential.
Nevertheless, many ESG funds utilize strategies like excluding corporations known for ethically ambiguous practices and offerings. For example, an ESG fund can avoid including an alcohol business in its portfolio due to the social impact concerns.
Types of ESG Funds
1| Ethical Funds
Consulting firms can help you shortlist the funds that use morality, social ethics, faith, and a broader concept of “doing good.” Such mutual funds are ethical funds, and ESG solutions can help investors study more holistic data and their performance.
Each society has unwritten rules, such as keeping children safe or respecting elderly citizens. These values drive investor behavior, resulting in the rise of ethical investing. Imagine high net-worth individuals (HNWI) investing in an ethical fund after a social impact analysis. The “benefit” emphasizes the religious, moral, and political gains rather than returns.
Consider an ethical fund that utilizes the raised funds to eradicate the malnutrition crisis in the world’s underdeveloped areas. Some investors will use their political views to determine companies that deserve financial assistance.
These concepts often correlate with intangible gains like the religious concepts of virtues and vices. Therefore, some investors request ESG consulting firms to screen ethical funds irrespective of a lower return on investment (ROI).
2| Social Impact Funds
Social impact investing involves corporate stocks related to renewable energy companies or forest and biodiversity conservation. ESG solutions can research the socially positive impact of an enterprise to evaluate whether it qualifies to be in the investment portfolio of social impact funds.
While ethical ESG funds investors leverage religious, moral, or political investor philosophies, social impact funds exclusively emphasize how an investment benefits society. For example, supporting vocational e-learning platforms increases the economic competitiveness of a demographic.
Likewise, some social impact funds garner capital support from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), insurance companies, banks, cooperative societies, and HNWIs. ESG consulting firms consider the social impact funds advantageous due to a more objective outlook driven by tangible gains.
After all, quantifying and modeling statistical data on literacy rates, rehabilitated substance abusers, or renewable energy research outcomes is possible via appropriate ESG solutions.
3| Green Funds
Green funds select portfolio companies by studying the environmentally harmful or beneficial effects of corporate activities. For example, ineffective waste management causes pollution of water bodies. If an animal or human consumes water from these resources, they become ill. Polluted water can also damage trees through soil seepage near the roots.
Investors want to support organizations that realize the ecological cost of industrial development. Such companies always discover recycling and waste reduction technologies. Therefore, ESG consulting firms list green funds as the ones that include only environmentally responsible brands in the portfolio.
Nevertheless, the performance of a green fund will fluctuate due to market trends. You want to balance environmentalist investor activism with holistic risk management. Otherwise, your capital resources will become available to a less reliable enterprise. If an investor experiences a significant loss due to green fund investments, their ability to support other eco-friendly brands diminishes.
Green funds still witness a rise in demand because more investors are utilizing ESG solutions to screen the companies working on renewable energy, forest preservation, pollution analytics, and animal protection projects.
Screening Strategies Employed by the Best ESG Funds
1| Compliance Benchmarking
An ESG score relies on the company’s performance across sustainability accounting metrics. You can estimate it using statistical models. Still, different ESG solutions will develop proprietary performance assessment methods. Therefore, investors must monitor multiple online databases to determine whether a company is committed to sustainable development goals.
Compliance benchmarking uses a single performance management system to determine ESG scores. It reveals the business risks associated with unsustainable operations. So, the manager can selectively address these issues that reduce their ESG score.
A benchmark involves reference values to help with progress monitoring over time. Managers and investors require compliance benchmarking to check how a company has improved its ESG performance. The ESG Funds leverage benchmarking when selecting stocks for their portfolio.
2| Peer Analytics
Two eco-friendly companies can have significant differences across ESG performance metrics. Likewise, businesses working in different industries might exhibit identical ESG compliance ratings. However, comparing them with their business rivals in the same industry gives you a clearer estimate of their sustainability.
Peer analytics investigates multiple organizations to identify the best fit for investors’ preferences and risk profiles. You can quickly learn about which company tops the environmental compliance charts. Later, ESG funds use these insights to distribute their financial resources across the most sustainable companies.
3| Greenwashing Inspections
A brand’s reputation as an ESG-first enterprise must be authentic. Verifying the validity of what a company claims as its sustainability performance can assist the investors in separating the gene the genuinely eco-friendly organizations from the companies that apply greenwashing tactics.
Greenwashing is a result of unethical marketing and ESG report manipulation. It includes creating and falsifying sustainability compliance datasets. So, the company’s compliance ratings seem better than the accurate scores. Professional ESG consulting firms always inspect sustainability disclosure documents to identify greenwashing attempts.
4| Controversy Intelligence
Historical performance records associated with an organization can be instrumental in verifying the legitimacy of its ESG compliance claims. Controversy research and intelligence gathering will allow the fund managers to audit a company’s brand presence across multiple media outlets.
Innovative ESG solutions exist today, featuring scalable social listening capabilities and press coverage analytics. Their essential services include tracking how often publications and social media mention a corporate brand.
Investment strategists can also benefit from more advanced social media listening tools like sentiment analytics and materiality assessment. For example, an organization might have an attractive ESG score greater than 90. Simultaneously, some controversial events could have a particular connection with this organization, and ESG funds will consider it in screening.
Examples of ESG Funds
1| Joint Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Fund
The United Nations (UN) created a financial vehicle known as SDG Fund in 2014. This financial mechanism used to have many backers among the UN’s member countries and philanthropists when it was operational. However, the Joint SDG Fund is its latest spiritual successor. It also champions a multi-dimensional cooperative approach to address sustainability integration challenges.
Several agencies help United Nations deliver on-ground support to the marginalized, financially weak, and old individuals in over 23 geopolitical territories through this fund. The Joint SDG Fund concentrates on solving the contemporary social-economic and environmental challenges by promoting the following.
Universal access to authoritative educational resources on climate change,
Social protection systems for the workers in informal sectors,
Scientific breakthroughs vital for sustainable development,
Energy-efficient technologies and research innovations,
Disaster risk management and response strategies,
Availability of clean drinking water.
The characteristics of the joint sustainable development goals fund qualify it as an ESG fund. Therefore, some ESG consulting firms recommend this financial vehicle to environmentally conscious investors.
2| Vanguard FTSE Social Index Fund (VFTAX)
VFTAX tracks US Select Index Series termed FTSE4Good. The Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) index series emphasizes environmental, social, and governance practices. So, VFTAX utilizes this resource to screen portfolio companies and corresponding stocks.
This ESG fund excludes the enterprises creating “vice products” like gambling, adult entertainment, tobacco, and addictive beverages. Investors will observe that VFTAX also avoids corporations relying heavily on non-renewable energy resources.
Besides, any company involved in controversies and discriminatory practices will not make it into the VFTAX portfolio. Moreover, it excludes businesses creating weapons systems for the military and civilians.
VFTAX has a low expense ratio. The minimum investment value is 3000 USD. Institutional investors should also consider VFTNX related to this social index fund, requiring 5 million US dollars. Its portfolio comprises Amazon Inc., Alphabet Inc., Microsoft Corp, and Apple Inc.
Conclusion
ESG funds utilize sustainability accounting frameworks for portfolio management. Investors conscious about how companies affect the world prefer ESG-based investment strategies. Therefore, modern ESG consulting firms develop statistical models to quantify corporate compliance across sustainability metrics.
Mitigating carbon risks, affordable Healthcare, rehabilitating substance abusers, and offering universal access to clean water are the admirable objectives of sustainable businesses. High net-worth individuals (HNWI) and institutional investors also want to make a positive impact.
So, ESG funds allow them to cooperate for ethical, religious, political, social, environmental, and humanitarian development. Still, compliance assessment, monitoring, and reporting remind advanced technological assistance offered by talented domain experts.

What's your opinion on Death of the Author?
as it’s used in fandom contexts DOTA is just a memetic shorthand for the atextual anarchy of fanon wherein the text itself is put into a subordinate position to the transformative imagination of the audience; for the absurdity of invoking ‘the death of the author’ to validate this approach, note that this usage goes hand in hand with the concept of ‘word of god’—something that is explicitly described, criticized, and rejected in barthes’ essay!
what ‘the death of the author’ actually argues for is an atheistic approach to to the text: the author is dead, and cannot be exhumed from what is written. the essay is a screed against critical methods which engage with the text as biography; against “the image of literature […] tyrannically centered on the author, his person, his life, his tastes, his passions.”
in this mode of criticism, barthes argues, interpretation of the text becomes a quasi-religious exercise in deciphering the ‘true meaning’ through excavation of the author from the text: “when the author has been found, the text is explained - victory to the critic.” he derides this as a restrictive and ‘theological’ approach, the author-as-god, to literature. but his interest lies in the richness and multiplicity of the text itself, which is liberated by the death of the author: without the author, without god, the text speaks for itself.
thus the reader is born.
for myself i am not categorically against a ‘living’ author. i think there are certain contexts in which it is valuable to take authorial identity and history into consideration and i don’t think the impulse to find an author in the text is solely the purview of critics. i do however broadly sit in the ‘anti-theological’ camp wherein there is no god and the text speaks for itself. (and what i mean here is my analytical approach; i take a different approach for transformative works, i.e. the text-as-sandbox. my impression is that most people in fandom do not make this distinction, or at least don’t make it with any clarity; but i have two hats.)
and this approach—the primacy of the text—is why i do not like fanon and i don’t particularly like the fandom conception of DOTA. to carry the theological metaphor forward, my feeling is that fanon as a method of textual interpretation (such as it is) is every bit as ‘theistic’ as the text-as-authorial-biography method: in fanon the text is beholden to the god of fandom. this is equally as restrictive and meager a way of engaging with the text—and within the sphere of transformative works it is also limiting creatively, because there is a social expectation and implicit pressure to conform to fanon.
the author is dead and i think we ought to dispense with this god, too.
