It’s a running gag in the AFTGF AU that Neil can’t hold a job for long. The only job that he’s kept is working at the diner but it’s because everyone in town excuses his horrible customer service since he’s very attractive and mysterious

Dreamscapers pt1

All for the Gravity Falls AU

Text:

Neil: I know that when we started this, you said that there were some things you couldn’t tell me if they were related to your past, but I wonder about the armbands…

Text:

Minyard: First, there is no ‘this’. Second, if you know then why are you asking?

Neil: don’t be like that. I’m curious, you wear them even now but you told Nicky they were your brother—

Minyard: don’t push me, ‘Josten’

Neil: and why not, ‘Mr Minyard’

Minyard: Listen here, just because I blw you doesn’t mean I like you. I tolerate you at best. Now get out and don’t let any of them see you

Run down:

We start with Neil getting dressed in Minyard’s room. (Andrew disguised as Aaron but to Neil, he is only Mr Minyard) Neil starts asking about Minyard’s armbands despite his prior warnings that Minyard would never talk about his past and Neil is only allowed to ask about the present or future. Minyard reminds him as such until Neil tries to bring up that Nicky once mentioned the armbands belonged to Aaron’s brother Andrew. Andrew warns Neil and makes fun of his name (trying to put Neil in his place about secrets since Josten isn’t his real name) Neil does the same back since although he doesn’t know the truth, he does know that the name Mr Minyard is meant to hide something. That prompts Minyard to kick Neil out with some bitter last words

Neil is sent into the rain pour to walk himself home when he hears a commotion from inside just a minute after his leave. Riko is then thrown out the front door by Minyard who ignores Riko’s threats to steal the Mystery Shack

Neil: Leave them alone, Riko

Riko: Mind your own, Scar Face. You need employment so bad you sell yourself to this white trash. When I steal the deed, y’all never see this place again. Do yourself a favor and find a different bed to warm

Neil tries to make Riko leave since he looks ridiculous, standing in the rain and ruining his nice clothes. Riko spits back at Neil, warning him to find another job since Riko is sure the shack will be his and he will not be offering employment to Neil when it is

Neil punches Riko for implying he was a pro and Riko leaves. Afterward, Riko uses an incantation to summon Bill Cipher and makes a deal for him to steal the deed by invading Minyard’s mind

April and Anais overhears and go to Neil and Nicky for help

Text:

April: Neil! We need your help! Kitty is in trouble!

Neil puts on his flannel and follows April to the shack where everyone is just in time to witness Bill enter Minyard’s mind.

Notes:

- The girls call Minyard, ‘Kitty’ since they refuse to call him dad, and he doesn’t want them calling him Aaron. He’s the guy with cats so Kitty it is

- Riko is not connected to the mafia in this au. He and Tetsuji moved to Oregon to scam ppl with faux divination. So he’s never met Neil, was not friends with Kevin, and his only goals are to uncover the mysteries of the journals and take their power for himself

- Andrew is 42 in this au, Neil is 41 physically but his drivers license states he is about 24-28 since the FBI wanted to keep people from finding him

- While Neil works at the shack, he does do other jobs around Gravity Falls. However it is a running gag that he cannot keep a job for too long so he is constantly being fired or quits.

Although Neil is the ‘Wendy’ character, Anais does not have a crush on him and he is not a teenager. Neil is 40 years old

In this episode, he only goes with Nicky and the Miniyards because he gets into an argument with Aaron(Andrew) and needs space from him

Anais is frustrated with Neil because it’s obvious he and Aaron(Andrew) have some tension but she still has some hope he’ll make up with her mother. Neil still tries to help her investigate the bunker

Anais realizes which one is Neil because he is not a punk ass bitch who’d ask for help from a 12 year old

Minyard: Don’t push that button!

Neil: Girls, hear him out—

Anais: and why should we trust you, Nathaniel?

Anais: He stole radioactive waste and you lied to us all summer! Is it true? Are you a serial killer? Are you hiding from the FBI and using us as some sort of shield? How could you? We trusted you. Both of you!

April: Anais!

Anais: April! Hurry! Shut it down!

Minyard: No! April! April, wait!

Nicky: Aaron! Stop!

Minyard: Nicky—

Nicky: Aaron! How could you lie!? Why are you trying to hurt the girls?!

Minyard; Let me go!

Anais: Let me go, Nathaniel!

Neil: That’s not me anymore—

Anais: Liar! Was any of it real ? Did you plan on telling us? Or did we mean so little to you both that you didn’t care to share the truth?

April: Neil… I don’t even know who you are… Kit—Dad… is it true? You’ve never seen us as your daughters?

Summary:

In ‘Not What He Seems’ Minyard is being questioned by the FBI. Neil gets roped into it because of his past. The girls, believing the two to be innocent, try to prove as such by gathering evidence from security tapes in Minyard’s room. There, they find out he did steal chemicals and find a box hidden in his room with reports of Neil’s criminal past along with his fake IDs and mugshots.

Still not ready to accept the facts, they question a detective tasked with babysitting them. The man gets irritated with their naive defenses and outright shows them a live taping of Minyard’s interrogation. There, he admits he never saw the girls as his children and never wanted kids to begin with. The detective puts into their heads that Neil has been using them and in a way, so had Minyard

The girls go into the basement once they get away and find the portal. Anais shares the books warnings of the world ending portal (Nicky who followed them after the girls got past him) Anais lowkey crashes out and is pissed about Minyard’s lies and the delusions the fbi fed them. Nicky is heartbroken to hear and so they try to stop the portal

Minyard arrives with Neil seconds before they do and he tries to convince them to hear him out. Arguments ensue, anti gravity and air fights

Young Aaron: I just don’t get why you can come over to my house but you won’t let me go to yours

Young Andrew: if you want me to play, you’ll listen to me

Aaron: fine…

Rundown:

The gang goes looking for the memory of Andrew’s safe code. Anais opens the first cell door she sees. A memory of Minyard being arrested plays before her.

Nicky opens another cell door excitedly but his face falls at the sight of the baby faced Twinyards. There stands Aaron and Andrew about 9 or older. Nicky tears up bcuz they were so little, and here is his supposed dead cousin Andrew. More than that, the bruising on Aaron’s face reminds Nicky how little he did to protect them

April: hey Neil! Recognize this face?

Neil: wait!

Rundown:

April, not seeing everyone else’s discoveries, goes to a picture frame she recognizes as Neil. She teases him about the fact that he’s the only one with picture frames before she opens the door. Neil, worried about what the memory might expose, calls for her to wait but April opens the frame anyway

Neil: You can’t smoke in here

Minyard: Gonna tattle, Josten?

Neil: nope.

Minyard: Stealin’ again? Jaxkass

Neil: admit it, you like me

Minyard: I hate you

Neil: the girls seemed to think otherwise

Minyard:…

Minyard: I hate you, doesn’t mean—

Rundown:

A memory that takes place sometime after the Deep End ep, Neil is cleaning up Sweeties after hours as Minyard loiters at a table, smoking. Neil chastises him for it as part of his job but instantly starts some light banter. Neil has started flirting with Minyard these days but when Minyard says he hates him, he thinks he must have been reading signals wrong or maybe the girls were pulling his leg.

Minyard doesn’t like that look on Neil’s face and uses the line “doesn’t mean I wouldn’t blow you”

Neil comes in to slam the frame close before it shows how far they went.

Notes:

- Despite their blatant flirting in the memory, everyone brushes it off since they believe they’d know if Minyard and Neil had a thing going on

- Neil closes the frame to protect Minyard’s privacy, shield April from inappropriate language, and because he’s embarrassed by how he threw himself at Minyard just to realize now how curt and cold his responses actually were (Neil’s just in his head and doubting his relationship)

- I cover up Andrew in the memory of him and Aaron to show how Nicky believes it to be Aaron’s memory of the event

- the original memory I had planned Anais to stumble upon was of Andrew already in prison but then I realized none of his prison memories would have been appropriate for her

- Neil was fired that day at the diner after his boss found him with his tongue down a customers throat

April: Lets look for Mama’s memories !

Nicky: That’s an awesome idea!

Neil: you know damn well how Mr Minyard feels about his personal space. He wouldn’t want us running around in here

Nicky: cmon, you don’t want to know what Aaron really thinks of you?

Summary:

The gang follows Bill into Minyard’s mind and looks around at the organized chaos. April instantly gets excited and wants to see the memories of their mother through Minyard’s eyes. Nicky is on board but Neil shuts them down. Nicky tries to convince Neil to snoop. Bill chooses that moment to show himself and exhibit dream power by conjuring pretty men from Nicky’s mind.

After he leaves, Neil agrees to follow the others and save Minyard from the dream demon.

They enter his prison where a living room space plays a static tv that glitches with a memory randomly. The tv depicts what looks to be Minyard when he was younger (unknown to them it is Aaron the day he disappeared)

Ignoring the common room that leads to many places in Minyard’s mind, they head for the memory area

There is a chaotic first room of current memories from the summer but beyond that leads to more organized prison like halls, each hall representing a different category of memory

Notes:

- the organized halls are all titled but unfortunately for the gang, it’s all written in ciphers and codes

- Neil’s age in his ID was a typo by the FBI but being placed in the loony bin that is gravity falls, they didn’t care to fix it

Andrew’s mind

Andrew’s Mind Notes:

- Andrew’s mindland is designed after a prison. There is barbed wire everywhere near his memories, a broken picket fence lining the building, an American flag from Cass’s house, there are 13 windows on the front of the prison, a balcony/roof area, a broken street light Andrew hit when Tilda died, and the car he crashed is semi buried next to the prison

- somewhere near the prison is a soiled and broken bed with a bare stained mattress and broken frame (I did my best to write ‘please’ in the scrambled word code on the bed frame)

- the inside of the prison is actually well organized with cells and thick doors in place of the rooms to his memories. Everything is semi labeled. The doors with the worst of his memories have creaky bedroom doors with no locks or door handles so they occasionally swing open at the slightest movement

- the place smells like cigarettes and the memories are extremely vivid

- Andrew keeps a specific area of the prison dedicated to Neil memories. The area is organized with picture frames of Neil from different angles. It’s well kept and clean and very few doors have locks. It is the only area of the prison with colored doors and walls

- the entrance of the prison has a living room with multiple old couches and bean bags surrounding a box TV that plays static until a random memory connects to the channel briefly before becoming static again (a representation of Andrew’s memories becoming intrusive sometimes)(the scene depicted is of Aaron the day Andrew lost him)

- everyone mistakes it for Andrew

Fun fact:

April loves cats (Hello Kitty is her obsession) April likes being at Andrew and Neil’s since they have cats. When she was a baby she had trouble identifying Andrew as a person and saying his name so to tell the twins apart she called Andrew “Kitty” and Aaron dad. The Miniyards stuck to the nickname ever since and Andrew has been branded as Kitty for the rest of their lives

Anais Margot McKenzie-Minyard

In high school, Anais is hard working and a huge over achiever. She’s high in her academics and graduates as the second smartest kid in the school (she was very bitter at being second place—who is she? Kevin Day?) Anais was also in cheerleading, drill, vice captain of the volleyball team, and a backliner for the Exy team.

She got a three year exy scholarship for college and Andrew pre paid the rest of the Miniyards college expenses

April Brianna McKenzie-Minyard

April was cheer captain, Drill vice captain, spiker for the volleyball team, and homecoming queen her sophomore year of high school.

Although April is just as smart of Anais, she’s seen as the “dumb” or “blonde” twin since she focuses her energy on cheerleading and social events. April is smart, she just isn’t competitive about it

April gets a cheerleading scholarship to the same school as Anais but she drops cheerleading her second semester so she can join the exy team

Fun fact: Both girls have their lucky (and favorite) number as 2 but since April won a rock paper scissor match back in the first grade, she’s been allowed to use the number in everything while Anais settles for 3 (the girls second favorite number)
