Welcome to Villain house party 3.0!
Drakken's heart sank as he noticed that his evil acquaintances shared his same ingenious plan. "I told ya to wear that ragedog costume! Look at me now! I'm wearing a cheerleader skirt!!!" Duff yelled. "I don't see how this is any different from your Kilt, Killigan." lord Monkey Fist replied.
"Uhm, Doctor D? why is Lurman dressed like you? I thought he was your number one fan." Shego pointed over at Frugal Lucre, who was trying to make his way over to the pair. "OH, yes Francis is the judge of tonight's costume party." Amy explained. "Well then," Shego laughed as she noticed Drakken's face contorted into a forced smile to appease the man, "I guess winning first place will be no big, right KP?"

Does your After Today AU have any designs for their real counterparts? 👀👉👈
I DIDN'T HAVE DESIGNS BUT I SAW THIS AND DIDN'T WANNA LEAVE YOU HANGING SO I SKETCHED THEM OUT AS FAST AS I COULD!!! They are very rough sketches though, so apologies if they don't look the best. (Also ran out of room for Silver and Blaze, so I'll just explain what I'm thinking for them.)
Tumblr media
Starting with Sonic, we've got our pretty standard Nicky look with slightly different bangs, though no glasses for this boy. But I think the hoodie is still red. Also, I made his quills much shorter than Hero!Sonic's quills. This boy isn't fighting evil every day, he has no reason to make sure he can cut through solid metal with his hair. XD
For Tails, I changed his bangs because I can't draw his canon bangs for the life of me. (Or Amy's for that matter.) I was thinking for his shirt that he's wearing some kind of baseball jersey. We can let this kid play sports, as a treat. :D The number two is obviously a reference to his two tails, which yes, I let him keep! I figured since it's a mutation, it would probably still happen in the real world. The only difference is he can't fly with them. I also gave Tails glasses because yes.
With Knuckles, I tried my best to make him tall and bulky, since he's a football player. So basically, the Boom Knuckles look except not quite that exaggerated. Gave him a scar that he probably got during practice one day, but mostly because I really like giving characters scars. XD And then he's got a skull t-shirt and some shorts because he's a tough sports guy.
For Amy, I debated hard on what expression she should be making, and I ultimately decided on an indifferent pose because of character arc thingies I have in mind for her. :3 Changed her bangs, changed her hair a bit, and gave her a long sleeve shirt with a heart. She's a cheerleader with some cutesy clothes, not much else to say. (Also she's looking at her phone if you couldn't tell.)
Rouge was pretty fun because I LOVE putting her in outfits. Gave her bangs because I'm a Rouge bangs truther. She's wearing what I hope are some stylish popular girl type clothes complete with way too many bracelets on each wrist. (pretend she's wearing more than she is) And then some high heels to top it off! Also let her pierce her ears twice because why not.
Shadow's wearing a hoodie like Sonic, but his has some patterns! I think his hoodie would be dark gray with those stripes being red. He doesn't have red stripes on his quills since he isn't the Ultimate Lifeform, though I think he can keep his red eyes. Also gave him some emo bangs for fun.
Moving on to describing the ones I didn't get to draw! For Silver, I think he's wearing all white clothes. I'm kinda picturing a jacket with some puffy white fur around the hood kinda like the jacket I drew here. Also, I think he's wearing sunglasses, like he's too cool for this world. XD
And then for Blaze, she's a foreign exchange student and I'm thinking she's from Japan. So, I think it would be really cool and pretty if she wore a kimono! Maybe she's got her hair up in a bun with a pretty accessory/clip of some kind to keep it tidy.
Anyway, yeah! Those are my basic thoughts for everyone's designs! :D Hope you like em!

Book summaries from Goodreads below the cut:
Libba Bray's The Diviners:
Evie O’Neill has been exiled from her boring old hometown and shipped off to the bustling streets of New York City—and she is pos-i-tute-ly ecstatic. It’s 1926, and New York is filled with speakeasies, Ziegfeld girls, and rakish pickpockets. The only catch is that she has to live with her uncle Will and his unhealthy obsession with the occult. Evie worries her uncle will discover her darkest secret: a supernatural power that has only brought her trouble so far. But when the police find a murdered girl branded with a cryptic symbol and Will is called to the scene, Evie realizes her gift could help catch a serial killer. As Evie jumps headlong into a dance with a murderer, other stories unfold in the city that never sleeps. A young man named Memphis is caught between two worlds. A chorus girl named Theta is running from her past. A student named Jericho is hiding a shocking secret. And unknown to all, something dark and evil has awakened…
Ami McKay's The Witches of New York:
The year is 1880. Two hundred years after the trials in Salem, Adelaide Thom ('Moth' from The Virgin Cure) has left her life in the sideshow to open a tea shop with another young woman who feels it's finally safe enough to describe herself as a witch: a former medical student and "gardien de sorts" (keeper of spells), Eleanor St. Clair. Together they cater to Manhattan's high society ladies, specializing in cures, palmistry and potions--and in guarding the secrets of their clients.
All is well until one bright September afternoon, when an enchanting young woman named Beatrice Dunn arrives at their door seeking employment. Beatrice soon becomes indispensable as Eleanor's apprentice, but her new life with the witches is marred by strange occurrences. She sees things no one else can see. She hears voices no one else can hear. Objects appear out of thin air, as if gifts from the dead. Has she been touched by magic or is she simply losing her mind?
Eleanor wants to tread lightly and respect the magic manifest in the girl, but Adelaide sees a business opportunity. Working with Dr. Quinn Brody, a talented alienist, she submits Beatrice to a series of tests to see if she truly can talk to spirits. Amidst the witches' tug-of-war over what's best for her, Beatrice disappears, leaving them to wonder whether it was by choice or by force.
As Adelaide and Eleanor begin the desperate search for Beatrice, they're confronted by accusations and spectres from their own pasts. In a time when women were corseted, confined and committed for merely speaking their minds, were any of them safe?
Megan Abbott's Dare Me:
Addy Hanlon has always been Beth Cassidy's best friend and trusted lieutenant. Beth calls the shots and Addy carries them out, a long-established order of things that has brought them to the pinnacle of their high-school careers. Now they're seniors who rule the intensely competitive cheer squad, feared and followed by the other girls—until the young new coach arrives.
Cool and commanding, an emissary from the adult world just beyond their reach, Coach Colette French draws Addy and the other cheerleaders into her life. Only Beth, unsettled by the new regime, remains outside Coach's golden circle, waging a subtle but vicious campaign to regain her position as "top girl"—both with the team and with Addy herself.
Then a suicide focuses a police investigation on Coach and her squad. After the first wave of shock and grief, Addy tries to uncover the truth behind the death—and learns that the boundary between loyalty and love can be dangerous terrain.
Nina LaCour's Everything Leads to You:
A wunderkind young set designer, Emi has already started to find her way in the competitive Hollywood film world.   Emi is a film buff and a true romantic, but her real-life relationships are a mess. She has desperately gone back to the same girl too many times to mention. But then a mysterious letter from a silver screen legend leads Emi to Ava. Ava is unlike anyone Emi has ever met. She has a tumultuous, not-so-glamorous past, and lives an unconventional life. She’s enigmatic…. She’s beautiful. And she is about to expand Emi’s understanding of family, acceptance, and true romance.
Sarah Rees Brennan's Tell the Wind & Fire:
In a city divided between opulent luxury in the Light and fierce privations in the Dark, a determined young woman survives by guarding her secrets.
Lucie Manette was born in the Dark half of the city, but careful manipulations won her a home in the Light, celebrity status, and a rich, loving boyfriend. Now she just wants to keep her head down, but her boyfriend has a dark secret of his own—one involving an apparent stranger who is destitute and despised. Lucie alone knows the young men’s deadly connection, and even as the knowledge leads her to make a grave mistake, she can trust no one with the truth.
Blood and secrets alike spill out when revolution erupts. With both halves of the city burning, and mercy nowhere to be found, can Lucie save either boy—or herself?

Locker confessions - Argyle x plus size reader
Summary: Hungover from the night before you try to avoid the gaze of the boy you kissed whilst thinking about your crush Argyle.
Comments and reblogs are much appreciated and help more people read my works.
Tumblr media
A/n: I love Argyle, protect him.
You slump on the row of red lockers as you watch the people go by still clad in party attire from the night before.
You try to hide yourself with the open locker door from the scathing looks from the blonde cheerleader who you cock blocked the night before. That same cheerleader who is currently being held back by her boyfriend from starting a fight with you, her big old dagger eyes burning into your skull, her manicured hands gripping her bleached hair like a teenager with image issues would.
Your friend, a lanky girl who plays softball and is also in the school band scoots on over to you her glasses askew and her hair still smelling like apple sours and open beer cans.
Amy, in all her sporty nerd glory, wears her bright red softball hoodie with the school’s mascot sprawled across the chest along with a pair of muddied sports trainers that were once stuffed in the back of her locker long forgotten until now.
You can tell she probably either stayed at the party way after you left or was super sneaky for once in her life, getting in and out her second floor bedroom without her mother finding out and telling her off.  That woman will go mad once she realises her daughter went to another party, if she doesn’t already know because being grounded for buying weed off Argyle, the guy you’re totally not crushing over, got her two weeks grounded.
Amy had the good idea to change into her sports uniform instead of walking around school in a red slinky mini dress and high heels unlike you who’s still dresses in your party attire. Whilst the dress you’re wearing isn’t so mini and you’re wearing your old trusted black boots, the shiny black satin like fabric and the low cut scream ‘party dress’.
“(Y/n), stop moping about we have a big problem!” she whisper yells to you as she looks up to your dishevelled form.
You hair is such a mess that you had to just pull it back with a headband making you look like a crazy art teacher who stuffs pencils in their hair along with the very oversized zip up Hurley hoodie, that is also in a ghastly aqua green, it’s the best attempt by you to cover up.
“What, that half the school is hung over? Or that I’m going to have blondie following me around for like a week giving me the evils?”
“No!” she grabs your arm pulling you away from the safety of the locker door, “Look past every girl who’s jealous of you pretty face and look!”
She leans backwards rather comically, her head peeking out from the locker door along with you.
You look past other teenagers hungover and tired, the bunch of popular kids who look ready to vomit in the nearest rubbish bin standing out in the crowd. You also avoid eye contact with that one kid you went on a date with when you were thirteen only for him to stand you up at the last minute because you were ‘to big’ to be dated.
You look and look with squinted eyes only to see the one and only Mister popular himself in all his surfer dude blonde hair and tanned body glory staring right at you both, well more like he’s looking right at you with predator like eyes.
“Fuck. No. I’m not dealing with this today.” You mutter as you look away the sudden memory of last night coming back.
You fucking cock blocked ye old blondie from fucking him.
If you remember correctly you had drunk so many glasses of wine from a box that when Mister popular kissed you suddenly, joke or not, you kissed back.
Truly, he was pleasantly surprised at how good you kissed considering that he came over as a joke to tease the fat girl, now the toned surfer has the hots for you, and yes whilst you’re plenty hot having the attention of that guy that brings along a whole lot of trouble.
Exhibit A, Little Miss popular who wanted to woo him.
“I don’t like him!” you whisper yell in a more panicked voice.
“I know (y/n) but he’s looking.” Amy turns around to try and sneakily look at him but she only ends up looking directly at him.
She puts up her hand and waves.
“Amy!” you shove her hand down and retreat back behind the locker door, “He’s going to try and fuck me, I don’t want that, I don’t want to be another trophy win.”
“Well don’t fuck him then.”
“I won’t, he’ll just carry on trying by bugging me, he did the same with Kelly Smith!”
You see teenage boys regardless if there legally adults or still children have a tendency to get annoyed at not getting what they want, with Mr popular (his name escapes you head because you honestly don’t care for him at all) is the type of guy who’ll chase any girl who gives him an ounce of attention, so considering you drunkenly kissed him now he’s going to think that you want to fuck him.
You don’t want to fuck him.
You want to fuck Argyle.
“I don’t want to fuck him at all.” You begin, your voice getting a bit louder but not loud enough that passers-by can hear, “I was drunk, he was drunk, he was being a dick, I was just a bit horny. Drunk kisses happen Amy, you should know, you’ve drunk kissed half the Softball squad-“
Normally when you being to rant nerves also bubble up, your words become rushed and you normally say something you end up regretting.
“- sorry –“ you apologise for bringing it up.
“Nah, all good.” Amy brushes it off, her eyes wondering behind you.
“- anyway if I was going to fuck anyone I don’t want to fuck him, I want to fuck Argyle for fuck sake!”
Face flushed warm and you outburst over you look at Amy who has paused mid breath, he eyes wide and still looking behind you.
“What?” you urge.
“Morning Argyle.” Amy stammers out her face scrunching up in second hand embarrassment.
You feel like crawling into your locker and pulling the door closed, it’s not possible considering your plus size and the fact your locker is small and square rather than a full length locker, but the feeling is still there.
Instead you bang you head on your locker door, your sight looking down in utter horror.
Argyle, shocked but with a growing Cheshire cat grin on his face, bends down trying to catch your eyes his face getting closer to yours as he does.
In your peripheral vision you can see him.
That handsome face, the long dark hair drooping down as his hand goes to your shoulder.
Amy steps back from the scene. She’s close enough that she can bail you out of the mess but really she just wants to stand and watch like it’s the newest movie.
Really the woman has been routing for you and Argyle to get together for the longest time.
There’s a reason she always takes you to Sufer Boy Pizza instead of Pizza Hut and that’s because Argyle always gives you discounted pizza. From day one when you were sixteen and Argyle saw you for the first time Amy knew that he fancied you.
The idea of you two together makes her so happy; the discounted pizza and good weed is just a bonus.
“Hey dude.” Argyle says as he finally catches your brilliant (colour) eyes, you face a flush and his eyes filled with what you can only call is utter admiration.
“…Hi…” you don’t move from you slump but you keep looking.
“So, you want to fuck me?”
A way to get to the point. Him saying that makes you feel icky because you don’t want him to think that you just was to have sex with him, you want to kiss all over his face, you want to hold his hand, you want to take him silly little dates, you want to be his.
“I-I, well-” you voice has turned croaky and you feel like running away to the nearest bathroom and crying, “-not just that, well I- fuck, I like like you Argyle.”
His smile does not falter it somehow get bigger and as you rise, ready to bolt, he says a sentence that shatters your world.
“Me to (y/n/n).”
Right then and there the shards of glass fall on the floor just like you do, a bit dramatic yes, but the man you like saying he likes you back mixed with a banging hangover makes you crouch on the ground and hyperventilate.
“You do?” you ponder out loud as Argyle crouches down to your level with concern but still somehow all smiles.
“Ever since I first met you.”
“Really?”
“Really really.”
“Thank fuck.” You say as your tackle him into a giant hug, a big chunk of his luscious hair tickling your nose and his long arms wrapping around your plush waist.
The stupid party and even stupider kiss from the night before is forgotten, hopefully you’ll get a better kiss from Argyle, but for now hugging on the floor on the high school’s hallway as everyone looks on will suffice.

tag 9 people to get to know better
Tagged by @coraniaid. Lots of cheating answers here!
3 ships: Faith x Buffy from BTVS (Fuffy!!) I'm pretty focused. (I'll ignore other Eliza Dushku characters, and uh, that leaves, to a much much MUCH lesser extent...) Wil x Vivian (from Saving Face) and Lucy x Amy (from D.E.B.S.) But I don't even know the ship names for those 2 so you can see how much of my brain they are taking up.
First ever ship: I think Mulder x Scully from X-Files was probably my first ever ship. (Although I did not know the term MSR and was not aware of fandom online.) I wasn't super invested, personally they don't really DO IT for me, but I was rooting for them to get together. One of these days I'll do a proper watch / rewatch. (I stopped watching regularly once I went to college.)
Last song: (double cheating album answer) Bad Bunny's new album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Manana. AND the soundtrack from the Out of Sight movie.
Last movie: Ouijia: Origin of Evil. (Last background movie rewatch: House on Haunted Hill, the 1999 version)
Currently reading: Just started the Bring It On: The Complete Story of the Cheerleading Movie That Changed, Like, Everything (No Seriously) book, by Kase Wickman. (JFC that's a title)
Currently watching: Bob's Burgers for fun (yay! Louise is my favorite), and just finished The Fall of the House of Usher (this was just OK for me, I much prefer Midnight Mass and the two Hauntings). I think Chucky will be next! (gotta get caught up on season two)
Currently consuming: Shrimp spring rolls and a Boston cream donut.
Currently craving: Halloween chocolate candy. And marshmallow peanuts. And candy corn.
Thanks this was fun. I'm having a rough October and this helped.

Lukas heard that Reena was crying and apologizes to her from the break up and helps cheer her up by getting together again
(I literally cried when I did this) (Warning: emotional so good luck)
@jakkiisthatboy2
~love me like you do playing~
Lukas: …
Lukas: *heard reena crying*
Lukas: Reena’s crying?
Lukas: *gasps*
Lukas: *remembers the memories of Reena and Lukas and their relationship*
~So love me like you do, l-l-love me like you do~
~Love me like you do, l-l-love me like you do~
~Touch me like you do, t-t-touch me like you do~
Lukas: what have I done?
~What are you waiting for?~
Lukas: *runs to Reena*
Sara: where is he going?
Tad: I don’t know!
Ramirez: probably from the break up
Victoria: or maybe it’s his version of his mind of memories!
Lukas: *burst the door and noticed Lukas and reena Amy and Jasmine*
Lukas: RINI!!!
Reena: Lukas?
Lukas: *hugs Reena*
~love me like you do, l-l-love me like you do~
~Love me like you do, l-l-love me like you do~
All: *enters and noticed*
Elena: what?
Eep: aww. He reunited with her
~Touch me like you do, t-t-touch me like you do~
Lukas: I’m sorry. I’m so sorry…
Lukas: I didn’t mean to…I wanna go back…okay?
Reena: 🥺
Reena: *cries and wails and bawls her eyes out*
Lukas: *hugs her tightly*
Anne: guys I’m gonna start crying…
Lukas: Rini…look at me…
Reena: *looks at Lukas teary*
Lukas: I know it was hard…I didn’t even mean it…but it’s my time to share my feelings with you… you are the most beautiful cheerleader a rapper has ever seen. And I know that you and I are grateful for each other…and I want to share the most greatest and most beautiful moments with you. I fell in love with you because you’re the only person I can love when I couldn’t love myself…and now I’m not alone. You can do it Rini. That’s all that matters. So all we have to do is be careful. Be careful on who you trust. A girl once told me to be careful when trying to fix a broken person with a broken heart, for you may cut yourself on your shattered pieces. Naw…I’m not gonna let that happen…and even though you’re the sister of a wonderful Mexican agent and I’m the son of a evil CIA agent, you and I have each other. having a broke heart is the worst… it’s like having a broken relationship with your boyfriend. Nobody can see it, but it hurts every time you breathe. Your eyes are like sparking stars that light up the night, and your hair is as smooth as the water in lakes, rivers, streams and oceans, and behind every sweet smile is a broken and bitter sadness that no one can ever see or feel…I love you Reena…more than anything…and I would do anything to protect you from danger and harm from my dad, his friends, even the mean queen bees and Tiffany…and I’m like the bravest hero to you. I wanna be there for you forever and ever… that’s why I love you…Reena Roberto Ramirez…
Reena: 🥺🥹
Tad: 🥹what are you waitingfor?! Do it!
Lukas and reena: *kisses each other as she sheds a tear*
~love me like you do, l-l-love me like you do~
All: *broke down happy tears*
~Love me like you do, l-l-love me like you do~
~Touch me like you do, t-t-touch me like you do~
~What are you waiting for?~
Reena: im glad you understand me…
Lukas: same here honey. Same here.
Reena: *happily hugs her boyfriend*
Lukas: there you go. That’s it. I’m right here. I’m gonna protect you from her as I can…I’ll be your bravest hero
Reena: oh please do. I need a hero to protect me…
Lukas: and now you have.
Reena and Lukas: 😊🙂

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Witch, S01E03
Sorry, this one's a bit late as I had to work Sunday.
The second episode of any long-running series is always interesting to watch, as well as a tricky thing to achieve. The writers are still setting up the character beats, the story-arcs, the rules of the world – basically, the general FEEL of the show. It’s easy to get things wrong, as you can’t take any big swings this early on, but you also don’t want to get so bogged down in set-up that you neglect to tell a story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even more so than the pilot, the second episode should clue the viewer in on what exactly they'll be tuning in for very week. If the pilot is the hook, then the sophomore episode has to reel you in; has to be a textbook example of what the show actually is.
(Also, a lot of the money shots will have already been spent on the first episode in order to get everyone’s attention, so you’re probably going to be working with a smaller budget as well).
And yes, I realize this is technically the show’s third episode, but Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest originally aired on the same night and are two halves of a single story. For all intents and purposes, Witch is the show’s sophomore episode.
For what it’s worth, I think Witch nails it. The episode introduces the Monster of the Week format, letting the audience know that Buffy won’t just be fighting vampires. It shows us what exactly Giles’s role as Buffy’s Watcher encompasses, and demonstrates that Willow and Xander are committing themselves to Buffy’s fight against evil – partly because they’re good people who know it’s the right thing to do, and partly because they’re invested in Buffy herself.
It even introduces a fairly important recurring character: Amy Madison, who will appear in almost every season of the show henceforth (season five is the only one she sits out).
Tumblr media
Obviously, witches will soon become a huge part of the show’s lore – second only to demons and vampires – and the episode establishes a few key traits about them, from the use of potions and spell books to the fact that the really evil witches get a case of Black Eyes of Evil when they're mad.
(We will see this identical eye-colour on another witch further down the track, and if you can’t guess who it is, just follow the link to the TV Tropes page...)
Most importantly, it cements the central theme of “high school is hell,” with various supernatural threats being elaborate metaphors for the trials and tribulations that teenagers have to go through – in this case, overbearing parents trying to live vicariously through their children. In the real world, Catherine would be a stage mum. In Sunnydale, she’s a witch that can magically switch bodies with her daughter. Such is life on the Hellmouth.
It kicks off with Buffy wanting to join the cheerleading squad and Giles being singularly unimpressed. But Buffy’s reasoning kind of breaks my heart – she used to do it before her calling to vampire-slaying, and she wants to start up again because she just wants something normal and safe in her life. She looks so young and perky! Sarah Michelle Gellar still has baby fat in her cheeks!
Tumblr media
Of course, that’s the cue to cut to a witch’s lair filled with bubbling cauldron and Barbie voodoo dolls.
During try-outs, Buffy is introduced to Amy Madison, and it’s established that she and Willow have been friends for a long time. I like that the two of them have this history together, and Willow shares some pertinent details about their friendship – most importantly that the two of them used to sneak brownies when Amy’s calorie-counting mother wasn’t looking.
(This is something that Buffy will use to clock what’s really going on towards the end of the episode, and even though I’ve probably watched Witch a dozen times, I’ve only just realized this detail is deliberately planted early on).
Amy comes across as pretty nice in this scene, so it’s odd to recall that she’s already Catherine.
There’s an amusing moment when Willow states that a cheerleader called “Amber” trained with someone called “Benson.” Later an actual Amber Benson will join the cast. But that’s not nearly as funny as Xander being given the line: “no need to drive it into my head like a railroad spike”. Just... wow.
During try-outs, the star performer Amber spontaneously combusts, and the best part is that Buffy tackles her to the (very hard gym) floor before dousing the flames. Seriously Buffy, was the full-body tackle necessary?
Tumblr media
Two good character beats: Giles is extremely chipper about all the fascinating (and deadly) supernatural threats they’re likely to face thanks to living on a Hellmouth, while Willow and Xander eagerly volunteer to help in the investigation. They dub themselves the Slayerettes, a term that I don’t think ever comes up again across the entire course of the show. Perhaps it’s just as well.
Buffy is cautious about their enthusiasm and delivers a basic warning, but then pretty much gives them the green light to get involved. I like that Buffy’s defining attribute as a Slayer (that she has a network of friends that contribute their own skills) is introduced in such a low-key way. Hey civilians, you want to help me fight witches and vampires? Sure, why not!
In hindsight, Amy talking up her mother, trash-talking her dad, and complaining that “I can’t get my body to move like [my mother’s]” are hints as to what’s actually going on here.
Tumblr media
There’s a red herring scene with Amy hearing spooky noises in the locker room and then getting threatened by Cordelia, nicely setting her up as a victim and not a culprit.
Neither Buffy or Amy made the squad and the former is genuinely empathetic towards the latter. That’s Buffy’s other great strength – she makes friends easily because she truly cares about people.
Ah, Sunnydale faculty members! I always love seeing glimpses of the high school staff on this show, whether it’s Mr Pole (driving instructor) or Dr Gregory (the biology teacher who gets decapitated in the very next episode). Just imagine having a fulltime job that gives you a front-row seat to all the weird shit the Hellmouth can spit out – and that’s on top of having to teach a bunch of teenagers high school curriculum.  It can’t be a coincidence that all of these actors chose to play their characters as So Very Weary.
Tumblr media
In this episode alone Mr Pole is nearly killed by Cordelia during driver’s ed, and Dr Gregory is witness to a student having her mouth magically sealed shut. How did Sunnydale Syndrome account for that?
The gang are attempting to concoct a potion in a beaker that will reveal whether or not Amy is a witch, and not doing a particularly subtle job of it as they gather ingredients from biology class – though it is interesting to note that Willow is the one doing most of the brewing. We’re looking at her first brush with witchcraft.
Tumblr media
Buffy “accidentally” spills the potion on Amy’s arm and it turns blue, indicating that she is a witch – right at the same time another cheerleader starts panicking because her mouth has disappeared. It's a horrifying thing to witness, but Buffy notices that Amy looks just as freaked out as everyone else.
This is a bit of an odd red herring, as the gang are now working with the hypothesis that Amy is the witch, but unaware of what she’s actually doing – even though the very next scene demonstrates (to the audience at least) that she’s completely in control of events, going home and ordering her cowed “mother” to do her homework for her. I suppose we have to chalk her reaction in biology class down to Catherine’s acting skills.
Tumblr media
In any case, she also knows that Buffy is onto her, and reveals that she’s nabbed her bracelet. So Buffy is next on Catherine’s hitlist.
Buffy’s response to the spell is to go hyperactive, then collapse. Giles identifies the “bloodstone vengeance” spell pretty quickly and accurately (which feels like it could be a hint as to the darker proclivities of his past BUT belies his statement later on that he’s never cast a spell before. Hey – it's the second episode. They’re still figuring things out).
While Xander and Willow watch Amy cheer at the basketball game, Buffy and Giles just leave the school grounds for Amy’s house. It’s kind of funny that this happens all the time, and Giles never got in trouble for it. Nobody ever noticed that the school librarian was spending an inordinate amount of time with a student?
As Giles confronts who he thinks is Catherine, Buffy notices a plate of cookies on the floor and realizes that she’s Amy. In doing this, she’s clearly recalling Willow’s story about how they used to eat brownies together, but this is the first time I’ve noticed that link. Until now, I always just assumed that a grown woman curling up with a plate of brownies struck Buffy as more of a teenage girl thing to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the same time, Catherine is stuttering: “dad... her dad left...” and I love her hysterical little laugh when she says: “you know, kids these days!” All this is a tip-off that Catherine has switched bodies with her daughter, and poor Amy soon crumbles. About a month ago she woke up in her mother’s bed and realized her body had been stolen, which is a genuinely terrifying scenario. I’ve always been creeped out by Body Snatching stories.
Giles investigates the attic and finds that it’s a witch’s lair filled with clichés: a cauldron, magical tomes, and the inevitable Cat Scare. I’m pretty sure that last one was included just so they could have a cool clip to use in the opening credits.
While all this is happening, Willow and Xander are keeping eyes on Amy during the basketball game, and there’s a pretty neat pan from the action of the cheerleaders and crowd to the stillness of the Slayerettes. (Okay, I’ll stop calling them that. But they are taking their new role seriously).
Tumblr media
Giles, Buffy and Amy-in-Catherine head back to the school and the biology lab, where Giles begins the spell to reverse all of Catherine’s magic (stupidly, they do not tie up Amy despite knowing that the plan is to put Catherine back in this body). Over in the gym, Catherine-in-Amy can feel the spell start to work, and after toppling off the pyramid, she gives the rest of the cheerleaders a pretty lethal death glare and makes a feral run for the door.
Tumblr media
Willow and Xander attempt to stall her, and are taken out immediately. Still, I wonder if Willow was a little impressed by Catherine disabling Xander with only a hand gesture. That’s real power right there.
Some tension builds once Amy and Catherine are transported back into their own bodies, but Buffy is also back to full-health and uses the old “use a giant mirror to bounce a witch’s spell back upon her” trick. Why is there a giant mirror hanging from the ceiling of the Sunnydale biology lab? It doesn’t matter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What matters is that Catherine has disappeared and Giles informs Buffy that this was “his first casting.” LIAR. Okay, so we can head-canon that he’s just trying to keep his past as Ripper from her for as long as possible, but the truth is the writers just hadn’t conceived of that backstory for him yet. And that’s okay. A few little continuity flaws give a show flavour and the fans something to argue about.
In the wrap-up scene we see that Amy is happy living with her father (I would have liked to see him on-screen, especially in later seasons when Amy takes a downward spiral) and she and Buffy gaze for a moment at Catherine’s cheerleader trophy displayed in the hallway cabinet... both missing the fact that its eyes are moving. Yes, Catherine is the cheerleader trophy, now doomed to relive her glory years in perpetuity. Great ending!
Tumblr media
Miscellaneous Observations:
Joyce and Buffy are clearly set up as a foil to Catherine and Amy, and it occurs to me that this is a rare show that spotlights a mother/daughter relationship. More than that, a good mother/daughter relationship, especially for this genre. I’m wracking my brains and I can’t think of another one. Adults have to be useless, absent or antagonistic in these types of shows (if they’re targeted towards a slightly younger target audience, you can bet they’ll just make the protagonist an orphan).
In any case, Joyce and Buffy aren’t exactly on the same page, but clearly their rapport involves nothing like the outright abuse inflicted on Amy.
An early scene shows Joyce in the capacity of an art gallery curator, opening crates in the kitchen. It made me realize that we never, ever see Joyce’s place of work. Not once! And it’s a bit strange in a way, as that setting had a lot of potential to be filled with cursed artefacts and paintings, like how Charmed used the Auction House in season one for a similar purpose.
The plotting of the episode interests me, as it comes up with three possible scenarios the writers could have gone with: that Amy is trying to please her mother by making the cheerleading squad and not realizing she’s picking off the other girls with magic, that Amy is deliberately using witchcraft to take out the competition and is terrorizing her mother on top of it, or (the one they went with) that a body-swap between mother and daughter has occurred. It’s such a rich premise that any of these three scenarios could have made for a good story.
Tumblr media
That said, they kind of lose the original premise of a child being so pressured to live up to a parent’s exacting standards that she’s driven to desperation, replacing it to one of a parent being envious of a child’s youth and vicariously attempting to relive their glory years through them.
I’ve always wondered a little about Catherine’s backstory. Was she a hereditary witch, or self-taught like Willow? Because we know that Amy will manifest magical abilities as well, and even ends up with a streak of jealousy like her mother (though it’s directed at Willow).
Also, Giles removes Catherine’s spellbook from her house in order to reverse all her witchcraft. What happened to it afterwards? Come to think of it, we never see that Vampyr book from the first episode again either.
Tumblr media
This episode establishes that the Sunnydale basketball team is called the Razorbacks and their mascot is a pig. We’ll be seeing more of this later down the track...
Great casting on Elizabeth Anne Allen and Robin Riker as mother/daughter. They looked very similar, and channelled each other’s inflection and body language while they were playing each other’s character.
Also, I love this demon on the gate that leads to Amy's house:
Tumblr media
To sum up, I really love this episode, and is possibly my favourite season one episode after The Puppet Show. Maybe a bit too much time was spent on the cheerleaders falling prey to Catherine’s magic (the stuff with the driver’s ed lesson was clearly just to give Charisma Carpenter enough screentime to justify her placement in the opening credits) and it’s a Clueless Mystery in the sense that the audience is given no chance to figure out what’s going on before Buffy does (who gets the clues she needs in the same scene that she realizes what’s actually happening), but I still love it as a concentrated case study of what the show is offering us.
Best Scene: When Buffy drunkenly tells Xander that he’s “one of the girls” and we get this expression on Willow’s face:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Best Line: Freed from the bloodstone vengeance spell, Buffy leaps to her feet behind Catherine and says: “Guess what? I feel better.” It’s more in the delivery than in the words as-written, but is just the perfect blend of menace and perk. Buffy doesn’t doubt that she’s a threat, and subsequently tosses Catherine across the room.
Best Subversion: Amy wasn’t the witch after all, it was her mother using her body all along! What a tweest!
Death Toll: No one died in this episode! I suppose that makes sense, as otherwise Buffy and Amy would have been permanent members of the cheerleading team. Which means...
Grand Total: Four civilians, five villains.

Rewatch: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Witch" (S1Ep3)
Summary: When Buffy tries out for the cheerleading team, she finds that the competition is much more deadly than expected.
Written by: Joss Whedon, Dana Reston, Matt Kiene
Directed by: Stephen Cragg
Aired: March 17th, 1997
WARNING: This post contains spoilers, as well as a brief mention of abuse/neglect.
This episode. Oh. My. GOD. I am so excited about this episode, it was such a fun experience. Let’s jump in.
Recap: Buffy tells Giles that she’s planning on trying out for the cheer team, much to his disdain. During try outs, one of the girl catches fire, but Buffy saves the day. At home, Buffy tries to talk to her mom about the cheer team, but her mom is dismissive. The next day, try outs resume. Afterwards, Buffy talks to Amy who tells her that her mom was a cheerleader back in the day, and is pushing her to try out, but Amy would rather not. Cordelia makes the team, and Buffy and Amy make alternates. Cordelia begins to lose her sight, resulting in a dangerous car accident. The gang decides that this is a result of witchcraft, and all signs are pointing to Amy. During science they do a test to reveal Amy’s nature as a witch, just as another girl on the cheer team’s mouth disappears. The next day, Buffy seems off. When she crashes, Giles reveals that they must reverse Amy’s spells or Buffy will die. He and Buffy goes to Amy’s house to talk to her mom, and Buffy realizes that Amy is in her mother’s body, while her mom is in hers. They manage to reverse the spells, and Amy’s mom is banished.
Overall Thoughts: Surprisingly, there’s not a ton I have to say about this episode. It’s a filler episode, that much is obvious, but the show is starting to feel much more like Buffy.
First in foremost, this episode talks about cheerleading and parental pressures A LOT. There is quite a bit of back and forth between Buffy and Joyce that deal with this. Joyce keeps bringing up the Hemery situation and throwing it in Buffy’s face, which I feel like Buffy really does understand the weight of her actions and the consequences of such. She is trying to do better, and trying to find a way to be a normal girl and the Slayer, but Joyce puts so much pressure on her it almost feels like she’s suffocating Buffy. She is always talking about the “before” of the Hemery incident, and Buffy is realizing that there is no going back to that before.
Speaking of parental pressures, Amy and her mother are so messed up, it makes the current issues Buffy and Joyce are having seem normal. In case you missed it: Amy’s mother peaked in high school when she was a cheerleader, and in order to relive her glory days, she switched bodies with Amy. And Amy, poor Amy, is terrified of her mother. It doesn’t show right away, but the second you see it, you can’t unsee it. Her mother, not just being an evil witch obsessed with being a cheerleader, is awful. Willow at one point informs Buffy that if Amy’s mom gained even a single pound, she’d lock the cupboards and refrigerator. For some reason, no one bats an eye at this, even though it implies that Amy couldn’t eat either.
Also, when Giles and Buffy go to talk to Amy (in her mom’s body), she says that her mom switched their bodies a few months ago. This doesn’t seem right, as you can tell a distinct difference between Amy and Mom-Amy. Amy is shy and soft spoken and as I mentioned, terrified of her mother. Mom-Amy carries herself differently, has a sort of air of ‘holier-than-thou’ to her. At most, they’ve been switched a couple days.
Fashion Corner/Costuming: First, I just want to acknowledge the fact that I have actual comments on the clothes this episode. Amazing, right?
That being said, there are two outfits I love: The white or pale blue dress and dotted tights that Buffy wears when she returns home from school in the beginning half of the episode is gorgeous. And I have discovered that the lilac on Cordelia’s cheetah print top just looks really nice on her.
Additionally, there is a scene where Buffy is practicing with the cheer team, and I noticed something really cool. All of the girls have white sneakers on, except for Buffy, who wears black ones. I just think it’s interesting to visually set Buffy apart from her peers.
Characterization: Xander is a pill in this episode. I could not stand him. Every comment he made was something pervy about the cheerleaders or obsessing over Buffy. And at one point, saying something pervy about obsessing over Buffy. Literally, he “jokes” about taking polaroids of Buffy outside her bedroom window at one point. I have heard that Xander is supposed to be Joss, or based on Joss, and in this episode I can see it clear as day.
Facts: Eye of newt is not actually the eye of a frog but mustard seed.
Giles says that the spell he casts towards the end of the episode is his first casting. We later find out that isn't true.
Quotes: “I laugh in the face of danger…and then I hide until it goes away.” -Xander Harris
“Let me make sure I have this right: this witch is casting horrible and disfiguring spells…so that she can become a cheerleader?” - Rupert Giles
Apocalypse Count: 1

You’ll be credited for helping me when I include them in the gallery post. If you don’t want to be credited, just ask and I’ll leave your name off the post.
Either that or help fact check my profiles on the master list. I haven’t seen a lot of the things that these characters come from, so I don’t have a lot of firsthand knowledge. If you have seen/played/read any of the works that I have included, look through the profiles and see if there are any inaccuracies I need to edit.

Amy Rose believable and in-character foundation for villainy woohoooo (long one, strap in folks)
Amy is a princess coming from a long line of royalty.  Sonic is her boyfriend not only from her infatuation with him but also because her family, which has long pressured her to marry into another royal bloodline, expects her to be Sonic's queen.
She's had her future lain in front of her her whole life; by her family, by the tarot, by society.
She's enthusiastic, proud in her convictions, and believes in the good of all people.
Sonic expresses his dream to give the children on the Isle a chance to live in Mobius, and Amy could not be more supportive.  She knows that from who and how they were raised that they don't have very good moral values now, but that can always change!  Living life on the good side of the kingdom will surely lead these wayward souls onto the path of goodness.
Or so she expects.
She's kept a close eye on the VKs, determined to watch them grow as characters, as good people, but that doesn't seem to happen.
She's a little bothered.  She's always been able to predict the future (not literally through magic means).  But they're not following the trajectory she'd set out for them.
If anything, they’re still cheating, still lying, still breaking rules, still defacing property, as if they haven't been granted a better life than they had on the Isle.
...She still has hope for them, of course.   That's who she's always been, the believer in the good of people. Who would she be if she wasn't?
Hold onto hope, hold onto hope, hold onto hope, everything will turn out just as planned.
...And then.  The most.  Unexpected thing happens.
It happens at a game, when she's in her cheerleading attire, and Sonic is drenched in sweat and sweet, sweet victory.  He claims to have an important announcement -
Sonic's proclaimed his affections for one of the villain kids, Shadow.  With barely a mention of Amy.
And she runs.  And she's freaking out.  And she doesn't know what to do what to think what to say.
It's not like Sonic.  It's so out of character, so out of the blue, she can only think, what if -
Magic, her mind goes to.  What if someone cast a spell on him?  And if so, how, why, and... who?
Well. She draws the conclusion as to who pretty quickly.  It's in plain sight.  That damn hedgehog with the black magic that's been a proven bringer of evil.
She tried to believe in these wayward souls, oh, she tried so hard.  But it became that much more difficult when one of them ripped her life out from underneath her.
It sounds dramatic to the outsider, but they don't understand the pressure.  The expectation.  The shock.
So she grovels.  She lurks.  She watches them not out of hope that they'll do good but to catch them in the act.  Prevent any of their other misdeeds.  Hope that the spell (was it a spell?) wears off (will it ever?) and Sonic comes running back to her crying (would he?) like it was all a bad dream (was it?).
In the end, it becomes apparent that the villains, most especially Shadow, have now chosen the side of good, as they have prevented the conquering of Mobius by Black Doom.
Oh, and apparently the spell on Sonic was broken.
And no one bats an eye.
Especially not Sonic, who is still in love with the villain (ex-villain?) Shadow.
Oh, so just because they decide to do good in the end, all of their past misdeeds are forgiven?
Her life is still in jeopardy from no longer being Sonic's partner.  Her life was stolen, and it has yet to be returned, and no one bats an eye?
Her family is devastated.  Disappointed.  Crying like babies that Amy let Sonic slip through her fingers.
She has to get away.  Get away from the villains who led her to her demise, Sonic who didn't go back to her after she was abandoned and he was spelled, and the people/society that just let this all happen without any retribution.
She'd spent all her life being nice.  Kind.  Caring.  Considerate.  Enthusiastic.
...And where was her happy ending?  The one she had been promised her whole life?
She thinks, okay.  After a little bit of R&R, she'll try again.  Try to reclaim her spot.  The villains have been taught goodness, surely they won't pull nasty and illegal love spells anymore.
But imagine her dismay.  Her heartbreak, when she hears of a marriage proposal.  And the jubilant "yes" heard throughout the entire kingdom.
"A long family legacy, gone," says her family.  "Our royal status, gone."  Her life as she knew it?  Gone.
And why doesn't anybody seem to care that the ex-villains who still seem to cause trouble despite putting their past behind them are being rewarded for their misbehavior?  For ruining lives?
She decides she won't wait and stand in line like she was directed to do her whole life.  She decides to take charge.
She decides to do the very same thing that Shadow had done and take what she wants.
That night, the museum is broken into.  The Queen's Crown is reported as stolen.
She didn't quite have a plan.  But she wanted the crown, so she took it.  And then... something unexpected.
She feels a tug in her gut, holding the crown in her hands, as she's drawn towards a separate room.  A recently added exhibit, ever since the downfall of Black Doom, containing his infamous staff.
There is a voice in her mind, an insistent melody.  Hypnotizing tones, pulling her closer and closer.  Promising her the power to get everything she wants and deserves.
...She doesn't know exactly why she took it.  I mean, for the power to get what she deserves and give out the retribution that is long overdue.  But why, she's not quite sure.  She was desperate, she figures.
Amy walks around a bit.  Reveling in the magic after feeling powerless for oh so long.  Casts a spell or two in those mindless little drones who forgot the sins of the villains, who forgot her, who had been so good for them.
Sonic gets news of her, apparently.  She confronts him, gives him a chance.
"Make me your queen and we'll rule side by side.  Just like we were always supposed to."
She thinks, he can't say no.  He likes bad boys (gender neutral), if he must've fallen for Shadow in his days of evil.  So he should revel in her new villainy as well.
"...I like the old Amy better."
She falters.  Unexpected.  Unexpected, again.
"She wouldn't want to hurt innocent people."
He considers her.  Looks at her cautiously.  Extends his hand to her, shivering in apprehension.
"...Just, give me the staff
and I'll forgive you."
She can't believe it.  It's so unexpected.  Not just that. It's unbelievable.
Forgive her?  For what?  For putting all of her good in one place and getting nothing out of it?
For being shunned by her family for not being able to keep Sonic, for reasons out of her control?
For giving those who had wronged everyone the payback they deserved?
"...You'll forgive me?" she says incredulously.
She can't believe her ears.  She cannot.  Believe.
"I don't think so."
And she concludes, "A silly little spell isn't good enough for you.  It isn't good enough for anyone."
She has nothing to apologize for.
BRUHHHHHH AMYYYYY GIRL AAA-
Once again, the first instance of "Amy as the villain in a sonadow story" I've ever gotten into because SKDJXCSVDV BRUH HOLY SHIT-
Skdbdcd Queen of Mean Black Arms Amy sounds like it'd make for such a sick character design, too.
Is this going to be a full fic once the workshopping is done? I'd inhale it.

Ranking every teen drama I've watched
I have gotten really into teen dramas lately, because it's quarantine I can't go out and have fun, but I can still watch other people my age going out and having fun and doing things I don't get to do. Anyway I haven't seen all teen dramas, I was never interested in supernatural ones, so you won't find Vampire Diaries and similar shows on this list.
From worst to best:
The Secret Life of the American Teenager
I will never understand how this show ran for five seasons. It will forever remain a mystery to me. This show is so bad it's good. The writing resembles a wattpad story, Amy's pregnancy is inconsistent (like how was she five months pregnant for like five or six episodes, aren't the episodes supposed to be set a week apart?), the acting is bad (that is not to say that Molly Ringwald or Shailene Woodley are bad actresses, obviously they're not, I'm talking about Amy's sister that has the same facial expression no matter what her mood is supposed to be), some of the views this show expresses are very old-fashioned and damaging (the madonna-whore binary, the fact that they can't even utter the word abortion) and every single male character on this show is a creep and a cheater. I can't believe I watched like thirteen episodes of this. I will never get that time back.
Weirdest moment: "I'm a whore!" "Well, you're my whore." (Was this supposed to be romantic??)
Best moment: none
Glee
This is going to be unpopular and don't get me wrong, I like Glee, but I feel like the writers put much more thought into the musical numbers than the storylines. Again, Quinn's pregnancy is inconsistent (but I'm starting to think TV shows are always inconsistent about pregnancies), the characters don't look like they're in high school at all, the cheerleaders wear their uniforms 24/7 for no reason (Quinn even wore it to her sonogram, like seriously?) the whole celibacy club thing is weird and Mr Schue is a terrible teacher. However, the visuals and the musical numbers are great, Sue Sylvester is iconic (albeit also a terrible teacher) and some of the scenes are really emotional (Kurt singing I Wanna Hold Your Hand made my sister cry) so overall, it's pretty good.
Weirdest moment: Finn praying to grilled cheese (what??)
Best moment: Quinn giving birth to Bohemian Rhapsody, Kurt singing I Wanna Hold Your Hand
Dawson's Creek
I LOVE their 90s' outfits and Joey and Pacey are really otp material, but I just can't stand Dawson! He got mad that Joey didn't tell him about his mother's affair, as if it was her place to get involved. She was 15! It's understandible she didn't want to get tangled into that mess. He also slut-shamed Jen in a really gross way. He literally stopped talking to her for a day when he found out she isn't a virgin. Why are both Joey and Jen into this guy?? This would've been a much better show if it was called Joey's Creek or Pacey's Creek.
Weirdest moment: the way Dawson's mom confessed her affair to her husband. I don't think any irl human would use this choice of words. Also that scene where Dawson's father was teaching him how to kiss while Joey was watching. Cringe.
Best moment: any time Joey and Pacey are bickering. My shipper heart!
Pretty Little Liars
I loved the book version of this, but the TV version seems way too dramatic. First of all, they romanticized Aria and Ezra's relationship (ewww) and made the whole thing seem much more overdramatic. I don't know how to explain it, I mean the books are also dramatic but the TV show somehow took it to a whole new level. None of the girls look like they're in high school, but I love the way they dress and do their makeup. It's almost as though the writers put more thought into their outfits than storylines. I still loved watching it until Netflix took it off, though.
Weirdest moment: Spencer somehow trying to block A's number from her laptop in the middle of a park and then being confused that it didn't work. Weren't you supposed to be the smart one, Spencer?
Best moment: Haleb in the shower, hiding from Hanna's mom.
Skins
This is a classic. Effy is iconic (I somehow heard about her even before watching Skins) and the musical number at the end of season 1 was out of nowhere but still somehow fit perfectly into the story. I also give this show point for being one of the few TV shows where teen characters are actually played by real life teens. They look their age, talk their age (no "I reject reality" or other cringy lines like that) and aren't unrealistically perfect like characters from American teen dramas tend to be. They look like people you might actually meet in high school. However the show loses points for all the continuity errors (are 8 episodes supposed to be the whole school year??) and the number of unneccessary death/tragic accidents. It seemed kind of over-the-top and unneccessarily dark and brutal at times.
Weirdest moment: Chris's graphic death
Best moment: Wild World
Euphoria
The Gen Z American version of Skins, but with better visuals. Much better. I loved the aesthetic, the colors, the lighting and glitter. Zendaya's a great actress and I give this show points for casting an actual trans actress in the role of Jules. However I find it weird that all guys on this show are complete irredeemable assholes (except of Jules's dad and Ethan that is). Are we supposed to just root for the girls and not the guys? Also I find it hard to believe that any of these characters are actually 16/17. They have sex all the time (yeah teenagers have sex sometimes but on this show they treated Kat as some kind of a chaste nun for being a virgin at 16) and have seemingly no rules and no curfew. It would've been much more believable if they were in college.
Weirdest moment: Nate breaking into Tyler's house, beating him up and then taking a shower. The audacity this guy has!
Best moment: "You did this to me!" and Rue having an anxiety attack on the stage in theater class
Gossip Girl
I know this is also an unpopular opinion, because many claim Gossip Girl is the best teen drama ever, but for me it just got way too soapy as the seasons went on. The first two seasons were believable, even though they didn't really look like they were in high school, but after that it was just more and more weird plot points. I will give this show points for the fashion (I mean Blair's headbands and school uniform inspired a fashion line), the acting ("I killed someone"- iconic) and the choice of background music (Nate and Serena kissing to Paparazzi, Thanksgiving with Watcha Say). Despite the wild twists and turns of events, I just had to keep watching because this show had me hooked.
Weirdest moment: Bart Bass somehow flying off the building for no reason (seriously, what he did there had no logical explanation and defied laws of physics), Dan being Gossip Girl, Bart faking his death and returning more evil than before, Serena becoming Gossip Girl, the affidavit, everyone randomly stopping going to college... there are so many but Bart takes the cake I guess
Best moment: the Thanksgiving flashbacks from season 1, Dan placing a plastic crown on Blair's head
Freaks and Geeks
This is one of the few shows where high school is depicted realistically. It's not all glitter and parties and not everyone has sex and does drugs. Okay, I admit, the bullying was over the top and it was weird how no adults cared but other than that, it was pretty spot-on. It was emotional without being too dramatic and far-fetched and also had funny moments. Yes some of the characters may have been stereotypes but at least the show seemed self-aware of that. It's truly a shame we only got 18 episodes of this show, while The Secret Life of the American Teenager somehow got five seasons??? I don't get it.
Weirdest moment: when Cindy suddenly got super mean once she started dating Sam
Best moment: Daniel showing up at Kim's doorstep, Sam breaking down in tears in the end of 'Garage Door'
Gilmore Girls
I'm not sure this one counts as a teen drama, maybe it's more of a dramedy but I'm still including it here. It's funny, the dialogue is witty and full of obscure pop-culture references and the relationships between generations complex. Same as with Freaks and Geeks, the portrayal of high school is pretty realistic. Characters are shown studying and taking tests and not just partying all the time. However the show loses points for getting weirdly soapy in the 7th season. The dialogue wasn't as good and the camera angles were soap opera like and the storylines weren't very good either. You could really tell the show changed show-runners. The earlier seasons are the best. It's hard to explain but something about them feels cozy like a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate on a rainy day.
Weirdest moment: Lorelai marrying Chris and then making the whole "you're the man I want to want" speech, Lorelai defending and loving Dean for no reason
Best moment: Rory's graduation speech, Rory yelling at Chris and calling him out for not having been there for her, Then She Appeared, "Yes Emily, you may go first"... there are so many!

Watching Stargirl 1x01 for the vine
-Oh, we’re having that Smallville thing where they’re trying to insert Marvel Time into an otherwise contemporary series by pretending that the old-school JSA ‘ten years ago’ was also, like, the Greatest Generation and not the Obama Administration. Admittedly, not a lot of ways around it, but it amuses me that I guess in this universe, there was a big retro sock hop craze back in that farflung year of 2010.
-Maybe this is damning with faint praise, but I do prefer the cliche bomb high school drama of mean girl cheerleaders and bullying jocks over an ‘update’ like the MCU Spider-Man, where Flash Thompson is a mean nerd???? However, while it’s been a loooong time since I read the comic, I have an inkling this stuff might all be original to the show, so don’t listen to me.
-For a small Midwestern town, Blue Valley is really diverse. Well, at least they’re not doing an ‘evil whites vs. nice minorities and white women’ thing like Star Wars.
-Amy Smart’s reached the mom phase of her career? That can’t be right, she was a sexy co-ed in Road Trip and that was... twenty years ago? Oh shit, does this mean we have to brace ourselves for Tom Green being a sitcom dad? I don’t know if I can take that, dude.
-Even Joel McHale can’t make Geoff Johns’ humor not thuddingly... buh. They’re trying to be MCU irrelevant, but it’s at a moment that’s supposed to be as traumatizing and sad as Uncle Ben dying, so, uhh... bad Geoff Johns. Bad! I’m going to burn this picture of Hal Jordan now, since I know people not liking bland Silver Age superheroes hurts you deep inside.
-The Cosmic Staff really hates people talking at movie theaters. Well, can’t fault its priorities.
-I know a lot of movies are guilty of this, but while I’ve seen a ton of villains who have a gun or something and decide to walk right up to the hero, giving them a chance to punch them in the face, this is the first time I’ve seen it happen with telekinesis. You can read her mind and you can’t tell you’re going to get hit in the face?
-If I’m following the culture war correctly, cheerleading is now demeaning and sexist, while pole-dancing is empowering. I guess someone didn’t learn anything from those seven Bring It On sequels. They made those movies to educate you, Geoff Johns. I didn’t hear anyone laughing at Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack. Did you???
-So the Injustice Society has taken out the JSA and for ten years they have free rein and they... take over a small Midwestern town? I always thought evil was ambitious. If you’re attending a PTA meeting, you know your world domination scheme has gone awry.
-Anyway, it’s enjoyable enough, results varying depending on how much you like the JSA, which are real comic book comic books. They’re like the Inhumans to every other comic book’s X-Men.
