Many years ago, as a small child...

It was the early evening. Finn was curled on his father's lap, their tails intertwined, staring in fascination as they flipped through an old photo album, and his papa softly explained the memory behind each picture.

It was an activity Finn loved. It was his own story time right before bed, even if there were not many stories to tell, since most of the album was blank.

As his father rumbled about a particularly difficult hunt, Finn blinked at a picture he did not remember seeing before. In the picture was a stranger. A face that was unfamiliar. A mystery.

Long dark green hair bilowed around a dark green face, turquoise eyes crinkled by a large, mischevious grin full of sharp teeth. A cookie cutter shark with dark green scales and tail. Like him.

"Papa, who's that? He looks like me."

Finn pointed at the photo, and his father followed his direction. There was a brief pause, a pregnant silence that was heavy and rather unexpected to Finn.

"That's your dad." His father murmured, tracing his claw along that frozen, smiling face down to the necklace of teeth hung around the mer's neck.

Finn's chubby face twisted into a confused look. "But... but you're my dad."

"He's also your dad." Said his Papa patiently. "We both are."

"Oh." Finn frowned. "Where is he?"

The long stretch of silence, to long to be a pause, that followed made Finn wonder if he had said something wrong. He stared at his Papa's furrowed brows and glinting amthyst eyes, contemplating apologising, when-

"He's not here anymore, Finn." Said his Papa slowly. There was something off in his voice. Something sad. "He... passed away."

"..." Finn stared at the picture in silence for a while. "What was he like?" He blurted, the burning curiosity about this mystery dad keeping him from being quiet, like he probably should've been.

His papa sighed and tilted his head to stare at the bottled bioluminiscent algae that functioned as a lamp. He didn't answer for a long time, contemplating what to say.

"Morrigan... your dad... was warm and funny, and clever. Far too mischevious for his own good. He was always so passionate and full of life, and such a talented sorcerer..."

Finn tilted his head to the side as his father's gaze turned distant, shifting to stare out the window at something that wasn't there and reaching up to touch his necklace of orca teeth.

"...He was a smooth talker and an utterly hopeless romantic. He was so brilliant and powerful. He was so excited to meet you..." He trailed off and went quiet, frowning a bit.

"He sounds nice." Finn said as earnestly as a six year old could manage.

"Hmm." His Papa murmured, looking at him with a half smile. He still sounded so... sad. "That's one way to put it."

'Don't be sad,' Finn wanted to say. But the words didn't come. Instead, he reached out to take his Papa's hand with his own and squeezed it. That half smile brightened a little, and the squeeze was returned, and the tail coiled around his own loosened its hold.

"...Alright, Finn, time for bed now." His Papa rumbled, starting to lead him towards his bedroom. "It's getting late."

"W-wait!" Finn pawed at the purple shark's arm, eyes wide. "I wanna hear more."

Another pause. Much more light than before. Less... downcast.

"I'll tell you all about him tomorrow." His Papa said softly. "Anything you want to know."

Appearance:

Silas has amthyst eyes and long, curly dark purple hair and beard. His skin, scales, and tail are dark purple with peculiar black markings in some places, and his enture body is riddled with scar tissue. His fins are full of holes and tears. His claws are long, sharp, and black. His teeth are long and sharp and scary. He has visible stretch marks, and he's (finally) starting to get a bit chubby.

Silas has a band of black scales around his neck, and from just below that all the way to his navel are photophores that glow in the dark, which helps him camouflage and can even make him look like a school of fish from below.

Obviously, as a mer, he doesn't wear clothes, but he does wear both his and his husband's courting gifts to each other: necklaces of orca teeth and shell, each has a volute and skeletal murex shell respectively. He wears a ribcage around part of his tail as decor. Sometimes he wears his wedding jewellery as well.

Personality:

Silas is a gruff, quiet, and serious man with a bit of a sadistic streak. He does have a general no-nonsense attitude, but he is very warm and loving to Finn (and later on Chrysos) and does his best to raise Finn with the love and support he needs. He wants Finn to make friends and is the one who encouraged him to go to NRC in the first place. He's very protective and is aggressive on rare occasions (unlike when he was younger). He's clever and is prone to sarcastic or dry humour. Don't be fooled, he's quite kind when he wants to be, just few get to see it.

Some Fun Facts/Extra Info:

•Silas supplies Mrs Ashengrotto (and later on Azul) with fish along with other meats for her restaurant

•He has a deal with the tweels' parents in which he disposes of their unwanted "prey" (cough enemies cough) in return for their protection

•He is a very powerful sorcerer that is well versed in Abyssal magic

•He can see Finn's siblings as well and doesn't know what to do about them. He wishes they didn't scare Finn so much

•Azul is quite intimidated by him, lol

•Silas likes the octotrio and considers them a good match for Finn

•He allows older teens looking for extra income to work for him part-time

•He's got a soft spot for kids (teens count as kids too to him)

Iris waved dismissively, as he stared at their reflections in the glass of the aquarium wall.

" You were saying you were here for something... "

Finn sent a tight-lipped smile Iris' way. "It's alright. And no, sir, it's nothing." He murmured, trying to forget the lingering flashes of a nightmare. He followed Iris' gaze and flinched back, amthyst eyes filling with an unrecognizable emotion. "I... believe I should be going now. Goodnight, sir."

Ils ne savent que très peu mentir et ont tendance à se laisser aller à leurs émotions les plus profondes qu'ils peinent souvent à camoufler . Mais ceci ne fait pas d’eux des personnes plus faibles que d’autres, au contraire derrière tout ceci se cache en réalité des êtres intelligents, perspicaces, débrouillards et qui n'ont absolument rien à envier aux autres. Méfiez-vous de l’eau qui dort et plus encore du cercle Sapphir, qui comme l’océan réserve bien des surprises.

TOPAZ   — CHARISME LOYAUTE ET EXTRAVAGANCE . Depuis toujours Topaz représente le pouvoir et la richesse, véritable reflet de l'élite de la Dimension Magique, Topaz est un cercle où la simplicité n'a pas sa place. Chics, classes et raffinés ils se dessinent comme l'élite de demain, ceux qui seront dédiés à un grand destin et à de grandes responsabilités. D'apparence inaccessibles, parfois hautains et sectaires, ils tentent tout de même de sauver les apparences par le biais de leur charisme redoutable, mais aussi de la let de l'honneur presque princier dont font part la plupart de leurs membres. Static stops and the screen shows Vio as 2nd Year High Schooler squatting in front of a convenience store, while making some minor adjustments to his motorcycle. Such as tightening the grips and fixing up the seat.

Splatsville's rough aesthetic fits the Purple Octoling... Especially with the torn uniform and bandage wrapped around his upper torso. Fishbone sticking out of the corner of his mouth to finish the look-- Seems like he was done eating lunch for the day, so he was just knawing on it like some animal. That and mom found his box of cigs-- So this was a healthier alternative.

Just as he was about to hop onto his bike-- He was stopped by what seemed to be a rival gang from another school. Neon Green. Team Viridian. An infamous team is known to pickpocket and well.... cheat. But accuse others of cheating.

One of the members grabs Viorel by the collar.

'So yer' Team Amethyst's Violet Storm, huh? All my money is gone because of you!!' 'Yeah, mine too! You were definitely cheatin' that last race!' 'He was definitely addin' illegal mods just now-- Probably for the next race tonight!"

"Moddin' is against the rules of the races-- I didn't do shit to my bike. Ask the organizers and your fault for bettin' your cash away like that..Ugh--!!"

A punch to the face.

'Like hell we're gonna listen to some Rookie tell us off! Let's settle this Splatsville-style! We'll take back our money by knockin' the ink outta ya!'

It knocked Vio's head back-- Causing his fishbone to get knocked out from his teeth.

'Get him!'

Vio gives a little 'tch' noise in annoyance---While he likes breaking the rules, he wouldn't go as far as breaking Team Amthyst's rules, or the racing rules. Fighting was different from racing-- He felt free. Fighting was meant to survive... Racing was for freedom. And that was Team Amethyst's motto.

"If you were smart-- You wouldn't have bet on actual cheaters Team Viridian, ..."

But if a fight is what they wanted, they'll get one.

As another member was gonna throw an attack-- Vio picks up the member who had a hold of him, over his head.

'Huh--!?'

Then he threw them down against the other two who were going to attack him.

"Now, I'll show you fuckers why they call me the Violet Storm!"

The camera pans out to a 1 vs 3 fight between Viorel and the members of Team Viridian. The purple octoling pulls out a bent metal pipe and attacks the rival gang in one swift movement-- Knocking the wind out of all three members. And it's just a montage of Vio beating up the three thieves and getting the money back they stole from other racing teams.

what does silas look like 🥺

I went to a lot of detail about his appearance in this fic here, but I'll just copy-paste the description for you ^^

Silas, on the other hand, was very thin. His skin stretched just a little too taught in some places. His body was littered with scars of various degrees of severity. On his face, his abdomen, his tail, his arms, his neck... even his gills. The long, jagged scar that sliced across the gills on his neck made Azul's own gills itch.

His fins were riddled with holes and tears that hadn't healed properly. It looked painful, and it made Azul wince when he looked at them.

He was purple in hue, and his face, aged and weathered, housed the only thing he had in common with Finn appearance-wise. A pair of bright amthyst eyes that shone like gems in the light of the lanterns.

Azul's gaze eventually drifted to the necklaces that hung around Silas' neck. The teeth that were strung up on them were quite obviously orca teeth. Each necklace had a volute shell and a skeletal murex shell, respectively.

He also has a beautiful fluffy beard and something's ribcage wrapped around part of his tail as like decor, but I forgot that part 😭
