From iconic denim brands to high fashion houses and booming online retailers, the US apparel market caters to a wide range of consumers and contributes significantly to global fashion trends. Let's embark on a journey to explore the market's size, key segments, growth drivers, and the exciting future that lies ahead.
A Market Woven with Strength: The Size and Scope of the US Apparel Industry

4-10 1/10/2024
Okay So the 4th was rough with the fact i had to kick someone from my D&d group. No i do not wanna talk about it. 5th was meh because i was still sad but my brain and my friends said i did the right thing. 7th was hyper cause it was my friends sunday session day, i got a commission for baby booties and was also able to buy yarn for a crochet review. Yes juicy couture yarn im coming for ya!
Tumblr media
For people who leave under a rock or dont know what im talking about for $200...Juicy Couture is an American casualwear and dress clothing brand based in Arleta, Los Angeles, California. Best known for their velour tracksuits which became a luxury staple in the 2000s, the company was founded by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor in 1997 and was later purchased by the Liz Claiborne fashion company in 2003. Juicy Couture has turned into a global seller with their velour tracksuits and other fashions that span clothing, denim, handbags, shoes, intimates, swimwear, fragrance, accessories, sunglasses, yoga and babywear...AND IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES BACK IN MIDDLE SCHOOL!
8th i got a Janome Hello Kitty electric sewing machine KT-35 And most of it was in japanese. Thank you home ec teacher for teaching me the basics.
Tumblr media
9th i was able to get my FF game updated and talked about making a bridal market for drarf people like me.. Okay im learning how to sew/crochet dresses…and there are SO MANY that are in my etsy cart…i dont know where to begin..25% of them are sewing the other 25% crochet.. MOST VINTAGE!
Tumblr media
So i decided to take baby steps with making dresses inspired by the mood fabrics catalogue and amp them up a little.. PLEASE NOTE: if you do want to buy a dress from me in the future..please note im 4'11" and my dress size alone is a 16XL cause im a curvy woman It took me a long time to find a dress form assistant in my size alone. Also HAI brides! If you see me peeking at your dresses and commenting on them.. that means i like them and want consent to use them as inspo for my dresses.. please please PLEASE take that as a compliment.
today though imm getting not only a dice mug but also a mean girls crochet/sewing diary. Im gonna fill it up so much with the coolest sewing and crochet patterns.

MR PORTER Sale is Now Up to 60% Off and Actually Feels Kinda Manageable
Tumblr media
MR PORTER kicked off their massive spring/summer sale a couple weeks ago, and have now made their first round of further discounts, adding more merchandise to the sale and further reducing price to as low as 60% off.
I’ve previously written about how the scale of the sale makes it overwhelming to sort through. And although the current iteration includes over 7,000 products (down from 13,000 when the sale went live—sorry, guys) from hundreds of designers, to me it somehow feels more manageable than in past years.
A helpful change at this point of the sale is the addition of two new pages.
New to Sale merchandise is from a pretty short list of designers (Acne, Berluti, Brunello Cucinelli, Dunhill, Jacquemus, MR P., Nike, and Serapian).
Further Reductions, including the merchandise that’s now up to 60% off, features a much longer and more interesting list. Here are a bunch of my favorites:
A.P.C. - Parisian casual staples.
Albam - London casual staples.
Alex Mill - American casual staples (is there a theme here?) Founded by Alex Drexler (son of famed J. Crew CEO Mickey Drexler) and J. Crew/Madewell design director Somsack Sikhounmuong.
AMI Paris - More Parisian casual staples.
Aspesi - Italian label best known for their outerwear. I like this navy cotton A-1 bomber jacket.
Baracuta - I’m liking the classic G9 Harrington jackets made up in alternative fabrics like suede and wool tweed
Barena - Laidback Italian tailoring.
Bigi - Handcrafted Milanese ties, often with interesting textures.
Blue Blue Japan - everything is blue (they’re known for their use of indigo dyes) and it’s designed and made in Japan, so the name is apropos. I love the texture and detailing on this shirt jacket. All sizes are still available, a rarity this late in Mr. Porter’s sale.
Boglioli - Unstructured Italian tailoring. My Boglioli cotton jacket has been a casual spring/summer staple for nearly a decade.
Brooks England - English cycling accessories, including some lovely leather backpacks.
Caruso - My favorite ready-to-wear Italian tailoring brand.
Chimala - Japanese label inspired by mid-century American workwear.
Common Projects - Iconic Italian sneakers. Of course the white Achilles Low isn’t on sale, but other models are.
De Bonne Facture - I dare you to read Derek’s recent piece on the brand and not be inspired by their approach to sustainable, ethical fashion.
Drake’s - Iconic accessories brand that’s expanded to a complete wardrobe. Tip: Drake’s collaboration pieces also available through Aimé Leon Dore and Mr. Porter’s house brand Kingsman.
E. Marinella - Handmade Neapolitan ties from a third-generation family business.
George Cleverley - Goodyear-welted English shoes.
Gitman Vintage - Well-made American shirts based on archival designs.
Golden Bear - San Francisco brand specializing in quality outerwear.
Howlin’ - Knitwear designed in Antwerp and knit in Scotland.
Inis Meáin - Luxurious knitwear from the namesake Irish Aran isle.
John Smedley - Fine (as in, not chunky) English knitwear.
Johnstons of Elgin - Scottish cashmere accessories.
Kingsman - Mr. Porter house label with a focus on luxury tailoring. Great collaboration pieces from Drake’s (ties and pocket squares) and George Cleverley (shoes).
Lock & Co. Hatters - Well-made flat caps and trilbys.
MR P. - Mr. Porter’s “citified casual” house label. I’m really liking their suede trucker jacket.
Officine Générale - Accessible yet still interesting French style.
Outerknown - Casualwear label founded by surfer Kelly Slater.
Private White V.C. - Fantastic English outerwear.
RRL - Ralph Lauren’s vintage/workwear/Western line. I’ve been eyeing this cotton/wool/linen rollneck sweater.
S.N.S. Herning - Scandinavian knitwear. I’m loving this chunky shawl cardigan.
Sid Mashburn - Best known for their American-Italian tailoring with a Southern flair, but I’m liking a lot of the knitwear in this sale.
Valstar - Famed for their suede A-1 bombers, but don’t sleep on their overshirts and trucker jackets.
Vetements - I honestly don’t “get” Vetements, but I want to point out that their Hug Me Bear shearling slippers are still available.
William Lockie - Well-made Scottish cashmere accessories.
There are many, many more brands both in Further Reductions and in the general sale section that haven’t got additional cuts yet. I’ve also left off a few favorites that only have one or two items left. It’s definitely worth taking a moment to browse your favorites on the All Sale Designers page.

HEAVYWEIGHTS
by Alexander Freeling
Cold, like happy, is a relative term. Tell anyone from New York or Moscow that it was cold in Britain this year and you might get a pitying chuckle. But in a land without snow tyres or decent central heating, it was. At least, this is how I choose to explain my recent fascination with seriously heavy fabrics.
When the fog freezes at sunrise and sticks around all day, a 14 oz cotton is endlessly satisfying. Never mind that it’s is more commonly employed in tote bags than trousers. A good tailored trouser excels in the heavyweight range. It’s not just the extra warmth, though that’s certainly nice. They drape better. They last. And on a hanger, the sheer weight of each half of the trouser unfurls the creases from the other, so that by the next morning they scoff at ironing.
Wools also desire weights comparable to the sheep they came from. One of my earliest mistakes in the bespoke game was ordering a pair of trousers from a certain well-known Italian mill (also known to make some delightfully pricey casualwear) in 6 oz tweed. The finish was impeccable—richly textured yet refined—and of course, with the brisk walking habits of yours truly, the seat and thighs dissolved in a matter of months. We should celebrate our losses, but learn from them. Next time, I’m doubling the weight.
Beyond cloth, I’ve been looking at woven wool’s noble ancestor, the sheepskin. An indulgent form of home insulation, certainly, though an indulgence balanced in part by the fact that in these more civilized times, unindulged sheepskins are treated as one more waste product by the meat industry. Asides from that, I’ve been wondering the same thing about towelling, bathrobes, and bed linen: wouldn’t they be a bit better if they were heavier?
It’s not just practicalities that appeal to me. Beyond the warmth, the toughness, and the longevity, I feel an appreciation close to reverence. In Gravity and Grace, Simone Weil continually links our weightiness as humans to those aspects of our lives and deeds that drag us down. Our weaknesses and mistakes weigh on us. Our bodies themselves, she suggests, create a kind of drag on our souls. Weight, for Weil, is the sum of all these fears. To me it’s less about people falling down, more about making them secure. I wonder how much of Weil’s connection is cultural: it’s one thing getting plump on earthly pleasures in Paris or Nice, it’s another thing layering up in Yorkshire.
The cultural explanation seems necessary because there’s something resolutely British about heavy cloths: cords, flannels, thornproof tweeds. I think of Marling and Evans, Dugdale Brothers, Huddersfield Fine Worsteds, and cotton specialist Brisbane Moss. (If the last sounds suspiciously antipodean to you, don’t worry: it began life as The English Velvet Cord Dyeing Company.)
Amy Clampitt, an American visitor, perfectly captures the dingy British cold. In the ’70s, she wrote of “damp sheets in Dorset, fog-hung / habitat of bronchitis, of long / hot soaks in the bathtub, of nothing / quite drying out till next summer.” There’s a bit less bronchitis, but much of this seems familiar half a century on. Hardly arctic conditions, but you certainly appreciate a good heavy sweater.
