Amazon Officially Is Planning To Launch Satellites
Tumblr media
Amazon is moving quite quickly on its own plan to deploy tens of thousands of internet satellites. The company has registered for FCC permission to establish 3,236 satellites as part of Project Kuiper. The spacecraft would be grouped into 98 orbital planes, and fly at altitudes between 366 and 391 miles per hour. Amazon in a July 4 filing informed that the Federal Communications Commission its own Kuiper satellites will deliver broadband to millions of customers and businesses that currently lack sufficient access to the internet. The bureau coordinates trajectories and radio-frequency usage. They would utilize Ka-band frequencies such as those Iridium is using in its newest satellites, and Amazon is requesting clearance to generate use of anti-interference technologies to prevent headaches. And sure, Amazon is aware of the possible problems with debris. The satellites would orbit themselves within ten years, whether or not they have been in contact with Earth. As Amazon said in an application, The Kuiper System will help mobile network operators to extend wireless services. It also advised the possibility of "high-throughput mobile broadband connectivity services for aircraft, maritime vessels, and land vehicles." Amazon did not mention a timeline for placing the satellites to orbit. However, the FCC filing shows that it has been thinking about this plan for some time. SpaceX is already launching its broadband satellites and programs about three times as many. Read the full article

Amazon Is Training Its Robots To Deliver Customer Products
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Verge: Scout VP Sean Scott explains that the business has produced comprehensive digital avenues of American suburbia to accelerate the development of the bot. It has collected 3D data, real-life textures, and modeled the sidewalk to the storm drains. "We can run thousands of deliveries in simulation overnight versus taking a boat outside in the real world," Scott says. It thinks it's in the real world, which is pretty cool." Back in January, Amazon introduced Scout, a robot on six wheels about the size of a little cooler which will deliver packages directly to customers' doors. The company said it would start with six Scouts working Monday through Friday, in the daylight. The robots will follow their routes autonomously, but at least for a while, they'll be accompanied by an Amazon employee. Scott adds that he doesn't know of any other company "speaking about this level of fidelity at this scale for this sort of coaching," and that Amazon's other training device comprises an indoor robot park, and unique rigs to test the durability of this bot's brakes. Amazon's Scout robot can't climb steps, so for the moment, the organization's helpers need to take deliveries out of the robot and then hand them over on the doorstep. (Some companies are considering legged robots to make this procedure simpler.) Additionally, there are potential regulatory challenges, with a few cities such as San Francisco branding delivery robots a hassle and banning them from the sidewalk altogether. Amazon introduced Scout earlier this season and has been testing the machine in Snohomish County in Washington state, which is north of Amazon's Seattle headquarters. Customers in the test area that dictates on Amazon are eligible to possess. Scout robots to arrive at their doorstep. Amazon has not yet confirmed when or where it will expand the service. Stylesnap Is Amazon’s Latest Tool That Can Help You Make Money
Tumblr media
Amazon is releasing a quality that will make it easier to replicate a look you have observed on Instagram or a style in a magazine spread. At the company's re:MARS (machine learning, automation, robotics, and distance ) 2019 seminar, Amazon announced an impending tool called StyleSnap for the Alexa program. It can help you pick out clothing and accessories. StyleSnap is essentially Shazam for clothes, built in the Amazon mobile application. Users can take a picture or upload an image and StyleSnap can use machine learning to"match the look in the photo" and locate similar items available on Amazon.com. StyleSnap will use AI to earn style recommendations from Amazon according to user-submitted photos. There's no word on when the feature is going to be published. By relying upon deep-learning technology, StyleSnap can differentiate between different varieties of clothes such as match and flare dresses or flannel shirts, moving beyond only parsing out color or pattern. Its algorithm can then accurately pick a matching style. Amazon is even offering commissions to fashion influencers as significant as ten percent for things they advocate from the organization's own style line.
Tumblr media
Lots of startups offer similar services, including online trend giant Asos. It may be easy for AI to recognize major clothing items, such as pencil skirts or flannel shirts, but it doesn't really help consumers who can usually identify these items themselves.a The launch of StyleSnap shows Amazon isn't going to give up about the fashion business that easily, and the firm believes its experience in artificial intelligence can give it an edge over rivals. Amazon Revealed Its Newest Delivery Drone
Tumblr media
Amazon has revealed the latest version of its Prime Air delivery drone, a hybrid aircraft that's able of vertical takeoff and landing as well as continuing forward flight. The e-commerce giant says it's only months away from launching its drone delivery agency, and it has marked the event by revealing a brand new aircraft to perform the job. As the vehicle operates on six levels of movement instead of four, it is overall more stable and much better suited to coping with blows of wind. AI plays an essential role, too. It can prevent unexpected obstacles (including moving ones), obviously, but it should also be proficient in spotting cables that drones are more likely to miss, like power lines or even the clothesline in your backyard. The new drone uses a mix of thermal cameras, thickness cameras, and sonar to detect risks. With the help of machine learning models, onboard computers can automatically identify barriers and navigate them around. "From paragliders, power lines, to the corgi in your backyard, this drone has safety covered," said Wilke, Amazon's consumer globally CEO. https://youtu.be/rDj5mLtyx4o Introducing the drone onstage at Amazon's Re:MARS summit in Las Vegas, Jeff Wilke emphasized the aircraft's security features. "We know customers will only feel comfortable receiving drone deliveries if the system is incredibly safe," said Wilke. Amazon is still aiming for drones with a 15-mile selection and the capability to haul packages under 5lbs to customers within 30 minutes. The company accompanied the announcement of this new drone using a test flight movie, revealing the way the craft excels in midair. https://youtu.be/3HJtmx5f1Fc The business has previously put its aircraft into the evaluation in the US and the UK, while always seeking to improve on the technology through a range of patents which describe things such as drones that launch from moving trains, urban legends, and lamp articles. Yet, There's no mention when you could expect broadly available service, Amazon says it is prepared to start delivering packages using its drones in weeks, but save some sort of miracle transformation in aviation coverage, that timeline seems wildly optimistic. Amazon Says That They’re Just A Decade Away From Fully Robotic Shipping Warehouses
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amazon recently got some complaints when the Verge revealed it utilized a method that automatically defines the productivity rates of its warehouse workforce, and discharges slowpokes if they are too slow to move bundles. It was yet another indication that mechanization was taking over at Amazon and an especially menacing one at that. Robots in the workforce are proficient mostly at distinct and repeatable tasks for which they are programmed precisely. For the robot to do something else takes costly, time-consuming reprogramming. Moreover, robots which can perform multiple different tasks and function in dynamic environments that require the robot to view and understand its surroundings are still firmly in the domain of research and experimental trials. "There is a fallacy in the initial understanding of 'Are we going to become a lights-out fulfillment network in the Upcoming few years'" Anderson told Reuters. “In the current form, the technology is very limited. The technology is very far from the fully automated workstation that we would need.” He explained that technology would not reach to that point for about another 10 years--which, from his standpoint in the technology business, is a reasonably long time. To the 100,000 plus people working in Amazon's fulfillment facilities, and to the regional markets and social systems which need to deal with such a massive rush of automated-out-of-work workers, it might not seem like such a prolix timeline. If Amazon and its rivals automate their warehouse operations from 10 years, that means around 1 million unskilled jobs gone, with nowhere clear to replace them. According to Reuters, Amazon has 110 warehouses in the US, 45 sorting facilities, and approximately 50 delivery stations, all of which employ more than 125,000 full-time warehouse workers. However, only a portion of the work operates by robots. Right now, robots are too imprecise and awkward and need an excessive amount of training to be set up on factory floors outside quite rare use cases. However, warehouse automation is coming, whether it allows for 'dark' human-free services in a decade or even not. It is another instance where automation could undoubtedly yield major societal benefits. By all counts, Amazon warehouse work is exhausting, obnoxious, even dangerous labor. In other words, if we are ready to restrain it correctly, And spread the benefits beyond a managerial level that stands to supervise the forthcoming wave of machines. Right now, we're not. Amazon Will Make More Ads On Retailers' Web Pages
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Many retailers have mostly avoided putting ads on their websites and mobile apps because of the fear of annoying their customers or parrying them from actually buying stuff. That's now starting to change thanks to Amazon. In only a few decades, Amazon has turned itself into the third largest online advertising platform in the US, After the industry's leaders Google and Facebook. These advertisements will provide shoppers with more useful info to make their purchases and introduce them to new products they didn't know about before. These officials said they're carrying a slow and steady approach to adding more ads to avoid turning customers off. However, in a worst-case scenario, retail web pages will load slowly because of the advertisements, and clients will get annoyed by local search results filled with sites that are sponsored and display banner ads. Some have griped this already happened at Amazon, together with sponsored listings clogging the top of pages and crowding out organic search results. Additionally, retailers will have to be careful not to discuss too much of their clients' data, or they may gain a reputation like Facebook's. "It is such an easy cash, I'm sure advertisers are willing to pay a good deal because you have got customers right where you need them," said eMarketer analyst Andrew Lipsman. "But they will need to be attuned to how much this is damaging the consumer experience since in the future they do not want to turn those customers away." The online retailer now takes up 8.8% of the $129 billion digital ad market in the US, making it the third biggest ad platform after Google (37.2%) and Facebook (22.1%), according to eMarketer. Other popular internet destinations, including food delivery sites like GrubHub and ride services like Uber, are expected to join the crowd. More physical stores will come on board, too, taking advantage of their colossal visitor traffic, Forrester analyst Sucharita Kodali wrote in a December report titled Retailers: You're The Next Media Moguls. "It is the narrative of the internet, right?" Lipsman said of more ads coming to more sites. "It's what always happens in the end. Read the full article

Amazon Will Use Robots For Deliveries
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amazon is entering the robot delivery game using an electric pannier on wheels it's calling the Amazon Scout. The e-commerce giant is the latest company to try out this type of automatic, last-mile delivery solution, following a crop of startups, in addition to experiments by larger companies like Domino's Pizza and PepsiCo. The design looks similar to robots, although details concerning the Scout are slim on the ground. Actually, the Scout appears almost identical to apparatus in Starship Technologies, an Estonian startup that was an early entrant to the field. A spokesperson for Starship Technologies said "we're huge believers in autonomous delivery robots. As the company that created this category, it's great to see others realizing the potential." "We are happy to welcome Amazon Scout to our growing suite of innovative delivery solutions for customers and look forward to taking the learnings from this first neighborhood, so Amazon Scout can, over time, provide even more sustainability and convenience to customer deliveries," Sean Scott, vice president of Amazon Scout, stated in the blog article. An electrical battery and six wheels power the Scout and moves at daily walking speed. Only six devices are now testing in one neighborhood in Snohomish County, Washington, in which they will deliver packages" in daylight hours" between Monday and Friday.  According to Amazon, the robots will be accompanied by human overseers, to begin with. This is to ensure that the devices can"safely and efficiently navigate around pets, pedestrians and anything else in their path." Read the full article
