With Valentines just around the corner, it could hardly be called a surprise that Amai was choosing to get their work done in order to meet deadlines rather than take care of themself. The last thing that the confectioner wanted was to disappoint anyone that asked something of them, but it still caught Amai by surprise when they could feel their body finally start to force them to rest instead of continuing to make the brownies that they were hoping to get done.

Bracing as best they can for impact with the floor at best or the corner of the counter again at worst, but the feeling of a person being under them instead of the floor was what they were met with as they start to blink a bit, definitely more awake now than they were just a second ago.

"Y-yeah, I... A-amai is alright." The sight of the batter they worked hard on on the floor was disappointing, but they had more pressing matters to deal with, namely getting back in working order. "Really, hehe, that's great. Amai will have to make you some soon, then."

Probably after a short nap or at least an energy bar, though. "What about you? Are you alright? That couldn't have been a good fall," they ask as they try to get up off of him. Heavy as their body felt, they didn't want to keep the guy that helped them on the floor like that, especially since it was their own fault that they were in this position."

It was at least once a week Kyle had to deal with someone just dropping purely out of neglect for their own wellbeing, him included, though it was the first he'd seen this particular person hit the ground. Or well, almost hit the ground, with Kyle having been quick enough to catch the confectioner but not the confection in the process of being made, the chain reaction sending his foot slipping out from under him as batter spattered wildly about. "Woah hey- Shit!" A squeak of his sneakers across the tile, then his back was hitting the ground hard as he fell backward with Amai being pulled along with him thanks to the hold he'd gotten on their arm before the slide. It was hardly the worst he'd felt even just that day, but landing in a puddle of batter with a human body on top of his own was enough to knock a groan of pain out of him.

It took a moment to catch his breath after everything came to a stop, though when he did, his attention zeroed in on Amai as he carefully manuvered them both upright. "You alright there, doll? Sorry about the mess, it was either you or the bowl. Tastes great though, whatever it was gonna be."

I love ninjas and I really like One Punch Man (my favorites are Saitama, Sonic, Amai Mask, Flashy Flash and Zombieman), so much so that I have an OC for this series (which I'm still looking for a good name for her)

Flashy Flash Yandere Headcanons

Ok, as I mentioned before, I like ninjas and I like Flashy Flash, but let's be honest, his personality isn't the best, in fact, it sucks

This guy doesn't even consider people weaker than him, he doesn't pay attention to them and basically acts like they're stones in his way, he's proud, arrogant and borders on rude

So sorry to all the civilian darlings, this ninja won't even notice you beyond saving you and leaving you in a safe place

So at the very least, to get his attention you have to be an A-class heroine in the highest ranks (top 3) or be an S-class heroine like him, and even then it takes more than just power to get his full attention, with power you get his interest, but if it were only that he would have noticed Tatsumaki in a more romantic and not challenging way

This ninja's level of narcissism can rival Amai Mask, so in addition to being a strong heroine you must be very pretty, to the level of beauty that as soon as you appear in a room all eyes turn to you

Basically you have to be a mix of supermodel and strength equal to or greater than him, oh and you must also be incredibly fast because he doesn't wait for anyone

Having already specified how to get his attention, we are going to go to the behavior as a yandere, he is aware that his feelings are not normal, due to his upbringing as a ninja (where they were taught to suppress all emotion and become perfect weapons), but on the other hand, he feels that he has suffered enough and he also deserves to be happy and have a relationship (because first him, second him, third him)

His darling won't notice that he's interested in her thanks to his poker face and cold demeanor, she won't even notice that he's following her, because yes, he's a high-level stalker, when he wants to meet you to get closer to you he'll investigate your entire life and past so that there are no surprises for him

Also, it's a good way to know how to approach you and court you, even though he's terrible at it because he has zero experience in that field

When he finds out what city you live in, he'll patrol the area you live in so that both you (although it's not necessary since you're strong) and your home are safe from any monsters that decide to attack the city, consider it an act of love

Although he's a solo worker, you're a clear exception to the rule so whether you like it or not you'll work as a team with him (although he'll try to do everything just to keep you safe/impress you), basically you'll be there to cheer him on

At some point he would have considered kidnapping you if it weren't for the fact that you're strong and very famous, your disappearance would attract a lot of unwanted attention so he discarded the idea

He watches you at night when you sleep (when he has free time to do so of course), he knows by heart what your home looks like inside and sometimes he uses drugs to make sure you don't wake up so he can lay down next to you and on the nights when he feels extra naughty he can touch you inappropriately, he's a tits man so they'll get his most attention (size doesn't matter, boobs are boobs)

Even so, he'll wait for both of you to get into a relationship to initiate sexual relations (not because he's respectful or romantic but because he's a virgin with very little interaction with women and is just researching the female body)

Hi. Can you share a cool fact about Israel? How's the fan culture over there? You guys got conventions? 👀

BOY DO WE

There are 4 big conventions in Israel, run by two organisations- the Israeli Society For Science Fiction and Fantasy(known shortly as "Ha'Aguda), and AMAI, the Israeli Manga and Anime Organization.

The Aguda's conventions are the biggest and most well-known. There's Icon during Sukkot and Olamot("worlds") during Passover, and both are always in Tel Aviv. Those are the comic-con of Israel- they have everything geeky and fanish, from every type of media. They last 2-3 days, and are free to enter but you have to pay to go into specific events. Those are my favorites!

AMAI's conventions are centered around Japanese media and culture. There are also two- Harucon at Purim(the closest con), and Animatsuri at the summer. Those cons costs money to enter, but once you're inside you can go anywhere as long as there are free seats. Those cons are in Jerusalem, and are very big. They also sometimes include a run of an Animusical(anime-inspired original musical production done by members of the community)

Other then those 4, we have lots of smaller cons done by different organizations and for different specific topics- there's Meorot which is a Harry Potter and LOTR con set during Hannukah, the Aguda also has Mitopia in the summer, that's centered specifically around books, and there's Draconicon for DND and RPG players! And a lot more! Last year I also had the chance to go to the first Sha'atnez, a con surrounding specifically Jewish Fantasy and Fantastic Judaism. It was fantastic and I REALLY hope it'll be an annual thing.

Interesting thing about fan culture here- the main two groups involved in it are queers, and religious orthodox jews. Both are in the fannish scene in much larger percantages then they make of the general population! I suspect the religious thing is because Shabbat-keepers have a lot of time when all they can do is read, and queers are already very dominant in such communities, but it's still very cool I think:)

Anyway fun fact, I've been in the artist alley for... 6-7 cons up untill now? My favorite to sell in was Noar Kore which sadly does not exist anymore but I REALLY like doing those booths.

Chorus is the oldest of 12, a large family even for insect beastman standards. When he was young, he had a terrible accident, which caused the amputation of both of his arms. The hospital bills sent his already struggling lower middle class family into mountains of debt. With both of his parents constantly leaving town for work, Chorus was left to take care of his younger siblings. He took up lots of odd jobs to put food on the table for him and his siblings, usually doing such with old, half-unusable prosthetics. His most recent job was his most well-paying, as a part-timer at a big tech company. He’s surprisingly proficient in technology, and there is where he got the money and resources to upgrade his own prosthetics. He had to quit the job recently when he came to Night Raven.

I think there's a lot wrong with Taro, starting with him as a character. He is entirely bland. He looks bland, acts bland, and his character is all over the place.

For instance- if he sees a body, he will run away, not even bothering to bring Osana with him, despite his love interests doing that for him. Additionally, nothing about him says that he would bother running up to an armed, masked killer and rip the mask off. Not only would I doubt that Taro would do that as a person, but I believe that any lonely coward would simply run away.

One thing that I'd like to do to make his character more interesting is to give him a goal, a hobby, or a particular liking. This in my story will be books. Or, more precisely, the stories he hears in books. Growing up reading them, he has an attachment to them and strives (internally) to become someone great someday.

Of course, he's since grown out of super hero's, but his mind is still impressionable enough to be convinced to do something unique and meaningful with his life. That's why I think that each rival should push him towards doing something with his life. Additionally, him being so open to exploring could explain why he would be so willing to get with anyone who confesses to him (so long as he's known them for more than a day).

I won't put all of my ideas right here, but they'll be underneath the cut instead.

With Osana, I feel like he always internally felt held back by her attitude. By no means does he think that she's a bad person, but part of him always felt obligated to listen to her constant bullying. This kept him from trying a lot of things as a child, and although he's grown out of such anxieties now, properly talking with her about how she acted after she confesses could help motivate him to try the things he never did as a child alongside Osana.

The club leaders (Amai, Kizana, Oka and Asu) would push him to follow their careers. I imagine that baking could be a simple but fulfilling career for him, acting could let out his inner child's wishes to act out what he can't actually be in real life. I'm not entirely sure what he would do in an Occult Club of all things, but I'm sure it could feed into his habit of reading. Maybe he could become some sort of theorist? With Asu, I'm sure getting in shape could help him be more confident whenever he tries to be heroic.

If I could trust Mida to pick a less flirtatious and illegal relationship with Taro, I'd say she could motivate him to become a teacher like her.

The medical field pays well and you have the potential to help many people. Not only could Muja help Taro learn this, but he would also love to have such a well-off job.

I'm sure Hanako's clinginess and paranoia kept Taro from doing many things - much like Osana, but maybe with her help, he could become a splendid family man? Maybe he'd work well with children. (Don't worry, I by no means want Hanako to be Clingy to "keep her brother to herself." I'll explain the details in a later post.)

Megami could certainly motivate him to become a detective. After surviving such a possibly traumatic event, there's no way you wouldn't want to learn how to point out and investigate things like this to avoid other incidents.

Additionally, all of these hopes could make Taro's mental health deteriorate by the end of the game. If you had these continous hopeful thoughts being shot down plus possible losing the chance to ve in romantic relationships with outstanding people only to figure out that it was because of some psychopath you bumped into once, I'm sure you'd lose yourself as well (depending on how much damage is truly done). This could all pile into a bad ending where Taro "eliminates" Aishi for potentially ruining his life- and even better partnering with Info-Chan possibly.

Sobre os ômegas dessa fanfic que vocês deverão saber:

FISIOLOGIA; todos os ômegas tem útero, sem exceção, e eles não detém de esperma. Seus pênis (em caso de machos) são bem menores que os dos alfas chegando ao máximo de doze centímetros, ao invés de testículos eles tem uma pequena cavidade que se abre no oitavo mês de gestação para que eles possam parir os filhotes. Ômegas tem um cio mais longo em toda lua crescente, durando de cinco a sete dias completos.

GRAVIDEZ; a gravidez é um momento delicado para ômegas, alguns ficam ariscos e outros gostam da companhia de seu alfa a todo momento. As gestações de alfas duram entre sete e oito meses e as de ômegas duram nove meses completos. Sua barriga se desenvolve assim como mamas cheias de leite. Durante o cio o ômega irá se preparar para receber o filhote com um ninho quente e escondido, garantindo que os dois ficarão seguros assim como seu alfa ficará em alerta e irá provê-los, guardando seu ômega e filhotes sendo bem territorialistas e agressivos com quem entra em seu território sem autorização.

— [Nome]. Você precisa se acalmar. — Gojo Satoru, seu melhor amigo falou tentando apaziguar o alfa que andava de um lado para o outro. Ele sabia que seu melhor amigo tinha opiniões muito diferentes sobre esse assunto, e ele não conseguia entender o porquê, mas ainda queria estar ao lado de seu amigo mais próximo e único.

— Não! Não, não preciso me acalmar! Não posso fazer isso. Me recuso a fazer isso! Não vou permitir isso na minha mansão! Caralho! Um casamento!! — O brasileiro latiu para seu amigo de cabelos prateados e olhos azuis penetrantes.

— Mas essas são as regras dos líderes de seu clã! Dos seus pais! De todos na verdade. É a lei. Você não pode ir contra a lei. Especialmente você, um nobre e herdeiro! Porra! O próximo líder  — Satoru tentou argumentar, se jogando no sofá da sua casa, agarrando a almofada que tinha uma fronha colorida.

O albino sabia que se o dono de cabelos [claros/escuros] recusasse isso,  teria consequências pesadas para seu trabalho como herdeiro e feiticeiro, e toda sua existência aqui. 

Isso não era uma coisa menor, era lei. A lei foi criada para garantir descendentes suficientes para o país e especialmente, futuros fortes feiticeiros. A taxa de natalidade caiu drasticamente nos últimos vinte anos até que essa lei entrou em vigor, obviamente foi apoiada por todos clãs, principalmente o clã Zenin, Gojo e o seu, Salazar.

Todo Alfa que ainda era solteiro aos trinta anos era forçado a se casar com um Ômega. Qualquer Ômega. Os líderes de determinado clã escolheriam com qual Ômega o Alfa deveria se casar se o Alfa não tivesse um parceiro até a data definida para seu casamento forçado.

No caso dos três grandes clãs, eles fizeram parceria entre si para casar os seus. Satoru foi um rebelde, não aceitando que os velhotes de seu clã escolhessem e por fim, casando com um ômega que já tinha filhotes. Suguru Geto, no caso, agora, Suguru Gojo.

A data do casamento de [Nome] seria em dois dias. E é claro que ele tinha um Ômega com quem quisesse se casar, mas não sabi se o mesmo aceitaria. Tinham deixado para avisar o coitado do alfa em cima da hora, exatamente porque sabiam que ele iria negar.

O dono de olhos verdes mal tinha contato com algum a não ser sua mãe. Ele observava outros, mas nunca, nunca tinha tido uma conversa descente, principalmente com aquele que tinha interesse. Com o passar dos anos, sendo criado por alfas extremamente rígidos, os ideais foram forçados em sua mente.

Uma parte do pobre Salazar, não queria vê-los, não queria estar perto deles. Ele queria fingir que eles nem existiam. O coitado mal sabia conversar com um ômega sem gaguejar de vergonha ou ser extremamente profissional.

E agora ele era forçado a se casar com um deles? Deixá-los em seu espaço, em sua casa, em seu lar? Compartilhar tudo pelo que ele trabalhou tão duro?

Isso não era um problema e tanto, o problema é ser um casamento arranjado! Um casamento só arranjando para um alfa que não foi ensinado como deveria tratar corretamente um ômega.

Deveria deixá-lo viver no luxo que ele criou para si mesmo? Ou deveria conquistar outras coisas para provar que era forte? Como um Salazar, um que carregava a maldição de seu antessesor, era difícil ficar no mesmo lugar por mais tempo, era que não queria voltar para o lugar de onde veio. Foi muito doloroso. Muitas lembranças da pessoa que ele havia perdido.

E agora ele havia encontrado um lugar que ele realmente gostava, ele havia até encontrado alguém que ele via como algo próximo a um amigo. Ele havia construído uma vida aqui. Ele tinha um bom emprego e uma mansão muito bonita para chamar de lar. 

Mas agora, a única vez em que ele ficou mais tempo em um lugar, onde se sentiu em casa, essa lei idiota o pegou. 

Ele encontraria uma maneira de se livrar daquela coisa estúpida o mais rápido possível. [Nome] sabia que havia controles a cada poucas semanas após o casamento forçado porque os líderes sabia que havia Alfas como ele que não queriam se casar. Na verdade, era a maioria dos Alfas. Então ele precisava ter cuidado. 

Mas depois que os controles acabassem, ele encontraria uma maneira. Dar dinheiro a ele, comprar uma casa do outro lado da Terra e deixá-lo viver uma vida fácil, onde não precisasse mais se preocupar com nada.

Algo nesse sentido provavelmente era a melhor maneira para que ele não o dedurasse. Porque se o fizesse...

— Essa é uma lei ridícula. Estamos em 2024. Eu achava que casamento forçado era coisa da idade média. Eu achava que esse país era mais desenvolvido do que isso! Forçar um nobre, a se casar com uma coisa tão estúpida e densa! Isso é simplesmente... Isso é uma piada! Uma piada de mal gosto, puta que pariu!!! Que desgraça! — O alfa rosnou furiosamente, e jogou tudo, os seus papéis, a caneta e a tão amada cobra entalhada no chão.

O albino pulou do sofá, largou a almofada e caminhou até você, colocando as duas mãos no peito para apoiá-lo.

— Você tem que se acalmar. Você não quer destruir sua linda casa, não é? Eu sei o quanto você gosta desta mansão. Você a construiu do zero só para você. Acalme-se, [Nome], deixa de ser um surtadinho. — homem de cabelo prateado e voz melódica cantou. Não se lembrava de como a amizade tinha começado, desde que se lembrava que o outro estava ali, é por isso que os dois tinham uma conexão mais profundo. Eles tinham um entendimento um do outro em um nível que normalmente ninguém entenderia.

O alfa acenou positivamente, abrindo os lábios e puxando uma grande quantidade de ar para seus pulmões. De maneira quase instantânea seus músculos relaxaram e um som baixinho deixou [Nome].

 — Você está certo. Obrigado, Satoru.

— Eu sei que estou me repetindo e talvez você não queira ouvir, mas os Ômegas, em casamento arranjados, não tem muita escolha, entende? Meu Ômega, Suguru, ele é... doce e gentil e como qualquer outra pessoa, sabe? Ele só quer ser amado. Talvez você possa…

O Salazar o empurrou para longe dele e seus olhos brilharam novamente.

— Não! Pare com essa bobagem. Você acertou, eu não quero ouvir isso. Se você não quer ser expulso, eu aconselho você a ficar de boca fechada e não me falar sobre sua vida pessoal com o parceiro, só o Suguru que pode! — O Alfa mostrou suas presas para seu único amigo e rosnou ameaçadoramente para ele.

 Este foi o único assunto sobre o qual eles brigaram. [Nome] não se via obrigado a escutar seu melhor amigo falando sobre sua vida matrimonial, então só aguentava Suguru.

De maneira inevitável, ele se lembra que Suguru também seria amarrado a um casamento arranjado contra a sua vontade, exatamente na época a qual estava iniciando o namoro com Gojo. O albino, para não perder seu amor, rapidamente se casou com o moreno.

— Tudo bem. Tudo bem. — O albino falou levantando as mãos em rendição — Eu vou embora. Espero que você encontre uma solução para seu problema e talvez, nem precise, vá que o ômega que você case, é exatamente um dos Zenin que gosta.

Satoru acenou com a cabeça para o amigo e deu a ele um de seus sorrisos tortos antes de se virar e se ver fora da bela mansão do Salazar.

[Nome] Salazar mora no Japão há vinte anos. Sua mansão foi construída com pesadas pedras pretas com uma cerca afiada que a cercava com ornamentos de cobras embutidos no aço prateado.

O alfa tinha muito dinheiro, mentiria caso falasse que a renda era baixa. Com o trabalho de feiticeiro Jujutsu, ele ganhava mais do que poderia gastar. Ele seguiu o negócio da família mais por tédio e alegria maliciosa de ver as maldições sofrerem e implorar que ele poupasse suas vidas do que por ganância por dinheiro.

Ele realmente precisava ir a casa central agora, ele tinha que, infelizmente entregar o relatório da última missão, a qual mal acabara de chegar.

Chegando a casa principal, ou Região das cobras, como as pessoas comuns diziam, [Nome] encontrou um de seus “parceiros” - na verdade, parceiro de seus pais - em frente a enorme casa em estilo tradicional japonês.

— Oh, meu, Sr. Salazar. Prazer em conhecê-lo.

O Salazar fez uma reverência educada ao velho homem, que após uns segundos o analisando o reconheceu sendo Naobito Zen’in, o cuidador dos ômegas de seu clã, que basicamente arrumaria os casamentos para cada um.

— Meu Deus, Senhor Zen’in . É realmente um prazer vê-lo. Posso perguntar o motivo que veio ao meu clã?

— Sim, vim conversar com seus pais — Naobito era um homem velho e feio, com cabelos curtos e lambidos, seus olhos não mostravam emoções na maioria das vezes, mas dessa vez mostravam algo, ganância e felicidade — Ah, antes que eu esqueça. Ouvi dizer que você precisa se casar amanhã. Sua data para o casamento já foi marcada. Por que você simplesmente não escolhe um ômega dos centros de reprodução como a maioria faz, em vez de apenas ser designado para um totalmente aleatório? — Ele perguntou com a sobrancelha arqueada, como se quisesse testar algo.

[Nome] respirou fundo antes de começar a perder os nervos novamente.

— Senhor, desculpe-me por falar tão francamente, mas as coisas dos centros de reprodução são sujas. E usados. E nojentos. Sinto-me ofendido, extremamente ofendido com suas palavras. E... Você sabe o que estou tentando dizer. Nada que me interesse.

O Alfa de cabelos claros assentiu, um sorriso nojento em seus lábios.

— Hm, eu entendo. Embora muitos dos Ômegas designados para os casamentos também sejam centros de reprodução de Ômegas. Mas acho que posso ter outra solução para você… Uma proposta, [Nome].

Uma leve raiva tomou conta de si ao ver aquele homem se dirigindo a si pelo primeiro nome, mas esperou pelo que ele tinha em mente para si. Ele apertou e abriu as mãos e respirou fundo para se acalmar. Sua pele estava arrepiada só de pensar.

— Aqui.

Naobito entregou-lhe um cartão com um logotipo simples de seu clã, o que queria dizer?

Antes que você pudesse fazer um comentário ou questionar, o velho alfa continuou a falar.

— Vim ao seu clã, exatamente para fazer a proposta aos seus pais de oferecer um dos ômegas de meu clã a você. Foram educados de maneira rígida, claro, os ômegas não podem ficar em uma família nobre sem utilidade nenhuma, eles são muito densos e incapazes de se tornarem uma parte funcional da sociedade. Então, pensei em te oferecer um dos que são treinados e criados para se casarem com um Alfa que está na idade em que deve se casar. Esses ômegas são de perfeita obediência e nunca entrarão no seu caminho. Conheço um que pode ser um par perfeito para você. Encontre-me aqui depois do seu compromisso, se estiver interessado. 

Salazar ouviu atentamente o que o ancião acabara de lhe revelar. A proposta era intrigante: unir-se a um ômega, cuidadosamente treinado desde tenra idade com o único propósito de ser desposado por um Alfa. Fascinante. Certamente, tal união parecia uma alternativa mais digna do que a degradação dos centros de reprodução. No entanto, antes de tomar qualquer decisão, ele sabia que precisava contemplar a realidade com seus próprios olhos.

— Tudo bem. Estou satisfeito. Irei com você, Naobito, e fico agradecido em me oferecer um dos ômegas de seu clã.

O sorriso asqueroso dele aumentou.

— Não, problema, Salazar. Eu sei que você está disposto e é capaz de se agradar com um ômega nosso, e também, juntar os clãs é tudo o que procuramos. — O homem geralmente frio e controlado piscou para ele e soltou uma gargalhada alta e áspera, continuando o caminho que inicialmente traçava, provavelmente em direção ao seu clã.

O jovem alfa não negaria que ficou atordoado com as palavras do homem, mas lentamente ele entendeu o que aquele comentário significava. Quando finalmente entendeu, sorriu.

“ Nada mal, velhote. Nada mal.”

Como não existiam leis no Jujutsu que considerassem os Ômegas como seres humanos, eram vendidos de diversas maneiras como se fossem objetos ou propriedades, isso era completamente legal.

OPM Manga Update 233 Review: Evaluation

I had initially postponed writing this until the next chapter, but I've come to realise I have so much meta to write that it's best I do each chapter individually.

Summary because it's been a moment

The first part of the chapter is set in the mountains above City G where the Council of Swordmasters is based. At their building, the three disciples are reviewing what they've been able to unearth about Sweet Mask. It's precious little, with nothing available before his signing up as a hero. Iaian surmises that this fits in with the information that Bushidrill has been able to uncover on Amai's shifting appearance. They consider that the shape-shifting could be a special power, but in light of his behaviour towards Do-S's hostages, was much more likely a sign of progressive monsterization. Iaian expands on it by recounting what he'd seen of Sweet Mask at the surface when he'd seen a monster struggling to keep its humanity. With surprising empathy, Iaian states that it's often those who've lost something who know its true value. They decide to keep a careful eye on Sweet Mask but say nothing to Atomic for now. Okamaitachi hopes that they end up glad to have kept Sweet Mask's hands clean.

Elsewhere, we see Kamikaze (it is not right to call him Atomic Samurai in this context) and Nichirin paying their respects at a shrine dedicated to successive generations of the Swordmasters. They are accompanied by two young people, here to take the places of the slain Swordmasters. We are treated to Yuta's thoughts of hunting down whatever remains of the Monster Association. Nichirin apologises to the pair to say that if he'd been stronger -- but Shido cuts him short. His father lived by the sword, after all, and falling in battle was an honourable death. Besides, as a bodyguard, seeing Nichirin alive would have pleased him.

Speaking of that, given how gravely Nichirin had been injured, it naturally leads to Kamikaze asking after the old man's health. Nichirin sits on the ground and hitches his robes up to show a pair of cybernetic legs. His entire lower half is now mechanical and he's apparently no worse off for it [Aside: I guess the doctors who butchered Air back in Chapter 182 weren't joking about Metal Knight's skill in cyborg medicine].

He stands up, and, declaring that circulating one's chi through body and weapons made them part of a whole -- artificial bodies included -- unsheathes his sword and slices at an apple that he tossed into the air. The apple is apparently unharmed, but the cliff face in the background is cleaved. The apple falls to the ground, and Shido and Yuta marvel at the accuracy of the old man's cutting the cliff but sparing the apple. Nichirin states that he did cut the apple as well. Kamikaze picks up the apple and explains that this is Nichirin's special technique: it's so fast and finally that the Apple rejoined itself, apparently unharmed. He is relieved the old man is his usual self.

It's now Nichirin's turn to ask him a question. Now that his rival Bang has retired, will Kamikaze stay at the Hero Association? Kamikaze looks wistful for a moment as he recalls himself leading the charge to take down Psykos-Orochi. He says that, indeed, he'd initially gone only to challenge himself, but now he had experienced something that he couldn't get anywhere else. Besides, he still had one more person whose strength he needed to fathom -- we are shown that it is King. He'd decide after then.

As he takes his leave, Nichirin thinks that Kamikaze has changed. Being thrown among a variety of strong fighters with vastly different strengths had broadened his mind. Maybe being a hero wasn't so bad after all. He says that last part out loud to Yuta's puzzlement.

We cut to the hero Association and to Saitama and Genos approaching it. Inside, Forte is putting the finishing touches to a dog house Black Sperm is disgusted, but shelter and food, even if it is only dog food, are what he needs right now, at least until he rebuilds his cell count. Saitama and Genos heave into view and Forte greets them. Black Sperm rushes behind the dog house in well-justified fear. His life wouldn't be worth a scrap of cigarette ash if Genos caught sight of him. Fortunately, Genos is a bit distracted, first by the dog's name, then by the news that Forte lives next door to Saitama. He wastes no time in evicting Forte.

I have a feeling the dog is going to be trouble

Finally, we're in the M-City branch of Mouse Sushi, the cheap rotating sushi place with the infamous nasty t-shirts Saitama loves. Atomic Samurai is there with his disciples, having paid a futile visit to King's residence. There's only one problem with this place: someone keeps taking every plate they have their eye on. After the fatty tuna plate is taken, Atomic stands up to confront the person only to find that is King. The chapter ends with Atomic standing over an anxious King and asking if he could talk to him for a few minutes.

Whew, if you think this is meaty, wait until we get to the meta. Grab a drink!

Meta

I really struggled with thinking where to even begin with this one. Well, let's take it like a hot bowl of soup, start on the outside and work our way in.

The Real Kaijin Shows Up

Small things first. It's hilarious that Genos invokes more fear than the actual monsters do at Saitama's residence. Surprising that he's been visiting Saitama for a while but has never run across Saitama's neighbours or pets until now. You'd think that Saitama had brought home a tiger. As if he were extolling how the beast is still barely half-grown and tame, and all everyone else could see is how it's already the size of a large fridge with cruelly-curved claws longer than one's fingers and fangs sturdy enough to bite through one's skull. Forte may know not to mess with Saitama but he's so aware of Genos's capacity to do actual violence to him that the latter doesn't even need to breathe a word of threat to commandeer his house.

Don't Panic, It's Just A Monster

I love thus story: people are not blind or stupid. It's hard to keep secrets when someone takes an interest. The disciples are on Amai Mask's trail, and while they're fairly certain that they've uncovered a monster hiding as a human being, the circumspection and nuance they're showing is remarkable.

Despite their misgivings, they're prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and see him more as a person struggling to retain his humanity than as a monster biding its time to strike. In this, Iaian leans towards the former interpretation, while Bushidrill would rather err on the side of caution. Okamaitacchi is in the middle but is of the mind that this is a fluid situation that could go either way.

It's really neat that what was once a one-off gag, with Iaian telling Meltzegard that he could read the latter's murderous intent, has been repeatedly revisited ad deepened in the course of the story to create what is a wise and sympathetic response to a potentially dangerous situation. The disciples aren't blind to the danger of a monstrous hero, but because they can read intentions, they're willing to be heroes to the core and risk reaching out a helping hand to a struggling person.

Iaian's taking a risk in hoping there's a person in Amai who can be saved. But what else is a hero about?

Decisions and Inspirations

So, what will you do, Kamikaze? Had Nichirin died, what he'd have had to do would have been simple. As the new head of the Council of Swordmasters, Atomic would have had to resign as a hero and raise up a new generation. Thankfully, he's been spared that.

It's refreshing to get more insight into Atomic's character and find that he's been looking for both a source of challenge and inspiration in his life. Bang had certainly provided both while he'd been a fellow pro-hero. However, Atomic deciding to lead a charge to the very skies rather than stand on his pride and be an old man shouting impotently at the battle raging overhead had been a revelation. Terrible as the Monster Association showdown had been, it had also been a peak experience unlike any he could have imagined. He's hooked. [Since this is so late, Child Emperor's suggestions of a specialist dragon-slaying team would have found in Atomic an enthusiastic sponsor]. But he still wants a rival, so off he is to challenge King.

Coming to Nichirin, I have three things to say:

A: Words Are Best Eaten Cold, With Salt

Despite having a disciple working as a hero (Spring Mustachio), Nichirin hasn't thought too highly of heroes. Depending on the translation, he'd called them hunters... or pest controllers. It's nice to see that he's had to eat his words.

I hope those words are tasty

B: The Old Lie

'Dolce et decorum est pro patria mori' . I don't blame Shido for clinging onto a view of his father bravely laying down his life. He needs all the comfort he can get.

We know the truth. Zambai was not felled by a superior foe but by a sentient barf bag spitting in his face.

Amahare's desecrated remains were so fragmentary that his coffin needed only a single pallbearer. A cruel duty indeed for Yuta to perform.

Nor can we forget Spring Mustachio fighting desperately to stop Nichirin's transected body from being burned, then Fubuki frantically keeping him alive, his guts kept from spilling out by what had been Genos's precious designer jacket.

This had been an actual conflict, not a carefully-managed test of skill vulgarly called a 'fight', and there was nothing sweet, fitting, nor fair about it.

C: Sword and Spirit

AND NOW FOR THE PART I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER FOR! Forever being from December 2017. It also ties into more recent chapters. The border between living and non-living has always been a bit porous in One-Punch Man and it's amazing to watch Nichirin make no distinction between his biological body, his sword, and his prostheses to forge a whole that is much greater than the sum of its parts. Once again, it comes down to spirit and willpower.

Had Genos witnessed this, he'd have asked Saitama for a leave of absence to study under Nichirin. This is the missing part that has been nagging at him, the question he'd asked Saitama about whether his parts truly made him stronger, to which Saitama had had no answer. Heck, just being able to observe Nichirin would have been profoundly inspirational for Genos.

ONE, however, is not in the business of giving Genos anything cheaply. No, on current headings, he's going to have to work it out for himself. Indeed, he accidentally and instinctively touched on the answer when he seamlessly rejoined himself after being bitten in two by Elder Centipede. He didn't think about what he was doing then: he was just totally determined not to be dismissed by that miserable worm. [It goes without saying that Kuseno did not get a distress call, nor brave monsters to see what the fuck was going on for himself because of a mere broken leg and some loosened plates of armour.]

Before and after: plates laid on a bias rejoining so perfectly there's no damage to see. And all the internals are fine too. Black magic shit that got the old engineer out of bed to do a field inspection.

Come to that, Saitama does know about the importance of will but does not know it consciously. Yet another gag that has become very much not a gag is that any object Saitama holds that he does not want to break becomes unbreakable. Cheap store-bought chopsticks catch a falling man -- and his clothes, in turn, don't give way. They become an extension of Saitama, like Nichirin's sword does of himself. Speaking of swords, it's notable that when Atomic Samurai managed to draw the sun blade, it was impossible to tell where the man ended and the sword began. Saitama just has no idea that that's what he's doing, so he can't teach it to his increasingly frustrated disciple.

And like that, another piece of the puzzle of the power scheme of OPM has been shown to us. No one character has the whole picture. We will hopefully get to piece it together by the end, and we hope that the right characters understand it well enough at the right time to make for good outcomes.
