I don't know about an interview but I definitely saw the complaints. But there were also multiple posts on the Bioware forums making the same complaint about Anders, despite the fact that his flirting options are very clearly marked with hearts.
I kind of hate the “click ❤ to date” romance system that the new Bioware games have. Is it just because people complained about the accidental flirting thing Origins/ME1 had? Because I liked the “sometimes if you’re nice to Alistair or Leliana they might mistakenly think you’re dating” thing. It made them feel more real as a character, like they had their own thoughts and agency. I miss feeling like my companions had an opinion on whether or not they wanted to date me. Now it just feels like you pick someone from the crowd and bam, they’re dating you now.
#I first joined this fandom in 2012 so I saw this first hand#They just wanted a friendly Antivan massage in Zevran's private tent. Just a nice sexy massage night with the boys.#Also yes your tags I haaaate the little UI popups. Turn them off completely.#I like the idea of romance lock in scenes so you can flirt with everyone platonically without romancing them that's fine it's fun#but they could have had the confirmation be something communicated by the characters not the UI#And I agree some of them make things worse. Telling you that Lucanis will remember your favourite drink means that when he does#you're just like 'yeah the game said this would happen'#It would have been such a fun little surprise to let us find out later that their silly little choices mattered to this man#why did they ruin it like that#Veilguard critical#Bioware critical
