HSH Pumpkin Carving Headcanons

It’s spooky time y’all

Twilight - The traditional pumpkin carver. Can make absolutely perfect pumpkin faces that look straight off of pinterest. Happy, sad, scary, funny - doesn't matter, Twi can carve it. He can pump them out en masse, too. When it comes to pumpkins, Twi is in his element. 9/10 Only because he’s limited to faces. But damn if they’re not impressive.

Sky - Does not carve a pumpkin. He starts to but then loses interest as soon as the guts come out. He stalls when it comes to creating a face; he wants to do something more creative than just a generic face but he doesn't know what else to do. So he ends up as Twilight's helping hand instead. He’s very useful because he can magically carry twenty pumpkins at once. It's his Halloween party trick. 2/10 he’s got no pumpkin but he’s got spirit

Legend - He doesn’t make a face but a sigil. A very elaborate, carefully crafted sigil to ward off malicious spirits. Stuffs it with herbs and charms too. Also he uses a very large turnip instead of a pumpkin to keep tradition. But he also fucks up cutting the lid and it keeps falling inwards and ruining his candles, which he bitches about even though it was his fault. 7/10 very atmospheric and aromatic

Hyrule - If he can get some time off, Hyrule does enjoy a good pumpkin carving. He's not great at it so his faces are a little wonky. But he has fun and that's what's important. His little happy pumpkin is an adorable addition to the front porch and Time is sure to put it front and center. 8/10 the littlest pumpkin on the porch with the biggest smile

Warriors - Draws an ahegao face on the pumpkin with a sharpie. His pumpkin is the first to magically disappear from the front porch. Banned from touching all future pumpkins forever. 0/10 and someone stuffs pumpkin guts into his pillowcase in retaliation

Wild - Starts carving, gets distracted halfway through. He scoops the guts out and then comes up with a great recipe idea and disappears into the kitchen to roast some pumpkin seeds. Twilight happily finishes carving his pumpkin for him and enjoys whatever amazing pumpkin flavored treat Wild cooks up. Wild never realizes he forgot to actually carve his pumpkin. 3/10 another without a pumpkin but he gets more points because his comes with pumpkin spice cookies

Champion - Carves his pumpkin very professionally. Looks up "pumpkin carving ideas " and then literally just copies whatever he finds. He does it very, very well too. It comes out looking amazing, if a bit generic. He cannot be convinced to personalize it in the slightest, though. No, it's by the book or not at all. Does not hesitate to defend his gourd by force when Warriors comes by with that damned sharpie. 8/10 very professional looking

Wind - Doesn't care about carving pumpkins. He hates the icky feeling of touching the raw guts and he doesn't give a shit about carving a face. At best he'll draw a generic face on with a marker and at worst he won't even touch a pumpkin. He's the boring guy who just puts a plain pumpkin on his porch. -10/10 he doesn’t even have the spirit

Four - Uses this as an excuse to use all his favorite power tools. His pumpkin comes out looking like a fucked up little freak. A true frankenstein creature that's half flesh, half metal. A serious safety hazard with all the loose screws that have been drilled into it. It's a monstrosity. The blood in it is not decorative: it’s from all the ankles of everyone who didn’t watch out. God help any unsavory characters who show up to cause trouble because Time will use it as a projectile in case of an emergency and it will be a critical hit. 7/10 very cool but actually a safety hazard.

Time - This man has zero artistic ability. He can kill a man with a knife three hundred different ways but can't carve a fucking straight line in this goddess damned pumpkin. What the fuck is this? A cosmic joke? Why does his triangle come out looking like a square? Why does his smiley face look like a straight line? Why did the damn pumpkin split in half? He barely even touched it??? The dude goes through several attempts before finally coming to something that looks vaguely okay. Only to then realize that he forgot to coat the pumpkins insides with vaseline so the local squirrels eat it immediately. 1/10 all that’s left is an eaten carcass. Malon laughs at him.

Malon - Another master pumpkin carver. She's a little more artistic than Twilight and makes more than just faces. Entire scenes and landscapes. Skeleton animals, a headless rider on a motorcycle. She's got major talent. Plus, she's won the regional pumpkin growing competition ten years in a row. 10/10 This woman is Queen of the Pumpkin Patch.

Dark - Enjoys pumpkin carving in a more freeform way. Draws cartoon "x" eyes and punches a hole through the pumpkin to make the mouth and exit hole. He stuffs a fake gun into the "mouth", guts spilled out onto the sidewalk out of the hole in the back of the gourd. Thinks it's hilarious. 4/10 His pumpkin is really ugly but he literally punched a hole through it so yeah that’s worth some points right there

Shadow - Doesn't carve but does steal. Menace to all gourds, taker of jack-o-lanterns. 0/10 Picks tricks over treats every time

He takes comfort in the fact that while he may be batshit crazy, he's not a religious nut like Carver. The stark difference helps him sleep at night.

"Nailed it," Erica Sinclair says, abandoning her math textbook to hug his waist. She, Max and El are getting too damn tall for him.

He doesn't flinch at the contact. Probably because Erica is about as threatening as a baby seahorse... until she opens her mouth that is.

"Do you think he'll come back for more?"

"I wouldn't," she replies, and then she adds, "Hey, off brand Axl Rose, are you gonna help me with this stupid question or not?"

Max stifles a giggle, and Billy glares at her as he takes a seat beside Erica on the couch. "It wasn't that funny!"

Max doubles over in tears, and despite his pride taking a serious hit, Billy can't help but join in. This is the first time he's made her cry laughing. These are good tears. Happy tears.

Erica can throw a funeral for his deceased ego any day. It's worth it if it makes his little sister laugh.

Max grins at him, and he grins back.

Yeah, it's worth it.

Noragami AU? I love zhongxiao so much I brainrot on so many AUs for it...

This was pretty fun though; I liked writing the names. I have 0 calligraphy skills but still.

I’ll put AU details under the cut because...it’s kinda long.

First, I must note I’ve read only up to volume 6 of the manga (end of Bishamon arc), so I may get some things wrong/incomplete!

Zhongli is a major god that's a victim of consolidation. You know how some gods get consolidated into one? I'm not sure what will actually happen to them in Noragami-verse. My best guess is—whoever matches the description of the consolidated god more gets to retain the prayers of the new followers, the other/s falling into obscurity. I was thinking the latter is what happens to Zhongli and how he started from being an upper god to low tier nameless god that writes his number everywhere so people call him and he can do odd jobs for them so he gets prayers, in true Noragami fashion.

Xiao is a shinki who's an ex-stray. He died maybe some hundreds of years ago and had the misfortune of an abusive god being the first to name him in true Xiao backstory fashion. My thought is that, shinki are a god's moral compass... but what is that, really, if a god gaslights them really badly/doesn't take notes from said moral compass, all under the excuse that gods can do no wrong? So my thought is, this is exactly what Xiao's former god does. Whenever the god caused him harm, which in turn causes Xiao to sting them (bc he has feelings and being treated badly made him feel terrible) , they would abandon Xiao, erasing his old name, and later taking him back with a new name. Remember that in noragami lore, names are very important—beyond just identification, it's taken as a sign of acceptance, of belonging somewhere, of loyalty and whatever else. The name his former god gave him is wrapped in bandages on his left leg. You know how people tend to hide things they’re afraid of losing? That.

On top of that, I'm thinking he also was forced to become a stray by his old master, who was a minor god. Letting other gods make him do dirty work to earn their favor, stuff like that. The minor god has had a reputation of offering assistance to major gods in difficult situations, and perhaps this is when Zhongli seeks them at some point—not knowing that the reputation was due to the stray they're keeping. And that's when he meets Xiao (it’s the moment that’s drawn here).

Now, gods and shinki (at least, the ones without any shady business) don't want anything to do with strays, who are seen as corruption personified. But Zhongli, who is open-minded in true Zhongli fashion, doesn't avoid the stray. He learns of what his god was doing and decides that the god has fallen into depravity—laying waste to them himself. After that, he sought out all of the gods that named Xiao, asking them to release him, one by one. This gave him a bad reputation because he's a god who's openly involved with a stray what the hell is he doing. After Xiao is released by the last one, maybe Zhongli asks Xiao if he wants to come with him, which Xiao fully wants to do. Then Zhongli names him in true zhongxiao fashion.

Then perhaps some time later (or centuries later more like), religion evolves; Zhongli's godhood got consolidated with some other major god, turning him into a no-name. When this happens, I imagine he'd sit down and talk to all of his shinki about it, and what they would like to do, if they would like to be released. There isn't much future for shinki with a no-name god who might accidentally die and not revive, and since they don't have shrines, well... think of it as living in poverty. A lot of them leave, only a few staying with him (maybe only Xiao, or including other characters like Ganyu or Madame Ping or Mountain Carver etc. if you wanna add more characters to the AU).

And I think that's mostly it, Zhongli then starts basically being an odds job worker with his shinki.

I have a design in the works for what he’d be like in modern times (no longer a stray, etc.) but that’s perhaps for another time.

Funny thought: Like all other shinki, Xiao doesn’t remember his mortal life. Except for Zhongli, everyone thinks he’s some kid around 16-18 that maybe just acts kinda mature. In reality he died as a 23-year old babyface.

LGBTQ Supernatural Character Breakdown

Okay so yesterday I posted this lovely screenshot of yet another stupid reddit post about spn that I thought was funny and shrugged off as another reddit dudebro thing. However, then @thehappyearth went and actually read through the thread and reported back with results. The opinions of OP were unsurprising, but they got me thinking. Part of the post reads "I would prefer a neutral show that doesn't aim to include LGBT people in nearly every episode.. its unrealistic unless they are in a location where this holds true..example (California)". Now that's ridiculous for a lot of reasons. 1) Not having LGBT people in a show does not make it "neutral." Cishet is not the default human experience, neither is male, nor white nor able-bodied, etc. 2) It's not "unrealistic" to have LGBT in literally any location in the world. We exist everywhere you go. Yes, certain places tend to attract LGBT adults and families due to their culture, legal protections, history, etc. but it's not like there's something in San Francisco water that just makes people there gay at a higher percentage. I assure you, reddit user, there are LGBTQ people in every single place Sam and Dean have visited in the show. 3) like literally it's just homophobic shut up reddit bros. ANWAY...

But what really got me thinking was the "nearly every episode" comment. Like, dude. What show are you watching? But then I thought...wait how many LGBTQ characters actually are there in Supernatural, so I did a little digging and compiled this list (google sheets) of every LGBTQ character to appear on screen. This doesn't include characters who are only mentioned (although there aren't many to add with that anyway). I looked into some different criteria and I included each character, the number of episodes they appeared in, their first and last episode, how many episodes they appeared in as a confirmed LGBTQ character, their sexuality, if they speak or not, and if they died. I also included a description and notes, and noted which characters were in episodes nominated for GLAAD awards. I also included "ambiguous" characters who I either felt weren't "confirmed" as LGBTQ (like the man who is possibly a gay porn star or the sassy yorkie) but in that realm, or characters where there were bigger issues that make it more complicated (Dean, Crowley, and Rowena).

And then I got curious and made a whole second spreadsheet with a list of all the episodes featuring confirmed LGBTQ characters. I included which characters are featured, if it includes an LGBTQ couple, if it features an LGBTQ storyline important to the plot, if it features a recurring LGBTQ character, if any LGBTQ character dies, if it was nominated for a GLAAD award, and my opinion on if it's homophobic. I only included episodes where a character was confirmed LGBTQ when it aired, however I did include retroactively LGBTQ characters when listing what recurring characters are featured.

Some findings under the cut:

I counted a total of 32 on screen (reasonably) confirmed LGBTQ characters in all of Supernatural (for the purposes of this I have counted Charlie and apocalypse Charlie as separate characters). Now when I say confirmed this is a range from Charlie to characters who had a same sex kiss in the background. There is a chance I have missed some, so if you look through this and notice someone missing, please let me know. (Also sidenote I say LGBTQ but there's no confirmed trans characters as far as I could tell). That's an average of 2.13 per season. There are 9 recurring characters and 23 that only appear once. There are 6 with 3 or more episodes. The only characters that appeared in more than 2 episodes while confirmed as an LGBTQ character are Charlie (apocalypse world and regular) and Chuck. Of all these characters 10 are dead (with three of these presumably resurrected off screen) and 22 survived.

If we break it down by era Kripke had 4 with 0 recurring characters and half and half dead/alive. This is .8 per season average. Gamble had 3 and (at the time) none were recurring and none died. This is 1.5 per season average. Carver had 10 including making Chuck bisexual. Charlie also became a recurring character (then she died). This is 2.5 per season average. Dabb has 15 including Castiel and Claire. This included 7 recurring characters and 8 one offs, and 8 alive and 7 dead. This is 3.75 per season average.

As far as sexualities go, we have 3 (presumably) lesbian characters (2 Charlies and Donna's niece) 3 gay characters (Max Banes and 2 one offs who die) and 2 bisexual characters (Chuck and Noah the gorgon). No single character ever refers to themself by any sexuality as far as I can tell, but Alan J Corbett (Ghostfacers intern) and Conner (from the church) are both referred to as gay by other characters. Everyone else I based on context. All the other characters were unspecified as to their specific sexualities.

In terms of episodes with confirmed LGBTQ characters (so characters who at the time the episode was written were reasonably confirmed as LGBTQ) we have 39 total, a bulk of them being episodes that feature either Chuck or Charlie. That's about 12% of all SPN episodes. If you take out episodes that only include either Chuck or Charlie as the confirmed character you have 20 left which is 6.25% of all SPN episodes.

There are 12 episodes that feature an LGBTQ couple, 3.75% of all episodes. There are, by my count, 9 episodes with an LGBTQ storyline important to the plot or 2.8% of episodes. I know this is more subjective but I included Ghostfacers, Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo, LARP and the Real Girl, Sacrifice, The Chitters, Wayward Sisters, Ouroboros, Gimme Shelter, and Despair.

If we break down writers from who has the most episodes with confirmed LGBTQ characters Robbie Thompson comes in the lead with 9, Buckleming next with 6, Bobo and Dabb with 5, Yockey and Glynn with 4, Davy Perez with 3, and Nick Vaught, Nancy Won, Nancy Weiner, Eric Kripke, Jeremy Carver, Sera Gamble, Brett Matthews, and Bed Edlund all having 1. As far as writers who introduced new LGBTQ characters or canonized previously existing ones we have again Robbie Thompson in the lead with 7, Dabb with 6 (although 4 were from co-written episodes), Berens with 4, Yockey and Glynn with 3, Brett Matthews, Davy Perez, Nancy Weiner, Eric Kripke, and Nancy Won all with 2. Gamble and Edlund each have 1 and Buckleming sort of have 1 since they introduced apocalypse world Charlie. All of this is quantity not quality, so keep that in mind.

As far as deaths go, Bobo has the most with 3.5. 3 of those are from Despair where the characters were all (possibly) resurrected and the .5 is for Kaia who later turned out to not actually be dead. Yockey has 2 (both from Ouroboros). Edlund, Glynn, Perez, and Gamble all have 1 and Dabb also has .5 for cowriting Wayward Sisters.

The LGBTQ character who appears in the most episodes is very obviously Castiel who appears in 142 total episodes. Chuck is next with 19 and then Charlie with 7. Chuck has the most episodes as a confirmed LGBTQ character with 12 total and Charlie has 7.

Apologies if any of the math on this is wrong or if I left anyone out. Feel free to let me know and I'll correct the documents.

So really I don't know why I did this but basically yeah I don't know what fantasy world those reddit dudes are living in with LGBT people in nearly every episode (unless he's counting Castiel which...win for the gays I guess?). Nothing about this was particularly surprising but it's interesting to see all these things laid out and play around with the categories. Um...hope you enjoyed this i guess. lol

FEYRE AND LUCIEN NEED TO BE BFFLS. I honestly have no idea why I love Lucien so much. I really have no clue. I know there are a million reasons not to like him and not many reasons why I should like him, but he is fr one of my favorite characters :0 I’ll probably make a post about it later aha

Yo so I actually love Jurian.

(When Feyre got back from the Spring Court) RHYS AND FEYRE REUNITED. WAS. THE CUTEST FUCKING THING. I HAVE EVER SEEN. IN MY ENTIRE. LIFE. 

A lot of this book reminds me of LOTR. Especially the final battle. But also in general there are just funny things, like, the Cauldron reminds me of the eye

Rhys’s reaction when he realized that the bone carver looked like Feysand’s child..... that was perfect. I mean personally I would be kinda creeped if I saw the bone carver wearing my child, but his reaction was so cute.

“Sky kids looking to adopt flock here” !! 🥺 oh my gosh this is such a cute idea! I’m assuming this is bc new players often get adopted by the older ones yeah? aaaa I love this. And idk why I’m getting emotional of the thought of older skykids finding a small new moth struggling to flap around in Binial and just saying that yes they want them, they’re a part of their flock now ueueue ;n;

The prophet being more like a “referee than a prophet” seems so funny to me XD But the training grounds idea for the trials is so cool :0

“Fishman region” Yeahhhh!! I know this seems a bit odd for me to get excited about but some of the games that I’ve recently played there had been some sort of fishing skill that I had to do and I’ve always liked fishing in those games so,,,yeah lol They get to fish! Woo!

And I love these ideas, of having them do fishing, building boats, and manta training, but!! Butterfly breeders/keepers ??!!!??? I LOVE THATT !! :0 That’s so gosh darn cute!

“Hirthlim” honestly one of my favourite names that you’ve come up with. It just sounds so cool and mysterious? LOVE IT!

“Wood carvers, painters, jewelers,…metal workers, forgers etc” Okay but why does this make a lot of sense in my head. I’m like yeah, I agree, that fits. And I also love the idea of wood carving, where they just carve out like mini statues and then plop them down, scattered everywhere across the forest. You can just find one hidden away a little bit as you’re walking/flying your way through the forest.

Big mantas pulling carts and such, as you’ve said. And aaaaaa do you know those vibes? You know? Like those movies where there’s a lot of movement and the camera pans around seeing all of these things happening all at once and it’s this big giant mess working together to get their job done. We see people coming to send off a letter, packages being wrapped up ready for delivery and oh! Hey man! Just this pile is ready to go. Yeah, it’s for Digarem. *pats the manta* Off you go then, I’ll see ya later 👋 *the man on the manta tips his hat in goodbye and the manta flies off in a giant whoosh* The sound of papers and mantas and working people and even the wind because they’re outside!! How fun. But man this whole place would probably sink if it starts to rain lol

Bryce Hirschberg held out long enough to be crowned one of the show’s winners. He’s also a lifelong boater who lives aboard a Carver 31. How did you wind up on Netflix’s Too Hot To Handle? A casting producer from the show contacted me on Instagram actually. They asked if I would be interested in being filmed hanging with beautiful women, to be aired on Netflix. I couldn’t refuse that! I didn’t find out the premise for the show until I arrived and my fellow cast mates told me. How did it feel to be declared one of the winners of the show? Being a winner meant a lot to me! I grew so much from the show. Learned so much about myself and became a happier and more confident person when it was over. A little chunk of change wasn’t bad either, but it was the recognition that I treasure the most. So you live aboard a Carver 41? For how long? Yes I do and I love it! I moved onto the boat as a live-aboard, June 1st, 2013. So, I’m coming up on my 7 year anniversary! It’s the life! Did you grow up around boats? My Dad always had boats and loved boats, and I think we owned a little speed boat when I was a small kid. It was actually my Dad’s idea that I get a boat to live on, mostly so he can drive it around! But I’ve always loved boat and being on/in the water. Our family has been on a dozen cruise ships as well. We can’t get enough. Are you a licensed captain? I am a licensed captain! For any water craft under 70ft. I got my license last summer when California instituted a new law requiring one. Before that, my drivers license did the trick. Hot sun, no wind, best friends, cold beverage. That’s what I live for! What’s next for you? A reality show on a boat? I’m doing lots! Working on making another movie! My boat is featured in my last film, “Counterfeiters,” now available on various streaming networks for free! Funny enough my brother, who lives on the boat with me, and I almost made a reality show about the boat life! I guess that option is still in play!
