Silly little goofies, I can’t believe there are 50 of you now! Around a month ago I only had 15 funky followers (and none of them were active sobs), but now the army is growing! I can’t wait to keep making (and reblogging) silly little things that puts a smile on someone’s face, and I can only hope things get better from here. Where I live, Christmas is tomorrow as of posting this, so Merry (early) Christmas everyone!

GIANT MEGA ART SUMMARY AND MOOT APPRECIATION POST! 😱😱
Tumblr media
Art summarrryyy! ✨️
January is my flower person once again (still encouraging yall to ask about it).
February I explored with brushes. I wanted to see what I could do with fully saturated colors.
March is just drawing for a hairstyle I wanted. Kinda dead in the art department that month.
April was a gift I made for a friend after an ongoing inside joke.
May is an oc I made with my dad. He is the popcorn and candy man and loves drinking butter. It eases his nerves.
June is a collection of doodles. I was fascinated with rat ppl for some reason.
July marked my first serious dca fanart. Back then my SAMS hyperfixation skyrocketed. I was still figuring out just how I wanted to draw the blorbos.
August was a drawing of a random person. Just going with the flow. I think they are adorable and I rendered the horns well.
September is my most popular post. The infamous Solar Lunacy shitpost.
October is my spooky moon drawing. I still get notifs from it. Ppl think it's a scooby doo laugh and I find that funny. Ppl also think he's handsome. That was unexpected.
November is a drawing I made after taking a trip to the St. Louis City Museum. It's so wacky and whimsical in there. I am proud of my choice of colors and patterns. I'm not sure if I will finish it.
December is my Secret Santa. Ironically enough, the bonus drawing is the one I did first and spent the most time on.
Looking back through all of it made me realize that I have a lot of unfinished work and I have a LOT of things that I never shared with yall.. There are so many good drawings that never saw the light of day because I forgot about them or didn't think they were good enough. I want to share them all at some point.
I have improved. I am proud of my progress :]

The Magnus Archives: ALIEN AU (Part 1)
So in short I had come up with an AU where the cast of TMA characters are set in the universe of ALIEN. They’re both my FAVORITE pieces of horror media I’ve consumed and so my brain figured- WHY NOT? So I have 13 pages and scenes in my brain that would take place in this AU. If this or the following posts that I’ll make inspire anyone I would LOVE to see what you come up with! In short this story has a mostly good ending.
Here’s a list of the things that ARE and AREN’T in this universe.
- 14 Fears aren’t in this world. It’s fully immersed in the universe of the movie ALIEN/ALIENS. - The xenomorphs however have more powers- they can shape shift into anyone they ‘kill’. So if the alien hatches from the host but somehow the host survives then that creature can pretend to be that person. If they kill someone they can pretend to be them.  They still however take the main biological forms of the hosts they came from in regular form. - Queens are born when there is no other queen in near vicinity detected by the unhatched egg.  - The hatching of an egg takes a lot longer after implantation rather than a few hours like the original movie.  - The aliens acidic blood is still STRONG but not nearly as much. I nerfed that to a slower burn- if left on the surface for more than a few minutes it can still be JUST AS BAD as the movies version. - Cyborgs are a thing in this world- who is and isn’t a cyborg is up in the air- however you’ll find out if you follow the posts. - The aliens are weak to extreme heat and extreme cold. The younger they are the more vulnerable to both. Fire extinguishers and flamethrowers will be a big weapon in both firepower and as a melee weapons. - The technology is slightly more up to date compared to ALIEN’s 80′s tech, as there are in short video calls that can be held. -Mother (MU-TH-UR 4900) is the ships computer mainframe, and can connect directly to Elias with his acceptance of the transmission. Mother also monitors the crew and their vitals when they are under cyosleep. - They can quit. No bindings to ‘The Eye’ here.
ARTIFACT RETRIEVAL VEHICLE: THE COEUS CREW: SEVEN
Captain and Scrivener (Archivist): Jonathan Sims (Age: 31)
Executive Officer: Sasha James (Age: 35)
Warrant Officer: Georgie Barker  (Age: 29)
  Navigator: Melanie King (Age: 27)
Engineers: Tim Stocker (Age 33) & Martin Blackwood (Age: 27)
Science Officer: Nikola Orsinov (Age: 30)
CARGO: OTHER WORLDLY ARTIFACTS UNDER STUDY COURSE: SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY MOON BASE: THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES
-Everyone shares the role of being a Scribal (Archival) Assistants to Jon- no exceptions.  -The Magnus Archives is a space station on the Moon orbiting Earth.  -The cargo they carry is found from the ships that collect samples from uninhabited planets as well as statements from those who report to them their findings to investigate.  -The Admiral is the ships designated therapy cat to help the crew cope with isolation brought on by Georgie. -Elias Bouchard is the head of The Magnus Archives.
STORYLINE:
The story starts after they’ve collected the last of the artifacts required on the list to retrieve. They’ve been in cryosleep for over 6 months and only need 3 more months of it till they’d arrive to their destination. Everyone wakes up on their own time, Georgie first, along with Melanie and Martin. Followed by Tim, Sasha, Jon, and Nikola, they gather at the dining table of the living quarters. Martin makes everyone their preferred meals, seemingly the most nervous. This has been Martins first time aboard THE COEUS, and his banter with Sasha and Tim prove while not the best at his job there, he makes a mean meal out of the ‘rubbish space food’ provided. Melanie comes back after taking a look at their current location frowning, letting the others know they aren’t even close to Earth yet- not even in their solar system anymore. In surprise they turn to Jon, who himself has only been Captain on ship for only just before this crew was assigned to him. He gets up to check out whats going on, many of the others follow him, much to his disgruntlement as they basically fill the small room. Mother has intercepted a transmission of unknown origins and under contract of their jobs they must check it out. Curious to know more about their new course Jon calls Elias, who informs them it will be a 2 week set back on their schedules course. Jons not exactly excited about this but Tim’s quite happy to be informed it does give them quite a large bonus since it does seem confirmed of unknown (non-human) origins.
Once they arrive to their destination, Melanie sets the ship into motion for landing. She reads off all planet signs to the crew on. It’s a nearly isolated dwarf planet of 600 kilometers in diameter (372.823 miles). The surface on landing will be 23 degrees celsius- much warmer than expected but it does seem to be orbiting a sun fairly closely. They prepare for landing and Martin and Tim are set to get the ship in position. Martin and Tim talk together as they prep and make sure the landing legs will be fine against the surface of the planet. While they do so Sasha pops in announcing she gets to go with Jon and Melanie to investigate the source of the spooky transmission on foot. Meaning also she gets a bigger cut in the bonus than them. Tim and Sasha razz at each other but stop when sparks are spat in Martins face for wiring something wrong. He curses and Sasha comes over to help see what's wrong, pulling on gloves. She laughs a bit and gently teases him to choose a different degree to lie about next time he wants a new job as she fixes the wiring for him. Martin shushes her, claiming he didn’t expect them not to do background checks, nor did he expect to be given a position on one of the biggest damned cargo retrieval ships known. While he worked originally as a simple warehouse organizer at The Magnus Archives sister base on earth he had needed cash to help support himself after his Mother had moved out. Tim wraps an arm around Martin, claiming he’ll shield Martin from Jons prying eyes if anything goes wrong on this detour. They laugh a bit before the radio goes off from Jons office room. He’s complaining about the lights not turning on in there and would be thrilled if someone did their job correctly when fixing it before he gets back on the ship. Tim radios him that they’re on it before they tease Martin more on his obvious crush on Jon before Sasha is then called up to suit up.
Georgie is helping the 3 suit up properly, making sure their heart monitors are secure and attached to their neck to get an accurate pulse. Jon seems to be struggling most with the suit up, this unlike the other two, being his first time in a suit outside of the initial training. Sasha after having her camera feed double checked helps Jon out. And while Jon doesn’t say anything about it, it’s obvious Sasha should’ve gotten the job as Captain. Melanie the entire time rattling on about how excited she is to document her findings of a foreign transmission.
They land with ease, nothing going wrong as the planet, while rocky with a constant rain, is also somewhat flat. They make their way to the source of the transmission. Tim and the others are now watching from the ship- cameras live feed and audio coming to them as Georgie talks with Melanie about all the kind of things they could find on the ship to study. Nikola reminds everyone that without the items and everyone following the procedures for quarantine, no one is touching the items that may be brought back. The conversation dies out into aww when they see the space ship the signal is coming from appear on camera. Melanie is excited as Sasha and Jon start to look for a way in. Jon reminds them to stay close to him at all times as they enter the ship- its obvious he’d rather none of them go in here due to how degraded the place looks. Everything seems to have been heavily melted in random patches, but the ship itself seems to be made of a biological element of some sort- comparing it to a ribcage almost as they walk through it.
As they traverse the ship they stumble across multiple dead alien bodies. They aren’t fresh but they also don’t look years old. Melanie goes to take a closer look at them but Jon quickly pulls her back from them, yelling about how obviously unsafe it is as well as the fact that she just broke formation rushing off into a different room. They both get into an argument about what should be done with the bodies, and how far their investigations should go. At this point the feed is hardly coming through via camera, but the audio makes it back to the the ship roughly. Sasha goes on without them as she’s getting closer to decode the transmission. it’s a warning of sorts is what she can gather. Looking at the bodies it may have been an illness of some type, each of them dead from some type of acid but she finds one with an open chest- like an explosion. she gets closer to one, that seems to shift out of the corner of her eye. She tries to let the others know but she realizes that they can’t hear her over their arguing, and she’s almost certain she’s lost on the foreign ship. So instead she brings herself closer to the alien body before something crashes behind her and she stumbles back, tripping over something, and screams as she bashes her head on the back of her helmet. She gets up and looks around and sees the shadow of the creature run off and she chases after it.
That got the attention of the others as not only with the scream but Tim tells them her heart rate is spiking drastically. Jon and Melanie cry out for Sasha and she stops after meeting a dead end. She sighs and tells them she’s fine, she just fell and admittedly was just chasing after shadows. She turns around however and suddenly her heart monitor on the ship starts to read dead.  PART 2

19 Parents Share What Their Kid Remembered About Their ‘Last’ Life
1. He showed us his grave
When my brother was about 2 or 3 he told us his name used to be Austin. One day we were picnicking right along side a cemetery, when my brother took off running towards the gravestones, my dad and I followed him and found him touching a large headstone that simply read “Here Lies Austin” no name, no date. My brother did not learn to read until he was 6 and this headstone wasn’t even right out visible from where we were, yet he ran right to it
2. We don’t watch firefighter things
my son told me a few months ago he “used to be a firefighter, and we got called to a fire. There wasn’t any family inside the house, so we just put the fire out. Then the fire truck caught on fire and I died”. A few nights later, he elaborated he was taken to a hospital, where he died. We don’t watch firefighter things.
3. Her “other” mother’s name was Sally
I was talking to my four year old when she began to freak me out. She was telling me a story about her “other mother” and that she “died a long time ago on a Thursday.” I tried to brush it off, you know, whatever, shes a kid, they have wild imaginations… but then she started to go further into detail about the death of her “other mother,” whose name was apparently Sally. She has never met anyone named Sally, and I can’t recall any shows on TV she watches where “Sally” is a character. She told me that she was playing with her father’s gun that she found and accidentally shot and killed Sally while she was walking upstairs. It’s pretty weird. There are no guns in this house, I haven’t even really told her what guns are all about and how they can hurt or kill someone, shes only four! I think I am beginning to understand now why when I try to tell her when someone dies, they go away forever, she tells me that, that is not true. “We come back, mommy!” I’m only 23, I had my daughter very young and despite not being prepared, I don’t think I could have ever prepared for a conversation like that!
4. “When she lived before she was born”
My daughter did the same thing at the same age. She told me about her life “when she lived before she was born” and described herself as a woman with long hair who lived in an apartment with a long flight of stairs outside of it. She drove a VW Bug and wore long skirts. She then told me that she fell down the stairs and died. Her stories were startlingly vivid and always consistent. Quite spooky. She is now 19 and doesnt remember it. My advice would be write down everything your daughter tells you on the subject. Everything! Record her stories if you can.
5. Roanoke?
I would tell my older sister about my death. I told her my husband was captured and fire was everywhere. I took my young son and ran. I told her my son couldn’t run fast enough. I knew we would get killed and I had my husbands knife on me, I wanted to leave a clue. I wrote in capitals “CROATOAN” I told her we were caught and how my son was killed before I was killed. I told her how I was stabbed in the stomach with a knife. Then, I went about playing with dolls. I can still picture the scene and my son to this day.
6. “She used to come visit me”
my son says he remember his great grandmother (my grandmother) and can describe her in perfect detail (how she looks, how she acted, even what brand of cigarettes she smoked) , although she died 11 days before he was born. He says that she used to come visit him in his dreams.
7. Conchon
Apparently beginning around the time my friend could form sentences until he was little more than 2, he would go on and on about how he was a Native American named Conchon and that after his wife and son got sick and died, he moved to a mountain to live by himself with his horse. He died of a broken neck when he fell into a ravine.
8. “My real mom and dad were killed when the bad men came.”
when I was 2 or 3 I was talking to my grandmother and told her that my mom and dad weren’t my real mom and dad. My grandmother, knowing this wasn’t true, said they were. I calmly explained that no, my real mom and dad were killed when the bad men came. I had lived because my mom hid me behind a rock. I then went on to describe white men with guns and us “dark” people with long hair. When I was done, I went back to eating my ice cream.
9. Jesus
My cousin, approximately 3 years old and riding in the car with my mum and dad, pointed out a random house that they went past and declared “I died there”.
10. Included because, WHAT?
I did something sort of similar I guess. When I was about 3 my mum and I were driving over a bridge on which there’d recently been a major accident that resulted in a car bursting into flames and the driver dying. Anyway, I asked my mum who the man in the front seat was and when she told me to describe him I said, “Well he’s on fire and he keeps looking back at me.”
11. I drowned
My mother told me about a story I told her when I was 2 or 3. I told her she was the best mommy I ever had, to which she replied, “I’m the only mommy you’ve ever had.” “nu-uh, I had another mommy.” I said that my older sister and I went out to a pond in the woods behind my house. Around the pond, all of the trees were the same type: skinny with white paper-like bark. (I had never seen a poplar tree before in this life.) We put some logs together to make a raft, and put it into the water to play boat captain and climbed aboard. The raft fell apart, and I didn’t know how to swim. I tried to grab a log, but my hand slipped off. I could see my sister freaking out from underwater. I drowned.
12. My war memories
one of 6 hopping out of a helicopter into a field, it’s hot as shit, humid, daytime, two house/buildings smoking and heavily burning straight in front of me (to the side of the chopper), and there’s firing from the woods and field to my right. It’s chaotic a noisy, lots of firing and helicopters, my guys are firing back crouched next to the back building, one guy runs out of the other building with a kid he pushes forward and yells at to run, the kid gets shot from out of nowhere, and drops. I see a few of my guys advancing from another chopper behind me duck down in the grass as their chopper leaves, I crouch in tall grass about 10 feet from my chopper, fire my rifle twice from just above the grass line, and my chopper starts to take off, and is taking fire. I get up to move forward, panicky, and am shot dead – I feel a hard thunk, see part my chest explode, fall forward go black, and zoom out above my body. I also drew this later (still have pics, mom saved them). To me, it’s clear as day, still. Mom said some of my first chatter was about “heavy fire” “zip em boys” (don’t know what that means) and I would ask “Where are the hueys?” I was born in the early 70s, and my family was NOT military (very anti, actually). I err on the side of thinking it’s media (news footage?) I absorbed at some point from the Viet Nam war, but I also wonder if it’s not a past-life dream.
13. “That’s why I don’t like water now”
When my kid was 4, we were watching a docu on the Titanic. The scene was a picture of the schematics of the boiler room and the camera panned from left to right over the plans. He pointed at the tv and said, “That’s wrong. The boilers were on the Other side. And I was right here.” And he pointed to a small space in the boiler room. “That’s where I was. And that’s why I don’t like water now.”
14. My family’s farm, burning
When I was younger I would have dreams of living in colonial american. I remember bits very vividly and only when I was older did I realize what they were about and how accurate they were. Most of the dreams consisted of me being in my late teen years and centered around my family’s farm being set on fire during the night. I never dreamed past that night, nothing about the aftermath of the fire, and I haven’t had one in years.
15. “Nobody scroofs me there”
Getting my two and a half year old daughter out of the bath one night, my wife and I were briefing her on how important it was she kept her privates clean. She casually replied “Oh, nobody ‘scroofs’ me there. They tried one night. They kicked the door in and tried but I fought back. I died and now I’m here.” She said this like it was nothing. My wife and I were catatonic.
16. Nope
“Before I was born here, I had a sister, right? Her and my other Mom are so old now. They were ok when the car was on fire, but I sure wasn’t!”
17. “Their screams are keeping me up”
I was in my room on the computer at about 11, which is late for my sister to be awake even now. I was thinking about bed, but then my sister knocks on the door. She was maybe 10 at the time, so not so young that she doesn’t know when she’s dreaming. She wanted to sleep in my room because she was sad and scared. I asked her why, and she said, “I watched your sons burn up in the fire. Their screams are keeping me up.”
18. Role reversal
My three year old said, “Remember when I was the grown-up and you were the little boy?” to his Dad.
19. When he was a grown up
My father used to hate policemen when he was a kid, he used to tell my grandmother that they came to his house and shot him when he was a grown up.

Daffodil, Laurel, Lily, Sunflower, Violet, and Wisteria? Also Begonia but I'd like to know your favorites of the old covers and the newer/reprint covers. And the Russian Warrior Cat covers too! Some of their art is quite pretty.
laurel, violet and sunflower answered previously
Daffodil: When did you first start reading the series?
Start of third grade when I was 8 years old, which I believe was 2007!!  .......so like literally most of my life I have given to these cursed cat books. I remember The Sight was the most recent release. It was the first real book series I ever read, and I think I went through the first 2 series within a couple months.
Prior to that I just read stand-alone books and I only read because I wanted to win “accelerated reader” points....i couldn’t do sports, so reading was the only thing I could win at AND I DID WIN. but warriors was the first thing I read that I was actually like...into. and realized I could read for reasons OTHER then winning the most points.
Lily: If your five favorite characters were foods, what would they be?
asdfghgfdxs I honestly have no idea how to answer this question, in part because I don’t think I even have 5 favorite characters. I suppose Firestar is doritos out of obligation. What else can he be?? I mean ok flaming hot cheetos maybe seems more fitting on the surface because ~flame-y~ but lets be honest, Firestar is a bit too bland a character to be spicy. He is one of my favorites for nostalgia sake, I mean it’s Firestar, how can I not be fond of him?
I also have a soft spot for Scourge just because of the sheer ridiculous audacity of him. I wish he’d come back as an evil ghost. Anyway, when I was about 9 and going through my brief (incredibly unfortunate) twilight phase (I was just jumping on the popularity bandwagon tbh) I went to Hot Topic right before one of the movie premieres and they had this...edible bag of blood? it wasn’t actual blood obviously, but I remember it was advertised as being really high in iron to mimic blood, but it was really this sickly sweet mystery juice packaged inside of a fake hospital blood bag. I of course bought it because I went through my edgy phase early, and for some reason thought it would look cool to pretend I was drinking blood. It was the most disgusting liquid i have ever consumed but hey it did also have the unpleasant metallic tang of blood because I guess they were going for authenticity over edibility, so it’s not like I didn’t get what I paid for (or rather what my mom paid for, because i was 9)
Anyway, Scourge is that. He’s awful fake blood juice from the Hot Topic in the mall.
 That's all I got.
Wisteria: Are you looking forward to the Warriors movie?
YES ABSOLUTLEY!!
don't get me wrong, I fully expect it to be terrible. Embarrassing even. I expect they will try to change it for a wider audience appeal, and of course it will end up bad, BUT IT WILL BE SO FUNNY!! I have this inescapable morbid curiosity about it, like I really want to see what they try to do. Like watching a train crash. I can't help it.
Warriors is a silly series. I have a feeling this is why a movie hasn't been made yet, even I would have no idea who to market it for. Yes it's violent and touches on very dark topics, but the fact that its about cute little cats with very dumb names coupled with those dark topics in a way makes it look even MORE silly. I don’t think Warriors will ever have wide appeal outside of its fanbase, the concept looks too ridiculous if you’re not someone already into animal xenofiction like this, but a movie is inevitably going to try to have wider appeal anyway because that's what movie studios feel they need to do. They will either water it down, or worse, try to go a more family friendly comedy route since that’s how general audiences are used to seeing animated talking animals and they think that's the only “”safe”” way to market an animal movie, which will 100% ruin it either way. The second one is more likely, I mean why else do you think they hired the guys who wrote kung fu panda, and the recent alvin and the chipmunks and Spongebob movies to make the script?? [no shade to kung-fu panda, it’s good in it’s own way, but it is not the same vibe as warrior cats at all]. For me, this is simultaneously the absolute best and the absolute worse scenario, because like, it’s horrible, its an insult to everything I love about the warriors world, i have surreal nightmares about it, but it’s so horrible it f*cking hilarious ya know? how can you not be a little curious to watch that train crash (and the outraged reaction posts that will inevitably follow)????
A warriors movie will be bad, I can't see any way that it won't be bad, and honestly? I think that's ok. I don't need a good movie, I simply need a good laugh, and then I'll go back to watching fan animations which will always be more interesting anyway because they don't feel the need to have ~mass appeal~
Listen, we don't actually need a good official adaptation. In some ways, a good adaptation might be bad for the fandom. The fandom is cool because of how wildly different and creative it is, the series is so bare bones with no consistent official art that people can go nuts with it. I worry on the off chance we get a really good adaptation, it might take over the books. People might be less likely to draw/create with their own wild bonkers interpretations of canon in favor of sticking closer to what the official adaptation presented us with, and idk if I want that. I also def don't want to deal with searching "warrior cats" for the rest of my life to only bring up gifs/discussions of the movie/tv show, rendering material and fan creations for the books almost impossible to find. This is something i've suffered with when other books i like get popular adaptations, where as series with bad adaptations (like percy jackson) I have less trouble finding content about the books.
Begonia: Which book cover is your favorite?
So of the old covers I admit i have a soft spot for the darkest hour, it was my favorite as a kid and I know I tried to redraw it several times. Warrior covers have a tendency to blend together, there’s only so many ways to draw mysterious cats fighting, but I think this cover is one of the most memorable for me, if only for the center art (shout out to the old Fire and Ice cover though, I also really like the center art on that. I wish the box had kept being used for more than just a single cat face in the later series)
Tumblr media
but now that i’ve gone and looked, I really really like the full cover art for Tallstar’s Revenge, the colors just look super nice and match his eyes and everything. Tallstar having a fun and more unique looking design gives it extra points. Maybe I just like warm tones idk. And shout out to Wayne for also imagining the moor as a golden-brown field even though it’s probably supposed to be green.
Tumblr media
out of the new covers, I like the vibe of Dark River, it just looks spooky and mysterious......and I think this artists cats look better from the side, they are always a little crooked from the front (honorable mention to Place of No Stars cover, I really like the colors and the ominous vibe, it definitely had an impact when I first saw that cover, I just don’t love the look of the cats faces blown up close from the front. The more I look at it the more off it becomes, but the colors are cool)
Tumblr media
and I definitely agree the Russian warrior cats art has a very charming look to it, I like seeing it whenever it comes across my dash, but unfortunately I’m having trouble finding a catalogue of it to look at so I can’t pick a favorite

Baby, You’re A Haunted House
Pairing: Gerard Way x Female Reader Rating: General (TW for blood, mentions of a suicide) Requested By: None Word Count: 6,330 Author’s Note: Here is my first story for spooky season! I had hoped to have it up sooner, but life has been busy. This story has been in my mind since this spring. I intend on writing a little bit about the location it’s set in because it’s real! It really is a seminary that was converted into apartments in my hometown. I’ll link to the post here when it’s written. And yes, that is a picture of it below!  Also!!! There is a reference to another one of my favorite bands and one of their albums, first person who can correctly point it out wins... a prize? My admiration? Not sure yet, but shout it out if you know it!

It all seemed too good to be true.
(YN)’s roommate had let her know that she was going to be moving out of town for a new job and the thought of looking for a new apartment or roommate was overwhelming. She was dreading the process, but the next day while eating her lunch at work, she spotted an ad in the paper for Holy Name Heights. The description stated the apartments were newly renovated and located in a historic building on the edge of town, so she called right away to set up a tour.
Later that week she was touring the building that had previously been a seminary for many years. The diocese had sold the second and third floors of the sprawling building to a developer who converted the rooms into apartments, while leaving the first floor as office spaces for the diocese, a Catholic charity organization, and a small museum about the history of the church’s presence in the area.
“This place is beautiful,” (YN) marveled at the space. While being only one bedroom, it was spacious, had a washer and dryer so she wouldn't need to haul her laundry anywhere, assigned parking, not to mention a beautiful view, but a question nagged at the back of her mind. “How much is it per month?”
“$850 per month including utilities,” the agent replied with a smile.
“Oh! Ok, yes, I’d love to apply!”
A few weeks later as (YN) was moving her things into her brand new third floor apartment, she realized how quiet the building was. She paused briefly at each door as she walked by, straining to hear if anyone else was there. As she arrived at her own door with another armload of boxes, the door next to hers opened and a dark haired man stepped out. She shot him a quick smile as she fumbled for her keys.
“Do you need some help?” He asked.
“That’d be great,” she laughed and he took the box from her so she could get her keys straightened out. “I’m (YN).”
“Gerard,” he replied as she got the door open and took the box back from him.
“Have you lived here long?”
“Just moved in last weekend. I’m glad I’m not the only one up here anymore.”
“Wait, seriously? None of these other apartments are occupied?”
“I don’t think so, I haven’t seen many people around. I guess an old seminary might be kind of a hard sell.”
“Yea, I’m not sure I would have considered it either if I wasn’t in a bind. Thanks for the help with the box,” (YN) smiled as she shifted it in her arms.
“No problem, I’ll see ya around,” he smiled before continuing down the hall.
“See ya,” she called after him. (YN) closed the door behind her and shook her head. Cool apartment, good price, cute neighbor. It all seemed too good to be true.
~
The next day (YN) got up, made a pot of coffee and set about unloading the box that held her mug collection. The fact that she didn’t have to share cupboards with a roommate delighted her, as she didn’t have to worry about any of her favorites getting damaged. She put on some music and made her way over to the living room window as the smell of brewing coffee filled the room.
Her view was of the front of the building. Trees with bare branches lined the hillside that the building sat upon and a long driveway led up to the front of the building. She loved knowing that the leaves would soon be filling those branches, and then in the fall they’d turn beautiful shades of gold, red and orange. She also liked the idea of being able to see who was coming and going up the driveway.
After enjoying her coffee, she got back to work unpacking her apartment. The hours flew by as the pile of broken down cardboard boxes piled up near her door. As she wiped her sweaty brow, she realized she had no idea what to do with the boxes and trash that had accumulated. Had the agent even shown her where the dumpsters were? Then she had an idea. Gerard.
Should she bother him? She didn’t even know for sure if he was in. She took a deep breath as she approached his door and knocked. She wondered how long she should wait if he wasn’t there, or didn’t want to answer. She’d never interacted much with the neighbors at her old apartment building, so maybe she was being totally obnoxious. (YN) was so deep in her own thoughts that she almost didn’t notice that the door was opening.
“Hey (YN), what’s up?”
“Hi, umm this is probably super dumb, but I don’t know where the recycling bins and dumpsters are. The agent never pointed them out, and I didn’t think to ask until I realized I was knee deep in broken down boxes,” she laughed nervously.
“I can help you carry boxes down,” Gerard offered with a smile.
“You don’t have to do that,” (YN) could feel herself blushing.
“It’s no problem.”
“I mean, if you insist!” (YN) laughed and he followed her back to her door. They each took an armload of boxes and Gerard led the way to the staircase that was at the end of the hallway next to his apartment. (YN) glanced over her shoulder at the dark portion of the staircase that led up to a door, most likely the attic. She quirked an eyebrow in curiosity but continued after Gerard.
“So what do you do?” (YN) asked, breaking the silence that hung between them as they headed down the stairs.
“I’m a comic book writer,” he replied almost sheepishly.
“Oh wow, that’s really cool,” (YN) replied genuinely and Gerard lit up.
“Thanks! A lot of people think it’s kinda lame, but it’s just a different type of writing, ya know?” (YN) nodded in agreement. “What do you do?”
“Boring office work,” she said shaking her head. “I wish I had time to do creative stuff like write or draw.”
“You should try, even if it’s just a little bit at a time,” he said as he opened the door leading out into the bright sunshine. “The dumpsters are back here.”
“Thanks,” (YN) smiled as she dropped her share into the recycling bin. "And maybe I'll try to find some time to write, if inspiration strikes."
"You'd be surprised how ideas can pop up when you least expect them," Gerard replied as they made their way back to their floor.
~
Winter started to melt into spring, and (YN) had settled into the routine of her new apartment life. Or at least she thought she was.
It quickly became clear that she must have been a lot more absentminded than she realized, and her old roommate must have been picking up her slack. She could have sworn she had more milk left when she put the carton back in the fridge, but when she grabbed it the next morning for her cereal there was almost none left. And then there were all the things that just seemed to disappear for no reason that never reappeared, no matter how hard she looked.
One thing that didn’t seem to disappear was her crush on her neighbor Gerard. Interacting with him also became part of her routine, as it always seemed they were running into each other walking into the building or by the mailboxes.
It just happened that it was one of those lucky days, as (YN) had just walked in with her bags from grocery shopping when Gerard walked by.
“Hey (YN),” he smiled.
“Gerard,” (YN) started, trying to stifle a laugh. “ I’m not trying to be mean, but do you know how to cook? I feel like I’ve only ever seen you with take out, but never groceries,” she said nodding to her own bags.
“I know how to cook! I am a functional adult,” he replied with feigned offense.
“If you say so, enjoy your dinner,” (YN) replied as she entered her apartment.
“I’ll prove it to you,” he called just as she was about to shut the door.
She poked her head out the door, eyebrows raised. “Oh really?”
“Tomorrow night? 7 o’clock?”
“I’ll be there,” she replied with a smile. When the door was shut behind her, she couldn’t help but let out a squeal of delight.
The next evening (YN) was digging through her drawers looking for the sweater she wanted to wear to dinner with Gerard, but she absolutely could not find it.
“This is crazy, I know I saw it when I was putting away laundry,” she muttered to herself. She got up and went over to the closet housing the washer and dryer, in hopes it had just fallen between the machines, or maybe was still in the dryer. She looked all around but found nothing, and trudged back to her room.
‘Wait, I didn’t turn the light off,’ she said, flipping the switch back on with a shake of her head. “I need to get more sleep.”
Giving up the search, she threw on a different top and checked the time. It was a few minutes past 7 and she hurried out the door.
“Welcome to my humble home,” Gerard said with a smile as he let (YN) in.
“Hmm, seems familiar,” (YN) giggled. “Oh dinner smells great!”
“Thank you,” Gerard smiled proudly. “We’ll be having spaghetti and meatballs. Umm, I don’t drink, so I have soda or water,” Gerard offered.
“Water is fine,” (YN) replied as she sat down at the table. “How’d you day go?”
“Good, I think I have a new story I wanna work on,” he answered as he placed plates on the table and sat down himself. “How about you.”
“Pretty boring actually. I’ll have to admit, knowing that we’re gonna be having dinner got me through my day.”
Gerard smiled and (YN) could have sworn she saw a blush creeping across his cheeks as he glanced down. "I'm glad I could help."
Conversation lulled as they dug into their meals, and The Smashing Pumpkins played softly in the background.
"Ok, I have to apologize for that dig yesterday about you not cooking, this is very good,” (YN) smiled.
"I have to admit, I bought the sauce, and the meatballs were frozen," Gerard winced.
“That’s fine! I do the same,” she laughed and Gerard looked relieved.
(YN) was having a wonderful time hanging out with Gerard and she felt like she could listen to him talk forever. He spoke with such passion and enthusiasm, it drew her in and she hung on his words. They laughed and joked and the time flew by until (YN) found herself stifling a yawn and she glanced down at her watch.
"Oh, it's late! I should get outta your hair."
“Well m’lady,” he said, affecting the same posh accent they had been joking around in earlier and bowing before her, “I do hope this evening has lived up to all your expectations.”
“It most certainly has,” she said with a laugh as she curtseyed holding out an imaginary skirt.
Gerard reached out and took her hand in his and placed a kiss to the back of it, catching her off guard as he looked up at her from behind his lashes. "I hope we can do it again sometime soon."
(YN) nodded. "Yea," she said almost breathlessly. "I'd love that."
Gerard walked her to the door and when she glanced back at him when she reached her own door, he was leaning against his door frame.
"Night," she waved before walking into her apartment and he smiled and waved back.
(YN) could hardly sleep that night, as she was absolutely buzzing.
~
Weekly dinners soon became a tradition between (YN) and Gerard, with both of them taking turns hosting the other. (YN) knew she was terrible at both flirting and picking up when others were flirting with her, but she couldn't help but feel like Gerard might just like her too. There was something about the way his friendly hugs and touches started to linger longer and longer.
One night when they had been hanging out Gerard had casually mentioned going to hang out with his brother on his birthday, so (YN) took it upon herself to bring him his present before he left that day. As she stood at his door, she felt just as nervous as the first time she was at his door asking for help with her boxes. Once again she was totally lost in thought when Gerard opened the door.
"Hey (YN)!" He greeted her.
"Hi! Happy birthday!" She smiled, holding out the plate of chocolate chip cookies and the card she picked out just for him.
"You remembered my birthday?" He asked, his eyes going wide and pink dusting his cheeks.
"Of course I did!" She laughed. “How could I forget?” She added a little more softly.
The smile grew on Gerard’s face and (YN)’s heart fluttered. “Thanks,” he finally replied, shaking his head. “Hey (YN), I was wondering, if umm, you’d like to maybe like go out on a date, like a real date some time? Don’t feel like you have to say yes just because it’s my birthday.”
(YN) laughed again, and she could feel herself blushing. “Yea, that would be really nice,” she nodded. “And I definitely would have said yes, even if it wasn’t your birthday.”
“Great!” Gerard grinned, but the buzzing of his phone grabbed his attention. "Oh, Mikey's here."
"Have fun with him," (YN) smiled and waved as she turned to go while Gerard grabbed his jacket and keys.
"Wait," Gerard said as he locked the door and jogged over to her, just as she was reaching her door. She looked up at him expectantly and he seemed nervous again before leaning in and placing a chaste kiss on her cheek. "Thanks again for the card."
"No problem," (YN) smiled before ducking into her own apartment to swoon.
~
A few days later, it was finally the day of their first date. Gerard suggested they go to the art museum and grab coffee. Even though they hung out all the time, the fact that this was actually a date made things ever so slightly awkward. As they walked into the museum, their hands brushed a few times before Gerard took her hand in his. She glanced over and smiled up at him and he seemed relieved. They chatted and joked happily as they walked through the exhibits before they went down the street to the cafe.
Finding a table tucked away from the others, they settled in with their coffees. The sun that had been shining when they walked in was soon covered in dark heavy clouds, and big heavy raindrops began to beat at the windows. Something about it made a shiver run down (YN)'s spine, a feeling she’d almost grown accustomed to.
"Gerard, can I ask you something kinda weird?" She asked when there was a lull in the conversation.
"Sure," he nodded.
(YN) sighed and looked down. "This is gonna sound crazy, and maybe I'm going crazy, but sometimes things get moved in my apartment, or I feel like someone or something is watching me. I've checked every inch of it and there's nothing there, but I dunno. Have you ever felt that in your apartment?" She finally looked up and was startled by Gerard's expression.
"Yea," he said softly, a look of unease on his face. "I totally know what you mean. I notice it when I’m at your place mostly, but sometimes when you come around," he trailed off.
"But, I mean, ghosts and stuff aren’t real though, right? Like It’s probably just the vibe of it being an old building.”
“Yea,” Gerard nodded with a tight smile. “Ghosts aren’t real, vampires aren’t gonna hurt you, zombies aren’t gonna eat your brain while you’re at the mall.”
“Right! You are right. I’m sure it will pass.”
After the rain stopped, they headed back to their building and headed up to the third floor, stopping in front of her door.
“I had a lot of fun today,” (YN) smiled.
“Me too,” Gerard nodded. “I, I really like you (YN). I hope we can do this again.”
(YN) grinned and nodded. “I really like you too Gee, and yes I’d really love to go out again as well.”
Gerard’s face lit up, any nervousness alleviated. He reached up, cupping her cheek gently, as her eyelids fluttered closed. He leaned in and pressed his lips against hers softly, before pulling back just as quick.
“I can’t wait to do that again,” Gerard whispered.
“Then do it again,” she replied.
Gerard didn’t hesitate for a second longer, leaning back in and kissing her deeply as she kissed back. His hand found her waist as she clutched his jacket. When they finally pulled back, they were both breathless and smiling.
(YN) knew that it was the start of something special.
~
Summer arrived with warm weather and abundant sunshine, but that didn’t stop the cold drafts that would breeze through (YN)’s apartment, even when the air conditioning was off. But then the noises started. Thumps and knocks in the middle of the night, jolting her awake. Once she was convinced someone was hammering frantically on her door. In the middle of the night. She jumped out of bed and rushed to the door, checking through the peephole to see who was there. But there was no one.
The solution that seemed to be working best was spending as much time away from the apartment, specifically out with Gerard. From picnics in the park, to going to movies, cafes, wandering around book stores or comic book shops for hours, (YN) loved every moment of it.
One evening they were watching a movie in her apartment, happily curled up on the couch together when the thumps in the wall began behind them.
“What was that?” Gerard asked, startled.
(YN) sighed. “No idea. It’s been like this for a while now. I called the maintenance guy, but he doesn't think anything is in the walls. It’s why I’ve been so tired lately, I haven’t been sleeping, like at all.”
“Do you wanna come stay over at my place tonight? Maybe you’ll sleep better,” he offered.
(YN) smiled back at him. “Ok sure,” she nodded. When the movie was over, she changed into pajamas and they made their way back over to his apartment for the night. The next morning when she woke up, she stretched and sighed happily as Gerard held her close.
“Sleep well?” Gerard asked sleepily.
“Mmhmm,” she replied, looking up at him. She reached up and brushed away the hair that was falling across his face. “Best I have in a long time.”
“You’re welcome here anytime you want, sugar,” he said leaning in and kissing her sweetly.
"I worry that I'll overstay my welcome if I’m over here that often," (YN) laughed.
"Not possible, sugar," he said with a smile. "I love getting to spend my nights with you. Days too. I guess what I’m trying to say is I love you, (YN)."
“I love you too Gerard,” she replied before leaning in and kissing him deeply.
~
September arrived and Gerard was going to be gone for the weekend with a few of his friends on a guy’s trip for his brother Mikey’s birthday. (YN) was a little nervous at first about being alone at night, to the point where she was considering going to visit her parents for the weekend. Surprisingly, she was able to sleep through the night without any noises or strange occurrences waking her up.
The next morning she got up and went to retrieve a mug from the cupboard for her morning coffee. Without warning, a glass flew down from the top shelf, smashing into her forehead. (YN) yelped in surprise and stumbled back, glass shards littering the floor. Tentatively she reached up and touched just above her brow and when she pulled back, her fingers were covered in blood.
"Shiiiiit," she groaned as she carefully stepped over the broken glass on the floor and made her way to the bathroom. Flipping on the light, she felt nauseous at the sight. Blood dripping from the gash landed and streaked down her cheek like tears, accenting the dark circles under her eyes that she just couldn't shake after so many nights of interrupted sleep. She looked like death.
"Gee must really love me if this is what he's looking at every day," she muttered as she dabbed away at the blood with a washcloth.
A few hours later while walking out the emergency department with a fresh set of stitches, she decided she may as well fill in Gerard.
Happy friday! guess where i just left!
From Gerard 💖: Work let you take a half day?
Hospital 😬
She dropped her phone back into her purse as she made her way across the parking lot, but by the time she got the door unlocked, Gerard was calling her.
"What happened?!" He asked frantically as soon as she picked up.
(YN) sighed. "A glass fell out of my cupboard and I got a cut above my eyebrow. Just a couple stitches and I wanted to make sure they got all the glass out," she replied, downplaying the accident. She knew he'd be back in a few days and he'd know she wasn't telling the whole truth about the cut, but she didn't want him to worry or end his trip early.
"But you're ok? Do you want me to come back?"
"Yes, I'm ok. But no, don't cut your trip short, I'm gonna go straight over to my parents for the rest of the weekendI think. It's one thing when we're losing sleep with weird noises, it's another to be attacked like this."
"You… you think," he sighed, seeming to be choosing his words carefully. "That a ghost did it?" Gerard asked in a hushed tone.
"If the glass was off balance and simply fell out of the cupboard it would have gone straight down. This was thrown at me, Gee. There was force behind it."
"Fuck," Gerard muttered. "I'm sorry sugar."
"Don't worry, I'm ok, I promise."
~
(YN) was grateful that Gerard believed what she told him about the haunting of her apartment. He could have easily dismissed her or her fears as crazy and ghost her, but he didn't. He was just as concerned about the situation and her wellbeing. After that weekend they began talking about moving out as soon as their leases were up.
It had been a couple weeks when Gerard had a meeting in the city that was going to run late into the evening, so (YN) was stuck spending the night alone in her own apartment for the first time since the attack.
As she got in bed, she wondered how long it would be before she would be woken up at night. The noises always managed to cut right through her slumber to wake her, no matter how exhausted she was when she fell asleep. And exhausted she was as her eyelids were heavy as soon as her head hit the pillow.
She wasn't sure what time it was when the noise woke her up, but she sat up in bed and looked at the ceiling. It sounded like skittering, and she wondered if it might be something as innocent as an animal stuck in the attic. 'Wouldn't it be something if it was some animal all along,' she thought as she laid back down and closed her eyes again.
What felt like only moments later she opened them again, but she was not in her room. She wasn’t even in her apartment.
“Gerard?”
He looked up from where he was sitting on the floor in front of his couch with a look of concern and fear on his face unlike any she had seen before. “(YN), are you ok?”
“No, I’m- why am I in your apartment?”
“I was asleep and some noise up in the attic woke me up, but before I could fall back asleep there was this loud bang and I went up to check what was going on because it sounded different from anything before, and you were up there on the floor like you fainted. You didn't even stir until just now when you woke up.”
(YN) shook her head. “I heard the noise too, but I went back to sleep, I didn’t even get out of bed, I went right back to sleep until I just woke up here. What could have made me faint if I wasn't even awake and can’t remember what I saw?”
Gerard ran his hand through his hair, considering her question and when he spoke, his voice shook slightly. “I… I dunno (YN). After I brought you down from the attic, I went back to your apartment so I could put you in your own bed and your door was locked.”
“But that’s not possible unless I took my keys and locked it behind me. Should we go up and look for them upstairs?”
“No!” Gerard said quickly. “I mean, I don’t want to make you stay here if you don’t want, we can call the maintenance line to let you in, but I don’t wanna go up there again. Tonight, I mean.”
(YN) climbed off the couch and sat next to him on the floor. “I’ll stay here, you know that's fine but,” she paused, taking a deep breath. “What did you see up there Gee?”
He shook his head, looking down at his hands. “We can talk about it in the morning? It’s late.”
(YN) swallowed hard and nodded. "Yea, that's a good idea."
Gerard got up, offered her a hand, helping her up. He placed a kiss to the back of her hand before leading the way to his room.
(YN) always felt safe with Gerard's arms wrapped around her holding her tight, but it was still a very poor night of sleep for both of them. The next morning (YN) and Gerard were sitting in his living room, sipping coffee in silence before (YN)'s curiosity got the best of her.
"Can you tell me what you saw up there now?" (YN) asked suddenly.
Gerard looked up at her, the dark circles under his eyes matching hers. He sighed and ran a hand through his dark hair. "Do you really wanna know?"
(YN) nodded. "I wanna understand what happened last night. Well as much of it as I can."
Gerard drew a deep breath. "Ok. I went up there when I heard the second bang. I was kinda surprised the door was open. And then I was shining my flashlight around and," he drew in a breath and shook his head. "I thought I saw someone at the far end of the attic, but my flashlight went through him. I started to panic and that's when I realized you were on the floor. I grabbed you and carried you back down here and, well you know the rest."
"You saw the ghost?" (YN) asked, her voice cracking with fear.
Gerard nodded solemnly. "I think so."
~
Gerard's words kept ringing through (YN)'s mind. There was no denying it now, she was being haunted by a ghost. She was, generally speaking, freaked out about the whole situation, but also a little curious. That's when she remembered the museum on the first floor.
The space was small, no larger than an office. Shelves were filled with books and bibles, and old black and white photos lined the walls, but one picture stood out as different from the rest. An elderly woman stood before it, gazing up at the portrait of the young man.
"Excuse me, do you know any of the history of this building?"
The elderly woman tore her eyes off the photo and looked back at (YN). "Well, I should say I do. What can I help you with?"
"I don't know how to ask this delicately, but, umm, is there any reason to believe that it might be haunted?"
The elderly woman nodded slowly. "Well, yes, I suppose there would be," she replied before glancing back at the portrait. "This was my brother, Joshua. He was in the seminary and was going to become a priest when he met her."
"Her?"
"Elenora. She was beautiful," she paused, studying (YN) for a moment, "actually you remind me of her. But he was so conflicted, he wanted to be a priest, but he was so enchanted by her. He convinced himself, and her, that the only way they could be together was in death."
"Oh no," (YN) gasped.
She nodded. "They were to jump together from the roof. He went first, she never went."
"I'm so sorry," she replied softly.
"It was 60 years ago. I had known Elenora my whole life, so I blamed myself for introducing her into his life, but I didn't blame her! I still don't. I don't admit this to many people, but we're still friends."
"You have a very forgiving heart," (YN) smiled. "Thank you for telling me all that."
She nodded. "That is what I am here for," she replied as she walked around to a small desk and picked up a dust rag before turning back to one of the shelves.
(YN) made her way back to her apartment and shut the door. "Joshua, if that's you, please leave me alone," she said.
Nothing happened and (YN) shrugged.
~
The cool fall weather settled in and October was filled with the warm glow of red, yellow, and orange leaves on the trees outside, but by Halloween, the branches were blown bare, leaving dark, imposing branches reaching toward the sky.
Gerard's friend Frank invited them to his house for a Halloween party, and to celebrate his birthday.
A night out, dressed as Bonnie and Clyde, was exactly what they both needed after all the time they spent living in a real life haunted house for almost a year now. (YN) also loved spending time with Gerard's friends. They quickly made her feel welcome and made her future with Gerard seem even better.
It wasn't too terribly late when they decided to call it a night and headed home. "I'm gonna go change and I'll be over," (YN) said before heading into her apartment. Gerard nodded and headed to his own door.
She kicked off her shoes and dropped her jacket over the back of the chair when she felt a cold rush of air blow past her. She closed her eyes as a shiver ran through her whole body. When she opened them, again the cold air was surrounding her, wind blowing her skirt around as a freezing rain started to pelt her arms and face. Frantically she looked around, realizing she was on a rooftop. Before she could get her bearings, phantom hands were on her, pushing and pulling her toward the edge.
"No! No! Get off of me! Let go!" She screamed, flailing her arms, trying to shake off the attack. She seemed to break free and started to run toward the hatch to the attic.
The hands grabbed her ankle and sent her tumbling to the rough surface of the roof. When she looked over her shoulder, a figure made of a shadowy mist was pulling her by the leg toward the edge.
"No! Stop it! No!" She screamed again, her hands scratching at the roof, trying to make purchase.
From behind her she heard a bang. She looked up and saw Gerard at the opening to the attic. "(YN)!"
"Gee! Help!"
"Let her go!" Gerard commanded as he ran to (YN), pulling her off the ground and wrapping her in his arms protectively. She buried her face against his shoulder as she clutched his shirt. "Are you ok? I got you sugar, you’re safe now."
"No, no I'm not ok," she sobbed.
"Come on, let's get inside."
Gerard helped her down the ladder and carried her down the stairs to his apartment. He set her down in the bathroom and set to work cleaning the cuts across her hands, legs, and feet.
"Gee, I don't wanna stay here tonight, I can’t stay here anymore, I have to move or I’m gonna end up dead!" (YN) cried as Gerard wiped the blood away from her palm.
"I know sugar, I'll get you cleaned up and we'll go find a hotel room tonight, ok?" (YN) sniffled and nodded in agreement. “And then in the morning we’re gonna find a new place to live, you and me.”
(YN) had been watching as he worked, but hearing him say that she looked up at him. “Together? Even after all this? What if it follows me?!"
He reached up and wiped away the tears that were rolling down her cheek. “Together. Nothing's gonna come between us, not even a ghost."
A smile finally broke across her face as he placed bandages on the worst cuts. Then she finally changed out of her soaked and bloodied Halloween costume and into a pair of Gerard's sweatpants and an old hoodie. She didn't have shoes, but she didn't care. She wasn't going back into her apartment until the day she was going back to pack it up and move out. And even then, she was considering hiring someone to do it for her.
"Ready to go?" He asked when she walked out of his room.
"Let’s get away from here," she nodded and he took her hand. They hurried through the cold rain to his car and she sighed as she sunk into the passenger seat. She finally felt free.
Gerard started down the long tree-lined drive when suddenly a large tree limb came crashing down in front of them. (YN) screamed as Gerard slammed on the breaks.
"Shit! Are you ok?" He asked breathlessly.
"Look!" She whimpered, pointing a shaking finger out the window. Gerard looked as well at the ghastly figure on the other side of the branch. Gerard put the car in park and unbuckled his seatbelt.
"Gee, what are you doing? Gee? Gerard! Stop it, get back in here!" She cried frantically as he got out of the car. Not knowing what else to do, she scrambled out as well.
"Give her to me!" The phantom wailed, striking cold terror through her. "I gave my life for my love, she belongs to me!"
"This is not your love!" Gerard shouted back.
She moved to stand next to Gerard, interlacing her fingers with his. "I'm not Elenora! I've never done you wrong!" She pleaded. "Gerard is my true love! Let us pass!"
The phantom's face contorted, snarling, teeth growing long, fingers becoming claw-like. (YN) screamed in fright as Gerard stepped in front of her. As the ghost launched at them, headlights came up the drive, shining bright in their eyes, and the phantom faded into nothing.
The other car stopped and the driver got out. "Need help moving that branch outta the way? Woah, you two look like you've seen a ghost," the man laughed.
Gerard shook his head and looked back at (YN) sympathetically. "Well, it is Halloween."
~
A few months later (YN) and Gerard had settled into their new place. There was nothing in the new place that (YN) would describe as too good to be true. Their commutes were longer, they had to go to the laundromat to do laundry, and they were paying more in rent, but they were together and they finally had peace. And that was worth every penny.
“Hey Gee,” (YN) said as she padded into the living room one Saturday afternoon, holding something behind her back.
“Yea sugar?”
“So I’ve been working on something. I’m not sure it’s any good, but I think it’s finally ready for you to look at.”
Gerard sat up and looked up at her curiously. “What is it?” (YN) handed him a binder. “The Haunting on Holy Name Hill."
“A long time ago, back when we first met, you said I should try writing or drawing if I’m interested in it because you never know when inspiration will strike, and since moving out of that awful place I’ve been trying to wrap my head around everything that happened. So I started writing about it," she shrugged. "I fictionalized some of the events and changed our names, but can you read it and tell me if it’s any good?”
“(YN) I’m so proud of you,” he said with a smile as he got up and wrapped her in a hug. “I’m gonna read it right now.”
“If you insist. I’m gonna go to the laundromat.”
A while later when (YN) came back, Gerard wasn’t on the couch where she’d left him. “Hey Gee, did you finish reading it yet?”
“Yep,” she heard him reply as he came back from the second bedroom they’d set up as his office. “And I have something to show you too.”
“What’s that?”
“First of all, wow, the story is so well written!” he grinned.
“Seriously?”
“Seriously, you’re a natural! And second, look,” he said handing her a stack of drawings.
“What are these?”
“I was thinking, if you want, we could pitch your story as a graphic novel and these are some drawings I did when I was reading it. This is your character, this one is me.”
“Gee, these are amazing! And you really think that it’s publishable?”
“I really do,” he nodded.
“Ok yea, let’s do it. Other than being the place where we met, there should be some kind of good that comes from that awful place. And maybe serve as a warning to everyone else about things that seem too good to be true."

Did you see Technocoven a few weeks ago? It was an online witchcraft convention organized by Prim. I went to it because it sounded cool and interesting. While the con did raise some money for charity, there wasn't really any substance to anything in the panels. I'm a beginner practitioner(almost 4 years) even I could tell that most of the panelists only had surface level knowledge. I now realize the entire thing was probably an add campaign, but I still wish it was better.
I didn't see it. I know very little about this person. I haven't had the errrr.... pleasure of engaging with her content to such a degree.
All I know is what I saw, which is that she apparently resurrected an antique beef that I only really learned about in real time as it was falsely leveraged to convince most of witchblr that myself and therainshallmakeadoor are terrifyingly awful, notorious racists.
In the words of the now defunct eclecticwitcheryafoot/luxatemnox we "went after people of color and dont like being called out"., who supported this claim with screenshots that do not even display such a thing occurring.
I assume I've been targeted because my shitposty pagan roasty num nums perhaps have hit a bit too close to home, because I've made the unforgivable mistake of making shitposts about spooky community issues and "let me sell ya some witchcraft, fellas" types pretty much as long as I've been on here.
Oh, and reblogging from the wrong people, who, I guess by her allowable number of degrees of separation between bloggers that have ever expressed distaste for this apparent pattern she has, 2 - 4 degrees is too close and so you must be also conspiring against her.
Six months ago I couldn't tell you who she was. Still really can't. But I am now officially down to shitpost forever about this new archetype of the pagan community, the Pink Dictator, that I have had the pleasure to experience first hand.
I'm not the only person on here who has this same story. You're deemed unfit to walk the earth by prim, she strikes you down with extremely unspecific allegations of racism, ableism, or any other ism. It really doesn't matter if the ism even fits the person in question.
If I have ever said anything to offend POC, I am absolutely open to having that conversation and am down to dismantle systematic racism. I won't deny the validity of good faith attempts of eliminating the community of racists, because they are out there.
I'm totally on board against nazis, terfs, anti semitic people, racists, cultural appropriators, etc.
But it's being made out like I'm not. Same with Briar. (Therainshallmakeador)
Anyone who is honestly reasonable and has been following either of us for any length of time or interacted can surely attest to the fact that we have never been seen expressing any sort of alt right, kkk, master race, white-patriarchy-ass-sucking bullshit. Racism is bad.
-Isms are usually bad. Everyone is in agreement.
But we were basically just smeared with accusations of extremely unspecific microaggressions, as has apparently everyone who has ever pissed her off somehow, as shown by the deluge of other bloggers coming up to post about their similar experiences.
I dont know the specifics of the antique beef, but everytime she beefs with anybody it seems like it's always "these people want to HURT ME, these people are AFTER ME these people are CURSING ME because they're racist and ableist and elitist and I'm just a young pagan witch who doesn't DESERVE THIS and these people have organized into this CABAL and they've launched a HARASSEMENT CAMPAIGN and I'm taking a HIATUS because of the STRESS of these people HURTING ME, AND THESE PEOPLE KNOW WHO I AM and I'm IN REAL PHYSICAL DANGER."
And.... holy shit, dude.
I'm sure as fuck not after her, seems like she is not in a good place.
I dont really know the specifics of her beef with me.
All I know is one day I woke up and myself and therainshallmakeadoor were marked as "notoriously" unsavory racists.
Literally, like weirdly cropped screenshots of literally nothing meant as a racial attack on anyone were being circulated. Maybe still are. I have no idea. I know yall are tired of hearing about this. So am I. I was going to work on a knife for my friend today. I'm not an ex fan or a consumer of her content. All I'm going to have to say if I'm asked about her, is way too many words to say that she is a liar, because that is really the only thing that I know about her.

Halloween Fic Recs
+ 1k Followers! Thank you guys so much. I love sharing my fave fics with you here, so I’m really happy that you’re having as much fun as i do!
Now, this is a bit last minute, but it’s definitely still October in some parts of the world, so let’s go! Here’s an incomplete collection of Halloween-themed fics full of parties, costumes, magic, creatures, horror, gore, and pumpkins.
Included: Halloween, horror, or monster themed fics. Not included: The usual canon-typical Upside Down shenanigans, unless there’s a special spooky twist to it, or that one very particular Halloween ‘84.
31 fics under the cut  – Happy Halloween!
Heaven is a Place on Earth by CeruleanHeart / @highon85 (3k, T, Winged!Billy)
One late summer night Steve finds an angel crash-landed in a dirty alleyway. Or so Steve thinks, until the guy opens his mouth. Billy is a mess, drunk and mean and not angelic in the least. But he’s also hurt and beautiful so Steve stays to help despite better judgement.
taste you on my tongue by callunavulgari / @callunavulgari (2k, E, Vampire!Billy)
“You’ve never felt pleasure like it, Steve,” an old girlfriend had told him once, her eyes bright with memory. She’d been from the big city, where the vampires had their pick of willing donors, where all they had to do to get a meal was walk into a club. Some of them, the older, better known vamps wouldn’t even have to do that. They could pull someone straight off the street, roll down their windows and beckon. Steve shrugged. “No vampires here, though.” They’d broken up a few days later, and he hadn’t given it much thought. After all, what were the chances that a vampire would end up in boring, small town Hawkins, Indiana?
Gee My Life’s a Funny Thing by moonflowers / @eatingmoonflowers (7k, T, Mermaid!Billy)
Steve finds a boy in the water.
867-5309 (billy) by reject_mikeyy / @reject-mikeyy (14k, NR, Halloween)
Once he is done vomiting, Steve takes a second to rest his head on the cool toilet seat before realizing that. Wow. Ew. Not in the boys’ bathroom, thanks. Not in a homophobic way, don’t get him wrong, he’s eaten his fair share of ass but just. Germs and shit. Anyway. When he looks up from the bowl for the first time, he notices something scrawled on the wall at eye level. For a good time, text: 221-867-5309 Eyeroll. Or: In which Billy is the unlucky sucker with his number written on a bathroom stall, and Steve is the oblivious fool who actually texts him.
the wild hunt by celoica / @celoica (3k, E, Witch!Steve, Werewolf!Billy)
It had been his idea. Everything had been his idea. From the day Billy Hargrove had rolled up in his vintage car to the day Steve had walked into school with a fresh bite on his neck, proudly scabbed over and on display for his entire class to see, it had been all Steve’s idea. Billy did something witchy to his blood, thickening it under his skin and making it hard for him to think about anything else. At first, he’d thought maybe an incubus, something demonic and lust-driven and so out of place in tiny Hawkins, Indiana, until Laurie had leaned over and whispered about the new kid being a werewolf. The last time they’d had one of those in Roane County had been before Steve had been born. Even without the full moon to influence him, Billy was everything Steve had imagined a werewolf to be; aggressive and larger than life, in tune with the people who watched him with curious eyes, charming until it made Steve’s stomach clench in jealousy when his attention was on anyone but him. Witchy. To him. The witch.
bury a friend (try to wake up) by callunavulgari / @callunavulgari (1k, M, Witch!Steve)
Steve digs up Billy’s body on a Tuesday.
been crawling by kate_button / @un-buttoned (3k, E, Halloween)
The crop top was right there on the main aisle in the women’s section. Steve’s not entirely sure, like, why it exists, but he’s not disappointed about it. The rest of it came together pretty quickly (and cheaply) after that. So anyway, that’s how he finds himself drinking jungle juice out of a red solo cup looking like the twenty-two-year-old-man version of Karen Smith, animal ears and too much skin, bada boom, costume. I’m a dog. Duh.
journeys end by gothyringwald / @gothyringwald  (11k, M, Ghosts)
When Billy convinces Steve to spend Halloween at the Vance house—an abandoned house on the outskirts of Hawkins rumoured to be haunted—they discover that the Upside Down doesn’t have the monopoly on otherworldly.
Tell Me, What Did You Expect? by trashcangimmick / @trashcangimmick (2k, E, Tentacles!Billy)
After the battle of Starcourt, Steve wakes up on his living room couch with Billy Hargrove standing over him. There’s something a little different about Billy.
i shot the sheriff by ToAStranger / @toast-ranger-to-a-stranger (800, T, Halloween)
Drunk shenanigans.
tides will bring me back to you by eternalgoldfish / @eternalgoldfish (32k, M, Ghost!Billy)
It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t right. Billy sat in the dark, eyes closed, listening to the clock on the mantle tick and the refrigerator hum. Steve Harrington was nothing to him, a regret, maybe, a bitter taste in his mouth, but not a friend. If Billy was resentful, he thought maybe he’d see the logic in the afterlife pinning them together, but he didn’t feel a sense of longing or torment, didn’t feel like he was being pulled between life and death, or between realms. He just was, painless, lead in his belly as he sat on the floor by Steve’s feet. If he was meant to be trying to get somewhere, he didn’t know where. Was he supposed to pass on? He curled his knees up to his chest and watched Steve sleep, Steve’s lips shiny with spit and hair hanging over his forehead. Or, how to find love as a ghost.
Haunted House Workers by prettyboiiharringrove / @prettyboiiharringrove (1k, T, Costumes)
It’s far from the easiest job in the world, but Billy met the love of his life through this gig and he gets to scare people on a daily basis, so most of the time it’s a fucking dream, but tonight, well tonight Billy is feeling a little concerned and a lot murderous.
teeth only for you by gothyringwald / @gothyringwald (2k, M, Vampire!Steve)
Steve has a secret. Billy thinks he knows what it is, but he couldn’t be more wrong.
No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross by Your_Iron_Lung / @godshattered(WIP, 66k, T, Werewolf!Billy)
A strange string of parties held out in the deep woods of Hawkins, Indiana, plays host to Steve Harrington and his doubts about his future. Every weekend the party is relocated, and somehow Steve is always privy to the knowledge of where it’s going to be. What he doesn’t know is who’s hosting them, or why. There’s something weird about them that he can’t quite place, but he still finds himself drawn to them week after week, if only to use them as an escape from his stressful post-Upside Down reality. The weirdest part of all, however, is the fact that Billy Hargrove seems to be invited to them as well, and- There’s something in the woods.
a whisper in my bones (keeps me restless, whole) by tol_sirion / @etterklang (3k, E, Demon!Billy)
Steve knows not to wander off alone in the woods, has been told not to so many times. He’s never been very good at listening. It pays off.
Never Seen That Color Blue by Kerasines / @kerasines (WIP, 4k, E, Tentacles!Billy)
Billy doesn’t want to think it, but Steve goes ahead and says it anyway. “A tentacle.” He looks as apprehensive as Billy feels at the thought of a fucking tentacle being attached to Billy’s body in any way, let alone spontaneously growing out of his back. Jesus, what the fuck. But it’s undeniable that that’s what it looked like. What it felt like. “Fuck you. Christ. What the fuck.” Billy rubs his eyes until he sees stars.
You’re Dead and Out of this World by shocked_into_shame (2k, E, Vampire!Billy)
Billy’s a vampire and Steve is his familiar, toiling after him with the promise that one day he’ll become immortal too. You’d think that Steve would have a certain amount of reverence for the dead - but all he can muster is annoyance these days.
Through The Forest, Through The Trees by trashcangimmick / @trashcangimmick (WIP, 24k, E, Were-demogorgon!Billy)
Billy gets bitten by something strange in the woods. After that, life becomes even stranger.

“No one told me that you molest people in their sleep,” he mutters, trying to keep his voice quiet. Above him, Johnny grunts and turns over. The hand goes still. “You can see me,” a voice murmurs. “Yeah.” Steve sighs. “I can see you.” “How?” Steve’s been able to see dead people since he was four years old. But people don’t tend to respond well when children tell them that the old man across the street watering his lawn had a bullet through his head, so after the fourth therapist, Steve had learned that it was something best kept secret. “I’ve got the sight, man,” he says with a small shrug. “And look, I feel for you. You’re dead and I’m not, and that sucks, but unless you’re planning on doing something about it, I’d really appreciate it if you could stop feeling me up and let me get back to sleep.”
A love of violence by gideongrace / @gideongrace (6k, E, Serial killer!Billy)
Billy and Neil are serial killers. One night, Neil brings Billy a present. The boy he’s been lusting after - Steve Harrington - blindfolded and tied to a bed in a motel room. Neil clearly thinks this is a good idea. He almost certainly wouldn’t think it would end in his death. (He’s wrong.)

In 1985 Steve Harrington dies. His parents and the people of Hawkins all believe it was a tragic accident. Only a small group of people know he died valiantly protecting his friends from monsters. Six months later, he is one of the dead who rise again.

“What? You’re not scared, are you?” “No,” he answers, indignant, but he doesn’t even convince himself. “No, I just --” “You know what they say about fear, right?” the voice asks. “That it’s almost indistinguishable from arousal. That your body can’t tell the difference.” “They don’t say that,” Steve says, poking his head out the door and looking left to right. He’s just fucking exasperated. “Nobody says that.” “I say that.” Or: Steve gets a Scream-style call while he's babysitting the kids on Halloween night, and right now would be a really good fucking time for Billy to get home from work. Billy likes masks.
The Seventh Life by Klayr_de_Gall / @klayr-de-gall (WIP, 7k, M, Witch!Steve, Familiar!Billy)
With Allhallowtide looming two nights over, Steve feels restless and irritated, a bit on edge. The pull of that powerful event makes his bones arch stronger every year. The last thing he needs is some Californian Hotshot swaggering into his life, carrying the smell of trouble and a curse.
If You Need It (Do It For Me) by youcallherhephanie / @harring-rove (2k, T, Vampire!Steve)
Suffice to say, Billy’s neighbour was weird. Not the usual type of weird; you didn’t catch him smelling someone’s hair or lingering in an alleyway like a creep. No, he wasn’t weird weird, but there was something off about the guy. Whenever he was coming back from his morning runs, up in the early morning when the sun just barely peaked over the city, Billy’d see the guy walking through the apartment building. Sometimes, they’d bump into each other when collecting their mail, when using the elevator. It was always a nod, a hello from Billy and a terse smile from the guy - Harrington, he’d found out from the group of grannies who lived in the building. That was where their interactions left. But maybe things were in for a change.
It Happened at the Halloween Fair by gothyringwald / @gothyringwald & socknonny / @socknonny (9k, T, Halloween, Monsters)
All Steve wants is to enter his mom’s pie at the Halloween Fair… what he doesn’t expect is Billy Hargrove, sentient teddy bears, and a giant, pink monstrosity. Seems like Halloween is about to get a whole lot weirder.
Effective Immediately by lololaufeyson / @lokibi (WIP, 22k, E, Vampire!Billy)
A what-if alternate ending and continuation of the season three finale where Billy tries to get out of dodge, but finds a few too many strings tethering him in Hawkins. Now if only he can find some damn scissors....
Where the wolf bane blooms by Confettibites / @confettibites (2k, E, Werewolf!Billy)

Hey there demons, it’s me, ya spreadsheet gremlin
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, it hasn’t quite been 6 months since I last posted about my crazy spreadsheet of BuzzFeed Unsolved viewcounts, but it has been just about a year since I first wrote all of them down (although with not exact counts for episodes that had 10+ million views because I didn’t realize YouTube rounded down on those unless you clicked specifically to open the count). And with the new season of True Crime premiering Friday (!) I thought this was a good time to see what’s changed in the past 5-ish months. (PS please subscribe to Watcher)
As before, here are some notes before I get into the cold, hard numbers.
I’m not a stats expert at all. I just like data and trying to understand YouTube. (I still do not). Also, like last time I posted about this, I am not included the newest season of BFU (Supernatural s6 along with the Dorothy Arnold special) as part of this initial data set, as it was airing when I last posted. I did add those numbers in to see and they do skew the data somewhat significantly.
The newest episode included for this part of the post is The Curse of Annabelle the Doll, aired June 28, 2019.
Since September 30, 2019, the following happened with BuzzFeed Unsolved’s viewcounts:
3 Cases of Ghosts and Demons became their most watched episode ever over The Bizarre Case of Elisa Lam. It currently has 22.2 million views. I’m so thrilled that the quintessential BFU episode is now their most viewed. No offense to Elisa Lam, but a non-Shane episode being at the top always bugged me. Ryan screaming at Sallie House while Shane laughs at him is what made the show into what we all know and love.
Supernatural episodes were watched an average of 1.48 million times.
True Crime episodes were watched an average or 1.03 million times.
This is a lot more statistically different than when I did this 5 months ago. (SPN averaged 1.48 million again and TC had 1.23) I wonder if it’s because October is spooky season and more people watch the SPN episodes then? Or if people just weren’t in a big TC mood since only one new TC episode aired in that time.
Overall, the average episode was watched 1.25 million times. There are 90 used for these averages and 97 episodes overall. We’re hitting 100 soon, baby!
The most watched episodes were the following: 3 Cases (3.1), The Exorcism of Anneliese (2.6) and Goatman’s Bridge (2.4). Hannah’s House also continued its strong showing. With 12.2 million views, it is now their 16th most watched episode. Only one other post-BUN episode has 10+ million views, Alcatraz (10.3).
The lowest view count gains were all season one episodes: Black Dahlia, Michelle Von Emster, Somerton Man, Dyatlov Pass, and Hinterkaifeck all with .3 million.
Now 31 episodes have 10 million or more views, compared to 22 last fall.
As for March 10, 2020, these are the 11 most watched episodes of BuzzFeed Unsolved: 3 Cases of Ghosts and Demons (22.2), The Bizarre Case of Elisa Lam (21.6), The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel (20),  The Illuminati (19.5), DB Cooper (15.4), Men in Black (14.9), Goatman’s Bridge (14.8), The Axeman (13.8), Queen Mary (13.5), and Waverly Hills and JFK (both 13.3).
Now, some stats on the newer episodes:
7 episodes of BFU aired starting September 20, 2019. They were watched an average of 4.16 million times. There wasn’t a huge breakout episode of this group, although The Haunting of Loey Lane does have the most views (5.2) so I would not be surprised if we get another house call episode in Supernatural season 7 this fall.
As of March 10, 2020, these are the 9 least watched episodes of BFU. Like before, they’re mostly newer. Also, I’m only doing 9 because 4 are tied for the 10th spot: Tombstone (4.7), Yuma Prison (4.4), Old City Jail (4.3), Pentagon UFOs (4.2), Bugsy Siegel (4.2), Area 51 (4.1), St. Augustine Lighthouse (4), Viper Room (3.4), and USS Yorktown (3.3).
Including all aired episodes, the average episode of BFU has been watched 8.81 million times.
Supernatural has averaged 9.03 million views while True Crime averaged 8.57 million views. I do think we can pretty much say that Supernatural is more popular than True Crime, but only slightly.
Once again, I have no idea what is considered successful in terms of YouTube. This is especially true now that I’m covering Watcher’s viewcounts as well. I truly don’t know what it takes for any show to cover the budget and make a profit. My hunch is that BFU does well, but maybe not great compared to other popular YouTubers (like the Try Guys for a close comparison) but they have a stronger and more passionate fanbase who buys more merch, makes memes, and does things like subscribe to their new channel’s Patreon in droves. Watcher’s viewcounts are much lower so far, but I am very interested to see what happens once True Crime starts airing this Friday. I’m sure BuzzFeed won’t allow them to plug Watcher during the proper episode (I’m less sure during the PostMortems but we’ll see), but with fans promoting Watcher in the comments, it might do a lot to see their subscriber and viewcounts go up. Watcher did get a small bump when the BFU season 6 bloopers came out last week, so I hope that will continue.
Finally, I was going to do some nearly-a-year stats but the math of whether to include newer episodes confused me so I am forgoing that for now. If you want to figure that out, here is my spreadsheet.
If you have any questions, hit me up! Also, if you can explain YouTube to me, that would be great.

(Natalia Romanova) Crossover Harry Potter x Marvel
So, Natalia Romanova. Daughter of Black Widow and the Winter Soldier. The Avengers are totally her honorary uncles and aunts. Since she‘s James‘ daughter she‘s a super soldier too and HYDRA did some experiments so she‘s now stronger/faster than Captain America. She is now also an empath and telepath. And since this is an AU, Black Widow is a witch (Harry Potter universe here). But she never learned magic like all the others, she never needed speels and a wand. Just like Natalia. The royal family has always been magic, so they are important too in the wizarding world. But since Natasha never has been at the magic places they think she‘s a squib and like her daughter magicless. Anyway.
So, the muggle world thinks, that Natalia goes to a private school with other rich kids, bc Natasha wants her childhood as normals as possible. They send her to Durmstrang, bc this is the perfect school for her. (In this fic, many dark wizard families send their children there, Durmstrang is almost as big as Hogwarts and a proud school. The asshole Igor somewhat is not there) And a former Red Room 'friend' of Natasha is teacher there, so she can train her daughter while school. She goes under the name Natalia Romanoff, but somehow they realize this is the princess of russia. Naturally they try to become her friend, but... her glare is really scary. And then she starts talking about her father and they are like, nooopee not with me. But someone doesn‘t recognizes her. One Draco Malfoy. His father sends him to Durmstrang, bc the school is known for the good teaching in DADA (they totally also learn some dark spells) and Lucius will not send his heir to the school where this Dumbleshit is. Draco only says once, 'my father will hear about this', but no one fears his father. They are all pretty chill and not like britain wizards. So Draco slowly changes, doesn’t become this little brat who runs to his father everytime. He’s more like: oh fuck, my mom will kill me, when he does something dumb. It‘s in the middle of the school year, when he sees Natalia in the library and they just start talking. He has no idea who she is, bc Malfoys hate the muggle world and yeah. Natalia notices that and decides, this is now my best friend. They start to hang out, prank some olders and become friends with Vikor Krum, who starts his career.
And everybody is like: boy, do you realize this is a princess? Draco is just confused until she tells him and he‘s just: why did you do this to me??? I thought we‘re friends? He takes it with humor, yk Draco isn’t this little shit like in canon, Well, he still can be, but only when necessary. Anyway, he’s totally proud, that he’s the best friend of the princess of russia.
Anyway. They become friends and Draco writes a letter, before he comes home. There he casually writes he befriended the Romanova heir and how she teached him some moves with knifes. His father pales, bc draco- how in the bloody hell did you become friends with the russian princess, who is the daughter of the most feared assassin??? His mother is proud and excited to meet this Natalia.
Anywayyy. Draco comes home, his father tries his usual shit, but his son just walks past him and hugs his mother. Narcissa approves™
Uhm... probably should mention that Draco let his hair grow? Bc omg- twelve year old Draco Malfoy with a undercut and a little bun. Omg- and then some years later. You either die, bc he‘s so cute or bc he‘s so hot.
Anyway. Draco and Natalia write through the summer and also meet. James begins to teach Draco, bc you are now the best friend of my daughter. She can‘t always protect you. The Malfoys meet the Romanovas and somehow the whole wizarding world knows this.
Lucius called Natalia a half blood, bc he tought James is one.
“Excuse me, my Lord. But my father is the head of the Barnes family, an old and ancient house of America. He is a true wizard, if the muggels wouldn‘t have tortured him, his magical core still would be intact.“ James stares at Lucius, like he’s ready to kill and then mutters something in russian. Natalia snorts unladylike, while Natasha grins. (James called Lucius a little boy, (in not so nice words) bc he fears his daughter who is twelve years old. Shame on you, Lucius)
Bc Natalia is bored, she created an Instagram account, where she immediately gained millions of followers.
“Hey there! You probably think, what the bloody hell is the princess of-"
“Stop swearing, young lady!“
“And this was my father... anyway. I have summer holidays and while I still prepare for the next school year, I have sooo much time to do nothing! And- Draco, come here! I want you to introduce to Instagram.“ Natalia grins widely, while she films Draco, who was reading a book about the history of Russia.
“What now, Nat?“, he mumbles.
“Look in the camera!“
“You know, if you say that, I will especially not doing it.“
“And this is my best friend Draco.“
“Draco Malfoy.“ She rolles her eyes playfully, when he still ignores her.
“Draco Lucius Malfoy... now stop being such a brat and come here.“
“I hate it, when you call me by my full name.“
“Anyway. This is Draco Malfoy, my best friend. We met in the middle of the school year and since then-“
“Everybody has to suffer because of our alliance.“
“We are friends, Draco! Stop being such a bloody-“
“Young Lady-“
“It was Draco!“ Her fans love their interactions. Some even do competitions about Draco‘s insults at random people.
“My dad teached Draco some things and now he won‘t let this bloody knife-“
“Natalia Romanova, no cruse words in this household.“
“I swear, my dad knows everytime when I cruse. It‘s spooky.“ Draco snorts, while he still twirls the knife in his hand.
“Your father knows everything you do.“
“That‘s true.“
She gets the permission, still to post on social media while being at school. As long she doesn’t exposes the wizarding world.
“I wanted to introduce you to another friend of mine! This is Viktor-“
“Stanislav! Did you hear? I‘m friends with the princess, take that you fucking asshole!“
“We are not friends anymore, Vic! Stanislav, you are now my new best friend!“
“Hey! What about me??“
Some people are concerned, that she only has male friends, since they only met the three.
“Please. Girls can be soo dramatic, it‘s so fucking annoying. But I have some female friends. Like Daphne. But she goes to another school.... Draco? Do you think we could kidnap Daphne, so she goes with us to school?“ Draco is so done with his life. Why did he became friends with her? She only makes problems...
So yeah, Natalia is a cheerful person, but if you try to hurt her friends or family, she raises hell. Draco tries to control the chaos she creates, but is not always successful.
Uhm, fast forward I think? To fourth year, the Triwizard Tournament. Bc Draco and Natalia are one of Victor‘s closest friends, (and have powerful names) the go for a year to Hogwarts. They also meet the golden trio, who has no idea who they are, but Ron is searching for the princess. Hermione tries to stop him, but he already did the mess. Natalia begins raises an eyebrow and asks him what business he has with the princess.
“I need to speak with her.“
“And you are? Draco, is he a part of the pure blood families?“ Draco just shruggs and says: “I‘m not entirely sure, he has the looks of a Weasly and while they are a pure blood family, no one of the elite likes them.“ Harry begins to shout at Draco, Ron too, while Hermione wants to bang her head against the wall.
“I‘m sure, this is a misunderstanding. I‘m not from England, so I don‘t know the important families like Draco does. He simply said what your political position in the wizarding world is. I‘m sure you know the Malfoys, this is Draco Malfoy and he‘s my best friend. I appologies, if something we said came out wrong, but in Durmstrang you normally don‘t offend students with the political positions of their parents.“
Hermione becomes friends with the two, Harry and Ron are then pissed. Does she care? No.
So, they have their fun in Howgarts, they also befriend the Weasly twins and prank some people.
And then comes the fifth year. People loose their absolute shit, bc boy- They haven‘t seen Draco for 3 months and suddendly he‘s one of the hottest teenagers of the world. They start to ship the two, but Natalia doesn’t react to the fans about this.
For information, they are in the sixth year when they come together (somewhat)
But in the summer after the fifth year, some agency contacts Draco and asks him if he wants to do modeling. And he‘s like, why not. Then I have also a name in the muggle world and much influence.
He does a great job. He gains a fandbase, (he already has one) who are like: fucking finally-bitch, what took you so long???
He also starts social medias, mostly talks about his life. And the world meets his mother and they are like: ok wow, we understand, Draco. She‘s an angel, a badass angel. We know now, why he‘s such a perfect boy
So yeah, Draco starts modeling, his father tries to throw a hissy fit but can‘t really do anything about it.
I totally forgot about it, but Voldemort came back and James is like- fuck this shit and killed him. And destroyed all his Horcruxes. He went to all his former followers and was like: bitches, this was a half blood who wanted to destroy the wizarding world. Don‘t follow his mistakes or I‘ll kill you all.
They look at him with big eyes and he then tells, he wants his daughter save and how can she be save, when the parents of her friends follow a mass murderer?
And yeah, this is how the Winter Soldier destroyed Dumbledore’s plans and didn‘t even know it.
And yeah. Draco starts also acting (he‘s really good at it) and is a part time teacher in Durmstrang. Natalia is doing princess stuff, represents her house in the wizarding world and just lives her life.
They marry some years later (the biggest wedding of the century after Natalia‘s parents).

October 2010s Music Deep Dive!
Tumblr media
A mock up poster for the only possible music festival line-up I would be willing to risk my life attending. Tony Allen’s passing has caused the entire Octoberfest to be cancelled indefinitely, but all proceeds from ticks will be given back to the community.
Hope all of you special nobodies and overblown somebodies reading this right now are having a smashing start your first o November. All last month I had taken it upon myself to listen to as many albums and fragments of albums released sometime during the month of October spanning the entire 10’s decade, 2010 through 2019. This is all probably a result of drinking too much dead water, Quarantine brain, undiagnosed Autism, magical thinking and the death of boredom. I have created a Spotify playlist sporting 25 hours and 4 minutes worth of music with an arbitrary amount of albums getting multiple songs, but largely one song/album. This project did create a sense of madness because of the volume of music that gets cranked out. How can we expect anyone to properly criticize music when it is nearly impossible to keep up with it all? I largely culled these albums from Allmusic’s Editorial Choice section, but I did have to use Rateyourmusic to fill out the hip-hop and R&B gaps. In gathering up all of this music I am attempting to see if spooky music was relegated to the October season and any other possible trends. Even though October has been laid to rest her swelling calendar breast still contains a treasure trove of music worth discussing. Grab your broom, sharpen your heels and get the cobwebs out of your ears because we’re going on a Deep Dive!
//////
The 2010s Old Souls and Musical Auteurs
I consider any musician or band that endures more than a decade worthy of this veteran label. Music biz lifers seem found solace in the October release schedule. A trend that has carried onto the new decade with October 2020 offering revitalized releases by Elvis Costello and Bruce Springsteen reunited with the E Street Band. All three main members of Sonic Youth, Moore, Gordon and Renaldo are still harnessing that spooky Bad Moon Rising energy and carrying it over into their solo releases.
KIM GORDON’s NO RECORD HOME
Tumblr media
The first truly proper solo album by Kim Gordon following up her pretty good noise rock releases under the Body/Head moniker with Bill Nace. No Record Home towers over Thurston Moore and Lee Renaldo’s mostly okay solo releases because of how truly experimental and refreshingly modern sounding No Record Home is. This album sounds like it could easily have come out from a young Pacific Northwest Trip-Angle (RIP) label upstart. Instead, Gordon is defiantly aging gracefully and remains an all around important feminist voice in experimental rock music. No Record Home did not pop up on a lot of “Best of the Year” lists in 2019, nor did Gordon embark on any kind of touring for the release. I am hoping that more people will eventually discover this great album and realize that Gordon was truly the best, most truly experimental aspect of Sonic Youth. Her vocals on this album are the best she’s ever sounded because she built these songs and sounds with the intergral collaborator, producer Justin Raisen. A glimpse at Raisen’s Wikipedia page is a who’s who of great artists of the past decade: Yves Tumor, Charli XCX, and Sky Ferreira. The collaboration occurred at an AirBnB shared between Gordon and Raisen and birthed the first single of the project “Air BnB.” A song that completely sets the tone of the album and features one of those amazing music videos in the same line us Young Thug’s “Wyclef Jean. “
Björk - Biophilia
Tumblr media
Can you name the last album the rolled out with its own app? Nine years have come and gone and I certainly can’t think of another album with such wholesome ambitions. Björk was getting passionate about ecological concerns in her native Icelandic home with Sigur Ros and using her sphere of influence to try to good. 2014 the app has found a permanent home in the MOMA, but outside of this curio status the album itself is still a worthwhile addition to the Björk canon. Biophilia finds Björk in musical scientist mode using sounds captured from a Tesla coil and making a whole musical universe onto herself. The rest of the 2010s found Björk going for bigger and more ambitious projects that continue to frustrate those who wish she would go back to her poppier roots. She remains one of those most consistent solo artists around and someone no one will be able to predict what she does next. The only thing is certain is that it will be visionary and will probably include a wildly ambitious rollout and a new piece of physical art like Biophilia’s $800 tuning forks.
NENEH CHERRY - BROKEN POLITICS
Tumblr media
Featuring production duties for the second time from Four Tet (who also pops up in the October playlist with his 2013 album Beautiful Rewind). Broken Politics in Cherry’s words, “is about feeling broken, disappointed, and sad, but having perseverance. It’s a fight against the extinction of free thought and spirit.” The music video for single “Natural Skin Deep” was filmed in Beirut, a backdrop made even more painful given 2020’s Explosion. Cherry is an artist with deep spiritual and blood connections with artists central to jazz’s history. Broken Politics also features songs built around Ornette Coleman samples. This is all to say that Neneh Cherry is always going to be someone tapping into a creative cosmic vein that spans generations, and with that comes a hard wisdom. Two years later we’re still dealing with the same god damn guts and guns of history.

TRILOGY OF BLACKSTARS
Tumblr media
Three last albums released by three titans of 20th century songwriting. Two of them follow the trajectory of an older artist getting rejuvenated by a younger backing band. Lulu is beyond a meme at this point and is considered one of the most confounding flops since Metallic Music. Like Metallic Music, Lulu will get a reappraisal and find its audience. Mr. Blackstar himself Bowie considered  Lulu one of his favorite releases. “Junior Dad” alone makes this album a worthy addition in Lou Reed’s discography. Scott Walker invited some similarly hairy and intense younger rock studs into his private castle and pulls off a far more natural combination. Soused fits like a velvet glove on a elegant corpse hand swirling thick slabs of guitar and demonic percussion. Scott Walker effortlessly orchestrates between elegance and moribundity whereas Lulu wallows and thrashes against  the ugly riffage.
No riffs or oozing wall of sound are  anywhere to be found on the sparse and pointedly elegiac You Want it Darker. Leonard Cohen never went full on sleazy I’m Your Man ever again but he didn’t become adult contemporary either. You Want It Darker finds Leonard and his son Adam Cohen. When Leonard passed away he was the only one to get a full David Bowie like museum tribute, Lou Reed only got a corner of a library. Cohen is far and away the most accessible mystical Jewish Buddhist monk with a penchant for fedoras and having a masked man with a leather belt beat him in the recording booth [citation needed]. You Want It Darker is the only one of these mortality laden kiss offs to win a Grammy. I do wonder if Cohen would have ever allowed a more adventurous production to touch his staid and timeless old fashioned sound. Tom Scharpling divides Leonard Cohen into his Pre-Fedora and Post-Fedora days. If you are being literal about that demarcation that still gives you a pretty vast body of music I just want sad bloated blurry black and white Leonard Cohen with a banana or the smiling cad on Songs of Love and Hate. Even the floppy fedora era has worthwhile albums and he sounds like if Serge Gainsbourgh was a muppet Gargoyle, he’s reliable. I will always beat myself for not buying that official Leonard Cohen raincoat at the Jewish Museum Leonard Cohen exhibit, but I hope someone has and they are finding comfort with Cohen’s music. A lot of his latter day period is comforting in a sardonic sexy mind bending nursing home sort of way.
I am glad that these men were ultimately spared from having to deal with Covid times and even someone as tasteless as Brian Wilson’s Ghost can acknowledge that it’s more important than ever to keep your elderly loved ones locked away in a well ventilated pod.

(INSERT ARTIST HERE) SEASON
Tumblr media
For a few sticky sweet select few artists the month of October proved to be a suitable release launch pad for more than one album. The Mountain Goats and clipping. have just joined the October two-timer club this year. The reigning queen of October releases is Taylor Swift and Adrianne Lenker. In chronological order swift released Speak Now, Red and 1989 probably Swift’s biggest run in terms of critical and commercial success. None of these albums have a particularly big place in my heart, in fact speaking on behalf of Brian Wilson’s Ghost Ltd. I’m not the biggest fan of America’s Sweetheart, Sweet Tea Poet Laureate.  All three of these albums all came out in the latter part of October and based on the Target brand synergy roll-out felt as inevitable as pumpkin spice. Haunted. Sad Beautiful Tragic. Out of the Woods. These are either song titles taken from these three albums are the names of the under utilized Romantic Halloween Horror Comedy genre. Lady Gaga might have been spooking it up on American Horror Story, but Swift gives a far more chilling performance in Tom Hooper’s midnight madness of Cats and I could envision Swift excelling really well as a horror film actor. Especially in a role like Scarlett Johansson’s Under the Skin.
You cannot get more polar opposite from Swift than Adrianne Lenker. Who released her first solo album abysskiss   and the second Big Thief album of 2019 Two Hands. Lenker will have also gone on to make her third October release this year with her second solo album songs & instrumentals. Striking that such a ghostly autumnal band would have only released one album in October, but autumnal feeling albums are not beholden to release calendars. The song “Not” from the Big Thief album Two Hands is a watershed breakthrough moment for the band and put Lenker and her band on the map. In 2019 Big Thief became a band that could get booked onto a Goodmorning American performance slot and more or less made Big Thief one of the rare 2010s indie bands to become more or less a household name.
Other notable artists to have released more than one album on October 2010s:

Less notable artists to have multiple October releases: James Blunt Korn
Calvin Harris
Kings of Leon
Pentatonix

FORMER HARBINGERS OF HYPE
Tumblr media
These are October releases from artists that once felt like whenever they put out an album a wider array of outlets and publications seemed to care more and would spill more digital ink over them. The big three artists that had the biggest drop off in attention and acclaim that stick out to me the most are Titus Andronicus,  Justice and Why? All three artists debuted with strong starts back in the aughts, but according to critical reception more or less crashed and burned. Titus Andronicus’ Local Business was one of the last times Titus Andronicus would get positive marks from Pitchfork. Local Business a fun and shaggy follow-up to one of the most self-serious concept albums of the 2010s.
Justice’s Audio, Video, Disco similarly is a follow up to a highly acclaimed album that set the bar high enough to doom Justice into never living up to the hype. Justice’s 2007 s/t heralded them as the next Daft Punk, but unlike those soulful and thoughtful robots Justice mainly wanted to make big ridiculous unfashionable synth prog rock. Audio, Video, Disco is simply cheesy fun and even though we live in a world better off without parties and gatherings this album helps you feel like you are in high-def IMAX monster mash on the moon.
The leaves us with Why?’s Mump’s Etc. an album that already had the job of following up an already divisive follow up record Eskimo Snow. Why’s Alopecia is a really important 2008 indie blog rap album that helped thrust the online indie blogs into the hip-hop genre hybrid experimentalism. Why? would never make another universally beloved album again and with Mump’s Etc. ended up permanently in Pitchfork’s hate pit. In the original release review the Pitchfork writer essentially deems this album an act of “career suicide.” The whole review is essentially an assignation of Why?’s figurehead Yoni Wolf and taking him to task for all of his awkward lyrical blunders and the fact he is narcissistic enough to be a musician writing about his career in a meta fashion. Yet when I listen to Mump’s Etc. I am more or less enjoying Yoni Wolf’s personality and find the whole thing to be pretty charming. A perfectly serviceable 3.5/5 release that a media outlet like Pitchfork turns into a flexing opportunity to show how that they have the power to make or break a career.
A.C. Newman, an artist who appears on this playlist with his terrific 2012 Shut Down The Streets took to Twitter to scoff at the idea that a good Pitchfork review has done anything for his career. Shut Down The Streets currently remains the last solo album Newman has released under his name choosing to focus on his main gig with the New Pornographers. The Internet based hype machine is even more ADHD addled and twitchier by the day. The joy of doing this deep dive allowed me to revisit a lot of these artists and acts that I had fallen out of touch with. I had completely forgotten about King of Convenience’s Erlend Øye who released the album Legao in 2014. I rediscovered a good deal of bands like the Editors, The Dodos, Kisses, Black Milk, Crocodiles, Empire of the Sun, Juana Molina, Jagwar Ma, Here We Go Magic, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., YACHT, Peaking Lights, The Twilight Sad, Elf Power, Swet Shop Boys, Radio Dept, Allo’ Darlin, Foxes In Fiction, and HOMESHAKE are all bands not trying to change the world or challenge listeners with avant garde experimentation. Instead I feel like I maintaining relationships with old friends on the edge of obscurity.

A HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER
Tumblr media
A tradition stretching back as far as 2014 not October’s Idina Menzel’s Holiday Wishes, but Seth McFarland’s Holiday For Swing sweatily released on CD, digital, and vinyl on September 30, 2014.  2015 then brings us a Chris Tomlin and Ru Paul Christmas albums because every force of Neo-liberal good must be balanced with evangelical contemporary Christian music *shutters.* 2016 finds the Christmas in October era reaching a complete and utter nadir with R. Kelly’s final official LP 12 Nights of Christmas and A Pentatonix Christmas, but also buffered by Kacey Musgrave’s Christmas. 2017 only had time for Gwen Stefani’s You Make It Feel Like Christmas and no one else could evoke this feeling in October. On 2018, Michelle and Barack Obama’s combined one and only Christmas wish comes true, no not cancelling those drone strikes, but getting John Legend to join the October release jamboree; Eric Clapton claps open his guitar’s butt cheeks and hatefully squats out a half assed Xmas album defiantly opening the album with “White Christmas” [eyeroll emoji]; and finally 2018 found the Pentatonix announcing in October that Christmas Is Here. I apologize for all of that crude butt talk about the hateful racist Eric Clapton, but(t) I have festive gluteus Maximus on the mind, because in 2019 Norah Jones got her alternative country gal trio back together to remind us to shake our Christmas butts. Eat shit commercial shit, today’s Santa’s birthday! That’s the magic of the October release schedule!
The hallowed Christmas in October tradition continues on in 2020 with Dolly I-Beg-Thee-Pardon  releasing A Holly Dolly Christmas right on time on October 2, 2020 (Carrie Underwood missed the memo and unwraps her unwanted My Gift in September 2020). Meghan Trainor, Goo Goo Dolls, and Tori Kelly released Christmas albums. Can you believe Seth MacFarlane comes up twice in this article, because his sleazy J. Michigan Frog croon is processed and grated like Parmesan cheese snow flakes all over a rendition of White Christmas.  What a time to be alive!

WHERE DID THEY GO?
A Brief Case For Class Actress’s Rapproacher
Tumblr media
Among my October music travels I encountered one artist that really impressed me with her proper LP debut Rapprocher. The trio fronted by Elizabeth Vanessa Harper is essentially peddling the kind of competent moody 80’s inspired synth pop that belongs on a lost Donnie Darko sequel. Harper’s vocals are striking and expressive and they are melded with constantly propulsive bed of shiny synths and glossy barely-there gated percussion. Outside of an 2015  EP called Movies featuring exciting production contributions from Italo-disco icon Giorgio Moroder there has been nothing else from Class Actress. Highly recommend you check them out especially if you want to find the sweet spot between Chromatics and Kylie Minogue.

THE OCTOBER 2010s MASTERPIECES
Tumblr media
(Robyn - Honey, Big K.R.I.T. - 4eva is a Mighty Long Time  ,Miguel -  Kaleidoscope Dream, Crying - Beyond The Fleeting Gale , M83 Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming ,SRSQ - Unreality, Sufjan Stevens - age of adz, Joanna Newsom - divers, VV Brown Samson and Delilah, Kelela - tear me apart , Neon Indian - VEGA Intl., Fever Ray - Plunge , Antony and The Johnsons - Swanlights (goodbye album) , Caroline Polachek - Pang , Sky Ferreira - Night Time, My Time . Bat For Lashes  Haunted Man, James Ferraro - Far Side Virtual , Grouper -  Ruins , Kero Kero Bonito -Bonito Generation , DJ Rashad - Double Cup)
Maybe if I surround this VV Brown album with more well known artists she’ll finally get some more clicks? I should also mention that Joanna Newsom’s Divers is nowhere on my Spotify October Music playlist because Joanna Newsom thinks Spotify is bananas, and she hates bananas. I know I should also mention Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city and Tame Impala’s Lonerism. That’s the maddening thing about October music that just when you think you covered all your ground you find another hidden hump underneath the carpet.  I feel remiss without mentioning striking debut and instant hidden gem Tinashe’s Aquarius, which did you know has a new album art on Spotify. Death Grip’s No Love Deep Web. T_T I didn’t even get around to making a big verbal mosaic to Thom Yorke’s witchy Suspiria soundtrack.Corpus Christi! I forgot to highlight The Orb album in the collage with my other veteran artists!  As you can see this project nearly ruined me. I did not necessarily listen to all of these albums from front to back, but I did listen all of the songs on the playlist and chose them from the immense collection of October releases. I am pretty sure this is the kind of content for no one in particular but I really needed to get it out of my system. Let’s meet back up October 2030!!!!!

Lovely Good Omens fandom! Many of you have asked for/mentioned having a text version of the Yelp reviews, which if I were a better person I would have remembered to include in the first place. Better late than never? So here’s a version below and I also threw this up on AO3 so there are options. For the record, I’m not at all trained in transcribing visual media, so if anyone wants to add to/edit/do whatever to this post, especially to make it more accessible, you have carte blanche to do so 👍
Also I typed this up in a hurry so, as always, apologies for any typos.

So I slipped into this place because I spotted my ex across the street and would have rather chugged a cocktail of bleach, lighter fluid, and a condensed solution of all my middle school years then talk to that asshole. Owner was on me the second I walked through the door and I thought he was gonna be one of those ‘Either buy something or get out’ types. Nah. I spilled the story, said I really wasn’t looking to purchase anything, and he LIT UP like nobody’s business. He gave me tea and promised I’d never run into my ex again. Which is a super sketchy promise on its own and also should have been hilarious coming from a guy a century behind in style.
...Kinda believed him though.

Pretty sure this guy wants a library, not a bookshop. I mean, he’s nice and all when you first come in, but trying to actually buy a book? Good fucking luck. He’s too busy to see you right now (for the record he’s super bad at pretending to be busy). Or claims that this book has already been put on reserve (then why wasn’t it in the reserve pile...?). Or the price suddenly jumped an obscene amount. Or he just straight up hems and haws until you get fed up and leave. I watched him pull a novel straight out of a woman’s hands once when she claimed that price was no object and she wouldn’t be leaving the store until she’d purchased it. You’d think she was trying to kidnap one of the guy’s kids!
So yeah. Feel like popping in to browse, maybe take pictures for your research, all while making quiet conversation with someone who quite frankly knows his stuff? This is the place for you. Want to actually buy something? Go elsewhere. Pretty sure Fell doesn’t even own a cash register. At least I’ve never seen one.
He wants a library and I’d honestly tell him as much if he didn’t scare me just a little bit...

I stayed here for three days once. Found a bathroom off the romance section and a chair hidden away in the back. Way comfier than my mattress at home. Mostly played iPhone games and kept real quiet at night. Experiment ended when I popped out for breakfast and didn’t make it back before a random 10:00am closing. Don’t think the owner ever realized what was up.

I really love this place. I’ve been coming here since I moved to London, about twelve years ago, and it’s one of the most soothing bookstores I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Yeah, you hear talk of weird things going on at Fell’s, but really? We could all do with a bit more quirky in our lives. And Fell provides that in spades: Annual plants that never seem to wither, let alone die. The smell of incense mixing with cocoa. Strange books tucked horizontally into the shelves, feeling like they have a touch of magic to them. Nonsensical conversations taking place in dark corners (I’m talking candid chats about the apocalypse and whether angels could actually bless all the rains down in Africa. I swear Fell and his boyfriend are the religion Mythbusters or something.) I’m going to sound like a total nerd here for a moment, but it feels like some sort of liminal space. You know when you were a kid and you were just desperate to receive your Hogwarts letter? Or find your own wardrobe to Narnia? That’s what walking into Fell’s feels like. Like you’ve finally found that portal and can stay as long as you like, provided you don’t try to take anything back with you into the ‘real’ world. Hell, maybe that’s why he won’t let anyone buy his books.

I’m not gonna pretend I have anything to say about whether this is a good bookstore or not, but if you ever want knitting help you should definitely stop by. Mr. Fell knows an absurd amount about crafts for a guy who looks like my grandpa and he’s now replaced Youtube as my go-to for alleviating “Omg please fix this how the hell did I manage to reverse the pattern??” panic. For the record, I didn’t just wander up to a random bookseller one day and demand that he help me salvage the ruins of my first sweater. I’d taken a seat inside to wait out a storm, had my messy sleeve stuffed into my purse, and he’d offered the help. Bit of a bastard about things like gauge and color--not everyone wants to wear tartan, dude--but you get used to that. He means well. Said I should come back to show him the finished piece, which I did. Things just kind of spiraled from there. He’s an absolute treasure trove of knowledge once you get him talking and a muffin to boot. If he were twenty years younger and in any way straight I would have asked him out in a heartbeat. As it is I’m considering setting him up with Grandpa.

I’m not really a book person myself but I followed my wife in with our seventh-month old and was kinda embarrassed when he started making a fuss. Normally I’m full Badass Mom mode while in public--I’ve got a kid to feed, change, sooth, and you all can damn well deal with it--but this place was so quiet Liam seemed extra loud in comparison. I was about to take him back out when a man appeared out of nowhere. The owner I guess, based on how some of these other reviews describe him. Older gentleman with clothes out of some period piece. Anyway, he scoops Liam into his arms like he was born for it and started bouncing. Our fussy, temperamental, drama queen Liam settled in an instant and my wife got to browse to her heart’s content. I don’t know how he did it, but that man is an absolute angel. Full stars for that moment alone.

Run by this delightfully frumpy guy who sometimes hands out biscuits from a sewing tin like my gran used to. He asked me if I was looking for anything in particular and I told him my name was Jared, I was 19, but sadly I’d never learned how to read. I have NEVER seen a man more confused in my life. 10/10 would meme him again.

I’m setting the record straight here since there are a bunch of reviews claiming it’s just London folklore: there is a snake at A.Z. Fell’s. Must be an exotic pet he usually keeps upstairs because I’ve only ever seen it twice. Is it big? Yes. Scary? Fuck yes, but I’ve never seen it do anything more than give a warning hiss at this drunk who wandered in and started yelling. (Are snakes good guard dogs? This one is.) The other time he was just chilling on top of one of the shelves. Snoozing, I guess. I asked Mr. Fell if I could pet him and he said maybe after he woke up, but then I had to get to class and all.
Afraid of snakes? Steer clear. Otherwise I’d really recommend popping in and seeing if he’s around. Idk, maybe I’m just a snake fan but he looks super sweet and chill. Life is short. Boop the snake snoot.

I live down the street from A.Z. Fell’s and let me tell you, this place is spooky as fuck. All sorts of weird lights and noises coming from it. At all times of the day and night too. Either this bowtie wearing bookworm has one crazy sex life or the place is haunted. Jury’s out on which.

This shop smells. Not that old book smell either, oh no, but like something is molding. I took my little Johnny in here to try and get him interested in something other than those damned video games and I walk into what smells like a whole cloud of toxic mold! My boy has a weak constitution as it is and if he comes down with anything I will be pressing charges, you mark my words.

Has anyone read this guy’s opening hours? I included a photo above: “I open the shop on most days about 9:30AM perhaps 10:AM. While occasionally I have opened the shop as early as 8, I have been known not to open until 1.” Absolutely insane. This guy’s a madman and I love him. If anyone actually manages to get into this place please let me know because I need to shake Fell’s hand.

I'd been wanting to redo my Oggy OCs, along with introducing some new ones, so I simply decided to redo them all in a row, and then post them all at once, along with sharpening up their bios. ^_^
---
The Weevils are a family consisting of three sisters and their cousins, who are sisters to each other. The three moved from the big city to a tree in Oggy's backyard due to the tree in the city's park that they used to live in being torn down. Meanwhile, their cousins, much more urban than them, continue to live in the ventilation system of a ritzy hotel downtown. While much kinder than the cockroaches, these girls still have a way with being a thorn in the sides of anyone, even if they don't mean it.
Ginger is the middle child of the three siblings. What else can be said about her but...eh? She doesn't really have anything special going for her, something she is entirely aware of and HATES. She tries to do everything in her power to be noticeable, to find that one thing that'll "click" for her. Sure, she's good at a lot of things, but she wants to find that one thing that she's GREAT at. Unrelated to this, she's got the major hots for Marky, who she somehow sees as way more handsome and kind than he really is. Of course, no one else sees it, and Marky just thinks she's "nice", and that's about it. Baby is, well, the baby of the sisters. Still young enough to be able to pull of "cute" unironically, she loves everything pastel, sparkly, and pretty. Unicorns, stuffed animals, and rainbows, and all that good stuff. She's also drilled it in her mind, and the minds of everyone else, that she's going to be a ballerina when she grows up, so she's stuck in that phase, too. Thankfully, she's also a pure sweetie, and she's a little angel towards every single person who babysits her...except for Joey, she turns into a little hellion when it comes to him. Of course, he can't convince anyone else that she's like this. Scary is the eldest of the three sisters. Interested in all things creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky, Scary certainly looks the freaky part with her dark colors and brooding personality. Loner by nature, she prefers to be alone with her studies. However, when October hits, she becomes an entirely different weevil. Like, freakishly different. She becomes happy, energetic, and all around gleeful for her favorite month. And, ironically, THIS makes her even scarier to most people! Sporty is the younger of the two sisters of the Weevil Cousins. Aficionado of anything energetic, she spends most of her time at the gym in the city's hotel. If she's not there, she's buzzing around the city for a jog or downing a custom blend drink at the smoothie shop. She wears every scuff and bruise with pride, not realizing that she really should be calming down and taking care of herself better. She's a bit bugged by how lazy Oggy and the Cockroaches are whenever she visits, but she's on the same sync as Monica, so naturally, the two are great friends. Posh is the older of the two Weevil Cousins. The complete opposite of her younger sister, she's all about the high life that the position in her location lets her live. From shopping to makeovers to fine dining, she has cash to throw around. She thinks a bit lowly of the Cockroaches (despite them trying to charm her because she's rich and pretty), though she finds an odd charm with their older cousin. Unsurprisingly, she's also really good friends with Lady K, who may or may not be manipulating her a bit.
---
The Beetle Brothers are four ladybugs that live in the ventilation system of Jack's apartment complex. While they're happy living there, they often hitch a ride on Jack's monster truck whenever he visits Oggy. Despite the fact everyone else sees them as cute bugs, something they play up, their true personalities show whenever they're around the Cockroaches. They might be even more cunning and ruthless than they are! The symbols above them are their spots' pattern. John is the second-eldest of the brothers, yet also the unofficial leader of them. As the smartest of the group, he'll often come up with crafty schemes. However, he often really doesn't take this "leadership" seriously. He has the tendency to create fake schemes to screw around with others, especially if it leads to a laugh at the others' expense. He's the biggest rival with Joey when it comes to their rivalry with the Cockroaches. Paul is the second youngest of the quartet. Despite his small stature, he's the ladykiller of the group. He's the second-in-command of the group, and has a good sense of humor that leaves him in high spirits, giving him an extra layer of charm. Thanks to this, he's Marky's chief rival in the rivalry. George is the youngest of the four, despite being the tallest by a slight amount. He's quiet and philosophical, and often just follows the others. Despite his slimmer build, he has a surprising appetite on him, making him Dee Dee's chief rival, though he doesn't really like to consider himself a "rival" at all. Ringo is the eldest of the brothers, despite being the shortest of them. Since he doesn't have a Cockroach to consider him a rival, he often does his own thing, despite following the others to wherever they go. In reality, he's just happy to be there. As such, he give off the kindest aura of the four, and he's often left alone to his own doings.
---
Madeline is Jack's older sister and Oggy and Monica's oldest cousin, along with being the mother of Jack's nephew. She recently went through a messy divorce with her ex-husband. While she got custody of their son, her self esteem has recently plummeted. She tries to be a good mother, but, combined with her own issues and her son's recent antisocial phase, it has been a struggle, and she seems to be drinking in a way that's less "on occasion" lately. Despite this, she is still a lovely person, and loves her brother and cousins dearly. She even tolerates the Cockroaches. Key word tolerates, she won't hesitate to swat them when they pester her too much. Also, with the addition of Ramona in her life, maybe it'll turn around? Ramona is a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. An incident where she decided to "find herself" led her accidentally getting caught up in the pet trade, where she was rescued by Madeline. Living cushy in a terrarium in Madeline's house, she's far from a pest. Even liked by Oggy, she's not your average cockroach! Since she's slightly taller than the Cockroaches, they've decided that she should join them. Joey sees her as a means to cause chaos, Marky sees her as his next romantic endeavor, and Dee Dee sees her as someone that likes some of the same food as him. She likes Dee Dee the best, obviously. She has no interest in chaos, and would rather just play video games or write her stories. Arnold is a bodybuilder Hercules Beetle. He's tall, he's buff, he's strong, he's handsome...he has crippling anxiety that he hides behind all of this. In reality, he's nervous about most things, but tries to keep a cool persona around everyone. He lives in Bob's vents, who he conveniently uses to hide a lot of his worries. I mean, if people aren't going to tussle with Bob, he'll obviously be safe there. The only person to know of his true self is Sporty, who he's currently dating.

10 Movies You Should Watch This Halloween 2018
It’s the first day of October, so the Halloween season is in full swing.  Last year I did a list of 10 movies to watch for the Halloween season (http://crdenhart.tumblr.com/post/165998357615/10-movies-you-should-watch-this-halloween-2017), so I am continuing the tradition this Halloween with 10 more films to check out this year (in release date chronological order):
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938)
Tumblr media
This classic Disney film celebrated its 80th anniversary earlier this year.  Though not technically a Halloween-themed movie, the film has many spooky scenes and settings that have become associated with the Halloween season.  The scene in which Snow White runs into the dark forest is very scary and the sequence where the evil Queen transforms into the Old Hag is one of the most frightening moments in movie history.
Dementia 13 (1963)
Tumblr media
Legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather movies, Apocalypse Now, The Outsiders) made his directorial debut with this horror film.  The film has some really intense scary moments, such as when the the main female character finds a dead body while swimming underwater in a pond, only to emerge to find an ax murderer trying to kill her. I actually have never seen the movie until recently but highly recommend it to horror fans.
Rosemary’s Baby (1968)
Tumblr media
One of the most influential supernatural horror films of all time!  Watch any modern thriller or horror movie (especially those produced by A24) and you will see its influence.  What makes the film evermore the scarier is that the film’s director Roman Polanski’s pregnant wife Sharon Tate was murder by Charles Manson’s cult the following year after the film’s release.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Tumblr media
THE Zombie movie.  The horror classic by George Romero celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.  I find the slow-moving dead who have come back to life more frightening than the more modern rabid-disease zombies.  This is one of the essential scary movies that every moviegoer should see.
The Exorcist (1973)
Tumblr media
The absolute best of the religious-themed horror films celebrates its 45th anniversary.  I have gotten heavily involved in church this past year, so this one is top on my list to watch this Halloween.  When I first saw the film in Catholic School growing up, it actually got me more interested in the fringe aspects of religion, such as Exorcisms.  Incredible acting and cinematography and haunting music.  “Tubular Bells” is still one of the most frightening pieces of music.
Halloween (1978)
Tumblr media
Obviously it can’t be Halloween without Halloween, and this year is especially true with it being the 40th anniversary and a new sequel with the same title and returning cast and crew comes out this October (fingers crossed it will be great). I recently rewatched the original in anticipation for the 2018 sequel, and realized how realistic the movie is compared to all other scary movies.  The main female characters act just like small-town teenage girls.  It’s like even though technology has evolved, people still remain the same. The cinematography, the music, the pacing, and suspense are all top-notch despite being a low-budget 1970s film.
Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School (1988)
Tumblr media
This animated feature is one of my favorite Scooby-Doo movies!  Shaggy and Scooby (and sadly Scrappy) get jobs as gym teachers at what they at first believe is a “girls” school but it is actually a “ghouls” school with daughters of famous monsters such as Dracula, The Mummy, and The Frankenstein Monster.  It’s a fun animated film for the entire family and it’s nice to see a plot involving actual monsters and not just Scooby and friends being chased after my some old man in a costume who says, “I would’ve gotten away with it too if it wasn’t for you meddling kids and that stupid dog!”
Beetlejuice (1988)
Tumblr media
Tim Burton had some other films previously (PeeWee’s Big Adventure, Vincent), but Beetlejuice is the film that really launched his career and made him known as the master of quirky gothic horror. The film celebrates it’s 30th anniversary this Halloween.  The makeup (Michael Keaton is unrecognizable as the title character), art design and cinematography are incredible. Danny Elfman’s score has become a very iconic soundtrack; can’t go to a haunted house without hearing it.
Goosebumps: “The Haunted Mask” (1995)
Tumblr media
The new Goosebumps movie comes out this Halloween season, so it would be nice to look back at the first episode (and one of the best) of the 1990s TV series.  The episode is surprisingly well made for a spooky ‘90s kids TV show.  There is some excellent cinematography and makeup, and the lead child actress Kathryn Long puts on an incredible performance as both the frightened Carly and the demented Haunted Mask. The scenes where Carly Beth can’t take off her mask and she is chased after by the other haunted masks at the store are still frightening even as an adult.  There was a sequel episode also worth checking out.
Donnie Darko (2001)
Tumblr media
The film is set during October 1988, so the movie would take place exactly 30 years ago this month.  Donnie Darko is one of my all-time favorite movies!  It has incredible acting by its star cast including a young Jake Gyllenhaal in the title role.  The scenes with the giant bunny rabbit Frank are very scary too.  What amazes me most about the film is how realistic the 1980s setting is despite being filmed in the 2000s!  The film looks like it actually was shot in the 1980s with the buildings, cars, clothes, music, TV ads, and technology all being of 1980s style but does not go overboard with nostalgia like films and shows such as Stranger Things, IT, and Anchorman 2.  A must see!
Happy Halloween everyone!

2018 fic year in review
I was tagged by @greenapricot 🙏 I am truly blessed
Total number of completed stories: 20
Total word count: 115,562
Fandoms written in: Endeavour, Lewis, Inspector Morse
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? Considering that I hadn’t really planned on writing fic at all, YES. I dabbled in fandom and fic a few years ago with Dragon Age, but I hadn’t really been a fic writer in more than a decade (Harry Potter on LJ). That isn’t to say I didn’t write in the mid-years but role-playing and original characters were my focus for a long time. My first fandom fic this year wasn’t even posted until March so... this is actually only 9 months in review.
What’s your own favorite story of the year? Delicious Burdens overall is probably my favorite endeavour (ha!). This was my first long term multi-part planned fic. It’s an AU (which is 100% my brand), the characters have taken on lives of their own in my head, I always want to write them and I still have more plans for them, but I learned a lot and realized really cool things in my storytelling along the way. A Song of Myself was especially satisfying to finish and even more satisfying to read over again and see story parallels in the beginning of the tale and the end, and even mirrored dynamics in the raunchy bits. It’s neat to look at it both as the writer and a reader. I would never call my writing refined, and I don’t think I want it to be, but I’m improving and I like learning about my own writing through this journey.
Did you take any writing risks this year? Participating in challenges was probably my big risk. I had never done a challenge before, even in the old days. I think some of my more dynamic stories this year came from the challenge prompts and I haven’t had any real issue with the time constraints!
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? Mostly to keep writing. I also have a simple casefic I started that I would like to follow through on, some niche steamy stuff I’d like to finish, and above all keep working on Delicious Burdens.
Best story of the year? Telling the Bees . It’s really good okay. I have gotten LOVELY feedback on it but importantly people tell me they got exactly the feeling from it that I wanted. I mean, it’s the ideal to tell the story you want to tell and know that other people can feel exactly what you felt when you wrote it. It came out exactly as I wanted it to and I re-read it myself all the time.
Most popular story of the year? The most kudos goes to Cake by the Ocean but there was also a lot of love and buzz and excitement for Dreaming Spires Radio.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I’m not sure!! I’m going through things and I think everyone has been super great and receptive. Honestly Morse and Max need more attention forever but this little porn pieces doesn’t have as many kudos as some of the others. Maybe its the PWP. Maybe it’s the mild belly worship. Who knows - Guilty Pleasures. (Hey everyone, appreciate the thick boys more. Thanks.)
Most fun story to write: Let’s go with Dreaming Spire Radio. Not only was it fun to do Nightvale-esque writing, I got to  dig into my spooky roots and also put in really fun things for my friends.
Most unintentionally telling story: I mean what’s to tell? I do have a WIP that definitely mouthpieces some of my frustration with certain fic tropes but that’s not technically done haha
Biggest disappointment: When I first decided that Max/Morse was OTP for me, I decided I wanted to write a multi-chapter fic about how that romance came to be within the frame of reference for the show. I actually wrote about 6 chapters of it before I decided it was too much like other things and I could do better. It’s since been scrapped, broken up, and used in pieces elsewhere but it coulda been neat I guess. I don’t feel the need to tell that story anymore so its one of the few things I fully bailed on.
Biggest surprise: Picks Will Do. I literally just posted this the other day and I wasn’t sure it was very good by the time I’d finished. Everyone seems to really love it and it caught me by surprise! The parts I doubted most are the most popular bits as well. I do want to say for the record that the fact anyone reads anything I write is also a surprise. A lovely wonderful surprise.
