WIP Wednesday

A snippet from the Halloween-themed Tarlos fic I'm almost ready to fully post! (It's basically a High school AU, but not much Highschooling is involved).

Carlos sits in his car, still gripping the steering wheel, even after having been here for a few minutes already. He can see TK’s place a couple of houses down. Anxiety hammers at his chest, cracking it open, letting his bleeding heart face the cold.

He presses his lips together and shakes his head at the rhythm of a song he’s not sure he has ever heard, thinking back to his courageous—or stupid—offer to help TK with his Spanish after the less-than-stellar result on his last test.

He can still see the way TK’s brow dipped in disappointment, the way he bit his lip, looking at the floor as if crushed by the heavy world around him. Carlos felt the urge to help him, to ease the weight off his shoulders—to make him feel better.

He groans and thumps his head on the steering wheel three times.

What an idiot.

He welcomed disaster into his life and even thanked it in advance for the chaos it would bring.

He slaps his cheek—his cold fingers aching from the impact—and clears his mind of cowardice.

He steps out of his car and inches closer to TK’s house; each step sends a chilling shiver down his spine, warning him.

He stops in front of the door, rehearsing his greeting in his head, and finally rings the bell.
