I feel like they don't quite have Keith figured out. Keith went full scorched earth to find Shiro. He shouldn't be the one (with both the Allura case and with Pidge earlier on) to be trying to hold people back. Of all of them lmao. Esp bc they don't treat him narratively like he's being a hypocrite, and that's never emphasized narratively. Imo they could either get him on hypocrisy textually or not have him being that guy! Because he's just, NOT! It's over and over again that we see him be "fuck it we ball I need to grab my emotional support Shiro" and so having him be against that for other people just. Doesn't make sense unless they want him to address that hypocrisy. Which. They don't seem to yet.

I think though they have a lot of ideas with Keith and Shiro, which I totally get bc they're awesome characters, I could use a little more oomph being given to Hunk and Lance. Pidge I think they have down SOLID, besides botching the "She's a girl" reveal, but Hunk and Lance both feel a little fuzzily defined to me.

I totally get that this is a result of having a big ensemble cast, but a big ensemble cast doesn't mean that your characters can't be super distinct and focused! Obviously Avatar the Last Airbender is an easy example pull for this, but another obvious one for me is Star Wars the Clone Wars. In having a ton of characters, it can be easy to lose sight of making them distinct in service of a plot, and I feel like that happens a lot to Lance and Hunk. I think either having Pidge/Hunk/Lance/Allura/Coran fade into the background and refocusing on the two most robust charcters OR bringing those 5 more into the foreground and giving them really robust motivations and arcs would work!

A lot of the humor falls flat for me. I'm not the target audience for it obviously, but, idk, it just doesn't do it for me.

I feel like the pacing is a little rough, as is the overall direction. Multi-episode arcs are cool, but I think for being the first season the show would've benefitted a lot from episodic adventures and splitting off the characters into small groups like they did to find the lions more! It's season 1! And then save the multi-episode arc for the season finale and have that be the big shift in tone where the Zarkon threat Gets Real. It brings the stakes up!

Are we really going to have to watch the same sequence every time they form Voltron?

All in all I think there's some things I'd do very differently, some things I really like. This was a promising start. I love cheesy space shows. I think this show would really have benefitted from giving us a little more to work with from a character standpoint. The fight scenes are awesome, don't get me wrong, but because we don't spend as much individual time with each paladin they can feel a little flattened. Again, I think keeping the storylines in season one to be pretty contained within an episode would've been a better move than having multiple multi-episode, plot heavy ones.

Additionally I think... a lot of exposition is given and it would be AWESOME to have less time spent on that and more on just immersion! We don't NEED to know everything about every world or new piece of tech! This show tells us a lot, I'd like for it to show us a whole lot more. You can do more! They could like, explain many many details about the Balmera and how it works OR they could have the paladins come to that realization themselves through interacting with it. One of those is much more memorable!

But all of that said, I'm still excited to see where they go with it! I might start season 2 later tonight, I need a little break from screens (almost 2 hours of show is a lot for me) and I am definitely curious about where they'll all end up on the other end of the wormhole.

anyways, i've been thinking about the hostage exchange between zarkon and the paladins--lotor for pidge's dad. when they're discussing it before it happens, i feel that pidge and lotor's kid would butt heads very severely. it's no question that they would be there with him. he's declared an enemy of the state and, by association, they are as well, regardless of whether zarkon actually knows about them or not. i think the paladins would discuss keeping them around for information's sake (and lotor would actually agree with this; he wouldn't want zarkon to get his hands on them for any reason), but they would be so intensely against it.

like "you do not get to take your father back at the cost of separating me from mine, that isn't fair" kind of thing. "you do not get to talk about us as if we are just bargaining chips. we are living and deserve as much respect as you do. you do not get to judge us based on the actions of others" also. yeah. just very raw, visceral emotions. and furthermore they KNOWWWW that zarkon isn't just going to hand over her dad, like???? it's so obvious to them but of course they aren't listened to.

and they're just completely inconsolable about it, about that whole situation!!! like!!!! pidge should know what this desperation feels like, allura should know what this desperation feels like, right? but instead they are realizing how few favors having galra blood does for them and now they kind of get why lotor clutches onto his altean heritage.

(pidge DOES get the desperation, but that's the problem--both of these poor children are failing to think clearly because of that desperation, which is rooted in the same place, and it is leading to them spitting nasty insults towards one another, digging into places that should not be dug into. The skies over Earth darkened as a sinister presence descended from the heavens. It was Mr. Electric, the menacing villain from Planet Drool, sent to confront Max and the other students. With crackling bolts of electricity surrounding him, he advanced menacingly.

Max knew they needed all the help they could get. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Mystical Locket, an object of unknown origin he had discovered on his previous adventure in Planet Drool, it belonged to Atomina. Ms. Allura Enigma, his favorite teacher who had also been to Planet Drool in his dreams, recognized the locket immediately.

"Ms. Enigma," Max said urgently, "this locket has the power to change size in Planet Drool. Maybe it can help us here too. I think it belongs to you."

Ms. Enigma took the locket, her eyes filled with wonder and determination. She clutched it tightly, recalling her own dreams of Planet Drool as Atomina. "Thank you, Max. I'll do my best."

As the battle raged on, the giant robot Mr. Electric, powered by the villain's malevolence, loomed over the students. It unleashed devastating electrical attacks that threatened to harm everyone.

Ms. Enigma stepped forward, summoning her newfound size-shifting abilities. She created a colossal force field to protect her students from the menacing onslaught. The electric bolts crackled against her midnight blue energy barrier, but she held it firm.

"Everyone, stay behind me!" she shouted, her voice resolute as she shielded her students.

Max watched Ms. Enigma in awe, amazed by her newfound powers and her determination to protect them.

However, just as she was about to lower the force field, Mr. Electric, cunning as ever, redirected his electrical assault, focusing it on Ms. Enigma's barrier until it reached its limit, shattering it. With a sinister grin, he released an overwhelming surge of electricity.

The force of the shock fried Ms. Enigma's outfit, leaving her vulnerable. In an instant, she shrank down to a mere three inches tall, standing defenseless in front of the menacing villain. Her heart pounded, and terror washed over her as she realized the dire situation.

"Help!" she cried out, her voice trembling with fear.

In that perilous moment, Mr. Electricidad, Max's teacher and Allura’s friend, sprang into action. Without hesitation, he scooped up the tiny, trembling Allura, holding her carefully in his palm.

Ms. Enigma's body trembled tremendously as she clung to Mr. Electricidad's thumb. Her fear was palpable, and her eyes were wide with panic. The once-confident teacher was now reduced to a mere fraction of her size, feeling utterly helpless.

Mr. Electricidad, filled with concern, carefully cradled her to his chest, creating a secure haven for her against the chaos outside. He could feel her trembling form pressed against him, and he understood the depth of her fear.

"It's going to be alright, Allura," he reassured her, his voice soothing and gentle. He cradled her close, his heartbeat a comforting rhythm against her miniature form. "You're safe now. I won't let anything happen to you."

Ms. Enigma, though still shaking, found solace in the warmth of his chest. She reached out, her tiny hand grasping one of his fingers, seeking reassurance in his touch. Mr. Electricidad allowed her to hold onto his finger, understanding that this simple gesture provided her with a sense of security amidst the chaos. “Th….thanks George.”

As they remained huddled together in the safety of the classroom, the battle outside continued, but within the confines of their bond, Ms. Enigma's trembling gradually subsided as they watched Marissa destroy him with her ice powers.

So I had fun with this one! But getting precise values was not an easy task (owing to genetic factors, diet, exercise regime, and individual differences on such a broad scale), so consider my numbers a rough estimate at best.

Allura is (according to my height chart) approximately 5'7" / 170cm, and of a slim but reasonably athletic build, the latter of which is presumably owed to her having been been trained in altean martial arts since childhood. In terms of age, I previously put her at around 21% of the way through her natural life span, which in human terms would make her ~17 years old. Now, using this WHO growth chart we can give ourselves a rough estimate of her weight on the basis of her height if she were human: 170cm at 17 years old places her at just about the 85th percentile, which if directly translated to weight, would means she weighs approximately 66kg / 10st 6lb.

But Allura is, of course, not human.

The above image is from s01ep10, wherein Allura showcases her metamorphic abilities: in this scene she is, by my estimate, approximately 7 inches taller than Shiro, who himself (as per my height chart) is 6′2″,,,, meaning that in this moment Allura stands at a whopping 6′9″. Why is this important, you ask? Because, my darlings, even after redistributing her mass into a larger and therefore less-dense state, Allura is still able to yeet Shiro by the collar of his armour a good 20ft across the landing bay later this same episode, meaning she’s strong as hell.

Now the really fun thing about weight, is that it changes depending upon the gravitational field strength exerted upon it, which is supremely unhelpful when the narrative is set in outer space, and said gravitational field strength can vary wildly depending where in the universe we are... so what we really need to begin with is Shiro’s mass, but let’s start with his weight.

If you want specifics, Shiro is extremely physically fit, and we’re talking damn-near the pinnacle of health here. He’s a fully trained astronaut for one (the human body needs to be of a certain level of health to withstand the duress of space travel), and for another his time as an Imperial gladiator was one of intensive physical training (after which he’s ripped, so galra prison slop must be high in nutrients so as to keep their gladiator fights entertaining). For the numbers, I looked into wrestlers - the most comparable sport, and therefore musculature, with the most widely available figures - and compiled a list of all 56 of the same height as Shiro, finding their weights to range between 169-332lbs. The mean average landed at ~248lbs / 17st 10lbs, which I think is a fair enough assumption for Shiro’s build - particularly when you consider he has a metal arm - as his physique matches up pretty comparably against the wrestlers Gunner (6′2″ / 247lbs) and Big Vito (6′2″ / 249lbs).

Jumping from weight to gravity, in the very first post ever to grace this blog I mentioned both that Daibazaal was larger than Altea, and that a single Imperial quintent (ie. one planetary rotation) equated to approximately 1.4 Altean quintents. These facts are important because the strength of a planet’s gravity is dictated by its size and mass, but in addition to this, how quickly a planet spins serves to reduce the gravitational pull experienced by an object placed on the surface of that planet (centrifugal force). Altea spins slightly faster than Daibazaal, so its centrifugal force is slightly greater, meaning that its gravity is a little weaker. In addition, Altea is smaller than Daibazaal, meaning that its mass is less, and so - again - its gravity is weaker. Earth, on the other hand, is closer to Altea in terms of size (lower gravitational field strength), but rotates on its axis only fractionally slower than Daibazaal once did (higher gravitational field strength), ergo our gravity lands firmly somewhere between the two (at 9.80665m/s²). We know the difference in gravitational field strength can’t be too dramatic either way, because the paladins do not float off into the aether when on the Castle of Lions, nor do they end up crushed under their own weight when on Imperial vessels; this matters because we can safely assume that the artificial gravity on all ships would have been configured to match their respective homeworlds, and so the gravity in which Allura threw Shiro was greater than that which she’s used to.

So to clarify: Altea had a lower gravitational field strength than Earth, and Earth lower than Daibazaal, but none of these values can differ too drastically because the paladins do not notably react to these differing gravitational environments. For simplicity’s sake, I’m going to declare that Altea’s gravitational field strength stood at 9m/s², while Daibazaal’s was closer to 11 m/s².

Now while on Earth, mass and weight mean functionally the same thing to us, so if Shiro weighs 248lbs, then this is also his mass. This, however, is no longer true when we change our planetary location, because the gravitational field strength is different (ie. when Allura yeets Shiro across a galra landing bay, she is contending with galra gravity). Using this handy dandy calculator for all my mathematical needs, I discovered that in the aforementioned s01ep10, Shiro’s weight in galra gravity is increased to 278lbs, or 19st 12lbs! Meaning that Allura, even in a form of reduced strength, tossed almost 20st like it was nothing!! For comparison, and also the joy of the mental image, that’s an over indulgent panda.

Taking all this into consideration, I’d say that alteans as a species have a strength comparable to that of silverback gorillas, who themselves have a muscle mass density four times higher than that of a heavily muscled human, and as such have equally densely calcified bones so as to withstand their own strength: all in all, healthy adult silverbacks (weighing between 300-400lbs) are thought to be capable of lifting as much as ten times their own body weight, meaning the strongest among them can possibly dead-lift up to 1814kg / 4000lbs... As I said originally, Allura is physically fit, but she’s hardly an altean bodybuilder, and still a teenager besides. For her to have so easily thrown Shiro so far, however, I’d have to say that he (in galra gravity) weighs perhaps an eighth of what she’s capable of lifting when in her “galra” form (a whopping 2224lbs total!!) and so she herself weighs a tenth of that: 222lbs, or 15st 12lbs.

So with Allura’s weight in galra gravity, and galra gravity itself, we can once again use the calculator linked above to learn that her mass is 198lbs; this does not change irrespective of how she uses her altean abilities. Her mass is absolute. But to  f i n a l l y  answer your question: in altean gravity - and, importantly, when Keith held her in his arms without breaking a sweat - Allura weighed approximately 182lbs, or 13st on the dot.

The best guess I can give you in regard to Lotor, would be found by taking Allura’s mass (198lbs) and multiplying it by the percentage increase (+24%) between her height (5′7″) and Lotor’s (6′11″), giving us a mass of ~246lbs... almost identical to Shiro, though with much more of a basketball player’s physique (Giannis Antetokounmpo is a reasonably good comparison). Like I said, this is a rough estimate at best because just scaling Allura’s mass up doesn’t account for the fact that Lotor is of a different physical build, nor that he’s only half altean, but I’m going to say that those two things roughly cancel each other out—ie. Lotor’s fully grown and more obviously muscled, increasing his mass, but he’s not fully altean, decreasing it—so it’s a ballpark figure.

Tldr; for Keith to not so much as fumble when a wholeass woman dropped into his arms is pretty indicative of good core and upper-body strength, yes! He likely would be able to lift Lotor,,, though not quite so effortlessly as he held Allura, because in altean gravity our favourite purple prince weighs a solid 226lbs, or 16st 2lbs.

Anyway, to answer your questions, I'm currently in S6, moving to S7 with the slowest wifi ever (dammit). You say I shouldn't watch past S3/4 but actually? I only see things really spicing up when I've gone through like half the series. That is to say: I had to drag myself through s1 & s2 LMAO. When I first started this show, everything was just... weird. So, so weird - the robot, the characterization, the plot and how it's told. It still is! I suppose the American cartoon does differ considerably from the Japanese mangas I usually read (even when VLD is actually inspired by a Japanese series---). I had to struggle for quite a bit to accommodate.

But I dragged myself through it, successfully solely because of Keith. Oh thank god for Keith. And yes, I'm 100% a Keith girl. I don't even need to finish the series to know that. Well like a Keith parent but we'll talk ab that later.

I started this series when I saw a quote of him, when he and Pidge argued, ya know? "You're putting the lives of two people over the lives of everyone else in the universe!" or something along that line. And I've known, from that single moment, he would have my heart in his hand. I'm also aware that people usually compare Keith and Nico, and that's actually the number 1 reason I came to know Voltron LOL many thanks to the crossovers.

Still, nothing could have prepared me for the incredibility that is... Keith. He is... magnificent, I'd say. His voice (dammit his voice---), his character design (the cropped jacket please I'm on my knees---And why does Keith have so many stunning shots????? What r u trying to tell me, staff??), his personality---- Somehow, they are all on point - unlike the others'.

Now, I'm not saying the others are bad. I'm saying that there are so many things to explore about them - I do think Lance has many potentials actually - but somehow, only Keith, Pidge (and maybe Shiro, it's hard to tell) give me the mere sense of fulfillment and contentment upon watching. I do not talk about Allura, though she is built quite well. And Hunk is just... there, I do like him tho. Maybe it's the storytelling style that gets me bewildered like half the time. I'm trying. I admit I sometimes find their building... inadequate, to say the least.

I have many things to say about Keith, but let's leave it until I'm ready lolol.

About the shipping thingies, I have to admit Sheith is currently strangling me LMAO. The appeal is clear as day. However, I intend to start indulging in the shipping only when I've finished watching, and maybe after a few days of ruminating on it. There're many potentials! you're literally baby, but contrary to popular belief i feel like the paladins would be pretty chill with you

trust me if they can let pidge do the things she does, you can too (plus you're super badass so it doesn't matter)

not to say that they aren't protective, bc they totally are !! they just show it in like different ways

for instance, coran, shiro, lance, allura, and hunk are the most protective and vocalize their concerns and like you really feel the love with them

you're actually the closest with shiro and lance; it's to be expected since they're just the kinda people who really just always want to make sure you're comfortable, but team voltron loves you all the same :)

lance is very affectionate, so he always has a hand out for you, but on occasions he can't hold your hand he'll intertwine a pinky with yours to let you know he's there

he's also always whispering random stuff in your ear if you sit next to him during diplomat meetings (that seating placement had been revoked after lance made you laugh so hard you fell off your chair during important alliance making)

i'm pretty sure you asked the blue paladin to give you a piggyback ride around the castle once and he was ready to oblige but he ended up falling on his face bc he's a noodle (keith walked in on him as soon as he faceplanted and never lets him forget it)

so you asked shiro instead (which resulted in a pouty lance; you made sure to have a sleepover with him filled with gossip and face masks)

shiro ever the serious thinks it could be dangerous at first, but inevitably lets himself be vulnerable and now you just casually cling onto his back during meetings in the castle, no one pays any mind to it honestly

he just loves that your young lil self keeps him grounded and despite all you've seen you still carry a sense of innocence and bright air for team voltron

also when you're feeling down he lets you wear a jacket of his and it's so big on you 🥺🙈 you know it's not necessarily practical but you will wear shiro's oversized jacket over your paladin armor sometimes

oh and catch him with mini braids in his hair or the little tuft of his white hair a different color in the coming movements in space :)

now, hunk always makes a little too much baked goods for the sake of bringing the extras to your room by the end of the night and sometimes he'll even keep you company while you eat them to talk about anything !!

if he can't stay he always leaves a lil note for you in the basket about how much he appreciates you and everything (you kept the notes in a little box to read whenever you're feeling not great)

as much as you wanna cook with hunk you're under strict orders from lance not to bc he's scared you could be allergic to alien shit and die

on the other hand allura is basically your older sister ! she likes playing with your hair whenever you have conversations together and she listens intently, offering advice because she understands that there's so much pressure behind defeating enemies

she dotes on you though, and loves playing little road trip games with the mice; and when you're travelling for super long periods of time you keep her company in the control room

normally she likes the peace and quiet steering the ship brings her but you're built different so you can babble about anything while you're together

she feels bad when you fall asleep in your respective paladin chair (even if hunk shiro and lance ended up getting / making some pillows and blankets to make it more comfy) so those nights she carries you to her room and you get some space girl cuddles 🥺

coran always makes sure to come in on those mornings with some altean tea and sing some tunes before you start your days, it's his way of trying to make sure you're doing okay

and sweet sweet coran — he always wants to include you in things so when everyone is doing their own thing and he wants to clean, he'll ask you to help him and tells you about altean culture, and even some embarrassing stories

you also take the time to tell him all about earth and their fashion choices, you two are quite the critics !!

so you have your loving older sister, doting brothers, and space uncle coran; but then there's keith and pidge i-

okay so they don't necessarily tell you they care they show you through two ways: educating you, and bullying you whilst being educated

keith was the one who had the honor of training you with your little bayard space daggers but still makes an effort to make sure you learn how to defend yourself with anything you can grab your hands on

thank the ancients for keith because now you can defend yourself with casual shit like spoons and bowls

sparring sessions consist of "ugh no okay let's just focus. patience yields focus" "don't hold it like that you'll end up cutting into yourself instead of the enemy!" and my personal favorite "y/n your form is sloppy they'll dropkick you if you keep that up"

keith may come off as harsh or trying to overwork you sometimes but he just wants you to be able to defend yourself when he's not around, especially when he's off with the blade of marmora

always makes it up to you with a cold glass of water and a really bad joke after a session (on special occasions you get a pat on the back but you pull him into a hug, lance never lets him live that down either)

any given situation he's the first one by your side when you're injured because he zooms over to you bc lance and shiro go pew pew pew

pidge though omg sometimes she sleeps in your room more than she does in her own because she falls asleep teaching you how to code and you even help tinker with her projects

she doesn't bully you as much as keith does but she only started bullying you because you corrected her one (1) time while tinkering

"pidge you misspelled that, you could accidentally turn off the whole system" "okay and who's the one who's been coding for more than a day? i got this" (she did not in fact, get it, because the thing wouldn't even turn on)

their little shenanigans in trying to care for you brought them all closer though they wouldn't admit it to each other (they all think that but will do progress reports when you're not in the room)

i’d say probably an 8. keith definitely seems like the broody touch-starved type whos actually very sensitive but you wont know until he lets you get close.

neck, lower back, and the just below his ribs. all very specific places that will get you a broken hand if you try to touch there.

sorry folks, keith isn’t all that ticklish on his sides or hips, which are some pretty common places to be sensitive. you might get some giggles if you catch him by surprise and tickle him in those places, but nothing of significance and you bet your ass he’s going to retaliate 

what is their laugh like?

it’s higher in pitch than someone might expect looking at him, but you sort of get it once you hear his voice, cause the man aint all that deep. it’s still cute though, and he gets choked up and wheezes sometimes when he laughs too hard since he hasnt had all that much to laugh about growing up, so its foreign to him ):

shiro is a terrifyingly good tickler and adam could attest to that. chris can also attest to that. keith had to deal with some real ticklish nightmares as a kid growing up with shiro, and even after he became an adult and found shiro again, that didn’t stop. lessened a little bit sure, but if shiro needed to make keith feel better or punish him for being the brat he is, he knew what to do

if hes the lee in the situation, then yes it does. if hes the ler, then he will absolutely use it against whoever hes tickling and has no problem saying it, hes simply that bitch sometimes

being a warrior, keith is definitely used to harsher things and with all the training he’s always doing, i wouldn’t be surprised if you needed to dig in there to really get him howling if thats what you want. but i feel like, gentle tickling would not only affect him physically, but also mentally and emotionally, and it would be such a sight seeing him melt like that

“Excuse me,” Allura gently moved her hand away from the man in front of her who had just kissed it in greeting. “As much as I would love to continue this conversation, I’m afraid I’m needed elsewhere.”

The diplomat, from god knows where, nodded as he bowed. “Of course, Princess. I’ll save a dance for you.”

Allura forced a smile onto her face as she bid goodbyes and quickly made her way toward Y/N, who was waiting on the sidelines with a teasing grin.

“Princess, I’ll save a dance for you,” Y/N mocked quietly, following behind Allura as they made their way out of the ballroom.

This was a common occurrence at events like this. Allura would often have to greet suitors who would do just about anything to win her over, and afterwards, she and Y/N would head outside to laugh about their hopeless attempts to woo Altea’s crown princess.

“At least you wouldn’t step on my feet, Y/N,” Allura whispered, a smile tugging at her lips.

Y/N let out a laugh, linking arms with the Princess as they stepped foot into the garden. “Well, I learnt from the best.”

It wasn’t a lie, Allura had taught Y/N how to dance when they were mere children, before Y/N had become one of Allura’s ladies. It was one of her fondest memories honestly.

The Princess let out a sigh as she sat down. “I feel as though the time isn’t right for this party,” she spoke. “Not with Altea on the cusp of war.”

Y/N’s smile faded for a moment. “But isn’t that why we need to have this?” She questioned. “One last hurrah.”

Allura hummed as she picked a junniberry from behind her.

“I don’t know about you, but I’d like to be married before it all,” Y/N suddenly stated.

“Married?” Allura raised a brow. “Y/N-”

Y/N looked down at the glass in her hands. “I don’t know, Allura,” she whispered sheepishly. “We have no idea how things will turn out, so I think it’s okay to hope for things as simple as that.”

Allura stared at her friend. Y/N was right, though Altea was on the cusp of war against one of King Alfor’s longtime friends, they had to have hope. Even for the simple things.

“Do you have anyone in mind?” Allura asked. “Did you fall in love and not tell me?”

Y/N’s face lit up, going almost as pink as the juniberry flower Allura was holding.

“You did!” Allura grinned. “Y/N, why didn’t you tell me?”

“I didn’t!” Y/N shook her head. “You just caught me off guard, Allura.”

Laughter filled the garden, even as Allura returned to what she was making with the flowers. “If I did though, I’d like to believe he would be more serious than the men fighting for your attention. They’re just... too much,” Y/N muttered. “And maybe he’d be good with a sword, so we can train together.”

“Oh! I’d like someone who listens to me, definitely, even if they have no response.”

“Really? I always thought you’d fall for someone on the playful side,” Allura’s eyes flickered to her friend.

“Playful?” Y/N thought about it for a moment. “Playful feels like a step too close to childish. I doubt I could last in a relationship with someone too childish. Though I would like to be someone who can make me smile no matter what.”

“You may be right about that one.” Allura leaned over to place the flower crown atop Y/N’s head. “Though no matter who you come to love, they will never make flower crowns as good as I.”

Y/N smiled softly as she glanced at Allura. “Of course, I wouldn’t even ask them to try.” She then averted her gaze. “But this is all a ‘what if’ scenario, maybe I’ll grow up to be like Coran.”

Allura laughed at that. “You’ll find somebody one day, Y/N, and I’m sure that day isn’t too far in the future.”

“Come on, I’ve fought children stronger than this gladiator!” Y/N taunted, standing on the sidelines as the Paladins trained against the Altean gladiator.

“Y/N is right. The gladiator is set at a level fit for an Altean child!” Allura called out, crossing her arms as her eyes narrowed in the Paladins direction.

Pushing himself up from the floor, Keith took off running at the gladiator, his sword held tightly in his hands. Though before he could get the drop on it, the gladiator was charging in Hunk’s direction, knocking the boy over with ease.

Allura let out a sigh, quickly powering down the simulator as she pinched the bridge of her nose. “Let’s… take a break,” she spoke in frustration.

Y/N’s eyes flickered from Allura, who was already walking out the door, to the Paladins who looked beyond tired. “Good work today, Paladins!” Giving them a thumbs up, Y/N quickly took off after the Princess.

“Keith is almost a natural with his bayard,” Allura noted immediately as Y/N caught up. “The others however… I fear they have a long way to go before they’re ready to face Zarkon.”

“Right,” Y/N nodded. “But they have us here to train them.”

Allura stopped in the hallway, a soft smile beginning to tug at her lips. “While watching, I was reminded of something you said a long time ago,” she spoke. “About the man you’d like to fall in love with.”

Y/N’s brows furrowed in confusion. “What about it?”

“Well, Keith seems to fit those standards, don’t you think?”

“Allura,” Y/N let out a laugh. “I think my taste in men has changed over the last 10,000 years.”

a voltron au? in 2020? it’s more likely than you think

look. LOOK. i know that voltron is stupid and we hate it but lets be honest: everything up until season 3 was pretty good and had lots of potential !!

today i was rewatching voltron and a thought struck me: what if, instead of shiro being cloned, he was chipped and turned to the side of the galra?

so here it is, i did not blink since i thought of this

(warning, i have not seen voltron in a while and this is just knowledge i have stored in my moss brain and stuff i know from rewatching the first season)

au where shiro goes evil bc of what happens @ end of season one instead of the clone thing bc 1) haggar rly could not have made thousands of shiros after bumping into team voltron like what twice? its hella improbable and 2) just… weird

so instead they insert a chip in him that helps them spy and control him just like kuron (the clone) did minus the unlikely storytelling

eventually after the convo with sendak when he was in the pod trying to temp shirp, he does have thoughts about helping zarkon

(“im already infiltrated with the arm, i could just speed up the process by leaving now. save the team the trouble of investing in a leader that’s doomed to fail from the strart.”)

shiro ends up leaving team voltron in season 2 after zarkon goes crazy w the black lion n stuff

^^ this adds to Keith’s reasoning of joining the Blade of Marmora (shiro is his main stability and one of the main reasons he even stuck around with team voltron, so with shiro gone and keith questioning his place as the leader and paladin of the black lion, he decides the BoM is just.. what’s best for him) 

obviously lance isn’t happy with this (“you just told me that i’m a valuable member, now you don’t think YOU are? what logic is that?”)

lance becomes paladin of the black lion

allura takes on the red lion

who has blue lion? ...idk this isn’t that thought out (maybe matt after pidge finds her family) (which will happen earlier in the plot since we can forget about the miniplot of black no longer responding to shiro)

enter lotor only this time he has a sidekick and what omg its shiro wow

shiro has that bigger version of his arm that was once offered to him

he’s stronger and scary, but his eyes aren’t the same, he has the strength of a galra but lacks the passion 

in the fight between lotor and zarkon, (and after, of course lots of self doubt and questioning) shiro comes between them and convinces lotor NOT to kill zarkon

then zarkon kills lotor

everyones like oh shit bc surely someone who’s life was just spared wouldn’t kill the person who seems to have the most power

but he did. bc he’s zarkon. and he’s fckn crazy.

shiro doesn’t go back to team voltron bc its too much too easily

instead he takes the place of lotor in the group of gals 

he convinces them all to rebel against the galra

eventually they teach him all about quintessence and all the shit lotor had planned that they can’t do anymore

(lotor wasn’t harvesting alteans in this universe bc what the heck even was that subplot that had little to no relevance to the main storyline?

instead he was trying to find a way to technologically bring back alteans (kinda like how allure’s dad was originally preserved in s1)

i know nothing about How Stuff Works and i dont remember much about quintessence n shit but the basic idea is that when tying in some of a persons artifacts with technology stuff and some quintessence then boom. a weird route from astral projection land to the team is created and ppl can come back or smth idfk

but lotor was never able to get the comet so shiro decides he and the gals will get that comet and try to bring back as many alteans as they can

^ all this while infiltrating as many galra fleets as possible + saving planets under galra empire

they personally visit every planet that lotor was in charge of and release them from galra control

they are able to bring back an altean (its romelle) and she talks abt her friend who lives on the balmera and they go to the balmera and its revealed that it was shay’s great grandmother so romelle asks where shay is and shay’s family is like with team voltron of course

so

they take her

obviously team voltron, the BoM and the Rebels r very hesitant to make contact but they decide to try it out

keith refuses to meet, instead he’s on the team that stands guard

reunions !! 

romelle and shay hit it off and hunk makes a dinner much like roselle’s past (allura and coran also hang out and they all vibe)

lance talks to shiro abt everything to do with keith and shiro is like dude do u??? like him?

and lance is like what? no ofc not—oh shit.

and keith ✨overhears ✨

pidge matt and shiro catch up n shit

meanwhile keith is like Hey Lance Uhhhhhh What The Fuck

they end up being like hey since we’re all here and we hate zarkon what if we make a plan to end the galra’s reign Right Now

so they do

and y’all.. it’s hella baller plan

except something is going wrong and in the middle of an attack zarkon is able to get the upper hand 

due to haggar’s magic and lance’s mental and emotional instability, zarkon is able to get in his head

everyone is trying to talk him down but they’re all under a lot of pressure

allura is also conflicted bc she wanted to be black lion bc she wanted to rub it in to zarkon’s face that she was stronger than he and that she could beat him at his own game

but the negativity and instability feeds into zarkon’s power and makes him and haggar stronger as they pull in voltron to finally take over the team and regain their status as the most powerful alien race

hunk realizes this and is like okay can y’all stop being negative? its clearly affecting them in a good way and it makes us an easier target

and pidge is like im literally a child pls i don’t wanna die i just got my family back it can’t end like this

shiro realizes what’s going on and he goes to save them

he uses all his energy, pulling in the positive memories (everything: first learning about space, becoming a teacher, meeting adam, meeting keith, first making team voltron, his friends and family--all of it) to push back zarkon and haggar’s powers and battle once more in the astral realm 

in defeating zarkon, shiro loses his life

afterwards keith enters the ship in a hurry and is like where the fuck is shiro where’s my brother what did you do what happened

and team voltron is like hey man.. we are so so sorry

and keith cries because the last thing he ever said to shiro was mean

lance feels like its all his fault since he was supposed to be a good leader

they talk about separately while hunk pidge and allura discuss

krolia is like keith we, ur family, are here for u

and axca is there and shes like um?? hey?? sry for trying to kill u bro

and he’s like i absolutely do not wanna talk i just lost my closest friend

they talk about it later

axca tells keith abt shiro finishing lotor’s work and abt bringing people back and well.. 

they use the methods to help keith visit shiro in the astral realm

shiro is like oh uh hey i was just having a drink w adam we r happy

and keith is like shiro u fuckhead why would u sacrifice urself

shiro sighs bc cmon keith you KNOW why “remember what i always said? we can’t focus on what went wrong..”

“we’ve got to figure out how to make it right” keith finishes

so the galra rule is over and everyone goes to their respected planets

romelle and the other alteans as well as some galra babes hang in earth

romelle and shay r in an apartment together and have a garden

allura realizes she may not have been the strongest leader for voltron, and  couldn’t stop zarkon on her own but that physical strength doesn’t define her as a whole

her heart is strong enough to care for everyone, so thats what she does

allura starts running an inn for alteans filled with painted sceneries like altea in case anyone ever needs a reminder of home

when lance reunites with his family its a real tearjerker

rachel finally gets her jacket back and veronica is like So.. Axca 👀

the McClain’s host a huge party for everyone and it’s filled with lots of hugs and loud music and even tho lance was way too tired, he danced all night

he wouldn’t trade his family for the world—genetic and chosen

when hunk reunites with his parents they don’t let him out the house for hours, he tells them all about his new best friend shay as well as hundreds of his favorites stories from space

they are so, so proud of him

hunk spends the next days playing minecraft and animal crossing with pidge, giving their brains a rest from being on hyperdrive for 3 yrs straight

when pidge gets home she finally gets grounded by her mom, only being allowed to leave the house to see her old teammates

(same for matt and her dad)

(her mother cries so hard when they opened the door to the home)

the holt family holds movie nights filled with popcorn, cuddles, and tears

keith moves in with the holt family, and finally accepts that he has a home as well as a family

he often goes on trips with the BoM but mostly just stays on earth

after a Team Voltron sleepover in the altea inn keith and lance decide to get an apartment together and live their lives in love and in peace

everyone gets together once a year in celebration of shiro and the sacrifice he made for them

they use the ship to visit Astral Shiro and once they even met adam

everyone laughs and catches up and just... live their lives

everyone is happy

this time in “we deserved that voltron episode”: The infamous Ball episode and it is Lance and Allura-centric: - Allura needs to go to this fancy meeting for the coalition and it is BIG IMPORTANT -And of course lance makes a big thing out of it “a big dinner with the world to see and lots of important people”and coran just adds to the fire with something like “ in one of the 34 more romantic systems!!”) - Allura is unsure about holding such a meeting by herself because she doesnt want to be by herself - She talks with Coran and he is like “you are princess Allura you dont need to demonstrate anything to anyone but if you want someone i dont know better lads than the paladins” -She decides to go for Lance’s offer to go with her  -Mostly because she is unsure  on being on her own (for the meeting and like in life in general) -And Lance is making a fuss of it because Allura is actually wanting to go with him somewhere, like a date!!1! - While Allura is dreading the entire thing (she convinces herself it’s because she is anxious about an actual date, but in no moment she is good excited about it) - so they arrive and everyone is like “Altean princess and a paladin, of course!” - And the evening is going alright except for every single interaction they have -It all goes into uncomfortable for them both (so basically how their relationship went in s8 lmao) -Allura is blaming herself because it is not working , like she spends some time kind of listing mentally why Lance, who is interested in her, is a good prospect and objectively he is but she is not interested in Lance and that maybe she can convince herself she could be, -While lance’s plan is technically running smoothly and at the same time he sees how there are no sparks but he wont admit there are no sparks with the princess - And after some real disaster moment, maybe after a horrible dance or in the moment of a speech they just cant deal with this date. -something like, lance going to fix a strand of hair behind her ear and she reacts by getting his hand out of the way and they look at each other and they both see that this is the opposite of a good date -Allura tells lance how this is all been a disaster because of her and that she really wanted it to work because it seemed objectively the best option but she was forcing herself to do that -  and lance comes forward and is just like  “im flattered but you really didnt have to make yourself go out with me, it’s okay im a big boy i can take a rejection” - and after taking it all out of their chest , they laugh about their own disaster date as friends because that is the relationship they both want to have - after everything, in the castle, hunk and pidge are all “wow we thought you would be more heartbroken” and lance is all “yeah, weird, me too” but he is not because he also realised that even when things didn't go well in the girlfriend area it went amazing in the friendship area.

....if somehow they also have a  secret mission/spy subplot for the rest of the paladins, that would be cherry on top bc im super into spies.

I’m definitely a slut for friends-to-lovers dynamics. Like if the ship has the characters showing the audience they have a close bond with each other and unconditionally love and support each other I’m automatically hooked.

Usually. I don’t really like shipping characters just to ship them. I need proof that they could work in canon.

Though I dabble in crack ships, but they’re always for the lulz until I realize I for real ship them...

Abusive and unhealthy elements. If Character A in is a dick to B (but B still loves them because...idk plot) then chances are I’m gonna run in the exact opposite direction of this ship.

It’s why I hardly ever ship enemies-to-lovers unless there’s some hardcore redemption going on in the background.

I can't watch CR until they upload on Youtube but since i don't care about spoilers, this whole Yussa thing is FASCINATING. I CAN BARELY WAIT. PLease tell me Jester told Allura? Because i'm imagining like a group photo moment with the M9 pointing to Yussa in the middle. 'Look what we found!'. or maybe the 'what's that in your hand' meme with Yussa instead of a knife and Allura screaming nO!

OKAY if you want a quick and dirty rundown of what happened with Yussah, basically at the end of the episode they finally managed to track down his cell in the prison of soot, Jester broke the bars, and they got him out! He was very happy and grateful to be rescued, and they all exited through their original exit point, the dragon’s den. Yussah exited a bit before the rest of them and called Allura on the Nein’s behalf, which is pretty much where his role in the episode ended (since the episode ended soon after).

However, from the way you phrase this question, I suspect that you don’t mean Yussah, the mage from the tower in Nicodranas that they were sent to rescue, but actually Halas, the ancient mage who created the Happy Fun Ball and was suspected to still be alive?

Halas was… interesting. The episode started immediately where the previous one left off, pretty much, with the Nein finding themselves in a mysterious room within the Astral Dreadnaught. In the centre of the room was a, well… body that looked suspiciously like the paintings of Halas the Nein had seen, alive but unresponsive. Nott quickly found a ruby which began talking to her, and surprise! It was Halas! He’d been (according to him) trapped inside the ruby for Quite A While, since he thought it would help him transfer his soul into the clone body, but was in fact (according to him) a gem of imprisonment, meaning his soul is stuck in it. Some people (me) suspect it’s not actually a gem of imprisonment and he’s just WAITING to posses someone.

He was pretty desperate (in a very reserved way) for someone to talk to him so he could convince said person to free him, and Caleb (who never touched it, since direct contact is what Halas needs to talk) Was Not Having It and got very snappy with the Nein in order to keep them away from ruby Halas. Eventually, after being hot-potatoed between Jester and Nott, Beau volunteered to chat to him. They figured out Halas had been in there since before the Calamity, because he didn’t even recognise the “P.D.” (Post-Divergence) year dating format. Basically he’s been in a ruby for at least 800-ish years – again, according to him. He’s also Zemnian, or proto-Zemnian, anyway.

The Nein mirror-called Allura on the matter, yes! She seemed wary and not exactly happy, but she dubiously said it sounded like he was telling the truth. Honestly, unfortunately for your wonderful meme scenario, she took it pretty calmly. In fact, she suggested THEY manipulate HIM! Sneaky, Allura. She did say ABSOLUTELY DO NOT FREE HIM, though.

Halas talked the Nein into bringing him, as a ruby, with them out of the Happy Fun Ball in exchange for his knowledge on the Happy Fun Ball. Which, uh… worked out pretty decently overall? He told them how to get out of the Dreadnaught and into his study, and from there what to expect in the prison of soot. Notably, when they asked if the prison of soot was trapped, he said it wasn’t as far as he remembered. Spoiler alert, it was. Was that him deliberately sabotaging them? Did he genuinely not remember? Who knows! They didn’t talk to him much for the rest of the episode, tbh.

As for what Halas was like… Morally grey, true neutral motherfucker who has a bone to pick with death, like, as a concept as well as a reality. Oh, you don’t like necromancy as a society right now? Sucks for you, not relevant to me. Losers. Caleb looked like he was three seconds away from chucking the ruby down a stairwell at all times, Jester felt bad for Halas, and everyone else was at various points in between. They, uh… did not tell Allura that they brought Halas out of the Fun Ball, as far as I remember. In fact, I don’t think they’d figured out what to do with him by the end of the episode. Won’t that be a fun dilemma for next week!

An unpopular opinion: I don’t think Shinsou should be in class 1-A. I think his goal to get there is reflective of his all-or-nothing mindset that has been holding him back and part of him overcoming that mindset will and should involve accepting that there are ways to become a hero without the schooling that some of his peers are getting, and being a hero is about doing HIS PERSONAL BEST and doing the right thing, even when it’s hard, not where he graduated from. Also, he has friends in the gen class and I want him to keep and appreciate those bonds.

What makes me happy about them: God, everything? When they call each other’s names, when they stare fondly at each other, when they touch each other’s shoulders in fondness or reassurance or comfort or simply to remind the other that they’re there and they have their back. God. Keith would and did cross the stars to find Shiro, and Shiro CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD for Keith! They’re soulmates!!!

What makes me sad about them: :) Such a shame we never got a season 8 :) I bet we would’ve had a really amazing resolution to the passion and intimacy of their friendship :) Really just such a tragedy season 8 was cancelled before it could ever air :)

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I really and genuinely do not care for femsheith. Even when it’s a genderbend, which usually checks out for me, I am just Not About It

Things I look for in fanfic: A good balance between tenderness and friendship. It’s not all serious heavy emotions all the time, they’re best friends and they LIKE each other, but it’s also not just all goofs and gags, they’re very soft with each other. Also smut.

My wishlist: Not entirely sure what this is asking but

1. Shiro to acknowledge Keith’s confession from the clone fight

2. Keith to try and play it off (he’s a terrible liar so we know this would not work) because he thinks he’s being rejected

3. Shiro to gently take his shoulder in hand and say he feels the same

4. A tender kiss

5. Absolutely nothing about their public relationship changes. They were in love before they confessed and they are not the types to get all blushy and nervous. Maybe they’ll hold hands or sling their arms around each other’s waists in front of others now but that’s it.

6. They do cool space-politics stuff and then travel the stars together after the war ends, retired and exploring all the wonders the universe has to offer them with their cool space dog.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I don’t have, like, alternate ships for them. I like Heith, and Rolo x Keith, but only really as concepts? I like Keitor and Lotor x Shiro (they have a ship name but I’m forgetting it right now) but only in the context of fanfic, in canon I would want him to work it out with Allura so that’s kinda out. I just genuinely cannot see them with anyone but each other, really. 

My happily ever after for them: In a houseboat, but like, for space. Not a spaceship, since those are really big and built for a lot of people, but a spaceboat. Them, their dog, and the endless expanse of space for them to travel and explore together.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t think her using dark magic is any different than a butcher carving up a cow to be eaten. Yeah if she’s using elf or dragon body parts that’s fuckin bad, because those are people, but humans have a LONG history of killing animals for food + tools + materials, so using certain body parts for magic is also?? Not the worst thing in the world. If a magic sheep can have its meat turned into mutton, its wool turned into clothing, its skin turned into parchment, and its bones turned into  magic, why SHOULDN’T Claudia use it’s bones? Yes, there’s a toll on her body, but like we’ve seen in the show, Dark magic is a FORM. It requires practice, study, patience. The reason Callum reacts to it so badly is because he’s basically some dude who’s never worked out in his life waltzing into the gym and immediately going for the heaviest barbell. Claudia has studied this extensively, practiced it, built up her “magic muscles” so to speak, and so her body can handle it. Viren also overdoes it, but that’s because he knows he can butterfly the negative affects away and doesn’t particularly care if he gets a little ghostly in the process.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: she and Callum had had a chance to talk it out and make up. They’re friends! Best of friends! They have been since they were young kids! She genuinely was trying to do what she thought the right thing was, that’s all she’s ever tried to do, and I think Callum is the kind of person who, with some time to simmer down, has enough empathy and understanding to see that and reason with her.

Shiro:

When he woke up inside the astral plane, he instantly knew that he was dead

Worst of all, he could see the others gathered around the empty chair inside the Black Lion

Moments later, he was now standing behind everyone inside the Black Lion but not saying a word

How could he really? He knew that they would not hear or see him so all he could do is watch from a far in pain as the faces of his teammates had fallen, everyone looking sad

Perhaps what hurt him the most was the look on his S/O’s face who had made their way to the front, as if she had to see it for herself

And once she got her answer, her face went as white as a ghost, shaking their head at the sight

But they didn’t cry, because they knew it that moment that they had to be strong for the team

Keith and Lance instantly swore to Shiro’s S/O that they were going to find him, trying to reassure his S/O that everything will be okay

Shiro just watched his S/O simply give a small smile and nod as Allura wrapped her arms around his S/O’s shoulders for support

That there made Shiro fall to his knees, he wasn’t coming back. No one comes back from the dead

His physical body was gone but his spirit remained inside the Black Lion who had saved him

So all he could really do was watch his fellow paladins and his S/O as they try to do their best to move on and that’s what he wanted for them

To him, the mission of defeating the Galra was more important than his life and that’s what he wanted the paladins to focus on

So for weeks, he just followed everyone around until he was satisfied that they were focused on the mission

Yet he eventually just followed his S/O around, watching them as they smiled and put on a brave face each day, determined to put an end to Galra empire

But he knew his S/O all to well, he knew that they were struggling; barely eating, barely sleeping, and deeply hurting ever since he ‘disappeared’

He wanted his S/O happy and to move on without him and he’d always be there to look out for them in life

Yet a part of him didn’t want to watch his S/O fall in love with someone else, get married, have kids, and grow old with someone else because that’s something he wanted to experience with his S/O

But he put his selfish thoughts aside, knowing that it would be for the best for his S/O to grieve and move on, thinking it would be better for her to forget all about him

Shiro never wants to be the cause of someone’s pain, especially heartbreak

But one night, his thoughts quickly changed as he watched his S/O climb out of their bed and walked in the direction of the Black Lion

Curious and wanting to protect his S/O, he followed behind his S/O, watching them carefully

His S/O climbed into the Black Lion, taking a seat in the empty pilot’s chair as she sat in silence

He watched and waited for whatever they might do, waiting on baited breath until heard the familiar sound of her sobs

Yet he had never quite heard someone cry like that before, that pure sound of heartbreak filled by scream and tears

His S/O clutched their frame as tears bursts forth like a dam had broken, heaving as they tried catching their breath but it quickly escaped from them each time

In the few moments his S/O was able to catch their breath, they uttered his name over and over again

“S-Shiro, come back… Please please come back. I-I’m not as strong as you thought I was. It’s hard and it hurts!!” They cried, begging for his touch once more

Shiro crouched in front of his S/O, placing his hand on their knee even though he knew they couldn’t feel his touch

All he wanted in that moment was to yank his S/O forward and hold them to tell them that he hasn’t gone anywhere and has never left them

“I’m sorry, Y/N… I never meant to cause you this much pain. I promise I’ll make it back to you. I don’t know how or it’s even possible but I’ve done the impossible before. Just hang on for a bit longer, please baby, I need you to be strong.”

And now, Shiro is going to find a way to some how to at least be able communicate with his S/O, hoping to give them some sort of comfort
