OJT EATS | Alley Cats

Here at OJT, we love a good pizza, regardless of the style. There are already some pretty great pizza places but they tend to be Italian neopolitan style pizza. It's actually a lot harder to find a good New York Style place. Recently though, Alley Cats in Marylebone (and their more recently opened place in Chelsea). It's a walk-ins only place so in an attempt to avoid the long queues, we headed over for an early dinner.

Any place that has candied bacon as a starter makes a great first impression in our books! While it wasn't quite as crispy as we'd hoped for, it was still nicely thick cut bacon that was salty and sweet; a perfect start to the meal!

The green goddess salad is pretty loaded with spinach, carrots, radish, cucumbers, asparagus, baby tomatoes and of course thee smoked bacon that you can see in the photo. The dressing was lovely and fresh. You can get it as a crust dipper as well if you really enjoy it!

This was the house special Mortadella Folder. Made with their pizza dough, rather than a tomato sauce, they just put some mortadella and straciatella on it, fold it all up and garnish it with some pistachios. The dough was crispy, chewy, dense without being too heavy and it was full of flavour. A really good dough which was a good sign for their pizza.

We went with the pepperoni pizza. It had hot honey, jalapenos and of course pepperoni. This was an excellent pizza and easily one of the best NYC style pizza places we've been to in London. The sweet, spicy and salty flavours worked really well together and that dough is well worth the queue.

For dessert, we had their tiramisu which wasn't very traditional (those are pistachios and peanuts on top) but was very tasty. It was pretty rich but a lovely end to the meal.

This place has a great atmosphere and really good pizza. You'll have to queue, especially at busy times but it does seem to move pretty quickly and unless you get very unlucky, it's worth the wait!
