#All Might critical

Hi Mikeellee
The posts we were talking about got me thinking...
It's sad we don't get to see what Heroes think of the commercialisation of Pro Heroes
All Might puts his body on the line to save people, and there's some CEO who makes massive amounts of cash selling merch off him
I can see Pro Heroes wanting a cut of the money not to have a problem with being commercialised
But we don't see anyone who's against it
We don't even get a reaction to there being Stain Merch
Pro Heroes were killed or crippled by Stain, yet there's a greedy pig making money off selling merch of the Hero Killer
No one even says anything!!?
Like it's normal to do this in Hero Society
People think Stain had a problem with it, which he did, but he loves All Might who doesn't have a problem with businesses making merch off him
What a hypocrite
Hi @kite2013
Honestly? Why would anyone, in a capitalist setting, be against profit? It is stated the hero JOB is one of the most profitable ones.
So Izu is the odd duck (what surprise 😒) by not give a shit to money and fame....which is admirable but also really dumb of him. We do like praises for our work...and I can't help wonder if Izu not liking fame is him being modest or just traumatized?
Maybe both
Its not as if hori cares.
But am does come across like a hypocrite...also, his issues with Gran does make him look worse.
1) if Gran is this cruel and ruthless sensei...why let Izu go with him or at least heads up him?
2) we don't see anything between izu and Gran training that could indicate "this man is a sadistic" but I can point out am is friendly with Nezu.
3) AM's big help was let izu clean the beach alone while fans hover am and ignore izu.
I think that gag "oh no my sensei is super scary" makes am look like a fool.
Hori hates izu, shig and am in this order.

Not to sound too inflammatory, but how the HELL did Horikoshi write Bakugou vs Izuku 2 the way he did and think that's good writing?
This was supposed to be Bakugou's #BigMoment where he stops being a bully to Izuku and instead becomes his rival. This is supposed to be where he starts to actually develop past his abusive egoist (Hori's words, not mine) personality and realize that he's not the main character and needs to get his head out of his ass.
Instead of getting that, we get this utter hot mess where Bakugou is once again put on a pedestal over Izuku, and Izuku's the one having to make nice with him because of course he is.
To outline, Bakugou up to this point has:
Mercilessly bullied Izuku for 10+ years for being Quirkless, while simultaneously acting offended that Izuku never told him about OFA during the QAT
Was an ungrateful asshole to Izuku after he tried saving him from the Sludge Villain
Attempted to torture him and nearly killed him during the Battle Trials
Nearly got Thirteen killed when he ruined her plan to subdue Kurogiri at the USJ
Toyed with Ochako during the Sports Festival
Accossted an unconcious Todoroki during the Sports Festival, which got both him and UA immense public backlash
Was an ungrateful, aggressive asshole to Best Jeanist both in and out of public to the point where Best Jeanist remarks on Bakugou's complete lack of growth
Backhanded Izuku and outright said he'd rather fail his final exam rather than work with Izuku
Deliberately disobeyed orders to run back to camp and instead ran straight for the villains (twice!)
Had to be reminded over and over again to not use his Quirk due to collateral damage reasons (not that he understands or cares about that, but whatever)
Was an ungrateful asshole to All Might and the tean during the entire Kamino Ward mission
Failed the Provisional License Exam due to his horrible attitude towards civilians
You'd think that with how complex and three-dimensional we're supposed to believe Bakugou is, he'd realize that the public and his mother have a point in regards to his attitude. You'd think that he'd reflect on his behavior and realize that heroes SHOULDN'T act like this, especially as someone who's such an All Might fanboy (gag).
Similarly, you'd think that UA would realize that even if it's solely for PR's sake, they need to crack down on Bakugou's behavior and stop enabling him at the expense of Izuku and everyone else. It's already landed Aizawa and his teaching in hot water, since it makes it look like he couldn't care less about his behavior (which he proceeds to confirm is indeed the case). Should Bakugou vs Izuku 2 still happen, All Might could have given Bakugou a reality check and told him that:
OFA is none of his business
Bakugou doesn't have the attitude All Might wants in a successor
His bullying of Izuku is awful and needs to stop effective immediately
All Bakugou is doing is making himself and UA look bad with his attitude
Bakugou can get people - including himself - hurt and/or killed with his attitude and actions
Crying and pitching a fit about it isn't going to change anything
Have Bakugou and only Bakugou punished since he not only started the fight, he wouldn't let Izuku leave
But nope. We get this instead:
Bakugou coerces Izuku into breaking curfew
Bakugou demands to know why he failed his exam while Izuku passed his
Bakugou demands to know about OFA and why Izuku didn't stay inferior to him like he was "supposed to"
Bakugou then segways into his whiny proclamation that he made All Might retire
Bakugou then makes Izuku fight him
Bakugou pitches a fit to All Might about not being chosen to weild OFA and cries like a toddler being denied candy at the checkout line... leading to All Might COMFORTING HIM and leaving Izuku by the wayside
Aizawa proceeds to not even TRY to get the full story and Bakugou gets house arrest, but Izuku does as well which negates the whole fucking point
How the HELL is any of this good writing? How the HELL is any of this positive character development for everybody involved? All it does is further show that a) Hori really wishes Bakugou was the main character, b) Bakugou is a walking talking example of why Tell Don't Show never works, and c) everyone else's characterization suffers because of this.

There are times where I lowkey wish midoriya told Iida and Uraraka about OFA way sooner because he deserved to have support from his first real friends instead of a guy who literally put down all of his accomplishments for no fucking reason. Also cause like 6 different people in All mights lil circle knew about OFA so why the hell not

rewatching bnha and...
why the fuck is aizawa such a jackass in the start of the series? like i imagine his class grows on him but bakugo's behavior Is Not Healthy Or Even Joking. midoriya could've died multiple times due to the negligence of his teachers (all might i am looking at you). and of course that isn't even touching on midoriya and bakugo's dynamic. all of it's really fucked up and normalizes abuse and bullying even from teachers who are supposed to protect their students.

When you spend 20 years attempting to bring down the child slavery, murdering, human trafficking exploitation ring that stole your childhood, murdered your friends, and killed countless innocents only to have them rebrand as 'Noble Freedom Fighters™' off-screen.
#rip zevran's crusade against the crows >:(#when people said they wanted to be crows they didn't want devs to make the faction nice so we won't feel bad or conflicted about it#people wanted to be conflicted! they wanted to see the faction in all its glitz and glamour - then see what it hid beneath all the mystique#choose to play as a crow that loves the life/hates it/is undecided/etc...#but i'm sorry i forgot that this game doesn't want to do 'role play' options my bad#i will not stand for this zevran erasure!!!#they set up a schism with zevran's da2 codex entry - with other crows joining him!#have the antivan crows faced with a threat that challenged their outlook on why they fight#have the talons be the one to sell out antiva! in exchange for allowing their business to resume (have it be a sneaky reveal!!!)#their work has purpose and order to it so the antaam might agree! they're like 'babys first ben-hassrath!'#have Crows look around at their own home - see the vendor they bought fruit from disappear or the smiling old lady now cowed by grief#then have them decide to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT#have a schism! have Zevran take in Crows who are unhappy - have them realize how shit the organization is!#boom! somewhat-noble freedom fighters! when people think delilah just completely takes over and laudna has no control. when people think jester is just an uwu child who has been manipulated by every man she’s met. when people think vex is an empty husk of daddy issues without her brother by her side. when people think fjord is an arrogant asshole who doesn’t pay attention to the party around him. when people think scanlan saying that vox machina doesn’t care about him is an accurate assessment.

I have said this before to @doodlegirl1998 but Izu knows nothing about the Shimuras....of Hori makes Izu see MONCHAN's death....it will be awful but also empty.
It's sort to retcon how they now so have a relationship when...it fails. Shig and Izu don't know each. I know the fandom screams "they are sibs" for whatever reason but the reality is they are more acquaintance than anything...
That out of the way....got to say: one person one said-one of those fans™- how it's good Izu is struggling to Save Shig....he should struggle bc being a hero and saving people can't be easy....which I get the meaning, I do. Except, people forget Izu is constantly struggling...all his step is incredible hard and unfair to him (no that I want his journey to be smooth but people need to understand how Izu is unfairly treated since chap1. Why Aldera was like that? "Quirkless discrimination"besties...he was the only quirkless kid ever, and BK was already horrible to him before the reveal)
Here my take I think Izu saving BK on chap1 was his hardest saving....bc he almost died to save his abuser.
(hate how am let Izu being mistreated by the heroes, yes, they aren't wrong per se, Izu was reckless and he was a civilian...but they went to praise BK for why exactly? Like AM was inspired by Izu and did shit to defend him)
"it's to humble him"
Ah yes I totally forget...Izu is so arrogant and thinks the world circles around him 😒 which Izu are they really reading? Canon Izu thinks he is worthless...more "humbling' and he may take his life.

Just started watching ep. 118 (yes I know I'm behind, I've been busy playing Prey and writing essays on Octavia Butler with life) and in listening to Ludinus' monologue I had a thought about a specific disconnect that cause many, in universe as well of out of it, to view the gods as tyrants. Imogen points it out when Ludinus laments about his family being collateral damage in the battle between the Lawbearer and the Crawling King: would he rather the Crawling King have been unleashed on the world to wreak havoc uncontested? (to which his response was a long silence and glaring at her)
It’s an inability to understand and accept the true scale and nuance the gods operate on, and in doing so choosing to place individual suffering and slights over ultimate consequences that may, and often do, affect the entire world. Yes it’s horrible that the gods struck down Aeor - but they were defending themselves against a weapon of mass destruction, and any other action would have been akin to lining themselves up to be shot. Yes it sucks that the Titans, who were there first, were killed - but they were trying to exterminate all mortals. Yes the deaths during the Calamity were unforgivable - but the alternative would've been to let the Betrayers kill everyone. Yes it’s horrible that the primes wouldn’t let their champions oppose Lolth in taking Opal - but they are in the middle of a battle for the world in which all hands are needed, and losing champions to a minor skirmish when they want the same thing would be pointless. Yes it’s unfair that the gods won’t personally step in and help every little person suffering, such as Ashton and Laudna - but they're literally gods responsible for the lives and afterlives of millions, and also separated by the Divine Gate, which was literally erected to protect mortals from the fallout of too much divine meddling.
When pressed, Ludinus switches to saying that it isn't the collateral itself that is the problem, but that the gods won’t personally remember and beg forgiveness for every single life lost. In saying this, he also claims that he is different - but is he? Does he honor the lives of Orym's family? The children tortured under Trent and other suffering caused by the Cerberus Assembly? The thousands lost in the war between the Empire and the Dynasty because he wanted his own beacon? The entire city of Molaesmyr? Does he even remember the many individuals indoctrinated into his cult and lost in the ensuing battle?
In the end, it isn't about collateral, or honoring those sacrificed. It's that he finds his suffering uniquely bad, and his goals uniquely warranted. Only HE (and people who want the same exact thing as him) has the right to make desicions that affect all of Exandria.
