Well. I was playing through the Ostagar DLC today. I intended to loot a Darkspawn corpse, but accidentally clicked on Alistair instead. And so he and my character had their first kiss after clearing out a wave of Darkspawn in the fort where they first met.
Somehow, I think it fits.
For bonus points, I gave him the Joining chalice, which I found in the exact same spot where they first met.
Also, King Cailan's corpse, the way it was shown, reminded me of some paintings of Saint Sebastian I had seen on the internet. Intentional reference?
Either way, there's a level of unintentional comedy to Dragon Age II when you realize the DLC companion is a highly religious archer named Sebastian... and his religion is the Christianity-parallel...

Whumpcember Day 5-Impaled (Dragon Age: Origins Alistair/Warden Cousland)
"Trap!"
Leliana's warning came late, the trap activating and catching Rose Cousland as she shoved Alistair out of the way. The iron spike breaking her armor and driving itself into her side, she let out a scream of pain as she dropped her sword.
"Rose!" Alistair shouted from his position on the floor, where he'd landed after she'd taken his place. Scrambling to his feet, he cautiously took a step towards her but stopped when she held out her hand.
"No." Rose gasped out, the pain nearly making her blackout. "Stay...there. Could...be more."
"Then Leliana'll find them and disarm them." Alistair was taking charge of the situation, even though he'd rather not. Turning to the bard, Leliana nodded and started to scour the room for anymore traps that might layabout.
Alistair let out a sigh and ran a hand through his already blood splattered hair. "Of all the times not to bring Wynne along..." he thought while taking a hesitant step towards Rose and trying not to stare at the wound that was starting to seep blood around the edges.
"You should've let me take it."
Rose let out a huff of amusement and grimaced at the pain it caused. "You always seem to get the fun traps, maybe I wanted a turn."
Alistair just shook his head and opened his mouth to answer when he heard Leliana shout, "The room is all clear!"
"Well now that that's taken care of, time to deal with mister pointy here."
"Alistair please, you're going to cause more damage with your jokes."
"Me joke at a time like this? Please, I know better. Just going to grab these," Alistair slowly reached for the pouch of potions at Rose's waist and careful unhooked them, combining them with his own and Leliana's. "Hmm...at least we have enough ice potions for when it gets too hot."
"I think I can deactivate this one, just be ready when I do." Leliana said as she slowly made her way around the pair, carefully looking for the mechanism that controlled it.
"At least we didn't bring Zevran this time." Rose grunted, trying to resist the urge to shift around and cause even more damage. "I'd never get out."
"That's not fair, he got us out of that jam in Redcliffe." Alistair replied as Leliana found what she was looking for and started studying it.
Rose raised an eyebrow, "Now I know I'm seriously injured, you of all people are defending Zevran."
"Only because he's not here to do it himself."
"Alistair, get ready." Leliana said, placing her hand into the mechanics of the trap. "On three. One...Two...Three!"
The scream echoed throughout the room and Alistair caught Rose as her legs gave out and fell forwards.
"Quick, the potions!" Rose heard Alistair shout before everything went black.
--
The dull ache in her side is the only thing that told Rose she was still alive. Slowly opening her eyes, she was greeted with the stone ceilings that had been a constant since arriving in Orzammar. The amazing carvings had been a reminder that beauty could be found in the ordinary and so far underground it had been somewhat comforting.
Pressing a hand to her side as she slowly sat up, she wondered how long she'd been out. Then a snore drew her attention to the foot of the bed and she turned her head to see Alistair asleep there; his head on the mattress awhile the rest of his body leaned against the bed.
A soft smile appeared as she watched her lover sleep. After watching her family and home be destroyed at the hands of Arl Howe, it had been hard to open up to someone again. But Alistair had been there, waiting patiently until she was ready. Somehow, in the midst of all the fighting and cajoling everyone to respect the treaties with the Warden's, they had found a bit of happiness with each other.
Alistair woke up and realized that in waiting for Rose to regain consciousness he had fallen asleep. Blearily raising his head, he ran hand over his face to get rid of the last cobwebs of sleep and looked up to see Rose awake and sitting up.
"You shouldn't be up so soon." he protested while standing and ignoring the protest of his own muscles.
"Says the man with drool still on his face." Rose gently teased, removing the hand from her side and placed it on the bed towards Alistair. "I'm fine. Perk of having drank darkspawn blood is improved healing remember?"
"I know just...we were all-I was...it was a close one." Alistair simply replied.
"Hey." Rose looked at Alistair, giving him a gentle smile once he was looking at her. "I'm here, we're both here. Together until the end, remember?"
"Together until the end." Alistair echoed, remembering the promise they made to each other that first night they'd slept together.

"You know, nice as this is, I do have a council meeting to get to." "I know─ I'm supposed to be there too, remember?" "Guess we'll be late together, then." "What are they going to do? Start the meeting without the king and his top advisor? They'll wait a few minutes." "Good point. Come around the front, then─ I want a proper hug. A kiss too, while we're at it. King's orders." "Then we'll really be late..."
(Ya'll I am just... the biggest slut for men with long hair so of course I had to try it out on Alistair! He rocks it, lets be honest 👀)

Twiddles
Elissa dragged her arm across her forehead, certain she looked an absolute mess. Her hair was probably sticking out at all angles, curls long since devolved into frizz. She could feel the sheen of sweat on her cheeks and the way her shirt was sticking at the back.
(She could only hope that there wasn’t a tell-tale stain as well…)
Usually, of course, she couldn’t have cared less about what she looked like while training. But then usually her training sessions were with Ser Gilmore, and there wasn’t anyone around to impress. At least not with her looks.
But lately, she found herself rather keen to impress with her looks.
Though to only one member of their little group in particular.
Normally, she wouldn’t have voluntarily elected to train in front of him – at least not in a way that required such intense effort – but the way Isabela had fought in the Pearl had been incredible, and she’d have been a fool to pass up the opportunity. Especially when Zevran knew her.
There was also something vaguely familiar about her too. Perhaps it was merely because she was a captain, but she thought it was more than that, a similar spirit, something shared by Isabela and herself and her mother.
She just wished Alistair had elected to remain in the brothel as Zevran had. She knew why he hadn’t, understood even, but having him out here lounging against the wall watching her with intense eyes as she tried to learn Isabela’s complex techniques was a little distracting, to say the least.
Twice already, Isabela had called a halt in order to loudly reprimand her for getting distracted by the tall, handsome scenery.
His coolly raised eyebrow had only made her blush even worse.
Possibly worse than his blush when the madam had informed him that many of her girls would be interested in soliciting his coin, and be glad to have done so.
She was still trying to ignore the rush of red hot jealousy that had elicited.
Still trying to convince herself that he wasn’t hers.

It's interesting to me how much Alistair and Warden Cousland have in common.
Both, as far as they knew, lost everyone they cared about one night due to one man's betrayal, and now they seek revenge. One is a noble who has to learn how to be a Grey Warden, the other is a Grey Warden who, in some paths, has to learn how to be a noble. Cousland takes naturally to the leadership role, while Alistair can grow into the leadership role if nudged the right way.
Both also discover their sibling is alive later on.

Whumpcember Day 21- Choking (Dragon Age: Origin Alistair/Warden Cousland)
@whumpcember
Warning: food allergy reaction
Takes place post-game
--
"What is this?"
Rose Cousland looked up to see Alistair peering at the dish that was among the gifts that had been sent from various nobles around Thedas to celebrate their wedding. "That's from...Duke Gaspard in Orlais." she said, consulting the parchment that had been started to keep track of who had sent what gift. "Apparently it's called 'shrimp' and is from their coastal region. Or so the diplomat who gave it to me said."
"Whatever it is, it looks a lot like a tail." Alistair frowned slightly as he picked one up and gave it a wiggle in her direction. "Why don't we give it a try?"
"You first." Rose said, shaking her head in amusement as he set it down and then absently scratched his hand. "I think we need to at least eat it in front of everyone at the wedding banquet so they can see we didn't just throw it out."
"Will it last until then?"
"I think the ambassador said to keep it on ice, so if we do that then probably." Rose replied, as she picked up the quill to mark a notation on the parchment. "Do you think we'll start an incident if we don't eat it and give it to the Mabari? I don't want to be rude, but it looks...odd to me."
"Maybe if we claim it's a 'Fereldan tradition' to feed Mabari gifts."
Rose let out a slight laugh at the statement before watching Alistair take a large bit of shrimp, finishing her notation and looked up at Alistair, letting out a gasp at what she saw.
"What?" Alistair asked, scratching his neck as it itched something fierce.
"Your neck is covered in spots!" Rose set down the parchment and quill before crossing the short distance between them. Taking his hand, she examined it. "Do you feel ill?"
"No, I mean other than the itching I'm fine." Alistair said as Rose frowned even more. "I mean, my-" he cut off with a gasp, suddenly finding it hard to breath.
Rose saw the panic flash across Alistair's face, knowing that it was mirroring her own. Dropping his hand, she quickly strode to the door, opening it and shouting, "The King needs a healer. Now!"
Alistair sat heavily in a chair, struggling to breathe and was dimly aware of shouting and Rose grabbing his shoulders, shaking him and then other voices joining as everything grew blurry.
--
"I don't need to relax. I'm fine!" Alistair protested as Rose just gave him a look and gently, but firmly, pushed him back into bed.
"Not until Wynne is satisfied the poison's left your system." Rose said briskly, the concern and worry in her voice still evident.
"How do you know I was poisoned? Was a vial found with 'poison for the King' written on it."
"Alistair stop." Rose snapped, straightening up and folding her arms. "You almost died. Thank the Maker that Wynne was even here in the castle to heal you. I told Tegan that we needed a taster and if Orlais thinks it can get away with-"
"Love." Alistair interrupted, taking Rose's hand in his and giving it a squeeze. "I'm fine now. You were here and your quick thinking saved me."
"I don't want to lose you as well." Rose whispered, not trusting her voice at the moment. "We've been through so much and if you...it would have broken me."
Alistair wiped the stray tear from her face with his thumb and pulled her closer so he could envelop her in an embrace. He could have gone on like that, just the two of them in their own world, but the sounds of a commotion outside the door made them break apart and straighten themselves before the door opened and a guard stuck his head inside.
"Sorry Your Majesty, but the Orleasan ambassador wants to speak to you right away."
"Send him in." Alistair nodded and there was a pause before the door opened wider to let the man in.
"Your Majesty, I'm relieved that they were able to get to you in time." The man said in a rush. "If I had known of your predisposition I wouldn't have suggested to Queen Celene that-"
"What do you mean 'predisposition?'" Alistair interrupted, seeing that Rose was confused as well.
"That you would react to the shellfish like so many of my countrymen have." The Orleasan ambassador replied, tilting his head slightly. "I thought you knew."
"Enlighten us." Rose spoke up, taking a slight step forwards.
"In Orlais there is an affliction that causes people, sometimes many members of the same family, to respond negatively to shellfish. Some it is not so bad merely an irritation. But others, like the King, it is nearly fatal. At times it is if they are not aware of it until they are older. Please believe me when I say I hope this does not cause any further discord between Fereldan and Orlais."
"I think-" Rose started to say but Alistair cut her off.
"It's fair to say that the gift was made with good intentions and for that Celene has my thanks."
Rose watched as the ambassador looked visibly relieved and gave a sweeping bow before leaving. She waited until the door closed before turning back to Alistair, "That was oddly diplomatic of you."
"What can I say, I have my moments."
"Well, I hope you have many more 'moments' now that we know not to bring any of this 'shellfish' around you." Rose brushed a stray hair from his face and gave him a smile.
