alicent's relationship with helaena is quickly becoming one of my favorite dynamics within team green, in large part because helaena seems actually closest to her out of all of alicent's children. helaena chooses to confide in her mother about her feelings, about her grief and her guilt over said grief when the smallfolk suffer more than she does. and though alicent struggled to comfort aegon, but she does not struggle to comfort helaena here; she validates helaena's grief and continues to center helaena in her feelings throughout the conversation. and i think it's because of this that helaena decides to address alicent's clear guilt by offering her forgiveness, because she knows precisely what is tearing her mother up inside and she wishes to do what she can to help. both mother and daughter struggle to connect to their emotions for different reasons, and yet both of them try so hard in order to reach each other.

Do you ever just imagine how frustrated and afraid Alicent was at the idea of marrying Helaena outside the family because not so many a Lord would understand that Helaena is neurodivergent and poke fun at her or despise her as a result?

Additionally, Alicent couldn't marry Helaena to Aemond or even Daeron, when he came of age, because war was on the horizon and her two younger sons are not claimants -- Aegon is. Aegon and Helaena's marriage was a matter of urgency.

Alicent had to resign herself to the fact that her daughter was as doomed as her. Doomed to a marriage she didn't want. Doomed to early motherhood like she was. Doomed to be a political target for Rhaenyra's side (just look at how Rhaenyra proposed for Helaena to become a political prisoner by marrying Jace).

I think this is why we see Alicent ever at Helaena's side. Because even with all the difficulties Helaena faces, at least she gets to offer her only daughter one thing she never got as a young girl and mother: companionship.

Alicent saying “I do not wish to be a spectacle” but not caring about her daughter or her dead grandson being made one. She’s so repugnant.

She only care about herself and even when she visited Helaena who was broken and grieving, she tried to discuss her screwing Criston, she doesn’t even try comforting her, she just wants to make sure Helaena keeps quiet about it, and then when Aegon was crying, she left to have sex with Criston AGAIN.

Yeah...well, all I can really say is that she is hypocritical and ashamed of her own desire, so she is very one trackminded towards re-establishing a specific social order. She doesn't allow herself room to reflect.

Alicent and Helaena’s relationship is very moving to me because Alicent really does let Helaena be on charge in some way .With Aegon and Aemond the relationship is built in away where she is the mother and her role is very felt by both boys ,in the Aemond case in a very positive way tho .But with Helaena ,while she is still obviously a mother ,she is different.Its thebway Alicent has Helaena on her rooms whenever she wants to with her kids ,or the way she always takes her seriously even as she talk about something she doesn’t care about .Or when Helaena is but a baby girl and while Alicent does try to calm her down she never tells her to stop crying and it’s the way-

Everyone says Aemond was Alicent's favourite but was he, really? She didn't mind Aegon's bullying, she was only against Aegon teaming up with Jace and Luke. She comforted him twice, when he risked his life going after dragons, and when he had lost an eye, but her rage was more aimed at Rhaenyra, it's been boiling for years. During the funeral in Driftmark she didn't pay attention to her children at all, she was busy looking at Rhaenyra. She didn't care about Aemond's trauma when she praised Rhaenyra at the dinner or when Jace hit him. I wish the show hadn't skipped the break of their relationship after Storm's end though.

yeah i think it's because the only real scenes of her showing affection and it being accepted were with aemond in season 1 (reassuring him after the bullying + holding his hand and fighting for him after he lost his eye). she did reach out to helaena, but either helaena didn't accept it, or it was in a time of distress like vaemond's death so those instances maybe flew more under the radar at first. i do remember being struck by how her first instinct when faced with meleys was to order criston to protect helaena, not anyone else.

this season has made it 1000000% clear tho that her favorite is helaena and always has been. the seeds are there in season 1, and it's pretty in character considering alicent's own mommy issues + the fact that she probably sees both herself and rhaenyra in helaena. so i'm not too bothered and that's someone who was fully on the aemond mama's boy head canon train lol

what’s your fav relationship Alicent and someone and Rhynera and someone have that isn’t each other out of curiosity? Like maternal, platonic, romantic, antagonistic whatever you find interesting or enjoyable

For Alicent I like to see her relationship with her children! Especially Helaena I'd say as my favourite. (Though all of them are each individually interesting. ) The circumstances in which they had their children and the trauma they share is interesting to see how they both sift through it. It's also really interesting to see how their relationship is simultaneously close but also couldn't be more distant and estranged- Their conversations can be tense, Helaena withdraws a lot physically and mentally, etc. But you can tell they still fiercely love each other and try to protect each other. After the end of s2 finale, I'm more intrigued to as how they'd show her relationships/feelings with her kids now, especially Aegon.

For Rhaenyra, I've been enjoying seeing her relationship with the small-folk. On one hand, since s1 she's never particularly cared about them or their opinion, but still recognised their importance. In season two her relationship with them is almost viewing them as nothing but pawns. We have her being behind the blockade, causing the starvation of all the smallfolk and not caring until it provided her with political gain to help them- (e.g sending them food so they'd be in her support.) As well as willing to let smallfolk claim dragons for the sake of helping her in the war, but still ultimately viewing them as lesser or at least being okay with having them die for her purpose. After the finale, I am interested to see how (or if) the small-folk (e.g hugh) who did claim dragons will abide Rhaenyra- especially her commands that directly harm other small-folk.
