Song Review: MC5 - “Boys Who Play with Matches”
Neither you - nor the MC5 - can go back.
But the latter tries with “Boys Who Play with Matches,” the lead single from the band’s first album in 53 years. Heavy Lifting features the final recordings of founding members Wayne Kramer, the driving force behind the LP, and drummer Dennis “Machine Gun” Thompson, who plays on two tracks; both men died in 2024.
“Boys” sounds nothing like the groundbreaking MC5, because it isn’t MC5 really, and comes off more like a generic outtake from Alice Cooper Goes to Hell, with clichéd lyrics and unnecessary backgrounds that betray a group of musicians trying too hard to sound cool.
Out Oct. 18, Heavy Lifting features a slew of fans/guests including Slash, Vernon Reid, Don Was, Tom Morello and others.
Grade card: MC5 - “Boys Who Play with Matches” - D

Pt. 4: Everything Else And Loading Some Bullets
After Sojiro promises the thieves he'll nab them an RV from a friend of his, we transition to the next day, where we comically cut to Zenkichi being all shocked and up in arms over them getting a camper.
(sorry, I had to. This line is too funny not to include).
He then brings up the problem of having the boys and girls sharing sleeping space (you can argue that this odd concern could be foreshadowing for something we find out about him later), to which the girls bring up that they can protect themselves.
Zenkichi then rightfully backs off from that topic all together, which lets Makoto ask him for Alice's phone, something she requested from him the day before (how she got his contact information, since we never see this exchange, I'll never know). He hands it to Futaba, who goes through it and discovers someone's been monitoring her phone. However, she can't trace who it is....
WAIT-
....why are you like this?
I like this little detail, where Futaba admits that that's all she could find, but Zenkichi still congratulates her for finding what she did.
It's cute! See? He DOES care! Despite being a smug d-bag!
The thieves are disappointed, but Zenkichi points out that there's more cases they can work with in the future that might turn up with more leads. And with that, Zenkichi confiscates the phone to give back to Alice and takes off, bidding the thieves fairwell.
BUT! This isn't the last time we see Zenkichi this arc, for he has one last appearance to close things off.
We see him waiting in the police meeting room we saw at the beginning of the game, seemingly lost in thought. So much so, that he somehow doesn't notice Kaburagi enter, walk in, and stand right next to him. He claims it's because he hasn't slept in a bit due to this case, but considering all the other crap we see him stay up for, I'm having my doubts. Also, what part of your stalking routine forced you to stay up for 3 days straight? What, was he looking through our window while we slept?
He then explains that he has successfully made cooperation with the Phantom Thieves, and that despite their standoffish-ness with him, he promises to fully win them over eventually. Is that what you were doing these past 3 days?
What proceeds is what I like to call, 'The Loading Of Chekhov's Gun.' Basically, we get a back-to-back of different setups that will pay off later on.
Kaburagi goes on to praise Zenkichi for being so "dependable", with him stating that it's only due to her taking him under her wing, and that he'll always do what she asks of him.
Bullet #1
She then reminds him that due to the brass wanting this case done and over with for some reason (foreshadowing), he should not in any way get attached to the thieves, for their arrest is only but inevitable. Zenkichi responds accordingly:
Load that second bullet into the chamber and place your bets, everyone!
Also love how not even Kaburagi believes him, it's great!
Before Kaburagi leaves, she then asks:
We don't know who she's talking about at this point, but judging by Zenkichi’s reaction being with a downcast, "Ma'am", we can only guess it's someone that's personal.
Bullet #3
As soon as she leaves, Zenkichi points out the obvious that there's no way in Hell his Commissioner would believe anything about the Metaverse, so wisely kept it to himself. He then goes on to ponder how he's gonna get something out of the thieves, and says this:
So, remember the deal he made with you, not...YESTERDAY ago?
Yeah, he was lying.
Despite it being for just in case the case were to go south, he's still basically going against the deal that he's been working oh-so hard for.
What makes this situation even more screwed is, remember what he says as a response to you threatening him if he went back on the deal?
He KNOWS the consequences if he goes back on the deal, especially given his newfound knowledge about the Metaverse, but the fact he still goes through with planning to backstab them shows that he's either,
1. EXTREMELY suicidal, or
2. Very dedicated to his job and loyalty to Kaburagi.
Either one I find absolutely intriguing and says so much about his character.
AND THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST ARC OF THE GAME!
So, what was the point of me covering this arc with just Zenkichi? Well, the answer is simple: he's great!
Well, that, and...
The wiki is utter garbage.

I know luke + blood and cheese are considered the point of no return for many, but do you think things might have been different IF rhaenyra immediately send a message to KL condemning jaehaerys murder and bending the knee, in exchange for their lives (minus daemon)
of course i think the terms will suck in comparison to what they could have had originally. daemon being executed is a given. aemond also needs to be punished to make it fair.
This is a tough question! Because in theory, if post B&C Rhaenyra had disavowed Daemon, bent the knee, and accepted the greens' terms, then yes, the war would have ended. The whole point of war is winning, and if your opponent is yielding, then you've won. As angry as Aegon was, he did not actually extinguish Rhaenyra's line when he had the chance, and each offer of peaceful terms in canon (that involved negotiation, rather than simply bend the knee or else) was made by the greens, with Alicent leading the push. So the green leadership is not really the stumbling block.
There are two difficulties, one you already pinpointed. What would the terms be? You're looking at a minimum execution for Daemon, execution or the Wall for Aemond. The deal to keep Dragonstone is definitely off the table, so exile for Rhaenyra and her kids? You can't really just have her at court, but you're likely going to want to to keep a few of the kids as hostages and/or marriage alliances, and would Rhaenyra agree to that? So the devil is in the details. Is it possible they could hammer out a satisfactory agreement? Sure, in theory. I don't know if either side would be completely satisfied with it, but that's often how diplomacy goes.
The other difficulty, and probably the larger one, is enforcing your treaty agreement. Even if Rhaenyra wants to surrender, how does she get Daemon to cooperate and turn himself in? Daemon is loyal to an extent, but is he going to march happily to his own execution at the hands of the greens? He'd likely have to be taken prisoner, and to take him prisoner she'd have to catch him. And if Daemon isn't cooperative, will his daughters and Jacaerys be cooperative? Jace and Baela have dragons, so what if they just decide to keep on fighting anyway, to hell with what Rhaenyra wants? And then on the other side, you have Aemond. If Aemond has to face some sort of punishment, the likeliest scenarios being him being exiled or sent to the Wall, is he going to go willingly? If he goes willingly, with Vhagar, is he going to stay put? How can you force him?
I think this second point especially is one of the big points both the book and the show are making, and why B&C is often considered the real point of no return. This war escalates out of the hands of its instigators and figureheads, and there is very little place for Daemon or Aemond in a post-Dance world, but there is also very little you can do outside of killing them to stop them. Given the very obvious metaphorical connection between the dragons and nuclear power, you end up with a sort of Dr. Strangelove situation, in which one rogue nutcase (Daemon of course taking the role of Jack D. Ripper) can turn a cold war into a hot war. Just as in that film, you have two sides who are not particularly eager for all out war, but once a nuclear/dragon war is started, you can't really unring the bell. So I think that was is possible in theory might end up very difficult to accomplish in reality.

Oh yea I never talked about it
So the lost angel au is about Alice’s family accidentally losing while visiting the mortal realm And she ends up in a village where she grows up in a church and becomes a nun unaware she’s an angel
Later on Bendy left hell and visited that village to be bit chaotic because it was not a kind place But he sees Alice in the church and immediately realizes she’s an angel and gets kinda angry he can tell she’s not fallen and she is certainly not helping the village be a better place so his under the impression that she’s ignoring her duties
He goes to confront her but is confused because she’s ignoring him he knows she feel his magic so why is she ignoring him? While poor Alice is shaking in fear telling herself she’s just imagining it
That is until bendy comes face to face with her And makes her faint from fear
Of course bendy is not just gonna leave her there so he takes her to hell to have her looked at while he contacts the angels
When Alice wakes up she’s terrified and it take a lot of time for both her and him to realize what exactly is happening Especially for the fact that she was able to run away and hide in a cave
The au isn’t sat by the babitim rules for demons and angels The devil is Lucifer the fallen angel and while he hates his siblings and god he will be cooperative with them ….and he dose that by sending bendy to deal with them because he’s their favorite

Bonus Bracket, Round 1
[image ID: the first image is of The Dear Hunter's album Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise. it depicts a person in a plague doctor's costume standing between two trees with intertwining branches. the trees have windows in their trunks. behind the person is an iron street lamp and buildings with older looking architecture. the second image is of Steven, a white man with long, black hair, heavy black eye makeup, and a black streak running down the edge of his lips to his jaw. he's wearing a black vest and a red collar around his neck, which a hand is pulling on via a chain. end ID]
Hunter
“The protagonist of the story, a boy doomed to a life of heartbreak and despair and destined to die alone. The instigator of the tragedy who makes several bad decisions as time goes on. The albums (Acts I-V) that tell his story fucking slap.” “Hunter is so obscure that not even he knows who he is. He was raised by his mother, who is a prostitute. He steals his half brother's identity after meeting him in WW1 and killing their father. In the rest of the concept albums (2 albums out of 5) Hunter struggles to get a hold on his identity, which he has lost. One of his songs is titled "Who Am I" for god's sake.”
Steven
*most notably the albums Welcome to My Nightmare (1975) and Welcome 2 My Nightmare (2011), the 1975 TV special The Nightmare with Vincent Price, and the 2000 Neil Gaiman graphic novel "The Last Temptation" A lot can be interpreted about Steven and a LOT depends on which version of him is being interpreted. Ultimately, he's a little boy (or an age-regressing adult) who has nightmares of increasing severity and maturity. He kills his abusive father in the song When Hell Comes Home. Some people will interpret Steven as the main character and um. murderer. from Along Came a Spider (2008), but some don't. Given that he's not strictly a movie or book or game character and is instead mostly portrayed through music, he's much less defined than other characters in this event might be. Also this character involved Vincent Price putting Alice Cooper on a leash and I think this counts as propaganda.

I've been thinking about Georgina Orwell an alarming amount this past week but I think I've exhausted all the good fan content out there 💔, tumblr posts, fanfics, hell even whatever pinterest gave me has run dry. I'm sad, I'm contentless, and I'm shamefully in love with Georgina Orwell.
That was longer than I thought itd be but basically the point is that if you have any advice for where to look next then I will take it, and if not then I am humbly asking you for any headcanons or anything you have 🙏
THANK YOUUU SORRY THIS WAS SO LONG!! YOU HAVE WONDERFUL TASTE IN WOMEN!!!
Dear anon I am so so unbelievably sorry for the time it has taken to get to you. I, an Esmé kinner, and my partner, a Georgina kinner, think about this ask every day and have been dying to answer you. Life has just been all over the place.
I would say that these headcanons are just that, and if you disagree then that’s fine, but truthfully I think of what we have come up with over the years as the real and actual truth and canon of the series. With that in mind! Here you go, I hope you enjoy!
Lore headcanons
First and foremost!
No matter the version, book, show, or continuation of the movie that never happened… Georgina survived her “death” at the Mill. In show canon, obviously there’s just an escape chute in the furnace, easy peasy, everyone has said this.
In book canon… yeah okay sure she tripped and was sawed in half at the mill. However, that woman has surely seen an Alice Cooper concert and knows how to fake a gory death live. She probably taught him how to do it to be honest.
So. She lives through Miserable Mill no matter the version. That woman is unkillable.
Georgina’s family is Old VFD. Like the Orwells were founding members type shit. Maybe it was her parents, maybe her grandparents or further, but either way, she was raised knowing everything. She was one of few members capable of learning about VFD and its inner workings from her own family - long before they died. She is the last keeper of every secret. She knows more things about the history of the organization than most of the sugarbowl gen can even begin to piece together. If VFD had nuclear weapons, Georgina Orwell would be the only one left who knew the codes, and that includes the Sinister Duo. Because of this, she’s very disconnected from the other members that we know of because they just don’t know about the truly dark information that VFD has kept secret from itself. She is technically still VFD, and in her earlier life was a dedicated member in some capacity, but she has no strong allegiance to it aside from her secret keeping (though that is more familial allegiance) when the SBG undergoes their schism.
Characteristic headcanons
BOTH of her knees are bad, that’s why she carries a cane. She doesn’t always need it (see: how often she simply holds it instead of actually placing it on the ground in the show), the pain flares up at different intervals and usually only in one leg at a time, but she always carries one A) because it is her sword and B) because that way no one can ever tell if it’s a good or bad day for her as far as knee pain goes.
She takes her coffee with no creamer, but does use sugar. It just varies in quantity per day. NEVER creamer or milk. Also is totally someone that’s a “don’t talk to me before my morning coffee” person. She doesn’t ever say this, she doesn’t have a nonsense mug that says it. However, if you try to speak to her before her coffee she will simply ignore you. She doesn’t get mad or glare or anything. She just… does not care until she’s had coffee. So it’s best to just wait because you won’t get anything out of her until then.
Tea she takes plain, nothing in it, no milk, no sugar, no lemon, nothing. Just. Tea. She isn’t a tea snob by any means, she will drink any tea she is given. If it’s bad tea she’ll just think that it wasn’t great, could be improved, but will take NO steps to improve it herself. She doesn’t even look at what type she is buying and she has no favorites. She likes tea enough to buy and make it but she literally does not care enough to select one. She just picks one at random every single time. She has had some truly horrible teas in her time without complaining or changing her habits once.
If you ask her what matcha is she will have NO idea what the fuck you are talking about.
Thank you so much for the ask, I love talking about my wife. I have so many more headcanons but pretty much all of them revolve around the idea that she and Esmé are together pre and post series (I am writing a fic slowly but surely to better explain this dynamic) and that they adopt Carmelita after the hotel. In the case that you are not an Eswell shipper I am keeping them to myself for the time being, but should you want that specific Georgina content I am more than happy to oblige! Just shoot me another ask and I will begin to compile it for you.

*knock knock knock* ❄️☃️🎄 Asking for 24 for the Spotify Wrapped!!!
24 - Dance With the Dragon by Dark Sarah
Congratulations, you've landed on one of the songs that's officially on my list of Songs That Would Make Great Dreamling Fics (That I'll Never Write)! Based entirely on the video linked above and the story that it's part of, this would be a fantasy AU where the vibes are 'Labyrinth meets Alice in Wonderland' with hints of Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, and Hades and Persephone sprinkled over for flavor.
The basic idea is that Hob is trapped in some alternate reality and trying to collect a key from each realm he passes through to be able to get back to his own reality. No idea at this juncture what the first realm/key would be - maybe something with the fae, maybe hell, idk. The second realm is Dream's. Do I want to keep to the source and make him a dragon who lost his wings for hubris and arrogance and got banished from the 'upper world' to rule this dark 'underworld'? Maybe, but that's also very Lucifer-ish. So maybe I'd blend in something closer to his canon. In any case. Hob tries to sneak into Dream's castle, get the key, sneak out. He does not succeed and is taken before Dream. There is antagonistic chemistry. There is sneering haughty-in-my-superiority taunting and 'let's be reasonable' demands. There is at least one challenge set, there is Hob as a 'guest' of Dream's until he completes the challenge ('So I'm a prisoner, then.' 'Oh no, you may leave any time you like, but you will gain no key until you complete my challenge.' 'But what good is leaving without the key, when I'll just be stuck here forever??' 'I fail to see how that is my problem'), there is continued verbal fencing and sparring and building UST as Hob struggles with the challenge, there is an elaborate ball (masquerade?) held, there is a waltz charged with so much tension and raging attraction it's a wonder the room doesn't spontaneously combust. There is at least one moment of 'Oh no under different circumstances this could be More™️' and genuine understanding/connection between them. In the end, Hob finally succeeds at the challenge, earns the key and departs on a note of uneasy flirtation - Dream bowing and kissing his hand in farewell as he acknowledges his defeat, lingering intense smirky eye-contact as Hob goes, that kind of thing.
Potentially this can go on, if I continue the thread of the source storyline but lean on Dream's canon for details. Perhaps collecting the three keys would give him the means to restore Orpheus/free Orpheus/something to do with Orpheus, and he's never had the means to collect the other two keys on his own, but now that Hob has collected the first and second, if Dream accompanies him while he collects the third, they can both use the keys to achieve their ends - Hob to go back to his own world and Dream to restore Orpheus. So Dream leaves Lucienne in charge of the realm and follows after Hob, catches up to him, proposes they cooperate etc; they quest for the third key and finally resolve that UST in the process. When they get the third key, and present it to let's say the Fates, they're told they cannot both claim reward - and they put the choice to Dream, his lover or his son. Let Hob go back to his world/his regular life, or be 'selfish' and choose to cash in for his own goal instead. It could end here with Dream choosing to let Hob go, which could be passing a test by the Fates and as reward for passing he still gets to save/restore Orpheus. Or, the longer and angstier version, he chooses Orpheus and thereby casts Hob into yet another alternate realm, and the next leg of the story is Dream's quest to find Hob again and seek his forgiveness, and find a way to get him home. Hob can't exactly fault Dream for choosing his son over this outsider human that he's started sleeping with, but it still hurts, still feels on some level like betrayal, and while he might like to freely offer forgiveness it's more plausible that there will have to be some earning done. Eventually of course they reconcile and find a way to get Hob home and then of course establish a means by which they can continue to cross worlds to see each other.
Anyway this is far more a mental exercise in mapping one story to another and seeing where they might translate than it is a viable fic idea; it's far too grand in scope and not nearly detailed enough for me to realistically take it on. Mostly I just want the enemies-to-lovers fraught-with-tension ballroom dancing scene.

A Nightmare On Elm Street Movies - RANKED!
You’ll find that my list is filled with hot takes, as I find my taste in these films is just different than most peoples. So here goes…
9️⃣ - A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
I don't have much to say about this one. It's just absurd amped up to a million. About as over-the-top as the later Freddy films could get! The effects began to get worse as the series went on. I do like the comic/A-Ha part, though. So there's at least something to like about it. The Son of 1000 maniacs asylum scene near the beginning was good...with a quick appearance by Robert Englund himself!. I have a hard time deciding sometimes which film I like the least, this one or Freddy's Dead. But, idk, I think I like more stuff in Freddy's Dead. I barely like any of this film.
8️⃣ - Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
This one’s really just Dream Warriors 2.0...but not nearly as good. Actually, it recycles a lot from the series thus far. It’s not great, but I do find things in it to enjoy. The Powerglove scene is by far my favorite. Who knew we needed to see Freddy Krueger playing Nintendo! I enjoy the Wizard Of Oz nod, and the (sort of) Johnny Depp cameo on the tv. And of course, Alice Cooper as Freddy’s father!
7️⃣ - Wes Craven's New Nightmare
I love the whole meta storyline that sort of ushered in things like Scream later on. I really didn't care much for any of the climax or ending stuff, though. Upon a fresh watch of this, my thoughts changed. I remember really loving it when I first saw it. The ending sours that now. I don't know, it just doesn't work for me somehow. Really the only thing that makes this installment a little more enjoyable for me than the two above entries is the meta aspect. I like seeing Robert, Wes and Heather as themselves and not as their characters or a just name in the credits.
6️⃣ - A Nightmare On Elm Street (2010)
This is a hot take…but I don't think this one is treated fairly. It's not perfect by any means but more enjoyable than some of those later sequels, in my opinion. it stuck to Freddy lore and made him scary again...as opposed to the absolute joke he later became. This film didn't try to tell the exact same story. It has some fresh stuff added to it, and I love that! I like having alternative storylines (which is why I love comics). One aspect that I think is both hit and miss is that when they did try to recreate iconic scenes, they often fell flat. Given that these scenes used CGI effects as opposed to the original’s practical effects, it really shows. These were nice homages, but were otherwise pointless. I’m not too fond of them being way more direct about Freddy's pedophiliac past, where the others only hinted at it. But the backstory is kind of a nice addition. Jackie Earle Haley did as well as anyone could have with such shoes to fill. NOBODY ON THIS PLANET will ever fill Robert's shoes. That's a given. But JEH gave a solid performance and I'm tired of everyone pretending he didn't. It's a shame people didn't give this an objective chance, because Freddy can't live on now that Robert's retired from the role. I will say, though, that Freddy’s makeup looks pretty awful in this one. I’ll give you guys that.
5️⃣ - Freddy Vs. Jason
This is a way more Freddy centric film, so I am including it on this list. Jason is my favorite and Freddy is my brother's, so we were really excited to see this one when it came out. I remember it was the only movie my family ever bought on Pay-Per-View when I was a child. This one went through years of development hell. The end result might not be idyllic, and is a bit silly, but it is so much fun to watch! Freddy uses Jason to fuel the fear on Elm Street and help him come back. There’s plenty of creative Freddy kills and brutal Jason kills. The rave with Jason on fire in the corn field with the machete is chef's kiss! And it really racks up the # of kills! The bed folded in half always stuck with me, too. The stan in me loves seeing Pamela Voorhees return, albeit as one of Freddy’s tricks. And the showdown between Freddy & Jason was easily the best part. It’s what we all came to see. Freddy had the advantage earlier in the dream world fight, but Jason obviously kicks ass in the real world. Jason being afraid of water is a bit wild, considering most of his movies involve him being in it. But whatever. Let's be real, they gave Freddy more credit in the real world fight than he would realistically have. I do so love the ending, where there’s a literal “wink” and no clear winner…though one man sure seems to look a lot more victorious.
4️⃣ - A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Here we see the return of Nancy Thompson (and her dad). And get the introduction to the "Dream Warriors", a group of kids who fight Freddy with their... dream powers? It’s not exactly in-line with the first movie, but then again none of them are. This film is chocked full of iconic (and inventive) Freddy kills and one-liners! The TV kill and “Welcome to prime time, bitch” line stand out the most. We even get a brief scene of stop motion! Kincaid is hilarious! And the dream sequence fight between the Dream Warriors and Freddy is easily among the top scenes in the franchise! Dokken’s “Dream Warriors” song is pretty amazing, too. This is definitely one of the better made movies in the series. I'm just not as partial to it as most people seem to be.
3️⃣ - A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
There’s just something about this one that I love more than all of the above entries. Despite how absolutely absurd it is at times. We see the return of the surviving Dream Warriors… for a minute. I particularly love Kristen Parker, now played by Tuesday Knight. Kincaid is, well, Kincaid. Which is always great. And hey, did you catch the name of his dog? (It’s Jason). Debbie’s death is super creative and gross, playing off of her biggest fear. The pizza and waterbed scenes stuck with me my whole life, and I can’t not think of them when I'm around those things. And the soundtrack to this one is superb!
2️⃣ - A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
Now for quite possibly the hottest take of this whole list. Freddy’s Revenge is fun! Jesse’s little dance cracks me up every time, and I don’t mind at all that this film is very, very gay! Watch it for yourself, you’ll see what I mean lol All that aside, I would venture to say that this film has the scariest Freddy. Excluding that silly little pool scene where he’s just running around like a big goof (which I love). With the power to literally possess and take over your body, I don’t know how he could be scarier than that. The “you are all my children now" & "you've got the body, I've got the brain" lines are by far some of my favorites in the whole franchise. My only real complaint about this one is that the ending left me feeling kinda unfulfilled and unsure what to think of it.
1️⃣ - A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
There's not much I can say about this one that hasn't been said a million times before. So I won’t repeat it. It's just an absolute master class in horror! It even has one of the best final girls in all of slasher history! Nancy Thompson is as capable and smart as any teenage girl has any right to be! Dare I say she deserves to be up there with the likes of Ellen Ripley or Sarah Connor of female movie badassses? She could probably even teach Kevin Mccalister a thing or two about homemade traps! Robert Englund is at his best as Freddy Krueger in this film, and far more menacing than most of the other entries. This film works just as well on it’s own and really doesn’t even need a sequel.
